Reviews of Gallery Cafe
L. S.
Nice stuff and a well range of choices, and all vegan! I had a turmeric latte which was very nice. As being in a old house and a gallery the bar looks unfurnished and cold, but during the summer you have a fantastic view of the garden and you can eat/drink in the garden as well. I'll try the breakfast for sure one day!
C. H.
Really welcoming fully vegan cafe and warm place with good vegan selection, teas, coffee and alcohol. Good little back garden for when the weather is right.
The food is really tasty, presented well and comes fairly quick! Would like a slightly bigger portion but other wise delicious.
B. S. (.
The special day was delicious, the cakes I would never guess we're vegan. The food service was a bit slow but worth the wait. The back garden is beautiful.
M.
Let me just say that today visit and quick fix food turned out to be quite epic for 2 reasons.
1. SIMONE SIMONE SIMONEEEEE!!! pr. SIMONAE Italian male name for The Gallery Manager who exponentially really really cheered me up. His energy alone is food for the Soul. I was feeling blu today so for the next point, lets just say Sunshine on a Plate!
2. COCONUT GREEN BEANS COCONUT WAS JUSY DELICIOUS and Perfectly balanced in taste texture, savoury and sweet and with the right amount of Heat chilly good

Found this GREAT cafe just by luck really, I needed somewhere that was both vegan and gluten free, really liked the atmosphere of the place, friendly staff, decent prices and sounds like they do a range of different wellbeing classes as part of the organisation including acupuncture. I had GF pancakes with mixed fruit compot snd coconut yogurt, soo nice!!
V. C.
The place is nice, the back garden is beautiful. We have been going here with our little daughter for years and we have loved it. However lately the quality of some food has dropped significantly. We can barely eat the banana cakes. The breakfast bowl couldn't be done with less care and it wasn't cheap. Since we love the place, we wish to go back if there will be more effort towards the quality of the food.
J. J.
Really good and creative vegan food. I'm not vegan but totally appreciate the uniqueness and vibe of this cafe. You won't regret a trip here.
D. N.
Amazing vegan food. Just come and try for yourself, you won't regret it! Ideal for a great brunch with friends. Try the vegan English breakfast if you get a chance, make sure not to come too late as it's so popular that it might be sold out shortly before brunch hours end...
S. M.
Sometimes a bit miss or hit with the food.had some v.good pancakes though..but with strawberries..would've been better jus berries. Peoole are v.friendly who work here generally and hot drinks good selection. Fresh juices available too! Prices are slightly below elsewhere too.....internet available
R. P. Q.
Ambiance is ok. Service speed was ok but not friendly enough. No one asked how the food was or if we needed anything else. Food looks lovely presented as you can see in the photo. It’s delish. Menu is limited option for brunch. Overall, good value for money.
E. C.
This was a chance find. A vegan cafe with a big menu and great cakes. I had two. A lovely garden with a covered area if it rains.
M. E.
The Gallery Cafe is one of those rare oases in the city. Its garden is quite large with a nice lawn and beautiful trees. The food served is delicious. Some of my friends didn't like the sausages in the full English breakfast because they were too close to those minced meat sausages they didn't like when they still ate meat. I devoured them :-)
M. W.
Our third time here for breakfast, it's becoming a tradition during trips to London because it's just so great. The tofu scrambles are the best we've had, the juices are incredible and fresh. Lovely service and a great crowd. Really nice to sit in the garden with reasonably priced lovely food and enjoy it all.
N. P.
Came here for breakfast on a weekday. It was fairly quiet and no waiting for a table required.
Staff all friendly to locals but felt quiet cold to people they didnt recognise. Plenty of seating inside and outside.
Went for the full breakfast which consisted of tasty sausages, sourdough toast, homemade style baked beans, mushrooms, scrambled tofu and sauteed spinach with a few roasted potatoes. Only thing missing was vegan butter to spread on the toast.
I can say atleast that I've been there, done that and got the t-shirt...but would I go back? Probably not.
R. M.
Lovely place (inside and garden) for good vegan breakfast.
Might want to rethink the bread used for the toast though ? A bit chewy/bouncy. Sometimes "more basic" bread is just better for breakfast toast. Vegan "SC re ambled egg" v good though 🙂
M. W.
Nice space and garden, staff are friendly, but it's very much an old school veggy (now fully vegan) cafe serving pretty basic and underwhelming sandwiches, soups etc. The standard for vegan food is now pretty high around east london -- I hope they can up their game!
N. S.
Great vegan full (and filling) English with homemade beans, herby sausages, good bread and tasty scrambled tofu! Only downsides: did have to wait around 40 mins for it to come (nursing nice coffees so all good), tofu was a bit cold (rest was piping), sausages tiny bit too charred, didn't really get the plain and lightly cooked potatoes - surely could improve that component, and only got one leaf of the (nicely dressed) spinach. But still 5* for me as hard to come by such a comprehensive and generously portioned vegan breakfast, and appreciate challenges of keeping consistency with all those elements and an extremely busy Sunday!
D. V.
Great breakfast, although be prepared for a small menu (3-4 items). The garden in the back is the perfect place to enjoy your meal on a nice day. Their pancakes are amazing!
A. Y.
Last time I had the english breakfast, which was very nice - more importantly I was stunned by the pastries - all vegan! All amazing... I gained so much weight because of this place - but I will forgive you :) this time I wanted to get some pastries but I ordered seitan and chips, amazing taste! Amazing flavor, and the mayo was also perfect. Stuff was nice, place looks cute and relaxing. Will come again!
