Reviews of Maxim Chinese Restaurant Ealing, London, Peking Cuisine
b. r.
One of the best Chinese restaurants I’ve eaten ,but food rate falls as bit pricey menu , pork ribs were the best , staffs were bit inattentive!!
C. W.
I found this restaurant very good. I think it is one or the best in this area. The service is old school. Proper and good lining on the table. Food is in smaller portion and still tasty. The location is good and in walking distance to Northfield station.
The restaurant is very huge. The decor is nice and the bathrooms are clean.
Food wise this is one of the best Chinese restaurant in west London suburbs. Some people have negative reviews which I don't understand. But have been to quite a few restaurants locally I think this is a restaurant for people looking for fine dining, not casual ones. I am glad I found this restaurant.
S. J.
The restaurant gives a positive appeal from the outside but the interior is even better. The space is well used and uncrowded and there is considerable depth to the premises which are intelligently designed. I had the particular benefit of visiting during the Christmas period and appreciated the quality and attention to detail of the beautiful festive decor. I enjoyed the meal which, being the most important thing, was a pleasant experience and the atmosphere was pleasant. All in all a positive experience. I will most likely return again.
P. B.
Great food. Pricey but worth it. Quick service and nice ambiance.
E. C.
Great food, great service, definitely good value! One of the Ealing favourites and been going here since I was a child. The lady Jenny and the guy Danny always treat me an my guests well and was a pleasure to dine in person after what has felt like an age!
Better to go here during the quieter times than peak times, the place can get packed on the weekends.
J. J.
I went with a friend who has been going here for years, I can see why, the food is great nice atmosphere. Would go again.
P. !.
So good excellent service, great food, nice and local, nice quieter atmosphere but still with a bizz. Brilliant staff. Loved it.
D. R.
Best fragrant crispy duck. Always excellent food. Delicious and fresh.
Service is always good too.
R. S.
Food is lovely!!! Would love a larger bowl for the chilli sauce so I don't have to keep asking 😋
R. D.
Very good meal had sizzling squid, special fried rice, ma po tofu, cabbage and pork and mixed vegetables. Polite service and family friendly.
B. K.
Good food that tastes freshly prepared. Prices on higher side but worth it and the packed restaurant is testament to that. Lots of chilli infused dishes if you like that kind of thing. Nice decor with busy but friendly staff. Worth a visit if you are in the Northfields area!
M. L.
Fabulous fresh food and pleasant ambience. Love this restaurant. I’ve been going here for decades and it never disappoints. We had a birthday meal with veggie starters, delicious spicy prawns and sea bass. All was cooked perfectly and topped off with good wine and service.
N. M.
Enjoyed a dinner out with my family ; Staff is friendly and nice, food quality is good,
To me the prices were high as they were displayed, they also add service charge which is kind of ok, but on top of it the put VAT?! I have never seen a restaurant where the listed price in the menu is without VAT.
It was ok, but I doubt I will be a returning customer there
N. G.
It's all about the crispy beef (but everything they do is a cut above the rest)
S. W.
The food here is delicious. You can taste the love and care that has gone into these dishes. Fresh and beautifully cooked and seasoned, this is a place to take your time and enjoy your food. The staff are very helpful and attentive without being over bearing. The venue is very clean and well presented, and set up in such a way that you can sit comfortably and talk without feeling you are being too loud. Would highly recommend this restaurant experience.
P. B.
Dined in the restaurant, great food! Really attentive service and definitely will be back again!
A. G.
Good food excellent service but getting a bit pricey
D. R.
Love it here, the owner is so lovely, alongside her staff, its beautifully decorated and the food is brilliant, one of the best Chinese restaurants I've ever been too.
K. H.
We've eaten here a few times over the last 10 years - for us it's reserved for special occasions for us and friends - and we've always enjoyed. It the service is friendly and attentive without being overbearing. We like the restaurant ambiance and as a local neighbourhood restaurant (rather than tourist) it feels as though you're amongst friends. Suggest wearing trousers or skirt with elasticated waist !!!!
S. M.
There is a reason why this restaurant has been around for so many years 😍 the food is light, fresh and delicious. It is expensive for a Chinese restaurant but the quality of the cuisine justifies the cost
A. R.
Good chinese, halal ,Fast service BUT you feel rushed..
G. T.
This restaurant is overall very normal. It is the type of Chinese restaurant for non Chinese people. The crispy duck and soft shell crab are good and worth a try, but the rest dishes are small and very very normal taste. If you’re Chinese, don’t go.
