Reviews of Don Francisco Y La Luna
M. O.
We had an amazing Sunday lunch. Even though we just walked in without reservation we were able to get a table. The stand out fish was the seafood share board. It consisted of fresh, delicious seafood. We had mussels, jumbo prawns , octopus, sea bass, squid and small potatoes with salad. I loved every bite .
E. P.
What a fantastic place. The food is very good and the atmosphere is quiet and relaxing. The toilets are clean and tidy. The food is delicious but be careful with the portion. The tapas are quite big so take that to account when you are ordering. We are going back for sure. Good quality food at a reasonable price. What a gem in St James Street. Close to the station so easy to reach.
C. R.
Don Francisco Y La Luna is a tapas style restaurant which manages to capture the bar that does tapas atmosphere even though its set up as a restaurant.
As with all tapas restaurants one has little idea how much to order, its easy to think tapas are small dishes and order too much but at Don Franciso Y La Luna three delicious dishes from the day's specials and some croquettas were more than enough for two.
The staff are nicely attentive, there when you need them not "is everything OK can I get you something else" every 5 minutes so you can eat at to your own schedule.
Overall this is a very pleasant place to eat, colourful and comfortable relaxing and tasty.
J. T.
Absolutely delicious tapas and wine in a rrallybpovely setting. Excellent service too and great for my daughters too who is 6. Will defo go back. Star of the show was the aubergine and honey! And my fellow eaters raved about the octopus!
K. S.
Had a truly delicious meal last night with lovely friends. Food was amazing. Service fantastic and the wine was beautiful. 10 out of 10.
S. L.
Everything we ate here was delicious.... The Anchovies, olives, tuna and pickled peppers are taste explosions.. Try the Squid in black ink. The pork cheeks melt in your mouth , the aioli is divine. The atmosphere isn't affected by social distancing which is superb. Looking forward to going back!
S. G.
A nice birthday lunch for other half, though he was disappointed that the waitress wasn’t Spanish. And the morcillia was questionable. Apart from that and delivery guy coming through the restaurant the food was very good.
a. g.
Lovely local tapas restaurant with excellent service and good food. Drinks were also great. I loved the padron peppers and my meat eating parents were very impressed with the pork cheeks and croquetas. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area and reasonably priced too.
E. S.
Excellent customer service, attentive blond hair waitress deserves special recognition-the sweetest and the most attentive! Coming with blankets was caring and touching gesture! Delicious tapas!
M. “. O. K.
Great food in a relaxed and welcoming environment. The octopus ceviche was infinitely better than the cooked version (which was still delicious). Fills up quick so don't go too late if you're hungry.
E. F.
Its the grotty end of Walthamstow High Street, surrounded by all sorts of odd cafés, but this is a lovely little spot - nicely decorated, buzzy and with great tapas and service. Better than Orford Road Tapas IMO. Will definitely go again.
K. F.
Very nice atmosphere. Incredibly friendly staff and everything is delicious
A. P.
Lovely place to eat. Food is very delicious and staff is very friendly and professional. Been there couple times already and tryed different meals. Would recommend. 10/10
H. P.
Seriously good food and lovely relaxed atmosphere. And responsibly priced...we stopped in to get out of the rain and ended up trying a few tapas. Coming again for dinner!
A. F.
Had a lovely dinner there. Staff was very nice. The menu has a lot of various wines, I tried two different and both were absolutely amazing. Probably the best red in Walthamstow. Tapas were nice as well and portions were not too small comparing to what I have imagined. The decor of the place is nice and modern and the restaurant feels rather spacious. Will be definitely back again
J. E.
This is a popular local restaurant so we were lucky to get in without a reservation this evening. We were happy to wait a few minutes and it was worth it. Really friendly staff, excellent value house wine and delicious food. Recommended.
M. L.
This Spanish place in the heart of Walthamstow is a very cosy special restaurant to have a lovely dinner, lunch or just hace a beer
R. S.
Excellent! Loved it! Had a great family dinner here.
A. G.
Great selection, delicious food and polite staff, very good value. Best tapas in Walthamstow.
D. P.
First time here yesterday, well worth all the amazing reviews it already has! Great food, nice staff and good service. Also has a good liqueurs and spirits menu, with a stack of Spanish ones.
Will be visiting here again.
B. F.
We came with my husband on Saturday and the service was awesome. From seating to drinks and food, It was absolutely delicious. We were dreaming to have traditional Spanish food for so long. Thank you to all, who make our time there amazing.
A. R.
I asked for “huevos rotos” and “pote de garbanzos”, two immensely popular tapas I miss from home.
