Reviews of Black Cat café

Food in this café is fresh, tasty and simply delicious. Portions are generous and ingredients clearly quality and fresh.
We came here first about 4 years ago and there was a more extensive menu there and more traditional health vegan food so when yesterday we saw the smaller menu with what looked more liked the current trend for “dirty” fast vegan food I felt disappointed. When the food arrived those thoughts changed fast as there is nothing “fast” food about their sandwiches, salad and chips. I had the chick-pea tuna melt toastie and it was packed full of a delicious mix that was exactly like a tuna melt but not soggy, nor too full of mayo. Perfect texture, balance and seasoning. My husband had the Seitan deli sandwich and was equally delighted. Chips were lovely too.
We visited on a Monday lunchtime and cafe was full. Great atmosphere and a trendy vibe.
We’ll be back.

Love this place. Delicious food with generous portions. Such a relaxed atmosphere. Want to eat everything off the menu!

Awesome seitan toastie. Generous portions too! Very friendly place. They were happy for us to use laptops to get some admin sorted whilst we finished our drinks (mid week and restaurant not busy - we checked with staff they were happy before use).
Would definitely recommend!
J. B.
Had a lovely "chicken" burger that was very flavoursome! Also a cappuccino, choc and PB milkshake and a choc and PB brownie, all really delicious! Would happily come back to support comrades making delicious food! 😀

Food is absolutely flavourful, wholesome and delicious! Very hearty portions with quality ingredients, so it’s worth the price. Staff are friendly and helpful. Cosy, airy cafe yet professional. The kind of vegan cafe that makes it easier to eat healthy and lower one’s carbon footprint as their foods are tasty and addictive, and with the spacious, comfortable and communal style space they proffer.
j. h.
Excellent food, big portions, filling, healthy and varied.
Super tasty! (Guiltily surprised as am a non-vegan)
B.
Deeelicious vegan food! Visited a few weeks ago and enjoyed my late lunch :) a very relaxed and laid back atmosphere too. It’s maybe not the most aesthetically pleasing but the food makes up for it. The only negative was my boyfriend said his oat milk coffee didn’t taste great, but I’m more of a tea lover and so this wouldn’t put me off coming back to eat all the food... (and more tea ;)).

My favourite vegan cafe in all of London. Been coming to this café for a number of years. The food is great value and high quality! I miss the book selection as they have had to reduce the non food section but some literature is available still. Check out the vintage Profane Existence zines while eating some delicious setain.

Cosy Vegan Cafe, one of the best vegan places I have ever been to. This cafe has a relaxed atmosphere with about 7 main dishes to choose from. We went for the beef burger and the lasagna. Both came with a fresh salad. Both dishes were extremely tasty and hearty. Have to say it's probably the best burger I have ever had! Had a mango and raspberry pastry to follow. Was slightly dry but still great tasting. Loved this place. Will be back to try the breakfast soon.

Probs one of my favorite brunch spots in London! This restaurant is all vegan so I love that I can get every thing on the menu. I always go for the fry up (they only serve this on weekends). It’s so delicious! I’m not usually a baked beans fan but I end up devouring the beans they use here. The tofu scramble is also seasoned well and I think they make their on mock meat! Which is cool. The potatoes are also nice and crispy. You can either choose to have a pancake or toast and I always go for a pancake! I feel like £9 is a reasonable price for all this vegan goodness in London! I’ve also had the curry here for dinner and it was also nice and filling! The cafe is located in a quiet part of hackney in the middle of a lot of houses, so it’s quite peaceful. They also have a variety of vegan baked goods at the front counter which look amazing!
C. B.
Cosy, friendly, tasty. Great ethics, workers cooperative, vegan, upholds values.
Coffee not great but food really was. Filling, large portions and tasty. Been several times and I’m never disappointed.
In the summer the windows open up and you can sit on a coffee bag in the window sill and chill. Relaxed vibe.

