Reviews of C & R Cafe Restaurant

Knowing the food of Malaysia & Singapore well, this stuff is legit. It has been my fix since I have not been able to get over there because of the pandemic.
The setup is pretty close to the hawker centres you find over in Malaysia. It is simple but friendly with the focus on the food.
The food quality is good, with the expectation of one visit it has been on point. Even then it wasn’t that bad. I can tell that the kitchen is genuine and not accommodating for western palettes.
The prices are good especially when you consider the location of the cafe.
I am a regular 👌🏼

My go to Malaysian restaurant since 2009. Big portions and sightly reasonable prices. Smack in the middle of China Town. If you're missing Malaysian food, this is one of the few ones to go to in central London.
B. W.
Yummy authentic food at fair prices... And no Service Charge!!! Amazing stuff. Price on the menu is what they actually charge you. Wat Tan Ho was delicious on a cold day, Hainanese Chicken Rice was good but not the best we've had, however carrot cake was amazzzzing. Waitress was super friendly on the top floor.

This C&R Malaysian restaurant has to be one of the top restaurants in London. It was a pity that I couldn't visit for over 2 years due to lockdown.. It was delicious to visit again today..
A. T.
One of our favourite eating places in London where we can have authentic Malaysian dishes. Love their Nasi Lemak, Asam laksa and chicken satay 😋 They even sell frozen MSW durians which we have bought to try!
T. J.
Very disappointed with the food on this visit as we had high expectations set from recommendations from other Malaysians.
The Roti was greasy, dense and the curry was not typical of one that would be served in Malaysia with a Roti.
The Lobak was fine, nothing special.
The Char koay teow tasted fine and was the highlight of the meal.
The Hokkien Char was ok, the flavours were correct but was missing the Wok Hei.
The Mee Goragng Mamak was just dreadful, they seriously used dried instant noodles as the noodle for this dish as opposed to yellow noodles. The sauce used to fry was completely wrong, it was all tomato. Also missing the Wok Hei.
On the plus side the staff were great, very friendly and efficient. Overall wont be going back as it just wasn't good.
R. F.
Great Authentic Malaysian cuisine with big portion is very nice and yummy. I definitely will be back as there is huge selection from the menu.
N. K.
Great little Malaysian cafe tucked away down one of the side streets in Chinatown. Great prices and delicious food. Service very quick.
S. T.
Used to go to C&R Café regularly before COVID. Having returned for the very first time after 2 years, the food is still consistent and a great variety to choose from!
S. H. (.
Massive portion but still very tasty! 👍👍
Always crowded and they don’t take reservation unfortunately…. But it’s worth waiting in a queue if it’s not too bad!
Will come back again😋

Another hidden gem.
As soon as we went in there were people already waiting for their orders but the restaurant just opened. Very fast service, good food that is really worth it.
I was happy my friends brought me to this place and surely I will have some of my friends try this place out too.
I had the hainanese chicken rice. The chicken was very tender and the flavour was really good. They served it with chili sauce which complimented the chicken rice nd the soy sauce.
I had the okra with shrimp paste, salty because of the shrimp paste and sweetness came from the onions. The okra and onion still had their crunch and it was not overcooked.
I also tried the pork belly. Very very tender. It was seasoned really well. I could have this dish too but I was just too full from the hainanese chicken rice.
Next time I will come back and try their noodle dishes.
C. T.
Authentic Malaysia food! Owner were friendly and it makes me feel like I’m back to Malaysia! Definitely cure my home sickness :)

This is an old favourite from before Covid and was nice to be back. Most stuff on the menu is good (my Malaysian friend loved the Mince Noodle Soup she got). Noticed things are a bit more expensive than previously, especially for what you get (they bill themselves as no frills and I respect them for that). I guess they are trying to recuperate losses…but I hope they go back to cheap and cheerful in the future.
M. H.
Most probably the best and the most authentic Malaysian food restaurant in London. They offer a sumptuous menu, fast and efficient service, and a very clean surroundings right in one corner of China Town.
F. L.
Cendol dessert was a star offering and all the savoury dishes we ordered were impeccable. Pork rib soup was stunning and the sour fried boiled egg provided a nice respite along with the cantonese-esque fish cake noodles. Friendly service too.
I reluctantly deduct a star because the Kamping Nasi Goreng was not spicy, it was completely mild with no chilli, despite being the only fish on the menu with very spicy status. Also the beef rendang doesn't march previous descriptions of it being dry, dark and caramelised. The portion of the beef was also tiny compared to the other dishes which was odd.
Overall a lovely experience will definitely return.
Y.
The food is nice, friendly staff. I went there with my daughter first time and I have nasi lemak my daughter has wa tan ho. Very nice sambal and my daughter like hers wa tan ho with lots of seafood. After 2 weeks I bought my husband and my sister and they thought the same. The food was nice and very big portion, good price and very good service. We definitely will come back again.
A. B.
Stunning food which is completely different than the neighbouring Chinatown.
Lovely and friendly staff waiting on you.
The beef rendang was gorgeous and the sambal chicken wings which we didn’t get a picture of were some of the best we’ve had.
Q. W.
Food was good but not amazing. Ordered the belacan morning glory, roti and nasi lemak. Roti was rather cold and the nasi lemak was alright. Service wasn't great either the waitress seemed annoyed when we asked her for recommendations
J. Y.
Best central London Malaysian ever! We especially enjoyed the Singapore laksa, roti canai (that was bussin) and the Phad Thai :) also super friendly service and great value - review co wrote by Daniel Shanice

Excellent Malaysian food, the bah kut teh soup was tasty, hokkien mee crispy with the perfect amount of sauce while the achar and roti were both excellent and well prepared. This is a busy and popular restaurant for a reason, get there early before the queues and experience some real malaysian food.
K. J.
I ordered nasi lemak and beef rendang and immediately loved the taste. I learned from them that some ingredients are brought all the way from Malaysia so you'd expect 100% authentic and delicately served food. Highly recommended.
P. M.
Great Malaysian cuisine served here. The Hokkien mee is one of the best in the country and quite hard to find in the UK, so do sample it. Otherwise the Char Kuey Teow, Penang Prawn Mee are all noteworthy main courses to opt for.
D. W.
Food was Great & Tasty, abit much to “ Asian “ taste.
But “ Not Punching “ to the taste.
Customer service cant asking much better as that is “ Asian “ culture in London.
C. R.
Loves this restaurant. Has been going for many, many years. Highly recommended their Pan Mee. Wat Tan Hor, Hokkein Mee, Bak Kut Teh. That's I would highly recommended👍❤
S. W.
Great find using Google maps. Amazing food. As most reviews say. The Laskas/soups are amazing.
B. R. W.
Big portion but not worth the price. The salted fish fried rice wasn’t good. The staff was trying to sell other dishes that we didn’t want.
W. M.
Inexpensive food, big portions, very nice staff. Definitely a recommendation.

Probably the only authentic/decent Malaysian food in town. Go for the chicken with bone curry - it’s absolutely fabulous.
Thumbs up.
K. R.
Very nice food and regular price for central London!!! Will return!!
J. P.
Authentic, delicious, good portions, value for money, efficient. wat Dan Hot, Kum Heong fried rice are favourites.