Then I heard the waiter ranting “he ordered the chickpeas, why would he order the chickpeas??...” Ugh. Later on he says it will take a while, and goes back at it “of course he is OK with it, you order the chickpeas what do you expect? ...” It was 2pm.
Actually it’s my fault too for ordering after presented with such a long menu. You can’t possibly serve home cook chickpeas if you didn’t prepare them first. It’s better to focus on a few great dishes. Long menus just don’t make sense.
Sticky table, unwelcoming background chat. The huevos rotos were great, try the mashed variety for the novelty.
Z. D.
Food here was delicious, very reasonable prices and a straightforward but atmospheric interior. One waitress in particular was really attentive and friendly. In the summer, they have seats outside which was really nice.
L. _.
I visited Don Francisco a week or so ago for a birthday. Perfect service and had a great time sat outside, despite the pouring rain. Felt like we were on holiday, it is really worth a visit. Highly recommend the chorizo and the seafood platter. Thanks Don Francisco!
E. C.
Lovely restaurant with delicious food. Fabulous service and very welcoming.
M. C.
Great food and services and taking great steps to keep staff and customers safe during this pandemic
H. M.
We where out for a girls night and wanted to try some fancier dining rather than pub food. We tried this nice Spanish restaurant and, what can I say.... we hit the jackpot on this one. The atmosphere is fantastic, with customer oriented waiting staff, mouth watering food reasonably priced. This is a true gem located in the heart of Walthamstow. We will be back soon! 5*
J. S.
Great food and lovely service, would recommend.
E. A.
Lovely food and very friendly service. I have eaten here many times and always really enjoyed it.
s. r.
would have been nice if gloves and wet wipes were provided with our Black Rice, to avoid the mess. Taste wise was good, although it felt quite salty towards the end.
A. T.
The only disapointing thing about this place is the luck of choice/variety of desert menu. For a regular customer like ourselves it is..... well.... annoying.
K. Z.
Just love that place - friendly staff and amazing food. One of the best lamb chops I have ever had.
D. S.
Delicious food! Really lovely staff, just very slow because so busy. Cute little heated outside space.
T. S.
Great food and generous tapas portions. Be prepared that as certain dishes take longer to cook so you might have to wait a bit but it'll be worth it...
D. E.
Try the honey aubergine. The owner is so friendly! Will be back, dog-friendly
I. B.
I went with children aged 3, 7 and 9 for lunch, and although it is definitely aimed at grown-up eating, the staff were very helpful and attentive to all ages. We had a range of tapas, that were all pretty good, and the more substantial dishes other people were eating looked great too. It was a good way to introduce kids to some new flavours. Overall, it was a little expensive for us, given we are a family of five, but the soft drinks were excellent value. Definitely give it a try, but be prepared to fork out a bit if you want to really eat a good meal.
J. M.
Nice experience in general but they forgot some of our food and were quite blunt and unapologetic in their refusal to tell us which of our croquettes were which. I'm vegetarian and so we had to dissect each one on the sharing platter we'd ordered, something the waitress seemed to think was unreasonable of us to care about
S. K.
This is our default eating out treat and great for group eating as every dietary need is catered for. The service is excellent and there is always something new to find on a menu which is clearly a labour of love.
G. B.
Lovely place, very good tapas. Stuffed peppers were delicious as it was the seafood board. Looking forward to come back! The lovely waitress made us feel very welcome
P. E.
The place serves stunning food. Friendly staff, lovely atmosphere, great value for money. So lucky to live right next to it. Will keep coming back again and again
S. B.
Aunthentic, lovely, well presented food. Eager staff. Tastefully decorated space, made for an all round enjoyable experience. Would definitely recommend and go again. Not usually impressed with Tapas in Britain. This was altogether different, very good indeed.
P. S.
Amazing food and great service. Practically tried everything on the menu and could barely move at the end of the meal, but still could've squeezed in more if it was there! You must go.... Seriously, don't wait.. Do it. Do it now!
L. M.
We had seafood and it was very good and tasty. The service could have been a bit faster but overall it was a good experience and we'll definitely go back.
E. M.
Every neighbourhood should have at least one good restaurant and Don Francisco Y Luna flies the flag for St. James. A party of four of us went on a Saturday night and found a busy restaurant full of people clearly enjoying themselves. There's a fine selection of Tapas to choose from, very good wine list and friendly staff. Most importantly all nine dishes we chose were excellent which you rarely find anywhere. Delicious deserts left all four of us happy and looking forward to our next visit.
S. F.
Gorgeous Spanish tapas restaurant that took over in the spot of the much missed and beloved Portuguese tapas of The Windmill. This is very different. More contemporary, they've done the older up beautifully, and yet it still feels comfortable. The food is delicious. Particularly the Iberian pork cheeks and mash. Everything we had was fantastic, and very reasonably priced. We'll be back very soon.