We travelled an hour from West London to visit this place as it was highly recommended! Gutted that the full English was sold out but was happy with the dishes we got instead!
The seitan was well marinated and everything tasted great. The portion sizes were very filling too! Can't wait to travel back and try out more.
K. K.
Had my birthday brunch in Black Cat, I had the Caribbean style curry, it was nice, but wasn't very 'Caribbean' except for the fried plantain that accompanied it. The portion sizes were HUGE, I don't think that any of us were able to finish the whole meal.
It's in a strange place, you wouldn't really expect it.
I will definitely go back.
K. G.
Nice cozy place. I liked the vegan food here. I hope they increase their options as having good number of options always make you feel hungrier!
I. C.
It is safe to say I love this place! It's spacious, has great food and friendly staff. The pastries were good too, although the sausage roll was a little dry and could probably be better if heated up :)
V.
Lovely vegan cafe, the menu changes often but the food is always lovely! No alcohol, but they have hot beverages and soft drink.
J. S.
Wow, that was amazing, and will be returning. Great food, fill your belly portions and lovely staff. 5⭐ Vegan spot.
R. J. K.
Black Cat Café is an incredible establishment. The food is so good here, and with such large portions.
Located just a few minutes from Hackney Central and the Hackney Downs and with late hours for a café, it's one of the best spots for a cosy afternoon that stretches into evening.
Since reopening after lockdown, it now offers table service and the social distancing inside the restaurant is a great standard, with every other table marked to stay empty, giving you and your friends a reassuring distance from other diners.
N. R.
Had an excellent time and delicious food at the Black Cat Café. A straight forward and friendly feel to the place. It seemed like a lot of the other guests were regulars. Their peanut curry with rice felt home made in the best of ways. The espresso was adequate, but then I'm very picky with my coffee
J. O.
Friendly staff warm welcome even for my German shepherd .

