Reviews of The Camberwell Arms
A. Z.
Booking - was great accommodating last minute request for an additional person to attend and gave us a nice table spot.
Food - was fantastic. Got the chicken roast & pie to share Sunday roast special. My older brother got his vegan meals. Everyone enjoyed their meals and really enjoyed the desserts too.
Atmosphere - had a nice vibe. There were 4 birthday parties around us.
Service - again top notch. Very attentive and all our orders came within a reasonable time. Only slight damper was we were hurried to leave our table, so my sister wasn't able to finish her tea without feeling rushed.
Overall really good. Would like to visit in the week day when it's less hectic.

👏👏👏 every dish was everything we were looking for that day! What an wonderful roast and great value for money! I couldn't pick a favourite and would love to come back and try more. The space especially was so roomy and contemporary, such s nice settings for a Sunday afternoon. Oh but also the Negroni that needed a shout-out! Class.
M. M.
Wonderful roast! Flavourful, plentiful and delicious. Great staff and clearly busy. Wines and drinks very good and dessert wines popular.

Hadn’t taken photo of our main as it would have been a little awkward/rude on the date, but I have to say, it was very much worth the visit from North London for Sunday Roast!
Enjoyed the Lillet Rose (aperitif in the photo) and sourdough was gorgeously made with rosemary and lovely oil (didn’t ask what oil though).
We went for a roast but as it is rare to have slow cooked beef which was on the menu we decided to go for that instead! We thoroughly enjoyed it all. The beef was very tender and fat was edible (yes we enjoy eating all the bit and not waste it). The olive and greens combination beautifully complemented the beef and the single dish of slow cooked beef and veg was very much enough for two. The bread was great for soaking up the juices 🤤
We really enjoyed the chocolate sorbet as well, very rich and creamy - wasn’t expecting that from a sorbet! One is actually good to share for two with the richness. But if you love a good rich dark chocolate then no harm in one per person - we managed to have one each.
I would definitely love to come back and try other dishes/mains next visit!
Keep it up team!

Simply too delicious 👌 especially the cold brew negroni and the pork fat on toast is to die for.

I honestly thought I’d have left a review by now but honestly what’s to say that hasn’t been said. Incredible food, lovely staff and a warm, wholesome atmosphere that makes me come back over and over again.
The roasts here are simple, beautiful combinations of ingredients. I had the porchetta which arrives on a plate paired with tomatoes, honestly it’s awesome and a combo I would’ve never done but works so well.
To start I went rogue and had the frigatelli peppers with roast borlotti beans and anchovy which is usually not something I’d get but I have faith in Camberwell. Honestly so good.
The room they had us in was stripped back, comforting and easy going. And the staff were so accommodating and on hand.
One of my favourite places to dine probably ever so, take that as you will.
Thank you Camberwell arms.

Highly recommended with delicious food and great wine selection. Unassuming from the outside, the old adage "never judge a book by it's cover" springs to mind. The people are really nice, the choice of food and beverage is wide and its very popular. Booking is recommended, particularly at weekends "we're booked weeks ahead for Sunday lunch". There's a great vegetarian selection; we had a bell pepper dish, a broccoli dish and a tomato dish with fabulous flavours. I must mention dessert too - try the sensibly sized gorgeous orange cheesecake and plums; yum! Parking is on street locally, wheelchair friendly, child friendly. Enjoy!

Not bad, not great. My group had a table in the corner with a wall light above it that kept flickering on and off. We didn't know it at the time, but this was to set the tone for the whole experience.
The starters were the best part of the meal, most notable were the celeriac fritters and the lamb. The sole was a bit fiddly to share and ended up being full of bones despite my fellow diner's best efforts to fillet it. The pig's fat on toast was also pretty good.
We waited for ages between our starters and mains and had to remind the manager that we were waiting. Although he said they'd only be another 1-2 minutes we suspected they hadn't even been started as they took close to another 10 minutes to arrive.
I had the bavette steak with Jerusalem artichokes; while I realise that bavette is a fatty cut, mine seemed to have been the fattiest one they could find. It was served warm, not hot, and the artichoke side was cold. I wasn't sure if that's how it was meant to be served but I went with it anyway. It wasn't great.
Dessert was fine; I had the chocolate orange pot - very rich and thick chocolate with a crunchy crumb on top. My only complaint with that is that it was over in two spoonfuls!
All in all an average experience which was disappointing as I'd heard such great things about the place. Will probably try them again in the future, but will visit on a Sunday to try their take on a roast, after a number of recommendations from friends.