My go to place for Malaysian and my last restaurant meal before lockdown March 2020 and first when it finally reopened. Both times lor mee and loh bak.
C. J.
Would have been genuine 5 stars if not for the lack of decent service 🐸 (at the beginning the staff didn’t really make our group feel welcome).
Food is yum and consistent (their laksa is so good!), just wish service was too.
I am usually understanding of this when I come in as it’s usually on packed weekend hours, but I sat in for a late lunch on a weekday. The restaurant wasn’t even full. :(
P. 2.
The most authentic Malaysian food in Chinatown... The Nasi Lamak is amazing, the smell will take you back to Malaysia, Ais Limau is authentic 👍👍
A. C.
Though it was a little difficult to find, it is very much worth the visit. The chicken and beef is halal here. The service was prompt, the wait staff friendly and engaging. The venue is well lit and spaced out nicely for the small space. The cafe has a nice and relaxed atmosphere too.
T. M.
The portion size is really large and the food is tasty! A bit crowded inside and odds are you will have to queue but all in all, I still think it is worth a visit!
e. t.
It's been a long time I wanted to visit this place as it is recommended by a friend. Unfortunately the day we visited there was a problem with the kitchen so we had a small number of dishes to choose from. We've tried the nasi lemak, a chicken curry with coconut rice and a quite spicy sauce, the singapore laksa and a sausage for starter. They portions were big, service was fast and food was delicious.
R. B.
Food is pretty good but service has really gone downhill
Food (Taste and Quality): 4/5 they have Great Laksa, Har Mee and also Wah Dan Hor, about as authentic as you can get in London
Service: 2/5 used to be ok but really went downhill, took a long time to get food and charged for any request eg. Only one type of noodle instead of two types in har mee
Atmosphere: 2/5 crowded and pretty loud, it’s a cheap eats place not somewhere to hang out and chill
Price: 4/5 very fair
J. Y.
Love this place lots of amazing Malaysian foods and curry laksa is one of those that I'm craving for especially during this cold weather. It's at a good price at £9.50. Totally recommended. Few other things to try out will be Nasi Lemak and Wat Tan Hor (flat rice noodles with egg gravy)
G. M.
A little hidden gem of a place just a few steps away from the main touristy streets of Chinatown.
The place was full with tables turning regularly.
The menu was pretty large and affordable.
Service was friendly enough and efficient.
B. A.
Probably the only authentic/decent Malaysian food in town. Go for the chicken with bone curry - it’s absolutely fabulous.

Amazing Malaysian and Singapore food.

