Ordered a few things - most were quite nice, Thali was delicious, especially the chicken dish with that. Naan bread was good. The Kathi roll was also decent. However the butter chicken dish was disappointing. Not quite as good as many others I have tried.

From the moment we walked through the door we received first class service. The staff were considerate, thoughtful and friendly. The surroundings were clean and comfortable and we enjoyed the Indian film music playing in the background. The food was fantastic. I ordered the vegetarian Thali. This was the.best Thali since my visit to India many years ago. My husband had Lamb Dhansak and thoroughly enjoyed it. The restaurant was recommended to us and they were so right. I would go every night of the week if I lived near enough..

Now reopened for dining in after a lockdown makeover, Thali and Pickles are still awesome. The service was really friendly and the refurbishment has modernised the look of the place to make it lighter and brighter. From the tamarind dip with the poppadoms through to the well balanced heat in my lamb korahi everything was excellent. Hope they thrive post lockdown, we'll be going back for sure.

This restaurant was possibly the best Indian restaurant I have been to. It was for my 26nd birthday and the staff had gone out and bought a cake for me. Thali and Pickles is a staple in our house. They are our only regular go to take out and have outstanding service and food and are a great bargain! Once I even made an error in my order, and while it was completely my fault, they were quick to fix and redeliver at their cost. I can’t think of anywhere else that is this committed to customer service. And it’s not because they know my name, or appreciate that I am a regular, as I always order from their website. It’s just that they are stand up folks, who thankfully also make delicious Indian. Thank you 🙏🏽

The food was great. However even though we had made a reservation and at the time we arrived it was empty, we weren't allowed to choose our seating and asked 3 times if were ready to leave. This restaurant is one of the best Indian restaurants I’ve been to, as the food is absolutely lovely and the spices are exactly on point. The atmosphere of the restaurant is absolutely stunning! The service was great! Everyone is kind! The owner Mukith is such a lovely man as he goes around every table asking if everything is alright and seems like he has absolutely passion for his business and that’s amazing to see!

So, overall the food is nice. BUT we twice ordered the Goan fish curry for takeaway and were delivered the Mumbai fish curry instead. The first time we thought this was an accident. But the following week when it happened again we rang up and were told that they didn't do the Goan fish curry with salmon and prawns, and that this was an accident on the website. This is poor form, especially as they charged us for a more expensive dish and did nothing to try and rectify the situation. As a result of our experience we will no longer be ordering takeaway from this business.

We recently tried this restaurant for the first time and I can honestly say it's the best curry I've had in a long time. Very well prepared food of a high quality, a lovely atmosphere inside, and Kiron and the team are very attentive hosts. Highly recommended. We will definitely be going back!

I've only been here once but been meaning to try it out for a while. The food is tasty, and the Nan bread is lovely - fluffy and not greasy. However I've knocked a star off because I don't think the service was particularly great. It wouldn't put me off going again but Service is such an easy thing to get right. The good things about this place are of course the friendly staff and the enviable location. Decor is quite nice as well, echoing the Indian ambience. Specialising in "thalis", it does a decent job. But that's as far as it goes. Indian street foods are not that great. We ordered "pani-puris" and the mash was so cold it just ruined the taste completely. Our "vegetarian" dish had a bit of prawn in it, I reckon quite by accident, but it goes to show the carelessness in the kitchen. Those who are not fussy will go for this place and sort of ok to hang out with friends but nothing more.

Went out for a Saturday night meal with my partner and had a mixed experience. The restaurant was reasonably busy but not full and we were seated straight away. The food was good, well spiced and authentic, although, the portions are on the slightly small side for the price; however, leaving an Indian restaurant not feeling bloated is a pleasurable experience. The evening was let down by the poor service as our rice accompaniment arrived five minutes after our curries, which is slightly disappointing considering it's a major component of the meal. Our drinks were taken away from us before we had even finished them and when our main meal was taken away the bill was slammed down on our table without asking for it or if we wanted more drinks or dessert - baffling as this was the manager serving us in this fashion! Some restaurants seem to forget that service is just as important as the food, if you receive good service and the food is slightly below par you'll always go back. However, even though the food was good here I'd be reluctant to spend my hard earned money here due to the service.

Highly recommend this restaurant-the lamb dishes are superb, they've got great discounts and the service is impeccable. I went there recently for a friend's birthday and Mashud, the owner, allowed us to bring our own cake and treated all of us to a complimentary drink for the occasion. The only downer for me that (hence 4 stars and not 5) was some of the staff not all, need to work on their customer service skills a little, apart from that your just about guaranteed to get a pretty good meal with the indian street market kind of feel to the place. It's not one of those fancy restaraunts and more like a quick pit stop.

Never a compromise of quality in either. With posters and a soundtrack authentic to Bollywood, this place is our very first and only Ballywood!

Friendly, authentic place just opposite Balham station. Menu was full of interesting dishes, far beyond the typical standard curries you get in most places. I wanted to try everything! We had pani puri and a veggie starter then shared a lamb Thali and a delicious aubergine curry with peanut butter and coconut. With rice and naan I think we over ordered a bit but was all so tasty. Good value as well, especially if you take advantage of the 30% discount on week nights as we did (just book through their website).

A nice place to get a bite with friends. The decor is brightly colored and Indian rustic, with a chill vibe. We went on a Wednesday and it was quite busy. At the discounted price the meal was a steal - pani puri, lamb thali, and lentil dansak for £11. The pani puri was stunning, crisp shell with cold spiced chickpeas and that sweet-but-tart tamarind water. The lamb and dansak were under-flavored, just tasted strongly of literally lamb and lentils. Service was fine, no complaints. It’s a good mid-week dinner spot with friends.

The food is authentic and tastes spot on. It's often manic so be patient with the staff - trust me, it's worth it! I recommend the "Gosht thali" I love this place so much, I'm going again today! Gorgeous full flavoured delight, first time in London staying at the Travelodge round the corner from Thali and pickles in Balham, this Indian really hit the spot after being bewildered by the underground (how the hell do you guys deal with it?). I'm from a small town in Wales so my palette is limited but God damn you can taste the quality I had the lamb bhuna which is always my go to for any Indian restaurant and none down my way compare. If I'm down Balham way again I'll definitely be trying something else from these guys. Much love.