B. A.
This is my favourite breakfast place if I'm in London. During the summer you can find a perfect spot in front of the cafe or in the backyard. The most important 5-star motivation is the food. The food (vegan) is awesome. Also my not vegetarian-friend was impressed and satisfied. Also as the most importent start of the day is coffee. The coffee is perfect and there are also vegan cappuccino's and flat white coffees for the special coffee lovers. The staff is also very helpful and friendly and love and you can find some (local) art at this cafe. Just an awesome place I hope to visit soon again. Cheers
P. C.
Pleasant atmosphere and surroundings.
Extensive vegan menu all freshly prepared by friendly staff.
D. W.
Very nice setting, little bit disorganised but food arrived soon enough. Coffee was lukewarm.
Have suggested to change the Linda McCartney rehydrated soya sausages with the new birds eye pea protein sausages, they cook Better and are beettery for you.
Will visit again.
B. B.
100% plant based café, with lovely service, and delicious food and drinks. Their selection is what vegans dream of. Food changes according to the best available ingredients at any given time.
R. N. G.
Very good breakfasts. My none vegan wife was also very impressed. Tasty and good value too. Lovely little place, will definitely be back.
G. V.
Great breakfast, and very much a good spot for working from. Staff were also super friendly

I've been meaning to try the Gallery Cafe for some time now so once I finally got a spare moment to grab some brunch with friends I was over the moon! I absolutely loved the food and coffee. Every element of my full English breakfast was tasty, especially the potatoes - amazingly crispy ! (Can I have the recipe please?!). I would have liked some dairy free butter to be offered for the toast as once it arrived it was a bit hard and coldish, but other than that everything was great. I also tried one of their doughnuts and that didn't fail to please either. Apart from that, the interior is super cosy and cute and I love that there's a lot of seating outside, I will deffo be coming back in the summer time. Recommended !
B. B.
I swing by Gallery Cafe anytime I am in the area. The food is fantastic and the atmosphere even better. On a nice day you have the option of out from, inside and the large garden out back.
There are always tons of gluten-free option for food and the coffee is on point.
In Bethnal Green this is my go to cafe.
S. S.
Super little vegan cafe. The falafel wrap was served hot and had plenty of filing. The foccaccia sandwich with avocado and olives was sizeable and good value for around £4. The cafe also offers a number of cakes - the walnut and banana one was particularly good.
Great for a sunny day as there is plenty of outdoor seating at the front and back of the cafe.
If you want to come for brunch, make sure to come early and definitely well before 12. Note the cafe only accepts cards.
M. S.
a lovely vegan cafe just around the corner from bethnal green station and the childhood museum. i had the burger and my god it was good. service was also very very quick and staff welcoming. i’ll definitely be returning soon as the prices are also reasonable
I. B.
Brilliant little cafe/restaurant, quite delightful. Sit in the wonderful little garden at the rear. Food most appetising and not over priced.
H. S.
Nice veggie cafe. Went in during the day to work from somewhere else for a bit, lots of other people on laptops. Coffees were OK but I didn't realise they wouldn't be cows milk until I was drinking it - could have been an issue if I were allergic to oats. Food was also OK but quite basic (we had veg stew and Thai green curry). However I did have a donut that was great!
E. B.
Great atmosphere, good coffee and friendly staff. Lovely vegan spot to visit!
M. M.
It’s a nice place to have a tea or coffee. They normally have a tasteful music going on on the background. Their breakfast selection it’s not great, and sometimes the kitchen staff overcook the ingredients. There are normally lots of fellas working behind the screen of their laptops in this café, very hipster lifestyle.
J. S.
Pretty good breakfast burrito. The fluffy pancakes were very good. Nice coffee and outdoor seating area at the back. Worth a visit on a nice day.
S. W.
Came here for a birthday treat. I'm veggie, but trying to be more vegan and was really very impressed by the full English breakfast. As we were here at the weekend the garden was open and was a great place to sit and eat. Great food, staff could be friendlier, but still 5*.
C. H.
Absolutely fantastic menu at the weekends with a brilliant array of sandwiches and pastries through the week.
Gorgeous setting and wonderful staff
M. S.
This wonderful place was just around the corner of our Airbnb and we are so glad we found it! It was a perfect, sunny Saturday to sit in the charming garden and enjoy genuinely good vegan food!
j. b.
Artless and unaffected vegan 'cafe' hardly digresses from the usual genre staples and stereotypes. Though the portions be bountiful, fresh and tasty they tend to stick to convention and shy from invention.
The staff are capable and cope.
Homely here without the homilies.
S. B.
Nice garden view. Quite loud as the room is quite echoey so lots of clanging cutlery on floor noises etc. Staff quite unfriendly.
E. J. M.
Lovely vegan restaurant with very pleasant staff.
Had the Full English Breakfast with a latte and the Green Genie juice. All were very tasty. Would love to return someday.
T. H.
Not great, the avocado toast was nice with a crust as hard as rock, the setting was nice but the setting could have been anything as long as the food was excellent, It wasn't. The full English breakfast was bog standard cheap as chips stuff with hard undercooked potatoes, the cheapest nastiest Linda McCartney sausages, and again hard toast, coupled with the fact the food was barely warm when it arrived at our table! 1 star gained for being all vegan, another for the setting, nothing for the food.
m. p.
Tasty donuts and good coffee in a nice location.
Cosy coffee shop with a nice garden.
O. G.
The vegan full English breakfast was really tasty! Nice, quiet backyard with lots of space. Great selection of vegan baked goods + cold and hot drinks.
