Delaterra - “from the land”. A cafe? Bar? Tapas restaurant? It’s all of them and more. It’s a labour of love by Ovidi, a charming Spaniard who not only makes everything in house, but even built the cosy interior himself. The service is warm and friendly, and the Spanish food and coffees are delicious. Heartily recommended.

Fantastic place! Cannot recommend them enough. When we first arrived, we were greeted by the owner who was extremely welcoming. We bought two drinks and in the time that we were there, he offered us some free sweet and savoury tapas. He even gave us some delicious free slices of a sweet olive oil, brown sugar and rosemary sourdough to take home. The food we tried was absolutely delicious and the drinks were really lovely too. Very vegan and vegetarian friendly too. We'll be back again next week. Only a few minutes down from Essex road station and a 5-6 minute walk away from Upper Street. Forget all the chains around. Don't hesitate to visit this gem! You will not be disappointed.

This place is amazing! I had baked eggs & chorizo which gets 10/10 for sure. Also had a sample of the orange cake he'd just taken out of the oven and it was perfect - especially with a drizzle of the homemade raspberry sauce. Absolutely lovely guy, incredibly good food. Delaterra is a wonderful little oasis for lots of reasons. The menu is Spanish food beautifully cooked, the desserts are so flavourful, the location has a great atmosphere, and Ovidi is the perfect host. He prepares everything from his own painstaking recipes. Probably London’s best coffee too. Plus he is sourcing great Spanish wine and Belgian draft beer should be available soon!! My partner and I were looking for a place to have brunch which could offer more than scrambled eggs and avocado for an extortionate price and my oh my we’re so happy to have found this little place! Super friendly owner, coffee was delicious and the brunch food (bakes eggs with chorizo and black pudding with quail’s eggs didn’t disappoint either. I don’t normally eat black pudding and it was one of the best ones I’ve ever tried!!! Cannot fault this place.

This is another one of the hidden gems! It is really small and the vibe is so warm and cosy, the ambience is one of the strong points. The coffee is also very good! One of the best things was the service... we asked for the brownie to be heated a little bit and the guy gave us to try some in room temperature to make sure if we still preferred it warmed up or not! Ovidi, the owner, brings a passion and intense care to every aspect of this intimate restaurant and café. I've had most dishes on the menu, tried many of the wines, and always come away feeling gratitude and joy for Ovidi's gift to Islington. Whether you simply want a perfect coffee or one of the finest meals in London, I cannot recommend Delatera highly enough. PS: the black pudding, the squid, and the toast with salmon are literally perfect dishes.

Brilliant! Everything about it. The menu is rich, place is gorgeous and all hand made by the owner, pleasant and friendly staff. Food was great and we even got some soup as a starter! Delicious open sandwiches (or “toasts” as they are on the menu). All of them are to die for - great flavors. The juice is delicious too. Really friendly guy. Everything is made up from scratch so not one for if you’re in a real rush, but well worth the wait.

I wanted some brunch and I was on a budget, so I enter what looks like a coffee shop from outside but there was no name on the building. I ask the guy there, who turns out to be the owner if the place has a name. He says that not yet, as he needs to pay for advertisement and he is just started the place. I had a vegan plate with lovely veggies and a piece of his amazing sourdough bread with a thin layer of tomatoes on top. Everything was amazing, the bread was fresh with such an amazing flavour. He told me all about his sourdough. Then he told me the story of his family sourdough which lasted 7 years and had an amazing flavour. The ferment died as one of the members of his family placed the sourdough next to the heater. Ovidi is amazing company and cooks everything for scrach. He pours his heart in his cooking and cares deeply about his customers

Oviedo is the sweetest! Takes pride in making everything himself from quality ingredients -- and even building the whole shop himself from recycled materials. A generous host and a kind person to talk to at the counter -- try the orange cake with chocolate frosting! Just like biting into a fresh orange -- everything made from scratch. Highly recommend.

Ovidi is such a warm host. I am a vegetarian and a fussy vegetarian! Oviedo gave me number of options and based on my taste, customized a toast for me. Not to miss, when I asked for a hot chocolate, there was some left in the container and very politely he said, "Once you finish this cup, there is more for you". This shows that he doesn't believe in cutting corners. Very good to talk to and his home made bread is superb. FYI: You can place an order for a loaf of bread for you to take home as well. Taste wise, its on point and if you are someone who loves cosy places for your tea/coffee, then this is the place for you my dear friend.

It's a work in progress. They have only been open for 3 months, there is no sign out front and an exposed backroom. All of those are forgivable because of the extremely nice owner and his imported Spanish cuisine. The room is quite cozy. Current menu is in the pictures.
