Reviews of Mai Thai Restaurant
M. L.
My favourite Thai restaurant!! Been here many times and yesterday for the first time after lockdown. Food is always great, good portions and tasty, service is nice and efficient, cosy atmosphere, love the decorations!! I had a great evening as always.. definitely recommend if you are in the area..
N. B.
Can't believe I haven't eaten here sooner. Beautiful food, friendly staff, good atmosphere.... Can't fault it. I had the cod with sticky rice last night and would gladly drive the 10miles to eat it again. Gorgeous. Will definitely be returning.
L. S.
Amazing Thai food!! Lovely service with a smile. Going back for sure. Photo is of the Pad Thai with chicken, yum!
C. J.
The food here was very flavorful and tasty, look forward to doing it again especially in the welcoming atmosphere it has.
Highly recommend that you order for the table and share with some good friends. Bon appetit.
M. M.
Small place. Typical London prices . £3.50 for a bottled Singha. Food was good quality but portions were small. Overall nothing wrong but have had better .Green tea was unusual as a flower slowly " grew" in the glass .
R. J.
We went to the restaurant for lunch. It was full of old people taking advantage of their value lunch menu. We had problems ordering because their was only one waitress ordering. I didn’t fancy something typical so I went for steamed bass, it was not bad but don’t come with anything so i ordered rice separately. Lychee martini was average and the sparkling water tasted strange.
R. R.
Overall ok food with high prices. 2 starters+2 mains+2 drinks are £80, out of which £10 is only the service. The pad thai is overly sweet (please put less sugar in it), the starters (spring rolls, prawn pockets) are rather average despite being served with plum sauce instead of sweet chilli sauce. The fish dish I had (cod) was very bland - just deep fried small pieces of fish next to a sad dry salad of shredded carrots and cabbage with no seasoning. Their cocktails are very potent and pack a punch but bear in mind they are variations of the classic cocktails - the mojito came as strawberry mojito with sliced strawberries in it, the mai tai came as a blue drink with salt on the side and no fruits in it. Drinks were a surprise but were still enjoyable. The service was good though they do tend to forget to bring tap water. Don’t know if I would revisit.
R. K.
Always were happy there. Great food and great service! You might find it a bit pricy but it worth the try! If it wasn't that pricy I would've gone there every week to have their pad-thai!
T. G.
We really enjoyed the food and the service. I had the Penang Curry and it has excellent flavor. It is a very cute and cozy restaurant
V. S.
Have to say it's a nice quaint restaurant, the food was tasty and well worth it. The food came out on and there wasn't any problem there. However I do feel the service could improve a tad as we did have to ask the waiters to get items quite a few times after they kept forgetting the first time. All in all it wasn't a bad experience and I would definitely go back.
郭.
Amazing food, very friendly service

Comfortable atmosphere with tasty food. Enjoyed Thai style stake Weeping Tiger and its sauce was very unique and delicious.
g.
One of my favourite Thai places. Its small but cosy and the staff are always attentive!
Food is amazing and such a decent price. From plates to cutlery, it has a very elegant touch for the design.
C. C.
Lovely Thai food. Have even altered to local taste however still very yummy!
A. C.
Cute and Cosy restaurant with Lovely food. Good atmosphere for catch ups and the shu mai dumplings were the best I’ve ever had…
a. s.
My husband and I ordered Gaeng Kiew ( spicy chicken green curry with rice) , Panang Gai (creamy &mild chicken red curry with rice ) , sateh Gai ( chicken skewers) , Thai iced milk tea and ginger beer. Everything from drinks to starters and mains was amazing. It tasted really good and the portions were adequate. The place has an authentic Thai touch to it and perfect for a quiet cosy meal. Being a Thai food admirer I can say I thoroughly enjoyed my food here.
A. K.
Lovely ambience n friendly staff.
D. B.
Wow, an authentic thai food restaurant. Loves the food. Although the place is small, but it presents a nicely decorated authentic thai environment. This small corner restaurant is no less in the taste when it comes to foods it serves. Good to enjoy.