C. J.
Lovely, large garden and nice vegan food. Food a bit over priced compared to other vegan cafes I have been to. Service from staff was not very friendly.
D. E.
Lovely spot with an unexpected and really pleasant garden out the back. Food is nice (all vegan) and there's a wide selection of coffees/drinks.
Nice spot.
H. A.
Good atmosphere, nice small cafe near to the centrum. The staff are supernice, drinks and deserts are also good. Next time we will try the mains.
C. W.
Friendly staff. Really helpful when I knocked over a coffee and they happily gave me a replacement. Great range of hot drinks
A. B.
The service was a bit rushed. The atmosphere is pleasant. Unfortunately they no longer had the ingredients for the full english even at serving time. The curry was very good.
G. M.
Excellent setting in a atmospheric building, has a great garden too. Vegan food, I had the full English and a flat white (oat milk as standard). Yum.
K. S.
Amazing vegan burger, soft fries but still really tasty. Nice staff. Seating a little uncomfortable though and atmosphere a little cold despite it being very authentic.
A. A.
I never write reviews but have to give 5 starts to this lovely establishment. The staff is lovely, and the vibe is so cute! I had a wonderful flat white and slice of lemon/poppyseed cake was spectacular. Love that everything is vegan - I hate paying extra for non dairy milks! I will definitely be back!
Ps- wifi is fast if you need to study.
C. G.
I always love the food and the vibe here! Courtyard is even better than inside, when it’s warm enough ☺️
S. R.
Honestly love this place and have for years. Last week I had the oyster mushroom kebabs and they were to die for. Please keep on the menu!
B. E.
A table of 5 and we each had something different for breakfast and all great. Don't miss out on eh drinks... The turmeric, matcha and beetroot latte are really cool.
k.
I had to try the breakfast. I would have liked my food hotter. But overall a good experience.
T. A.
One of the best vegan restaurants around. The vegan burger was delicious.
R. A.
One of my favourite spots! Coffee is good I tired raspberry and white chocolate muffins so yummy! Ambiance is pretty good with nice music :)
C. C.
Friendly staff and delicious food. This is my second visit here and I hope it won't be my last.
l. s.
Absolutely scrumptious, don't miss the English breakfast! Wonderful sweet treats too
F. D.
Cosy place good location, average food, small portions, short variety of food options. Nice staff, good service. The food is delicious, fresh and generous portion.
K. S.
Food was good and a lot lovely varied menu. Service was a little slow but not too bad.
Portions are generous and tasty!
S. O.
Excellent pastries, nice environment, and unique takes on a warm breakfast
J. M.
The gallery cafe is one of my favourite places to go for a vegan brunch. The food is delicious and the staff are kind. But also the atmosphere is just really nice and chilled. The place feels spacious and just has an all around good vibe. It's also got an outside area which I didn't use but it looked great for sitting out on a sunny day.
M. T.
Lovely coffee! Vegan Full English could be a bit improved. Not the best ingredients.
B. S.
Absolutely delicious and wonderful food. The staff is polite and aroma is really cozy.
C. S.
Lovely cafe with the friendliest staff 👌They were kind enough to let us leave our bags there while we went for a run in Victoria Park ⛲ we then enjoyed a mocha & matcha lattes & yummy cookies 🍪 loved it! Thank you
S. A.
Lovely an friendly. Good vegan food.
Cosy garden
J. H.
So yummy!!! So happy to have found this place around the corner from where I was staying. Also had beautiful coffee :)
J. T.
Healthy, fresh vegan food. Has a nice garden out the back.
Full english was a bit dry so I'll be trying something else for breakfast when I go back but all the daytime meals I've had have been brilliant.
I agree with some of the reviews on the staff - they're definitely not rude but not friendly either. Neutral.
H. S.
Fully vegan cafe 💚🌱! Serves good croissants and coffees and the pancakes looked great.
The full breakfast is decent but probably not the best value for money. The kale was not well cooked and the "sausages" from a well known supermarket brand.
S. 1.
Really like the ambience - great for chilling and working. Staff are very friendly. I had decaf coffee and a strawberry cupcake - the coffee was pretty good, but the cupcake was pretty dry (maybe because it was towards the end of the day). They have monthly exhibitions within the cafe for local artists which add nicely to the atmosphere, and the buildings beside it do yoga, wellness and art classes as part of the charity organisation, which is awesome. I will come back as I live in the neighbourhood and the place has great vibes. Keep up the awesome work :D
C. M.
Pros:
I loved the range of options on the menu and the creative options offered.
Good vibe in the restaurant
Cons:
Food & Drink - I would agree with others on the notes about coffee and food flavour. Coffee was ok but I felt was quite mild for my taste, but this is a preference, it was still a nice coffee. Food - ok value but I do agree with others about being overcooked.
Service - agree with others in terms of the services one staff member on the till can be a little cold and disinterested.
E. M.
Great vibe and lovely room, bright and wide. Fantastic for vegetarians and vegans as that’s their specialism. Tried their juices/smoothies and they are great. Breakfasts options are good but thought the avocado on toast was edging o the expensive side. Overall, lovely place. Would go back!
A. I.
I couldn't recommend this place enough. They're food is stunning with a great variety of vegan options. Try your favourite coffee with oat milk. Chief is amazing, but be quick as they usually have everything sold out due to high demand.
In summer time they open the yard, please take off your shoes and feel the grass while sipping their most delicious and reinvigorating smoothies.
J. H.
Friendly, relaxed, unpretentious, a hidden gem just far enough away from the bustle of Bethnal Green, and with a lovely garden area. Definitely worth checking out.