Food was amazing, you leave feeling full and happy

Char kuey tiao with wok hay, love it.
R. E.
Casual and friendly ambience, never a let down. Foods always tasty and served quickly. Offering Southeast Asian cuisine favourites.
M. S.
Food was alright, it was nice but not life changing. Service was poor (but kind of expected). Prices are a bit steep for what you get but I suppose it's in Chinatown. The menu photos on Google are deceiving and must be from a while ago as the noodle soups are now £9-10 rather than £7-8.
D. S.
A relatively small (albeit spread over two floors) unpretentious restaurant in the heart of London Chinatown - tucked away down a small alley off Wardour Street.
Although marketed as Malaysian cuisine, dishes are also Taiwanese, Singaporean etc. Great flavours and very reasonably priced for the area. Service and decor are fairly basic but the food is good. Didn’t feel rushed and really enjoyed our Chinese New Year experience!
J. P.
I enjoyed my dinner here which was sambal chicken wings and kangkong. Staff were very friendly and my food came out quickly allowing me to make my show. There was a good menu selection and a great atmosphere with other patrons clearly enjoying their meals as well.
S. L. L.
Authentic Malaysian food!!! I am a Malaysian and i must say the food here remind me of my home country! Chicken rice is incredibly delicious, it costs £8.5. Hot milo £3. 100% recommended!👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Update: my friend and I got diarrhoea for eating hainanese chicken rice (me) and singapore laksa (my friend) Not really sure if it is because of eating in C&R, but that diarrhoea really intimidated me from going there again even tho they taste really delicious.
R. L.
Highly recommend the hainanese chicken rice here! They use the thigh and they definitely do the rice correctly by cooking in chicken stock. The chicken was juicy and filled with taste, love it. Missing it now!
Do not recommend getting the fried tofu with peanuts and shrimp paste sauce.
S. P.
Authentic Malaysian food in the heart of London! Excellent Nasi Goreng, just the right level of spice and crunch. Ambience is basic which is good because it doesn’t take away your attention from the delicious food and efficient service. Is a hidden gem 👌🏻
D. C.
Food was tasty and reasonably priced.
Also I like it because they don't force the optional service charge onto your bill because then it avoids me having to feel stressed by it.
A. C.
Fantastic little restaurant. The food was superb and the service was slick. The prices were extremely reasonable. It's easy to see why people are queuing to get in. Food wise, we had the Singapore laksa, very creamy and spicy. To drink I went for bubble tea with tapioca pearls.
This place is a real gem and a new favourite.
B. H. K.
We tried the char koay teow, prawn mee, wat tan hor, hainanese chicken rice, and rojak. Char koay teow had pretty good wok hei, prawn mee was tasty, chicken rice was good, and the wat tan hor was probably the best I have had in the UK. Rojak was unfortunately underwhelming. Overall would recommend just because of the authenticity compared to a lot of other so called Malaysian restaurants.
N. C.
Sampled their Hainanese Chicken Rice and Belacan Kang Kong which I am pleased to say is not bad and pretty close to authentic. The right amount of flavors, correct sauces and good oil rice.
Don't come for the service, come for the food. Restaurant is definitely tight and pretty small, gets busy during weekends and meal times. There is a minimum 10 pounds spend before you can pay by card.
Definitely recommend this restaurant and will return again when opportunity permits.
M. S.
Went to eat here with a Malaysian friend, they were impressed. Really tasty authentic Malaysian food. Staff were friendly, efficient and portions were good
A. R.
The best Malaysian cuisine i have had so far. Ordered the Mee Goreng and Nasi Lemang. Tucked away in a small by lane in Chinatown. Good value for the price paid and nice service. Often you will find a queue to get seated inside but worth the appr 15 min wait.
C. F.
CRC is hidden down an alleyway in Soho China town UK. Close to the new gates. I was pleasantly surprised by them, the food and service were great. If you're with a big group they can move their tables around to accommodate you.
Y. C.
I felt they are not as good as 2 years ago... please ask staff for chopped Green pepper, it's one of the sauce/spice they offered for customers, that's the most amazing thing. Add some into your food then upgrade to another level. The staff that serve us is quite rude, that's another reason I only gave 3 stars.
L. L.
The Singapore laksa noodle soup was rich in flavour, definitely one of the best in town. Kampung style nasi goreng was okay, slightly too oily to my taste. Overall taste of food was good with mediocre service quality.
A. C.
Excellent and authentic Malaysian flavours for an affordable price. Mee Goreng, Nasi Goreng, Penang Prawn Mee are all delicious and really really hit the spot when you need some good asian dishes to feed the soul!
S. C.
Food
Singapore laksa was pretty good but it lacked balance of flavour. Mainly spicy but wanted that touch of sweetness that you’d expect from a laksa. Grilled chicken steak noodle was quite nice and hit the spot for a cold evening.
Ambience
Nice and clean. Expectedly tight seating given that it’s in Chinatown.
Service
It could have been better, waitress was slightly rude when asking for water, chilli, etc.
Y. H.
Best Nasi Goreng in London!
Service is ok.
H. L.
Best Malaysian restaurant in London. We tried Penang Assam Laksa, Penang Prawn mee, Nasi Lemak, and mee goreng, and they are all good! I particularly love Assam Laksa as it is very rare in the UK, and they made it taste like home ...
E. M.
Love the food. Big serving and tasty. The only set back you feel rushed.
F. S.
Finally some authentic Hainan chicken rice!!!!! And the boss man was super nice helping me charge my iPhone 💯💯highly recommended
R. R.
Delicious Singapore-Malaysian food with tasty ingredients. They have the spread of sambals and chili padis which is really key and prices are moderate here. Staff are very helpful and available.
A. L.
Lovely Asian cuisine. Had the Singapore laksa - nice spicy coconut broth. Brisk service. Would come back to try other dishes if time allows (am travelling)
J. J.
Really great traditional and authentic Malaysian restaurant. The food is generally great, my fave being the Singapore Laksa which is more coconutty - my fave laksa place in London anyway. The other foods are great as well - roti canai. There are rules which is cannot be seated until all guests have arrived, minimum spend per person is £8.50, and minimum eftpos amount is £10 - but there is no service charge ! Awesome.
J. H.
C & R was just what we needed for a quick pre-concert dinner. Having never tried cuisine from either Singapore or Malaysia, this was a good standard to set! I definitely preferred the nasi lemak over char kway teow. Crunchy peanuts and anchovies made it unique for me whereas the stir fried ho fun-like noodles reminded me of other dishes I’d eaten before from Chinese cuisine. It was all served at a comfortable pace and their mains cost around £10 a plate.
L. L.
Best Malaysian restaurant I know, it's delicious, authentic and there is a great range of dishes on the menu
D. P.
I went to C&R with my Chinese Malaysian boyfriend to celebrate the mid-autumn festival. We were both really impressed with the huge choice of Malaysian dishes on the menu which you can’t really find in London. The portions are quite big and the desserts are very tasty! The staff was extremely friendly and helped me out out with my dietary restrictions. I loved it!
C.
Authentic Malaysian food
Had the Hokkien Mee (noodles) which was exactly as one would get in Malaysia - absolutely delicious!
The chicken satay sadly is not as good - seems fried (not charcoal grilled) and the peanut sauce is not that great - still very good.
R. E.
Best Malaysian food I've ever had! So delicious
L. L.
This Malaysian restaurant is one of the best food options around Chinatown. It is located just off the main street and it is easy to miss, but the food quality is really good and the flavours are Malaysian indeed. We tried the nasi lemak and singapore laksa and both were very tasty and generous portions. Service was fast and the place accepts card payments as well, which is quite rare for restaurants around that area.
T. C.
Literally in the centre of London and incredibly affordable. Food was unreal - it's no wonder that some of London's best chefs are regularly found hanging out here.
M. T.
This is the best Roti Canai I can find in London. They do a lot of Malaysian dishes very well. Service is always efficient.
R. B.
Food was amazing! Staff was a bit cold maybe because it was too busy. Reasonable price.
A. S. I.