P. S.
This Thai place is a nice little spot. The lunch deal is great value for money and food is solid and tasty.
M. M.
Very friendly staff, food overall OK, a bit overpriced but you pay on Wimbledon' prices.
M. D.
Been a regular over the years and most of the time it's really nice. Last Saturday however we noticed a difference in the food. The rice portion was ridiculously small!! The fish cakes were delicious, the soup was ok but not to the usual standard. We chose Weeping Tiger as it's a favourite dish for us but never tried it here. It was quite pricey at nearly 15 quid! The steak was like piece of gristly leather! Bashed out so thin it had no chance of being pink in the middle. We tried to get the attention of the waitress but she appeared to be working alone and didn't have the heart to complain to her. We had a bottle of wine as we normally do and our bill was nearly £100!! It certainly wasn't £100 quality. Whether there was issues with the staff in the kitchen? We'll be leaving it for a long while and hopefully is will improve and be more consistent in the future. Disappointed
D. M. G.
We went to Mai Thai for the first time during the Eat Out To Help Out scheme and were very impressed with their food. Today we saw them on Deliveroo and ordered again and were not disappointed. The crispy Wanton and the battered Cod main with rice are phenomenal. In my opinion Mai Thai is one of the best Thai restaurants in London (and we go to many). I really hope they will keep afloat during this awful time and will bounce back strong in 2021! Many thanks!

Small restaurant ! But good food ! Good service ! Special tea !
P.
Tasty meal with ample portions. Very busy on Friday night.
A. D.
Very good food, quick service. Rather pricey though!
J. A.
I love this place. Thai food, served so well. Only good things to say.
S.
Excellent food, brilliant service, what a wonderful way to spend an evening. Cool ahead if you can, this place is usually full!
V. T.
Lovely and small restaurant with tasty and special food. It was a real thai experience for me.
G. S.
Very nice and atmospheric place we visited 1st time and will definitely visit again.
Fantastic, tasty food and original drinks.
Many thanks.
T. M. B.
Amazing food very tasty 😋
Amazing service very frequently
Everything is positive I will recommend.
B. G.
Great taste and service. 12.5 percent service charge however and food wasn't piping hot. But the bloody flavours make up for everything. Beer was a bit pricey also. But regardless a great place for a treat. Small venue but great decor
J. T.
Nice friendly atmosphere ! Good fresh food at a reasonable price .
1. 1.
Curry was flavourful & authentic, mains slightly small portions but fine service & location. Clean and well presented.
A. T.
Food was good and an adequate quantity but not a lot of beef in the Penang Beef red curry.
The restaurant is quite small and there is not a lot of room. Toilets are upstairs and there is no elevator.... have to climb the stairs! They are clean but only room for one!
W. U.
Authentic and aromatic thai food at its best. We had Pad Thai and Thai Green Curry. They were delicious and mouthwatering. Food weren't spicy but they were flavourful. It was easy to find. Definitely recommend it if you want some good thai food for sure.
C. R.
I thoroughly enjoyed the ambiance and service - the waitress was super friendly and polite. The panang curry and egg fried rice were both simply, utterly delicious! The pad thai noodles tasted a bit rubbery and not very fresh but that could be forgiven by the other excellent aspects of our meal. The slices of orange to snack on after the meal, on the house, was a fantastic touch. I will most definitely be back!!
K. S.
Really good food and decent options for vegetarians. The waitress checked everything with the kitchen regarding allergies to ensure it was safe.
The ambiance is nice and warm. Good place for couples or small groups. It attracts a trendy crowd and conveniently located.
Would go here again if I'm around Wimbledon..
A. H.
Great service by the young lady (with the international schooled background). With a smile!!
The food is served very quickly....possibly a little too quickly. I suspect the sauce and meat/veg is precooked, and when the customers order, the kitchen staff adds the sauce to the meat/fish/veg and it is just served, which means that the meat doesn't really absorb the flavouring.
There was a Malbec which was delightful, and only £22.95 for the bottle.
A. P.
Nice venue, food was ok, not amazing
J. C.
A bit slow service but the food were all amazing. Highly recommend.
