Absolutely amazing! I think one of the best tasting menu's I've eaten and the first West African restaurant I've been to. We went for the 9-course tasting menu (there is also a 6-course) and from start to finish the food was incredible, inspiring, surprising and just delicious, there was nothing at all to fault. The different types of cooking techniques and flavour combinations had us in awe and continually trying to test our palettes. If going for the 9-course menu then be prepared for a nice, relaxed and well paced 3 hours. Akoko have been very smart with the order and timings of bringing you each dish, by the end of it you'll just be really happy and satisfied. The staff were fantastic, explained each dish as they served it and were just a great team of people to have serving you. The price vs quality of food is 100% value for money, and would definitely recommend Akoko for any special treat or special occasion.
The restaurant has a great feel and atmosphere to it, the dinner sets they use are really unique and sourced from a variety of different independent makers which really does add to the experience. I can really see Akoko getting a Michelin Star very soon based on what I experienced today.

Expect a long lingering lunch. We spent 3 hours here slowly getting through the 9 course tasting menu.
Everything we tasted was well balanced and delicious. Dishes we thought would be our favourite would soon be eclipsed by the next dish. Wine pairing was spot on too.
Service was fantastic and friendly and it really made for such a relaxing ambience.

An amazing experience deserving of a Michelin star.
We did the 10 course dinner and could not fault any dish. I let them know in advance that I needed one of the menus to be vegetarian and they accommodated very well.
Every dish was well thought out and surprised us with flavours although it’s not typical west African cuisine.
Service was perfect, very attentive and friendly without being intrusive. They also gave us a card for my boyfriends birthday and gave us some treats to take home.

We celebrated our friends birthday in November 2021 and I have to say this was one of the best meal, experience, service we had in years. Our server (Italian)was amazing, kind , thoughtful and patient. Every single dish was curated beautifully. I love the african ingredients mix with Japanese influences. Dessert was amazing. At the end of the night our server handed a birthday card signed by the whole staff and a small box with Akoko signature treats. If we could give them 7 stars we would. We will definitely come back again.

Superb! One of the best food experiences you could find in London. Do not miss this place even if you know nothing about West African food, you will be impressed with its cuisine, its flavors and finesse. Impeccable service, lovely wine selection, the deserts and even the coffees are a must try as they are absolutely amazing!

This was the most sublime dining experience I’ve had this year. From the service, to the surprise 9 course menu and the ambiance. I am Nigerian and I was consistently pleasantly surprised by every course - creatively authentic and at the same clearly West African inspired. Still not over having Shinto and Caviar fused in one dish. And the dessert and pre- desserts! Oh my Goodness! Try it, with friends or without. I have added just a few pictures so I don’t give too much away.

Impeccable service, good vibe and nice concept. Quite an enjoyable dinner, but I found the menu a bit too conservative. Don't get me wrong the food is definitely good, but I feel like the flavour and preparation could be a little bit more... adventurous. In our visit, there were multiple courses with mushrooms/mushrooms sauce and two consecutive courses prepared with lamb. Finally the dessert was a bit of a let down, chocolate and ice cream is good, but I'd expect something more 'african' maybe?

Update: Second visit to Akoko last night.
The place was much busier than our first visit earlier in the year, though they continue to maintain the same standard of food and overall service, if anything there was an extra element with the added atmosphere.
Clearly the service couldn't be as personable this time round as it was so busy, but the overall experience was again, faultless.
Original: Outstanding. One of the nicest, most rounded experiences I think we have ever had. Each course was faultless.
Service impeccable, friendly, attentive but not over the top.
Beers, not a huge range, but thought has gone into them and two complimentary brews.
We literally could not fault this place.
Highly recommended.

Definitely think this place will get a star. African vibes and flavours into some creative dishes. All delicious and made me reminisce on my time in west Africa. Loved it. Was extremely full from the 9 courses could barely breathe!

