Reviews of Shilpa Indian Restaurant, Hammersmith
R. P.
It’s a great experience and has left the best impressions! The ambiance is very welcoming and charming with Mural paintings and music.
The service is unmatched. Hospitable hosts, delicious dishes, beautiful presentation.
The Kerala Food menu is to die for, is extensive and seasonal to a particularly high standard. IT WAS FIRE!! Definitely fine dining.
They know what they’re doing and what they’re talking about, and you can tell making the customers happy is their main priority.
I have to say, I enjoyed every single bite of the menu in Shilpa Restaurant. This is my absolute favourite restaurant in London and will continue to visit with friends here again and again.
Do yourself a favour and visit this lovely Shilpa restaurant in Hammersmith...

Great food, great atmosphere, great team! We went out for a family dinner with an uncle who was visiting from overseas. This restaurant provided the perfect dining experience and atmosphere to relax in and enjoy some great, authentic South Indian cooking together. The food is full of flavour and great quality, not oily like some places. The staff were attentive and very friendly. The Restaurant itself is a nice setting with beautiful paintings decorating the walls, there is a very stunning Mural across the length of one of the walls which really added to the nice atmosphere of the place. As a bonus, I have been looking for a place that does a great Dossa and they did not disappoint. The owner was present when we visited and he was very kind and really takes pride in the establishment and providing a great experience. If you are looking for fantastic South Indian food that is full of flavour, cooked to a great standard in a nice, relaxed setting with great staff to look after you, I strongly recommend this restaurant.

Been coming here for many years.
Food is always great and ingredients & spices amazing. Top class & friendly service. Great ambience and nice decor.
I recommend Shilpa to everyone.

We had ordered some food for our daughter's birthday. Everyone enjoyed the amazing food, especially the duck roast and appam. I would highly recommend the food if it is authentic south indian/Kerala cuisine you are after.
N. F.
I have never written a review while I am still at the restaurant because this is THE MOST AUTHENTIC Indian food I have ever eaten in London! Every single dish is truly unique, authentic and filled with delicious flavor! I ate so much I can’t move :) please try it if you are around West London!

delicious food!! will definitely be coming back. great service also. we loved the the king fish curry.

My review here is based on the criteria on somewhere that serves promptly during lunchtime for a group of 8 to 10 people and is reasonably priced.
We pre-ordered the day before and turned up on time. Shortly after ordering drinks the food turned up so a big tick here.
Everyone enjoyed the food and it was surprisingly well presented. Again a big tick for the food. I will caveat that statement with the fact we were someone who had been there before and given us some recommendations of what to order.
We were able to finish and pay within half an hour of seating down with everyone feeling pretty satisfied.
Overall I would recommend the restaurant for anyone looking for a place for lunch.

We ordered chicken biriyani for my son's first birthday party and we had a scrumptious dinner. It was delivered well packed and came on time. Biriyani was made in authentic kerala taste and came along with pappad, salad and super delicious dates pickle. The quantity was more than plenty. Everybody loved it !!