A. P.
Quite nice food and service. Happy to have this place next of where we live. Tapas are quite tasty and the paella is fairly decent. Suggestion to improve the octopus cooking as it has been a bit underwhelming.
M. M.
Very nice place. Quick and friendly service. Charming design. Kids friendly. They have pencils and books for kids + baby changing facilities. Absolutely brilliant pork cheeks and quite nice lamb cutlets. Tried mini burgers as well, but didn't like them. Overall pleasant experience!
A. L.
Loved this place until they charged us too much - we asked for the £17 bottle (x2) and then when the bill came the man became quite defensive and said they didn’t have that £17 wine so they couldn’t give us that one anyway. Were somehow served £27 bottle (+£10 vs what we ordered). Interesting we weren’t told this until the bill came.
T. B.
Very good, tasty food with an affordable wine list. The baby octopus were light and crisp, the chorizo covered in a red wine sauce more like a spicy jam packed full of flavour. The pigs cheeks would be enough on their own for a light lunch. All served by very friendly welcoming staff not too obtrusive, in comfortable surroundings.
L. G.
One of the few places in Walthamstow taking the pandemic seriously by having the staff wear masks and visors, and distance the customers properly. I felt safe. But really the food is absolutely delicious.
J. W.
Amazing food and wine at a decent price. Excellent service. Will definitely come back!
A. F.
The food was delicious. The menu is just big enough. The service was impeccable. In fact, the food was so good at forgot to take photos. We had patatas bravas, pork cheeks, calamari, black pudding, asparagus, croquetta. All was brilliant. Will be back to eat the rest of the menu. Tip marks.
B.
Have been there on 5 different occasions so far over the past year with family, never disappointed with the food or service and there's a good range of dishes for all tastes. Nice relaxed atmosphere, prices are reasonable. I have no hesitation in recommending and will definitely be back when in the area.
K. D.
Great food but service was a little hit and miss, with one dish arriving 10-15 minutes after we'd finished everything else. Still had a very nice time and will be back.
R. A.
I'm sorry to say it wasn't great. Dry chicken, and limp squid, meatballs were tasty as we're the sardines. Staff were great so I hope the up there game on the food as it's great restaurant. Really hot in there last night, we had to pay and run out the door. I'd recommend the house white rioja as well.
J. T.
Very tasty Spanish food.
We ordered quite a lot here and I didn’t had anything that wasn’t good.
Some of the food wasn’t as authentic as you get it served in Spain, for example the Patatas Bravas, but they’ve been still super tasty in the way they prepared them.
The pulpo (a very critical component for me) was on point and super soft.
I can definitely recommend this place to anyone who loves spanish food, especially because they have some kind of twist in it, which makes it very interesting.
H. E.
Really pleasant evening and a welcome addition to this end of the market.
Pig cheek probably my favourite plate: fell apart in the mouth. lovely sheep’s cheese, and a very nicely cooked tortilla. Nothing bad about any of the food, in fact, although none of us were fighting over the chorizo and lentil.
Four of us ordered 8 plates, plus four desserts, and had six drinks - came to just shy of £100, which didn’t seem too bad. Will definitely come back.
Booking advisable on the weekends.
M. E.
Great Food, great prices. The food was very tasty. We ordered 5 dishes between 2 of us. Staff very obliging. I am planning to go back i the very near future.
V. O.
Very authentic Spanish restaurant! I think they really nailed it, just like in Spain. In my opinion it's the only restaurant in the area to concider, and after my first visit I'll be coming back on regular basis. I really hope others gets inspired and start doing what those guys are - amazing food for really good prices.
S. W.
Great food, excellent customer service and great atmosphere. I can really highly recommend this lovely restaurant.
J. X.

M. F.

Fantastic food, good wine selection. The tables are a bit small, especially when ordering lots of tapas, but the friendly and helpful staff kept things moving brilliantly. Highly recommended.

A. R.
The food is tasty, good quality and prices. I love going there when I have the chance. Highly recommended.
C. J.
One of Walthamstow's best restaurants. Great food, fairly priced. Gets really busy in the evenings so worth booking a table in advance - particularly if you're in a larger group
G. K.
very good seafood board at a very affordable price( just could be served hotter )
as menu states patron peppers are picked weekly and delivered straight from Spain, it must be truth to be honest as they tasted really fresh
V. G.
Great atmosphere with great tapas! Wine was good, too. Can't mention any negatives, even the staff were very attentive and friendly. Will be returning soon!