The Camberwell Arms catered my 30th birthday party and it was absolutely perfect: totally amazing food, great service and really smoothly put together by Joanna. The vegetarians and vegans were properly catered for (not just given a version of the menu with meat/dairy removed) and it was generally just a really lovely and professional experience working with them.

I've been coming to The Camberwell Arms regularly for about 3 years now. I absolutely love it and have never been disappointed in the 40 or so times I've eaten here. I've eaten solely vegan and vegetarian options here, and their offerings are always delicious, varied and interesting. The pub is perhaps best known for its meat and fish options, but also do non-meat options extremely well aka better than a lot of solely vegetarian/vegan restaurants. This is such a rarity!!! They use a lot of premium and seasonal vegetables, as well as foraged and homegrown produce!
The desserts are killer. The drinks are really nice, the extensive and varied wine list keeps my dad happy, and they have a solid range of soft drinks too, like fresh lemonade, and Folkington's Elderflower presse.
Friendly, relaxed service. This coupled with the incredible food means I often see familiar faces there - lots of regulars. They do a couple of different jazz nights upstairs too in their lovely function room
Favourite dishes I've had here:
- Allotment chard and ricotta rotolo (outrageous)
- Grilled January king cabbage, hummus, harissa, zhoug
- Ribolita
- House tagliatelle with purple sprouting broccoli, sheeps milk ricotta and breadcrumbs
- Their house focaccia, served before every meal
- Pizza fritta, burst datterini, capers, oregano
- Spanish rice with long aubergine and wild garlic pesto
- Can't forget the buratta with roasted and pickled Jerusalem artichokes
- Crispy sprouts, pickled red onions, crumbs and thyme
- All time favourite: Spiced apple cake, cinnamon ice cream, butterscotch sauce
- Iranian pistachio ice cream (out of this world)
- Ginger cake, BBQ'd pineapple, milk ice cream
- Yoghurt and honey ice cream
- Passionfruit pavlova
- Lemon cake and olive oil ice cream
Also, I will often eat locally (Theos, Silk Road, Persepolis) then move onto Camberwell Arms for dessert. It really is that good.
I have had some life-changing meals here!! And I'd recommend it to anyone and everyone
K.
Food, light Rose wine and service was great highly recommend nice quite dinner would visit again
S. B.
Great meal. Only downside was the room upstairs was very cold so it did spoil the meal slightly. They need to bear that in mind when it's cold
V. L.
I tend not to hand out 5 stars easily but this was an easy decision. The service here is great! Our waitress was very knowledgeable and knew everything about the menu. We started our Sunday lunch with a cocktail, (because why shouldn’t you) followed by a great selection of starters and finally our shared Sunday roasts of chicken and pork! Choosing shared plates are the best way to enjoy a bit of everything!
We’ve also been here for a pint in the bar which is always good. Plus they allow dogs into the restaurant area too which is a bonus!
T. C.
Consistently excellent food for years and years.
Just don't expect to be able to hear anything anyone says. The acoustics are terrible. There's got to be a happy medium between soft and comfy and cacophanous? Go for the food though.
H. B.
May favourite place in London! Such delicious food, great staff, vibe. Love it
M. H.
One of the very best gastropubs in London - serving exceptional food whilst retaining an effortless and unpretentious atmosphere. There's no problem popping in here for a pint at the main bar (3 bitters and 4 lagers on tap at our visit) but it is the food that they are deservedly famous for. We came for Sunday lunch and had the mixed smoked fish to start (light and fresh), shared a half roast chicken (roast potatoes were perfectly crispy) and finished with a sticky toffee pudding (wonderfully moist and soft sponge). Lunch for two, with two alcoholic drinks each and service charge, came to £67
L. H.
Lovely meal, basic but functional deco, calm and relaxing ambiance. Friendly, knowledgeable staff and not intrusive. Good value. Well worth a visit.
E. H.
Have eaten here twice, for a roast and secondly for their a la carte menu. Amazing service, wine and food. Faultless. A refreshingly different menu and lovely setting
J. R.
Sunday lunch at The Camberwell Arms is absolutely spot on in terms of taste, food presentation and friendly attentive service.
There were 3 of us total and we ordered the following: two appetizers (the Pork Belly and Tzatziki), followed by the Lamb Roast (which was a shared meal for 3 people), followed by two desserts (the Gooseberry Fool and Peach Crumble). For drinks we had very excellent Bloody Mary's with a nice little kick.
We ate our plates clean with no complaints. This is our new favorite spot for Sunday lunch - highly recommended!!
P.S. Yorkshire Pudding is not an item on their menu but we very quickly forgot about this initial disappointment because everything was just so amazing. Go somewhere else if you're looking for Yorkshire Pudding, but you'll certainly be missing out if you do.