My first time in a Vegan coffee shop and I'm impressed! The staff is friendly and attentive. You can definitely feel good vibes in this place. Two thumbs up ladies!
A.
Love this place. Food is tasty, portions are big and it was surprisingly cheap for what it was. This will become one of my fave places for vegan food.
I. K. (. K.
Awesome little vegan cafe in Hackney. Definitely a hidden gem in East London.
Staff and food were amazing! Whilst you wait you can also pick a book up to read and it can be related to vegan recipes or artistic stuff.
I ordered the savory pancake with salad, black rice and potato salad. It was tasty! My friend who ordered the fishless and chips was also tasty. The vegan fish tasted almost like a fish with the texture and the looker like skin.
They also have window seats they opens up completely so its cool when the summer arrives.
Eventhough its self order service i would still give it 5 stars because the food and price is on point!
C. H.
Food is incredible, very generous portions too!
A. c.
Used to come here when it was the good old Pogo cafe, way before veganism became trendy. If memory serves correctly it used to be run by volounteers. Can not say that it has changed a lot. Overall a very good place to go but the reason for the 4 stars is that the service can a bit a bit hit and miss. Still worthy of a visit.
L. C.
Excellent vegan food. Fab salad bowl. Inexpensive sorbets. All good.
K. G.
The most delicious milkshake! Plenty of places to both sit in and wait for food, friendly service and a lot of food choices. Will be back!
J. O.
Easily the best vegan place in London. Amazing people, ethical and sustainable business model and the food will simply blow your mind!
K. A.
Great food, loved the breakfast special and cozy atmosphere
G. W.
Great value for money! The food is consistently delicious (if sometimes a bit salty) and the changing menus makes every visit exciting. The staff are always very friendly.
I love coming here, and feel glad to support a co-operative that are committed to offering great vegan food.
S. D.
Best vegan neighbourhood cafe. Staff are the best and food out of this world 😍😍
A. K.
Nice atmosphere, friendly staff with awareness to issues of food sensitivities. 100% solid vegan food
R. D.
Amazing food and amazing staff! Highly recommended.
A.
Great vegan food!! I often bike there from Walthamstow to have lunch in a nearby park. You should do the same! You can choose an other mode of transport if you don't like biking though. Point is you need to go there!
L. F.
Great atmosphere, very good quality food and big portion sizes! Highly recommended!!!
b.
Excellent cafe. Lovely atmosphere. Ridiculously generous portion sizes.
Love what these guys stand for and what they're doing. Food has always been great here, the menu ranges from healthier options to veganised fast food. Really reasonably priced and always feel like they've got their priorities right.
D. L.
Amazingly beautifully prepared and presented dishes. Bright and colorful. Tasty, healthy. Really big portions.
Excellent
S. &. F.
Love everything about this cafe. Amazing food and amazing people.
B. G.
What a great place! Some of the yummiest food I've had in a while - and I'm not even a vegan - using original ingredients and flavours. I love the place, too, very relaxed & welcoming atmosphere. Staff is super friendly. Can't wait to be able to hang out here again!
g. b.
Probably the best vegan cafe in London, flavoursome food and massive portions, I love the black cat cafe
J. K.
The food is always so good! Love going here. Also a lovely atmosphere and kind, welcoming staff.
N. T.
Fabulous vegan food with good sized portions. Great coffee ☕ too.
G. D.
Fantastic. Airey atmosphere, engaging staff. Lovely friendly staff. Yummy vegan fare. And a workers co-op to boot ✊
M. W.
Hello, l have been to the Black Cat cafe three times now, and l certainly look forward to going again. The prices are so reasonable for the quantity and quality of the food. I always leave feeling happy and contently full!
The food is delicious, and a good selection to choose from.
Being able to bring your own alcohol, also makes this an affordable cafe to regularly eat at. 😊
J. M.
Nice little vegan cafe with a communal feel. Staff were nice and the environment and seating feel spacious and welcoming. The vegan burger was nice, although it didn't really blow me away. The milkshake however was amazing and I'd go back just for that! Prices seemed a bit on the steep side.
K. P.
This is the spot to go if you want a filling Vegan meal as the portion sizes here are great. The menu changes quiet a lot I've ordered and been amazed on days and on the odd occasion it hasn't been the best. The cakes and sides they stock are great and the salad is filling. Overall I would say it's one of the best Vegan places in London.
M. O.
One of my favourite cafes in London! Love the food, atmosphere and service. Perfect for a vegan lunch or light dinner. Portions are generous, but everything is so well balanced, you won't end up feeling stuffed.
S. D.
Went here for lunch yesterday. Wednesday afternoon and it was a bit packed but we found a table and ordered a main course plus side salad. Having been a vegan for several years, then relapsed, i must say that this restaurant/cafe revived my love and respect for top quality vegan food. Unusual for me, I was throughoughly full up after the main course and a share of the salad. Superb tastey and at £26 all in including two delicious flat white coffees - highly recommend this place for vegans and non-vegans alike