S. K.
Food is absolutely amazing.
Lovely seating area and friendly staff.
We will be back.
J. W.
Wide selection of excellent food and good coffee. Friendly staff. The garden at the rear of the café is so relaxing. A pleasant experience .
D. K.
I went to this cafe today with my sister and niece as we were having a nice day out in the sunshine. Just wonna get the down points about our experience out the way first... two of the ladies that worked there - one of them was lovely and sweet, very accommodating, smiley and helpful when I asked for a high chair, etc... the other lady on the other hand looking so moody you would think she would rather be at home in her bed drinking a bottle of wine. She was on her phone while I was ordering our food with her. No eye contact and then went to throw my receipt in the bin before I asked if I could have the customer copy. I understand if she was having a bad day but this effected our experience at the Gallery Cafe and wasn't very pleasant at all. Secondly, when the food came it looked messy, stingy and very amiture. There was a massive lack of flavour and over all very basic. I think this place is a lovely place and has great potential but as of now is a very hit a miss place. Go at your own risk. Good luck 😉
N.
I decided before I came in, that I was going to love it here. They serve vegan food, and all their profit goes back into charitable work to help the local community. I had Avocados on Sourdough Toast and I’m pleased to say I wasn’t disappointed. Very tasty and a lovely warm rustic feel. You would love it here.
A.
Nice Cafe with a good selection of vegan food. I had a vegan burger which was particularly good if a little too greasy. Outdoor seating both front and back, as well as a large conservatory most make this a great option during the warmer months.
T. S. A.
Would be five stars if not for the one underwhelming meal I've had here. Full English was a little lacklustre. Tofu lacked flavour. However! Usually incredible food, recommend the Avocado toast. Homemade pesto! Prices could be cheaper but the café itself has a great feel. Nice and open. Beautiful lighting. Two outdoor areas.
K. T. M.
Recommend full English breakfast (huge portion) and croissant. Come early otherwise the service won't be the same.
K. G.
Wonderful vegan community cafe. It was busy at lunch time but people are happy to share tables. The menu is refreshingly cheap for London - 6.50 for a full English breakfast and 3.50 for granola. Really delicious too - meat eaters needn't be put off! Great little courtyard out the front for when the weather's more accommodating.
C. :.
It's a lovely atmosphere here. Nice food too - love the fries! Often very busy, especially on sunny days. Not very good access if you have a pram or wheelchair if you don't want to be outside, which is a shame. Other than that, a nice place.
R. E.
The food looked and smelled amazing, but unfortunately almost an hour after ordering my food still had not arrived with the rest of my table's food. I was told it'd be a further 15 mins to wait as they had forgot to put the order in after I'd paid. I was offered a refund for my meal and left hungry. The chai latte I had was great though.
i. t.
The atmosphere is lovely! The glass veranda overlooking the garden is perfect for an afternoon tea with friends. The menu includes sweets&tea as well as lunch dishes: everything is meat free and dairy free! For the quality of what you get, the prices are alright. Will probably visit again...
C. G.
Very nice and cozy place to enjoy a coffee with oat milk and vegan food! super nice staff and good wifi to stay there for hours working on your computer. You may share a table but they are large and people going there super cool. at the evening they have some beautiful lights that will maje the place even cozier.
K. M.
This cafe is genuinely lovely! A very happy find. A lot of the food is vegan-friendly, and all of it is delicious. The scrambled tofu is particularly good, and the coffee is top notch. Lots of events on the calendar and the large tables add a nice community vibe. Visit!
E. E.
Tried this based on reviews here and I'm really glad I did. The veggie burger was the best I've ever had and I've been veggie for over 20 years. Portion was generous but not huge. The flavours were distinct and fresh. Staff were helpful but not fussy. My WiFi connection problem was dealt with....and ...given I'd popped in for lunch before an interview... I was very glad to have tried it. Will definitely go back (whether I get the job or not!).
J. C.
I went on a Saturday afternoon, it was loud and busy and our table was very sticky.
I had just a chai latte..it was my first one
The taste was fine, but it had so many lumps of spices inside, it looked like it wasn't mixed properly, it was very unpleasant to drink.
My friend had a mini vegan chocolate cake, I tried and it was very moist and tasty!
Mixed feelings about this place, I will probably give another chance next time I'm in the area.
H. P.
Gallery Cafe used to make the best vegan burgers in London, but has now changed the recipe completely. It's really heavy on the beetroot and far less tasty. Such a shame. I'm a meat eater and used to genuinely rank their vegan burgers as being number one on my best burgers list. Please, Gallery Cafe, bring the old burgers back!!
K. L.
I love vegan burgers that don't try to creepily imitate meat, so Gallery Cafe succeeds with its patty made from tofu and veggies. Great texture, nicely flavored, and the sourdough bun is swirled with vegan mayo that also passes muster.
Side salad and a generous helping of fries rounds out the £7.95 meal, and it was enough for me for a light lunch and dinner.
Great seating area with plenty of light, and the vibe made me do doubletakes to make sure I hadn't warped back to Berkeley.
The place can get packed on sunny weekends, but not much trouble finding a table if you don't mind a bit o' a squeeze. There's a little stage for live music as well!
A. W.
Oat-milk latte.. a first for me, but really quite pleasant. I've not been to many vegan cafes, so can't judge against equivalents but this place has a very welcoming atmosphere, a broad cross-section of clientelle and uplifting light and space. The almond croissant had suffered Mary's soggy bottom, but the cooked food being brought out for others looked and smelled delicious. Given our dairy-heavy UK diet, vegan cafes may struggle, but they shouldn't if they are all half as good as this.