a. y.
Lush Sunday or mid week haunt, book ahead! Delicious food and drinks. Worth the visit
K. A.
The food is amazing, the staff are friendly, knowledgeable and attentive and the overall atmosphere is that of a pub full of happy guests. Absolutely love the CA :)
N. G.
It doesn’t stand out on the high street but really should. A relaxed and friendly ambience with even friendlier staff, and the kitchen almost hibachi style.
The chips were among some of the best I’ve ever had, including abroad. They were hot, crusty outside and soft inside, well salted and amazing mayo in a generous quantity so you weren’t sparing or wasting.
The only thing that didn’t quite work is the almost restaurant layout of tables, with cutlery already out and it felt as if you needed to stay in the front of the pub. The tables and chairs setup isn’t as inviting as the comfy sofas in some other photos.
WiFi is good and there are power points - helpful staff even directed me to one, though you’ll end up sitting in the window or facing a wall. But with good drinks, great service and chips like these I’ll be coming to work there again.
R. A.
Good spot for Sunday roast. Among all the pies and potatoes, the more simple chicken was the best thing we ordered.
A. S.
Have only been once... So far. Will definitely be coming back for the superb Sunday roast menu (which is served Sundays only). It"s firmly planted in tradition but innovative enough to feel fresh, and executed to a fantastic standard. Curried codfish fritters with yogurt pack all sorts of different flavours and textures, and the lamb for 3 is an absolute belter: a huge slab of lamb shoulder, falling off the bone into a lovely rich (but not overpowering) tomato sauce. It's not the most polished pub I've ever been to - but the food delivers big time. If you're going without a reservation, get there early!
R. L.
Great food excellent staff & chef's
L. B.
Really nice roast, was super busy though so took a while to get seated even though we had a reservation HOWEVER the staff are lovely and i am super impressed.
H. M.
Had an absolutely lovely lunch yesterday! Delicious food - great vego and meat options. The staff were lovely and we had a nice relaxed experience! Would definitely recommend and will definitely be returning!
B. D.
Staff are very friendly and the food is next level.
P. B.
The food was absolutely fantastic. Really good flavours, cooked incredibly. Definitely a place to go if you like good quality good.
S. K.
The food here was amazing! Certainly a bit pricey but was delicious.
J. D.
Came here for sunday lunch as it's well regarded and on our doorstep. The place is set out as a nice pub, with a busy kitchen and the place has a nice buzz. The focaccia on arrival is delicious and we started with the peppers starter which was tasty. The wine list is pretty ambitious, with not a huge amount of choice below £30 per bottle. We had the beef which was ok, but the char was the overpowering flavour and there wasn't any gravy, just the juice from the steak. My biggest peeve however, was the dessert list. no custard. really weird selection of desserts. people want a pudding and custard after a roast. 3/5 would come back if it had custard
M. G.
Great food, well priced wines, perfect local gastropub!
N. C.
Great Sunday lunch, better and more unusual than standard gastro pub fare. Nice decor / service / vibe.
C. K.
Effortless hosting with exquisite food. This was our last meal before London entered Tier 4 and what a send off The Camberwell Arms gave us. All the staff were warm and engaging. The food was delivered with ease and devoured, we barely spoke it was so good. They managed to keep us very merry with an excellent selection of low intervention and natural wines. We particularly enjoyed the fried Brussel sprouts with pickled onions. We look forward to visiting again when The Camberwell Arms is in full swing.
A. B.
The food is always incredible, never a bad dish! And the drinks are great too - thanks for making us some off menu classic cocktails on Saturday.
I. S.
Called in for a quick pint - Seemed ok, but didn't stay for the food, which looked superb!
Next time will definitely try the food!
L. D.
Just perfect. We booked dinner for two on a Tuesday night (it was my birthday!) and got there on time. I was worried at first that the staff weren’t super attentive, but actually the atmosphere was very relaxed and I just didn’t care later because the food was so fantastic.
We shared two starters (pork belly and green gage salad) which were both flawless. The variety of starters is fantastic. Slightly less choice with the mains (quite a lot of fish), but we shared the steak and WOW!! Just exactly right, nice potatoes, nice salad.
The staff weren’t the same kind of attentive like in a fancy restaurant (in fairness it’s not a fancy restaurant) but actually it came across that they didn’t pester you the whole time - they let us have a lovely meal, but they were always there if you needed something And they were very pleasant and helpful!
