Reviews of Lu Ban Restaurant

The hype here is well deserved. Started with pre dinner cocktails at the bar. It was a bit quiet during my midweek 3:30 booking so the place lacked atmosphere but I hardly notice because the food was so good. The presentation is a work of art and the taste - divine. 👌🏻

Can't say much more other than comfortably the best meal I've ever had. Incredible service, incredible decor, really relaxed vibe and music and truly exceptional food. Can't wait to come back.

It's the 3rd time I've visited, totally recommend. The pictures speak for themselves. The best: the dumplings, the praw crackers & all deserts! 🤩

I challenge anyone to not enjoy this place. Singularly some of the best food I’ve ever eaten and a more than reasonable price given the quality. Other highlights include, great choice, quick service, nice ambiance and friendly staff. Special s/o to our server Warrick who was attentive and polite throughout. Keep doing what you’re doing, we’ll definitely be back

Another awesome birthday dining experience at Luban! It's set us up beautifully for our Simply Red gig at the arena later on.
The team and staffs attention to us was impeccable, thank you for an amazing time and wonderful food.
Special thanks to our beautiful smiling waitress Emily, for whom nothing was too much trouble.

Unbelievable experience, one of the best meals I’ve ever had, cocktails amazing, not too expensive and the chef came out to greet us during our meal. Couldn’t recommend enough.

Visited here with friends at the start of the Christmas period and decided we’d all go for the Festive menu. We were told that we either all had to go off the festive taster or all go for the small plates. Nevertheless, this initial hiccup was resolved and Wow! What an excellent pan-Asian fine dining experience, couldn’t fault the standard of food that was sent out, such a beautiful variety of flavours. Very nice stylish interior and a great location right in the heart of Liverpool’s booming Brewery Village. Would recommend to a friend looking for a venue for a special occasion.

Wow. Booked the Bottomless Brunch on Sunday as a treat before the Liverpool match.
Was blown away by the food, drinks and the service.
House cocktail was so good.
Pork Belly with a pear puree and greens and Tempira prawns a particular highlight.
Enjoyed so much that we have booked Chefs table end of September. Can't wait!

What an Amazing Place. Great food, brilliant drinks, and excellent service.
I went along to the Lu Ban Restaurant last night to try out some of their dishes. The food is chinese, and it is modern chinese, with incredible flavours, and just amazing presentation - the attention to every detail is great.
And then there are the desserts. Cherry Trees made of chocolate, beautiful coconut peaches, and a selection box that blows your taste buds.
The wines served were so well selected and were all delicious - every one went with one of the dishes.
The service was also great - attentive, really friendly, and they had great knowledge about all of the dishes.
All in all, I was blown away and can't wait to go back
J. W.
The restaurant is a very nice setting, the staff were really really friendly, the bottomless brunch is great if you want unlimited sparkling wine and okay chilled white wine but the food is SO DISAPPOINTING. It promised so much but lacked flavour - way way below average. Your average Chinese restaurant is a better bet.

We celebrated our Anniversary on Sunday at Lu Ban and it was a fantastic experience, from the greeting at the door, to the attentive staff waiting at table. The food was excellent and, special thanks to Angelo who explained each dish to us as it was brought to our table." Amazing ". Thank you from Pat and Tom.

Excellent cuisine and worth booking for a special night. Started with Colchester oysters and Stretched prawns. Then had Cauliflower, Jackfruit pancakes amd Seabass all delicious. Quite expensive but good quality. Music a bit loud and acoustics poor so prepare to shout across the table.
J. B.
Amazing place, great service, great vibe, would definitely come back. Food exceptional

Fusion Asian Chinese cuisine with a bar of cocktail and choices of drinks. The restaurant is in the trendy Baltic Triangle. The staff were polite and helpful. The only main issue here were to get to the restaurant doors, we had to go through a drunken crowd with no social distancing respected. The restaurant should make a free path cordoned for their customers especially with the risks of covid-19 spread. If you're at risk I would avoid it for now. I tried to give my concerns by email to the management but never got a reply.

