Reviews of Brockley's Rock
H.
Love this place, get their fish and chips quite regularly from here. They have gluten free and vegan options too, as well as homemade tartare sauce. Such delicious crunchy batter...
R. 1.
Good fish and chips but I don't like the fact that they still have closed the eat in section since the start of covid. There are currently no government restrictions and most other restaurants and take aways are back to normal and have full dining in facilities available. So why are they still remaining closed for there dine in. Some customers would like to eat in as the eat in menu and option was very good. Quite disappointing to be honest and not a proper service quite frankly.
P. G.
This must be one of the best looking fish n chip shops in the country. Ordered a fried cod and it was freshly fried after receipt of the order. It was well worth the wait of 10 minutes.
S. &. J.
Well, we really enjoyed this. Vegan saveloy got a thumbs up, teriyaki salmon was great - slightly overdone but absolutely delicious and came with really generous tasty salad. We ordered delivery and I thought the chips wouldn't travel well but they were incredibly addictive and I ate way more than advisable.
C. L.
This place is basically faultless. Their veggie options are fantastic, chip shop chips are excellent, and they make their own tartar sauce (needs more gherkins though!) Staff are kind and attentive and realistic about wait times.
Perfect to grab and eat on Hilly Fields.
D. H.
Having used the Brockley Rock since they opened and have always found their fish n chips top notch. Had the cod and chips tonight and the quality was amazing….probably the best I have EVER had. I can’t show a pic of my meal because it has gone yum!!
M. T.
Good chips, fish was very hard. Smaller portions does not fill you up and the recent price hike has made it too expensive for me. The staff at counter can be a bit childish on rare occasions. All the best for the future.
T. C.
Brockley’s Rock is definitely our favourite fish and chip shop in London. Delivery is always super easy and quick and the times we’ve had any kind of issue, they’ve always sorted really quickly over the phone.
I usually get the vegan fish steaks (one is enough if you’re getting chips!) and my partner really rates the normal fish too.
Would definitely recommend :)
S. S. (.
Experienced their fish and chips, scampi, battered sausage and mushy peas. I will never go anywhere else. Absolutely delicious!!!
I. C.
Really happy with our vegan 'fish' and chips, vegan battered sausage and regular sausage. The chips were excellent. Maybe the 'fish' had the right texture but missed a tiny but more flavour, all in all would order again!
(Boxes are compostable)
N. R.
Good taste but very less quantity of chips even though I paid for two regular packet of chips with two cods. The cods had not been fully cooked. My son did not take a bite. Village fish and chips at shortlands is so much better
A. J.
On the whole i enjoyed mine however my partners fish was over cooked and mushy. Equally the mushy peas were more like soup. Disappointed as there is always such a big queue outside you just assume it's becuase they're good. Apparently not the best
J. C.
Best tofish/vegan options I've found. Such a great book shop next door to look in while your less booky friend waits for the food.
T. M.
Heard a lot about that place. How many fish’n chips shops claim to be the best in UK or London ? Either from owner or customers, but the question might be as important that “be or not to be ?”
Well I can’t tell if it’s actually the best but it’s definitely one of them !
Received warm welcome from the person behind the counter. It was efficient
Wait for few minutes and grab my order as I was called by the window.
Found large portion of both fish and chips. With crispy batter not too oily and very moist fish. Tartare sauce is homemade and highly recommended to add !
The whitebait were also perfectly made and good size to share as starter.
To conclude, really enjoyed the fish’n chips ! Well done !
Wouldn’t recommend enough and if the weather is good why not enjoy it in the park next to the shop ?
R. L.
[Delivery] Really great place, high quality ingredients and you can tell they know how to cook different types of fish well. The salmon and sweet potato fish cake was amazing, sad to see it's not a permanent item, would have given 5 stars if it was.
A. M.
Very delicious! Dining in we selected the seafood platter for 2 and fish (cod) & chips, both meals were great! The calamari and prawns were the highlight on he platter, fish cake was full of flavour, scampi were nice and the whitebait were a little to fishy for me but that what it is... the cod was amazing it was fat piece of fish, flakey and had a very nice and light batter - will eat eat again! Next time I’ll op for takeaway as it is slightly less expensive but dining in was great and lovely staff
D. T.
This is by far the best cod and chips I’ve ever had. The oil to batter to cod ratio is ludicrously ridiculous. This has left me tongue tied, and I would like to thank the chefs! Really brilliant.
B. P.
Chips are unrivalled. Fish less so. Haddock is hit and miss. Curry sauce is decent. Friendly service. Try to avoid Friday evening chaos.
J. H.
Great fish and chips with generous portions. Very good vegan options too.
V. A.
I really like this place! Thanks for the good service and attentive staff! The food is delicious and the prices are good.
