Reviews of James' Bistro
C. A.
I enjoyed everything about this place. The food was amazing, the atmosphere is lovely, and all of the staff are really friendly. For the quality of food, the pricing is really reasonable. I often find when I order pancakes at a place they taste heavy on the use of bicarb but these were perfect. Very filling! I will definitely be returning, there's so much I want to try.
I also really like that all of the art work on the walls are from local artists and available for sale.

This place is an amazing find. What a treat to see a local arty style cafe. The decor is beautiful and you can even buy the art too! The staff was super friendly which for me being disabled and having a dog was essential that we felt welcome. Dog got a lovely bowl of water and se bacon too. I ordere some light snacks all came out fast, excellent presentation and super yummy. The cafe has many types of nights and deals I would make this a regular hang out spot if I lived locally.

Probably the best place in the city centre to get a cooked English breakfast that is made with care and quality ingredients. Taste was superb. The hash potatoes were exceptionally good with mild hints of flavour. The location is on a quiet street just behind the main shopping centre and it's very calming. Gift shop also inside with local artisan products. Very friendly staff and much cleanliness. Highly recommended 👌

Absolutely fantastic experience, can't fault a single thing. Amazing food, good price for the quality, good portion sizes, and really friendly staff. I will definitely return to try other things!

I had the Flash Burger and thoroughly enjoyed it. The unusual mix of ingredients worked surprisingly well. The decor of the bistro lends well to the friendliness of the staff.

It's lovely here. So cosy, friendly and seeing so much art by local artists warms me straight through. Also love the opportunity to buy jewellery, art prints, handmade crafts while enjoying a lush cup of generously large tea. Win.

We went for a mid-week breakfast and it was a really nice chilled atmosphere and the food was fab! Also loved all the quirky decor and the little trinkets on sale

I'm sad that this place is closing today, it one of my favourite places to eat and their pancakes are my favourite payday treat. But regrettably after many successful years, they're closing up for good, but they're not going quietly into the night. They have a full house of satisfied customers, regulars like me and more likely one or two friends that they made along the way. It's good food, a great atmosphere and one or two teary eyes in the house. So thank you James Cafe Bistro, it's been excellent.

This is the bargain basement of bistros. A half breakfast that is bigger than a wetherspoons small one. Go for the food!

Fantastic food. African taste. I had jollof rice and beef stew... 😤😤😤😤😤😤😤. Spook good. Sandwiches filled with flavour An all cooked from fresh. …

This is a hidden gem of a cafe with a lovely relaxed vibe. The menu is varied and suited to all so everyone should find something they like. Also in the cafè you can find art by 60+ local artists ranging from jewellery and cushions to paintings and pottery. A lovely place to escape from the hustle and bustle of the city centre and what's more is that it's an independent business so has that personal touch which the big chains don't have.
I'd recommend checking the website for opening times before visiting as they're not open every day, but well worth a visit.

Had a lovely Spanish Omelette & my usual coffee. Lovely little hideaway 2mins from the town centre. Also events in the evenings. A favourite of ours.

Very friendly staff, good service, cozy place, pancake was yummy, delicious English breakfast, tasty coffee

Love the atmosphere of this place, an art gallery/craft shop cum cafe/restaurant. I went for lunch because it was where our Christmas party was going to be and I adored the location, the quality of the food and the atmosphere - a little oasis right next to the Highcross. So when it came to go for a Christmas Meal (Pre Plan B) I was pleasantly surprised, they had rearranged the whole venue into a restaurant setting, the food menu choices were so good, catering for all dietary requirements of our group, the cocktails were lush and the food was of outstanding quality, sometimes you feel like part of a conveyor belt for the ‘office party’ when it comes to food but it was honestly five star quality, I loved every mouthful. Would definitely recommend.

Great place to meet friends and family, Food is Amazing and Great value. Cocktails well can only say you need to try. Wonderful people.

Popped in yesterday to meet a friend and stayed for 2 hours! It's a lovely, cosy and humble cafe. Started with coffee, very tasty! I then had spinach benedict and my friend had the blueberry pancakes, both absolutely delicious and really fresh. You definitely get your moneys worth on the portion sizes.
Very friendly, and greeted at the door, social distancing in place and it's a big space so felt totally comfortable. It also has wonderful local art on the walls, bespoke handmade products, which is perfect for gifts! Maybe my new favourite place in Leicester! Thank you looking forward to my next visit!

Had breakfast here on a Saturday morning. We all had the full English, coffee and orange juice. Really tasty food, great service and lovely to be able to eat outside to sit.

