Reviews of Native

I had Native's 'Regenuary' menu yesterday and was seriously impressed. The trout with leche de tigre and labneh and the zero-waste snacks were an absolute hit, all served up in a beautiful space with warm service. We had to order the signature wood pigeon kebab for good measure and it didn't disappoint. Highly recommended!

Wonderful dinner! The sign of a good place for me is if my favorite dish on the menu is vegetarian. the dishes were exceptionally creative and tasty and the staff seem really knowledgeable, friendly and in-line with the ideals of the restaurant. We will definitely be back to try things as the menu changes
A. H.
Incredible food experience. The set menu is well worth the time. the snacks are interesting and delightful. Plenty of food and imo exceptional value.
J. K.
Memorable dishes and lovely environment and team. there were three of us at dinner and between us we tried almost everything on the menu - the stand out dishes were the unexpected ones for us - the carrots (GBM dish) and the Cucumber and Kohlrabi with cherry blossom vinegar. The courtyard is just stunning ...just a shame it poured but nothing you can do about that!!
V. Z.
We had the most amazing lunch here in a beautiful setting. Innovative cooking at its finest. The meal began and ended with some absolute showstoppers of zero-waste snacks and desserts. Will be returning at the first opportunity.
A. B.
Seriously exciting food that is both experimental and tastes amazing!! The zero-waste snacks were a serious highlight - including a little deer pie and a leftover vegetable pakora. Loved the wood pigeon kebab and trout crudo too. Save room for dessert and try the bone marrow caramel!
S. T.
Zero Waste dining at its finest. The team at Native are an inspiration, applying a Zero Waste mindset to all the food and stunning cocktails. Did I mention the terrace is Mayfair's best-kept secret??

We went to this restaurant for the fifth time, having been to their original Covent Garden place and then London Bridge restaurant a few times. We decided to order all of the small plates as opposed to the tasting menu but had hope to try the chef wasting snacks and asked if we could pay for these as they weren't on the small plates menu. Our waitress was very friendly and asked for us but was told that this was not possible (I can't see why), so this was a shame as we had really wanted to try them but weren't keen on the rest of the tasting menu options.
After we ordered we were told a few of the dishes had run out (at 1pm on a lunch service). It was only when the third dish transpired to have run out that they offered to let us have one of the chefs wasting snacks that we had previously been told wasn't possible to have, so this was a bit disappointing in terms of experience.
There were some real stand out dishes, including the Beetroot Tartare, the wood pigeon kebab, the smoked eel and the miso cabbage. I probably wouldn't bother with the potato waffle or the croquettes again as they just weren't as flavourful as the other dishes.
We do love visiting Native, and the stand out dishes really are deserving of a Michelin star in my opinion, but its the shame that the whole menu doesn't quite live up to that standard, and they could be a bit more accommodating. Wouldn't stop me going back though!

After attending Native at Covent Garden and Southwark, it was my favourite restaurant. After dining at Native in Browns, am pleased to say it still is my favourite restaurant. They have put such great thought, care and detail (even down to the toilet roll & handwash). The food is exquisite and the service is impeccable, without feeling pretentious. They were incredibly accommodating with my multiple allergies and were even kind enough to give me a birthday card. Cannot wait until the taster menu at Borough opens again so I can try more of their delicious food :).
J. H.
A special evening: great, inventive food, big flavours with lots of umami but also delicate. Highlights were trout ceviche, the mini deerstalker pie, hispi cabbage and the rhubarb and rosemary desert. Lovely service and cocktails too. Milk punch was subtle and fragrant.
E. T.
Our family had the tasting menu on offer. Unfortunately we find the portion sizes very small and the food fell far below expectation.
Oyster with pickle to start was refreshing, hake tasty and well cooked but only 2 mouthfuls. Again a snack size brandade was served. Squash with pumpkin bread midway through the menu is odd, stoggy and tasteless. mallard dish was delicious but again very small amount on the plate. Accompanying duck liver parfait is good. There are 3 desserts at the end of the meal which is a unnecessary. The last dessert - white chocolate with bone marrow is cool and experimental but not really edible on its own - it’s like soft caramel fudge and extremely heavy we each had half a teaspoon. £65 per head is a hefty price for what we actually consumed.