A. S. I.
I ordered standard cod & chips takeaway. It was great! Delicious fresh piece of cod, big generous size and batter crispy and great. Chips standard and yummy.
J. S.
I've lost count of the number of times we've ordered take out from here. We get the vegan fish steak and vegan battered sausage with loads of chips every time, and it never ever ever disappoints. Chips are those perfect f&c shop chips, and the vegan stuff is amazing. Also the curry sauce is perfect. Can't recommend enough.
B. D.
This is the best fish and chips I’ve ever had in london and always super speedy service! Their chips are THE BEST!
H. J. S.
Best fish and chips I’ve had to be honest. If you’re from the Brockley area or Lewisham then Brockley Rock is a must!
R. B.
The best chip shop that I have been to in south-east London. The food here is always fresh and never disappoints!
G. B.
My wife ordered a portion of regular chips and there were plenty for herself and my mum to share. They always enjoy the food from here.
B. J.
Since finding this treasure, I cannot buy chips from any other place in London! It's the best and a must.
S. S.
One of my favourite fish & chips places. You know a takeaway place is nice when you moved from the area ages ago, and you still order from them! Try their Thai fishcakes, so well seasoned and tasty! I also love their haddock, and their chips are so good. They have a range of vegan options too, the battered vegan sausage is great.
C. S.
Local to me used for a good 5 years best fish and chips in London
S. S.
Proper fish and chips shop. Fresh tasty fish and well done chips 🍟
S. D.
Excellent chippy! The fish is always meaty, fresh and perfectly fried. The batter is light and crisp and though the fish is served on top of the chips, they're never soaked in fat. The whole package is just so tasty. Great mushy peas too. If I could change one thing it would be to add gravy to the menu! It's the only thing that's missing!
G. B.
Definitely the best fish and chips I've ever had. Moved close by a few months back and have always seen a queue outside so wanted to check it out. Finally put in an order last night and was honestly blown away by how good it was. Good portion sizes, very reasonably priced. Top, top quality.
I. M.
Luvly nosh but 2.50 for mushy peas is too much. Have gone back to buying them for 25p a tin
C. T.
Chips are great. Though you pay bougie gentrified London prices for them! The veggie / vegan stuff is OK but it's not exactly on par with their fishy stuff and having tried it all I now opt out and just get chips (caveat: haven't tried the halloumi salad). Having said that it's nice to find a chippy that caters for non fish eaters. My fish eating friends say the calamari is some of the best they've eaten anywhere in the world so it must be pretty darn good.
S. A.
My local fish and chips but also my favourite in London. I love the vegan fish steak and vegan fish fingers. Your chips are amazing!!
G. H.
Incredible Vegan options, can't recommend enough. I just wish I lived closer
M. F.
Very nice the batter is light and the flavour and texture of the fish is really tasty.
They do a special tartar sauce which is made in-house which is amazing.
We didn't eat in because of covid but from what I saw of the inside it looked quite comfortable and the décor was well planned
Will be visiting again.
E. I.
Best fish and chips for a loooong while!
Cod is cod, batter is very light, and chips are from real potatoes. It's like we're back in the good old days!
Quite far from where I live, but I will make the effort.
You may have to wait, but you know the say about good things.
It's not cheap as chips, but it's worth it.
R. B.
Beautiful fish and chips, all in a fancy take away bag. The best chippy in london full stop. Just what I needed after a six hour journey from Birmingham:0)
A. K.
Delicious mackerel burger, crispy whole fish with a very generous salad portion in a soft bun and combined with the best chunky crispy chips! The shop was extremely busy but the waiting time was very reasonable. The stuff was very helpful, efficient and polite.
E. E.
I am speechless, I am never speechless! Before, Sutton and Sons were my number 1 fish and chips shop in London but I am surprised to say they have been matched, if not beaten. I have not had fish and chips this good since I was in Edinburgh! If Brockley's Rock start making fried Sea bass, I might move in!
And the Staff/service is amazing - warm and friendly.
P. P.
No difference in the food quality although delivered a little distance. Food was nice was tasty, hot, not too greasy and a very good portion size. I called before ordering to clarify something the lady I spoke to was very nice. I will definitely be spreading the word.
D. H.
Consistently reliable fish and chips. There is always a queue but well worth the wait.
M. T.
Best fish & chip shop in London. Properly fresh fish, great chips, lovely service
E. S.
Wow! Best fish and chips in London. Worth the wait.
J. G.
Good fish and chips, although slightly inconsistent. A few weeks ago tasted a little of batter due to being under cooked, but in the top 3 chippys in south east London. 8 out of 10
J. S.
Always get my fish and chips here. This time fish was great but chips were definitely not freshly cooked so could not eat them
V. H.
Best fish and chips in London! As a northerner in London, I rate this chippy very highly. The mushy peas are homemade, and their own recipe tartare sauce is the best I've ever tasted! All the packaging is recyclable too.
