Reviews of 1947 London
M.
Amazing place to eat, great atmosphere. Amazing service as the staff are really lovely and the food is just to juicy for words, you have to come and experience 1947 style!
D. B.
I visited 1947 over the weekend for a friends birthday. The decor inside was lovely. The food was fantastic and I’m not really a lover of Indian food, but I thought I would give it a try as it was my friends birthday. The calamari was absolutely delicious and had plenty of taste and the portion size was perfect. I had their signature dish (Prawn curry in a coconut shell) with rice. This was also lovely but a bit to much sauce inside for me. A few extra prawns would have been nice ☺️. Their cocktails were lovely and strong and we’re made very well. The lemon cheesecake was probably the best lemon cheesecake I’ve ever tasted 👌🏽.
The Customer service was excellent and the Assistant Manager was very attentive.
I would definitely come back to this restaurant. I have no complaints 😌
A. K.
Nice layout and service, but food is really overrated and overpriced. Biryani (signature dish) was bland. Chops were tough (but flavoured well). Butter chicken was nice, but you can find other restaurants with better value for money. Nicest thing was the shish kebab wrap.
H. V.
Food is overpriced, portions are nice in taste but very small. It is way too loud for a restaurant. Appreciate the DJ and vibe they are going for but if this is first and foremost a restaurant then people going there want to be able to speak to the person next to them without shouting.
B. S.
Nice atmosphere with good service, food and drinks served promptly, order chicken tikka, chilli paneer, samosa chaat and salt pepper chilli prawns, all the starters were very soft and full of flavour.
Mains we had butter chicken which was nice but I have had better elsewhere but was still very nice, lamb curry cooked to perfection but could of done with a little more chilli to my liking the meat was soft with no fatty cuts of meat.
Really wanted to try dessert but didn't have any room to, Dj was playing good late 90's/2000's RnB music which I loved as thats my era of music all the songs brought me back many good memories from the past, overall food, service and atmosphere was good and I wouldn't mind dining here again. Bill was £207 with drinks not bad for dining in expensive area of London.

Celebrated friend’s Birthday who came all the way from India. Had a fantastic time with mouthwatering food and magnificent atmosphere. Staff was very friendly and polite. Thank you everyone @ 1947.