C. K.
Absolutely love this vegan restaurant the food never fails to please me 👌🏼
A. G.
Great food and a great atmosphere.
A superb huge window opens the place to the outside which is fantastic on a hot Sunny day.
Lots of reading material, posters and fliers on animal and humans rights based issues.
Go for breakfast and get some tea and cake.
M. M.
Very nice vegan food
J. G.
This place is pure awesomeness and a vegan haven. The food tastes incredible, the prices are really reasonable and there are lots of diverse options on the menu. Extra shout out to the cakes, which are amazing. That said, the staff wasn't always super responsive and I did eat a chocolate muffin which was a pretty big disappointment. But all in all, I 100% recommend it!
C. C.
I went with my girlfriend for my birthday and had a brilliant time. The atmosphere was relaxed and the staff were friendly. I had a burger and my girlfriend had the tofu fish and chips, both were delicious. I'm definitely going to come back. It would be a great place to pop in for a coffee or something delicious to eat for a good price. If you're vegan I would say you have to try it, if you're not I would still say the same.
L. J.
It's not that this place has flavorful vegan food, it's that this place has some of the most flavorful food I've ever had, in general. I got the tofu scramble and can't think of a better breakfast I've had in recent history. I wish I could go back and try everything on their menu! Their Americano also kicked my butt. I tried a bit of the tuna (chickpea) sandwich, and that was so delicious and comforting. This place is great.
I.
Honestly; the service, the atmosphere and the overall feeling of this place is so chill. Perfect for working or eating with some people. I love the food at this place and the artwork is so nice to look at! The fact that it's a vegan place is just a bonus for me :)
m. l.
Lovely vegan restaurant where you can bring your own wine. Generous portions served by very friendly people. Prices are good for the quality. I would certainly recommend going to this small gem and explore its frequently changing menu with fresh produce. Go
P. R.
Favourite food spot in London. Highly recommend
C. B.
Ok, so I'm not vegan or vegetarian so the whole menu was mine! I actually went once in early April for the first time and then enjoyed it so much I went again with more friends.
Both were evening visits and it was busy but not crowded. A lively atmosphere. I had an amazing soup, the burger and sweet potato fries on my second visit. The burger came with a delicious fresh salad. Generous portions. On my first visit I also had a "milk shake" smoothie!
Super friendly service on both occasions. There's no alcohol served, so don't forget to bring your own wine or beer.
My 2 negative points are it'd be better if there were menus on tables rather than the blackboard near the counter and it was really hot on my second visit. But with Summer approaching, I'm sure the front doors will be open to allow some cool air in.
I can't wait for my next visit!
F. S.
Such a good vegan milkshake, tasted exactly like dairy. The place was fun and reasonably priced, although a bit cold when I was there. Thought it would be a good place to come with friends or on your own.
k.
I like the place, it's got a storng punk slash cat theme and service is friendly and run by voulenteers.
The concept is really great as is some of the food. They have an immediate refund policy if you don't like anything.
The food selection is limited but what is there is great. Unfortunately on our visit someone oversalted the soup but they were happy to water it down and refund the money despite my protest.
I had money then to give to one of the many vegan/animal rights causes that the cafe promotes.
If the food was a bit tastier this would be 5 stars but 4 stars here is for the concept and because I want this cafe to survive, actually I'd like it to thrive, we need places like this and this one is so close to achieving that being very different and boutique.
I like it, its so out the way that its worth a visit.
A. S.
I love Black Cat. Great food, not bad prices, friendly staff, and they host a pickup point for Growing Communities' veg bag scheme. All vegan, and nice hearty varied menu. Great breakfasts, chips, salads, amazing soups. Always a great mix of people in there. Occasionally I think "hmmm, that dish could've been a bit better...." but on the whole I can't fault them. Great takeaway samosas too.
A. C.
Food was really nice! Meatball sandwich was a real guilty pleasure! It is fairly priced and staff is friendly. My only criticism would be to use less salt for fry up but some people may like it salty so It is a personal preference I guess.
V. P.
For the price this is brilliant value for money and food is always super tasty. I’m not vegan (and in fact eat meat) but this place is always a delight to eat at.
M. M.
We went there on the friend's recommendation. We were skeptical because we associated vegan breakfast with tasteless scrambled tofu. But black cat cafe is delicious! Excellent quesadilla, delicious avocado toast. Black coffee could be better.
M. M.
Casual, welcoming cafe serving delicious hot and cold vegan dishes - I was here for dinner and loved the chickpea and aubergine stew in a tomato sauce together with a selection of leafy and other (e.g. potato, pasta) salads. The sourdough bread is excellent! I'll be back
M. M.