Great little place in Hammersmith its hard to find good Indian places these days that are not super oily. I went with my date here as loves Indian food, the place was decorated nicely simple and clean, we had a look at the menu we got a number of dishes so we could try a number of things the menu had a good range to suit most peoples tastes.
We got a Kerelan spiced deep fried prawns, these were a starter, it was alright a little of the spices peeking through, though maybe would have been better in a sauce then again it is a starter.
We also got paneer tikka these were a good portion for a starter and a chutney to dip them into, they had different kinds maybe go for the spiced on next time, not enough of the flavour coming through on the tikka ones, but still pleasant.
To follow we had Dosa which is like an Indian crepe I guess but crunchy with sambar like a lentil which is spicy and the dosa is filled with potatoes inside really hit the spot and the size of it gigantic so maybe order only one. don't just eat the meat dish try the vegetarian dishes they may surprise you.
For the mains we ordered a Lamb Biryani which was one of the best i have had recently, and similar to how my mum would cook at home and my favourite of the dishes i had followed by King fish curry South Indian style, which was medium spiced so the flavours were warming as it went down with the meaty fish pieces.
Its worth noting they did take a little while to bring these to us, however it was all seemingly being cooked fresh presented well and tasted great so it was not an issue.
The only small downside and this might be to my own tastes was the Mango lassi a little too sweet for my liking, but nice none the less. all this for £40 nicely priced, with food they will kinda wrap up for you if you wish to take away.
I would definitely come back here.
P. S.
This place looks somewhat rough around the edges, but the menu is varied and the food lovely. Great service too.
E. A.
Absolutely delicious food from Shilpa's. Super tasty, really fresh and amazing selection of different curries you don't see any where else, each one beautifully seasoned with amazing flavors. Great portions, great price. Definitely recommend. Now how to stop myself ordering from here every day :)
A. D.
Best Kerala food in west London! Absolutely yummy, authentic taste, reasonable prices and good portion. Ordering ahead is recommended unless you are happy to wait. Eating in or getting take away both great!! Cannot recommend enough.
S. M.
Excellent food and attentive service the manager Ajit. Could add a few more truly Keralite vegetarian dishes to menu like Kadala curry (not channa masala), Stew, some pachadis, etc
S. P.
My friend took me for a birthday lunch. My favourite Indian dishes from Kerala
D. B.
Explosions of flavors with every bite, food is spectacular, it's hands down the best Indian restaurant in London
m. m.
Very yummy appams and fish curry, nice decor and good service. Will visit again!
C. S.
Not you’re average curry. Different spices, different experience. Up there with the best of them!
P. W.
Love the Shilpa. The starters are special and I had a King Fish curry for the main course. Gorgeous. We had a couple of pints of Kingfisher plus sundries (rice, nans and Saag Paneer). Came to about £30 each. Would recommend.
T. H.
Grabbed a quick takeaway on the way back from the theatre. Very accommodating staff and lovely tasting food
H. R.
Went for onasadya with my friends. First onam in UK. Had heard good reviews about the place
Fantastic sadya. Everything very very authentic. Totally 5/5.
V. S.
This authentic South Indian restaurant has great food and is very reasonably priced. We had the chicken biryani and the fish lunch box and we lived it. This one is definitely a good one if you're looking for a pocket-friendly meal.
N. G.
Best Indian Restaurant also with the most reasonable prices near Hammersmith station. Owner is so gentle & make us feel like India with the hospitality, bollywood music & our masaledar taste. Really serves authentic Indian food. Thank you so much for being here in London for us :)
G. B.
Booked for a big group and was welcomed with very friendly staff, delicious food and great hospitality. Highly recommend.
S. L.