Well worth more than 5 stars. A current hidden gem. Get there before everyone else does!
There are literally no negatives about this place.
+ Fantastic ambiance combined with a sense of space and personal touch
+ Unbelievable food. More on this later.
+ Super friendly and professional team. Nothing left unturned.
+ Great menu with local British produce and European wines
+ Decor superb without being pretentious
The food here blew me away. Some of the flavours on the menu seem like they would go but Ivan and Imogen have brought together a place where they work. Words aren’t going to do any dish justice and photos just prove mouth watering so I suggest you get down there and give this one a go for yourself!!

My partner and I had the most wonderful evening meal here last week. The staff were super friendly and helpful, and the food was absolutely delicious. I’m vegetarian and the choices were really good. Highly recommended!

Another great meal courtesy of the folks at Native, this time took my work colleagues. The foraged forest mushroom dish was just like crunching through autumnal leaves. Inventive ingredients and happy staff - always a winner. :)

What a wonderful find. Lovely little restaurant of sustainability and great foods. Tried English Sparkling to kick off what was a lovely meal.
Cauliflower fritters with brown sauce which I didn’t eat as they were tasty enough. Followed by a dreamy creamy Celeriac risotto - light, incredibly delicate flavors and perfect portion allowing me room for dessert! Rhubarb with meadowsweet custard with little dots of honeycomb. Again delicate flavors that sang of spring sunshine and chilly mornings. Thank you. FOH staff were friendly, knowledgeable and made this solo woman diner feel very comfortable.
V. F.
Creative, delicious tasting menu paired with a stunning wine selection, prepared by an inspirational head chef whose passion for foraged and native foods comes to life on the plate and the palate. The front of house team and eclectic, rustique ambiance make nat•ive the go-to venue for vibrant lunches and evening feasts. The Cornish Hake with Brown Butter was to die for, and the lemony White Choc & Mushroom Cremeaux with Kentish Wood Ants was delightful. Can’t wait to go back for more seasonal sensations. 🖤
A. E. C.
Fantastic. Have followed the restaurant for many years in their different locations. Each one even more exceptional than the last!
L. P.
New location for this very nice restaurant focused on natural ingredients and zero wastes. Great music and atmosphere and very good food for a decent price. The service could be a bit faster but overall great experience
S. C.
The guys here Zack and his team definitely know what they are doing. Wonderful unique flavours and amazing service. Very attentive and ill be back again with our company staff who were more than satisfied. Big thumbs up
M. K.
Completely amazing. Every dish we had was wonderful. Favourites being the confit egg and the potato risotto. Imaginative, creative and an amazing combination of flavours and textures. And seasonal and zero waste to top it off! The staff were also incredibly lovely.
J. B.
Really excellent outdoor / hygienic setting in a courtyard for terrific tapas-like dishes. So good and interesting we had one course extra each. “We” included my mother in law so yes it works across a variety of ages. Many tables had young business people out celebrating something, but others were older people on their own.
C. F.
I saw Native’s live demo at Taste London and was impressed. So I check out the restaurant. OMG, such a great experience. The Staff are highly attentive and friendly. Then the food is just wonderful. Wines - Yes - Yummy. I can’t wait to return. Sorry only one photo due to my inability to resist from scoffing it down. Thank You everyone at Native 😍

Lovely little restraunt hidden below another boisterous restraunt.... In a more pleasant and quiet atmosphere you are offered choices pleasantly plated and taste very good, along with a good wine choice to accompany. Front of house pleasant and not intrusive yet have good knowledge of product.
Well worth a visit...
B. H.
Good food but not as excellent as the reviews suggested or for the price. Carrots and courgette dishes 5* the rest 3*. Cocktails very good but not overly generous.. service 5*, warm, friendly and helpful
N. S.
The food was great. I was a little nervous about going because the website was weird. However I was happy with the food

