Reviews of The Laughing Halibut
N. M.
Good hole in the wall type place, sit down area as well as takeout. Nothing fancy, no alcohol served, but food hit the spot. Speaking as a tourist, I thought the cod and chips were great!
D. R. L. G.
Traditional Cod with chips was amazing.
The fish was crunchy on the outside and soft/well cooked on the inside.
Very good service and nice/clean bathroom (kind of small though 😂)
L. L.
Lovely little fish and chips restaurant tucked away from the main streets.
We had a standard Cod fish & chips and a Plaice fish & chips. I loved the crispy batter which made this supposedly oily dish tastes non-greasy and rather satisfying. They also fried the fish upon ordering so you don't get those soggy lukewarm fish like in many other fish and chips restaurants.
One thing worth noting is that the ketchup they provided was pretty sharp but I quite like it. It balances well with the thick cut chips with a sprinkle of salt.
It was a great little traditional restaurant that we stumbled upon. I'd recommend it.
S. I.
Good fish and cozy restaurant with a few beard hairs in my food for flavor, I guess. It's not a huge deal to me, I live with cats. It was really pretty expensive though and I love the little street it's on with a ton of other spots to explore.
R. H.
Good fish and chips and good friendly service.
S. C.
The chips are wonderful. Prices for the fish have increased recently which was a surprise so value for money affected. Debating on whether it's worth it. Yes who am I kidding, I probably will still go back.
H. L.
We stopped in here on a coach sightseeing trip this evening and we had fish and chips and a drink. It was cooked fresh, was piping hot and absolutely delicious.
The staff were friendly and cheerful and very efficient.
I would highly recommend a visit 🙂🙂🙂
J. B.
Best rock salmon I've had in a very long time. The chips are also very good and the staff is incredibly nice. Definitely get some traditional fish and chips here, if you're in the area!
A. L.
The fried Cod is superb. Crispy on the outside and tender juicy on the inside. The crispy batter is quite thin
which I like it very much.
The potato chip served hot but just normal still i like it.
The owner is very courteous.
Need to go early because seating area is quite small
S. H.
A good old fashioned fish & chip shop. I loved it.
Everything is freshly cooked, with crispy batter and golden chips. Digging into the cod was a delight, and despite the portion size I managed to finish it, just. The regular portion is a generous serve, I didn’t see the large serve but probably big enough for two.
Whilst there are many things on the menu including savoys, burgers, chicken etc if you’re so inclined.
There is a seating area to the rear, perfect for a rainy night. You can also have takeaway, which seems equally popular with the locals.
A. J.
I already miss this fish chips that I've ever had! Good portion with fair price, it's simple restaurant but a variety of dishes you can try here! I will definitely come back when visiting London next time!
S. N.
The food was great . We dined in Laughing Halibut twice within a week. Would recommend to anyone looking for halal dining options to this quaint restaurant. Mustafa and Aishah were exceptional in their service. Would definitely make a visit if we are back in London.
A. B.
One of the best fish and chips I've tasted
B.
Decent local fish and chips. Came at 7pm which was an hour before closing so I guess that's why the fish and the chicken felt a bit dry and soggy as it wasn't just out of the fryer but has been cooked a while ago. Overall service is good and fast, staff reasonably friendly too. Maybe best to come during peak times so food is hot and fresh
I.
Yeah wasn't bad, comparable to an ok fish n chips shop in Melbourne. We had the haddock, very similar to flake and the batter was nice. For our tastes the chips could have been left in a little longer to make them a bit crisper but once dipped into that sensational curry sauce, well it's really just about the curry sauce, I started eating it straight from the bowl :)
M. R.
Really friendly welcoming staff and good quality chips. Often have my work lunches here and always greeted with a smile and attentive service.
J. K.
Good old English fish and chips style. Good prices for central London and nice crew. Took them about 15 minutes in busy time which isn't bad. The serving was massive and fed both of us easily. Thanks for great experience guys.
D. “. H.
Had my first Fish & Chips here. It was really good. Full but not crowded and very tourist friendly. If you are near Big Ben and want to get off the beaten path this is a great spot.
B. B. T.
Amazing fish and chips! Fresh filets of your favorite fish, hand breaded and fried to order. I like how you can see the whole process and it has a small dining experience. You will see why they are so highly reviewed!
Will definitely be back next time I come to London.
N. K.
Surprisingly good fish and chips. We were in the area and looking for somewhere to eat. Saw the reviews and decide to give it a try. The kids menu was not so great, fish fingers. But the fish and chips was just right. There were a lot of people when we visited. Price was reasonable too.
P. D.
This place was so crazily expensive. For common fish and fries you pay around 25£ with their very high exchange rate in their terminal when you pay with card.
The fish was good, fresh.
J. C.
Service, price and cleanliness, I give a 5. The food I would give a 3.
We ordered burgers and cod. The cod fish itself was yummy, the batter on the outside lacked imagination. The burgers were the premise frozen patty type, not too delicious but not not disgusting.
Our wait staff and the cooks were very friendly and very quick. The place smelled delicious and was very clean. The price was great, about £6 for a 1/4 burger with loads of chips. The portion sizes were very large as well.