The most incredible meal I’ve ever had!! Took my partner to Akoko for his 30th last week and we were absolutely blown away by how unbelievably delicious the food was and how accommodating and lovely all the staff were. We did the 9 course tasting menu and each dish was a taste sensation. We were also lucky enough to be sat at the counter next to the kitchen which really added to the experience, being able to chat with the chefs and see how they worked together so in sync and what a happy kitchen it seemed. At the end of our meal, our waiter gave my partner a birthday card signed by all the staff along with some complimentary petit fours and a little box containing two macaroons. The little extra touches made the meal feel incredibly special. We will definitely be returning for the next special occasion and will be trying the wine pairing too!

West African cuisine with a modern interpretation that is executed so flawlessly
in a relaxed environment.
Exceptional service where the servers explained every single course with meticulous precision and knowledge.

Just a great all round experience
Came for my birthday with my parents, girlfriend and brother. None of us had any real prior experience with eating West African food, but wanted to do something different and so saw it as a culinary adventure.
It is safe to say all generations were positive surprised by what we were served. The Paserene white wine was a great selection too and the staff was very friendly and on top of things. Would love to come back when the new menu is served.

An amazing experience, our first fine dining in a long time and what a way to start again. The food was perfect, I could not fault a single dish. Service was attentive, friendly and made the night special. I cannot recommend enough

This restaurant is a MUST visit!!! The interior design inside is absolutely beautiful. Every single staff member was caring, kind, attentive and knowledgeable about all the dishes. The FOOD WAS UNREAL! Honestly one of the best tasting menus I have ever had! My husband and I had the best valentines ever. Lastly I am pregnant and there was an option of a juice pairing. Every single juice was literally beautiful and for once during my pregnancy and not drinking alcohol I felt so involved and special! Even if you are drinking booze I would still recommend!
Thank you so so much to everyone for such a fantastic and unforgettable evening. I will definitely be returning!!! Please do not change, what a breath of fresh air the whole experience!!
S. P.
A truly stunning meal. I could eat that over and over again. Every dish was so perfectly flavourful and the textures were intentional and thoughtful. Highly recommend to enjoy a nice lunch or dinner here.
D. C.
The food was delicious and the staff were excellent, we went for the six course tasting menu with wine pairing and as two men wish we’d gone for the nine course as we could’ve eaten more! The staff were knowledgeable, particularly the sommelier who helped us understand a lot more about the wine’s on offer for the pairing.
T. W.
I was treated by friends for my 30 plus Vat birthday and what a treat. This is an amazing dining experience. A full tasting menu with exceptional palette teasers and wonderful wine selection. The service was exceptional. Be prepared to stay for a while to fully immerse yourself in each course.
With the open kitchen you really get to see what effort is put into every dish.
I tried foods I wouldn't dream of but wrapped up in the warm and welcoming surroundings, with great friends made it an experience I won't forget and crave to go back again soon.
5 star all round.
J. P.
Great dining experience with interesting unfamiliar flavours and just deliciousness. Interior is very warm and modern. The kitchen is open and there are tables in front where you can see the chefs cooking. Would highly recommend.
M. K.
A very enjoyable tasting menu experience. Particular highlights were the Turbot and Octopus. Some quirky cocktail and soft drink options too. My only criticism would be quite a strong yam and peanut flavour profile across dishes. Also some more vegetable might have been nice.
R. J.
One of the best meals I have ever eaten. The 9 course tasting menu is an absolute must over the 6 course menu. Every single dish was an amazing experience and the staff were so great. Can not fault the place. The oyster and scallop were my highlights.
A.
Wow what an experience! Great service and unbelievable food. Make sure you get the nine course meal; absolutely worth it…we regretted getting the 6 course meal. We didn’t want to stop eating!
S. B.
Simply amazing; my wife and I went there in search of a nice relaxed meal and had the 9 course tasting menu over 3 hrs. Each dish was perfect, and the wine pairing exemplary. Very much looking forwards to returning...