S. L.
Really nice fresh battered cod and great chips. Gravy was tasty, really pleased my family have found a decent chippy.
S. R.
Fish cakes to die for ,voted best chipy two years running and they have become a great addiction to the local community
G. G.
For some reason it has taken us 7 years of living in Brockley to try Brockley's Rock and we are kicking ourselves for not having eaten here sooner! Absolutely fantastic. Crispy light batter on the haddock, proper chips and extremely mushy peas. We have eaten a lot of fish and chips up North but Brockley's Rock is the only rival to the Northern chip shops we have had in London. Will be back soon!
D. S.
One of the Best fish and chips in South London, If you don't believe me go there on a Friday evening and see the queue.
p.
Best chips I've had in a long time. Big fan of the vegan fish steaks. Highly recommended
k. s. k.
Best place for vegan chips and fish and many other options, love this place .
Only one bad thing is they speak foreign language infront of the customers I found that rude
D. C.
Very friendly and food very good
Best place in Brockley
D. S.
Very good. Fish batter wasn't too oily and chips were cooked well. Recommended
S. S.
Wow! The grilled fish was amazing, moist, fresh and flavoursome. Staff were extremely pleasant considering how busy they are and food was piping hot and the chips were just delicious!!!
N. L.
Fish and chips was good but the boss needs to trained his fryings how fry the fish has it should be.
L. P.
Great fish & chips shop, with decent prices, large portions and it never lets us down.
L. K.
Incredible vegan "fish" the batter is crisp and perfectly cooked and the chips were top tier.
K. o. f.
Fish n chips supper no longer a cheap option.
Brockley Rock to be fair is a little pricey but serves lovely food
I often buy the calamari which is wonderful.
A. D.
Nipped in for a sit down lunch as i was starving. I went for the calamri and chips. Really good batter on the calamari and the chilli and ginger dipping sauce hit thr spot on a cold day lol.
t. l.
Best fish and chips I’ve ever had. I can’t believe I have only just discovered this place! 10/10 recommend.
M. D.
The fish and chips are great here. The fish itself is good quality and fried properly so it is tender and maintains flavour. The portion size is huge even for regular! This place gets busy so expect to wait for around 15 mins or so at peak times.
J. C.
Great fish and chips and very popular in the area. Mother in law is vegan and also said their meat alternatives were very tasty. Only negative is the wait at peak times (Friday and Saturday night). I try to call ahead to order but often the phone is not picked up and if you take a chance you could be waiting a good 20-30minutes (for collection)
S. L.
I ordered haddock and chips. The fish was cooked to perfection. However, my chips were cold. so I have given four stars.
S. S.
Best vegan and battered sausage and chips, ever. Whenever I'm in London it's the first thing I want to eat from here. So good.
K. R.
I telephone ordered my fish & chips and upon visiting Brickleys Rock found the staff friendly, helpful abd accurate in completing my order, via phone to their IT system and double checking at arrival recorded on paper.fish and chips cooked freshly, chips tasty, fish enjoyable and tastes as described on the online menu.Great qaulity and staff team.
R. R.
Best fish and chips in London. But the ordering process leaves much to be desired. On a busy Friday night, I was quoted 25 mins wait for a single portion of chips - the same amount of time as the person in front who ordered 4 portions of cod and chips. I get that it's all freshly cooked (don't know why they have anything in the warmer cabinet that being the case) but they can do a better job of prioritising orders. Shame because the food is great.
e. p.
I'm a regular customer here and that's the best fish and chips shop in London! !!!!! Super well done! The shop is clean and the team friendly. Money well spent! I really love the opportunity to go trough the fish's hystory and potatoes pick up! Interesting and informative
K. S.
Brockleys rock has never let me down! Perfect Chippies, nice light batter on tasty fish. V reasonably priced. Get in my belly!!!
K. M.
Best quality fish 'n' chips (gluten free) and lightly battered calamari with their special home made sweet chilli & ginger sauce/dip. Best and generous portions and best friendly service and on the whole a very clean shop. Good to take away or eat in. 😋
W. B.
Easily the best fish and chips around. Always fresh, clean oil, and the best ingredients. The core fish and chip dishes are outstanding. The calamari was delightful. The scampi was forgettable, likewise the king prawns that seem miserly at the price. The staff are in good humour amongst themselves - less so with the customers but in that heat, especially in the summer this can be forgiven.
Some more exciting specials would be great. Soft shell crab, or a guest battered fish. Something to tickle the taste buds. Even fried samphire or sea weed. If it had more exciting food I would go more often.
T.
Very friendly, service great. Food outstanding. In fact I have NEVER tasted fish and chips so fresh outside of a 5star restaurant. It tastes so good as if each item was cooked in its own freshly poured oil. No mingled taste. And great selection of beverages. Ideal for families and individuals
P. H.
Excellent and award winning fish n chip shop with capability to eat in as well as take away. The mushy peas have a hint of mint, which is nice. The portions are not huge (as is becoming the norm) but perfectly sized with the fillets beautifully battered and firm & tender and delicious.