M. M.
Shared a large haddock and large chips with one other person. Wasn't excessively oily and tasted great, big enough to feed the two of us. Friendly and helpful staff.
Definitely would go back if I lived in London.
L. T.
Wonderful little fish & chips shop without all the craziness of typical touristy places. Family owned and super friendly staff. The fish was great - seemed caught, not frozen or bagged. Would definitely come again!
R. P.
Loved this place! We were visiting London from the US and wanted to make sure we got some classic fish and chips. This was the perfect place! They were very friendly too. Very yummy halibut!! (:
J. T.
Lovely place for fish and chips.
Food we ordered tasted good, service was excellent, everyone had a smile on their face and very friendly.
Even though only staying in London a few days, hope to have the chance to go visit again!
T. Y.
Nice family run business the cod was cooked how I like it lightly battered as per my request. Would highly recommend
F. G.
I can totally understand the good reviews. This is definitely one of the best fish and chips I've ate so far around the UK. And as a big bonus it is next to some cool Hotspots of London.
R. K.
They are nice to the customers lovely place
R. N.
I've been a regular of this fish and chip shop for approx 25 years. The best Fish & Chip shop in SW1 by a long way
C. B.
The fish and chips here were amazing.
If you're a tourist and looking for a great local restaurant, this is it!
I also had a beef and onion pie that was really delicious.
S. K.
Best fish and chips in London in my opinion 😋
D. T.
Best fish and chips I had while I the UK. I tried several different places and while they were good The Laughing Halibut was the best. I got the haddock and chips. This place is quick and everything if hot when served. I got my out to go and it was still hot after my 15 min walk. I added some salt to my fish and chips and it really added to the flavor of the fish. This is the place to go for good fish and chips!
J. D.
Chose this place for my fish and chips experience in London and I can't think of one negative aspect! The employees were patient and friendly. We ordered the cod and halibut for comparison- halibut was better suited for our taste buds, but both delicious. Perfectly fried. Crispy on the outside, soft inner layer. Fries were average. Liked the HP brown sauce and vinegar so much that I stocked up on the condiments before returning to the States. Yum yum!
B. G.
Great place to grab some classic fish and chips. The portion were huge but we'll priced. We also got a beef and onion pie, nice flavor but crust was a little soft. Definitely a good place to stop and would come back again
I. S.
One of my favourite fish and chips places to go to. The fish and chips is just what your would expect and with good portion serving. Service is friendly and off the beaten track from Victoria, so a local gem. Has been in the area for a long time so speaks for itself.
M. M.
A little hole-in-the-wall joint with the best fried fish I've ever had. The chips were barely mediocre, but that was OK cuz the fish was fantastic. Decent prices and friendly staff. The shop is tiny, not much seating but they also have take away.
E. C.
My bf and just arrived in London and came across this place. Food was great not as greasy as you would think. Later we found out from our Airbnb host that this is the best place to have fish and chips, good quality and affordable.
Highly recommend this place.
The service was great everyone was very nice and welcoming.
L. V.
Highly recommend this place as this is the best fish and chip place in London. Home family style with great cod fish and the best kidney pie ever. The Manager is so friendly and has a lovely British elegant style, which is such a big plus to 5 stars as I wish I could give it 6
D. L.
Good quality fish and chips in a family friendly environment
J. P.
THE BEST FISH & CHIPS AT WESTMINSTER. What a place, quality and fast service. This well established family business is just making a huge difference in the westminster area. Friday comes and fish and chips is what you need!!! Enjoy your Monday - Fridays with a lovely halibut!!!! The business has been 35 YEARS ESTABLISHED...The experience and the love, passion, work they put into the business is just incredible and to admire. It is honourable to promote businesses with this characteristics, family orientated, honest and reliable products. This is what business is all about. #GreatService #TOPFISH&CHIPS #TOPRESTAURANT
S.
Not the best cod and chips I ever had. The batter could have been thicker and crispier. Owner seemed friendly
M. Z.
Great Cod, chips and pies, wonderful and quick service
M. L. A.
If I could get on a plane to London right now, when I landed I would go back here for lunch, dinner, snack, whenever. Wonderfully family owned, they just made you feel comfortable. We had halibut of course and cod. YUM! 😋
E.
Good fish and chips. Take note that if you dine in, get a seat right away,- don't order at the counter because the prices are different (higher if you eat in, of course).
Had a cod and chips (9.50 GBP), and a cream soda. Fish was good, crisp but could have been deskinned. Not a fan of the fake vinegar they have on tables, but not a big deal. However, if you're looking for a place that fries fish ready to order (and are somehow a stickler about it- the taste was still quite good), then note that there was some fish under the warmer.
M. M.
Food was very good, better than expected. Sercer was funny and very friendly.
M. S.
Great food but otherwise a small place. The chips are amazing!
P. A.
Fresh and tasty cod. Chip's are OK too 👍
D. M.
Looks like a local place with delicious food and excellent and fun staff. Prices were very reasonable. Food was ready quickly. We came here on a Friday afternoon and it wasn't too crowded although had a constant flow of people. Will be stopping here next time we're in London.