Excellent service.Reasonable waiting time.Tasty south indian food.First time visiting with family .WeWill visit again.
S. H.
Real South indian taste..Feels like I’m at home..Especially the Fish Allepy😍
P. D.
A lovely gem in Hammersmith. Attentive friendly service and fabulous Keralese food
K. H.
This place is lovely. I think the best time to come is between 6-7, as it’s when the kitchen Reopens. The food on the menu is everything it says on the tin. If you order a coconut curry that is exactly what you will get. The flavours really come through with everything. Ive been to a few Indian restaurants and I must say, the papadums here are definitely up there with the best. It’s got a lovely chilled atmosphere and it’s reasonably priced. I thought it was very courteous of the waiters to ask if we were ready for our main course after finishing our staters. It’s definitely somewhere nice to go if you fancy an early dinner. And they provide you with little chocolates with your bill. I have no complaints
m. a.
Very nice Indian restaurant in the Hammersmith area (King's Street). It serves mostly specialties from Kerala and South India. Food is very tasty. Still a bit too spicy for me but that depends on each person. Could seem a bit pricey but it is one of the least expensive in the area.
H. B.
Excellent place to stop for a dosa! Nice owners, good food.
R. F.
During lockdown I’ve been trying local W6 takeaway places and this by far has been my favourite. Really delicious and very flavoursome food. South Indian food is now a firm favourite. (One of the writers in the book The Good Immigrant also says it’s his favourite restaurant!)
E. L.
Fantastic typical Indian food. Amazing atmosphere. Not expensive. Highly recommended.
V. F.
Has had always a nice experience eating there. Food is spicy, yummy and simply amazing.
J. S.
Excellent South Indian takeaway in my area - the Dosas are a highlight. Free delivery when you ring the restaurant directly. They are always very professional and nice.
T. T.
One of the best curries I have ever tasted, but ask for mild if you can't handle the heat. Food was fresh and beautifully presented, as was to be expected of a family run restaurant. The lunch boxes were ridiculously affordable, clocking in at about £4 for takeaway.
L. M.
We are ordering Indian take-away on a regular basis and I had my fair share of good and bad experiences. Newer tought to actually give a review, but this time I was so impressed by the food that I decided to change this habit.
The food is excellent and on top of the exceptional and exotic recipes the ingredients are also fresh and very high quality as one could tell from the end results. I would highly recommend and for sure I have found my favorite take-away when it comes to Indian food.
B. D.
I have walked past this place a hundred times and tonight my lovely wife and I went in....why didn't we eat here before!! This South Indian restaurant is special. Its choices are different from your average curry house. It's a cuisine we will enjoy exploring. Tonight it was two different fish curries with lemon rice and a vegetable side washed down with Kingfisher and Cobra.
Would it be wrong to return tomorrow?
C. A.
Amazing food and staff, amazing lunch deals. Authentic taste.
A. B.
It was a very tasty affair at this restaurant . We had gone for lunch on a Monday and ordered mussels, fish tandoori which was super amazing. We also ordered kerala paratha and prawns gravy and i should say that kerala paratha was supersoft and flaky. We loved every bit of it. The place is clean and beautiful and restrooms are clean as well. We enjoyed out Eat Out discount as well. Worth every penny.
F. M.
We searched and read up reviews of various south Indian restaurants and came to Shilpa. I must admit that the food was the best south Indian I had in a very long time. Very authentic. It's a shame there's only 5 starts otherwise I would have given it 10 stars .
Great service as well. Two course meal was served and finished in less than an hour.
Thank you.
A. J.
I wasn’t that impressed with the masala dosa-the dosa batter wasn’t fresh and it was too thick (not soft or crispy at all) and the masala was bland and tasteless-won’t order masala dosa again
D. G.
Very fresh - it takes ages to cook this food which is a good sign that nothing gets reheated or cooked in advance. Friendly staff, very smiley and welcoming. Many vegetarian options and decent portion sizes. Will be coming back <3
J. A.
Visited for the first time on 2019/11/01, a Friday night. Service was good. Poppadoms were average. Disappointed with the sauce for the chicken tikka masala. No hot towels were provided at the end of the meal, though mints were included.
J. S.
Excellent South Indian takeaway in my area - the Dosas are a highlight. Free delivery when you ring the restaurant directly. They are always very professional and nice.
C. O.
The service isn't great there, buy my god the food is incredible and totally make up for it and quite affordable.
L. a.
Excellent services and goodvquality food.
D. P.
Excellent food

Love this place! One of the best Indian restaurants in London. Have been coming here for years, and everyone I introduce it to agrees.

Great food small portion though
I. M.
Recommended. Good food.