Fantastic place, tucked inside the old Cains Brewery in the baltic area of Liverpool. Food superb and lovly staff, well worth booking, you won't be dissapointed
C. S.
Went for the bottomless brunch today. Cannot fault the service or the food. Absolutely amazing is all I can say. The staff were very accommodating and Violet the drag artiste was fabulous. Couldn't have asked for anything more. Will definitely be back.
J. H.
We had a amazing evening at the chef's table on Saturday 7/8/21, for my son's birthday.
Tony and all the staff were friendly and the service was excellent.
All the courses were delicious and we all tried oysters for the first time which were very tasty.
Thank you to everyone at Lu Ban. We will be back.
R. Q.
Delicious, stylish food, all beautifully presented. The bar area is also lovely to have a drink at before or after your meal.
R. J.
5 stars however with some caveats.
As another reviewer has posted this restaurant is certainly style over substance.
It is a perfect example of Asian fusion cuisine and is a wonderful night out. However portions are small, most the food is very simple and a lot of the menu is nothing that cannot be cooked at home.
If you are hungry and want good value for money then this is not the place for you, if you are looking for a night out that wows and to sample some lovely food then this is the place for you.
We dropped in without booking, they were fully booked but made room for us in the bar area and told us we could order off the snacks and sides menu e.g items which were not cooked to order. Which suited us as we often find we like trying a large variety of little dishes.
We ordered two gin, lemonade and cucumber drinks to quench the thirst brought on by our long walk there, despite not being on the cocktail menu they complied and they were delightful. Service was attentive and quick.
We then had a few plates brought out, the 5 cucumber dish whilst very simple was pleasant. The duck delightful and the oysters sublime. And I'm not an oyster fan.
I then had a bourbon old fashioned, which again was not on the menu but was intricately made by the very good cocktail bar maid.
A few more dishes were brought out, the fried rice was certainly of note.
We finished off by ordering the Pandora box dessert which was again elegantly presented and had an array of flavours.
Service, presentation, style and the variety of flavours was exquisite and I whole heartedly recommend the experience.
But I will also say that there are other restaurants that offer food just as good for cheaper albeit without the style.
This is a very trendy and happening restaurant and if you wish to take someone out to impress them or have a business get together and want an 'experience' then it truly is the place to go to.
If you want good food at reasonable prices then perhaps not so much the place to go. Truth be told I have had michelin star food that is cheaper. And this food is close to that quality.
The management run a well oiled machine, much thought has gone into the menus for taste, ease of cooking, presentation and of course profit, layout is good and decor is fantastic. And the service very attentive.
I shall of course be going back, however to anyone else looking to go please bear in mind you are paying for the whole experience and a night of surprises and beauty - you are not paying just for a full stomach.
Hats off to the fantastic staff and to the management whom have positioned themselves in this niche and I'm truly happy to see a restaurant doing something different and it working.
T. E.
Great service 👏 The assistant manager Angello I think it was very helpful 👍.
Great menu authentic and delicious cocktails aswell couldn't fault anything. Thankyou to all the team members
T. C.
Excellent food, excellent staff, excellent facilities, let down by out of place musical ambience.
Went here for a 25th wedding anniversary meal treat and enjoyed it overall. Can't fault the food or the service, it was first class, but why oh why does a high quality Chinese restaurant have night club tunes banging out? And why the high volume levels? It totally ruins the ambience and should be addressed. I was expecting mandolins, flutes and strings not rock guitars and synths. Such a shame given how good everything else was.
The cherry blossom dessert was amazing!
m. m.
This place deserves a Michelin star. What a privilege it was to meet the acclaimed chef Dave Critchley. The only chef ever to be trained and accepted within the Chinese culinery masters outside of china. This alone deserves a Michelin for this masterful achievement. Liverpool is spoilt to have this genius. The food you get is well worth the price you pay and I advise everyone to go try this place whilst it is within your budget before this gem reaches the Michelin 🌟. Food, service and and whole experience is fabulous. Sundays and Saturday buffet and all you can drink is a fab way of testing this place. Just love it.