S. H.
Great food and very friendly staff. I would highly recommend it
V. G.
Classical fish and chips place, family run. Below market price, and average to good quality. This results in a high quality to price ratio. Everyone was very nice and kind. Would recommend it.
J. T.
Solid food. Great prices (esp for the area). Quick service. Lovely staff.
M. T.
Very good. Doesn't look like it from outside. Fast service. Fresh fish. Good chips. Strongly recommend.
J. S.
Very good food, staff very friendly!
Definitely will be back soon
A. G.
Quite mediocre unfortunately. The chips were very tasty with quite a big portion. The regular cod was very small and thin and tasted like mush. The curry sauce was bland.
A. S.
Great food and amazing service. Can't believe I didn't go earlier.
S. H.
Highly recommended fish and chip shop both for take away or dining in. Portions are good and of excellent quality.
A. K.
I’ve been frequenting this fine establishment since my childhood. As a connoisseur of English Cuisine, I can say with some authority that it ranks as the best Chippie in town. In brief adjectives: authentic, succulent and superior.
k. e.
Yep! Fish and chips are goooood. Come here for a naughty lunch once in a while. Good friendly and quick service. Fish is tasty.
G. T.
Always great food always fresh always hot all classic favourites
G. S.
Great food, great place to get proper chips! Reasonabley priced and the staff are all friendly
W. L.
Outstanding fish and chips, came all the way from Colorado and would make the trip again for them.
G. [.
Nice restaurant , nice people and great food. Keep ip up guys and even improve if you can. Cheers
M. O.
Lovely fish and chips and lovely service 😋😋😋
V. S.
Very fresh fish and chips at a fare price considering London prices. I went early for lunch and they were very kind.
R. P.
Good fish and chip shop, highly recommended,
m. q.
Great food friendly staff. Eat in or take out. Located close to Westminster Abbey
R. M.
For me, this is the best fish and chips in London. Amazing chips, the freshest fish and the service is impeccable. Lovely family run establishment, they really take pride in the quality of their food. It's not just churned out like in your normal chippy. In the summer, I'd recommended putting some time aside to go for lunch. Get there early though as there are regular queues that go out of the shop and round the corner!! Highly recommended.
I. C.
Great fish and chips will be going again .
A. E.
Not you average fish and chips shop fresh and tasty top quality products used may be expensive but the size of the fish is amazing and tastes fresh. I van eat their chips with salt and viniger all day the staff are very nice and friendly always smiling no matter how busy lunch time the queen goes out the door. But they still say thank you and next please must try
B. M.
If you are not local, and want to try some great local fare this is your place. Eat where the locals eat. This place was within easy walking distance of our hotel and we wanted to do some fish/chips. Given the majority of the reviews it was obvious this low key restaurant was going to deliver on food and service. When we arrived there were at least six people in line getting take away, line out the door.
I had the scampi (shrimp) and chips and the hubs got the Haddock and chips. The service was on point, quick and very friendly. The food came fast, but not too fast and was fresh (never thought I would describe fried food as fresh but whatever) and super tasty. I had to try that HP sauce and I guess it was not bad... hard to describe. At any rate, we loved our meal at this local gem and the price including tip was fantastic (especially in contrast to other restaurants we tried on this trip).
D. I.
Best fish I've had in a long long time
A. S.
Right on the top or our list for halal friendly fish & chips! We've had quite a few around town.. And these guys are still able to leave us craving for more each time.
J. B.
My review is simply from the eyes of a tourist
If you are a tourist looking for a place that's going to be super cheery, jump with joy and welcome you in the door and be overly friendly and then when you don't recieve that you complain and give it a one star rating, this is not the place for you.
If you are a tourist looking for some of the best fish and chips in London, then this is the place for you.
The fish here is super fresh tasting and they hand batter and fry it to order. Same with the chips. I went ahead and spent the extra money and got the halibut. Absolutely worth it.
One word of advice, if you are wanting to sit and eat, head straight to the back, sit down and look at the menu on the table. Don't stand in the doorway and stare at the menu behind the counter blocking everyone.
P. O.
Great tasting halibut and ginger beer. Unassuming place with great service!
C. G.
Very good fish and chips - had been opened for 30 years +, they definitely know what they are doing! Thanks for the beautiful food!
M. S.
This is one of my favorite London restaurants. When I visit London, fish and chips is a priority, and I have yet to find better fish and chips than what's served at The Happy Halibut. Perfect golden crust encases juicy white flesh. If I worked in the vacinity, I would make a point to lunch here at least once a week!
A. W.
The best traditional fish n chip in london
K. W.
The fish is very tasty, the waitress is very helpful. Nice place, good prices.
B. O.
Absolutely wonderful! If you're looking for a perfect example of what fish & chips should be, there's a reason this place is so highly rated and recommended. Also, their other offerings are great; I'm an American and fan of diners, and the cheeseburger I had was great. Waitstaff is also great. Be warned this place is often very busy, especially Fridays, but don't let the potential crowd put you off.