Good food but heavily over priced!!
Literally TWO lamb chops will cost you £24! Does the food taste better than your normal priced Indian restaurant? No it does not.
Nice atmosphere, but couldn't understand if it's after a club vibe or a restaurant what with the DJ playing loud dance music. Had to almost shout to have a conversation whilst eating.
S.
The venue is quite deceitful smaller than what it shows on Instagram, however food was amazing...so tasty and full of flavour...defo worth a visit for a one off experience and the music was good too, you felt like getting up to dance. There wasn't much of an atmosphere and quite empty when we were there as I imagine if it had more people there would be a vibe.
R.
Great food and ambience, nice dim lighting and decor. Mains were tasty - butter chicken a must, nice rich thick sauce. Lamb dishes were were tender and well cooked. Recommend ++
S. V.
1947 was amazing, from the getgo you feel very special as you walk in, covid measures taken at the door which made us feel comfortable. We had reservations at 9:15, there was a live DJ and entertainment, the music was a little loud so it felt as if I had to shout to have a conversation but it's all apart of the overall atmosphere just takes a little adjusting to.
The food was amazing, we had the flaming prawns (and yes they are flaming.. not in spice level, but they were on fire as they were being brought to our table), and avacado bhel which was one of their recommended signature dishes.
Then for mains we shared a cup of butter chicken (hands down the best butter chicken I've had) and a side of garlic naan which was crisp and cooked to perfection and some rice. Oh and an amazing bottle of Italian wine. The food was lovely and was reflective of the price (minus the prawns - you're better of getting the curry instead of the starter).
The entertainment was lovely, the staff were fantastic, constantly checking up on us and noticed that we were celebrating a birthday and brought out the best cheesecake!
Towards the end of the night lots of people stood up to dance and overall was an amazing atmosphere and night!
Definitely one to try atleast once!
S. J.
A class apart! Mixologists gets an absolute round of applause... Chef gets a hats off for the delicious aromatic Indian food... Service and ambiance brings everything to a higher notch! A definite recommendation.
T. D.
Modern Indian food served in a nice setting. We ordered their chaap and paneer butter masala. Both were really good!
I also enjoyed their old fashioned. I already had a few drinks before getting there but would have loved to try their other cocktails!
It seemed like the place good get a tad too loud at some time so be cognisant of that.
s. a.
The food was lovely, the place is beautiful and cosy but the service is wow it was perfection. Everyone was so nice and staff was so attentive to our tables and everyone around us.
The place is perfect for curry lovers and lot of vegetarian options they had in menu.
Amazing experience we had. Definitely going back soon.
P. J.
One of the best restaurants I tried in London. Perfect ambiance. Food was very delicious.
L. T.
Honestly the food was so tasty!!! Me and a friend went for dinner but we’re very late due to taxis repeatedly cancelling but they were so understanding! The restaurant was such a good vibe! Staff were incredibly nice!! And management looked after me and my friend impeccably during our dinner! ✨🔥 10000% recommend!! Good music, good food and good staff!
J. S.
Beautiful place, awesome food and service. Great potion size, infact found them very generous Will be visiting again.
B. K.
Great experience food was outstanding, service were great. Definitely going again
L. L.
We had dinner here to celebrate a family birthday, it was fabulous from start to finish. Super friendly receptionist took our coats, our server was very attentive and friendly with the kids. Food was delicious, especially the flamed king prawns, mushrooms, chickpea side, lamb chops, salmon, lamb tikka masala, butter chicken and chocolate bomb dessert. The atmosphere and music was great, We’ve already booked to return. Thank you 1947.
L. H.
10/10. DELICIOUS food, if you love Indian food you'll love it here. Not your usual Indian restaurant but the food is beautiful and perfect if you want to try something different.
A. P.
Had a really great experience here, cannot recommend enough. We will be back soon for more of the calamari and coconut curry! The staff are very helpful with suggestions, never in the way either. We will be booking again soon
N. S.
The decor of this restaurant is definitely Instagram worthy!
The food was rich, tasty and not too oily like many Indian places can be, though perhaps the portions could have been a little bigger.
Service was also very impressive, with us never finding ourselves needing to seek out a waiter, nor feeling like they were constantly looming over us.
With every dish having a distinct flavour and some interesting takes on classic Indian dishes, this was a wonderful experience, though do be prepared to pay Central London prices for such an experience.
P.S. The rasmalai was some of the best we ever had
S. P.
Loved the food and drinks, staff were very attentive and we even met the owner who was really lovely. Nice ambience and lighting with DJ.
A. C.
Been here a few times and honestly I can’t fault the food at all. Their signature prawn dish and butter chicken are both excellent choices, as well as the kokum mojito and lychee mockitini. However I do think that a lot of the items are very over priced and the most disappointing thing about my recent visit was the DJ. The music is much too loud, I couldn’t even hold a conversation with the other people on my table. If I wanted to go to a nightclub I would have gone to one. I would urge the management to fix this issue as it really spoilt my experience and I’m not sure if I’d return.
S. K.
Food was generally ok(we are vegetarians). Expensive for the serving size. What was outrageous was the serving size of raita. It should be called a dip not a raita. No self respecting Indian or Indian restaurant will shift this serving size of 70-80ml as raita portion which costs £6. If you see the attached picture, please bear in mind the spoon is a tea spoon. We asked for some sliced onions, for which I was charged £5 which even Taj London charges £2.50.
Wanted to speak to chef for the serving size but given it was treat from my wife for my birthday, I kept quiet as I didn't want her to feel bad about her choice of place.
Overall 4 stars for food and service -1 for disgraceful raita size or call it as a dip.
I.
This place is super pretty 😍😍😍 we came here randomly the food was alright I liked the butter chicken but I found the biryani a bit meh.
p. S.
Outstanding Indian restaurant with warm welcoming and amazing vibe.
Had a Fantastic meal here. The staff were friendly, courteous and very attentive.
K. A.
Thankyou to all the staff for making our night amazing! Staff were enthusiastic and happy to help with all requests. The food was not only delicious, but was beautifully presented. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough!
M. R.
I don’t normally leave reviews but I have to share the amazing experience we had. My family and I visited yesterday with another family.
We had two young children (4 years old) with us. It’s not normal for a high-end restaurant to cater for young children but this place was something else. The staff positioned us in such a place that our young children wouldn’t disturb other diners and our seats were great too. When my daughter cried, Mr Ajay (owner/ partner) walked over with two haribo packs and gave it to the kids and instantly was a hit with the kids. Like, who does that?! 10/10 for child friendly.
The staff were super responsive and nothing was too much, a very friendly team indeed. They were always about to check on food and refilling drinks.
The food was delicious, in particular, the lamb chops and lamb masala. The size of the portions were generous and we as a group were satisfied.
The decor was luxurious and classy with awesome music and a great DJ. Sound levels fitted everyone’s preferences.
Mr Ajay also selected and packed some food away for us, which we initially didn’t want but the kids loved it for lunch today, so, thank you for insisting.
I would highly recommend 1947 as the place to dine with family or friends.
Thank you for the experience 1947.