Came here last Saturday booked a private room ordered the banquet which was gorgeous lovely flavours and was was great would definitely recommend thanks lu ban
J. M.
Food was lovely, service very disappointing. Ordered duck, which never came and a beer took 25 minutes and two requests to come over, by which time I had finished my main. All in all a disappointing visit after waiting and hearing so many good things!!
A. H.
Absolutely fantastic, quality food, service was great - overall a lovely evening. Would definitely recommend for a treat!
P. M.
Oh god I've not been yet but after looking through your delishbong menu (that's when something is so delicious it blows your mind and your head falls off and goes bong), I need to come very soon. Only down the hill from me. We are all gonna fast for two days and then feast like the Romans did. Everything on menu please.
G. I.
Had an amazing evening at this gaff. It was the small details that made it. Service being one of them. Matt the manager checked in on us and made us feel at home. We could see the staff were run off their feet, but the standard did not drop.
Would recommend to friends
R. W.
This place is a hidden gem, service and food where excellent, The prices seem high when you look at the menu but when the food arrives you wont be disappointed attention to detail is amazing, you wont find a better Chinese inspired restaurant around, cant wait to go back.
D. H.
3 Courses for £30.....Excellent value.
Great venue...Beautiful food....Friendly staff.
Warmly welcomed on arrival. All courses presented to the highest standard.
Food extremely tasty. Would thoroughly recommend a visit to Lu Ban.
We even had the pleasure to meet Dave Critchley one of the Great British Menu chefs,
who even showed us around the venue and the Food Lab and Chefs kitchen.
A really enjoyable afternoon!
J. M.
Excellent service very pleasant staff made you feel special food was amazing very tasty an well presented would recommend to go hear very classy aswell the wait on staff was amazing especially Angelo
P.
Restaurant and food looks the part (very 'instagrammable'), but some dishes lacked flavour (the bao particularly). You can get much more flavoursome bao at a traditional Chinese.
Everything was accompanied by chilli oil, which I didn't think was very imaginative, I think some alternative sauces for different dishes wouldn't go amiss and would spark a little more excitement.
Overall, the service was good and the staff were friendly, but I felt I was overpaying for what I was eating. If you're used to eating authentic Chinese food, you may be disappointed.
R. G.
Really enjoyed the LuBan experience and would absolutely recommend. The restaurant is decorated to a high standard and the staff are very attentive and knowledgable about the food. If you like Chinese food, LuBan is a must!
M. W. L.
If you are looking for an outstanding food experience in Liverpool look no further than Lu Ban, in the amazing Cain's Old Brewery you will be treated to it all here with outstanding Food, Wine & service. It was a pleasure to eat here last night and you will not be disappointed....
j. v.
Food was amazing and cheff was very nice as he came to talk to us and ask our opinion on food
S. R.
Absolutely brilliant food, have travelled to Hong Kong a few years ago and, although this is a slightly different cuisine, it does match is the quality and flavour of the best food we had over there.
I wouldn't even think of this as just being the best Chinese restaurant in Liverpool, it's one of the best restaurants in Liverpool... full stop!
B. “. A.
Staff were amazing and very kind especially when we had issues with the meals and a few drinks.
Wouldn't recommend the boutique; bit expensive for £55/£59 and sharing the dishes but ordering from their basic menu seemed to be the way to go.
Staff made up for it giving free drinks and a few other things.
S. F.
Don't hesitate. Just eat there. Amazing (once you find the front door!)
S. L.
First time dining here and I'm very impressed!! Had the bottomless brunch, fantastic value! Plenty of delicious food, catering for my pescetarian diet (vegetarian & vegan options too I believe) and had plenty of cocktails too....happy days! Service was fantastic. Lovely contemporary dining with great customer focus 👌
L. A.
Absolutely amazing service quality food the customer service received was absolutely 💯 Gemma was our host and made our experience a absolutely amazing time. 1st time since lock down 2019 we been out we travelled from northwales amd was totally blown away by the service we received #
L. P. M.