C. m.
My wish as tourist was to taste fish and chips. This is really the place to go. Very friendly staff, even it was very crowded. They were very fast and the fish and chips were delicious! Dear owners. Please consider going global and open one restaurant in Rotterdam, the Netherlands very soon or we could consider moving in to London ;-)
M. W.
Fish and chips are ALWAYS freshly cooked and absolutely delicious. Prices have increased over the last 3 years because of their popularity but it is still excellent value. Avoid Friday lunch times - you will be queuing for ages to get in.
J. G.
For my money the best genuine fish & chips to be found anywhere in London. The fish is always fresh and perfectly cooked, with just the right level of batter. The chips are true chippy style, also cooked just right. The dead basic seating and decor just adds to the authenticity. This is the real deal, and modestly priced too.
R. R.
Great fish and chips basket. They have several types of fish but why go with anything but the namesake? There are other items on the menu as well if you don't like fish. Good size portions. Reasonable prices and the service was decent. I would certainly return.
I. Y.
Simple, no frills fish and chips at an extremely affordable price. Highly recommend the cod (which locals apparently prefer over the halibut?) and the generous portion of fries was much appreciated. Mushy peas were interesting and the extensive menu should have something for everyone. HP sauce, ketchup, malt vinegar and tartar sauce were provided as well.
C. W.
I eat there every week - it's excellent. Best fish and chips in central London. Only reason why I haven't given it 5 stars is because it is not quite as good as fish and chips up North. But there's only a hair's breadth in it! Don't fancy queuing? Walk inside and eat in.
E. C.
I've been visiting this great place for 15 years now and the fish and chips are consistently good. Amongst the best in London. Highly recommended and worth a visit to Victoria just for lunch in this well run restaurant. And with St James's park a short walk away and Westminster Abbey and Parliament close by, a well cooked lunch here would be part of a great day.
S.
There are not many proper traditional fish and chip shop like the left in and its particularly rare being in central London. Great food, great staff can highly recommend. Its definitely my new 'local' and it will be well worth the bus ride!
D. E.
Great food, friendly service and good prices. We thoroughly enjoyed the authentic fish and chips experience and the Cornish Pasty was delicious as well. We went for the large haddock and were not disappointed: huge, perfectly done and very flavorful. Lots of chips, sauces and kindness were offered by the staff. My only complaint was that there was no beer, but it didn't take away from the experience.
J. L.
Absolutely delicious fresh fish - friendly staff.
J. F.
Had some fish and chips there. The waiter was nice. The price for the quality is also good. Good way to try the famous english dish without having to waste an incredible amount of money.
Would go again!
B. H.
Our favourite take away was served up with
michelin 3 stars, it was faultless. I was in a hurry, late lunch and what a surprise beautiful.
I consider myself an expert on making good chips so my marks on them should be in context. What potato they use I'd like to know. The fish batter too was perfect. Great to see a dish still being to carefully prepared thanks.
B. K.
My wife and I were on vacation from the US and wanted some authentic fish and chips. After searching around we decided on The Laughing Halibut and we were NOT disappointed! Looking at the people coming and going while we were eating there, it’s clear the locals enjoy it very much and we could see why. The service was excellent and the fish was breaded and cooked fresh to perfection. We will return next time we’re back!
E. L. G.
Brilliant food, I had the regular cod and chips and my boyfriend had battered sausage and chips. The portion sizes were huge and the food was really good quality. Also the price was really affordable. If you're out near parliament or St James Park sightseeing then this is definitely worth a visit, you won't be disappointed.
A.
Excellent fish and chips. It's a bit more expensive to eat in as opposed to takeaway but it's still worth the money. The chips are all made from fresh potatoes (as opposed to deep fried frozen chips) and the fish is all freshly cooked. Our waiter was a bit snappy but it was pretty busy at the time.
o. e.
This place is vert busy yet it has great food in reasonable price, the staff was kind and generous!
C. H.
Large portions, fresh fish, and reasonable prices. What more could you ask for?
We went for dinner on a Friday evening and ordered the Haddock & Chips, Calamari & Chips, and Onion Rings. The latter, I could probably do without if I went again though. The calamari were huge (initially I thought they were the onion rings) and I loved the batter used on them. The fish and chips could have been more seasoned, though a quick sprinkle of salt and squeeze of lemon did the trick. Service was quick and they seemed to turn tables at a good rate, despite the place being full the entire time we were there.
J. S.
Long running family business that takes pride in the quality of the food served here. Often long queue of people. But well worth the wait. Definitely the best fish and chip shop in London.
Also has a seating to sit in at the back. Equally good service. Very friendly people. With very decent sized platefuls. Very good with children of all ages too. Highly recommend!
In close proximity Victoria Street, and Horseferry Road.
Nearest station is St James's Park.
A. O.
Amazing! Beautiful traditional fish and chips, great service! Massive portions! One large between the two of us was enough though for the big eaters there is enough! Also great value! Best fish and chips in London!
G. A.
Simply amazing, the best fish and chips I've ever had! Additionally, service was quick and the personnel was very nice. The prices are also good. I definitely recommend it!
T. P.
Great fish and chips here. I had the halibut and my wife had the cod. We both enjoyed our meals and loved the flavor and non fishyness. The staff was all nice. One staff member showed us and explained the different pound coins (only our second day visiting london). Great place, would return.