A. W. (.
This has improved a lot in recent years. It feels roomier and is better kept. They've also switched to all vegan and have labelled "gender neutral bathrooms" which is a nice gesture, but nothing to panic about for conservatives - it just means each cubicle can be used by men or women, which is standard in many cafes anyway.
I've eaten four dishes here and they were all great - they also have a selection of cakes, pastries and sandwiches to go. There is outdoor seating and a conservatory area with a view of the shared garden area for the building.
One request: bring back the bottomless water!
Also, some of the (quite small) cooked food menu sold out before closing time. This might be because they closed early, but still.
Heads up: You can't use laptops in there on the weekends.
C. W.
It was a bit crowded when we came over, but it was partly because it was around lunchtime. The food was delicious, and the cafe was really aesthetically pleasing with the window side tables and garden outside. The only downside was that the wifi wasn't working when we went over to do our work, but other than that, I would recommend!
t. s.
Cool staff with a friendly chilled atmosphere. Foods is pretty good, chai latte is amazing! (Got a soft spot for it, don't judge) and all reasonably priced! Bit hipster but old school hipster (over 30s will catch my drift) bit of a gem for Bethnal green. Garden out side space at the back that's real nice in summer, and normal outside seating at the front!
T. K.
Really cool, friendly place, bustling atmosphere during lunch times. But warm relaxing after lunch hour rush..has outdoor seating.
E. R.
Potentially the best vegan pancakes ever, I loved the art in there as well.
C. G.
A beautiful cafe with a lovely terrace and garden, great food and delicious coffee.
UNFORTUNATELY the friendly efforts of some staff are overshadowed by an extremely unfriendly member of staff who makes you want to apologies for even placing your order let alone asking a question. Sadly, she ruins the lovely atmosphere of the Gallery Cafe and I will be sure to avoid the place when she is around. (She has been on shift several times when I was there, and regardless of whether the place was busy or empty, she was always in a terrible mood).
H.
Food is good, staff is nice, atmosphere is good too. Would've been 5 stars if there were more gluten free options (bread, cakes). I went on a Sunday and the place was pretty packed, so arrive earlyish during weekends if you want a table.
S. H.
Great gluten free options, clearly marked on the menu. Try the chips and curry, which includes yummy cashews and home made curry! At weekends they have a gorgeous garden at the back, perfect for summer!
J. L.
I'm on the fence about this place. Been a few times and think the quality was a bit inconsistent. Decent vegan burger and coffee, but I've def had better coffee in the area. Beatiful back garden!
K. R.
wonderful vegan & vegetarian food. the menu changes but good selection of meals to choose from. lovely seating inside but really nice outside. you don't expect such a bit space outdoors. would definitely go again.
I. K.
They served simple and good food. Gallery Cafe is clean and serves delicious vegetarian food. They also have a variety of cakes and they also served chips which are so tasty. The coffee is reallygood and in affordable price, and they also have selection of organic teas. I've always appreciated both the coffee and the service but generally I like how comfortable it is,where I can sit here for a couple of hours writing, while the customers come and go during peak hours and nobody is bothering me. This place is great for vegetarians and it is a best choice for delicious home prepared food. The coffee is not the only thing to get interested about, but they also store soya milk which is always anextra, and they do a good selection of tea and coffee.
D. S.
Very cosy vegan cafe in Bethnal Green, only had a coffee but was delish. Lots of people were ordering what looked like pancakes so will try next time I'm in. They also host live events so worth checking out.
J. T.
Gallery Cafe is so much nicer than it used to be, but it still turns me into my mum. Why don't they vacuum the hairy detritus from the architrave? Brush the furry grey matter from on top of the speaker cabinets? Run a damp cloth over the light fittings? They are missing out on some of the most gratifying cleaning jobs.
Anyway, apart from that I lovely place to have a coffee.
R. G.
It's a very good place to get work done. It is quiet, with calm music in the background. Power sockets are available. And it looks as if about half of the patrons are there to work (at least during the week).
Espresso is good, but not great; cappuccino, OK.
The vegetarian burger and the cake were also very good.
V. E.
Slow and mediocre - waitress should be told about the meaning of "hospitality"- service. Products average in a average environment. The kitchen's - not pleasant - smells are pervasive in the lounge which, in the morning might not be welcome. Will never set foot there again. Coffee decent though.
J. H.
I really want to like the Gallery Cafe more, but I find the food very overpriced (£8-10 for their lunch options is several quid too much I’d say). It’s also quite draughty unless it’s properly warm. On the plus side, the coffee is good and they’re quite relaxed about laptop users.
M. M.
Just had possibly the best gluten free banana bread in the history of my vegan existence! Beautifully brewed soya latte, had a juice that was out of this world - the staff are accomodating and very polite, my friends breakfast was beautifully made homemade sourdough with avocado and it looked delcious! 10/10, an absolute gem in London. ♡
E. E.
The food is just perfect - and we are not even vegans! We've been here twice in the last week. Unfortunaly some of the staff seem annoyed, bored and tired. But most of them are pretty nice. We'll come again :)
R. T. J.
Great little place, the club Sandwich is gorgeous & friendly service
C. c.
I came here for breakfast and it was really lovely. The staff were friendly, there were plenty of options and more importantly it's really great that profits go back into the local community. Would highly recommend this place for a vegan treat.