In my humble opinion, this is the best quality pound-for-pound restaurant in Leicester. With James' unique menu, served amongst authentic and tasteful artistic decor with a relaxed atmosphere, there is nowhere the same as this charming little eatery. Delightful creativity, glorious flavours and generous portions abound, at very reasonable prices. Friendly, accommodating staff and a central, but quaint and quiet, location put the proverbial cherry on the top. My favourite place to eat.
J.
What a place! Amazingly good food, made with real passion and care. The service is fantastic and there’s a nice laid-back atmosphere. It’s always my first choice destination in Leicester for any meal of the day. BEST cheesecake in all of the land - by far! Trumps your over-priced, generic chain restaurants every day of the week.
A.
Lovely, quirky café round the back of Highcross. Lots of space and there are also gifts to buy. Prices are good, we had a big pot of tea for 2 and it was only £2.00 ☕👌🏼 …

Recently visited James’ for lunch, great food cooked with care, Very friendly service from Debbie and extremely reasonably priced! They also catered very well for my girlfriend who is both vegan and gluten free. I absolutely love this place, although only visiting twice, both times I was treated with such hospitality and great food. The highlight for me that it is child friendly, with a huge black board with chalk for drawing on around the corner, chairs, seats and toys suitable for toddlers and children of all ages.
J. A.
Great place to eat and hang out with friends!
P. B.
Ideal place for a private party - plenty of space for 30 people to meet, eat and dance. Food and service were great. Looking forward to going back for a Saturday live music night. Choice of red wine would make it even better!
S. R.
This is a recently discovered gem tucked away on East Bond Street behind the Highcross, it's quirky, arty and the staff are delightful and friendly, my Cajun Chicken and slaw Ciabatta was delish as well as very very filling, will be going again and bringing pals
K. S.
Delicious food, cater for Coeliacs, milk allergy sufferers and vegans with no fuss at all!
Family friendly and fantastic service. Even altering the menu slightly for my autistic daughter.

70th Birthday party was excellent. Buffet was perfect and plenty of it! Extensive vinyl collection which made bistro really really atmospheric. 4hrs flew by. Will definitely be going back.

I recently visited Leicester on a days shopping with my wife, instead of eating in the usual eateries within the HighCross we decided to have a wander round some of the sidestreets. Directly outside the centre just by chance we stumbled across James’ Bistro.
This bistro is a Gem in the crown of Leicester City Centre, I selfishly wanted to keep this place to myself but I feel that everyone should know about this hidden Bistro.
Where do I start from the time I walked into James’ Bistro I was greeted by a lovely lady she made us feel so welcome , we were not rushed to place our order and when we had finally decided after perusing the amazing menu our food arrived in no time at all.
It was truly some of the freshest tasting food I have ever eaten, a real treat.
Even the chef came out to speak to the customers one point what a lovely man.
James’Bistro truly the perfect place to drop in to for a bite to eat or a quick coffee, it’s so convenient slap bang in Leicester City Centre.
If you haven’t been there you truly must visit , not to mention all of the other shops on East Bond Street from tattoo and piercing shops to dress shops, hairdressers and a vintage toy shop
If I could leave 10 stars I would.

Wonderful. Great place to hang out, freshly made food and epic cocktails. Unmissable.

Attended a charity meal in aid of dementia and Alzheimer's research, meal was great and the staff very welcoming. A great cafe bistro also a nice place to go lunch etc when in the Highcross area.
B. K.
Lovely homely atmosphere and amazing food at a great price, especially for the city centre. A little out of the way, but easily found from the highcross exit if you keep to the right when entering the highcross from the clock tower.
K. F.
Lovely place friendly staff and good food. Be prepared to wait for freshly made food though.
J. T.
James, the chef, will always prepare you something amazing on a plate, whether its moules marinieres or just a bacon buttie. Its not mass produced rubbish but fresh food, cooked to order, so I personally don't mind waiting a little bit longer!
Debbie is always friendly and attentive without being intrusive. These two, as co-owners, are the perfect combination.
P. M.
Superb old skool bistro - the menu offers many different dishes from around the world - the sandwiches are the best & the coffee is amazing - very welcoming staff - can't recommend too highly
E. B.

One of the best places to get a coffee or a lunch in Leicester. Their cheesecakes are exceptional. So is their English Breakfast.

Reminds me of the cafe that was in the Silver Arcade before it got its soul ripped out.

£4.50 for a ham sandwich at time of writing. Quesadilla was nice but took a while for an item on the 'express' section of the menu.
