Reviews of Gillray's Steakhouse & Bar

I chose this brilliant restaurant for the proposal day to my girlfriend on Valentine's Day. Everything was amazing. Lovely and friendly staff. They were very supportive, and they did help me make a wonderful night for my lovely fiance and me. We will surely go there again for having another joyful night with their tasty foods and great stakes. 100% recommended.

Amazing space for a relaxed drink in the bar which specialises in gin. Access from the South Bank or through the County Hall Marriott Hotel which is equally as impressive. Views across the river. Staff could act slightly more enthusiastic but understandable given the current challenges with the hospitality industry.

Went in for a posh tea and bottomless gin. The restaurant was lovely and relaxing. The sarnies and scones were lovely, not so much the cakes. They were soggy and didn't please the palate. The gin was so watered down, it didn't taste anything like gin....more of tonic water. A bit disappointed although service was excellent.

Great restaurant, the room is stunning with tall ceilings and plenty of woodwork amd great views of the Thames embankment. The staff are very attentive and are always checking on you so no need to flag someone down. The steak was Grade-A and cooked to medium rare perfection.

Beautiful fillet steak, triple cooked chips and side shrimp pasta dish. Dessert called marathon was tasteless and my friend ordered the rhubarb tart which hardly had any custard and was served cold, would be better warm.
Bar area when you walk in is really nice but the restaurant table set up was very plain. Would be better set up with table cloths for a more luxurious experience. Hardly any staff so had to wait a long time between courses and to ask to top up our water. Staff unfortunately not very attentive and seemed rushed/stressed. Tried many times to gain eye contact with waitor/waitress and it felt like they were purposley ignoring us. Overall would think twice about going back especially due to lack of service and the the money we paid.

Great staff, very welcoming. The food choices was amazing. We ate there 2 days in a row. The quality of food was out if this world. I have attached my favourite dish. Ten out of ten.

Ate here for a week. Steaks and Ribs are great. Breakfast is decent.

We had a voucher to redeem, so booked this place for dinner on a Saturday night. While the adjacent bar area was quite busy, the restaurant was perhaps just 25% full, and most of the other diners seemed to be tourists/hotel guests (the restaurant is housed within a Marriott hotel). It was a fairly stark setting, and with so many empty tables around, devoid of atmosphere as well.
Myself and my wife had a selection of starters, followed by the 800g Tomahawk steak with a few sides, and finally the lemon meringue dessert. We did enjoy our starters (especially the beef ribs) and the dessert, however the main item – the steak – was disappointing, in part due to the fact that it was delivered medium well rather than the requested medium rare. The sides accompanying the steak were pretty average as well.
We had our two young kids accompanying us. The place does have a decent kids menu, with a choice of around 5 mains, plus various sides and desserts, all charged individually (£7 per main). Our kids were happy with their meals.
Service was friendly and well-intended, but staff did seem a bit rushed and it was sometimes difficult to get their attention (even though the restaurant was not busy). Adding back the voucher value, the bill for our meal came to around £220, of which £50 was spent on drinks. Far too expensive relative to the quality of the meal we had. In the end, the food was a mixed bag, but the bland atmosphere of the place would be in itself enough to stop me from returning.

This is the main restaurant inside the Marriott County Hall in London, inside the old GLC building. the layout is a bit odd (long and thin) but it’s quite fun to watch the food arrive through the numerous dumb waiters.
Had breakfast here three mornings during my stay and found it to offer an excellent choice of dishes, all well cooked. Eggs Benedict (with bacon chop) and American pancakes were particularly good choices.
Service was quick and the views are excellent if you can get one of the tables looking across the Thames.
Also had dinner here one night and found the steak and chips to be tasty. Béarnaise sauce was good.
The bar at the entrance to the restaurant offers a good choice of cocktails, but only the one beer on tap - Camden Hells.