One of the best restaurants I've been to in 10 years in London and one of the few I've gone back to repeatedly. First class food and friendly, down-to-earth service. Last time (2021) it was slightly noisy as a big birthday party was seated nearby (the walls/floor are hard so don't dampen noise), but the last time, no problem. Otherwise, really cannot fault this place. Incredible food.
H. L.
Fantastic food, service and atmosphere. A perfect fine dining experience. The staff were very friendly and the chef's spoke to us at the end asking about our evening and how we enjoyed the food. Brilliant.
Would recommend sitting at the counter so you can see the food being prepared in the kitchen for the best view!
F. F.
Great tasting experience this afternoon, and quality service all round from the waiters who take the time to explain each course to you, and recommendations on how to enjoy it for the best tasting experience. Special shout out to Hermine (one of the waitresses) for her humour and all round welcoming approach. Would definitely be back, and would absolutely recommend.
a. z.
Absolutely stunning food set in a well thought out restaurant that matches the food & West African theam. Set in the heart of Central London off Oxford St this restaurant offers something unique & the food sets off conversation with each course served along with a disruption by the knowledgeable staff, all in all its a must for foodies & gramers alike
I. L.
Really enjoyable evening - we really liked all the dishes on the tasting menu. The pumpkin soup was standout and the butter that came with the bread was a treat. All the flavours really worked together - it was rich but in all the right ways! Cool place with beautiful decorations. All the staff were friendly and the dishes came out very quickly. Happy we had the chance to try this place. Talented chef and we hope they do well in this challenging environment.
C. B.
I love this new restaurant. The staff were so funny and personable and the food was the best African gourmet I have had in London. Very good food and still very authentic flavours. The vegan menu doesn't compromise on flavour either. There were even vegan dishes I would have taken on the non vegan menu. The restaurant was well spaced for social distancing also. I'll definitely be returning.
J. T.
This restaurant absolutely blew me away.
The entire 9 course tasting menu was so delicious and such an experience. The fact that they don’t show you a menu to start with, made the evening full of anticipation and excitement. Each dish had amazing flavours and felt authentic and modern. Even the intricately designed plates and cutlery they was served on was special and tied the whole dish together each time.
I’m one never usually impressed by service, but each dish was served so efficiently and every single staff member we encountered was knowledgable and lovely to speak to.
Our main waiter, Etienne however, was an absolute star and made our visit to Akoko that much more special with his warm, personable approach and was so attentive and informative. We were so surprised to hear it was only his 3rd day of working there!
I’d whole heartedly recommend this place to everyone I know!
M. C.
Easily the best dining experience I’ve had in London. I can’t think of another restaurant that’s more deserving of a Michelin star than this one. We had the long tasting menu and wine pairing and everything was flawless- the service, glassware, cleanliness, etc. The flavors were unique and a new experience but in the best possible way. I will definitely be back, and I can easily say I would recommend dining here to anyone.
T. d.
Incredible service with attentive waiters and nonstop wine refills. The food experience was out of this world and is 100% in the top 3 meals I've ever had. Would recommend this restaurant to anyone in London looking for a eye opening culinary experience.
P. A.
Fabulous night. Food was varied and every course cooked to perfection. The staff were brilliant and really enhanced the experience.
S. A.
Great. Everything is true about the experience of this place. It's clear that this is a love song to West African food and you can really taste that emotion in the food itself. We had a very thoughtful server as well. Very amazing experience.
E. W.
My partner and I came to Akoko last night for the first time and were extremely impressed with absolutely everything that this restaurant had to offer. We loved the unique yet simplistic decor, the friendly, welcoming staff with such attention to detail, the food was like nothing else I’ve ever tasted before, absolutely delicious and what a fantastic experience. The head chef (Theo) is brilliant and so passionate about what he does. We loved the open kitchen and how spotless the restaurant/kitchen and toilets were. We will definitely come again! Thank you to all of the staff for making our night so special and memorable. From Emma and Mike x

Definitely would deserve a Michelin star! Great food, great service, and a lovely atmosphere!
M. S.
Wow - from the welcome snacks to start right through the numerous dishes on the evening tasting menu, my wife and I have never had food and flavours like it; all plated with meticulous eye for detail. It goes to show just how good the food is, when you cannot pick a favourite dish of the many!
The service was excellent, nothing was too much trouble. We opted for the wine pairings, which were fantastic and an opportunity to try something a little different - all expertly explained by the sommelier.
A thoroughly enjoyable evening at Akoko. Would highly recommend to all for a truly unique dining experience. Well done and thank you again to all the Akoko team.
A. L.
A wonderful experience. Exquisite, beautifully crafted dishes packed with subtle flavours. I strongly recommend this place. It tastes more expansive than it actually is.
N. I.
We had an excellent (if very expensive) dinner at Akoko. The flavours were unique and interesting and the wine pairing complemented the food very well. The service was attentive and friendly and the decor and atmosphere intimate and memorable. Highly recommended for a taste for something different.