A. J.
Amazing fish - more space would be fine
T. G.
The Laughing Halibut is, by far, the best fish and chips restaurant you will EVER find. EVER. I want to take a trip back into London just for this restaurant!! There were 6 of us in our party, and every meal came out perfect.
You can see the chefs in the kitchen from almost any seat in the restaurant, and you can see how fresh the fish is. The fish we got tasted as though they had gone out and caught the fish that morning, no joke.
Service was great, the spot is a little small but this doesn't matter whatsoever (just an FYI for big parties).
I CANNOT WAIT to eat here again! Oh, how I wish I lived in London.... 😔
E. F.
Traditional style chippy serving mainly fish and chips. I had battered haddock and chips myself, the fish was good and the batter light and crispy. A popular place which gets quite busy. There is a takeaway trade but I have only tried sitting down inside.
D.
Fabulous fish and chips in old English style
P. N. C.
Great fish, not so great chips. Tried to haddock.. really liked that, flaky, moist just so, great batter. But the dang chunky chips were like half cooked... what a dang shame for a takeaway to be disappointing like that... with the reviews here and other sites, was hoping to be blown away, and wasn't.
G. M.
Fish was good; small cheap salad on the plate with standard frozen fries. Also had a bottle of peach tea. Almost $30 for 1 meal. Tarter sauce came in those little plastic packages. Bathroom......if I had seen it first I would have passed on the meal.
M. S.
We are Americans visiting London from Colorado. This is an incredible place to experience fish and chips! The very first bite brought back childhood memories of living in England. The food is perfect and the staff is very friendly! This place is a must visit!!!
G. G.
One of the best fish and chips shops in Central London.
W. M. W.
The real deal! Where the locals go! Right when you walk in its a quaint style diner type restaurant . The front is Take Away . The back you seat yourself and somone will serve you . Average price is about 12 pounds for Fish and Chips. They give you a heaping size of cod and chips (French fries) . As a Yank I must say I liked every bite and ambiance of the true taste and feel of London and British cuisine. A must if your staying in area! PS staff very attentive and great service
N. M.
Fish and chips at its best. Every time I've been there I am always amazed with their consistency for cooking fish to perfection and making the batter equally as good.
Expect large portions, great staff and fast service. This is certainly the best fish and chips shop in the area and easily one of the best in London.
C. c.
If you’re looking for a traditional British fish n chip shop then look no further, this place has it all! I had the fish n chips as well as battered sausage and it was heaven. Friendly service and seating available.
R. “. A.
Amazing customer service every time! This has been my local chip shop since I was a child, it is family run and has a wide selection on the menu
T. A.
My husband and I were here on vacation and wanted authentic fish n' chips, and we found it with "The Laughing Halibut". The family owned restaurant was pleasant and quick to service you. And the food was amazing! Thank you "The Laughing Halibut "
D. C.
We get Fish and Chips here 2-3 times a month. The batter is crispy and the chips are tasty. Crucially, they do mushy peas, curry and gravy. The staff are nice and friendly too.
It's a great shame that the Laughing Halibut closes at 8pm.
We have also eaten in the restaurant at the back which was a pleasant experience.
L. R.
Always the first choice for fish and chips in the area, worth even the extra walk. Super friendly staff, never had any issues either with quality of my food or the service overall. Definitely must have / eat.
J. F.
Our 1st time in London and we had Great fish & chips here! We ordered the cod and the haddock. Haddock was my favorite. Everything was cooked fresh & tasted fresh! And the service was on point as well as very friendly.
C. E.
Excellent fish & chips, and even better service.
Thoroughly recommend and I will be returning again soon
K. Z.
My first thought was on damn it's hot in here. They need to get some fan or ac going with all the frying going on. Fish isn't that well seasoned but it's definitely fresh. I am not a fan of their fries (chip). Do order the large portion thou. Sauce is served in one of those purchased packaged which seems a bit less homemade.
S. K.
Great local chippie in Wesminster. There is nothing fancy about it with maybe 10 tables on the inside. Fish and chips fried to order. You know it's a good place when the locals come in and chat with the workers and the workers ask if they'll have their usual today.
A. H.
Pleasant staff. Excellent food. Quick service.
t. k.
Classic fish and chips, brought me back memories of old times growing up in New Zealand :). Nothing special, just good ol' fnc. Service could be better when dining in, considering the price difference from takeout.
I. R.
Staff was friendly and helped us navigate the menu (we were newbies to fish and chips), everything was tasty. There are lots of different sauces to try but in my opinion the best option is simple tartar sauce. There was a brown sauce on the table that everyone tried and thought was gross but I'm sure some people like it. They've got something for everyone! Also as a Texan, I was greatly appreciative of them having Dr. Pepper.
R. F. I.
The fish here is pretty good, but the calamari here is OUTSTANDING. I would come here just for that. I've had better French Fries though so that was a small let down. It's a great place to visit if you're looking for a classic F&C meal!
L. M.
The best fish & chips, friendly service. A shame we cant eat in at the moment but just as delicious to take home too!