I have been here twice. The first time I went with a friend and we just wanted some cocktails. We stubbled upon it cause of the beautiful outside display. We got seated near the bar. I got a mango lassi cocktail and she got an espresso martini. They were both delicious. The staff were very professional and friendly. The second time, we went for food and drink. I ordered the seabass and my friend got the asparagus contiki. We had fried okra to share. You'll see pictures attached. We both ordered the masala chai cocktail. I asked for it with white rum instead of vodka. It was not an inconvenience for them. The drink was incredible. Quite possibly the best cocktail I've ever had. Will definitely be going again. Highly recommended.
n. j.
Good food with quite a stunning ambience. The service was prompt and friendly. I found the presentation a light too loud.
n. p.
Overall OK experience. Food was average. Service was average.
N. J.
Amazing! Tremendous flavour, there is a wait for good reason. The food is gorgeous, the service is terrific. For a culinary bonus visit downstairs and see the Chefs rustle up the sought after naan breads. A truly wonderful experience all round. Absolutely love 1947 Indian Restaurant BAR and PIZZA Kitchen. ! It’s well worth to visit its, The experience was absolutely wonderful, we couldn't have hoped for anything better: service was EXCELLENT and perfectly timed, food was delicious, and overall atmosphere was amazing. Reservation service was great as well. One of the best Indian restaurant with Pizza Kitchen in town, no hesitation! Would recommend to go for lunch during the week,
Would definitely go again, my food was nice had to try the cheese naan as it was recommended and it never failed in fact i brought another one, it was so good.
I got the peg drink called the viceroy old fashioned And COBRA BEER (recommended by the person attended ) and it was good and came in a cute little bottle.
Beautiful place with beautiful and delicious food.. Definitely a must go location in London. Genuine Indian cuisine and always served with a smile and the food and drinks were delicious.
The atmosphere and energy in the place is nice.
K. M.
Lovely food, nice decor and the staff are very efficient. Loved it!
B. M.
Guys, it's a really peaceful place to eat, food and service was really good, there's only one thing to improve there's only 3 options for vegetarians !!
K. M.
Fantastic decor. Lovely relaxing atmosphere. Love the instrumentals on the background. Receptionist was very lovely. Starters were fantastic. Mains were really good too. However, the chef needs to control the salt as I felt it was a bit too much on the chickpea masala.

Central London Restaurant with Ilford Service.
Majority of the waiters were nice, the manager unfortunately was way beyond his skill set.
Asked for a Birthday dessert 6 times (not joking) for my brother and one of the 6 times we asked the manager.
When we were leaving I mentioned to shoeb the manager “I asked 6 times, what happened?” His response was: “you asked me once”
Just to also clarify to the response, I did not want a free dessert and we still tipped the waiters. That is a cheeky response.
Really disappointed and to be honest it’s too expensive for what it’s worth.
You rather go mowgli down the road or ilford 🤣
M.
Average food.. Overrated.. Wedding food is the best way to describe it

Enjoyed eating here, was a lovely dinner night. Food was very nice. Loved the Biriyani.