It was back in May when we enjoyed a fantastic outside dining experience with amazing food and friendly service led by manager Tamsin as well as co owner Imogen. This made us really wanting to come back when we would be able to enjoy the full experience inside the restaurant. Unfortunately this what not to be the case.
The day started well as on arrival we were given a friendly welcome before being escorted to our table. We were then told that we know how it works as you scan the menu to your phone. We said ok and off he went. He returned a few minutes later to ask if we wanted to start with a drink to which we said give us a minute while we then had a look at the drinks page. Why restaurants can’t use paper menus is beyond me as it’s so much easier. Anyway we ordered a drink then decided what food to order. We opted to order as before the entire menu.
It was now that things started to go a bit downhill and you could tell straight away the difference between Tamsin & Imogen being here last time and creating a great atmosphere than today when there absence was clearly noticeable. Also when you consider that we ended up being the only two people inside the restaurant why did it feel like a burden that we were even there in the first place.
For the rest of our lunch our food was brought in a speedily fashion to our table with a brief explanation. When we’d finished each course our plates were taken without any engagement. We tried to engage with them but our efforts seemed wasted. One of the waiters was on his laptop throughout our time there and he only had to bring us a few dishes but you could clearly tell that it was a chore to do so. Even when it came to finishing our savoury dishes we had a little break and wasn’t asked if we wanted dessert or just a coffee so we asked for the bill to which the waiter seemed a bit surprised and didn’t ask at all if we’d enjoyed our lunch. He just took our payment of £177 yes that’s correct and walked away and not even a thank you for coming. It really did just feel that they would have preferred us not to have been there.
In the end despite the food being as good as before the atmosphere was terrible and we couldn’t wait to leave and yes I didn’t even want to have dessert anyway. I can’t believe our two visits have been like chalk and cheese leaving it highly unlikely that would we ever return again
E. F.
Amazing restaurant - very imaginative and sustainable food and cocktails, in a lovely setting with great service.
T. B.
Such a gem for dinner. Wonderful cocktails and great wine list. Highly recommend.
L. V.
Beautiful setting (unfortunately it was raining so the outdoor area was not available) and lovely service. However, the dishes were inconsistent. While the scallop and potato waffle plates were delightful, others were heavy handed. The potato risotto consisted of large portion diced potato pieces with a heavy sauce that wasn't too far from a mac and cheese flavour wise. I was also most keen to try the marrowmel, which is caramel/fudge presented with bone marrow. The sugariness of the caramel completely overpowered the flavour of the marrow and the portion far too large for how rich the dessert was.
T. O.
Unique space in the middle of Mayfair - beautiful indoor courtyard. Interesting menu consisting of meat/fish/veg. Favorites were the scallop and pigeon. Sensible prices. Check it out!
M. C.
We went to native for a date night on a Saturday evening. We had the tasting menu with wine pairing....with an additional extra of chicken liver parfait with waffles! It was all amazing, beautiful food and all courses with an ethical, "native" grown story behind them. All the staff were amazing, very attentive but not in an overbearing way. Amazing, Michelin quality food without the pretentious atmosphere. Highly recommend it to everyone
F. C.
Extraordinary food - just wonderful. Beautiful space too - this is a fantastic restaurant.
V. O.
Went for lunch with my wife and daughter and the service was incredible from the moment we arrived. Our high chair was there waiting for us, they had us at a table with lots of space and they even went to the effort of getting the chef to make my 7 month old some steamed veg beautifully presented. The food itself is superb - creative, tastes incredible and decent portion size. The cabbage with miso butter is incredible but then again so was everything else we had. Will be coming back. 5/5 and would not be surprised if they get their first Michelin star in the coming year. Loved it.
A. A.
Incredible food, unique cocktails and very friendly staff!
S. H.
Excellent food charming staff very original; way beyond the common place an experience worth having !
R. B.
The food was excellent. I had maitake mushrooms, potato risotto, and venison. All excellent, and with interesting and unique flavors. The staff members were all lovely from the time I first came in to the restaurant. The owners are very friendly and answered all questions. They were happy to talk if asked. The restaurant was quite full by 9:00 PM on Friday, and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. I tell all my friends to come here when they visit London. I hope to be back soon!
F. V.
Very nice bunch, wrote a card for us as it was our anniversary!
A. D.
Delicious, inventive and imaginative cooking. A simple menu that changes every day and I think can be challenging if you are not willing to take a risk. We had trout ceviche and rhubarb, halibut and celeriac puree - but a lot more with each dish. And a sublime dessert of marrowbone and white chocolate. Good service, informal and friendly but knowledgeable. They knew what they were serving. Not an extensive wine list but one that has been hand selected for the menu so go along with their recommendations. Relaxed and slightly quirky decor but you go there for the food not the decor.