Definitely recommend booking, it was full when we went and it was a Tuesday!
Would definitely go back, planning to do so with all my friends and family (in safe group sizes!)
C. M.
This is the best Sunday lunch in London. Every bite is SENSATIONAL and the staff are lovely. Can’t thank them enough for adding a couple of guests to our table for my partners birthday yesterday
E. D.
everyone must go here and have the steak pie for 2 ! It is the best pie in the World !
S. K.
Roasts are back to their best. Excellent menu and wine pairing. Hats off to the team.
A. S.
Absolutely awesome, got to be the best place for Sunday lunch
J. H.
I really like it. The food is interesting, varied, and apparently the Sunday roasts are the best in the area. I wish there were more seats in the bar though.
H. T.
Been here 3 times now, twice for roasts and once on a date night, and it's never disappointed.
Food is interesting and delicious, even when going for unadventurous options like steak!
Its packed so booking is highly recommended, but we went at 8pm on a Wednesday night for our first dinner out since our daughter was born and we hadn't booked, but the wait staff were lovely and managed to fit us onto the bar area.
Otherwise, roasts on sundays are a tried and tested favourite. The sharing options are more than worth the money.
J. K.
Top class. Best restaurant in South London. Great service.
C. M.
Lovely food, drinks and staff. Great quality ingredients at a very reasonable price.
R. C.
Great pub, wonderful decor, drinks and food.
A. k.
Absolutely unreal. Best roast I've had in london topped off with incredible service.
E. W.
Love love love this place. The food is delicious and well priced, the front of house team are wonderful and it’s got such a great atmosphere. Will be back very soon!
M. B.
Outstanding quality and very reasonably priced. Accomplished gastropub, consistently good. I have been multiple times, my latest visit was yesterday for a special occasion (party of 20 guests). All our requirements and expectations were met/exceeded, service was excellent and food was delicious. "Best meal I've had in England" was one comment from an Italian member of our party. We highly recommend The Camberwell Arms and will definitely be back again soon.
G. W.
Excellent food and atmosphere. They go for interesting combinations of flavours whilst really pushing the best of the British meal.
Don't expect boring traditional pub food!
No bookings so expect a wait, but the bar area is pleasant and has quality snacks.
Top stuff!
J. H.
This was the best meal I've had in south London in a very long time. Beautiful fresh seasonal ingredients, great nuanced dishes and really knowledgeable staff. The raw fish starter and the duck were exceptional.
J.
We had tried a few times to get a table here but it was always fully booked. Finally we got one for Sunday lunch and it soon became clear why we'd struggled for so long. The food here is simply amazing. The roast menu is mainly sharing dishes but don't let that put you off. The steak and ale pie....phenomenal. The sirloin...very expensive but delicious and plenty for two. House red also top notch, and service with a smile. You'll need to call and book 3 weeks in advance!
A. D.
Amazing food! Need to come back for the roast
J.
Great place. Nice wines and the food was awesome. Very good quality of meals.
s. c.
Great venue. Knowledgeable and attentive staff, smashing food, using seasonal produce at fair prices. This business thrives on pleasing its punters, and that’s obvious as soon as you walk in.
We had a staff xmas party here, and ordered a fully vegan menu selection with no qualms, quibbles or questions - and it was sublime
An easy recommendation.
S. T.
We went to for a Sunday lunch here, and it did not disappoint.
The starters where incredible, the Ox heart kebab was a stand out!!!
But the main even, the pie, was something else. As you can see.
Really affordable drinks and fantastic service to.
Thanks guys!!
C. R.
Cracking Sunday roast in a relaxed pub atmosphere
J. A.
The Camberwell Arms is incredible and offers something for everyone; a wonderful restaurant with an inventive seasonal menu showcasing the best of British produce, a relaxed bar / pub with a great selection of beers, wine, and skilfully mixed cocktails. When I visited everything was perfectly cooked and delicious. A trip to The Camberwell Arms will not disappoint and you will be plotting your return visit before you have left.
J. “.
I was taken here today for the first time. In a word: a brilliant pub meal; the best I have had since we went to the Harwood arms a few years ago. A short menu of simply good food with a good varied wine list.
The occasion was Daughter B 's birthday. We celebrated with a natural French fizz from the Dordogne which was yeasty and a a bit appley. Daughter B' s crispy Brussels sprouts were pronounced "devine" and the mains of lamb and a family kitchen style beef and marrow bone pie were delicious. The latter being generous enough for more than two. The veggie options kept our Daughter A happy and very replete. The Cote de Rhône was a lovely companion. Simple pubs and friendly, informed service made it a memorable meal.