Great location, amazing decor and fantastic foods! The dessert was a little basic after such wonderful starters and mains whilst the chai tea was really weak and quite tasteless. The mocktinis are fabulous! The portions are all a little small in size and slightly expensive but taste delicious. The service was great, really attentive staff despite being so busy. Have been here twice already and will definitely be going back for thirds!
D. C.
Amazing food to enjoy food of this taste & standard is an understatement. My wife & enjoyed our food & will be back next year. The husband & wife team really know their stuff try it …

Amazing food and amazing customer service. They were so welcoming and helpful and the music was lit.. it added a special vibe to the food you ate. Only problem is it is an expensive restautent but worth it.
S. M.
Some of the best Indian dishes to eat at Central London or anywhere else is at 1947. Avocado bhel , Dal makhani, angare kabab and Kulfi were just fantabtulous. Must visit and decor is very contemporary and trendy.
G. B.
Elegant and smart new Modern Indian in Fitzrovia. Chefs hand picked including from the Oberoi Mumbai. Great menu with beautifully presented dishes... The Lamb Dum Biriani was perfect! Attentive and polite staff... Thanks Billy to you and your family for a great evening) This place is for a real treat!
E. L.
Great food, lovely decor but the music was too loud. Had to shout to have a conversation
D. D.
Very good food, with its high cost, very expensive booze, making for an exclusive night out. At this level it was a shame they ran out of our choice of wine early in the evening and twice got our cocktail choices wrong.
V. S.
Very welcoming
Food was great and very nice service
Without any doubt would recommend.
An excellent vegiterian restaurant in central London
A. W.
Enjoyed eating here, was a lovely dinner night. Food was very nice. Loved the Biriyani.

Amazing service, food and ambiance. Been meaning to go for a year now and only just got round to it but wish I had gone sooner. Highly recommend 1947!

Nice cosy atmospher. I did not get a chance to try the food as I only went for drinks.
A. S.
Came here for a birthday, food was really good just a shame about the service being a little slow. Also there was aircon issues so it was a little warm.
K. M.
Lovely food, nice decor and the staff are very efficient. Loved it!
N. T.
Genuinely impressed by this place. Great food, great atmosphere and the service is on point. Not too overbearing and not ignored either. With a special thanks to stefi (I think that's how you spell it) and yusuf. And thanks to the front of house manager.

From beginning to end our experience was very wonderful. From the greeter at the front door to the waiters, their customer service was fantastic. The decor and atmosphere was very nice comfortable and clean. The food was really tasty and the appetitisers were incredible. I would definetly recommend the chicken tikka and the crispy seekh kebab. The samosa chaat is also full of flavour. We will definetly be comimg back here to dine. 10 out of 10 from us.
R.
Food wasn't great but the cocktails were amazing as is the deco and ambience. Only had starters but would probably go back again to try mains and order a variety to see if it changes my mind.
T. K.
Amazing!!! The service was outstanding and very quick, everybody working there was so friendly and welcoming. Beautiful restaurant, the atmosphere was cosy. Choice of background music was good. And finally the food....just so so delicious the best Indian food i have had so far in central. I would recommend the following as that is what my friend and I had: Crispy lamb kebabs, Flaming maharaja prawns, Chicken tikka, Coconut seabass, Butter chicken, Garlic naan, Biryani, everything was good I will definitely re-visit.

I had a wonderful meal with my family last Saturday night. The restaurant was full of people and the environment of restaurant is just wow. We met soaib who is manager there and he took time to spoke to my family and explain each and single item on the menu to my dad and mother. He gave us the best service we ever received anywhere on the busy night like this. He made our visit special at all. For us it was really special night as we celebrating our parents anniversary. The food is amazing and authentic here. Will definitely come back again soon!
S. V.
Heavy food, could do with a bit more lighting in the dining area, way too dark.
R. “. A.
The decor was amazing, we visited during Halloween, they had gone all out with the decorations, it was lovely.
The staff were attentive and really lovely 🎉🙌🏾 the food was really nice, portion sizes could be bigger. The cocktails were delicious 😋 🙌🏾🎉🥰😍