The food was delicious, my partner was very happy with his falafel salad, and he eats a lot of falafel. I had a cake, which tasted a bit like my vegan choc cake recipe so i wasn't totally blown out by it. Its great that they stock vegan choc and Other black cat merchandise here too... i intend to return to have a proper look at the book stall. the staff were very efficient. Felt like too many tables in a small space, very crowded with people round the front counter.
A. S.
I absolutely LOVE this place. amazing meals for both the health conscious and those who are looking for a binge. The portions are massive (compared to other vegan food places). I went with a few friends and managed to taste most of the menu and it was all Delicious
F. S.
Absolutely love this place! Amazing food, service and atmosphere.
F. W.
One of my favourite places to eat in London (I'm not vegan). Reasonably priced & tasty meals, a good variety of options on a changing menu, decent sized portions, fresh ingredients. Good cola floats too. Tables a little bit too close together so it can be hard to move around between entrance/till/toilet, and hard to see the menu! Also could really do with a baby-changing area.
M. S.
Vegan café with amazing food. Had a gf pancake dish and portions were big, tasty and worth my money. Big windows to get plenty of daylight and cool recycled decor and showcase of art.
R. M.
There are no words.
Actually there are, many of them adjectives, all of them positive.
Just pretend I'd written some elegant and poetic praise of this place.
I can't recommend it enough for anyone. Take your non-veggie friends there.
The milkshakes are the best I've ever had anywhere regardless of what they've made from. (Go for chocolate and blueberry!)
The burgers and other mains are intensely satiating.
Any meal, any mood, any time of day, it'll leave you grinning. :D
A. F.
Really really good food and a lot for the price. Can't wait to go back
M. G.
This cafe has a wonderfully inclusive and relaxed atmosphere and amazing vegan food which is incredibly well priced. The food is delicious and homemade and a hit for non-vegans and vegans alike! They also have the best cinnamon buns this side of the Atlantic. It's my favourite cafe in Hackney!
M. C.
The fry up was delicious and very filling! As an omnivore I was really impressed with the food as it was so tasty.
Great vibe in the place and good service
My only constructive feedback is to improve the toilet facilities - they are a bit knackered.
N. W.
Lovely 100% vegan food!
Great value!
Friendly staff!
Nice atmosphere!
What else could you wish for?! Am glad that café's on my way to work and back. I'll be for sure popping in frequently!
R. N.
Good portion sizes, I ordered the chickpea vegetable curry which I thought was average. The mint yoghurt they serve in the middle of it I don't think goes well with the flavours but other than that it was okay.
The orange juice tasted like it was squeezed from a fresh orange however it tasted like it was from a batch of bland tasting oranges and I prefer mine a bit sour and sweet.
Staff were great and the food came pretty quick which was surprising.
All in all it was a good experience and I would go back.
Z. S.
Amazing food, friendly staff, great prices, wonderful ethics!
A. F.
I'm giving this cafe 5 stars. Very relaxing atmosphere, friendly staff. The food is fresh and tasty. I've taken a few friends to eat here and they are non vegans. The food they serve you are generous portions and the prices are reasonable. It's just a shame there are few vegan places around. There's another vegan place in Hackney. Might have to move there..... lol!!
E. W.
Just great big and tasty vegan food. Fab breakfasts, and counter top nibbles such as sausage rolls sell out quickly for a reason. Try the raspberry milkshake!
And get a salad bowl on the side of anything you order. So nice to not just have a bit of lettuce and a tomato. Pulses, seeds, potatoes, coleslaw...yum!
A. S.
Delicious food cooked by a really talented chef. I had tempura cauliflower that blew my mind and some rocky road that was also sublime.
The service is very good too, and the relaxed atmosphere is perfect for reading, working, or meeting a friend.
J. V.
This place is the best Vegan Cafe I know of in London! amazing staff, amazing affordable food! good portions are given for a great price!
apart from 100% delicious vegan meals they also do great cakes, refreshments, and Vego bars and other snacks.
Definitely a must go to in Hackney! even my non vegan friends love the food here!
also on the plus side, just out side there windows there is a bike rack where you can lock up your bicycles and still see your bicycle from the inside!
must say a big thanks to all the people that work there and always make me feel very welcome, and I'm glad to be a regular :)
I recommend this cafe to everyone!
R. S.
I met a friend at the cafe for lunch, the large front window letting in the Winter sun gave the impression that we were sitting somewhere on the continent rather than looking over Hackney's Pembury estate ;)
My almond burger in brown bun was tasty and came with lovely brown chips (just how my mother used to make them), and a side salad with sprouts. Great food and at a good price, and friendly relaxed service.
They have a good range of books for sale too. I like the fact they are a co-op and operate a fair price policy.
I could have spent all day in here, but I had to come back to work :(
D. C.
I’ve been there on Sunday at 6:00pm and I was so curious about the burger but last one sold before I ordered , so be aware and don’t be too late on Sundays :)) my friend ordered lasania and I ordered sandwich. Both were surprisingly delicious. I recommend.

