Reviews of The River Restaurant by Gordon Ramsay

Dinner for one - perfect setting. Paired my courses with some appropriately delicious wines. The setting was iconic London and style. The food, albeit tiny portions was flavoursome. The staff were attentive and kind. A peaceful calm delightful experience.

Dinner for eight in the private suite. Waited on by Ronald . What a super nice chap. Couldn't do enough . Food very good . Tried the fish burger ... Delicious. Lovely evening with Robert Tiago and Chip.

Excellent, unpretentious gourmet seafood. Oysters were fresh and delicious and I highly recommend the gin-cured salmon and fish burger. Sticky toffee pudding at the end was amazing, warm and served with extra sauce. Special thanks to Dennis at the bar who catered for us and helped pick out some fantastic oysters!

My wife and I had lunch from the set menu as part of our honeymoon weekend in London.
The staff members with friendly and attentive But what really stood out about this place was the food.
We both started with the celeriac soup, had a main course of cod and finished with the sticky toffee pudding. All dishes were full of flavour and of a good portion size for fine dining.
I would recommend going for a visit when you are next in town.

Me and my partner went to the River Restaurant for a meal together. We were seated in a quiet space by the window, it felt as though the whole restaurant was ours!
The service was lovely, the wine I was recommended was perfect and exactly what I asked for.
However the food was something else!!! Fresh ingredients, amazing flavours! I can't say a bad word about anything we were served, I had the Hake which I throughly enjoyed as well as the scallop dish. Every little detail in all the dishes were divine it is apparent the chefs in the kitchen have a lot of talent. Even the bread is homemade!! With out a doubt I will definitely will be coming back asap!

Went there for my anniversary, restaurant was really nice, food was tasty and the staff were great. Would recommend this restaurant for anyone.

Fantastic. Food was incredible. We were enjoying Gordon’s fish restaurant as a Christmas treat for my mum.
Menu had a selection of traditional dishes but was spiced up with some interesting creations too.
Ambiance was warm but luxurious.
The location. The Savoy River room never ceases to impress. The Savoy hotel is exquisite. I have had the pleasure of visiting many times and it blows my mind every time.
The team looking after us were flawless. We were looked after and made to feel very special
A must.
We will be back
Thanks

Scottish Oysters one of the best you can find in London, so fresh, you even will be able to smell a sea from the shell!

The staff were super friendly, fun and attentive. We were an hour early but were seated at the bar where we could have a drink and watch the oysters being prepared. The banter there was great. Every member of staff had their own quality and were knowledgeable. Some were more vocal than others 😂. I will let you guess who. The food was delicious. My prawn cocktail popped with flavour and the monkfish curry too. My only complaint being that the monkfish was delivered cold. I was advised that it is served at 45 degrees but it was colder than that when it reached the table. Teped at most and my Mums too. This was mentioned but I was advised this is how it is served. We still ate it all. My Mum had the crab flan to start. She said it was the best she had ever tasted although she did find some shell. Again this was mentioned and we were advised this can happen due to the way it is prepared. On the whole though the food delicious and service cracking. We will return. We were gutted that we missed Gordon by an hour. I was hoping for a Happy Birthday for my Mum. Thanks for a fun time guys. Very close to 5 stars. I am sure our next visit will be. 🎂🎉🍾
Ps the seats are a little low. Especially when eating from the beautiful raised prawn cocktail bowl. I was provided with a cushion. 5ft 2 😂

Having previously been to Gordon Ramsey in Chelsea Road , Savoy Grill and also to Petrus a few times we decided to celebrate an anniversary at The River Restaurant at the Savoy. Although the venue was as, you would expect was luxurious and the staff very attentive and helpful the food itself was a bit of a letdown. The Prawn Caesar Salad was nothing out of the ordinary and although my wife’s lobster was nice we thought it was very poorly presented. My wife then had the Cider Battered fish and a portion of chips I had the Tandoori monkfish. Neither of these dishes were exceptional and the chips in particular over salted. Overall the food was no better than we could have eaten at a local restaurant at least half the price. No way was it on a par with the other Gordon Ramsey venues we have eaten at.
In normal circumstances my wife would have her fish back but because of the venue and the fact she did not want to spoil the event choose not to. We did however advise the staff of our misgivings over the quality of the meal and were offered complimentary coffee (which we declined). Also if you are going to have a dress code maybe you should impose it – or are baseball caps, shorts and trainers all on show now acceptable as “ Smart casual”. I checked before we came and dressed accordingly. I need not have bothered! Overall we found a very disappointing experience.

I went for the opening night... this restaurant delivers everything you expect from Gordon Ramsay... Great food and ambiance... the food was amazing especially dessert.

Service was excellent and the food amazing, best fish burger my wife had ever tasted. Would have given 5 Stars but the fries were terrible. Hard, greasy and came with lots of scrapes from the bottom of the fryer. I've had better fries at KFC. Can't believe Chef Ramsay allows this, especially for £7.50!