Truly beautiful food and great service. The flavours were amazing- We loved it! This was a present for my birthday that we were only able to do now and when they heard, they brought me a cake! Thoughtful and warm service. Will definitely go back.
Thanks again

Delicious food and truly one of the best Indian restaurants I’ve ever been to! Our waiter Hussain took great care of us all night, went above and beyond. Both the service and the food deserve 5 stars! Will definitely be coming again.
M. V.
Absolutely fantastic. We are from Toronto- lots of great Indian food but I can truly say this is the best I’ve ever had. The tastes were perfect, flavorful without overpowering spice/heat. They also have a great wine selection to boot. Only suggestion to the owner is to dim the lights a bit to create a bit more atmosphere. We will be back!
k. k.
Lovely atmosphere but the music is to loud and food okish
N. S.
The food was delicious and had just the right kick. The decor was thoughtful, classy and cozy. The service was Excellent! I would highly recommend a visit! Also, they very compliant to Covid19 regulations: they take your temperature as you come in, etc.
All in all, best Indian food experience in London by far!
K. D.
Superb meal this evening. The food was amazing and good value, the restaurant ambience was top notch too. Our service was handled by Sergi who just brilliant and so attentive ( bravo). Met AJ at the end who even kindly as management took some photos!! Great experience and value for money !👍👍- Karl

I really wanted to give this place 4 to 5 stars but couldn't. Enjoyed my food, service was good, atmosphere and decor were upscale, prices were very high, especially for London and for the portion size. However, still with that I'd give this place 4 to 5 stars. This is where they lost points....after taking a few bites of my entree I asked to take it away since I wanted to leave room for dessert. I was told by my waiter that they couldn't offer takeaway due to COVID precautions. How ridiculous! The one thing that has never stopped during the entire pandemic, even when restaurants could not have their dining rooms open was the ability to serve food to go. So what is the difference here???That was something that he clearly made up. Considering my bill exceeded £180 for 2 people the least they could have done is to allow me to take my food to go if I could not finish it.
A. T.
The first time we ate here it was much better. Food was just ok. Service was a little slow and table was too small for the 4 of us. Cocktails however from the bar are great and the chocolate pudding is amazing.
H. J.
Great customer service, however the food doesn't live up to the prices in my opinion (especially for my palate). I would definitely recommend the lamb chops and lamb Kebabs, the mains were pretty average.
P. P.
Lovely ambience and superb service. We were made very welcome and all the staff were very attentive. The food is superb and tasty with the starter prawns outstanding with subtle flavours. Butter chicken another highlight. Wines reasonably priced and Malbec was smooth easy drinking. Will be coming again.
C. G.
Came for dinner last night, can honeslty say the food was unreal 👌 was so amazing had such a lovely evening the staff were so friendly and welcoming such a beautiful place to.go out.
L. H.
Great looking place. Service was amazing! They were so accommodating for my dietary restrictions.
If you're vegan - you wont be disappointed by the options.
Some of the best tasting food I've had in a LONG time!!
Oh...and the cocktails were delicious too.
T. S.
Delicious food and a great vegan selection. Loves the daal tadka, vegan chicken tikka and the channa masala. The vibe was great too although the music was quite loud! Only thing I'd say is It was far too expensive. But the food was delicious and great for one of special occasions.
I. S.
Great Indian food not to oily and great service. Very very delicious - rare to find!
B. N.
Brilliant place to visit🍱 The service was perfect; the food was terrific, Instagram worthy , me and my friend had amazing birthday celebration 🎂 All Chefs and managers made OUR VISIT WAY MORE ENJOYABLE, this place COVID safe, they are the first places we have eaten out since March and We felt VERY SAFE.

