Delicious food, attentive staff and a pleasure to visit on a Sunday afternoon. Booking ahead advised for weekends. The desserts were the best I've had in a long while!

Best gastro pub I have eaten in for a while. I was not going to write this review after the first time I ate there as I wanted to keep this gem to myself. But having been utterly treated to another amazing Sunday Roast I thought I should share the love- they deserve to be complimented. The chefs there are really showing off...and they can!! I have worked in the restaurant business myself for many years and know how hard it is to pull off top class food- given the vagaries of the weather and customer demand. But this place smashes it. I ate there as a table of ten- with another table for the kids. I had food envy for many of the dishes but to name a few the Tuna Tacos are beautifully balanced- the pork belly blends fat and meat perfectly- and each of the vegetables were perfectly done...and the Hep Cat lager and Organic House wine are both great. Kids had a big selection too from Pizza to mini roasts. The staff were very happy and welcoming and seemed to like working there- we felt very looked after and treated. So at risk of not getting a table next time...I will share their love and I highly recommend this place. I Loved it and woke up on Monday not wincing at the bill...it was certainly all worth it!!

So pleased we went to the Paxton for our first ever time Shocked at how good the prices were on both food and drink! The tuna taco had proper slabs of tuna steak and the crab cakes actually tasted like crab rather than fried batter! Nice atmosphere with people simply enjoying themselves. Not too drafty and had heaters around to help guests. We will be going back

Pros: The Paxton offers a warm and stylish welcome to a mixed crowd from all walks of life. Tasty Sunday roast with lots of choice. Good kids menu with proper food. Huge Yorkshire puddings. Reasonably priced as posh pub lunches go, a treat for all the family. Welcoming environment, kid and dog friendly. Large garden with covered area and heaters, although as it was 12c and drizzly we sat inside. Very well situated for parks/walks. Tables are generously spaced - it's a large building, unlike some of the restaurants on the nearby Triangle where they've tried to fit in to too small a space. Nice decor and overall high standards.. more comfortable and less flashy than nearby Dulwich Wood House. Cons: Slowish service, I think they were just a bit understaffed for a much busier than usual day (mother's day) and may have had team members down with covid so can't be too harsh on that. Our waitress was hard working and doing her best, but staff seemed a bit overloaded. Some small details.. applesauce served in throwaway plastic pots gave it a sense of "got it out of a jar". At £16/head for mains, fresh made doesn't seem unreasonable but they're hardly the only place doing that. Portions fair sized but again could be bigger - although if you went for 3 courses you'd definitely be leaving v full. Acoustics - hard, reflective surfaces create an environment that's on the loud side, but that's an issue almost everywhere, ask Jay Rayner.

Cracking Victorian pub with a great selection of beers and some top-notch grub (the falafel was delicious). Home to one of the biggest and best beer gardens in South London, too. The staff are super friendly and welcoming - particularly the lovely Sushmita who gave us brilliant table service all evening. Get yourself down there!

We went to the Paxton for both the semi and the final of the euros. The atmosphere was electric both evenings. During the semi, the service was excellent, with the staff very attentive and drinks coming swiftly. It was a little slower during the final which is understandable - the place was heaving. Maddy was looking after our section during the final and she was excellent. We had food during the final and as always, it was excellent. Will be returning!

Nice, spacious pub and quirky food menu, lots of choice. Service needs improvement though; was treated rudely by the doorman as I was arriving, and was asked 5 times about 'needing to leave' at 10pm. Completely understand the curfew, but we were waiting for a bill - there are ways of asking politely which staff weren't doing. We also had to query the bill, as the offer of 2-for-1 cocktails had not originally been honoured. It took quite a while for drinks to arrive too - appreciate it was busy, but something to work on. Definitely has the potential to be a great pub.

A bit disappointed. First time ever in the pub last weekend and great first impressions. We booked a table for a Sunday roast during the working week and turned up at our booked time today in the eve. We were told there were only 2 options for roast left, we then tried to order something else and we couldn't because only roasts were being served/ on the menu. We were told that due to the lockdown announcement, they had received a surge in bookings. Ok, but they didn't have enough food for all the bookings, even though we booked for a Sunday roast? We ended up leaving and went to another pub which had a full menu. The staff despite that were very friendly and apologetic.

I had lunch with my daughter, four-year old and 4 week-old granddaughters. We love the space in the beer garden, the gated off slide for children is a great idea. We both had the burgers which were delicious. Most impressed by the staff... a music track came on with a few lyrics not quite suitable for children to hear, I think I went 'ohh' unintentionally because within seconds the music was changed entirely. Now that's what I call great customer service, and ensures a revisit soon.

The Paxton has just recently been refurbished and looks very good. The choice of drinks and food are very good. Sunday roast is good but go early as can get very busy. The beer garden is very nice to use and will be great again in the summer. Has a good atmosphere and the locals are a friendly bunch. Also shows sport now.

I was invited to this place by my Auntie and my mother as the had thoroughly enjoyed the experience. They booked what was called a reggae roast. The music was on point and tunes were popping. The atmosphere was also lovely so I have definitely logged the Paxton as a possible chill out spot for my impromptu ventures. My only concern was the roast......it was not very good so I ordered something else off the menu which was mmmmm ok. Look! If having a meal was my main agenda then no I wouldn't necessarily come here, but for drinks and a nice chilled time with your chosen company then yup, it's a win.

Disabled access & disabled toilet great for me, only it had run out of soap & tissue but sure that could be easily rectified with a check every couple of hours by staff where they initial on check board on door. I love love this place. I find the staff friendly slightly laid back but that my prefrence with service. My family and I have been coming here for years especially for the amazing roast dinners!! So sad to come here today and see the chain is letting it fall into disrepair. Roof is leaking and kitchens been closed causing them to loose over 150 bookings! Makes me so angry! The staff are so passionate and eager to improve the place but their wings have been clipped! This is so much more than a pub in my opinion its a community hall and the community should come together and demand Greenking to open the kitchen again!!!

I entered a competition a few weeks ago to win a steak dinner for two and claimed my prize last night. The meal was really delicious with really generous portions. I last ate at the pub around Christmastime and I thought the food last night was much better, so we'll definitely be back more in the future. The food was exceptional. My wife and I aren't vegetarians, though Paxton had such tempting veggie options we went all in. And by all in, we got one of their veggie burgers, their homemade hummus, their courgette fritters and their halloumi pastries. All of it was delicious and more than filling. I especially loved the fritters and the burger which was nite to know was all homemade. The cozy inside was great too and their beer options was more than plentiful. For those of us wanting a great pub experience, or a vegetarian experience, The Paxton is well worth the visit.

This place is local to me, so I've been there quite a few times. The food is pretty decent, not out of this world but decent, the service can be hit and miss , but mostly it's okay and they usually have a pretty varied menu, they also have a nice beer garden( weather permitting) and they cater for infant's and young children, so you can bring the family for a nice Sunday lunch. So all in all I would recommend it.

Fine "post great exhibition" ambience, the curtains are very appreciated. Continual "intelligent drum and bass" style music during our visit marred perfection because; though good tunes were played, it may benefit conversation to knock the volume back a trifle (perhaps all the way back IMHO) Staff were professional and the kitchen delivered the goods to grace any table.

A great pub but is becoming overrun with children and they do not like it if you make noise, so if you want a rowdy night out then this is not for you, they serve good drinks and most of the staff are great some quite grumpy but the food is really good, large garden for sunny days and big screen for the sports