Great authentic Malaysian food (with Chinese emphasis). Good prices for London. Laksa is great, and so is chicken curry.
S. S.
Very nice portion for the price. Absolutely loved that the staff recommended ways in which to eat the meal traditionally, for example one of the dishes we ordered is traditionally eaten with vinegar and a member of staff gave us a bottle of vinegar to enjoy the meal with :)
r. r.
Been going to this place for years now. As a Malaysian, other than Roti King and Gopal’s Corner, this is the place to get your malaysian hawker style food fix!
W. L.
Great Malaysian and Singaporean food. C &R is one of the beat malay and singaporean places in London. The price is good and the food tastes nice. Their nasi lemak is rather nice. Some colleagues recommend the laksa. Other colleagues say that the hainanese chicken rice is best had elsewhere. Overall, very nice place.
K. T.
Great Malaysia food in London. Satisfied my gf craving. Large portion
C.
Been going for few years, not bad for no frills @ reasonable price, the rice and broths used to be better they’re more basic now but still ok
S. H.
Relaxed atmosphere, quick service, delicious food. I don't know much about Malaysian food so don't know how authentic it is but what I had tasted lovely. Drinks seem slightly overpriced but the meal was great and very filling!
K. T.
Went for dinner last night, quickly seated even though it was quite busy. Service was fast, food was SO delicious and the prices were more than reasonable for the portion and being in Central London, I would know as I’ve lived in London my whole life. So much food we took it away, highly recommend don’t believe the bad reviews it’s very authentic!
P. T.
Decent enough Malaysian food if you’re missing home. Good prices and large portions.
J. H.
My Malaysian auntie has been living in London for most of her years. She brought me to this place two years ago to eat some of her favourite noodles. I came back to London to bring one of my friends here, and it was just as amazing as it was back then! It's cheaper than most restaurants in China Town, and the flavours are amazing!! The food is really authentic and incredibly good! We had Char Kuey Teow and Singapore Laksa noodles with fishball soup. Would give a 6 out of 5 for the food if I could! Service was honest and quite fast (otherwise nothing in particular). Would 110% recommend it!!
I. L. B.
An unpretentious, simple cafe for fast, fresh and tasty Asian food, tucked away in a small passage that is easy to miss. Great unbeatable value.
H. W.
Malaysian restaurant in a little alleyway in Chinatown. Make sure you turn up with your whole group as they won’t seat you. Noodle soup dishes are HUGE! Made the mistake of ordering satay as well which was far too much. Tasty.
h.
Really delicious Malaysian/ Singaporean food. I ordered the Singaporean Laksa, which is one of the dishes this place is famous for. A large portion (I struggled to finish it) with so much in it: broth, vermicelli noodles, chicken, prawns. Very flavoursome with a little spice. Dish was under £10: if you order wisely and don't get sides, each person can eat properly for under £10. Will definitely be coming back here.
J. E.
Good Malaysian at very reasonable prices. Looking forward to going back and trying more of what they have to offer.
I had a short wait for a table but not long. Seems to be a popular dinner spot.
S. Z.
The dishes are quite large although pricing isn't the most budget-friendly. Dishes are kind of expensive for what it is. BF got charged £3 for rice that wasn't made clear that it didn't come with the dish - kind of a scam.
P. S.
Agree Food was good and it came very fast but service is really not that great.
Papaya salad not sure if it was papaya salad anybody who could confirm?
S. Y.
This is not a place for a casual dinner as space is a premium and customers do que outside. But the food is good and authentic.
A. J.
Amazing food for the price! The service was excellent, everytime I needed someone, they were not hard to find and they were very kind and happy to fulfill what I asked. The price is also great considering the great food you get.
J. F.
Quick to get us in and sat down, ordered and served. The food was very well priced and tasted good, would recommend for a more casual but authentic experience.
M. W.
The soup could taste more flavour , service ok.
Minus for paying extra for lemon & not adding more greens
N. C.
Came here in the evening, there was a bit of a queue but the wait was worth it. My sister and I were hungry and ordered laksa, seafood hor fun and bak kut teh to share between the two of us. Everything was so good and really hit the spot. And the portions are generous as well!
J. P.
Nice char quay teow and Hokkien mee, I went here when another Malaysian restaurant I go to was shut to try it for a change. I would come again.
L. S.
Amazing food. Quite busy so we got there at 6pm and got a table fine.
C. X.
The place is a little hard to find, since it is located on a small pedestrian road (alley). Flavours are good with large portions.
E.
Can get crowded over the weekend so plan ahead. Portions are quite large and very reasonably priced. If you want good food, then a good place to visit.
F. T.
Courtesy staff and delicious Malaysian cuisine 😋
F. L.
Came here for the laksa, generous servings but they use only vermicelli noodles which I am not used to. The Malaysian milk tea is really authentic!
T. T.
There is a quite but otherwise great spot to satisfy Malaysian food cravings. Famous for there wahtanhor but there laksa has got a reasonable kick to it also
M. W.
Small place but full of customers for a late weekday lunch when I arrived. The Singaporean laksa came in a huge bowl and was delicious!
N. C.
Friendly staff, delicious but not pricey food and drinks. Really worth it, especially if you don't want to overspend on Asian food in London Chinatown!
J. N.
Great authentic Malaysian food!! Really quick and affordable. I loved the Tom yum seafood noodle soup and the laksa is also great.
嘤.
Authentic Malaysian food. Good portion and fair price.
K. A.
This is my favorite restaurant. I went there 3 times last week! This is comfort food!! Thanks guys for the amazing food!!
R. W.
Unusually one of the staff was rude during my last visit so I left without eating. Removing a star, but will definitely give it another go.
D. W.
Quick friendly service with good food in big portions. Great little hidden away option for great Malaysian food.
V. A.
Get the Singapore Laksa!! So delicious, filling and cleansing. Ambience is lacking and if it's busy then you might be a bit too close together but it's worth it for the singapore laska, £9 well spent!!!
EDIT 2022 Singapore laksa now 12.50! :( still delicious though
R. P.
Best place to get Malaysian food in London. Great menu and service is good.
A. N.
The laksa was disappointing, but the nasi lemak quite good. Note that the hokkien mee is Malaysian style with the dark sauce, not Singapore style, if you're looking for that.
D. N.
Established and Reliable place for Malaysian and Singaporean food! Go to place for Laska and other home cooked dishes.
J. S.
Yummy and affordable. Quite enjoy the plum lime drink...minus the paper straws
A. G.
One of the best Malaysian street food restaurants in London .
Very tasty too
W. W.
Authentic Malaysian food at good price. Nice place for a quick and casual dining.
G. B.
Best Singaporean laksa! Been coming here for the last 10 years and always bring new friends recommending the place.
G. T.
Has its fans, and somewhat authentic, but I think I'm done. Exorbitant prices (no surprise that a lot of people stick to tap water), which might be okay for the area if the cooking was better. I couldn't eat the three decent sized prawns in my generously large bowl of broth because they were mushy (cooked from frozen I think) and hadn't been cleaned at all, but must have eaten well given their large and dangerous-looking intestine which proved impossible to remove cleanly. An expensive waste of my money. The pork, in the SEA fashion, was unidentifiable boiled-grey and fatty slivers, and even my half hard-boiled egg (I'm sure I used to get both halves?) had the grey yolk ring of careless preparation. The noodle soup was okay, flavourful and gently spicy, but not as appealing as the laksa. The roti cenai was very oily, although with a delicious pot of satay/curry, but again massively overpriced for what is barely a side dish. Service is not hostile, but it is basic. Everyone knows the menus in restaurants get filthy just through normal use - these could also do with a reissue, and probably trim up to 50% of the less popular dishes. I understand the economics of restaurant food and West End rents, but you have to make more effort at food quality, kitchen skill and perceived value.
M. W.
Reliable Chinese Malaysian food that’s pretty much authentic and affordable.
B. S.
Overpriced and under flavoured
If you wave authentic Malaysian food & cab travel... Noodle house Sutton

