Food was great - croissant was airy and crispy, hot chocolate was thick and indulgent. However, service didn’t match. The staff kept asking us to repeat what we wanted. They also spilt some of the drinks into the saucer before we picked it up. Furthermore, cleanliness is an issue. Cutlery were dirty that we had to just wipe it ourselves.

First time I visited their cafe but I have visited a number of their bakeries in UK and overseas. I ordered vegetarian petit dejeuner and regular latte with caramel syrup. The plate aesthetically is lacking but that's not a big deal if it tastes good. Two eggs, sourdough bread, spinach, tomato and a portobello mushroom with some herbs sprinked on top. The mushroom and spinach had a good natural taste. Two areas for improvement with this dish: 1. The bread was a sourdough type and the crust was very, very hard. I could not cut it with my knife without putting a lot of force into it. I ended up having to hold it in my hand and eat. I left a piece to show the member of staff how almost impossible it was to cut. I appreciate the bread type is generally quite tough but I have eaten this type of bread in other restaurants and not had this problem. I would suggest replacing blunt cutlery. 2. The spinach had nice natural taste but very oily. Finally, about my coffee. The saucer my coffee came on was not clean and the base of my cup was covered in brown powder/mess, assuming from their kitchen tops. Such a basic standard being missed and makes me question hygiene standards. The coffee itself was okay but too much caramel syrup in. If you are going to visit, I would recommend sticking to pastries and a basic latte, probably would not recommend their cafe menu.

Paul’s selection of pasties, coffees and treats are plentiful and fresh. The staff are friendly and patient. One key concern is the lack of enforcement when it comes to the wearing of mask. It is clear that corporate has policies of social distancing (including walking lanes, entrances/ exit sides, 2m markers) however I’ve run into more than a few situations where I left because the staff never asked customers to wear a mask. (There was a case where a mask less customer was speaking on the phone circling around the store like a headless chicken spraying his unconcerned mouth onto every corner of the bakery. Hilarious. But scary nonetheless, I left the store without purchasing anything)

I really like this Paul, the food is consistent and the seating area is bigger than most. However, they recently changed this branch to mostly table service which has ruined it. There is an area for self service from the till, but it's too small. Relying on someone to serve you just slows down the experience and the staff are not particularly attentive.

Poor, absent-minded service, ok food, higher than average prices. They put my sandwich on the counter around a corner and didn't indicate it was available for collection, and then forgot to take my partner's sandwich out of the toaster, requiring her to queue up again to get them to give it to her. Only gave us one of the two glasses of water we ordered. Generally unimpressive.

Cakes are tasty, however when you order cakes for celebrations they tend to make mistakes on the ‘message’ they place on the cake whether it’s a spelling mistake or grammatical error. They need to try and resolve this issue by making sure their message on the cake is accurate and must be what the customer asks for.