My friends and I had a lovely evening at 1947. The food was delicious and served well. The staff were attentive. The restaurant manger Sohaib, was the best. He made sure our evening ran smoothly and he made our meal special. His attention to detail is on point. He helped with our menu choices and drink choices. He is an asset to 1947. Keep up the good work Sohaib and staff xx :)
J. P.
Amazing food and drinks! I went today for a dinner with some friends and it was really lovely night ! Loved the place they have a good variety of dishes and drinks despite that it seems like a busy night the waitress put a great effort to give us the best friendly service and she actually recommended us a good drinks ! I will definitely come back again, only thing I will say they can improve is the music a bit too loud!
J. B.
My son and I had a meal last night and we had a fabulous meal with excellent service, I am gluten free so do have problems eating out but I was looked after extremely well.
Our lovely waiter recommended our wine which was perfect for our choice of meal.
Could not recommend highly enough with London having such an amazing choice of restaurants this one will not disappoint.
L. C.
We stumbled upon this place looking for a pizza place. What can I say the food was out of this world. My partner and son both had pizza. I had a curry. The curry was extremely tasty. My only complaint there was too much I couldn't finish it! Hostess was lovely tending to our every need. We wouldnt hesitate in eating here again.
M. I.
Great Indian restaurant with all vegetarian recipes, One of the best places for Indian cuisine in and around London. Have been there multiple times and they never disappoint, Food is pure veg here. Service was good (Specially for desserts - Amazing). Authentic tasty vegetarian indian food, must go for vegetarian. Awesomeeeeee. Decent and clean place. hygeinic food. Loved it. A fantastic and cost conscious very reasonably priced!
Very clean place with a team of polite and friendly people. Do not forget to try the ICE GOLA - Indian Style and Taste.. hard to find in London this Dish.
D. R.
Very testy food -perfect my acceptation . Like a home food 👍🏼customer service excellent.live music extra point . Clean perfect .keep it up

The waiter named Hussain( bangladeshi) worker was really attentive and polite.
Deco absolutely stunning. The food for me was not great, had too much aftermath strong taste too it, but il rate the green the chillies was nice lol
Z. M.
Butter chicken was amazing, the prawns were ok. The lamb dum biryani was good. For dessert I had the chocolate fondant, which I found to be a bit dry. However, service was good, staff were all very polite and overall was a pleasant experience.
Z. T.
We had a team dinner here.
Overall we really liked everything and will return
Reason for 3 stars... the lamb kebab is no different to eating paper albeit crispy paper... super bland plz try to make it better
For dessert Choc fondue we had to wait 30 mins... on an evening with hardly 3 other tables it was just too long and rather obvious that the manager had forgotten to put order through it was annoying to wait so long.
Other than that on the positive
Great chops
Great chicken items
Great okra
Great bhelpuri

Great evening. Had my birthday dinner here last night. I had planned it a couple of weeks ago with the restaurant and liaised with Kay who was very helpful, as well as the owner Ajay. The food was delicious and the service was good. The place is beautiful and a great relaxed but fun atmosphere. Thank you the team at 1947!