Yummiest place to eat delicious vegan food and it's a great value
M. Š.
I know I should love this place from principle and also because lot of friends adore this place. However, I am usually unlucky with my choice of food and I end up feeling disappointed and not satisfied. Generally, salads and soups are good, but sandwiches quality varies. Also, I really struggle with the fact that I always smell of fried food afterwards.
S. P.
Perfect for a vegan meal. Big portion sizes, you will not leave hungry after ordering a main. Delicious food and creamy tasting milkshakes.
R. B.
Super tasty vegan menu, friendly staff, good drinks and cakes. What is not to love? The sausage rolls are fab but dont miss the weekend fry up, that is where it's at.
J. M. P.
definitely a cafe vibe tucked away in a corner of a residential street, the food is very tasty and fairly priced.
BYOB with no corkage makes it a very cool options for an early Healthy dinner with friends (albeit an early one, the day I went they were closing at 8pm)
Tried the beef style burger, which was extremely tasty. The chickpea curry was pretty good too.
F. B.
True punk ethos and aesthetic meets quaint and homely. Without being exclusive. Refreshing. Also the food is cheap and excellent. The staff are always very accommodating too, thank you.
N. K.
My favourite place to go to for a quick coffee, breakfast, lunch, dinner and inbetween those, too. Fantastic food, staff and vibes. Love this place and wish I could go there every day.
Everything I have tried so far was heavenly delicious (big portions btw-yay!), great vegan spot in Hackney.
T. R.
It's not too big, but very quite place. When I visited it for a first time, I was really impressed by the shirts on the walls - really good idea. It is very important to me to listen a good music, when I drink my coffee, so I go there almost every day. I also have to mention their collection of books - sometimes I find nice ones.
N. J.
Just back from my first visit and I can tell you there’ll be many more. Really good food, friendly service and a good atmosphere.
J. H.
Probably my fave place in London. Food is incredible and the portion sizes are perfect
H. G.
Great food and great atmosphere. Staff very friendly and makes you feel very welcome. Menue is diverse and interesting. Pricing is very reasonable as well. We will be back for more as we really enjoyed ourselves. 😉
A. K.
They're food is amazing and100% vegan! You can taste that they source their fruit and veg from local sources.
Try the Healthy One or the Fry Up and have with the best plantmilkshakes 😍
J. P.
The vegan fry up is so good!
H. S.
Casual, cozy Bohemian styled eatery serving a range of tasty vegan and gluten free meals and desserts.
Staff make the environment very welcoming.
M. R.
This place is amazing!! I HIGHLY recommend. The staff are lovely and very kind and the whole vibe is just wonderful. The prices are VERY reasonable, the food and the portion sizes are incredible.
A. B.
Delicious, great value for money vegan food. Friendly, relaxed atmosphere. Stocks some hard-to-find vegan speciality foods like nut-cheeses which are really good.
R. T.
As a non vegan I was surprised by how tasty the food was. My milkshake was very good, Moroccan stew was a bit bland but their curry plate was very good. Friendly service too.
R. R.
Best vegan cafe in London. Amazing food and as a social enterprise they are doing something good for society. I have visited several times already and will certainly be returning!
A. L.
Lovely local vegan spot at the heart of the Hackney community. Serves delicious, hearty plant-based dishes - you don't wanna miss out.
C. T.
One of my favourite cafes in London - hippy, community vibe with huge mix of good food (rather than 'good vegan food'). Can get a bit crowded, but super friendly, cheap space. Really happy this place exists.
O. A.
I love this place so much. Food is top notch. Staff are so lovely and accomodating. I wish I lived really close, but probably a good thing I don't as I'd be a lot poorer... The Burger is amazing and the Curry with Onion Baji is a WINNER... Still loads of stuff I haven't tried...
Thanks Black Cat, for all your amazingness!! ❤️
V. B.
Tasty, well priced and friendly. Well worth a visit if in the area. Only criticism I have is the use of not bacon and sausage substitute in a vegan place. The flavours and quality is good enough not to have to.
L. C.
The Black Cat Cafe, recently known as Pogo, is a light and airy vegan cafe with a kick. The staff are friendly and understanding and the kitchen will cater to your needs - just ask! With a counter full of delicious cakes and treats, daily specials and the much enamored fry up at the weekend, you're sure to find something to suit your stomach. There's also a great selection of vegan foods and a stocked up bookshelf if you feel like treating yourself.
J. D.
Last time I ate properly there I had the most delicious paprika potato wedges with a yummy garlicky dip. And the time before enjoyed the delights of a raw cauliflower salad which was, believe me, incredibly tasty!! and they did something with mushrooms which was a revelation.
And I always look forward to seeing what cakes they have, vegan cakes are wicked :).
I am not personally a vegan (not even close blushes the meat-eater) but I love Pogo's and I wish everyone realised what a great place it is!! It's run by volunteers, it's a community centre, they have a fascinating community noticeboard with all sorts of events advertised. Yes it's alternative and yes it's politically anti-establishment but to my mind THAT'S A GOOD THING. We have enough Starbucks and Subways to be going on with, go to Pogo's for fabulous healthy food that won't cost you a lot.
They also have a loyalty scheme by the way so if you go and you like it, keep going back, one day you'll get a free drink and slice of cake :).
S. S.
A really nice place to hang out. You can read interesting books, play board games or use the WLAN (all free). The service depends on the staff: as pogo Café is run by volunteers you can have extraordinary service or just a good standard service. The food is delicious (but the degree of deliciousness depends on the staff of the day as well). Burgers are terrific (take the meal - the chips and salad are wonderful). If it's one of the pizza-days, grab one of those. The breakfast, which comes in a hearty devil and an angel-variety. The latter is rather sweet Indian-style. I liked the devil better. You can also get cake or things like vegan samosas or veggie-sausages rolls. Apart from all that you can buy vegan cheese or "club mate".
J.
This place is mind blowing. Id into good food you'll love it - if you're a vegan you'll worship it. Amazing cooking at amazing prices, super friendly staff and a lovely atmosphere!!!!
F.
This is the best vegan place I ve ever been too. The food taste like it s cooked with love! My new favorite place ! A must go !
I. M. D.
My favourite vegan cafe in town. Great, freshly made food. I loved the salads and raspberry ice-cream.
j. P.
Execellent place. Decent prices for good food and nice atmosphere. Staff is friendly. Good meal portions. They know what is about. One can communicate with others while eating. This is important as one should be relax when eating. Variety in the menu.Highly recomended.

