Reviews of Daffodil Mulligan
O. S.
First time visiting this establishment..
Do not expect High Cuisine but a Small Plates menu being served in the main restaurant located on the ground floor.
The establishment is located over two floors.
The basement floor has the pub/bar dedicated for drinkers and which also hosts Live Music.
The main ground floor restaurant is quite spacious with an Open Kitchen area and fairly utilitarian seating and table's.
The menu is mainly European small Plates which was a little surprising as it is a predominantly Irish Themed establishment and bar.
We had the Tasting Menu which was reasonable.
The staff were very attentive and friendly and welcoming.
A good.place to.meet friends for drinks and perhaps a meal.
T. S.
The food and drinks were good and the staff was friendly. We tried some delicious dishes, but they were quite overpriced and not quite that impressive. Overall it was a nice experience, but I’m not sure I’d go again.
E. H.
LOVED it! Had 5 small plates between 2 of us, pigs cheeks were fabulous. Desserts were sublime. Cocktails were also delicious. The staff are engaging, knowledgeable and downright lovely. Highly recommend and I'll defo be back soon.
T. D.
Had the best time when we visited for our anniversary. The staff went out of their way to make it special for us. The atmosphere is relaxed and the food is varied, adventurous and high quality. We chose to sample a whole lot of small plates but their full meals looked tempting too. You must try the olive oil ice cream. We will definitely be back!

Love love love this restaurant. The menu is thoughtful & playful, with a combination of small plates & 5-7 large plate options.
The whipped chicken liver parfait with parmesan & burnt apple is ridiculously good.
The fried chicken has a nice little kick to it.
The pork in the large dish section is sublime - sweet & salty, with a yummy prawn roll & slaw underneath.
And most of all, the staff is amazing. Clio, 1 of the supervisors, made the meal for us! Hilarious, helpful & super friendly.
There's an amazing bar downstairs too! Totally different vibe, but equally cool.

Been here for dinner before and this time came for brunch. Not only is the food incredible but the service, friendliness and helpful manner of the staff is exemplary. We had a baby with us and they helped with high chair, baby safe snacks and just went above and beyond throughout our whole meal. They do a free flowing margarita option for brunch and I would highly recommend. Every margarita option an absolute delight! There was also love music which was such a treat for a Saturday morning. Will be coming back soon for sure. A x

After almost freezing to death in the city of London, unexpectedly me and my mate came across this place on a busy night out.
We were surprised by how nice it was on the inside and how good the dishes looked, so we decided to eat as well as drink.
The food was really nice! and the service was even better!
Thank you to Iryna who gave us a great recommendation for the menu.
Overall the entire staff was great and the food was on point! Will definitely look forward to coming back with other friends.
B. O.
Great food and excellent service. The waitress comp-ed a glass of wine for us very generously because it was a tad delayed coming out (I hadn't even noticed!). The stand out dishes for us were the fried chicken and the liver parfait.
D. D.
Great feeling to be back at a Lovely and superbly well staffed restaurant as Daffodil Mulligan. The Manager Irene is Ace!
The food is delicious!
Great take on the Squid, must try!
Oysters to start always goes down well.
A bit more off the website
A restaurant with basement bar Gibney’s in the heart of Shoreditch is the ultimate destination for dining, drinking and live music. It embodies the heart, soul and mischief of the Irish, but with international food influences.
Daffodil Mulligan is the name of the daughter of Biddy Mulligan - a legendary Irish street seller, who was immortalised in the song “Biddy Mulligan the Pride of the Coombe”. Daffodil herself has also inspired her own song by Dublin folk band Lankum. The restaurant’s identity articulates her spirit and retains an earthy, individual aesthetic.