A. G.
This was the best Thai that I'd had in London in a while! The service was excellent and the food was top notch. I ordered the vegetarian pad gra pow which was bursting with flavour- just the right amounts of chilli and sweet basil. Everyone in the party enjoyed their meals and my husband, who orders Thai fish cakes at every Thai restaurant, gave Mai Thai's a big thumbs up. More than enough veggie options. Portions were just right and the bill was reasonable. Thanks for a delicious meal!
S. C.
Nice, reasonably priced Thai place with lovely staff. We've been a couple of times and it's always been good. Most recently, we went when it was (surprisingly) very busy and the two waiting staff were still very nice and attentive while the dealt with the rush. And the food was delicious and still came quickly too. All in all, very good!
J. N.
Wait staff are friendly, observant and efficient. Food tastes authentic and I saw mostly Thai patrons as well as wait staff. Price point is good value for portion sizes and ingredient quality. Plenty of fresh vegetables and seafood.
A. H.
My favourite Thai place locally.
Red Curry is perfect, and the dipping sauce with the Spring Rolls is the best.
However, it’s a seriously difficult, if not impossible process to order using the online website, and they’re not on Deliveroo, so sometimes I order from somewhere else.
S. M.
Authentic thai experience, Delicious pad thai and Green curry.
T. A.
Good Thai food but nothing extraordinary in
This was our second visit to this restaurant. The ingredients used are fresh but nothing spectacular about their taste. Portions are just enough. We were also surprised that they charge extra for giving some chillies to make the good
The decor of the restaurant is pleasing and service is friendly.
J. L.
Ordered via uber eats Thai green curry, sticky rice and chicken skewers.
Chicken skewers cold and partially pink inside just binned them not worth the risk.
Rice was nice, Thai green curry was bit watery but had great flavour shame about portion size not enough chicken.
Would give it another go I'm sure it's must nicer when eating in
S. K.
Never a disappointment. Great Thai food. Recently refurbished upstairs group dining area.
They also do a great Lunch menu which is very reasonably priced.
I've been here with my colleagues several times and never once been disappointed.
A. B.
Very good and good quality !
No expensive and friendly restaurant !
G. U.
If you don’t have a booking, you’ll get shoved upstairs. The customer turn over is so fast so they tell you they will need the table back I’m so and so minutes. However i can’t complain as me and my boyfriend went in without a booking and they were pleasant and accommodating. Food was also decent and service was prompt for a busy restaurent.
S.
I had the lunch menu, food was ok, but the service was gruff (there was a male waiter serving everyone), I asked for a table in the corner and I got a flat no. If you don't want to offer certain tables, don't prepare them, and there is a way of saying something. I won't go back again.
C. G.
We loved our meal at Mai Thai. The atmosphere is soothing and inspiring. The service was courteous and the food was excellent. Highly recommend this restaurant.
R. W.
Decent enough Thai restaurant that will tick most boxes though won't blow you away. On our visit we got a table upstairs, which lacked the coziness and charm of the ground floor but again was fine though not particularly memorable. The food? You've probably guessed, it was nice but not exceptional. They do serve Beer Lao which is Asia's greatest beer so fill your boots when you visit. If Mai Thai was a car it would be a Volvo.
J. T.
Amaaaaazing and authentic thai food! Very thoughtful touches too - they swapped our plates to hot plates for hot dishes and there were oranges after meal. Really comfy and nice interior as well - feels like I’m back in Asia. Recommended!
A. H.
It's ok but that's about all. Our order got mixed up, food was tasty but there are so many better Thai restaurants in the area. We got seated upstairs where the restaurant is not well kept. Overall average meal out.
M.
Mai Thai has been in Wimbledon for a longtime. The quality of food is consistently good but not exceptional. The environment is traditional, a bit dated but pleasant. The service is good and the prices are reasonable. It can get a bit crowded even during weekdays.
F. K.
Went for the express lunch here. It was fast, filling and delicious. I shared a starter and had a diet coke. Everything cost £12. Bargain. Be warned it does get very busy so I booked a table
W. T.
Amazing food, polite staff. Would have been a five but service was extremely slow due to a large group entering the resteraunt just before us. We ended up waiting an hour and a half.