** updated review;
Absolutely outstanding food and service here at Akoko having been 3 times now, each time is better than the previous. The standouts were the octopus, lamb skewer, jollof rice, and turbot. Price for the full tasting (9 courses) is £95 now, which is still great value considering the quality. Really is one the best restaurants to pop up in London in the last few years. A must go.
** original review
Amazing experience at new West African restaurant Akoko! Atmosphere was relaxed, smart, and welcoming. Menu was a succinct 5 course tasting, with all the dishes absolute successes. In particular the pumpkin soup, jollof rice, and quail were standout dishes that will definitely keep us coming back. Flavours were all on point, really interesting and innovative. No hesitation in recommending at all, especially with the friendly and knowledgeable service which added to the whole experience. Wouldn’t be surprised at all if this gained a Michie in the next guide. Total triumph of a restaurant. Total bill £170 for the two of us including 2 drinks each. 18/20 easily
M. S.
Food was certainly good but not consistently spectacular; biggest issue was the service - I had to ask for the bill three times, and generally you feel forgotten / ignored once the tasting menu is done (I even wanted to order a drink and couldn’t get anyone’s attention); atmosphere is buzzy
J. S.
A great atmosphere - I liked the decor and mood, and particularly appreciated the cutleries, they are unique and elegant. Food was interesting and well executed, and nice staff!
H. C.
Amazing set menu based on African spices. Modern cooking and well chosen wine list. Counter seating offers view of the kitchen and best place to seat imo. Expecting to see at least 🌟 from Michelin in 2022.
G. Y.
Amazing team and delicious food. Would love a bit more spice but everything was incredible 🙌🏽

I heard good things about Akoko restaurant a few months ago and decided that I had to go check it out for myself. Lockdown 2.0 happened, and here we are on a cold December 2020 afternoon, for a lunch time Saturday treat! 👌🏾
A very friendly welcome set the tone for a relaxed afternoon. The interior, ARTWORK, and music were just the right vibes!
I opted for the Tasting Menu. It gives me an opportunity to try different things on the menu.
The Tasting menu started off with a trio of Snacks. I enjoyed the Isu Black Truffle, and the tiniest spiced goat pie.
The Egusi, (melon seed sauce) smoked Tiger Prawns, served with sorrel and shellfish oil was OH! so good! You haven't cooked Egusi like this before. Trust me. Not if you are Nigerian. Can't speak for the rest of the continent. This Egusi & smoked Tiger Prawn set the tone for what was to follow. If you can, and it does ramp up your final bill, go for the wine pairing.
The crescendo! Enter the Smoked Jollof Rice, with Umami stock! The orchestrated presentation was as good as it tasted! I could have had seconds. The marriage of flavours was superb! Now, was it Nigerian or Ghanian Jollof? Go visit to and come back and tell.
The tender barbecued English beef, served with served with charred onions and Suya spice was delicious. The Suya spice was a mild version of what I'm used. Turn it up a notch next time.
The paired wines were on point! The lady knows her stuff.
Finished off with an understated Goat Milk Parfait and Uda Ice cream, with what was meant to be Ginger and cashew crumbs. Sadly, I think the ginger was missing. I needed the ginger to close off the final act! Maybe next time..? Akoko, you owe my ginger and not the Somi version.
I highly recommend Akoko. Go taste and see that the food is good. See you again soon.
A. R.
Great service, quality and ambience. Not quite the African flavours or textures that we were expecting, but everything was cooked well. Staff included personal touches for my partner's birthday which was really really lovely! Thank you x