M. P.
Wow! As an original northerner I had lost faith in finding a good fish and chips down south until I came across your place today! Flaky fish, decent portions, just the right amount of salt & vinegar and a really tasty mushy peas! Only downside was a lack of gravy on the menu, but I can't expect everything!
Side note: For those of you who have also stumbled across this place during Covid-19, be prepared for a 20 minute continuous refresh game on the phone lines (felt like I was back in the Glastonbury ticket queue), followed by 30 mins wait for food! It is well worth it, but definitely ring the number and order before getting here! Watching 6 other people use their mobiles trying to get through at the same time was particularly painful!
L. c.
I love this fish and chip shop the fish and chips are fantastic service is good place nice and clean a lot of Choice the is really good and chips too just love it would definitely definitely recommend try people
R. B.
I've heard a lot about this place & while it was good & very tasty, I did expect a bit more. That's not their fault so I was very happy with their food choices & customer service. The 1 thing that sets it apart from other fish & chip shops is not their much vaunted chips, but their tartare sauce, which I can only assume is homemade!
It's also good that you can ask for any of the fish grilled rather than deep fried.
C. P.
The shop was very busy but the staff seemed to manage to deal with everyone's order just fine. The food was fresh cooked and lovely. I had the grilled salmon and shared a large chips with a friend. We could have ordered a small and still not finished it I think. I will definitely return for more.
R. O.
'Fish Friday' was made complete with a lovely supper of grilled hake with an Asian style salad.
I cheekily asked for a couple of chips, of which the girl's behind the till happily obliged.
Great customer service and vibe.
Q. N.
The best fish and chip shop ever. Every order is prepared fresh upon placing the order! The portion is enough for two people comfortably. Big cod and a lot of chips! Recommendation 100%.
R. H.
Best haddock & chips in years last night. Fresh succulent fish in tasty batter cooked to perfection. We asked for 'double dunked' chips to get golden crispy outside and soft fluffy inside - "certainly" was the reply! A fresh lemon quarter, mushy peas and homemade tartare sauce were most welcome...oh and peppercorn and sea salt mills. We brought our own wine and they provide glasses. Can not recommend enough!
C. P.
Best fish and chips in the area and amazing options for vegans - the vegan battered sausage is so good!!
f. w.
Probably the best fish and chips I've had! Portions are very big too!
D. M.
Just move into Brockley and thought I should pay them a visit and try my new local chippy. The fish was so succulent and the chips was perfect not to mention their tasty curry sauce! I will definitely be paying them a visit and recommend them to friends and family.
M. P.
Unbelievably good. Never expected to find this quality in London. And I grew up on fish & chips by the sea, so I know what I'm talking about. I'm seriously considering moving to Brockley... 5*
N. S.
Rightly awarded one of the best Fish and Chips nationally! Gets busy in the evenings but even then you dont have to wait long for take-away. Great work - keep it up.
M. N.
We had fish and chips last Friday they were lovely not greasy and you get your money's worth.
l. f.
I just moved to Brockley and i am so pleased to have such a great local chippy. Might be the best fish and chips I’ve ever had. haddock, chips, battered sausage, mushy peas and curry sauce all on point and delicious. Crispy and not too greasy!!!
D. M.
Best fish & chips + other seafood. It’s fresh fish every day and it doesn’t get better than that.
B. K.
A wonderful fish and chip, plus more, small restaurant. BYO is a bonus. Dishes are generous and delicious, good value and good customer service. Very busy at times, booking might be required, unless you don't mind waiting. Loved the whitebait..
J. L.
Should get 10 stars. Massive portions, perfectly crispy chips and fish and sausages are excellent too. Worth the wait when they’re busy
I. A.
Absolutely love it! Super fresh and delicious fish, lovely service and the best home made tartar sauce I've ever had.
N. N.
Just had cod, chips & mushy peas from there after walking past and not being able to resist. Brilliant - batter crispy, cod succulent, chips and mushy peas just right. Portion was massive, wasn't too pricey and the staff were really friendly. Best fish & chips I've had in London, I reckon.
S. D.
I have been coming here regularly for the past 4/5 years and is the only place "locally" that I buy fish and chips from. I live in Bromley and drive here especially as I can't help but compare other places that never meet the same standard I am used to from Brockley's rock. The home made tartar sauce is the delicious.
E. T.
Fantastically fresh fish and chips plus grilled specials such as hake and skate. My money's on the calamari with their delicious dipping sauce. Eat in for a superior experience and the crispest batter. Fab, fast and friendly service from Kyri and the team. Thanks for being there!