The food, service, and drinks selection were all great and the atmosphere was really relaxed. We opted for ~7 small plates between the two of us, which was way too much, but we managed okay. Favorites were the salt chili friend chicken, squid with chorizo and mussels, and smoked butter mashed potatoes. No complaints at all and we will be back.
M. L.
Probably the best food I’ve had all year: highlights for me were the soused and torched mackerel (probably the best mackerel i’ve ever had) and the chips with smoky flavour.
G. W.
Quality ingredients treated with respect.
Hospitality in spades. Raw bar and a wood-burning oven. Small plates plus mains with three types of British oysters, mussels, cockles and clams. Lamb chops, grilled whole mackerel. All expertly prepared. Excellent ales and wines. Very knowledgeable servers. What a treat to not get the same, tired old ‘British Menu’. Worth every penny and then some. See pics for course descriptions.

Been here twice now - both times top quality - The food is packed with flavour - the menu is diverse, wide selection of drinks - staff are really friendly and knowledgable - great service - and downstairs is nice and lively
J. S.
A five star meal. Fantastically executed food with every dish. There were no dud notes apart from not having Irish oysters which as an Irish restaurant I was disappointed they didn't have. The beef tartare, chilli chicken and chicken liver parfait are all musts. The snacks and small plates menu all sounded incredible and would be great to come with a big group of friends and share everything!
The bacon collar, although not a looker was so tender and juicy and was my stand out dish. Highly recommended
Y. B.
Great food, exceptional service! We had a variety of small plates and they were all delicious, especially the beef short rib & tuna tartare. Served by Irina who’s one of the best waitress we’ve ever met. She went above and beyond, and made our meal comfortable and enjoyable. Thank you, Irina!
J. D.
Excellent, but also very expensive...! The mash potato in particular was amazing and frankly, everything was great but ,you can't really go there for less than £100 / person (in my opinion).
N. F.
We had a fantastic meal here. The food was excellent. It’s bold and brash. There’s nothing subtle about it, but in a good way.
The crispy chicken starter is divine, with moist thigh with a spicy sauce. The steak tartare with anchovy cream (pictured) is a delight - it’s a brilliant twist on a classic.
The mains were equally good, with a massive portion of gurnard cooked to perfection and some decadent pork. They were complemented by some outrageous mash and some gutsy cavalo nero.
They were very late in seating us, despite our booking, but they were hugely apologetic and we were surprised by how many of the drinks were taken off the bill as compensation.
We’ll be back!

I went to the Daffodil Mulligan, because I was lucky enough to have had £100 in expenses, from work, to use up. It is more upmarket and expensive than places I would normally go to, but it was a great experience. It is a short walk from Old Street Station, in London. We had smoked mackerel for a starter, pork and chips for the main, and I think a chocolate torte for pudding. Washed down with 3 pints of Guinness each! We then went to Gibney's Bar, below, and had a few more Guinnesses. There were about 5 chefs standing at one end of the restaurant, cooking the food, in front of us, and a young man sitting at the other end, providing live music for the first hour and a half. The food was consistently excellent - especially the main course, where we had really delicious mashed potato as a side dish. With hindsight, I would've had the greens as another side dish. Impeccable, professional service. Could've been a tad warmer for me: I had my back to the window. But a really successful occasion, that I would definitely do again, but, 'my oh my', not too often: very expensive, if you didn't have a £100 expenses buffer in your back pocket!😉
A. K.
Wow wow wow.
Unique taste and cooked perfection in a gorgeous outside seating area.
Some of the best food I’ve had in a very long time.
Worth it!!
Will definitely be back!
S. K.
Really tasty food! They should make the mash mandatorily served with the sugar pit pork. Nothing else matched up to the lofty heights of the pork, so salty and soft. Lovely service, we were late but we’re still welcomed to stay for the whole length of our slot so thank you.
O. B.
Excellent food. We had the pleasure of meeting Richard Corrigan, chef and owner, who took care of every single aspect of our meal - from food to service. The steak was cooked to perfection and was beyond delicious.
C. L.
The menu is divided into small and large plates. We shared about 7 of the small dishes, because they were so exciting looking. Everything was fantastic - not a dud dish among them. The cooking is superb and the ingredients lovely, and the staff are very friendly and attentive. Fried chicken, pigs cheeks in chip shop curry sauce, black pudding croquette were stand-outs. Not sure why it's not more popular - maybe Old Street Roundabout is a no-man's-land; not quite the City, not quite Shoreditch. However this is a destination restaurant. We'll be back to make our way through some of the main courses very soon.
J. m.
Great food and service. We really enjoyed everything including the sourdough bread as well as the butter which was actually a highlight. I recommend the pork cheek, fig dessert and jalapeño margarita... a must!
C. G.
Really cool vibe, excellent food and friendly service. Highly recommend! Great spot for a date night or catch up with friends!
A. R.
Fantastic food. Every single dish was perfect, we will most definitely go again (soon!).
Update - we've since returned two more times within 2 months, and I wish I could give 6 stars. Food and service are both outright exceptional.
M. L.
Had a lovely evening. The staff were all very friendly and took the time to ask you hot your day was. I loved the soda bread they gave as a little starter and they had a good number of vegan options for me. Everything tasted exquisite. My only regret was not having more options for red wine. Would have paid for a nice one by the glass but the options were mostly so-so. Would come back either way!
G.
Fantastic food and service. Very hard to point to any way in which this place could improve. Flawless.
S. E.
This place simply knows how to serve their clients. Consistently with a very friendly mindset. The food is affordably priced, regularly flavorful and neat.