Summary: One of those places that you'd definitely want to return to. Atmosphere is great, food is even better.
When you first enter the space you're greeted with a warm atmosphere and the beautiful sound of west African music.
The open kitchen affords you the opportunity to watch the chefs perform what can only be described as magic.
From the first bite of food you're transported to a far away, yet familiar world. For those of us who were born in the motherland, the nostalgia could almost bring you to tears. The chefs have found a way to corral authentic and untamable flavours into bite sized packages. Small enough to leave room for the rest of the tasting menu but big enough to drive home the artful marriage of flavours.
I will try not to give away too much as the element of surprise plays a part in the experience. The tasting menu I had began with a trio of treats that rekindle memories of a childhood spent buying snacks from road side grills. The smokey taste of a well roasted yam and the subtle co-operation of boli and epa.
If you've had the pleasure of eating in an African country, your first reaction might be to question the portion sizes, but remember, there are more courses to come. The next course was what I can only describe as the best pumpkin soup I have ever tasted. The soup was light and multilayered, with an incredible depth of flavour, I found myself savouring every spoonfull and wishing the moment would never end, but alas, time doesn't stand still, even for the best of reasons.
Next came the jollof rice, rich with the taste of firewood and perfectly cooked. Anyone who is a connoisseur of the fine art of eating jollof knows that smokey party jollof is difficult to pull off. The chef knocks it out of the park, the rice is so good you forget about the slice of a goat ballotine that was placed gingerly on top of it.
At this point I had convinced myself that the pumpkin soup was unbeatable, the summit of flavour, but then came the quail. The tiny bird packed a punch reminiscent of the smoked guinea fowl you can buy on the Lagos mainland, but it was so much more tender and succulent. Now I'm not saying the pumpkin soup was dethroned, but it now shared it's place in my heart with this small and seductive bird.
I'm not a big fan of desserts and I don't think desserts are a massive part of West African cuisine but the final course was a goat milk ice-cream accompanied by some culinary twists and turns. I have to confess I had already tasted my favourite things, but this was wonderful.
All in all, I can say I will definitely be coming back here to relive the experience.
l.
Surprising restaurant with a very interesting menu based on West African Cuisine. The feeling is informal but service and food quality is up to a high standard. Glad to see new restaurants with different approach to food.