I recently was in London on vacation from the USA and was recommended to visit this restaurant from several of my friends who recently visited England. I made reservations for a Saturday evening several weeks before my trip and they were almost completely booked up for that evening, but I was fortunate to be able to reserve a table for two. The service was impeccable and the entire staff was extremely warm and friendly. The menu consisted of a unique variety of game dishes to chose from. The dishes we ordered were absolutely delicious and the presentation was artistic to say the least. The ambience of the restaurant was very cozy and correlated nicely with the game menu. This experience reminded me of several Michelin star rated restaurants I visited in the past. I am looking forward to returning to Native the next time I visit London. I wish we had this in the USA.
Y. H.
Innovative, interesting food and cocktails, warm service and a gorgeous gorgeous room even on a grey day.
A. W.
We chose the tasting menu there last night and cant praise it highly enough. Staff were super friendly and warm and you can tell how passionate the are about the food they are producing/serving.
Just some of the food highlights were the Gunard Ceviche, the fermented waffle with pate, and the deestalker pie.
The wines were interesting and delicious as well.
Love that they are always thinking about food miles, sustainability etc, whilst not compromising on flavour at all and producing totally banging food. Truly the best of british.
.....oh AND they are dog friendly!
S. G.
Really enjoyable dinner: delicious tasting menu, knowledgeable and friendly staff. Just 5-minute walk from London Bridge tube station.
T. P.
Very attentive staff and a good approach to minimal food waste (as much as I’d have liked to of had more focaccia!). Really enjoyed what was a slightly more elaborate menu for a relatively reasonable price for 5 well presented courses in London. I’d definitely go again.
M. S.
Came here with my family one Friday night and were blown away by the interesting and tasty food. Both the meat and the vegetarian dishes were delicious, and great value compare to similar 'high end' restaurants. My family went back with friends the following week as they enjoyed it so much, and the menu is constantly changing so you'll always get to try new dishes.
Note, please read the 1 star reviews of this place, as you will realise none of those reviewers have actually eaten at the restaurant. Everyone who has actually eaten here has only good things to say.