I celebrated my birthday this evening in this delicious restaurant. Well it was a brilliant evening and the place was no doubt one of the reasons for this fruitful gathering. The crew helped in a sweet style, the cuisine was great and my buddies were extremely overjoyed. We shall definitely return for more joyful events. thanks very much.

We went back for dinner at DM last month, after long months of lockdown, and it remains the gem it ever was. A perfectly pitched menu, small plates executed to an excellent standard, full of fun deep, rich flavours, a cracking drinks list, and outstanding service, friendly and helpful -- really appreciated the recommendation of a Cork apple spirit when I asked for a Calvados. In a word, great craic -- and that's surely the point of it all.
N. M.
Loved the elaborate menu. We had a nice cocktail and chips! Highly recommend!
J. B.
Fantastic food, drink and atmosphere. Will come back again many times no doubt.
I. T.
Very good food. Service fairly attentive but a pretty cold. No goodbye (even though we accidentally left by the wrong door, and ended up leaving right in front of them). Makes a big difference if you're in the area with a view of the chefs doing their thing. The 'bottom' of the restaurant is out of sight of this and tbh felt a bit like a glorified corridor.
K. S.
Went for a Christmas lunch. Food was amazing. We shared some bowl food then had a main course each. Fish was gorgeous. There is a bar downstairs so we moved in to a booth and had more drinks. A live band turned up and we all pretended we could Irish dance. Great night. I would go back tomorrow. Highly recommended. Top notch
J. B.
Lovely staff took our order early. Soused herring was "maybe one of the best things I've ever eaten" says my partner. Everything was delicious. Beautiful ambience. Would recommend to anybody, particularly those looking for small seafood plates.
C. H.
What a wonderful surprise this place was. Food is very good. Chef's choice menu was a perfect amount of food. The recommended wine was also very nice. The Mackerel and the Pork belly were highlights for me. Downstairs bar was a top night. Amazing staff, great cocktails. The Gibney's stout is really nice too. I will return. Great start everyone! I think this place will do really well.
R. J.
Really liked the food here. Simple menu with some specials on the board. Food was fantastic (particularly liked the spicy chicken starter and the chocolate mouse desert) and on top of that the staff were all happy, engaged and seemed to like working there. I would love to return and try more of the menu.
Pub downstairs looked great too!
G. S.
3.5 stars. Some of it was great, some was poor for the price. Took the £75 tasting menu with 3 others. Oysters were great, our sole was fantastic, but it was very overcooked for others. Game Wellington as well, mine was cooked well, but others were overdone. Tasted great though. You'd expect better consistency at this level of cooking.

Fantastic experience as always, with friendly staff and delicious food!

Amazing small plates! Had really good time ☺️

Visited Daffy’s for the first time today for the start of the six nations - the bar downstairs was great fun and has a proper screen for watching the rugby! The staff behind the bar are even Irish and this adds to an already amazing Irish atmosphere!
We decided to eat upstairs in the restaurant and honestly after 14 months living in London it was hands down the best food I’ve had in London, however, it was a little pricey for the portion size.
Will definitely go back to both bar and restaurant!!

