Reviews of Marugame Udon

If you are up this way, this place is certainly worth a stop. Right in the heart of the City of London, you can get an excellent Chicken and Sticky Rice meal for under 7 Pounds. They even offer you a glass for all the water you can drink. Food is attractively laid out, tasty and the staff and wonderful. Its become my new favourite place to eat in London!

FANTASTIC PRICES and GREAT FOOD. Just like they have it in Japan. Probably the best value quality food you can get in London and some of the most authentic udon as well. Can’t recommend enough. Also has this little unlimited refill bar with water, spring onions, ginger etc.

Amazing Udon in London you can find. How dare you believe that you can find a fair price authentic Japanese food in the heart of city ( I just paid £6.9 for all items in the picture with coupon). Excellent service, reasonable price, 美味しいうどん!

Been twice now and I love this place as a casual lunch spot in the city. It's canteen-style so don't be put off by any queues - it should move fairly quickly. The staff are on the whole friendly and the price is reasonable. The noodle soups are definitely the best thing - noodles have a great texture and the broth is flavoursome. The fried yaki dishes are not bad too but definitely not as good. Tempura bar is great idea - love that you can mix & match your favourite ones and the batter has been delicious and crisp each time.

Love udon so it was always going to be a winner! The concept was really cool so it’s a conveyor belt you go along with a your tray pick your udon, sides drinks and after you pay you can sit wherever you like. Almost like school dinner lol
The chicken katsu curry udon was delicious really flavoursome and you can can garnish it yourself with chill, spring onions there was soo much too choose from! Got carried away with the sides everything is fired in a tempura style batter so it’s quite filling. seating and the atmosphere was pleasant oh and the staff very lovely

I've been waiting over a year to try this place out the famous udon chain hailing all the way from Japan.
The instant I walked through the front door you're whisked away from London directly to Japan well that's the vibe I got. You're greeted with the lovely smell of the food cooking. The way you order is pretty much like a buffet line at ikea you pick your udon (main) first before chugging along to the tempura station to pick your sides.
I ordered the Beef Nikutama (sweet beef stew) which was sweet based but so lovely and full of umame. I also picked a savory selection of fried treats , tempura, pumpkin koroke, chicken akaage and gyoza.
The udon was slurply divine ✨️ besides koya I have not had such delicious udon the texture was chewy yet soft which balanced well with my topping. The fried tempura was fresh and light. I highly recommend getting the draught Aishi it was so refreshing!
The venue itself was a typical canteen set up , after paying for your food you find your own seats , no reservations. Thete was plenty of seats though it was a lunch rush we managed to find seats.
This was definitely worth the wait and try. Though I must say it was more expensive than I anticipated, especially knowing in Japan it costs a fraction of the price. However I still think its straight 5 stars 🌟

Everyone talks about the portions being huge, but in reality it’s just a lot of rice. I really don’t mind self-service and appreciate the idea. But there is much room for improvement here, it was a little confusing on ordering.
The chicken needed to cook a little more, the Katsu lacked sauce too. If there things would be improved it can be 4-5 stars. Otherwise, I do recommend it for a casual meal.

Fairly priced, amazing service and good quantities.
The udon is spectacular but the tempura is so so tasty. Lots of vegan options as a well so a perfect restaurant for any dietary preferences.

Really good udon! I didn’t expect it to be so nice considering it’s more of a fast food atmosphere. But I enjoyed the broth, noodles were springy and the tempura were nicely crunchy, although the dipping sauce lacked flavor. Highly recommend for a quick lunch:)

I've not actually been to Marugame in Japan but happy to see authentic Japanese udon shop open in the UK. Udon had decent firmness and broth has good sweetness and fishiness.
Tempura was good, apart from the squid which was peppery and too large and the batter slipped off. Nice to see tempura egg, a true sign of Kansai udon.
Quick and reasonably priced. Look forward to more branches opening in central London.