S. V.
Nice place, good burgers & cupcakes, friendly staff 🙂👍🏻
G. R.
Pricey. Good food. Staff are alright, busy so no too much attention. Nice looking place where i can afford a coffee occasionally.
Lots of space and outside to sit and eat / drink. Hired some space there.
Wealthy vegetarians welcome
M. N.
The food is 10/10 great and this used to be my favourite cafe but I theres some issues I have that have made me stop coming as often. First thing is the drinks, I am always disappointed with the amount of coffee/tea you get for the price. Especially with tea - for that price you would elsewhere get a big mug if not a whole tea pot - here the staff half of the time doesn’t even completely fill the mug with water! Its a small thing but it becomes a bit annoying. Another thing is the atmosphere. I don’t know what happened but for the last couple of months whenever I come there are the SAME taylor swift songs playing OVER AND OVER again. I’m guessing a staff member must be a fan and while I like taylor swift as much as anyone it gets really tiring (and depressing) to be listening to the same sad break up songs whenever you come for a coffee - which for me used to be on a daily basis. It’s just a bit much and doesnt really make a great atmosphere. Another thing is now in the winter i often notice while sitting inside the staff members keep opening the front doors and leaving them open letting the cold air in. I get maybe they’re warm but as a customer there’s been now quite a few times that i’ve been sitting in the cafe wearing my coat and still shivering from the cold drafty wind coming in because the front doors are open and it’s not very pleasant. The staff is often unfriendly, hardly says hello and doesn’t make you very comfortable. Another thing is the Wi-fi, it randomly stops working and you can’t get it back - this has happened to me so often that it became really frustrating - especially when theres about 100 cafes around with working internet and friendly staff, in which you don’t have to be freezing while listen to the entire taylors speak now album on repeat. I used to always come to the cafe and spend half of the day there working/reading ordering food and lots of drinks but all of these factors made me change it for other places. Which is a shame because otherwise it’s a really good place.
M. C.
Good food, nice atmosphere. 4 stars cause felt rushed to order and it way pretty pricey. Still, worth a visit.
M. S.
Large portions, I dream of their loaded fries, all vegan & guilt-free, a great community feel. I took my boyfriend here for his birthday because I thought it was special enough. The large windows at the back made it a haven for people doing work on laptops and such. Honestly great location in Bethnall green & good for literally anyone. I want to go back every few months and try all the seasonal foods.
Oh but skip the matcha latte, not a fan! And be patient with the baristas. This isn't a quick in & out place, stay awhile
D. W.
Good coffee and hipster atmosphere with well chosen and discreet background music. WiFi is sometimes a little weak so save your work often if working in the cloud! The decor is a bit austere - black metal chairs and tables. Having outlined my small gripes above, I'd have no hesitation returning for more coffee or fresh juice.
M. Z.
I hate to be negative (because the food here is positively divine) but I had a half hour wait for my takeout at lunchtime. A shame as I only had an hour for lunch and it was (thus far) the best weather we've had all year. Thought it would be nice to take my food and sit in the park. Half an hour propping up the counter while I waited and waited and waited and then get to the park - no fork, no spoon, no serviette. I fashioned a spoon out of detritus from my handbag, shovelled my grub down and dashed back to work. Disappointing. My advice (for what it's worth) - don't bother if you've actually got anything to do with the rest of your day. If you've got hours to spare, knock yourself out as the food really is actually bloody good.
K. S.
Food is mostly OK. But I was unlucky a couple of times and got a dish that was either bland or had a weird taste. Staff is indifferent.
I originally gave 5 stars two years ago. It's either I became too picky or the quality of the food and service has changed.
E. B.
Love this place, I think the staff are probably sick of seeing my face there so often. Food is lovely, staff are lovely, and all profits go to community support and projects. So worth a visit (or 10!)
B. C.
Love the Gallery Cafe, been coming here for years, staff change often, some need a little more encouragement to smile, but it's worth the effort. Food is expensive, but yummy. Coffee is excellent.
T. J.
Delicious food. Lovely staff
J. P.
This charming, bustling café’s signature achievement is making this evangelical carnivore think seriously for some moments of the merits of veganism. The superb, homely food and drink, paired with a feel-good, charitable mission, make this an excellent addition to any list of top East London cafés.
D. G.
Exceptional vegan food, with every aspect considered - the full English breakfast was good enough that even as a meat eater I came away feeling happy and full - I even had to skip lunch! Good coffee too.
P. B.
Amazing vegan breakfast, one of the best I have ever had. The scrambled tofu in particular was top notch. Great vibe inside the cafe, good menu and decent free Wi-Fi 👍
C.
Incredible vegan cafe! I love it here so much - the food and ambience is perfect. Wish I lived closer so I could go here more often but I will hopefully be back!
M. v. d. B.
Food is okay, no complaints on either of my three visits.
However, staff really gives you the impression they dislike having customers, giving short/rude responses. I don’t know if that’s cool behavior, but I am not digging it much.
R. B.
Amazing cafe serving delicious vegan food! The peaceful garden is superb and the overall atmosphere is very relaxing. Best cafe in Bethnal Green!
D. M.
I love the place and some of the food (I wouldnt recommend the pancakes), but I went this morning and the two girls working there were really rude, when we were very nice to them. So I don't know if I would go back, having so many other vegan options in London.
C. S.
Lovely coffee shop with amazing food and great coffee. Just a suggestion. Can you guys check what's happening with the redheaded waitress? All the other staff are lovely but she's just ..... Let's just say not friendly at all.