Food was really great- service was very good too. Classy Asian flavours
K. S.
not up to much, over priced and took for ever to get anyones attention for a drink. My sons food of the kids menu was awful he couldnt even eat it. over cooked noodles with no seasoning or flavour. Dont think I'll be back. Front of house lady was lovely though really polite and genuinely a nice woman.
C. S.
Amazing from the service to the food. For a place no windows, it is very open and inviting. I demand they recieve their first Michelin star right now!
L. D.
I was so Lucky to win the bottomless brunch working for the NHS, I can’t thank you enough the food was out of this world it was so delicious, it was served at the right time between each dish not rushed or waiting around, the drinks flowed we did not have to wait to be asked if we wanted another drink, the service and staff were all so friendly they are a credit to the restaurant. Thank you for a Wonderful day would highly recommend and will surely be back, Lovely setting delicious food and wonderful staff
T. T.
So amazing.Great food, great drinks and great service.
I was lucky enough to have the chef's birthday noodles here, as well as a variety of amazing Chinese dishes that taste exactly like the ones I had in China.
I like to eat that tofu , one day and one night, and five-flavor melon strips, and those delicious desserts. The amazing there had the same as the Chinese rice, dumplings and steamed buns, I want to eat here every day.
Everyone here is very warm and friendly and the bartender's wine is fantastic. The manager was very kind and had the chance to hear the chef's story about the dishes.
It's a very different experience in the UK.
What a wonderful place.
S. W.
Nice enough brunch and plenty of drinks. Good value for money. Staff very helpful and attentive, however the music was so loud we couldn’t hear ourselves or the staff speak. They did turn it down after asking 3 times but who wants to hear loud pop music when you are chatting and having a Chinese meal. A bit misguided I think.
j. M.
This place looks amazing inside, really beautiful, and the food was delicious. We had a set vegan menu which was sort of tapas style, and I have to admit by the 7th plate I was indeed pretty full!
Staff incredibly hospitable too and at a great price. Highly recommend.
J. M.
The food was lovely, we couldn't fault it. Sadly, for ourselves, the service was our main problem.
We ordered duck, which never came. I waited 25 minutes for a fresh beer, which, by the time it came, I had finished my main course.
Might give it another go after lockdown but after hearing so many positive reviews, this was a real let down.
J. H.
Had a really nice meal with good friends.
Good value for the money.
J. H.
Hats off to Warrick(Warren) for putting up with us! Lovely atmosphere and drinks 🤭 will be back soon!
P. M.
Beautiful restaurant. Lovely atmosphere and great staff.
The food was probably some of the best I've tasted. We had bottomless brunch. The food kept flowing and was consistently fantastic. Cant recommended this place enough
R. T.
Just blown away with the the food at the newest restaurant based at the Cains Brewery. The Lu Ban Liverpool - the cooking Team (some still very early in their training) produced some of the finest dishes I have ever tasted. The flavours were clean and delicate unlike any Chinese food I have eaten. We shared an incredible culinary experience - without a shadow of a doubt you will not find better - get yourself booked in before the waiting list gets long!
S. E.
Beautiful restaurant, friendly staff, clean and good drinks. Bang average food, lacking flavour, seasoning and expensive for what you get. Sui mai good but had better, chicken wings good but had better, spring rolls get better homemade from my local Chinese, 2 worst dishes were the rice bowl with master stock, rice was overcooked mush and the stock had zero flavour, Shanghai noodles again bland and overcooked, cucumber salad was good. £20 set menu portion was 1 spring roll, 1 sui mai, couple slices of soy Chicken, 2 Chicken wing, little bowl of rice, tiny bowl of noodles and a couple strips of cucumber. I feel it did not justify the price and was left massivley underwhelmed. Desserts however were great. Long island ice tea needs work wasn't balanced.
M. D.
Gorgeous food and the service was superb! Staff went out of way to help me with my broken shoe.
Would definitely recommend!
A. R.