K. S.
A family owned restaurant with good traditional food and great fast service
D. C.
My favourite chip shop in the Victoria area (although I do not think its the only one). It has a seating area which you can make use of if your there for a late lunch and it's great value for fish and chips.
D. N.
I'm from the coast, it's hard to find good fish and chips in London which are not poshed up or pricey. This is a good and classic no frills chippy with prices to match. Real fish and chips as you expect them to be.
F. O.
3 minutes walk from Scotland Yard HQ, this is definitely the best choice in the Westminster/Victoria area to enjoy a Fish'n'chips. Excellent fish, very large portions, nice chips: moreover, reasonable prices for the zone (9 pounds at the restaurant for the main+drink, obviously less for the takeaway).
Very pleasant and discreet service, I'm not surprised it is often mentioned in the top5 for the best Fish&Chips in London :)
M. R.
Super long queue into the street, staff seemed unprepared for lunchtime and were always waiting for something to be ready. Loads of school kids pushing in and asking their friends who were ahead to order for them. I made a special trip after reading good reviews but unfortunately the food was pretty average after all that.
B. Z.
Nothing fancy but food was good and you get value for money :)
R. S.
Excellent fish and chip restaurant and take away. I have been going for many years. Staff amazing. Food brillant. The reason i did not give it 5 star . Chicken is not so juicy as i want it. Please dont over cook please. Also way close so early 8 pm. I know it is a market road but i do strongly believe it will still be busy.
S. D.
By no means the cheapest fish and chips in London but certainly amongst the best. True, around the Victoria area through to Whitehall you would be pressed to find a traditional fish and chip spot so yes it has an advantage. However the chips taste great, generous in portion and the fish is not all batter.
On weekdays, especially between 12 - 14:00 expect to wait in line as the workers head out for a fish and chip lunch. Eating inside is a tad expensive and the eat in experience is just adequate but the staff are efficient and friendly.
J. D.
A place to visit! Local people in a cozy atmosphere. Good fish and chips platter (generous portion) and the mushy peas are also good. You must try the "shady" drink, which is not beer but it is quite refreshing. Beer is better !! LOL!!
D. M.
The best fish and chips the staff is outstanding and very friendly. I highly recommended this place. I ate mine with my fingers and never smelled like fish. That’s how fresh it is.” Outstanding “
d. t. t. h.
Love the place. Food always being freshly cooked. Friendly staff. Lovely tasting fish and chips. Fast service, not rushed. Would visit again.
D. V.
Good food! It is really one of the best fish & chips restaurants. The interior needs to be retouched but this becomes completely unimportant after you taste the food.
J.
Great customer service the fried chicken and chips is a nice combo as well as Jamaican patty and chips it's a good chip shop to visit.
A. G.
The Laughing Halibut is a staple of Strutton Ground, which is a staple of Westminster Food. Excellent customer service, this decades old landmark serves probably the best fish and chips for a mile or two. And they also serve chicken! The wings are superb.
C. S.
Excellent fish and chips as well as scampi and chips. They were kind enough as well to give me one of their proper forks as I was ordering takeout so I could feed by 8 month old some mushy peas.
D. M.
Great bang for your buck as a scrappy traveler. Got fish and chips there to go and it was tasty after putting some vinegar on it. Wanted to sit and eat our food but they had closed the seating area for the night.
A.
If Good quality for fish and chips, like it should be. All very british... loved it. If your are looking for fish and chips the traditionell way - you won't be disappointed.
P. S.
The fish was a bit dry, when asked for bread and butter were told they had run out of butter. The staff were run off their feet so not enough staff to cope with a coach of customers.
I. M.
A place to enjoy original fish n chips. Can be crowded during lunch but worth waiting. Service is good and fast. Located few minutes walk from the house of parliament and big ben.
F. M.
Absolutely fantastic chippy in every way. Tasty food, reasonable prices, friendly service and and eat in option available for those who want a sit and natter. What more do you want? They even do chips and gravy!
J. M.
Great fish and chips!
The queue is out the door and round the corner on a Friday lunchtime. Tells you all you need to know about the quality of the food!
I. W.
Classic London chippy, with good quality fish and chips. Not very sophisticated dining, but that's not what a chippy is about! It's about good grub served in big satisfying portions.
S. G.
Very good, very fast service and great food. Was worth the trip. I will definitely go back.
C. W.
Probably the best fish and chips I have ever had.
C. c.
If you’re looking for a traditional British fish n chip shop then look no further, this place has it all! I had the fish n chips as well as battered sausage and it was heaven. Friendly service and seating available.
B. W.
Best Halibut & Chips in London and they do it at a fair price. Add a side of mushy peas and some malt vinegar and it's heaven.
F. M.
Absolutely fantastic chippy in every way. Tasty food, reasonable prices, friendly service and and eat in option available for those who want a sit and natter. What more do you want? They even do chips and gravy!
I. M.
A place to enjoy original fish n chips. Can be crowded during lunch but worth waiting. Service is good and fast. Located few minutes walk from the house of parliament and big ben.
L. M.
The best fish & chips, friendly service. A shame we cant eat in at the moment but just as delicious to take home too!