R. M.
I don't go to Brockley's Rock often, but I do go regularly. The food is tasty and they make a real effort to be the best they can be. Table service is always polite and fast, the menu is varied and the atmosphere good. I also like the fact that they source ingredients responsibly and sponsor local good causes like the Hilly Fields summer fair.
The big hairy "but" is that if I ran a chippy I'd just cook some items differently, with the biggest one being the chips. They use wonderful potatoes, and cook them to near perfection, but they just aren't brown enough for me; although the insides are soft I like a bit more crunch on the outsides. The batter for the whitebait is also too thick for me, but my youngest loves them.
I hope if they're reading this I don't cause offence or upset - it really is just a personal taste thing.
I secretly go to Fishy Business in preference for take-away, although Brockley's Rock do an excellent phone ahead ordering system which I recommend, as they are really busy in the evenings.
J. G. (.
We travel some way to eat here even though there are many alternative fish restaurants to choose from. Why do we take the trouble? Because the fish is the freshest ever and the fish and chips are always perfectly cooked. Add to that the efficiency and friendliness of the restaurant staff. It's always a great experience.(Helps too that we can bring our own wine!)
G. S.
I was told about this place by my son. I have been coming back here ever since. Great food and a great service. Good menu too, something for everyone. My favourite Fish & Chip shop.
t. c.
Wow, I am highly recommend of this restaurant.
Especially the fish and chips. You mist have a try and you wont forgot it.
It is hot, crispy but the inner cod fish is still soft and tender the fish oil is leaking along itself. The juicy fish with tasty crispy coat soak with a bit lemon juice.
Dint forget to have their chips too, they are fresh cut and in rod. Hot chips and tasty fiah can make ur days.
But I found their fish quality is the best in the morning compare with those made at night.
L. S.
A great fish and chip takeaway, but you can also book tables and sit in. Reservations are a good idea, it's busy. Good interesting specials other than the usual great cod and chips.
A. R.
Best fish and chips in SE London! Lovely staff and local owners. Fish is incredibly fresh and non-greasy. Really reasonable prices for eating in also
D. B.
Fish and chips were a huge part of my upbringing and since deciding to go plant based, it seemed like it was a tradition that I would never experience properly again. That was until I went to this place last night...
I local, village feel fish and chip shop that emphasises sustainability, quality & even does vegan options cooking their amazing chips in separate vats to the fish. We were blown away. Now, whenever we are craving fish and chips we know we can always get our fix here!
One criticism, they have gone to a lot of effort to offer a full vegan menu which is absolutely outstanding and very rare, however, their mushy peas & curry sauce (which are normally plant based items anyway) were not suitable for vegans. Having sides and condiments free of dairy would be the icing on an incredible cake.
We'll be back.
j. t.
Great place, extensive range and the option of grill fish is excellent. Also you have to try the homemade tartare sauce. I wish they did delivery but never stops us when we fancy it.
A. S.
Good as always, fish nice and fresh n crispy. Perfect chips and curry sauce 👍🏼
K. G.
Got a take away, order in advance, very friendly staff an the fish an chips was very tasty, best to order on phone an pick up,it gets very busy else ur standing in a que, 🥰
T. K.
simply amazing.. authentic. for beginners and professionals. for vegans and omnivores. cordially staff
M. B.
Best fish & chips in London. Excellent home-made fish cakes. Haddock was super fresh and amazingly flaky. Delicious home-made tartar sauce. 2nd time I've been, took my friends who were visiting from the Netherlands, they loved it! At the end of the meal we mis-read the bill and nearly overpaid by £20 - the owner immediately realised our mistake and called after us, returning the extra cash. Such a lovely bunch of people, we will certainly be back soon :)
V. R.
Really great chips, but the fish and curry sauce portion was a little on the small side. Saying that, the price is a bargain!
M. C.
Very good service. I haven't tasted chips like this since I was at school ( I'm a pensioner). I had the cod which was crispy outside and soft inside, very nice. This was my first visit to Brockley's Rock but it won't be my last.
G. R.
It was the first time that I had visited Brockley Rock today and I am not disappointed. My daughter enjoyed her battered sausage and My Cod was second to none accompanied with mushy peas and a lemon will definitely be going back!!
A. W.
Immense portions of tasty Fish and Chips. You can add salt, vinegar and ketchup to taste. They will even apply the salt and vinegar for you at no extra cost. Need I say any more?
T. B.
Up there with some of the best fish and chips I've ever eaten. Well worth going the long way round to go home if it means picking up some Brockley's Rock
S.
Tasty fish and decent chips. I might be being an idiot here, but I'd prefer my fish without skin on. That may be an option, who knows, so I'm not docking a star for it, as I know plenty of people prefer skin on!
F. M.
Fantastic fish and chips , I would recommend definitely 👍🏿
J. T.
Best fish and chips I've had in quite a while. I had the cod and chips with mushy peas and enjoyed it thoroughly. Great portions and great peas!