Really really good, authentic Malay/Singaporean food!
T.
Usually eat at this restaurant when in town. It is a modest place with authentic Malaysian food, nice beer, nice ambience and staff. Modestly priced too.
S. C.
The value and quality of the food is hard to beat in Chinatown now a days. Had chicken rice, papaya salad and lamb goreng rice, which were all amazing. The staff were really nice and courteous and the service prompt, which cemented the top notch experience. Can't wait to come back for the roti and curry sauce!!!
R. W.
Not been here in a while food is good as usual. I can't give it five stars as it's not the best Hokkien Mee I've had.
d.
Chicken rice was so tender and beyond delish. Roti was wonderfully flaky and crispy and the laksa was just amazingly rich and flavoursome (not great if you can't handle spice tho!). The waiter guy was also a great character. And such good value for money. They don't add service to the bill so tip them good if you enjoy your food. We need this place to still be here after Covid!!
A. E.
Great food, tucked away location, reasonable prices. Had an awesome Laksa and looking forward to returning.
B. N.
Great place to eat and great flavours . I found it a bit expensive for what you get .
S. D.
Very good food! It can get pretty busy, so go early if you don't want to queue.
A.
Hidden Malaysian gem in Chinatown!
This little place was just in a small side street in Chinatown, was worth hunting out! I ordered the Singapore laksa which was extremely tasty and gave me a huge bowl filled with rice noodles, fish, prawns, chicken all in a slightly spicy coconut soup - I highly recommend this dish.
The staff here were very friendly and prompt, as soon as we had ordered our drinks, they appeared within seconds on our table and our food followed very quickly! My friend was vegan and the staff were quick to make sure we knew which dishes were appropriate for her. Very good, authentic Malay food here!
A. L.
This restaurant serves the best singaporean laksa in the city.
h. m. Y.
Mixed review. One extremely rude server today ruined my meal, I was so keen to return to C&R after a year and a half years since Covid. An older male server rushed me to pay and leave before I even finished drinking my tea. I remained polite and thanked him as he finished charging me, but he didn't even look at me or respond with thabks of bye before walking away. Very cold and rude. Love the food though
S. F.
I walked in 12 mins before closing and that meant I had no time really to explore the menu. I chose quickly and all was good, but restaurants really need to make their closing times reflect the last comfortable seating vs. posting a later close time, but applying a pretty ridiculous pressure to choose within a minute of sitting down. Anyway, the noodles and vegetables were good - my shrimp undercooked no doubt because of the rush. I'd like to return and have a more relaxed experience because my noodles and vegetables were really good overall.
K. D.
I've been eating here since 2003 and can't stay away! The laksa is the stuff of dreams, the beef rendang, the noodles... all outstanding! Friendly and fast service make it a great experience. Highly recommended!
S. C.
Tastes just like as if it were from Malaysia. There are other restaurants that may technically be correct but taste completely different from Malay food but this is bang on. Great drinks too and great service!
C. B.
Felt like back in KL - the atmosphere and the authentic food selection
b. S.
Nice place
Nice staff
.... Not quite the authentic Malaysian flavours I'd hoped for
H. A.
The best Singapore laksa in London 👍
P. P.
Great Malay food and very reasonable prices!!!
J. L.
👍
D. M.
Highly recommend this place, if you are Malaysian or Singaporean as the food is as authentic as it gets, at least in London! The place is rather small, so be there early or else you would have to wait in line. The staff are nice and food is served quickly. However, one tip is to leave soon after eating to allow those in line to be able enter the restaurant :)
S. C.
Had Singapore Laksa (mains) Wat Tan Hor (mains) and Fried Butterfly Prawns (sides). Excellent quality overall. Recommend the following:
A. stick to the main dishes (average price 10 quid) as the side dishes were just as costly but tiny in quantity comparatively.
B. Try out the unique beverages - we had hot barley water which was lovely.
P. T. F.
Great laksa, good bak kut teh, comforting Malaysian and Singaporean dishes for cheap prices
M. W.
Looking for authentic Malaysian food in London, very glad that I found it here with fair price and good service. I will be there again soon.
A. A.
I love love love the food here! Wish I could eat here every month. So tasty and authentic. The queue to get in though, if you are unlucky it can take long! The waiters do their job at such high speed they don't get to have much contact or smile with customers, I also think the language barrier is a factor. But what does is matter when the food is great?! :)
L. Z.
I used to come here a lot with my friends who all loved Asian food.
The Singapore laksa seems to be the favourite but I've tried most things in the menu and they're all great! The bubble tea and lychee drink is amazing too.
The staff here are friendly, although that may be because we are regulars here.
At busy times there is a queue but it is worth the wait. They don't seem to rush you out like a lot of Asian restaurants.
J.
I’m Malaysian and this is probably my favourite restaurant in London, I literally go on a weekly basis. Nasi Lemak always comes out 5 mins after you order it! If you’re used to subpar Chinese service, this place is similar but well staffed so it’s no too bad as long as you know how to grab their attention. Good portion, reasonably prices ! Can’t book but their turnover is speedy and 3 floors!
G. K.
Delicious Malaysian restaurant with affordable prices.
p. y. F.
The location is quite secret, staff are friendly and the food is great
M. M.
Lovely little gem tucked away in Chinatown. Decently priced, large portions. The laksa is a must! Can't beat a good malaysian spot and this one certainly does the trick!
L. C.
Really tasty laksa!!! Will absolutely go again.
S. H.
Food is very good for that price. Good service as well.
R. B.
You get exactly what's promised for a very reasonable price - quick service (you can't book and won't be seated until the whole group has arrived), the food was delicious, a huge variety on the menu and a great central location! I had the hainanese chicken rice with iced milk tea, both of which were excellent. Thoroughly recommend.
J. S.
I had the Hainanese Chicken with rice but there was almost no flavour with the chicken and the chili sauce tasted odd. Although the plum and lime drink tasted really good! (only order it if you like sour drinks though). An ok experience overall, but I guess the price wasn’t bad for what you get.
w.
A Bit slow in serving you but the food was good
L.
My first time going there after my partner has been non stop nagging at me to go there with him for months now.
Honestly one of the best Maylasian food restaurants in London (and that is saying at lot about this place to be honest)
We can't wait to come back soon!!!!! And this time we will get lots and lots of photos before we devore our yummy food 😍
F. H.
Delightful Malaysian restaurant with some authentic Malaysian food
K. H.
As someone who does not get to go to Malaysia, and one who loves Malaysian food, this is as close as I'm going to get to decent Malaysian food. A good selection of food and drinks on offer and I'm always pleased with what I get to eat whether it be noodle based dishes or rice with shared plates of main dishes. Worth a visit for a taste of Malaysia.
L. F.
Since the renovation a few years ago, the ambience of the restaurant has significantly improved. But don't expect spacious, room for buggies etc. As is all typical Chinese restaurant, tables are as closed as it can get. So close you can hear everyone's conversation next to you. Hence, not a place for confidential business meeting.
Food wise - you get a great selection of typical Malaysian Chinese food. It is just as good as it can get. Some dishes are not exactly the same but you get an idea. More importantly if you do order a takeaway, check to make sure you're given what you've ordered. I ordered hainanese chicken rice once and they gave me plain white rice instead. It was the most disappointing takeaway ever and it put me off from ordering a takeaway from them ever again. Nevertheless, now and again when I am craving some Malaysian comfort food, I'm back here again.
t. m.
I must say that C&R serve the best Singaporean/Malaysian food in London. I was really upset when I couldn't get to eat horfun from C&R during the lockdown.
M. W.
Fast service in a modern surrounding, definitely one of the best places i've visited in the Soho area. Singapore Laksa was fantastic. I would recommend researching what you'd like for lunch prior to your visit - so you know what you're expecting if you're fresh to this cuisine!
M. S.
Great Malaysian food. I used to come here over 10 years ago when I worked in the area. Came back last night and was so pleased to see they still serve a great Laksa! It’s a friendly, busy, good value, non chain, little gem. Just what London needs.
A. N.
The (Singapore) Laksa here is top notch and extremely good value. The bowl that it comes out in is huge and has plenty of toppings. Taste is super authentic and definitely one of the best I've had in London!
Highly recommended!
J. A.
On an alleyway, we were brought in by the incredible (great) smell. Ignored the low health dept rating. Our introduction to Singapore Laksa -- we were converted. Don't mess with their chilis!
E. N.
I had the roti and sauce followed by the Singapore Laksa and was genuinely blown away by the quality of the food. Tremendous value and I'm still thinking about that Laksa 5 days later! Will be back multiple times, no doubt.
H. T.
Comfort Malaysian food at fair prices!
A. L.
Serves one of my favourite malaysian drinks, lohanguo. Love it.
A. M.
There may be a wait and a line ride at popular times but it is worth it. The food is delicious. Good Singapore laksa and the nasi gorang also yummy. Yes it is busy and yes expect that your dishes may not all come out at the same time but that's part of it and the focus is on the food.
A. M.