C. T.
Couldn't rate this place highly enough. The staff are friendly and very attentive. The food is amazing and the restaurant itself looks great. If you are in West Ealing and are looking for a good Chinese restaurant, choose Maxim.
D. M.
We had a set meal this evening with our family (children 13 and 8) and were completely blown away. The service was so attentive we felt like we were royalty. The quality of the food was perfect and the delicate flavours of the sea bass were incredible. The house wine is delightful. Amazing.
R. B.
Food usual high standard we've come to expect from the restaurant. Covid-19 means takeout/delivery only, but ordered takeaway on the spot and got 15% discount. Food was ready faster than we expected and portions were good size.
a. a.
Very pleasurable experience with the family. Waiters were very helpful especially Salman. Assisted with ordering the correct quantity and the menu had variety.
Portions are quite large so caution when ordering- 6 of us
3 starters, 3 soups, 1/2duck. 2 mains, 2 rice 1 noodles. Was ample food no more needed.
Only negative- no fresh juices available but this was so minor as the food and service made up for it.
S. M. (.
A secret gem, with an astonishing menu - long, interesting and varied, and great service.
G. F.
Nice food, friendly people and plenty of choice - would recommend.
B. R.
Quick, friendly service. Would order the fish slices with ginger again but the fried tofu with soy sauce wasn't tasty at all. Prices were reasonable but portions were very small.
R. S.
Not your typical 'local' Chinese restaurant. Way better in fact. Menu is unique with some authentic dishes as well as the favourites. Decor, service and quality of food is better than restaurants in this category. This is no local takeaway. You can actually have a nice date or family/friends dinner in the evening.
S. W.
Placed an order via Deliveroo. There was an item missing, however when I telephoned the manager was incredibly kind and drove the missing item over himself. I don't know why others have reported rudeness from this restaurant, based on my experience they are very nice people.
The food was good. The only thing is, I'd have loved a couple more pancakes for the Crispy Duck, there was so much duck we ran out of pancakes! Not a bad problem to have of course. The Plum sauce was a little salty, but then it generally is... a little drizzle is all you need.
Thanks again for your great customer service, next time I get a craving for duck pancakes and crispy beef, I'll be coming straight to you guys!

I love Maxims!!
My family and I have been coming here since before I was born (I'm now 20.) In that time I can genuinely say I've been unhappy with the food about 3 times and I eat here at least once a month- The staff are wonderfully friendly and welcoming, the service is always great for us, it's always bustling with people when we go in and the restaurant has such a chilled atmosphere. The food is so wonderful, I rue eating at any another Chinese restaurant because to me they just don't compare, especially where I live. The chili beef is insane, their rice is always so light and fluffy and all dishes look and taste so freshly prepared and full bodied in flavour and texture. Everybody has different tastes but I couldn't recommend this place enough!!!
P. B.
Good quality food with a good atmosphere. Just be careful there's an automatic surcharge of 12.5% which gives a nasty sting when you get the bill. It suddenly becomes expensive. Meal with a coke seems to average £33.
N. B.
Service and food have increased massively in quality since I last went there 5 years ago. Said to myself i wouldn't go back but as it was a group party was compelled. Best prawns on toast I have ever had. All the food was good and service is miles above what it used to be, the duty manger was especially attentive and jolly
P. M.
Decent chinese restaurant with ample of space, ideal for the 'normal' dining. The duck was lovely, so was the aubergine, mapo and the sweet and sour king prawns
A. W.
Great food but, the service is very slow on some occasions. I recently ordered my usual dish of chilli beef, which normally is ready in 30-35 minutes. I was waiting over an hour for food. The waiters also had no idea about anything that was going on in the kitchen, as if they were two different countries.
Food here is always close to being the best, shame the service falls well below standard on busy times.
A.
The food here is really high quality and the restaurant has a really nice atmosphere- in large part due to the authentic feel the place has due to all the 'traditional' Chinese paintings on the walls.
The prices are really high though, there's no doubt about that- so if you want a cheap and cheerful Chinese this is not the place to go! But for a nice treat it works well.
O. O.
Very nice interior decoration.
Food was tasty, but I lost my appetite after finding a corner of a plastic packet in my rice.
The manager did apologise eventually after I approached him when he did not come back after I showed him the plastic. He waived the fee for my meal which was fair.
Good for groups of people.
Set menu is good.
Just a shame about the plastic.