F. B.
Fantastic fish and chips, lots of vegan options which is a nice surprise. They also give you a hearty portion of chips which is kind of rare.
H. P.
A gastronomic fish bar. It has won awards and rightly so. Very busy on a Friday evening with the queue out to the roadside. Very popular, good quality and imaginative menu.
a. h.
Outstanding and worth waiting for your take away meal. Fish dishes are wonderful.
V. K.
I love the fact that fresh and delicious gluten-free food is served every Tuesday
D. M.
Always reliable, great tasting fish and chips. Staff is very friendly. You can call them up and order in advance so they have your order ready for when you arrive (I always use this for take away)
A. S.
DELICIOUS GLUTEN FREE TAKEAWAY! DO believe the hype, the GF batter lives up to its reputation: 10/10
G. T.
The best Fish & Chips in London. Very tender food in large quantities and cheap. The best fried cod I've ever tasted.
J. R.
Amazing food and service ! Been a local for over 20years & I’m 34 now and proud to have a great fish & chip shop in our area like this keep it up & don’t get annoyed with the rude customers it’s worth it for us good eggs in Brockley x love x
J. B.
Quite possibly the best fish and chips I've ever tasted, and I'm 45 years old. Absolutely delicious! Highly recommend!
A. W.
The best place for fish and chips in south east London by far. Additionally they do gluteen free fish and chips almost every day. Very friendly staff and awesome service
L. N.
Ok, I always get the same thing these days, which is their incredibly moorish calamari with chilly, honey and dill (we're still figuring it out) sauce and chips. Chips are full of flavour. Typically chunky and a mix of soft and crunchy. Delicious. I'm just grateful they do it properly, that all the fish is gotten fresh and it's cooked perfectly. Big love for Brockley's Rock.
B. A.
Got fish and chips with a saveloy. Was ok. Not cheap though, just shy of a tenner, and that's with the small chips (they do a large portion too). They said 10 minutes but I was served in 3 by their friendly staff. To be tried at least once if you're in the vicinity.
2.
Very nice fish and chips, chips are nice and fresh and fish actually taste of cod, they cook it fresh for you so usually it's a bit of a wait but it's worth it. A bit on the expensive side though
C. O.
Eat fish and chips here and you'll never go to your local again. I know, it happened to me. Brockley's Rock cook to order so you fish is fresh, batter is light and chips are massive. If you want an extra kick I recommend the Thai fish cake and if you are splashing out go for the Sea Bass.
Looks posh but the prices are great.
M. C.
Good menu choices, salmon teriyaki & prawns available & grilled hallumi! & much more.....Don't have to have your fish in batter (naughty but nice!). They will grill it for you, which was lush 🤗
S. K.
Brilliant! Very good variety of food; Calamri, Grilled sea bass, salmon and your classic Cod to name a few...
The best chips in London! literally, they won the official award. Fully deserved!
M. S.
Never quite got it. I went there once and the fish was inedible. Another time the chips weren't cooked through. There are cheaper and better fish and chip shops around. How does it keep winning awards?
D. G.
Best Fish & Chip shop around. Quality cooked delicious food, good portions and good prices. A must-try.
M. T.
This is my favourite Fish & Chips place!!
Big portions, affordable price, very tasty and nice staff! What else do you want? :)
L. Z.
Definitely the best Fish and Chips I ever ate, everything is fresh and the homemade fishcake is just wonderful. The staff is also very very nice.
D. G.
Great fish and chips with loads of chips! 👍 The grilled fish is delicious, as are the prawns and mushy peas. A top family favourite!
C. M.
I never give anything much 5 stars by BR, you'd be unfair to give them any less. Their fish and chips are truly. I was introduced some years back and keep on re-introducing to others and they've never failed to deliver.
E. W.
Fish was soggy but was actually cod, chips were tasty. Although food was edible it is expensive so I probably won't order again.
C. E.
Wonderful restaurant food always cooked fresh to your needs grilled or fried. Chips are proper chips thick hand cut. The staff are very friendly, efficient and always helpful.
J. N.
Best fish and chips and mushy peas I’ve had in London! Extremely fresh!
C. J.
Amazing vegan selection. Lovely sauces. Brilliant value for money. Absolutely loved it!
M. R.
Great fish and chip shop. Fresh food and generous portions. Seating area at the back so you can eat in. Highly recommended
A. X.
First of all, in my world, one star is "Never Never Again", three stars is "OK, Nothing Special", and five stars is "Let Me Eat Nothing Else!"...