Akoko fine dining at its best
There was a time in london, mid 90’s, when most restaurant service was world class. Unfortunately that’s not the case anymore.
There are too many mediocre restaurants in London.
Akoko is a return to a by gone golden age of great food and service in the capital.
The food has the accuracy and intelligence of a neuroscientist, the dazzling charm and entertainment of a leading soprano.
Like a good musical score. They take you up, down and up again. A lot of very clever though has gone in to the menu.
Which is world class. These guys will get a Michelin star. I’m sure of it.
The ingredients are shipped only from the best suppliers. The lamb they serve is only made for select restaurants.
The staff are chic, highly knowledgeable (there’s nothing they can’t tell you about the food. Ask them) and approachable.
All the small details are done at a very very high level.
I was shocked to find that this is their first restaurant.
I can only imagine how much better they’ll get.
Good food is about living. Good living.
If you love life. You will love Akoko
N. N.
Delicious food and wine at a really great price. The tasting menu was delicious, as was the wine pairing. Looking forward to going back.
A.
I wasn't sure what to expect from an African restaurant. Having visited east Africa I was expecting stews, ugali and jollof. The food was very refined with some western African flavours. Having worked as a barman, I can also say the cocktails with their African flavoured twist, were exceptional.
L. D.
You should try their temperance pairing or soft pairing. It has been the best pairing we've ever had. Food was also perfect and service was amazing.
P. B.
A wonderful experience! Went for the 9 course tasting menu. Something different and Worthwhile!
P. K.
We spent an amazing evening there. Top service, top food!
N. S.
We had an excellent dinner at Akoko and thoroughly enjoyed their tasting menu. The food was superb with an array of wonderful flavours. The chef is very engaging and has created a taste of Africa with a fine dining feel. The staff were brilliant, very attentive, friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The atmosphere is great and Akoko is definitely worth a visit...you won't be disappointed.
A. L.
My daughter took me to Akoko for a six-course birthday lunch last Saturday. I was not sure what to expect when she told me that it is an "African" restaurant. What I did not expect was the restaurant to be so up market, sophisticated and situated on a nice quiet road just off Oxford Street. The design and ambiance of Akoko is second to none. The staff were professional, attentive and knowledgeable about the contents and history of each course. The selection of wines was very selective and the one that I had was a sensation to my palate. Having an open planned kitchen is always reassuring for me and the seating was spaced. Each course was outstanding in look and my tastebuds were taken on a pleasant tour of West Africa. Akoko will possible be a game changer in uniqueness. I have and will tell everyone about Akoko and I wish it all the success it deserves and will definitely go back, soon. Well done, Akoko.
J. B.
This is the best meal I've had in a long time. My girlfriend is from The Gambia and she was incredibly impressed with all the dishes, the way they captured nostalgic flavours of home in a new and experimental way. The head chef, Theo was incredibly accommodating as was our waiter Enzo. I cannot sing the whole team's praises enough - it really made our anniversary a very special one!
M. S.
This place is one of the nicest restaurants I have ever eaten in by far... Each course from the tasting menu was better than the last. A perfect environment for any occasion friendly owners and extremely helpful staff and is well on the way for a much deserved star.
L. N.
Fantastic meal at Akoko. Food, service and ambience were all great.
In particular the hogget / miso cream dessert / jollof rice / octopus dishes were fantastic. The wine pairing was also enjoyable. The baobab pre dessert filling was a little too tart and the deer was good but nothing special.
Only minor issues were that it is a bit too loud so cannot clearly hear the food / wine descriptions from the staff, no hand towels in the bathrooms at the end of the night and having to ask for our coats when leaving.
On the whole a great experience and expect them to be a likely candidate for a Michelin star.
A.
This restaurant absolutely blew me away. They accommodated my gluten and dairy intolerances fantastically with a personalized menu. Each dish was extremely flavorful and delicious.
A. S.
Beautiful restaurant and fantastic vegetarian tasting menu. Cocktails are innovative. Will definitely be back on another visit to London.
P. S.
We wanted to try something different and Akoko did not disappoint! The food was interesting, beautifully presented and delicious. They used ingredients we'd never heard of, but the combinations we're all fantastic. Our party had dietary restrictions and the team were fantastic in accommodating this as well. If you want to make dinner the main event, Akoko is certainly worth a try.
V. B.
Excellent! Definitely deserves a Michelin star.
S. O.
Absolutely wonderful!!! The team are so friendly and genuinely care about your experience - the perfect level of attentive, knowledgable about the menu, and really fun! We went for the tasting menu and every single dish was outstanding, beautifully presented and with so much flavour. The wine pairings were full of surprises - even the wine glasses are out of this world! Everyone should go. I can’t wait to go back!
S. T.
One of the best meals I’ve had in over a decade in London. Everything was so inventive. Brilliant vibe. Great service. Wine delicious. Can’t recommend highly enough.
L. w.
food was great! My favourite was the homemade cola, it's a must try.
J.
Food was great, with no boring courses. Staff were top; service was impeccable, and they were really friendly and had good vibes, which reflected the laid back but lively atmosphere of the restaurant. This place is only going to grow in popularity.
L. F.
We had a wonderful evening at Akoko. We took the 6-dished tasting menu, it was truly delicious, and a great experience!
One of the best restaurants in town.
S. V.
Loved it, we had the taster menu and it's all based on Nigerian food. Really good service as well. Give it a go, young exciting chef who's got great attention to detail. Would throughly recommend.
X. S. P.
This restaurant has managed to impress by opening in the mids of the COVID pandemic and serve the most amazing food, in a really chic and fancy environment. The staff are all very polite and friendly and will walk with you through the tasting menu explaining to detail each one of the dishes. Even though each dish is relatively small, you will leave the restaurant feeling nicely satisfied. The experience is rather pricey but is worth all of it.
Y.
We enjoyed every meal. Perfect food
L. C.
Had dinner here the last night before 2nd lockdown and I have to say it was the best choice for one last night out. The tasting menu is inventive and beautifully presented. I also recommend going for the wine pairing menu, the chosen wines complemented each dish beautifully. The ambiance is sleek but warm, you know you are in a high-end restaurant but it doesn't feel stiff or too formal. Service was attentive and kind. Overall, a great experience. I was surprised to hear that they had opened only 5 weeks earlier, it felt like a well-oiled machine!
A.
A delightful experience. Amazing flavours, taste and textures complimented by really attentive service.
O. T.
I've considered everything. From the welcome, through the service, to the quality and taste and presentation of the food. The pride that's obvious in the hosts. My conclusion? Excellent, in all regards. (9 course taster menu, wine pairing)
H. G.
Superb food, really interesting, varied and innovative cooking. Stunning cocktails (had three!) and the most welcoming and insightful staff. I would recommend wine pairing too - natural wines, unexpected combinations but really worked.
M. M.
Attended Akoko last month when restaurants were allowing guests back in. Whilst the interior felt welcoming, and the choice of material (tables, cutleries, plates, ..) was really pleasing on the eye the noise level for a place where you are likely to have a tasting menu over a few hours was simply too high. A better job could have been done to reduce the noise in the room.
But the main reason for the 3 stars was simply the lack of consistency across the plates. Whilst the amuse bouches, bread / butter were fantastic, the issues started to show up with the problem of temperature on the crab plate. Some were warm, some were cold on the table. The Turbot, whilst being aesthetically speaking one of the nicest of the evening, was lacking any taste and was rather bland. The taste did not make the aspect any justice unfortunately. The final meat dishes were again, really good and could not fault them.
I can only put the issues down to "lack of practice" following the lockdown break, as clearly we are talking consistency issues rather than anything else.
I will be returning, and hopefully find consistency across all plates this time.