Not sure about the price. It wasn't cheap but was great value. Many thanks!
D.
The Camberwell Arms is a top venue. Their service is always excellent and the menu has a stunning selection of dishes - you’ll find it virtually impossible to pick only one.
Yes, it may look like an ordinary pub from the outside, but step in through the doors and you’ll be transported to foodie heaven. Five stars!
K. B.
Food was good, we shared the beef and bone marrow pie, which came with a side of mash and buttered cabbage, it was tasty, although I thought the pie could of done with a little more meat. Definitely book in advance if you want to eat here, we booked on the day and consequently were crammed in on a tiny table, where we kept getting interrupted by the movement of other diners.
H. D.
Recently moved to Camberwell and came with my family for a Sunday meal.. one veggie, one fussy and two that would eat anything. Everyone was delighted with their meal - my dad said it was the best roast he'd ever had. Pasta was as good as you'd have in Padella/Trullo and service was friendly too.
M. S.
Good at home was ordered Saturday afternoon at 4pm and arrived at 6.30!!
In the lockdown I’d lost track of days and thought it would arrive in a few days!!
Amazing service, post lockdown hopefully this sort of service/offer will be the new normal.. Planned evenings in with great food and money going to the pub rather than huge chunks to Tech tax dodgers like Deliveroo
Z. L.
A local favourite, a reasonably mixed crowd. Beer selection is a bit stale but the food is excellent. Try the suet pastry pies! The charcuterie board is actually better than anywhere else in the area. Friendly staff.
K. C. S.
Great - but not perfect. Great flavours, interesting combos and new ingredients. The sauce with the Gnudi was slightly under reduced. The rhubarb desert needed more rhu and less custard. Le Vallon was banging. Canuk waitress also really good. Thanks and will be back.
J. C.
Great beers like Orbit and Brockley Brewery. Dining experince is a nice balance of classy but unpretentious. Lighting is slightly cold and dingey - just needs a bit more cosy warm lighting by the bar!
B. P.
The Sunday roast was perfect! Highly recommended! 👌👌
C. H.
Really really amazing service from Alex! We had such a really good time, we were a bit disappointed by the rabbit and Alex apologised and offered us the desert, the rest of the food was great! The rest of the staff was smily and attentive to every customer! All round a great place to have dinner.
A. K.
Amazing food. Unique ingredients cooked in imaginative ways. Never disappoints!
S. V.
Have eaten here twice and have to applaud a pub attempting to bring this kind of standard to Camberwell. The area has been getting some quality places to eat in recent years, most notably the Angel and gypsy tapas place which unfortunately closed down. We had smoked salmon and grilled mackerel starters which were both really excellent followed by lamb which perhaps was not quite as good, cooked rare almost to the point of being raw which I'm not a major fan of. Still, everything else I've eaten here has been pretty top notch but prices are fairly robust so it needs to be consistent. Would agree with an earlier comment that having several items as 'sharing' dishes kinda limits the menu quite a bit. Contrary to a few other reviews I found the service to be very good. Definitely a good place to eat in Camberwell, recommended.
D. C.
More of a restaurant than a pub. Great Sunday lunch. Very tasty with some interesting combinations. Most dishes were for sharing.
Good selection of beer as well.
E. B.
I had to downgrade my original review because each time I have visited I have been so frustrated with their serving restrictions. Too many tasty dishes that are only for 2 or 3 people. Was hoping to go and enjoy the Roast Lamb with my wife only to see its a dish for 3. Ridiculous. Come on man. Its nice to share but not good if you are forced into it.
N. C.
The food is sensational. The pie is one of the best things I've ever eaten. Dog friendly too, which is always a bonus for me. The decor lacks warmth though, hence I've not given 5 stars
v. t.
Food, wine, beers, staff - all amazing.
e. n.
Nice pub in Camberwell, great atmosphere, I was there during Christmas holidays. The staff is very kind and always available to help. I loved the open kitchen! Food wasn't super but good enough and worth the price.
E. W.
Manages to balance the feel of a local London pub with great seasonal food. Lovely cocktail list and decent wine list and beers too! So lucky to have the arms at the end of our road!
P. O.
Finally a pub in London that serves restaurant quality food - highly recommended
C. C.
This is an interesting gastro pub with lots of vegetarian options, for the meet lovers the beef bone marrow pie is nice, price is very good £15 for two course a la carte lunch during the week is very good value for money, very good options on beverages