A. D.
Had a lovely cod and chips here. Very quick service and good price
R. F. I.
The fish here is pretty good, but the calamari here is OUTSTANDING. I would come here just for that. I've had better French Fries though so that was a small let down. It's a great place to visit if you're looking for a classic F&C meal!
M. S.
Sit down restaurant too. Thought it was only take-away but you can dine in. 2 Large portion Fish n Chips (1 cod, 1 haddock) and 2 soft drinks for 30 Pounds.
E. T.
We booked a table of 17 on a Friday 15 mins before arriving. They were so accommodating and sweet! The lovely waiter even bowed to us!! Would go back again :)
A. S.
Decent food and service, simple vibe and energy
A. C.
The staff are friendly, and the owner has the art of salting and vinegaring chips down to a tee. The chicken's probably nicer than the fish, and it's all good value for money to take-away.
S. S.
There are many kinds of fish&chips. Taste is good, but chips are not deep-fried. The whole condition is good and you can eat alone.
L. S.
Hi I was absolutely amazed by the Gentleman who gave a 1* rating to the Laughing Halibut Fish restaurant for not being allowed to bring subways food in and eat it at a table I have been going into the laughing halibut for 20yrs and not only is the food excellent and terrific value they are the friendliest Family who own and run the restaurant.
I cannot believe how someone can try and harm a Hard working Families living with such rubbish
C. C.
Great Portions! Though I'm not qualified to say what Fish and Chips should look like, I have to tell you that this is exactly what I was expecting it to be. I doubt you will be disappointed.
M. K.
Delicious and very reasonably priced fish and chips for the local area! Would definitely recommend for a cheap and filling meal!
A. H.
Great little place with seating in the back. Fish and chips is what we got -- hot and fresh. Service was quick and easy.
S. T.
The fish is hot and taste good.
K. B.
Awesome food, friendly staff... fish&chips looked great, my 1/2pounder was perfect.
I'd recommend this place for lunch or dinner anytime :)
N. A.
Finally, we got to taste the original English fish & chips. Make sure you visit it early lunch time as fish does seem to run out very quickly usually.
B. A.
Portions were massive food was amazing, thanks lads loved our dinners
M. Z.
Decent enough local traditional fish and chips, with friendly staff.
C. J.
I come here often to have lunch with my partner, it is the best traditional fish n'chips in town. The family that run the place are so warm and friendly I love coming here and will be going this week cannot wait, lucky me
C. C.
Fantastic family owned place. Best fried fish of my life, chips were great too! Their lemonade was top notch.
T. M.
The food was great and the service was quick!!
B. K.
Walked about 25 minutes to get here well worth the walk. Large cod fish and chips we also had the beef and onion pie very good .
N. R.
Good old fashioned fish and chips. Always fresh and very nice staff
M. v. D.
Best fish & chips in London. No beer in menu. I highly recommended for good meal.
H. V.
Food is good, service was bad. We went 50 minures before closing hours and I ordered something that was 15 minutes to cook according to the menu and the lady was not pleased with that. 30 minutes before closing time they start cleaning and putting chairs on the tables...
V. C.
Delicious Food! Perfect Place for a London Platter of Fish & Chips. Clean Restaurant and Friendly Staff. Parking was a little difficult though.
C. B.
Quality fish and proper chips, this affordable chippie is quick and tasty, the family who owns it are also very friendly and hospitable!
S. V. (.
As toursits we wanted to try Fish & Chips dish, and looked for the nearest place and got lucky to eat here. Decent prices for a great dish. Very good.
D. M.
To know it is to love it. Instant service, reliably good fish and chips and always the faint chance of seeing one of their famous customers.
M. M.
The best fish and chips in London. Friendly staff. Clean restaurant. Highly recommend
B. K.
Great fish and chips. Cod, calamari, onion rings and scallops are perfect old style. Chips are thick and very tasty!
D. E.
Food was great and staff was extra friendly
R. L.
Excellent fish and chips, you can't go wrong here, busy fresh, clean, quick good customer service.
S. J. S.
The first time I went to England I was sorely disappointed that after many attempts I wasn't able to find a good place for fish and chips. Well, I finally found it! Delicious meal
M. V.
Great little fish food place in heart of London. Decent prices for London. Fresh food and large portions
E. C.
Friendly staff in a casual dining restaurant. We enjoyed the fish and chips and good portions. About 10 minutes walk from Westminster Abbey.
S. M.
There's tastier fish and chips in London. But, if you're starving after your flight and train from Gatwick, this will definitely do.
A. R. V.
Really good food. Was very crowded when we arrived, but this might be usual. Friendly staff, the waiter immediately arranged us a table and offered food and drink.
Z. S. N.
I took my friend from the Czech Republic to the best fish and chips in London ... Super friendly staff .... Smile everywhere ... Retro environment ... I like it. I miss this street.
T. B.
One of the very few left in the country, over 36 years fish and chips shop in Victoria, friendly staff, on Friday you may go early as the queue goes well out on the street, highly recommended
A. A.
One of my favourite fish & chip restaurants. I highly recommend the place
B. B.
Lovely fish and chips. A friendly service provided. A very nice find
Y. G.
Big portions and tastes good. Neat decor and timely service. Not as pricy as other fish and chip restaurants in London.