G. V.
Great food and amazing hot chocolate! The price is also decent for the quality. One minus thing is that the seats are not very comfy. Before they had sofas but now they've changed to only chairs.
S. K.
Great food and nice coffee. Garden out back is open on weekends and really nice in the summer. The cafe is part of a charity and puts on lots of events and is a really great addition to the local community in Bethnal Green
G. L. P.
This impressive set of Bethnal Green buildings have been around since 1889 and sit handsomely next to the vintage beauty that is York Hall. Collectively known as St. Margaret's House and home to local NGOs, charities and social entrepreneurs, not to mention the intriguing charity shop and The Create Place down the road, St Margaret’s House rears its mighty shoulders across a fair chunk of Old Ford Road, and rightly so with all the honest goodness that they are pumping back into the community. Nestled into its side is the charm offensive going by the name of The Gallery Café.
Warning: we're going to say the v word; all the food in The Gallery Cafe is vegetarian or vegan, and it’s blooming tasty too. The string of lights which stretch out to adorn the cafe's front, sets the scene for a very friendly and comforting welcome that entices you in. We are not talking Cath Kitson sickly sweet comfort, more heart of the home, lived-in kitchen comfort with its parquet floor, mix of sturdy benches, sofas and cafe tables. On the menu you’ll find some solid staples with veggie curries, halloumi and falafel wraps, pizzas and daily specials which we are told are in much demand, plus most menu options can come in vegan versions too, you just need to ask. The night GLP popped in for a nosey, we opted for the veggie burger with cheese and gherkin extras. The extra we didn’t expect were the size of the chips - think fish finger girth. Couple this up with the doughy buns from the local E5 Bakehouse (also a GLP) and salad hitting the fresh mark, this food was packing a serious veggie goodness punch.
In keeping with the community feel there's a real focus on sustainable and local suppliers. Along with E5 expect beverages from Tea Pigs, London Fields Brewery and Belvoir juices, and here’s the best bit - all profits go back into the café. This isn't hipster and it ain't hippy, the night we visited there was a mix of after work eaters, quick-drink before homers, locals, coffee slurpers, surfer types, and a few students (there's free wifi). The staff seemed like your mates and they were more than happy to recommend a non veggie the best route through the menu. If this wasn’t enough to take you over to Bethnal Green, the café hosts a roster of intriguing events from the brilliantly named Litmus Test science open mic night, comedy and curry evenings to film screenings in the chapel out the back (yes really) and folk nights. Arriving early is always recommended and a night like no other guaranteed. If you fancy some no fuss honest food, with heart and community soul, this is worth the wander down Old Ford Road.
R. M.
It's amazing! !! Me and my friend went to this place today for the first time, we ordered 1 vegan burger and 1 wrap. OMG it was amazing! Everything was so tasty and cheap! Lovely!!! ❤❤❤
V. D.
Friendly cafe in very convenient location in Bethnal Green. It serves good coffee, has a good selection of food. A big plus are the gender neutral toilets and the gradebook at the back.
H. S.
The Gallery and the nearby Larder are very similar. With their offerings of vegetarian brunch type meals and great coffees, they become great little gems of the Bethnal Green Area. I would give the Larder the edge on the menu as there seems to be more on offer, however, the Gallery is open till 9, has a beautiful garden and performances and other activities every week. You can't go wrong with either of them.
K. H.
Lovely little cafe. Gorgeous vegetarian food. Changes all the time so you can try something new. Even as a meat eater I look forward to eating here! Hot chocolate is good in the winter.
L. C.
The gallery is a firm favourite of mine. Fantastic vegan food, cosy indoors, airy outdoors. Huge portions for your money and super delicious cakes!
A. C.
Lovely little place with lots to offer. Although the menu is purely vegetarian, you can have a nice breakfast and it would be delicious - I guarantee it. There's also light music to complete the cozy atmosphere.
L. A.
We were there for a breakfast in June. The meal options are excellent and the Full English is outstanding! Nice backyard where you feel calm and relaxed. Friendly staff!
F. B.
The place to go for a lovely vegan weekend brunch in East London. Waffles, pancakes, loads of cakes and loaves. Plenty of delicious savoury dishes too.
R. V.
Such a cool place, social and affordable, and above all the food is delicious!! Had a seasonal stew with chickpeas, preserved lemon, cavolo nero and prunes for 7,50!
M. M.
I like the gallery cafe. The food is excellent vegan fare, with lots of good gluten free options. Try the gallery burger (minus the bun, if g.f)
R. W. F. f.
Fantastic coffee friendly staff a great place to call on just down from York Hall leisure centre
B. v. d. T.
One of my ultimate favourite vegan cafés in London! Cute, lovely staff and banging food!
G. B.
The coffee and cake I had there in the afternoon were really delicious, and the cafe is light with a good atmosphere. It's kind of an arty place, and they also host various events. I went there when there was a one-day festival going on.
G. L.
Very nice place, I had a very good coffee and a very nice veggie burger. It would be perfect with more comfortable chairs and having the music not as loud to allow some reading.
P. S.
Great cafe for people who think vegan food is healthy…
S. P.
Really nice little cafe serving delicious and inventive vegan food and drinks. Good prices. A bit cramped.
M. M.
The garden is so, so beautiful. Great coffee and really nice people!
J. O.
Lovely black bean and lentil chilli 🌶 😍
A. A.
The food was okay, but just okay. The service on the other hand was pretty bad. Most of the staff there seem to resent the job that they do like it's getting in the way of their hipster lifestyle. I was there at busy time but even so show some interest in your customers and try not to be rude.