My friend and I ordered one vegan tasting menu (for me) and the standard tasting menu (for her). Both were very well received, the plantain, soup and tigernut and and banana dessert were standouts for me but everything was incredible and staff were attentive without being overbearing. A wonderfully thought out menu with delicious food full of flavour. Highly recommend!
l.
We visited within a few weeks of their opening, and the place was pretty busy. Only a tasting menu was on offer, priced at £55. This cuisine is pretty unusual in central London, so it is certainly an interesting menu with some different flavour combinations. We really enjoyed the soup and lobster course, the jollof rice and the dessert. The quail dish was a bit overcooked though.
While the food was pretty solid, the service was a bit disorganised and it ended up being a rush to get through the menu before they closed at 10pm. However, given they just opened I wouldn’t penalise them too much for this, especially as they proactively acknowledged and apologised for the delays. Our bill came to £112 per head, including drinks. An enjoyable meal overall. That said, we also had a chance to visit a very similar restaurant recently (Ikoyi), and the latter was our clear favourite from the two places.
V. T.
Came here for a friends birthday. The food was beyond fantastic and the service was phenomenal! Highly recommend this place I’m counting the days until I can return
K. W.
Really enjoyed the food, not enough people working on service and it was definitely felt
D. M.
The tasting menu alongside the wine pairing was probably the best food I've eaten, everything from the service to the decor is outstanding. Cannot recommend Akoko enough
o. o.
It was epically delicious.
Unusual exciting flavors.
The Miyan Taushe Lobster must be a standard and must never leave the menu. The music was incredible and the service was impeccable. So happy to see WAfrican cuisine taking its rightful place. At the top.
A. L.
Absolutely outstanding food & impeccable service- best dining experience I've had in a very long time. Strongly recommend the wine pairing.
F. K.
WOW! What a fabulous place - great food, such warm and hospitable staff. An absolute joy of a place that I can't recommend highly enough. It's everything a restaurant should be. A big thank you from me to the whole team at Akoko for making my day.

The food at Akoko was unbelievable! If I could wake up in a bowl of their jollof rice every morning I'd be a happy man! The quail was also amazing and the burnt uda cream and goats milk ice cream desert was like a party on my tongue! I will certainly be back!