G. G.
Lovely place Food delicious Lovely company
B. K.
Small restaurant with a nice atmosphere and delicious Thai food. The portions were on the smaller side but otherwise great
P. G.
Lovely and cozy Thai restaurant. The food was absolutely delicious and the service was great. Can't wait to go back.
S. H.
Amazing food. The lady who served us was so lovely and gave us great recommendations! Will definitely be back again
M. R.
Amazing food and lovely ambience for a lovely birthday meal
E. P.
Always a great visit and scrummy food. In the heart of Wimbledon this authentic Thai restaurant is always able to accommodate you and the service is fast and efficient regardless of how busy it is. Generally get the vegetable green curry and sticky rice, and I have never been disappointed - even when gotten as takeaway. Prices are very reasonable for Wimbledon too. Mai Thai has a loyal customer in me!
T. R.
Nice atmosphere and surroundings. Decent food, but quite abrupt service and far too expensive (£44 each for starter, main course, dessert and a bottle of wine). Many better and much cheaper Thai restaurants in South West London eg. Kao Sarn.
D. T.
A good little Thai restaurant in Wimbledon. The food has always been high quality, and the staff friendly. The impression is that of a family owned restaurant. Modest prices. A little cramped inside, so not the place if you want to have a lot of privacy.
N. H.
I have been meaning to eat at this restaurant for quite some time now and I am glad I've finally done it.
The food and staff are excellent and I will be back here again very soon.
Keep up the good work.
M. N.
Wonderful place - food delicious, lots of choice, prices reasonable, service friendly and quick, good ambience. Loved it will definitely go again.
R. M.
Had lunch here on Saturday, wasn't too busy. The pad Thai was delicious as was their mango sticky rice. Highly recommend.
K. C.
The food was great. Staff were friendly but service was a little slow. Overall we had a great time!
b. L. R.
Lovely food. Good service. Will return!
M. E.
Too small and cramped, very little space to move around. Food was ok .I had prawns in crispy batter but there were hardly any prawns there were more batter.
H. J.
Great food, staff are welcoming, always a variety of customers and ages too. Not cheap, but not very expensive - especially for Wimbledon High Street - it's nice and cosy in all the right ways.
H. D.
Delicious food, lovely drinks and great vibe
R. N.
Friendly staff, great food, been regularly going to this restaurant for months now. The penang curry and steam fish is really good and highly recommended! Dont forget the taro warm dessert too
R. D.
This is a really nice cosy place, with great food and lovely waiters. I come here fairly often, and they never fail to meet expectations.
B. L.
Good food, friendly, prompt service. As others mentioned, portion sizes could be larger. We had staters and a main, and still had room for a popcorn at the movies later.
H. B.
It's OK, the food is nice enough. Staff are not particularity welcoming but also not rude, they come across as staff who serve.
The food is expensive and the quality seems OK.
J. R.
Truly amazing... Food was spot on the staff was great... Would recommend the sweet n sour... best ever tasted... n I have a fair few in my time
4.
Good quality food, but the main took over 45 min to arrive but it was a Saturday. Worth trying the Green Thai Curry.
l. h.
Food was amazing and good service.
T. 8.
Food quality 10/10
Customer service 10/10
Bigger location with more space would be better. Otherwise highly recommend
C. N.
Great authentic Thai food, the lunch menu is my favourite as it has items different to the dinner menu like Kao Soy, Kao Mun Gai and and Nam Tok.
H. B.
Best Thai restaurant around!! Always good, staff always helpful and friendly. Would always recommend their quality food to anyone.
A. S.
Great Thai food, staff went out of their way to make us feel welcome.
S. M.
Quite simply fantastic Thai food, don't come here expecting food as great as Thailand, but this is as close as you're going to get in Wimbledon that's for sure.
J. O.
Really nice restaurant. But really tight on spaces between tables. The food was good as was the service.
I. R.
The staff were really friendly and helpful. It is a cosy restaurant with a variety of dishes to choose from.
L. L.