E. C. D.
Fantastic cafe and very good pizza
M. M.
Used to go here some 17 years ago, STILL come here when passing, is a great place, give it a go :)
C. H.
Some of the best coffee in Bethnal Green! They use allpress and Bon Soy so true coffee fanatics know these ingredients make for an amazing coffee! am yet to try the food but looking to do so soon!
S. P.
Really nice vegan cafe. Its popularity sometimes pushes its resources to the limit but the food and vegan options are great. Nice drinks and décor too.
M. C. B.
The flat white had too much milk but it was nice because they have a lovely garden outside!
J. H.
Really nice vibe here. There is a good community feel to this cafe. Lots of healthy fresh juices and a beautiful breeze. Good WiFi and always something going on there.
D. H. (.
Very nice garden to have a catch up in.
T. H.
Amazing vegan cafe with a lovely and quite terrace in the back. Food was really good. I had the gallery burger.
M. S.
Great and friendly staff. The place is excellent to do some computer work, or have a coffee, as even when is crowded you still can pick up the chilled atmosphere.
J. P.
Their halloumi wrap is amazing! Juices are very good too. They also have food on the counter that tastes deliciously. They even have a garden at the back!
A. H.
Best fry up I've had my whole life

Vegan food and a great coffee shop. Ran by a local charity and the money goes towards the work they do. Friendly staff and a beautiful space inside and out.
A. M. (.
Such a place for a nice and relaxing time, the breakfast are so tasty (vegan), they got WiFi and a planty tables inside and outside, really comfortable.
L. L.
Great for just a coffee or a meal. One of my favourite cafes to sit and read by the window and twinkly lights at the back. Also have interesting arty evening events on.
I. P.
Good people - great croissants
t. w.
I love the beautiful green room here filling the place with natural light. Also the food is pretty good with a real home made sort of vibe.
C. H.
Vegan burger was tasty and filling, although slightly mushy. Made up for by the toasted bun. Shared tables. £4.60 for a relaxed lunch.
P. A.
Vegan / Vegetarian coffee and juice shop. Can get fairly busy at lunchtime - but worth it! Very reasonable prices and good quality ingredients.
J. G.
A regular for me for very good reasons. Great vegan / vegetarian food and drinks, lovely staff and a great place to either get some work done or catch up with friends.
S. C.
Great coffee shops especially in summer during the weekend. You can enjoy their lovely garden and even as a non vegeterian person I think the food is pretty good ;)
J. P.
Good place (indoors, front terrace and back garden) ! And the vegan menu is great, from breakfast to dinner.
b. B.
Lovely vegan cafe. Nice garden at the back, friendly staff, good range of vegan and vegetarian lunch and breakfast. Would absolutely recommend
M. G.
very quiet place, good quality vegan food. Staff could be a little bit more cheerful . great place to work a bit with your laptop.
J. J. S.
Nice place to have coffee and snacks. Their WiFi is very unreliable and slow but they have a garden area that looks promising on sunny days.
F. C.
Lovely cafe with a great range of vegan food, from doughnuts to meals. I'd definitely go again!
D. S.
I wanted to like this place, being vegan, but it's not very cosy, with metal chairs, and every time I've been in there have been serious laptop users and loud conversions. My tea came in a small mug too.
E. d. B. -. H.
Great atmosphere, but I had a horrible vegan full English :( would come here again to try other dishes though, it all looked amazing!
C. B.
Great place to eat 100% vegan. Family friendly. Amazing staff. Keep it up guys. Great postive Karma comming your way for sure🙏🏽
J. M. C.
My favourite place to work. Good coffee and good breakfast. Noisy when there are a lot of people. No many plugs for the charger.
W. d. R. D.
Lovely place. Nice coffee, delicious vegetarian meals at very afordable prices, free Wifi, friendly staff... Seriously, as a freelance, this is my dreamed office.
M. B.
Lovely atmosphere in addition to the strong coffee - perfection. The staff can be a little slow but does their job with a positive attitude so I guess I can get used to it.
J. L.
A fantastic veg friendly cafe a little off the beaten track in Bethnal Green. Worth the exploration to find. Inexpensive and great for spending the day with your laptop.
T. R.
A real nice place to eat. The wraps were really nice and warm. Followed by a chocolate brownie and a nice hot chocolate. Brilliant and relaxed lunchtime.
S. S.
Nice cafe to go especially on a warm day when they have the garden open at the back. However staff not always that friendly.
M. C.
Wicked chai latte, they even offer 'cow milk' despite the vegan name. The avocado sandwich was super tasty too.
R. S.
Good vegan food. Im not a vegan but i liked it. Cafe supports a local charity. Nice art in the cafe
F. M.
Yummy food, lovely atmosphere
J. L.

E. L. (.
Lovely staff, great food! Bit unclean, the tables have been sticky more than once but nothing but a small inconvenience.
T. S.

A.
BEAUTIFUL full english breakfast! It was worth coming over in the morning from Paddington to try their pancakes and vegan breakfast.
J. H.
Really good food, and reasonably priced considering the quality. Well worth a visit. Shame it's so far from where I live.
a. c.
Always loved this cafe, however, they seem to do less and less. No food in the evening now, although you can still get a drink.
W. M.
The best place around to work. The inside garden is marvelous.
G.
Excellent food, friendly staff but their new chairs and tables are tinny and uncomfortable. Bring back the wooden ones, they had more character.
J. D.
An old favourite for some tasty vegan snacks and meals, hosting regular events and art exhibitions.
Though lately the experience depends on who is serving
W. L.