A friend told me that he would be taking me somewhere that has delicious Malay food and that isn't teeming with people in Chinatown but still is busy enough to know its good.
Not possible, I said. I was wrong. C&R might look a bit cramped up top, but the food for sure makes up for it by miles. A big menu to choose from. But so many different dishes and treats to try! Well worth visiting again
A. W.
Really good food, fair prices but they really rush you. My rice also didn't arrive for about half an hour from my dish so I'm sitting there not sure whether to start eating or just wait. I was there with 3 others and they all got their food. It's just rice!!!!!! Next table got rice before me even though we sat down and ordered before them. I felt that was pretty poor form. 4 stars for the food but service was poor.
W. N.
Pretty solid Malaysian food in the SOHO district near London Chinatown and Piccadilly circus tube station. The nasi lemak was solid and how it should be (in the photo). Drinks range was average. Service was quick so wait time was minimal. They made an honest mistake on the bill but that didn't cause any dramas which is good, since some places do tend towards a bit of drama. Recommend this spot if you want some solid Malaysian at a fair price.
T.
This is a no frills, clean and quick eatery. It's loud with bustling customers but the food is good. You won't be seated unless all parties are there and they don't take bookings. Staff are efficient but friendly.
We ordered char kway teow and wa tan ho. Decent serving sizes especially for the price you pay and one of the best places found so far in London for Malaysian / Singaporean food. Would go back again and again and recommend to others.
D. L.
A treasure tucked away from busy streets of Chinatown. The chicken rice was delicious and great comfort food. Lovely Malay milk tea and yummy morning glory. Satay chicken however was very dry and when it arrived cold and too greasy.
C. D.
I had the best and chewiest noodles I’ve ever had for a reasonable amount of money (£9.50) The owner was lovely. Very welcoming. Definitely recommend, bookmarking it so I can go back !
A. R.
My go to place for delicious Malaysian food! Can get really busy at times but that just attest how good that place is. A recommended place to eat. Just remember the seating can get a little cramped, so you can feel as if you're dining with another unknown person 🤣
A. C.
Authentic Malaysian food, with dishes ranging from good to excellent. Especially recommend the roti canai, Thai fish cakes and chicken rice. The kampung style nasi goreng and chicken satay weren't as great. Prices can seem a bit high but portions are huge - honestly I think they could make them smaller and reign the prices in a bit! Service is quick but friendly, and while this is a high turnaround place we've never felt the staff pushing us to leave. Expect queues on weekends.
A. O.
When I eat here it's like I'm back in Malaysia again. The food is all great, I've been a few times and everything I've ordered has been so lovely (especially the laksa which I struggle NOT to order every time!) Have lived in London for years and this is one of the top places I've eaten.
M. J.
This place was A-Okay. My Singaporean Laksa was decent but lacking certain oomph factor - it was good but not great, something I could probably replicate easily at home with store-bought Laksa paste. I may return if I am in the area and craving Malay food.
S. S.
Nice food, would probably visit again if I’m nearby. However staff were quite eager to clear the tables. Wouldn’t recommend getting the chicken wings; they were crispy but had no taste, they also cost £6 for tiny nibblets!
D. S.
A delightful, authentic place with delicious food. I ordered a Malaysian-style Nasi goreng, which was amazing. We ordered some starters to share, which disappeared fast. Definitely recommend.
S. F.
Delighted it's open again post COVID. Same great Malaysian food. Needed my roti canai fix.
J. L.
Not a great restaurant in my book. Quality of taste is just ok
J. C.
Food is good. Unfortunately, it's prices just went up in the new year across the whole menu. For example, nasi lemak is £10.50 and Penang prawn noodles is £11.50 (with mixed vermicelli and egg noodles). Similar items can be had at Coconut Tree at Bang Bang for much less.
S. D.
Huge portions at an affordable price. Decor is not that great though, and despite the choices on the menu are many, it takes luck to pick the right food as not everything is good. My pad thai was quite flat in taste like it was missing something, while the spring rolls and roti were nice. Take something with the "special sauce".
H. T. C.
I used to live in Singapore, so I was pleasantly surprised to find out that this restaurant offers really authentic Singapore and Malaysian food. I can find many favorite dishes I tried in Singapore, like Bak Kut Teh, Loo Mee, Chicken Rice, Nasi Lemak... The price is not too expensive, considering this is just inside Soho. One of our favorite restaurants in London!
M. S.
Simple fresh fast Malaysian food with a very authentic feel tucked down a side street in SoHo. Definitely recommend and go for the laksa if you like something with a punch.
A. M.
Tucked away in a side street in Soho is this gem which I have been told is one of the few places with genuine Malaysian cooking in London. The dish I had was a platter of chicken, dried fish, two types of sauces and rise. The chicken was cooked but served cold, was uncertain if it was meant to be that way, the rest was great so I did not challenge it. Would like to go back there some day since there were loads of dishes on the menu that looked really unusual and interesting. The portions were big and the prizes were really reasonable
M. S.
Top notch food and drink, enjoyed with two Malaysians who where missing their nasi.. Fast service, reasonable prices, centre of London. Perhaps not the best place for a long romantic evening meal.
H. D.
The Assam laksa is very legit and one of the most flavourful things I've ever had!
R. M.
Fabulous laksa to keep warm😄😊 amazing 😋😋😋
R. B.
It might be a little bit hidden away down a side alley in Chinatown, but the food here is excellent. I particularly liked the Singapore Laksa, which came in a generous portion with lots of well flavored soup. The Roti Canai were also excellent. This is going to become one of my regular stops in the area.
G. C.
Authentic asian food which is hard to find around central London. The service was speedy and meals arrived very quickly. This is great if you're in a rush! There is a wide variety on the menu and definitely well known for their laskas!
S. R.
A good place to enjoy Malaysian food. A bit disappointed my Hainanese chicken rice was dry and the rice not too flavoursome. The laksa was much better with a richer sauce
M. M.
Amazing Malaysian food, really quick service. A good mix of dishes, for really reasonable prices. Tucked down an ally so less touristy than as lot of places nearby in Chinatown.
A. P.
I like the Malaysian meals so much, that I can east them every day.
Some of the spices are not good for my stomach and digestive system. But excluding these things, each dish brings joy and delight in my life.
M. J.
The food and service was great and the fresh mixed fruit juice was devine I could have drink 2 glasses easily. This is one of favourite eateries. The only complain I have is the place was cold upstairs where we set.
I. R.
One of my favourite place to eat in London. I am Malaysian. So great Malaysian food here and good value for money. The dishes are big so try not to order too much to start with. They also do ice kacang also known as abc though it is not on the menu. They also do cendol which is not on the menu either. Brilliant place. Definitely recommend.
A. C.
Such good food and large portions.
F. K.
Great Malaysian food - I love the laksa, Nasi goreng and Nasi lemak. Takeaway food is great too! Would highly recommend
L. P.
Awesome and delicious food and good service. They have a big variety of dishes from which you can choose what suits you most.
I don't eat spicy food at all and it is one of the few places that I can safely order and not return due to the food being spicy.
y. k.
Amazing food! Probably best in the asian restaurant in London. Singapole laksa, wangtan ho are my favorite, but everything is tasty here.Someone is talking about the service, but I think they got improved although they are busy, quick serving and never feel unconfortable! Honestly I don't care the service cuz the food is so good!!!
J. C.
Good spicy food! Call it for extra spicy! Feels like home 😍
T. T.
Great Malaysian cuisine at very reasonable prices. It's not a place where you spend a lot of time. Just eat and go but the food is good.
M. M.
One my favourite authentic Malaysian restaurants.
Reasonable prices with great service.
15 years later still going back once a week
K. G.
Good authentic malaysian food. Chili is actually spicy and food is tasty! Note thay the air conditioning was very strong and as I waited for my friend's food to come my food went cold rather quickly.
Y. F.
The very best Malaysian cuisine I have ever experienced in London to date, hands down. 100% authentic taste, no joke. (this review is edited to cater to this branch in Rupert Street).
Like anyone with Malaysian heritage, it's embedded in ones' blood to seek out eating places serving the most authentic dishes possible that originate from Malaysia. Having searched far and wide and either being disappointed or feeling I could have had better elsewhere, C&R is the only place I've found that serves dishes that taste identical, if not extremely close to the ones you would get back in the hub of South East Asia that is Malaysia.
To my knowledge, this cafe has 2 floors and another separate building, so I'm not really sure about the table count, although it can often get busy and you might need to queue outside (then you know people love it!). It has a pretty standard layout and minor decorations, nothing fancy really, which is great because the minimalistic features don't detract from the eating experience. Of course, you don't go to a restaurant to gawk at the interior design, you go there to eat the food. Unless there's something wrong with you, or you're one of those Yelp “critics”.
The food, my god, is absolutely amazing and faithfully represents the dishes back in Malaysia, everything from looks, textures and tastes. My particular favourites are Wa Tan Hor/Hor Fun, Singapore Laksa and the Char Kway Teow: they (and the other dishes I tried) pretty much taste like how they would back in Malaysia. Just chuck them in a cheap plastic bowl, stick an air con over your head and have some guy come over selling you lottery tickets, and you've pretty much got the full Malaysian experience.
The service is pretty standard I've found and the staff are polite, nothing more nothing less: in other words, it's good. I'm not sure what all these people are talking about when they write about “rude staff” but I'm guessing they just can't handle how direct or no-nonsense people can be from that region of South East Asia.
To draw everything to a conclusion, forget what the internet says, don't listen to what your friends tell you, and stick a finger up at other restaurants declaring themselves “authentic” like it actually meant something. C&R is, and only is, the truly authentic tasting Malaysian restaurant I have come across in this bustling city.
J. H.
Was hoping to have laksa, but there didn't seem to be a vegetarian version, just some other soup noodle dish which didn't sound that exciting. So instead I had the tofu in hot bean sauce with vegetables. It was ok, the vegetables it came with were all very run of the mill UK vegetables (including cauliflower which felt weird to me in South East Asian food). Had some kai lan on the side, which was more interesting.
C. Y.
The food once disappointed me, but no more now.. I loved their mee siam and it's always be my favourite dish.. Bery friendly staffs and fast services too.. But it's not a halal restaurant because they do serve pork menu as well.. 😊
R. D.
This is my ultimate new favourite restaurant. I no longer feel I need to fly all the way to Malaysia to experience authentic food. This place is awesome. Order the lemon ice tea as well!
M. H.
The food is amazing! So much to choose from on the menu so brace yourself. It's now my favourite place to eat and the service is on point! Even when there's a line outside they really arr so attentive to you making sure you get seated as quickly as possible. They close around 11pm.
H. U.
Still one of the more authentic and tastier places in London for Malaysian food. Understated, chilled, inexpensive, street-food style place. What's not to like?! Try the Kampung Style Nasi Goreng!
N. q. y.
I tried:
1) Laksa
2) Char Kway Teow(fried flat noodle)
3) Teo chew fried vermicelli.
4) Mee Hoon Kway
In my opinion. All tasted good. I especially like
Teo chew fried vermicelli. Huge/Generous portions. I must say the food tasted very authentic.
A. M.
Not as good as it once was. Before the refurbishments they made good food, however since then it's gone downhill a bit. Not sure whether the main chef has left, but we ordered Nasi Goreng Kampung and Phad Thai both of which lacked flavour and spiciness.
Shame as I have been coming here for years.
A. D.
We enjoyed it so much that we went twice. By chance we had the same young gentleman server who is very helpful in helping us make a decision. We had no clue what we were ordering and we're very very happy with what we got. We can't wait for our next trip to London, we are sure to go there again.