S. H.
40 years young and still deserving great food
M. B.
A great Chinese food experience that doesn't depart too far from Western Chinese food, but offers a uniqueness that makes it much more than any other Chinese restaurant. While I only tried a handful of plates from the menu, they were delicious. The ribs are considered one of their specialties, however, I was a bit underwhelmed as they were a bit dry and oily. The beef in chili sauce was delicious and was both sweet and spicy. Their duck is delicious and rivals any place in central London's Chinatown. For an outpost on a small street in Ealing, this is a great place to visit for easy-to-enjoy Chinese food.
P. K.
As a family we have used Maxim's for a few decades and have never been disappointed. We have taken many friends with us and they unanimously voice that it is the best restaurant they have ever visited for oriental food.p
J. L.
The head waiter was a bit surly when we turned up without a booking on a Sat eve. If he didn't have space, he could have just apologetically told us so. We were sternly told to sit & wait, but a table became available in 10 mins, so it didn't seem to have been as much of an issue as he made out.
The restaurant still looks very attractive with its beautiful wall pieces, white table cloths & subtle lighting. I like the layout which provides more intimate seating in some areas.
Our order was taken by a young man who was pleasant, but seemed to need more training, as when we ordered a platter, listed as being for 2, he said we'd have to order 2 if we both wanted it. Even when I pointed out the words in the menu, he looked doubtful & said he'd check on it.
The prawn crackers, brought on a serviette in a basket, had soaked through parts of the paper, due to their oiliness. A few were too drenched to eat.
The meal came quickly, but I found the chicken on skewers, in the platter, were overcooked, dried out & inedible. The seaweed was spoiled by having too much salt & sugar on it. The ribs were succulent, with just the right amount of seasoning so I wished there had been more of those.
The special fried rice seemed more like boiled white rice with a few small prawns, egg & some seasoning mixed around in it. I enjoyed the pork & Chinese fungus dish, although I thought mushrooms would've sounded a little more appetising. Overall, it was a pretty average meal, & not really worth the cost.
C. L.
Fabulous food, friendly staff. Crispy Duck is Delicious! Wonderful surroundings and an excellent venue for a business lunch. Ideal venue for entertaining friends or having a family celebration. Excellent range of tasty dishes here.
T. M.
Some dishes are really nice. Manager is always looks unhappy.
For 10 years we are eating her, but the manager is not the nicest person in the world.
Place is nice and clean.
R. L.
Great food, lovely atmosphere. I would have given them 5 stars except for the arrogant matre'd. He may have been the owner or manager, but none the less an arrogant SOB. Maybe I wasn't dressed for the Friday night crowd or I looked out of place. I was asked to eat in an hour or less because of "reservations" later that evening. The website does not state that e reservation was required, so I walked in expecting a table. I ate at a leisurely pace and finished well under an hour. Everyone else was very polite and accommodating, only that one guy was the problem.
J. S.
My family as far as I can remember has been going to Maxims or ordering from them since the time they have been here. Staff is very courteous and the service is exemplary. Food taste good specially the crispy duck which is one of my favourites. Definitely order it when you are here or ordering from here.
P. G.
We had an amazing meal here for an incredibly reasonable price. Great service, fantastic food and a nice traditional Chinese setting. We're a couple and had 3 courses + a bottle of wine for £65. Highly recommended!
E. H.
We used to live in Ealing and went to Maxim’s Frequently. We’ve moved away now but my son requested a return for his 15th birthday. My now vegan daughter was concerned she wouldn’t be able to eat... We had an awesome meal and Danny the Manager (who hasn’t aged in 10 years) arranged vegetable spring rolls, seaweed and delicious vegetable rice noodles for the vegan fayre. The rest of us had their incredible crispy duck, I had wraparound lettuce minced chicken (not on the menu special request) - awesome! Sweet and sour chicken, chicken and cashew nut, vegetable rice and egg rice. The service was (as always) wonderful- and my son got his toffee banana apple ice cream pudding thing with the lovely happy birthday sing song at the end . Happy days! This is a very special and unique Chinese restaurant in our opinion and well worth going for a special night out.
R. W.
Agree with other reviews. Definitely one of the best Chinese restaurants in the area. Food was good. Decor and vibe excellent. Unfortunately the staff lacks a bit of customer service and attention to details, as reported in other reviews, which is a bit of a shame
P. S.
Very busy and popular, though pricey. Food was excellent and service was good. Will go again.
D. L.
This is not a Chinese Takeaway, even if you can get takeaway. It is a somewhat up market Chinese restaurant. The decor is certainly a cut above the bog standard Chinese. The unfortunate offhand manner of the order-taking waiter was a shame. Otherwise service was polite and efficient and the food was good.