Welcome to 1947 London. Oozing class, situated in the heart of Fitzrovia. Named after the Indian Independence Act.
I was lucky enough to be invited to dine before the official opening.
This restaurant showcases pure deliciousness!!
The interior design is out of this world. Delicate colonial furniture combined with an impressive flower wall back drop. The lighting is spot on and the acoustics allow for a sophisticated dining ambience.
This restaurant has an ultra modern feel to it and there’s even a DJ booth for post dining until the early hours to perfectly compliment London’s energetic social scene. Intricate and vibrant.
The food is unique and inquisitive with a modern twist of bold spices. It serves classic and contemporary Indian cuisine. The prawns are to die for!
The cocktail list has all of the classics along with various drinks designed by the in-house experts.
1947 London. Just beginning and destined to be awarded a Michelin star in the near future. It’s inevitable. It’s delicious!
B. S.
Great looking restaurant. Centrally located in London. Price is what you would expect of a meal in this part of London approx £50/60 per head. Food was good, however, for the same type of meal, sometimes better, there are many India restaurants located in North London that would beat 1947. Still worth a visit. Not sure if I would go back. Their other restaurant in Camden is far better, but the food type is also different.
R. B.
Just returned from a phenomenal dinner experience! 1947 has only been open 3 weeks or so, yet runs efficiently and proficiently like a well established shop. We didn’t experience any novice kinks.
The decor - rich opulent fabrics and textures, high ceilings and dark interiors. Plentiful use of rich toned of colors such as emerald, copper and gold mixed in a subdued contemporary way with gun metal matte metals and slate.
The food - we stuck with very traditional punjabi classics as pertaining to their namesake and their forte. We ordered dal makhani, paneer butter masala and chicken biryani along with basmati rice, raita and a couple of breads (lachcha parantha and garlic naan). Every single dish was spot on. The dal makhani was flavorful, deep, mild and smoky. The paneer butter masala was tantalizing yet delicate balance of tartness and sweetness. This dish was rich but didn’t leave you feeling sick from an overuse of double cream. The “dum” chicken biryani was unraveled with a touch of drama! The chicken was tender and flavorful with a hint of ground spices. No spice in particular stood out one dimensionally. And luckily, no whole spices in the mouth. No potatoes in the biryani. The basmati rice in both the chicken biryani and the plain rice were perfectly al dente. Normally breads don’t get a special mention in my reviews because it’s hard to screw up a freshly baked tandoori breads but this place deserves a special shout out for its breads. Particularly so, 5 starts for its lachcha paratha - they (yes, plural. Ahem 3!) were crispy, flakey, layered, and oh so indulgent. Must order these! We ended the meal with a chocolate fondant, which was tasty but I thought £9 a tad bit steep for what was a tiny portion.
The service - the service was welcoming and warm from the get go. The hostesses were gracious about welcoming us, taking our jackets, seating us etc all the while engaging our chatty 7 year old daughter. Our waitress was efficient and pleasant. Our wait staff told us before we ordered that if we didn’t like something, they’d be happy to collect feedback and swap it out for something else. Wow. We didn’t have to do that as the food was fab! At one point, we had one of the partners of the restaurant give a tour of the kitchens to our daughter, who was beyond thrilled. Overall, the service was excellent!
We look forward to adding this to our rotation of local favorites! Fitzrovia badly needed an upscale Indian restaurant and I love that I won’t need to make my way to Mayfair for fine Indian anymore!

Food was good (not excellent) but it was super expensive for a basement restauraurant in fitzrovia. Not worth a second visit amongst the competitive London fine dining market. Portion sizes were also small.

I visited 1947 London last week with some family and loved my experience. The food was amazing and the service was outstanding from the moment we walked through the door. My daughter and I were very happy with the wide range of vegetarian options on offer - the Wild Mushroom and Chickpea Masala was particularly remarkable. The restaurant is in a great location - only a short walk from Goodge Street or Tottenham Court Road. I would recommend to anyone who is interested in modern Indian fine dining. We will definitely be visiting again.
S. K.
Situated a two minute walk from Goodge Street station and greeted by two fire torches at the entrance, you know you’re in for a treat when you walk down the stairs past the phenomenal flower wall to the rich purple, chocolate brown and emerald green decor. The majestic dining room has a low lighted glow which compliments the warmth of the delicious Indian fusion menu; delicious butter chicken, mini popodoms and sizzling king prawns to die for. Food that would entice even the boldest of curry sceptics. The finest Indian cuisine in the Capital.

Incredible gem. The best new restaurant in the neighborhood. The staff is friendly & have incredible service. The vibe is unexpected but shockingly good. Stumbled upon this place but it might beat Bao & Ottolenghi as my neighborhood favorite. Food is yummy! Must try.

fine dining at its best, original & imaginative menu , fusion of flavours, asparagus, corn & coconut samosas , butter chicken & a very different surprise dessert menu, can't wait for next visit: excellent all round.

Everything was perfect

Very Nice atmosphere and decor, the service was great and all the staff from door security, waiters, bartenders to the managers were all very friendly and welcoming from start to finish. The only reason this place is getting 3 stars and not 5 is based on the quality of the food. Ordered lamb chops and they were really tough. Would expect a little better quality for £28 for 2 chops. The other dishes we ordered were average at best and nothing to shout about. Overall great place to come if you want a fine dining experience, but food needs improvement.