Delicious and innovative food, and great service. Highly recommended!
L. M.
A real treat!
Had a thoroughly brilliant evening indulging in their taster menu. I don’t think I’ve eaten as well as I have done here.
Food was brilliant, it’s unbelievable what they can do with their flavours, every mouthful was sensational. Atmosphere was great, and you have an opportunity to relax without being rushed through courses. Staff are friendly are really know their menus well. All adds up to be a brilliant experience.
Would thoroughly recommend this little gem, up there with the best of what London has to offer.
R. M.
Worth a visit: the chef and his team know how to cook properly with dishes well executed and presented. A chef with a great future if this restaurant is anything to go by. The rhubarb desert was delicious and excellently presented. Attentive staff. Very good value food.
G. C.
I first tried their food when it was a market stall near Covent Garden. It was ruddy delicious. I visited their 1st restaurant in Neal's Yard and was blown away by the quality of the food and the ingredients they used. I'm booked for another visit at the new London Bridge location soon and i absolutely cannot wait for it. They take great care with the ingredients and use imagination and expertise when pairing flavours.
I can't recommend highly enough, go treat yourself to something special!
J. C.
I went with a friend to Native on Saturday night for dinner. We each had the £40 menu which is 'snacks', starter, main and desert. It was incredible - easily the best food I have had in London - absolutely delicious. All the courses were excellent but special mention to the 'snacks' which were excellent little inventions by the chef and the Pollock which was unbelievably good. The staff were also fantastic particularly in explaining the dishes to us. For two people our meal came to around £115 including a 12.5% service charge - for food of this quality in a cosy interior and fantastic staff - I consider that a bargain. I highly recommend Native.
C. H.
I love this restaurant. Incredible food, responsibly sourced and from the UK! The place was surprisingly empty, which was nice would have loved the tasting menu, but wasn't quite hungry enough to tackle multiple mains... Shame they were out of IPA and that the door was a little draughty, but both very minor points. Worth a visit.
R.
Had a fantastic evening at Native. Everything on the tasting menu was delicious, as was the wine pairing which was worth every penny. For me the Cornish Brill with an Oyster Emulsion deserves a particular shout out - it was absolutely scrummy! My partner - an enthusiastic carnivore - however couldn’t get enough of the deer tartare. If you a feeling adventurous, and have a sweet tooth, give the white chocolate and bone marrow a go...you won’t regret it!
Native is a modern and innovative restaurant which serves delicious food. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. We went on a Tuesday evening so it was quite quiet but there was still great ambience.
J. T.
Delicious food served by extremely friendly and attentive staff. We came here on a Saturday night and had two tasting menus. I didn't quite understand the concept behind the "minimal wasted food" but it tasted amazing, I would definitely come back here and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.
M. D.
Came here for a partner’s birthday and the food, service and ambience were perfect. The bread was incredible.
Not sure why people are kicking up a fuss over squirrel - I’m vegetarian and don’t believe in eating any animal. If you don’t agree with it don’t eat it!
H.
We had a delicious lunch. Weren't entirely sure of the no waste concept but they provided delicious snacks to start that were deliciously reassuring that the chef could work wonders
All three courses very good. Apple sorbet with caramel a dream
V friendly and helpful staff too.
L. B.
This is a brilliant restaurant if you fancy tasty, innovative and good value food. The location is 2 minutes from London Bridge, the atmosphere is edgy but relaxed, the quality of the food is excellent. The staff’s knowledge really stood out and they were accommodating for allergies. It seems all the 1 star reviews are because they serve squirrel. I’d recommend this place to anyone
P. W.
My absolute favourite restaurant in London Bridge. I wanted to book a dinner here today and sadly found out it's temporarily closed due to Covid. I hope you guys won't permanently close as Native is an amazing restaurant with great food and customer service. Hope to come back again very soon !
L. O.
OK so its not cheap but at this quality in London that has to be expected. Does it delivery - YES. Funky, industrial interior, very good service and creative, native, foraged food - some is weird and wacky - crispy fish skin, wood ants, white chocolate with bone marrow - some is well done but more normal, focaccia with garlic oil. Experiment and enjoy
K.
Amazing experience. The food is always sublime and service homely. Recommend the Marrowmel to everyone. I'd say Native is excellent value for money, well situated, using non-traditional ingredients to their maximum potential. Highly recommend!
p. 1.
Very disappointing- firstly at this price you need to get the basics right. Messy loos and a glacial draught don’t make for a relaxing experience. If diners are wearing coats the staff ought to realise they should turn the heating on. We had the tasting menu plus wine.the 5 wines was served in miserly amounts which again toook the pleasure out of the experience. Some of the food was superb - the lambs heart was a revelation. Some of the food was plain weird -the desserts were a low point. Jerusalem artichoke isn’t an ice cream ingredient. Despite telling staff what we thought no action was taken - it was strongly implied that it was our fault
A. Y.
Absolutely amazing restaurant!!! Imaginative and delicious food and great staff!
What a shame so many people have put one star ratings on here just to make their point about certain things bring on the menu. Pathetic. Some even admit to never having even been.
Make sure you eat here if you love great food!
T. W.
Me and my girlfriend had an excellent meal last night, the food is cooked to perfection & the staff are wonderful - nothing is too much.
Even got me a card for my birthday celebrations! Will definitely be back next time we’re here.
5*!!!
K. B.
We had a lovely and delicious dinner here. It’s a hidden gem in London.

Great food and lovely atmosphere

One of the best meals I’ve had in a long time. Beautiful ethically sourced food, fantastic friendly staff and a great atmosphere.
Will be returning here regularly for the foreseeable future!

Fine dining with a great atmosphere, everything I look for. One of my favourite places in London. The wood pigeon kebab gets better every time I go.
H. v. K.
Fantastic tasting menu, with great wines
J. J.
I’m shocked to see the low ratings at this place. Loved the tasting menu and wine pairing. Creative dishes, clearly trying new things! Love it!
W. J.
Cracking restaurant with delicious food and friendly staff. I will be back!
Some of the reviews (I am looking at you Susan Johnson) are frankly deranged and clearly show a lack of understanding around what ethical eating actually is.
S. J.
The food was stunning.
Beautifully served, amazing taste.
Crab to start, rump for main. Couldn't fault it.
Staff very friendly and helpful.
M. D.
Unreal Restaurant!
Food, drinks and staff are just amazing along with a fantastic venue, for me one of the best places to eat in London if you like and enjoy real food!
Keep up the great work guys!!
K. B.
I loved this restaurant, from the friendly staff who explained all the various ingredients that I'd never previously tried and of course the food was amazing, I love the zero waste snacks! I'll definitely be returning!

great food indeed

"interesting" food, a bit above me frankly. A lack of vegetables left us all wanting more. Pretentious, perhaps a little...