B. Q.
Food was delicious! Had to push back my reservation and they were very accommodating even on a busy night. Great service and food came out pretty quickly too.
P. B.
Food pretty good especially the aromatic duck. Felt a little rushed which was a shame Also the continual noise of the pressure pump blowing up their Valentine's balloons for the coming Tuesday in the backgroud was off putting. Overall best come in earlier in the evening and maybe the atmosphere would be overall better. Pricey but average all in.
J. C.
Great atmosphere inside - decor is a bit 80s but in the good way and in good condition. Good quality food and ingredients which justify the slightly higher prices. They have lazy Susans on some of the tables, which I love, but only for parties of 5 or more.
S. B.
Delicious food. Our favourite is the crispy duck which is just awesome here. Good choice of drinks too.
They were happy to bring us a Birthday Cake and sing with lots of passion.........
S. D.
A bit pricey but high quality
F. i. h. w.
Service is very nice and the place itself looks good.
Food is average though: I was happy but my girlfriend has not been excited.
Also if you are Gluten intolerant, massive warning for you: they have no idea what it means!
S. G.
Really good Chinese food and professional staff. They're let down by the price and the mandatory 12.5% service charge... And sometimes the bill comes entirely in Chinese. Get the hot starter selection and duck, then the crispy shredded beef.
G. S.
Oh Maxims in Northfields Ave is Ealing’s best kept secret! It is excellent in every way, professional, helpful and lovely staff, excellent quality food, lovely surroundings,
Most definitely the best Restaurent I have been in for a while.
Myself and three friends went in earlier this evening and the prawn and ginger was so delicious, the crispy duck was by far the best I have eaten
Thank you so much to all at Maxims I would love to come back soon

My friends took me here last Friday, and I can say that I'm already one of their biggest fans. Everything was great - from the decor to the food. The staff were cheery, smiling and made us feel really special. Highly recommend this place!
X. Z.
Sooo good! One of the best Chinese restaurants I have tried in London. <3 I tried Tofu, Fish and Vegetable rice, simple and healthy Chinese dishes Yam! <3
S. S.
Elegant decor, good service. I prefer better cooked chicken and have had better pulled Peking duck. Starters, prawns, vegetables, beef stripes were very good
J. F.
We always have a great time, staff extremely courteous and faultless and food is delicious. Decor is beautiful and inviting. Maxims will always be our 'go to' restaurant for family celebrations!
J. T.
This is an award winning family-run Chinese Restaurant that serves delicious authentic Peking Cuisine, and is tastefully decorated in an oriental-style. So whether you want their signature spare-ribs, crispy aromatic duck or something more adventurous this is an excellent restaurant to try!
L. P.
Very elegant and welcoming spot. They provide large portions and for affordable rates.
R. T.
Food and service were excellent! We felt very well looked after (especially with the help of the staff regarding gluten free dishes). We will be back!
J. M.
Great restaurant, with fantastic food! Danny can seem a bit abrupt, but once he sings 'Happy Birthday' you'll forgive and forget
S. K.
A great evening with very attentive service, lovely atmosphere and great food. We were a party of 6 and had a fab evening. Highly recommended.
S. M.

C. T.
Delicious food, well cooked and good cuality. Lovely staff. Clean pleace, and very nice atmosphere.
S. J.
Went here with my bowling club for a dinner and having been here before was a bit disappointed. The quality of the food has certainly suffered over the past couple of years and given the prices I wouldn't consider going back.
J. C.
High standard of Chinese food. Amazing shredded beef, spare ribs and crispy duck! I always end the meal with its yummy toffee banana with ice cream!
T. A.
Been going there for over 20 years, always good!

We went there for the first time today and found it great. Good food, good taste and excellent treatment by their staff. 👍
C.
For the quality of food and price you pay it can be quite expensive. The atmosphere is always jovial and especially so when there's a birthday in the house.

As a rule I normally stick to Chinese restaurants in Chinatown or Queensway but gave this a go and was very pleasantly surprised. We went for a set menu and although its not cheap the portions were massive and every dish was really tasty. Service was fine, certainly better than many restaurants and all the staff seemed friendly making the visit very pleasant indeed. I will go back.

(Translated) Usually it's great and the last time there was a different change. I think new and they served dishes that contained gluten despite the fact that at the beginning we said that all but one of the dishes should be gluten-free. The service tried, but this evening was unsuccessful