S. H.
Excellent Food! Some very nice dishes from Kerala, e.g. pancakes. Friendly and relaxed. For Swiss people wanting to enjoy Indian food in London!
U. G.
Great place to have some nice authentic Kerala food. The service is good and location is just perfect. Kerala paratha is must try. It is little cramped up which means if full you may find it noisy.
M. A.
Very nice kerala( south indian) food however the portions are quite small in contrast with the price.
R. K.
One of my favorite restaurants in London. Love the dishes, authentic and would definitely recommend.
I always order my lunch and sometimes pop over for dinner. The spices are on point and you can always alter the spices how you like it. The lamb dishes and the paneer dish is my favourite, a must try! :)
S. S.
There is something to be said for finding good, authentic Indian cuisine in London. Shilpa does just that. You can find all the staples on the menu if you want to err on the side of caution - but why bother when there a plenty of tasty dishes from Kerala on offer, including the many options with fish. On the waiter's recommendation, I chose the Meen Alleppey (king fish in a moderately spiced gravy of coconut and raw mangoes) which was simply delicious. With starters, drinks and service the bill came to £17 per person - really good value for W6. The service was a bit slow, but at these prices and with this menu, I'm not complaining!
R. G.
Everything on the menu is delicious and the chefs obviously make the meals with care. It's great value for money. If you go - get the masala dosa!!
Best Indian food we have had in London.
L.
I have been there over 5 times and every single time the food is consistently delicious and fresh. So fresh, you don't leave feeling heavy as is common with standard Indian food. Very reasonable prices as well. Highly highly recommended.
A. V.
Absolutely delicious food every time I have been. Each dish has its own flavours and taste. The price is incredible and the customer service is wonderful. I would recommend it to everyone without any hesitation. It is now my favourite restaurant in Hammersmith.
J. S.
I'll come clean now. I was walking down the street looking for a different Indian restaurant when I found and decided to go into this one. Being in London for a few days, it is always nice to see what one can find. This place did not disappoint. The fellow working was friendly and helpful. I admitted I had no idea about Keralian dishes. I ordered the Varutharacha Kozhi Curry, or what I would have just called Chicken Curry in error, along with Basmati rice and some garlic Naan bread. We chatted a bit while my order was being prepared: answering questions about southern India. The food came out rather quickly. It was spicy and good. I have two more days in London and might just go back and try something else.
B. N.
This place was suggested by my friend who has been here quite a few times and it lived upto its reputation of great food. Ordered kerala paratha and paneer butter masala for dinner. The Paneer butter masala was good portion for two of us and the parathas were perfectly made.
S. S.
The value is what makes this place 5 out of 5. The prices are exceptionally good for the quality and the portion size. The food is mostly excellent apart from the meat curries which are a little above average at best. Service is very good and I would definitely recommend the Peshwari Naan and the Paneer.
S. H.
Love this place! One of the best Indian restaurants in London. Have been coming here for years, and everyone I introduce it to agrees.
S. I.
My favourite lndian restaurant. Small, cozy, great place to eat with friends on a birthday. I'm in love with the Mandala Dosa Pancakes. They should run a competition saying it's free if you can eat a whole one by yourself. I 've never managed it yet. I always take away my left overs from all the dishes do l can enjoy it all over again. There's a new more stream line menu which Arthur and the front house team will be happy to guide you round. Desserts are exquisite too. Wine choices varied and affordable, even house red is palatable. Plan on walking home you'll be too full to vegetate !!!.NB its undergoing a renovation at Easter. Get reservations in quick or you will have to survive the temporary closure.
G. B.
Yum yum yum! I've only ever ordered deliveries but the food is outstanding every single time. If you are from India or been to India, you will appreciate this authentic Indian food.
My personal favourite is the Bhindi Masala with Kerala Paratha
M. H.
The most AMAZING curry since I returned from India. I spent three months in Kerela, came back to London and missed the cuisine UNTIL I found this place! 10/10 for taste and service was great! We were looked after all night. I'll be be back
S.
The food here is authentic and tasty! Solid favourites from Kerala, the Malabar Coast and Mangalore. This isn't the usual south Indian menu and is packed with lamb, fish and prawn dishes. You order can take a while but I suspect that this is only because everything is made to order. Ask nicely and they will even customise the dish to give it that perfect edge.
L. N.
Have been to Shilpa both for lunch and after work. It did not disappoint. Food was tasty, hot and delicious. Keralan fish curry recommended. Good, friendly service. Would definately go back
a. c.
I visited 7.30pm on Friday - found the service to be attentive.I was eating by myself.
Had a sag chicken and dopiaza with a garlic nan served with chutnies and pickles.Accompanied with a glass of sparkling white wine. All very pleasant not overly spiced and the portions were good.Very pleased with the ambience and service - total came to £17.60.
Will visit again.
M. I.
I have read 3 complaints by other reviewers - it was expensive, people had to wait and it tasted nothing like they normally have but did taste as described on the menu. to these 3 people i say in the order i listed above:
- there's no such thing as a free lunch - quality food costs more than poor quality food
- the food is cooked to order and not using a bucket of pre-made sauces with a few different spices to pretend its a different dish as you get elsewhere
- get a life - or perhaps thats unfair or even impolite so - variety (which you get a plenty here) is the spice of life - i think you ought to get out more!
NB I am just a punter like the rest of you and in my humble opinion Shilpa serves some of the best and most authentic indian food in london. The majority are indeed not always right but again in my humble opinion this time the majority of comments are fair and if anything under rate this excellent restaurant with extremely pleasant, polite and indeed humble staff.
A. K.
I rarely find any place as good as the reviews claim, this was one of them. The food tasted amazing, and for a fair price. Downsides were the bit slow service, dry receptions and smaller than expected portions. Yet, the taste made up for all of those. A must visit.
F. F.
Good food and great prices at a no frills place. I ordered the lentils and spinach which I don’t normally love but the flavors were fantastic. I would definitely come back.
D. S.
Have you tried chicken 65? I went to Shilpa Restaurant one day and tried some dishes they prepared. Chicken 65 was part of the non-veg starters that I loved. It was mouthwatering and delish. All the other items were equally good, but somehow I cannot forget the exquisite taste.
N. P.
This is actually called Shilpa. Well spiced and reasonably priced food with a good vegan range. Happy to exchange food if it's too spicy. Well established place. Consistent. Excellent soup, by the way.
O. T.
When I went to Shilpa Restaurant, I tried a few things that were different from my tastes and preference. I started with the seafood soup. This soup was made with an assortment of sea fishes and shellfishes. The soup was mild and tasted better with every gulp. I loved it so much.
M. P.
A beautiful ambiance with decent rate for the most DELICIOUS FOOD!!!
I always recommend my friends whenever we headed to Hammersmith.
You will love it. just step in once. better book the table on weekends..
N. M.
Best place for Indian Food. I went to eat food with family. First time I actual Indian taste. Lots of restaurants just serve Indian food but I feel they serve Indian taste with perfect ingredient. Thanks to chef and staff.
A. I.
Mouth salivating food! I highly recommend their Kerala fish curry and beef ulyarthiythu. Too good! Will recommend to all my friends and come back for more. Very attentive service too.
F. d.
The spinach soup as a starter was well appreciated by my partner and the kerala porotta was fantastic and equally fantastic was the prawn moillie . Lost one star because the Beef used for the Beef ulathiathu didn't feel very fresh but it was edible and well flavoured with green chillies and coconut chips. On the whole it was a fine experience and I would recommend the prawn moillie and porotta for anyone .
J. S.
Shilpa is a word of mouth kinda place, a real gem that I would usually walk right by. Super polite staff serve up real tasty south Indian food. THe Masala Dosa is one of my favourites and I've had it every time I've been there.
B. T.
Went to this place and the chicken curry was fresh and tasted like authentic Kerala chicken curry. Feels good to eat some authentic Kerala food. Must try.
D. H.
Came here for (vegetarian) lunch. Food excellent, decent sized portions, and very reasonably priced. Looking forward to coming back for dinner!
W. W.
One of my favourite Indian restaurants in London. Love the variety of Southern Indian dishes and the use of authentic ingredients. Looking forward to my next visit!
D. B.
One of the best Indian restaurants in London. Well worth a visit. It's just a shame I don't live near enough for it to be my local anymore!
S. S.
Done 3 visit in various occasions and never disappointed with service and foods. Always top of the list. Thanks for serving Indian foods with real taste.
j. V.
Authentic Kerala Restaurant!! Tried Kozhi vartharachathu (Typical Kerala Fried grated coconut chicken) curry and Ney choru (Ghee rice)!!! It was an awesome delicacy!!!
J. S.
Generally very good South Indian menu (although quite a few generic North Indian dishes appear on the menu, unnecessarily, in my view). Good service, and very good value.
J. I.
Really recommend Shilpa! The food was delicious, never bland as can often happen elsewhere and so reasonably priced. The staff were so lovely, attentive and warm as well that I felt I had to leave a review!
W. S.
This is authentic south Indian cuisine. You have to wait a little as everything is freshly cooked. Small, unpretentious and friendly.
E. K.
Fragrant and beautifully spiced curry. The atmosphere was warm and cosy which was a bonus as a lot of Indians are lit like an isle in a tesco superstore. Winning combo :))
J. C.
Amazing curries. The fish curries are particularly good. Ask for recommendations, they also do bespoke dishes based on preferences.
M. T.
This is by far the best Indian food I have ever had. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable about the food. The prices were extremely reasonable too.
G. H.
Great food, not your standard menu, great service.
b. s.
Shipa restaurant serves authentic south Indian kerala cuisine. It is the best kerala restaurant in Hammersmith. The staff are very friendly. The interior is set up with very traditional kerala theme. I like the ambience there. Good for families.
N. T.
Traditional south indian restaurant. I went two times and ate lamb Briyani.
S. D.
Fantastic food. Excellent service. We had the chicken curry suggested by the manager and masala dosa along with mango lassi. Everything was just perfect and yum. A must visit in london.
M. D.
Tastes like home. Quick service, freshly prepared food, very tasty - lemon rice, Kerala fish curry, chicken 65, thoran, lamb biryani, masala chai