W. B.
I am getting old, so the acoustics were unbearable. The younger, or less curmudgeonly around me seemed unpeterbed by the noise, or simply joined in by shouting even more loudly.
Would like to try the restaurant, it seemed less loud and with nicer lighting. I think 5 stars await!
C. R.
I found this pub as I have been to the Anchor & Hope on The Cut many times and found out they had The Camberwell Arms too, conveniently near one of the locations that I work. The food is fantastic here and never fails. A great take on real English Gastro Pub food the pub also has A great atmosphere and service to match.
The kitchen runs down one side of the Pub with seating at a bar that allows you to see the Chefs in action while you sit and eat the food they have lovingly made for you.
From what I remember there was also no loud or obnoxious music.
Please note that currently googles interior/exterior views of the pub are out of date, it has a far cosier warmer design with the bar on the left wall and the kitchen on the right wall.
Pubs and restaurants can't help but put up with their clients that walk through the door. If they were selective they would then get bad reviews about being snobby or pretentious, it is a variable for all pubs and restaurants and is not a review of the restaurant.
C. O.
Based on the money you're paying (£15-£25 for a main course): Portions are served on small plates to give the illusion that you're getting a lot of food. However, your stomach will tell you otherwise. Also, no Yorkshire pudding with the roast and no mint sauce (for the lamb). Really? On the upside, the food tastes good. Back to the bad, whilst the service was friendly, we felt we were rushed out of our seats, so they could be filled with new customers. Go back? Probably not. Plenty good competition in this marketplace.
R. D.
Very good food and great atmosphere. Very good value for money. It is easy to come to this restaurant and it is placed ideally in camberwell. Bus 36 is just around the corner and lots of other pub and / or restaurants are around. Highly recommended.
G. S.
The food is delicious, and very reasonably priced for the quality (although be warned it’s more expensive than standard pub fair, but well worth it).
Easily the best restaurant in Camberwell, but if you’re looking for a casual drink try elsewhere.
S. “. H.
Hake aqua pazza ('crazy water' in Italian): a light broth with tomatoes, olives and capers. I love hake - it is hands down my favourite type of fish. This dish was pleasant and flavoursome. The lobster raviolli starter wasn't quite up to scratch though - tough and thick raviolli pastry encasing a barely-there taste of the lobster. Service staff were polite and pleasant. All in all a foodies kind of pub. I would have expected a couple of typical pub grub favourites on the menu though.
S. J.
Very tight layout, difficult to get to the bar. Friendly staff. Once you've moaned about the poncyness of the food and googled what all the ingredients are before ordering, you will be very happy with the deliciousness placed in front of you!
v. b.
Great atmosphere. Busy and fun. Staff are helpful and lovely. Food is delicious!! Went there for a get together and really enjoyed it.
N. B.
Fantastic meal; well balanced flavours and perfect portion sizes. Service was good too, but did go on a Wednesday evening so wasn't that busy. Will definitely be going again.
B. D.
One of the best gastropubs out there. Great food and service. Often change in the menu too.
R. M.
A wonderful local gastro boozer... The pork fat on toast chased down with a pint of ale is reason to go. The clever, simple, grill heavy menu and stellar wine list is reason to stay
L. S.
I come here to eat a night every other week - at least. It's just that good: the menu is always different, and the quality of the plates is top notch. (And it's relatively affordable too!)
H. S.
Nice pub, much better than your average 'pub that does food'. Sunday roasts are good, cocktails are reasonably priced, nice decor.
B. N.
Some of the dishes seemed slightly inspired or influenced by the wonderful St. John, and there was even a row of hooks on the white back wall. The pork fat on toast, for example were a delicious response to Sinjun's bones, and finding ox heart and cheek in different dishes was a definite doff of the hat to the nose to tail movement.
This is a cosier and edgier establishment that deserves to be judged on its own merits tho'. The fat on toast was artfully cut through with the sharp chilli oil, but would have been wonderful with or without it. The little ox heart kebab was my favourite dish, a pleasing tribute to boozy late nights, with the choice of heart also reminding me of a classic Peruvian anticucho. Burnt purple broccoli and burrata with Jerusalem artichokes were also all good. The pub itself had a rather uninspired range of beers and for post-meal hops the Stormbird is probably a better bet!
T. M.
Good food reasonably priced. Nice atmosphere and good drinks selection. Definitely more of a restaurant than a pub. Think owned by same people who own the Anchor & Hope.