Wonderful cafe. Great atmosphere, tasty food and friendly staff.
S. C. B.
One of my favourite places in East London! Delicious Plant Based foods, huge portions, great variety and reasonably priced. Mine and the Mr's favourite spot on a Saturday afternoon!!
T. W.
It´s almost a year ago I was there. It was a super delicious breakfast. Had a scrambled Tofu Toast and a pain au chocolat - both great! I´m happy to be there again next week :-)!
R. B.
Nipped down to check out this cafe last weekend and had a lovely time. Very cheap, very good food. Whoever served me was very friendly, and the cafe has a nice atmosphere. Lots of interesting books for sale, and boardgames for anyone to play.
F. A.
Black Cat is certainly not a bad place, by any means, but, much like many of the other vegan institutes of London, it is not excellent either. The food is home style, fairly uninspired but well priced for what you receive. Very pleasant in the Summer months due to having street facing windows that open fully, allowing you to enjoy inside comforts whilst feeling the energy of the outer world.
M. B. S.
Finally a vegan place that is well priced with good portion sizes. Had the veg pancake which is really an omlet with cream cheese topping. Would be dry without the cream cheese so worked out well.
R. A.
Hidden away on a quiet road. Friendly atmosphere, great service and food. Will be coming back regularly. A real gem of clapton, only wish I had discovered it sooner.
A.
Great place to get some vegan food. Staff is very friendly. You can even bring your own drinks.
D. P.
Great Vegan food - well, just great food if you ignore much of the 'fake meat' items - they have plenty of just natural cooking with vegetables too, which are the best and huge portions.
R. N.
Super nice food, service was great. Overall lovely vegan café.
M. M.
Nice little cafe, quite busy but still space for me and my friend. Prompt, friendly service and great food - had a chocolate milkshake and broccoli soup. Would definitely return.
N. P.
Wonderful food wonderful service and atmosphere. Community asset so friendly

