Reviews of Le Gothique
C. K.
We had an enjoyable dinner at Le Gothique. We were sat outdoors but the courtyard was well heated. For starters we had the kings prawns and goats cheese salad. We definitely preferred the goats cheese salad of the two items. For mains, we had the burger and sea bass which were both very enjoyable. The dessert was a bit of a let down with the lady fingers in the tiramisu not being soaked at all (so they were hard). The lava cake tasted supermarket bought and microwaved. Service was quick and polite.
If it wasn’t for the dessert this would have definitely deserved a 5 star rating.

This is a weird place. I'm confused that none of the other reviews seem to mention it. It's such a cool building, but then this restaurant feels a bit of a let down.
We came for dinner on Wednesday. There was only one other table of customers. It seemed really strange that it was even worth opening for them.
The food is nice, but quite expensive for what you get. The steak was overcooked, we asked for rare. And I think generally the menu feels a bit stuck in time.
The service was nice enough, but again we were the only table so it would be hard to do a bad job.
All in all I would say they didn't do tonnes wrong. It describes itself as London's first gastropub, and it feels like they haven't evolved since then.

One of the most delicous meals I have had for a long time now .ten out of ten .great food and great service .

Wow! Rediscovered this wonderful place after some 30 years...and very glad to have done so. What a treat, delightful location, amazingly good French cuisine, friendly staff and a decent wine list. I had the charcuterie with Burrata and heritage tomatoes to start, delicious...then the confit de canard with pommes dauphinoise and red cabbage, amazing...and then the best tiramisu ever for dessert. All washed sown with a decent Fleurie! What's not to like?! Go there...it's great!

Booked a table for 4 people for our annual Girls Christmas Dinner. Although I did mention we wanted the Christmas Menu when booking & also when I phoned to enquire about something we were disappointed to find they were not doing the Christmas Menu. Had we known before we wouldn't have booked there. Anyway we all had different starters & main courses which we all thoroughly enjoyed. Great food & great service. Rose the waitress was brilliant.

This was a nice surprise but a bit off the beaten track. The meal was a celebration for my wife and sons birthdays. The food didn’t disappoint however I thought the atmosphere was a bit lacking which was the only negative. The staff were really attentive which made us feel comfortable and not rushed.

My husband booked us a table here for my birthday and I'll definitely be going back. The food was amazing i had the best scallops I've ever tasted for my starter they were cooked to perfection and the steak I had for main was melt in the mouth tender. My chocolate fondant and ice cream dessert finished the meal off perfectly. The staff are so friendly and make the experience more special

I've been here before and felt a little underwhelmed by the pub/restaurant, but decided to give it a 2nd go, but not sure I've changed my opinion. However, I was attending the beer festival in the grounds outside which was excellent, the bar staff were lightning quick, the beer in excellent condition, and generally was well managed. So a bit "curates egg" really.

Beer Festival: Superb!! Superb venue (needed more chairs!!), but a Superb range of beers, many +5%.. !!! From Birmingham; well worth the day trip down. Great company discovered too. Many thanks!! Vince W

Staying nearby and thought we'd try it. Had 3 course meals. Well presented and served, good vibe to the place. Had a drink in the bar afterwards. Very nice. Good beer SamBrookes Wandle. The guy who served us was very efficient/pleasant/attentive.

It's no coincidence Mark, Andrew and team host the (usually bi-annual) beer and cider festival and their beers are always perfect.
Great food too and the dog agreed!

Used to attend beer festivals at this location back in the day and always had a great time. Recently attended a wedding get together as this lockdown is easing. Had a tremendous time also. The staff at Le Gothique really went out of their way to provide us with an excellent experience whilst taking every precaution dictated by law.

Been here several times, it's a great venue for a beer festival. Just a short walk from Clapham Junction.

Very yummy French food, good staff, free wine for our wedding anniversary...

A genuinely fabulous setting, the architecture is French chateau meets high Gothic Victoriana, all set amongst the trees of Wandsworth Common. A very Romantic backdrop. We sat in the charming courtyard garden, where you get peaks of the carved ceiling from the Great Hall next door. 4 stars because whilst my duck was delicious & highly recommended, my tiramasù was rustic and elements of the service were somewhat disjointed. Worth a visit nonetheless.

Went on a Wednesday lunch time with 6 people, we went upstairs on a large table which was dressed in white linen and glasses and candles as well. We had a choice of two menus. We all choose different items from starters to Main and desserts, the food was excellent cooked fresh and well presented our waiter was so polite and helpful and looked after our table with excellent standards everything we asked for was no trouble and was always done with a smile and making sure we had everything we needed and wanted. We were also tasting the menu for an upcoming wedding to be held here. Overall this was a lovely lunch lovely location with excellent food and great service. Will definitely be back again.