Our favourite place in London for consistently fresh and high quality authentic Malaysian food. Very kind and friendly staff. Great prices and always a pleasure to eat here.Highly recommended.
W. Y.
Would have given a 4 star had the chicken and sambal on our Nasi Lemak be heated up before serving to us
:( also ordered a chrysanthemum and soy drink, thinking that they would be the home made styles, but the taste clearly tell that they were poured directly from packet drinks.
M. F. (.
I absolutely love the food here. Plenty of tasty options from the Malaysian, Indonesian and Singaporean cuisines.
s. s.
We ordered ala carte, asam pedas fish, beef Rendang, prawn sambal and kalian. We like most of the dishes, but beef Rendang was not as we expected, still good though.
Wonderful service and friendly staff.
K. R.
My favourite place for Malaysian food in London. Small tables and quick turn around. Non fussy atmosphere. Do try the mackerel and the aubergine with anchovies
R. J.
So good to be back eating great food. The covid changes are quite small, largely consisting of spreading out dinners. I went for lunch at 230 and it was relatively quiet. Food still as good as previously
-.
Good food but don't buy any veg dish as £9 for a small plate of some greens is a total rip off. They should be ashamed charging the same as a main dish. Shame as otherwise it's ok.
m. l.
A great place to eat delicious food! The portions are huge and the price is reasonably priced! The food tasted fresh and I would definitely recommend the Singapore Laksa.
C. C.
So yummy! Loved the curry
L. R.
Great portion sizes, good prices and wide variety of choice. Now offering desserts which we tried and were great.
S. Y. L.
This place offers some authentic Malaysian cooking. Top notched in terms of flavour and selection of dishes which is the only thing we cared about to be honest, hence the 5 stars. As far as everything else is concerned, I wouldn't expect too much...
S. M.
In some ways excellent, in others they could do better. The quality of the meat could have been improved. The Rendang beef was clearly not cooked long enough, rendang should be slow cooked for hours till its soft and falling apart, here the beef was tough and looked as if it had just been chucked in the sauce. The sauce however was gorgeous. The satay chicken was not terribly flash either, dried out and tough. The kangkung belacan was absolutely gorgeous, top quality.
Will definitely go again, to see what dishes they do get right.
P. C. K. L.
Food is really nice, only ever had to wait 10 mins at the most for a table. Always packed with people, service is good. Shy off one star as the last time I visited the hot food was partially cold.
B. T.
Top place for affordable and authentic Malaysian in the West End
A. C.
Great time here. Prices are decent and the service is super fast even when packed. Will definitely return again.
B. H.
This place may well take over from Wahaca as my pick for best value eats in Central London. Service is swift if not super-friendly, the menu reads like a greatest hits from South East Asia and the portions are generous.
C. G. D.
I can vouch for the laksa - under a tenner with a cup of Jasmine tea - but I had some serious food envy when checking out what the other (mostly Malay) diners we tucking into. Looks like a menu well worth exploring...
J. P.
I really like this place. If you want a nice sit down meal with your family with fawning service, go somewhere else. If you want to jam good Malaysian food in your face and don't care about anything else, go right on. Roti canai reminded me of Brunei, their laksa is great, they do tea tarik.
W. Y. C.
Food is good and really not expensive for central London, especially with the huge portion sizes. The trade off is in the service --maybe not the most attentive and can be a bit curt, but they do make sure you get your food quickly
G. N.
Authentic Malaysian food at a nice location.
S. S.
Great Malaysian restaurant. Has most dishes you'd expect from Malaysia. Laksa, nasi lemak, roti canai. And beverages to suit, milo ais, teh tarik etc. Worth the visit.
P. S.
Loved the South East Asian food here!
N. K.
Best ever Singapore Laksa in London.
C.
Superb. The Singapore Curry Laksa is amongst the best you'll find London. The Rendaang is another must try too.
Love this place.
A. S.
My flatmate comes here to get her seafood hor fun (wide white noodle) fix, and I come here to get my laksa fix. The menu is extensive, so for anyone looking to try some South-East Asian food, this is the perfect place to do so.
Don't expect anything glamorous though - this is a step up from the authentic outdoor hawker centres.
M. L.
It is hard to find good South East asian food in London. As for Malaysian/Singaporean, this place is probably one of the best in London. Try the Chicken Laksa, Prawn noodles, Wan Ho Tan if you are stuck for choices, they are usually pretty good. Not much for decor but thats not what u come here for.
A. B.
I've finally found decent laksa in London! Sure, it's no Katong laksa, but after the poor run of other laksa's I've sampled in this city, I devoured C&R's Singapore Laksa in minutes. It was delicious and pretty authentic IMHO. Broth could've been stronger, and I would probably go for egg noodles instead of the rice noodles next time, but I will definitely be back, especially at £6.50!
The Ginger Duck Noodles was rubbish though. A measly amount of duck meat paired with a sub-par sauce, I would recommend skipping that particular dish.
A. G.
Very authentic says my wife who's from Singapore. Very tasty say I.
J. B.
Haven't been here for 4 years, live out of London. Food is still excellent and very good value, staff always friendly. Decor upgrade really makes it special.
J. F.
Some of their stuff is good (char kway teow), some not so good (nasi lemak). Nasi lemak chilli is especially disappointing, doesn't taste accurate at all. At least it's better than rasa sayang.
J. T.
Amazing food and amazing value.
L. P.
Reasonable price and very delicious Malaysian food. The shop is in Chinatown but in a small quite corner, away from all the noisy tourists. 👍😊
G. M.
Great Malaysian food in the heart of London. But pricing is catching up quickly. Still love the taste
C. S.
I love this little, off-the-beaten-track restaurant. I go for the Chicken Rice while the rest of my family thoroughly approve of the Nasi Lemak!
O. V.
Service a little slow...food flavors, good...interesting dishes....Rendang good but I make it better at home....i might be just used to my cooking 😊😊😁...we went at 3pm and by the time we left there was already a line of 10 people waiting outside.
Popular place I guess
C. K.
Had fried rice w lamb and spices. Really good food at reasonable prices, just off the main passageways through Chinatown.
Well worth the visit!
C. T.
Hidden down this side street in London's Chinatown, C&R is my go to for Hainanese Chicken Rice in the UK! It hasn't failed me yet!
Just a heads up - they won't seat you until your entire group has arrived!
A. S.
Good food but not friendly service. It is a shame because the food is very good. It is okay to smile to a customer.... The food comes very quickly so it is not a place to spend time in. It is a quick in and out.
C. Y.
Food is great with good portion. Would definitely recommend to anyone who craves Asian food back home or , anyone who wants to try the best authentic Asian meal.
A. D.
Food is always delicious and comforting.
A. A.
Malaysian halal diner in soho.
Pro’s