... And I have to admit that over thirty years in London, this is one of the best Fish & Chip shops I have been to... said with the proviso that there really are not that many good ones around. Outside, a banner proudly proclaims "Best Independent Chippy 2016" or somesuch. The menu is impressive - sit down with table service for extra charge (inside or on the street) or grab a takeaway - the place is CLEAN and welcoming, and does not have years of oily grime on the ceiling like some purveyors I could mention. And they use eco friendly cardboard containers rather than the standard paper wrapping. It works well, keeping the food warm without letting it steam to a sogginess.
And the food? Well, the chips are thick cut, fried to a light golden colour and frankly pretty darn good. I have had cod mostly, and it is moist, well fried and the batter is crisp without soaking up the oil. So far, so good.
One of the problems with fish and chips is that it's a monster meal of fried carbs and protein, which can be a bit of stomach deadener. So last week, I ordered Mackerel in a bun with salad for £3.95. The mackerel was not huge, but was tasty. The bun was... a bun. But the best bit was it was crammed with curly endive salad that really helped the overall taste and textural experience, complete with just the right amount of home-made tartar sauce. Delicious. Really. For the money, forget McDonalds, eat this. I lubricated this down with a good strong mug of tea (£1.20), the teabag identified by some tea company I had never heard of, but proper quality. The place reeks of care and quality - careful frying quality control, proper oil and temperatures, and quality ingredients.
A healthy oily fish meal that filled a tall man like me, tipping in at just over a fiver. Or splurge out on the traditional bigger fish like cod and haddock. What's not to like?
L. S.
Nice fresh food. Portons not over generous for the price. Its not cheap but they are al2ays busy. Food is freshly cooked so you will wait for your order. One really nice thing. No two. 1 they clearly mark if the fish is kindly and responsibly sourced not damaging other fish so you can choose to buy that or something else and they haave a fishermans charity pot so realise that fishermen/woman put their lives at risk to catch fish and make it possible to donate to that charity. The shop is clean everythings on veiw so you know your eating food cooked in a hygenic envionment. Since posting the review I had a cold under cooked bones peice of cod. I told the staff who offered a free replacement they then pointed me to the owner who understood how the issue occurred saying it was probably the thickest part of the fish so I should ask for a different cut in future. I dont want to have to worry about which bit of the fish i need to order. He did not follow through on the offer made by the staff. He seemed less than happy and slightly defensive. I'd have preferred a no quibble offer of replacement or a plain unequivocal apology. He made me feel as though I might be on a scam and while I understand this it made me feel embarrassed and wish I hadn't mentioned the issue but at the price and with a good reputation they would like maintained I thought letting him know might be helpful but I wasn't correct in my assumption. I did not find his implication helpful I was so embarresed i left. I'm not so happy about going back which is a shame
M. C.
Great chippie. Friendly and efficient. Take orders in advance by phone so no waiting around when you pick up. Interesting selection of fish. Lucky to have it so near.
J. R.
Big queues on Friday, but worth the wait. Great fish and chips.
E. V.
Came on a Friday night when it was really busy, they’re really organised and have a really good system. The girls that work here are STUNNING 😍 especially the tall one with dark hair, if they ever let her go il have to find another chippy 😩. The place is clean and your treated really well. Very family and homieeee...
J. H.
Great service and the best fish and chips in south east london. Best to phone order in as it's a very busy shop.
R. A.
Amazing fish and chips and the tartar sauce is wonderful.
Why didn't I come here sooner 😂
S. M.
Proper fish and chips. The fish is delicious, sustainable and cooked to perfection. The potatoes are freshly chipped and fried, keeping the flavour locked in, and a serious contender for best chips in the country.
C. B.
Best chips around! After a problem with one of my orders the owner took it really seriously. Can say that this is my fav chippy and a Saturday nights stable.
A. J. M.
The best fish n chips I'm aware of in the area. Also offer a selection of grilled fish. Can work out a bit pricey if you're buying for a whole family.
f. l.
Best fish and chips in the bits, I'll even travel to Brockley when the craving kicks in 10/10
E. A.
Hands down best chippy! There's a nice vibe to the place, it doesn't feel greasy like some and the staff are always really pleasant and friendly. There's a nice and interesting range of options, but most importantly the chips are perfect, nice and chunky, crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. A huge fan of their mushy peas which are well-seasoned. Pick up an "I heart Brockley" bag here for cheap too! #WeHeartHitchcock
J. S.
The cod portion was big. It was freshly cooked to order and delicious, as were the chips. Staff were friendly. A little expensive but excellent food.
C. P.
This place has recently added a vegan menu. It has "fish steaks" and "sausages in batter" and chips and more all cooked in a separate fryer. I missed my Brockleys rock after becoming vegan so this is delighting.
A. P.
For all the hype I'd honestly say I feel this places to be a little over rated or perhaps just a little overpriced. The pies have been good, but the chips are very pale. Portion sizes are about average.
T. M.
Great fish and lovely chips! There’s cheaper and larger portions around but with a big drop in quality. Go here.