W. “.
We ordered cod, rock with chips and coleslaw. They were one of the best fish and chips we ate in London!
V. L.
I rlly love it! It's a family place, the fish and chips is si good, and the service is very nice
S. B.
I missed a real fish and chips for so long, and this hit the spot perfectly.
Super fresh per order, nice customer service.
P. K.
Excellent fish and chips. The restaurant is small and doesn't look like much but the food is very good and the staff is very friendly
J.
Brought my parents here when they visited me from the states. The best fish and chips we have ever had! Will be back
B. W.
Best Halibut & Chips in London and they do it at a fair price. Add a side of mushy peas and some malt vinegar and it's heaven.
F. H.
UNREAL! My favorite fish n chip in all my years! Good on ya M8
C. A.
Great fish and chip shop. Very large menu. Beware lunchtime because the queue is very long, such is the popularity of this place.
L. (.
Ok place, frugal fish and chips restaurant, not the best looking interior but food is pretty good, quite large portion sizes, fair prices.
L. M.
Lovely fish and chips
K. G.
Excellent fish and chips. Not common to find such tasty eats so close to the tourist-beaten path. A welcome exception!
R. S.
Very friendly and great fish & chips, always fresh
D. B.
Menu is really nice. Has fried chicken as well as nice English fish and chips. Everyone was happy there and service was good.
M. v. L.
Had a great fish, it was not expensive.
M. R.
Great place, great food, very nice owner 🎉 Very much recommended
D. M.
A very nice meal, the fish and chips were delicious, the batter so light. Well recommended.
J. L.
Great place to buy fish and chips on the go. Gets busy when the local students come out but overall nice.
O. S.
Compared to other chippies in London, it's alright. Compared to chips you get at a coast, they are not great.
More expensive than you should be paying for fish and chips but that's just London prices.
The guys behind the counter could do with cracking a smile once in a while.
A. W.
Best fish & chips in years.
C. T.
Was ok. Not great. Quite a lot of bones in the fish and the chips were average at best. Taste of the fish was good though
K.
Lovely people..lovely food..best fish shop locally.. give it a try.. you wont be disappointed🤗
M. P.
Had the best fish and chips ever! First time in London and had the traditional fish and chips.
G. B.
Nicely cooked haddock & chips served quickly. I think it only needs the option of real vinegar to uplift to 5 stars.
A. V.
The fish was perfect and the staff very nice and accomodating.
A lot of locals attending, which is a good sign at any restaurant.
A. F.
Been here countless times for over 20 years being a local - it's always good always friendly. An institution of the area.
J. R.
It's very good...extremely fresh and hot. Just a little bit overpriced for my liking. Chips shops on corners of roads are just as good.
N. S.
Amazing chips and gravy!
D.
Nice restaurant, a very big portion of fish&chips (almost for 2 people) to go only for 8,50£
A.
The chips are very tasty 😋 I'm gonna return here
M. H.
Great food with large portions and friendly srrvice. If eating in be aware that it is quite cramped and gets very busy at peak times.

Great fish and chips just be warned that they can get very busy on Friday lunch times so go early!
S. R.
A really good chippie as a vegetarian I thought the menu very acceptable if a bit limited. Chips were superb.
T. M.
I honestly had high expectations and was disappointed. Great little shop but not worth the walk. Only would go again if I were in the area which probably wouldn’t be if I was a tourist.
R. P.
A great old style fish and chip restaurant serving the best fish and chips in London. Probably. A customer for over 25yrs

J. B.
Best fish and chips in London, fish and massive and chips were perfect. Friendly staff, clean restaurant.
L. N.
Weird sort of place. It sells chips, nothing odd about that , yet it seems to have a weird yellow tint to it. I don't know, it could be something with the lights, but it peeved me anyhow. Other than that it's pretty standard
S. J.
Decent fish and chips spot. Fish was well seasoned and nice and crispy.
B. F.
Great fish and chips. Reasonable prices as well (for London).
Z. M.
Brilliant chip shop! Burgers a lovely too and an added bonus is that they are halal 5 stars form me !

⭐️⭐️⭐️: Only Go If Someone Else Made The Plans
The fish was decent but the chips were bland and chewy
N. L.
fish and chips were good. very casual place. but charging for ketchup to go? come on.
T.
Could have been better for the price. Food wasn't entirely bad but it feels like they rely on filling your stomach with fries, the hamburgers felt underwhelming...
N. A.
Great place to have real fish and chips, large portions of the classic dish.
L. M.
Great find while on a 8 hour layover in London! Delicious fish and chips!!
A. R.
O.k. chippy, decent. Not top of the class but not at the lower end either. Pretty busy given location and proximity to nearby offices.
M.
Food tasted good but I was dear for the portion size and there was a bone in my fish. I won’t be returning.
T. D.
My personal must-visit for more than decade since recommended by a Bobbie outside New Scotland Yard. I was not disappointed last week with the food or the conversation.
T. M.