Fantastic restaurant, authentic Malaysian food, char kway teow is very good, all the things on the menu here are good, a few visits would be required to try them all, the staff are efficient considering the amount of customers, I think they should try to expand to a second outlet, it would double there business as the food would bring the customers

Good value, pretty authentic and good portion sizes. I don't understand all the negative reviews, service is never going to be silver service at these kinds of places but it was by no means bad; the staff were friendly enough, efficient and not rude at all, just perhaps a bit blunt. Would definitely recommend.

I love the food here. It is so fresh and the service is excellent as well.
A very varied menu with something for everyone
Great prices
Very clean as well

Love the food!! They have the best laksa and roti canai I've had in London
H. Q. L.
Big portion with reasonable price, fast service.

The Penang laksa is really good! Sour, spicy and full of taste! I recommend also roti chanai and fish balls as starters!
D. S.
The Wat Tan Hor is pretty authentic, replete with wok hei, that elusive smell of the wok which emanates through the dish. Servings are pretty sizeable and it's always nice to have a place to visit which reminds me of home!
B. H.
Faultless food, efficient service. Just tremendous. The prawn laksa is one of the best dishes of food in London. Prices extremely reasonable
C. L.
Had been to C&R a couple of times now, also with friends from Singapore, and every single time we left this place happy. Char kway teow, Singapore laksa and Nasi lemak are very good.. and affordable.
K. C.
You have to order the right stuff. Teh tarik is good, so is the lo bak, chicken satay. Mee siam not so great portions are big by the way.
T. S.
Very tasty food, hidden away from the bustle of the main roads.

Authentic cuisine of Malaysian food, recommended by my friends. We have been there for three times and it never fail our expectations
A. C.
Good quality food served fast. If you're looking for some great Asian food and don't want to spend much or want quick service then C&R is the place for you. Hidden off the main road, it's an adventure walking through London China town to find it.
D. L.
Pretty good Malaysian and Chinese food at a decent price. Slightly uncomfortable seating. The venue of this place is not obvious as it is hidden in an alley
A. T.
Great Malaysian food at reasonable prices. Great value for money. Large selection on the menu.
m. l.
Most Malaysian style cooking. Good selection of dishes but nothing exciting.
Good service.

Great little place, amazing food i have to say
N. P.
Good food at affordable prices. Recommend the laksa and the salted fish fried rice
A. C.
My food was tasty and the service was good, but my entree came out cold. Had to pay extra for rice. Prices were okay.
P. E.
Good place to come for fairly authentic Malaysian dishes. Very large portions and a reasonable price.

Nice Malaysian or Singapore restaurant.
A. E.
This place has been a regular haunt for me for at least ten years! The food is always delicious and the staff are great. Good value too.

Food OK, quite simple. Singaporean laksa was good. The service was pretty efficient given the cantine style of the place.

One of my favourite restaurants at London China town, good quality food, afordable prices, healthy dishes, their Roti Canai is very good, fish recipes are incredible, best Malysian food in town for sure

The food was mainly Malaysian and really delicious. I was so hungry I forgot to take a picture of the meal I was having! Will go back again
B. H.
Nice big portions. I’d recommend the laksa. Standard Malaysian food but nothing mind blowing.
A. I.
Absolutely fantastic very reasonably priced food. Huge menu. Lots of choice. Beef Rendang, Laksa are both AMAZING :)
J.
Nasi lemak and fried singapore noodles (actually singaporean hokkien mee but missing the taste of prawns) were pretty good (relative to what you can find in London)
C. C. S.
I would give it 6 stars if I could. The problem with this restaurant is that it’s too awesome, all the food is delicious and cheap. Service is great. I cannot recommended this place enough.
L. L.
As authentic as Malaysian gets in London! Always enjoy the Singaporean Laksa, the Beef Rendang, and the Wat Tan Ho.
R. L. L.
9£ each soup (very big ones)
G. C.
Food OK, price OK too. Nothing exceptional, but in terms of quality to price ratio, it's a reasonable choice. For those who complain about service, Id say forget service, it is certainly not a place you come for a quality service.
L.
Authentic and delicious food! Definitely recommend!
T. C.
Good food and good portions, the singapore laksa is very nice, can get crowded and you may be shifted upstairs or to the little area across the street

CNR has been my go to place for cheap eats and quality Malaysian food in London for many years. I love their roti chanai.
A. B.
Authentic Malaysian food which is hard to find in London. Great menu with nice selection of dishes
A. C.
Delicious laksa, quick serve & great ambiance.however we waited for 30 minutes to get a table.
P. H.
Best in town. Not keen one one dish ( first time in C&R) kind enough to give me a 2nd dish choice on the house....which was delicious 😁
J. L.
Wat Tan Ho - - - the best I've ever had. To die for.... Also, one of the most authentic Malaysia restaurants and affordable too.
J. R.
Big portions at affordable prices. The staff didn't want us to stay very long though and made it clear when it was time to go, which was fair as it was just before Christmas and they wanted to go home..
Z. O.
Great restaurant with wide food choices from Singapore, Malaysia and Thai. Their drinks are fantastic, especially the teh tarik!
K. P.
Amazing Malaysian food served fresh! One of my best, although Rasa Sayang beats it by a tad!
F. T.
Fairly standard Chinatown joint. Had the Hainan chicken rice which tasted good but was nothing out of the ordinary. Overall, 6/10
D. H.
Was craving a Singaporean Laksa while I was visiting London. C & R hit the spot with a tasty laksa, exactly what I needed.
N. K.
Consistently excellent food and quick service. Everything on the menu looks tempting and everything I ever eat is delicious. Can't recommend enough
J. B.
Fantastic authentic malaysian / indo / singaporian food in a clean and modern restorant. Would definately eat here again if im in london
F. R.
Nasi goreng kampong was lacking shrimp paste 😕 . I was missing this dish and the one there was alright but it just wasn't the same, you know?
V. W.
Malaysian food at very reasonable price. I had Nasi Lemak and Char Q Tiao - authentic taste.
Z. P.
Fantastic curry laksa, highly recommended! One of the, if not the best curry laksa in London.
Food is very reasonably priced and the service was good.
J. R.
Great meal with friendly, welcoming staff. Big filling healthy portions at good prices. And a nice atmosphere!
C. H.
Good food and decent prices! Service is very good too, orders come pretty fast! Very friendly waitresses as well!
B. B.
Fantastic authentic Malaysian food at the heart of Soho. You may have to queue, but it's worth it.
k. l.
Ok Malaysian restaurant.
H. F.
Cheap and cheerful gem! Tasty food at a good price. Sometimes a bit cramped but this isn't a big issue.
v. T.
Hidden on one of the side street in Chinatown, food taste amazing. Definitely authentic Malaysian food.
C.
Off track but well worth a visit. Try the salads especially the Thai one with papaya. Good food and reasonable prices
a. h.
Been here few times. Foods are good, service is fast, and reasonable price
M. T.
Had chicken rice, papaya salad and lamb goreng rice, which were all amazing.
R. C.
This is one of my regular haunts in Chinatown - excellent Hainanese Chicken Rice and Beef Randang - both dishes hard to make at home - relatively new but still rather old-school
S. B.
Amazing food and great service! I had Thai food in a Malaysian restaurant but was awesome!?
R. S.
Always love the food here. Very tasty and also at affordable prices! Great service from the staff member
B. P.
Fast and quick service,
Tasty food!

For 15 plus years it's a staple on a visit to London. This place is a reason to come to London on its own. A great menu, great staff and recently refurbished it's even more awesome.
B. H.
Excellent food not bad price for central London. This is a place to eat good food then leave not a place for ambiance or sitting chatting and does not pretend to be anything else.
R. H.
Service a bit slow, we had a table for 6 and all meals arrived at different times. Quality of food good
J. S.
Very casual eatery, amazing value for money. Service is a bit rushed but it has a lively atmosphere and the food tastes great.
G. H.
Great Malaysian restaurant - helpful staff. Very popular. Quick service but not rushed.