M. B.
One of the best places for fish and chips in South London. Delicious and scrummy!
D. 7.
Fantastic fish and chips ! Staff are friendly and polite. Good system in place for collection of takeaways.
M. D.
Beautiful piece of fish, eaten at an outside table on a genuine china plate with real cutlery. Its a top place to eat in, even if that's out, or take away and eat in the park or at home.
R. H.
Best fish and chips in London in my opinion, large portions and a great selection for all diets. A little expensive, but the quality is there
A. D.
Seafood platter MAGIC. Real beautiful food. Chips. Customers q out onto pavement, but you can sit in and get ice cream.
Z. P.
Two things strike you when you come into the Brockley Rock – one that rather cool 'I heart broccoli' tote bag hanging on the wall, and two that they have a gluten free menu. Not your average chippy then. The veggie options here were limited (but that's not uncommon at fish 'n' chip shops!) but they did have a veggie cake and a veggie spring roll with chips. You can take-away here or be old school and sit in. We took a pew to have our suppers. Our waitress was lovely, and even seemed concerned that I hadn't managed to finish my massive portion. All in all, a really nice little place... or should that be plaice?
C. R.
Great fish and chips. Make sure you ask for crispy batter bits! Their yummy
P. C.
Great food and good range of options. Don't do gluten free range on Fridays though.
B. C.
The best chips in town by far! Grab your self a mackerel bap, calamari or some excellently minty mushy peas from the friendly staff at Brockley Rock. They also sell 'I Broccoli Brockley' bags the vegetarian friendly 'I Heart Brockley' alternative. A great addition to the high street. A welcome treat.
#Irishtini
K. H.
Would have been 5, but I don't think I'll ever get over fish and chips being just under a tenner. Really nice fish AND chips (and curry sauce...)
A. G.
Great chips. Fish a little oily. Service good. Portions massive. It's the best place to go for fish and chips in the borough of Lewisham.
T. B.
When people queue down the street for takeaway food, you know it must be special. My choice is dodge the standing outside by sitting in and having my fish grilled rather than battered, but either way is delicious.
a. M.
Definitely the best fish and chip shop in 7 mile radius..including the tourists trap in Boro market and that one opposite Brockwell pk brixton
M. G.
Food is fresh and cooked to order. Tasty and filling. The kids love it too😊
A.
Great food and service. Cod and chips is amazing here when done fresh. 😁
J. P.
Best fish and chips in town. Very nice and friendly staff, people are professional and food is just delicious.
E. R.
Delicious fish and chips served in a cardboard box. Yummy. Lots of options on the menu. A seat while you wait. Opportunity to pre-order on the phone.
V. H.
It's very popular but to be honest I find the service mardy and the prices ridiculous. Paying for the tattoo-beard quotient I reckon. That said, the chips are good and the packaging all paper.
H. L.
Delicious! I particularly like the fish grilled rather than battered. Very generous portions and lovely sauces... Also clean and very friendly.
R. L.
Easily the best fish and chips in the area. The fish is always freshly cooked and the chips are perfect. 5 stars!!
D. H.
Not bad but certainly not the best in the area. Fish is fine but chip portions are incredibly stingy. If you eat in you get even less which is annoying
W.
Usually pretty tasty, try and avoid rush hours as the quality can drop, other times, good fish and chips, fish cakes are a bit on the potatoe'y side and firm, hence the 4.
M. C.
Great fish and chips. Super fresh and exceedingly tasty.
J. B.
Great, once again!!! Calamari is yummy 😋. Dipping sauce served with it is delicious.
M. M.
Very nice fish and chips. They cook the fish while you wait. I think it's the best around in the area.
M. C.
Local chippy! Everything is fresh can recommend the fish cakes, and the rock! There is a wait for your order food is good quality, and you can eat in if you want!
G. L.
Excellent quality fish and chip shop. Can get busy even for a "quiet" day but worth the wait.
C. N.
Great fish & chip shop, a wide variety of fish cooked to a high quality. Always queues on a Friday but meals can be pre ordered
O. K.
Best fish and chips in the area. Great portion for the price at high quality taste.
M. 2.
Best place for fish and chips in London 😍
C. P.
This place has recently added a vegan menu. It has "fish steaks" and "sausages in batter" and chips and more all cooked in a separate fryer. I missed my Brockleys rock after becoming vegan so this is delighting.
S. D.

Would have been 5, but I don't think I'll ever get over fish and chips being just under a tenner. Really nice fish AND chips (and curry sauce...)
J. R.

B. W. B.
Very good. But prices keep inching up and either the large chips have got smaller or the wrong size was given
R. R.
Best fish and chips in London. But the ordering process leaves much to be desired. On a busy Friday night, I was quoted 25 mins wait for a single portion of chips - the same amount of time as the person in front who ordered 4 portions of …