Love the chilled Gamay here. Food is always interesting, if on occasion challenging - in a good way.
The open kitchen provides atmosphere.

Cracking place , always great for food, staff are always friendly busy bar but shows how popular it is. All age groups too not just old badgers but young hipsters too . Check it out.

This place has food and ambiance absolutely nailed down. Best gastro pub south of the river. Excellent on numerous repeat visits.

had dinner on a saturday night, the big beef pie to share is amazing - only knocked off a star because a lot of the food is to share and i’m a bit grumpy and don’t like to share food 🙈
bar area is also quite nice for a few drinks
C. H.
Lovely food - veggie options are great and very imaginative.
Get extremely busy and good to book in advance.

Beautiful food; the chefs don't shy away from flavour, served by interested staff who are happy to discuss the food.
A. C.
Can't speak for the restaurant - the pub part is a slightly charmless room and the staff not v friendly, BUT the Harvey's Best is absolutely excellent and on a quiet afternoon you can sit in the window very pleasantly.
M. T.
Beautiful pub in the heart of Camberwell - great selection of wines and beers, I’d love to see more vegan options in their food menu.
T. P.
Quality Gastro Pub, Amazing Food. From the same team at The Anchor and Hope at the Cut, Waterloo, Canton Arms, South Lambeth Road and Great Queen Street, Holborn/Covent Garden.
P. W.
Great food and really good for coeliacs as they know exactly what's going in the food and the staff are careful to check. Make sure you book on busy nights though.

First time been disappointed with food 3 dishes were excellent 3 not at all cuttle fish too chewy and doused in chilli cabbage burnt rather than roasted shame as normally top range food here as in sister pubs
P. L.
Had some really fantastic cocktails, and then almost knocked Natalie Portman on her arse when coming out of the loo. Pretty memorable night overall.

Very tight layout, difficult to get to the bar. Friendly staff. Once you've moaned about the poncyness of the food and googled what all the ingredients are before ordering, you will be very happy with the deliciousness placed in front of you!