Lovely venue, friendly staff. Would highly recommend for any event you may have planned.

Lovely day, lovely lunch outside in the garden. It could have been a normal day apart from the hand sanitizer on the table and the staff wearing masks. Smaller menu, but that's not a complaint as I don't think I could have coped with too many choices. Wonderful Sunday lunch with friends.

Went here on a works family day with the Mrs and littlen. Good food, traditional architecture and a secret garden to play in.

The building was sold and gradually restored by its present owners, who had to endure, among other things, a fire in the Great Hall just before it was handed over. Building works took 7 years. The building now contains flats, studios and workshops for businesses in the creative industries, a drama school and a wine bar.

Fantastic. We had a birthday party at Le gothique and the whole event was brilliant. Great food and exceptional service. The owner and staff went beyond the call of duty to allow for our giant photo booth and joined in. 80 very very happy guests. Great decorations and music. All we had to do was have a great time. Highly recommended.

The Royal Victoria Patriotic building has a great history. If you live nearby, it is worth popping in just to learn more it.
In the summer, eating outside - in the inner garden, used by the restaurant can be delightful. But eating inside is less enjoyable; the décor and the furniture are tired.
When I first ate here - many years ago - I thought the food was very good. Now I would say that it varies between good and OK. Service is better than average..
A. D.
Thoroughly enjoyed dining here a number of times. Authentic French cuisine, perfectly cooked and a great wine list by the glass or bottle to boot!
Recommend!

Visited as part of beer festival. So not really a pub/restaurant review. Place looks amazing, Gothic is certainly the word for what looks like a spooky film set; you expect meet Dracula coming down the stairs! Nice choice of beers and pleasant service at bar - can't comment on food as I only ordered a plate of chips - which were just fine.
R. F.
I choose the venue but worried abouth the quality of the food as Italians are demanding guests. We had amazing time.We were married at Le Gothique 10 years ago and had the most amazing day so felt really lucky to be able to come back and celebrate our anniversary with family and friends at the same venue.

On September 8th, 2018, we had our much anticipated wedding reception at Le Gothique. From start to finish, everything ran smoothly and effortlessly. The food was absolutely delicious and served with excellent precision and timing. The atmosphere was fantastic and the tables were set beautifully. Even the weather held up!
We could not fault a single thing, as Mark, the proprietor, took great care of us. He definitely knows his stuff when it comes to organising weddings and I would highly recommend him and his fantastic team.
It was a wedding day to remember, and this is due to all the planning, input and gems of advice from Le Gothique.
Thank you for all that you did for us, and for giving us a wedding reception sent from heaven!
A. W.
Fantastic venue. We had a 40th birthday party at Le Gothique and Mark and his team were excellent from first enquiry to after party tidy up. All those who attended had nothing but hugely positive comments about the staff, the food and the venue.
A. R.
The food is fantastic and place quiet and romantic.

Lovely food, generous portions, good service, quirky place. Bit of a hidden gem. Real shame how few people were there on a Saturday night.
R. P.
The food was excellent, and nothing was too much trouble. A superb celebration lunch for 24 people, dining outside under giant umbrellas in a beautiful location in the middle of London.

A wonderful venue (google it's history, and you'll see). Not tried the restaurant, but been to 3 beer festivals there, and the festival food was great, home made and good value too.

Came here for a comedy show in the open air quadrant. What a splendid location. Bar serves good beer. Nice crowd. Good comedy.

First pint in a glass of lockdown. AND there are toilets. I'm in my element.

Beerfestival: Ok range of beer, nothing stand out. Not as good as the Ealing festival which has much more music and space, not as crammed... Not enough wizards to spot, very normal after work crew. Nice historical building.
B. F.
An absolute gem of a restaurant. Difficult to find but absolutely well worth the effort when you do.
Highly recommended, incredible cuisine, fantastic staff, great ambience. (I've run out of superlatives!)
A must visit restaurant.
B. G.
Disappointing meal if your after a French menu. The only thing French is the writing in the menu!! There's only about 4 tables and that's in the main bar!! Good service though!!
A. W.
Lovely little bistro bar, not the easiest to find but so worth the effort once you get there; lovely grounds, spectacular decour and amazing staff!
B. L.
Never get tired of the great beer festivals held here, my only quibble is they still only take cash which feels a bit too old school
F. E.
A lovely atmosphere in a stunning building. Absolutely delicious food. A gem of a place!

Great food, wonderful surroundings

Fantastic location, and feel, but the service is incredibly old fashioned and it is a bit like faulty towers. Not modern and sophisticated

The venue managers and workers were exceedingly professional as they organised a delicious three-course meal for ~150 students and staff. The bang for buck factor at Le Gothique is unlike anything we've seen before and the staff help in every step of the process. Could not recommend higher for large formal events