Staff members are fairly friendly - but certainly worth visiting for its top quality vegan food, well priced... probably the best vegan burger I’ve had in London.
S. D.
I was so glad I decided on this place. The food was delicious and very comforting. I ordered the Lentils Lasagne and the cheese tasted like real cheese! Friendly staff and lovely ambience. I will definitely be visiting this place again. Thank you! :)

Delicious and fresh food, a must visit for veggies and vegans.... Can feel a bit pricey at times however portion sizes are generous so that takes the sting out of it!
B. G.
Great place to get a big vegan breakfast, especially if hungover. So happy to see a growing vegan community and Black Cat offers the perfect hub for vegans to feel welcomed and part of a community.

Might become vegan after eating here, the menu is amazing! Little loud when very busy you’ll struggle to hear conversation, has bad acoustics!
B. C.

4 because we only tried the coffee and not the food, so hard to tell about more than that. The coffee was amazing and the place has a great vibe. If I lived closer, I'd definitely come back.
M. P.
Love the food, the portions are enough to make you feel fed and happy. Great value for the price. Recommended
M. D. L.
Amazing! Just plain amazing! Every vegan should check this place out. The Milkshakes are amazing and the food is too!
M. B.
You don't need to be vegan or veggy to love it. I always seem to order the chickpea curry though because if I see someone else with it I get food envy.
J. B.
Really great atmosphere, pretty hard to lose with the food - sometimes price and portion could be a little a smaller. Nice place to go during weekdays to work and drink coffee.
I. R. R.
In my opinion, the best vegan restaurant in London by far: amazing food (the burger is incredible), very cheap for London standards and the portions are massive, nice chilled atmosphere, and it is zero pretentious which I love in a vegan place
C. J.
Hackney's original vegan cafe now all done out but still serving excellent food. Definitely worth the detour to try it out.

B. A.
Fav vegan place ever! Affordably priced and also the vegan milkshakes are life changing
A. H.
Nice place, great foood, had some really mouthwateringly good dishes here with(tasty)salads, not sampled their deesertz yet as I am too evil & do not deserve such pleasures, nice little community atmosphere & regularly busy, they are doggy friendly & it is always amusing when a doggy squabble arrises, take note the location is on the fringe of a slightly dodge estate so don't go flashing yo cash or expect high levels of attention...
P. C.
Good for vegans or if you're trying to become one. Huge portions of food, which is a shame because there's a lot of waste.
S. R.