I came over from Yorkshire expecting this place to be overpriced, small portioned and for me to be starving on the way out. I couldn't have been more wrong! I have so much awesome going on in my mouth right now I have a to comment. Friendly staff who care about your experience. Excellent atmosphere. Enjoyed every part.
P. M.
Trying to do something different on the Chinese food front. Excellent decor thoughtfully done. Loved the dining areas and toilet facilities superb. Dave the chef had a good chat with my wife and I about restaurant aims etc. Interesting. Food lovely. Will return soonest.
S. M.
A fantastic evening spent at Lu Ban Liverpool this evening. The private dining room was beautiful, as was the festive 4 course menu! BIG thanks to the Lu Ban team for choosing us as their competition winners. My staff had a wonderful evening. I was delighted to be able to give this prize to them! Merry Christmas to you all 🎅🥂
Highly recommended, food, atmosphere and drinks/ cocktails... Such a professional and friendly bunch.. who also do so much for the Liverpool community outside of business as usual. We will be back...❤
P. R.
Went for new years meal. Fantastic, great service and wonderful food. Think my idea of Chinese cuisine has been jaded by take aways. This was a whole different experience, great quality and superb flavours and presentation. Never had a meal like it, would recommend again and again.
N. I.
This restaurant is absolutely outstanding. The decor, service and especially the food are all exceptional. We lived down south for many years and visited many Michelin Star rated establishments and this is up there with the best of them! Chinese food at another level. Highly recommended and will be back soon.
j. w.
Drinks are a bit expensive in my opinion but the food was excellent
h. w.
WOW what an amazing restaurant. The decor, food and service was all fantastic. Mike went all out to make sure our birthday was really special and the private dining area was perfect for a special occasion. The food here was some of the best I have ever had. Can’t wait to come back! Thank you x
M. B.
Their food is amazing and watching the kitchen staff you can see how much effort they put in. Unfortunately the night we were their our waiter wasn't as dedicated as the rest of the team which lead to delays with the service.
E.
Nice way to spend a Saturday lunch. All you can eat brunch. Very friendly, fab food.
B. O.
We went for the bottomless brunch. I can't recommend it enough. Service was incredible and we were never left with an empty glass. And the food was some of the best I have had.
J. A.
Had a fantastic dining experience at the Lu Ban last night. You will have never tasted food like this in a Chinese restaurant. Have to recommend the 24 hour pork, delicious.
The service was excellent, genuine and
informative.
J. B.
Really enjoyed Lu Ban, food was very tasty & the atmosphere was chilled & relaxing. People who waited on & served us were very pleasant, especially young Irish girl! Would definitely recommend.
O. M.
Lovely ambiance. This is no ordinary Chinese dining experience each platter was a craft of work, a work of art and tasted divine. Can't recommend Lu Ban highly enough.
S. E.
Lovely restaurant really good staff but a high price for very little food. Would not return well overpriced
H. S.
This was an amazing experience. From the friendly service to the amazing food. We noticed there is a possibility to sit at a table inside the kitchen or in a separate room from the main dining area.
G. W.
Really nice food. Really nice atmosphere. Really good service. Highly recommended.

Whilst visiting Liverpool for a home match, we had an absolute fabulous dinner at Lu Ban afterwards. The food was exquisite and the service was outstanding. We had the most friendly, helpful service with a smile.
At the end of the meal Chef Paul came out and spent his valuable time talking to us and relaxing with us with a drink 🥃
Would highly recommend visiting. I am vegetarian and the veggie food was just as delicious as my friends.
Thank you for a great memorable experience.
S. M.
We left the restaurant feeling underwhelmed.
It’s disappointing when somewhere doesn’t live up to your expectations.
They were short staffed and this led to very long waits between courses, we had been there 1.5 hours and only had soup.
Dance/ rave music is played at a fairly loud volume, meant diners were raising their voices to be heated, it really was too loud!
The restaurant itself is really lovely, the presentation of the food was beautiful.
The food was good but not as good as we had hoped and it is very expensive ! £59 a head for a banquet, expected better.
We won’t be going back, the price doesn’t justify the experience unfortunately.