Expectations were high for this first family visit. It’s a shame only a three star review . The venue was decorated superbly , the staff were superb, helpful , friendly snd attentive. The price was as expected and reasonable . Cocktails were good and came up quickly , bread was fresh . The food though less than the expected culinary delight . This is a fish restaurant predominantly which we expected . I had fresh oysters which were superb . My wife’s prawn cocktail was overly spicy. For her . I think someone had been heavy on the Tabasco, after I tried it I was even surprised by the heat . But the disappointment was the grilled special fish for two . Sone really silly mistakes , overcooked fish, looked like fillets but was full of bones and in end I had to take it off the bone , very small whole fish , it was sharing dish so we had cut the fish in half . No one said it was served in this way on the bone. Sauce was under seasoned my daughters hollandaise on the steak thick and congealed. The clams & mussels were dry . One of the prawns was a bit spongey. So left it . The deserts were ok my wife had the sticky toffee pudding that was allegedly a signature dish was a bit dry as well. The cheese was ok but nothing fancy . Served with a pleasant sauce though . Finally not the restaurants fault but for ten minutes we listened to the table next yo us conduct a telephone call on speakerphone. It was loud. And intrusive. No one approached them but the staff turned up the music . Personally I think someone should have asked them to take it off speakerphone or perhaps the the call in the lobby .As it was so loud.
We did not complain as we were enjoying family time and all the staff were lovely .
The food needs work for the premium price and the Gordon Ramsey name above the door . I would still recommend it as a venue , perhaps the chef was having an off day , so would not rush back for the food .

had a lovely experience at the river restaurant last night. loved the decor, staff were amazing and very helpful, their service was fab too.
food was lovely and we enjoyed it very much.
only small negative was the whole lobster was really small....if this is the size of them all then maybe serve it with something.
would definitely go back though x

Amazing food and equally impressive surroundings, Having a main and desert added of course with a cocktail to wash it down. Great service from Bonnie, Who looked after us throughout our visit. Thank you

Found that this place would have opened by the time our weekend to visit London came around so couldn't wait to book a table. To walk through the doors of such an amazing and have all the Hotel staff be so nice is such a joy. Getting to the River Restaurant was easy and from the moment we walked through the Restaurant door we were made to feel so welcome. We were seated at our table and all the wait staff were fabulous. An extra shout out to the young man who came to explain about the Oysters and Caviar and not just to sell them but came back twice after to make sure all was ok. My Daughter and I loved it from start to finish, many thanks for a wonderful experience.

My sister had a heartbreaking experience dining at your restaurant. She came from The Netherlands alone to visit a medical expert. I pushed her to do it because I have the same medical condition and my treatment in The Netherlands failed with devastating consequences and I did not want her to make the same mistake. She decided to make the best out of the trip and also make a little holiday of it. She decided to treat herself to a luxury dinner at the savoy. Her skin tone is slightly darker than mine, and I have often experienced first hand how racism and bias still run deep in society when I am with her. When she came back from her visit she told me how she was welcomed at the Savoy. After greeting her she overheard the waitress talking "what if she runs without paying", while the other replied "we have her contact details". Can you imagine how devastating that is to hear? People judging you by your appearance and the colour of your skin, while you are there for a good experience and want to pay honest money. I asked her if she'd given the feedback and she did not want to. She told me that she experiences this too many times to spend energy on it. But as her big sister, who encouraged her to go on this trip, I cannot let it go. So herewith I am sharing the feedback on her behalf and I genuinely hope you train your staff better. It can't be the intent to break hearts and destroy self esteem while visiting your restaurant? She visited your restaurant on jan 12th.

we visited for lunch on the 3rd December for our aunts 80th birthday.we mentioned this on arrival so they was aware hoping she would at least get a response from staff but nothing came.as you imagine she was disappointed.we was shoved in a corner table near the window which you could not really see out of as they were rather dirty.the cutlery was just placed on the table not on napkins not that hygienic. considering the prices the food was ok. also there was no atmosphere in there unlike the afternoon tea service which was buzzing. the place needed livening up.i commented how lovely the salt and pepper pots were and later during service the waiter said i best take these before they disappear , at the savoy you dont expect that type of comment.very disappointed.

Well what can one say.....Food was amazing we had Cavier to start followed by Curried monk fish and John Dory....unbelievable thought I had gone to heaven.
The staff were knowledgeable friendly first class service. Special mention regarding the Senior Sous chef Dennis Easton went out of his way to entertain and chat to us...a truly memorable experience

Had dinner here yesterday - lovely restaurant- staff were lovely especially the lady who looked after us - starters were really nice Prawn Cocktail & Smoked Salmon mains were poor - I’d lobster it was tiny if they can’t get decent sized lobsters they shouldn’t serve them - my wife had fish pie which was nice enough but a lot more mashed potatoes than fish - we’d a side of broccoli which was cold and a side of lukewarm chips which were replaced- knickerbocker glory for sweet was very good and they brought out a wee chocolate birthday cake for my upcoming birthday which was a nice touch - all in all a good dining experience with great staff some good food but disappointing main courses - don’t think we’d go back

Food took too long, wasn't worth the time and too expensive for the flavor or size of the dish.
The location is beautiful tho