Amazing Kerala food! The prawns, the fish in platano leaves, the rices and the chapatis are marvelous. The space is not 5 stars though.

Good quality food , didn't like the poppadom side dishes though .
C. O.
The service isn't great there, buy my god the food is incredible and totally make up for it and quite affordable.
D. D.
Home away from home... one of the places in London that is actually run by Indians for Indians.... spicy and flavored they way its supposed to be. Recommend the Allepy Meen curry - King fish and raw mango curry, or the lamb stew with appams! Oh and Sophie is addicted to the dal !
S. B.
Awesome!! Authentic!! Great!! The onl;y thing which I can say about Shilpa Indian Restaurant is that they are the best in providing authentic Indian food. Thank you guys for such authentic service!! Highly recommended!! Thank you guys for such authentic service!!
J.
i cannot handle how good the food is at this restaurant. We had the paneer butter masala, masala dosa, and samosa, all so flavorful and fresh!

M. L.
Unusual Indian restaurant. Food was nice but not the normal fare. Only been once so hard to judge but would go again.
A. H.
The food was good, the only let down for me was the wait time. The friend I went with who goes there on a regular basis assured me that he doesnt usually wait this long to be served, but I can only rate on the experiance that i've had.
Very good value for money also!
K. J.
The curries are very very tasty! Really like the varutharacha curry, highly recommended.
R. J.
Great food, decent prices, friendly staff and quick service. My regular go to Indian restaurant. Keep up the good work!

B. S.
For the last 10 years my wife kept saying she hated Indian food, curries in particular. This place converted her, that's how good it is.
N. J.
Very good food. Servings are nice and quick. Don’t have to wait long. No mock tail drinks available. 😐
s. k.
Best Kerala style biriyani in West London.
M. M.
Fantastic food at a great price. Staff were attentive and friendly, had a really good experience here.
L. t.

Shilpa Indian Restaurant provides for the best and the most authentic Indian cuisine. In the genre of Indian cuisine I only trust one name that is Shilpa Indian Restaurant. Thank you guys for such great service!!
C. T.
I was able to order and receive the food delivery easily within the hour. The whole order was delicious and still hot even in this freezing temperature.

(Translated) It's okay. I would not say that it is highly recommended for children because the dishes in general are spicy, some more and others less. The service is correct and for about 10-13 pounds per person you can eat at ease.

Esta bien. Yo no diria que es muy aconsejado para los ninos porque los platos en general son picantes, unos mas y otros menos. El servicio es correcto y por unas 10-13 libras por persona se puede comer a gusto.