Visited on a busy Friday night when Richard himself and his business partners (and at least one critic) were in. Our table was at the end with the high bar stools which weren’t wildly comfy unless you are over 6 foot tall. Food was great- service was a bit haphazard- some sides arrived before mains, others barely at all having been given to another table but all mistakes were rectified in the end.
Excellent food and once the team bed in I’m sure the service will match.
T. W.
Thomas looked after us really well and the live band was fantastic
S.
We had a great dinner last evening. The food was very very good but the service exceptional, very warm and informal.
L. S.
What an exceptional meal. I couldn't recommend Daffodil Mulligan enough. Richard is flying about the place turning the restaurant into your favourite family meal. Except every dish is so well thought out. Everything so well balanced. I can't wait to come back here. He has Colin Kelly previously of Picture Restaurant in the kitchen and between them I couldn't fault a thing.
T. L.
Phenomenal experience, true and hearty. Food with unbeatable and truly delicious flavours, a Beautiful open kitchen to see the action, warm and friendly service every step of the way. The attitude of all was nothing but pure love for their craft. Thank you, I will definitely return.
s.
Inspired food and exemplary wine list, not too voluminous and with great choices at reasonable prices. We were 5 so we could sample many of Richard Corrigan’s excellent small dishes. Definitely the way to start. All the mains were foods to be remembered.
A. S.
Food was ok, when cooked well it was delicious (we have the taster menu). But the service was not ideal. They forgot our drinks, laid half of the plates down and then had a chat before laying down the other two, and generally just not very professional. Shame as the Time Out review was good...
S. I.
Great food, warm reception and a good meal that wasn't rushed or pushed of the table. Yer man himself was there working hard and chatting to everyone. A lovely surprise at the now soulless old street roundabout. The live music in the basement bar was an added bonus.
G. S.
The food is astonishingly good, my partner had the lobster whilst I had the tiger prawn goan curry. Service from Deborah was exceptional and we will certainly be coming back.
C.
Friendly staff, great food. The tartare is excellent!
M. M.
Staff here were incredibly attentive, was very impressed. Food was generally excellent. Couple of dishes which weren’t quite as good as others but some which were incredibly tasty. Would definitely recommend to others.
L. C.
Cozy, comfy and stylish!!! Really appreciated Harry’s service! Absolutely loved it!
R. N.
Great selection of dishes and drinks. Awesome staff that make you feel very welcome, would highly recommend.
S. G.
A mixed bag -
Some outstanding dishes; steak tartare, liver parfait, sirloin steak
Some mediocre to poor dishes - collar of bacon, crubeen, desserts (we tried 3) were extremely unbalanced flavours - would skip this course entirely
The rhubarb iced tea is a good choice for a soft drink and their still water is truly delicious
The chef also seemed to visit every table but ours. This threw my fellow Level 5 Google Local Guide, Mowg, into an extremely, extremely mild rage. Check out his review for a very emotional, non-food focussed review of the evening.
Choose wisely and you could have a very good meal
c. d.
Staff great. Food good but expensive all round.
K. B.
Amazing long leisurely lunch at this great establishment. Food was exquisite and great value for money, service was fun and attentive and Richard Corrigan himself was an amazing host. Daffodil Mulligan is a great new addition to London and I’ll definitely be back.

Fantastic place. Debora runs a great place and is very congenial. The chocolate dessert is delicious as are all the dishes.

Great food and drink, excellent service. I'd give it 5 stars but for the very small side dishes.
C. C.
Initially I was unsure what to expect from the sightly eclectic menu. Thankfully the food was superb and the staff very friendly. I will be going back for sure.
T. W.
Great that this restaurant and the downstairs bar have reopened. Stopped by for a pint of excellent creamy Guinness. They lose a star for charging £5.70 a pint. Ouch.
E. J.
Excellent food and service but please please turn the music down. It was in danger of completely ruining our experience. Hope you can as we’d love to return.
