Reviews of Viet Garden
D. T.
Great Vietnamese food from a family run business. It's very good value too. I'll strongly recommend the char-grilled pork with vermicelli. The space was quiet, clean and comfortable. We enjoyed the dinner a lot.
S. H.
Very authentic Vietnamese restaurant. Not full of frills but the food was really good. Good range of vegetarian options as well. Decent value too.
C. c.
There is an immediate warm and inviting aura as you walk in and the smell of the food is so good. The staff are very friendly and the food was delicious!! We really enjoyed our evening here!
J. T.
Not bad if you want pho nearby, but there are better options if u go a bit further
J. S.
Food great as always.
I have being going here for 20 years and so pleased I found it all those years ago.
Every friend or work colleague I have taken there has also been impressed.
S. S.
The special Bun Hue is the best pho, haven’t found a better restaurant
K. P.
Best bun hue soup stock, and I have had many. Wished I had space to sup the whole bowl. My companion very much enjoyed her pork and vermicelli noodles. You get a lot of meat for each dish. The salt and pepper squid is a must.
Very nice ambience and decor.
Worth the 40 minutes drive. Great service too!
J. B.
Absolutely delicious. I had bun bo hue and the broth was rich and tasty, the beef was tender and yummy, veggies were fresh, terrific! One of the best meal I had outside of Vietnam. Staff was also very nice, (looks like a family ran business) and the place is quite nice, very cosy and relaxing.
Very decent price as well (£14 for a main and a beer - including service charge) and the portion was big! (But it was so moreish I had no problem finishing it all)
K. P.
Super range of dishes for vegetarians. I had the curry with tofu and it was delicious - I definitely over ate! Service great and lovely chilled vibe with nice space between tables.
Highly recommend and good value for money!
D. B.
The food is always consistent. Definitely value for money. Must try the fried fish with ginger although to be honest none of the dishes have disappointed me yet.
D. M.
Top quality Vietnamese for a great price. Would definitely recommend!
V. J.
Quiet, cosy, romantic. Conveniently close to the hustle of upper street yet perfect if you actually want to have a conversation. Food was tasty and reasonably-priced. Favourites - salt and pepper crispy aubergine, chicken and beef curries
M. G.
Had great food here - portion sizes are big, which was perfect for a miserable day! Homemade lemonade was lovely and refreshing.
D. G.
We came here with a big group of friends so we tried more than 10 different things from the menu. Everything was so delicious! Being a Vietnamese I’m just so happy the food is authentic, just like how it tastes back home. Haven’t had Bun Bo Hue anywhere else in London. Was really tasty! Portions are generous and everything feels home made, fresh. The restaurant is cozy and elegant in a quiet area, just a short walk from Highbury & Islington. This makes it different from the busy, noisy Vietnamese restaurants in other part of London. The owners are really warm and welcoming. I can’t recommend enough!
S. W.
Delicious Vietnamese food. From the lunch menu: salt and pepper crispy tofu and aubergine then lemongrass tofu with vermicelli noodles. Fresh and delicious! Staff were friendly and it's a lovely bright and airy restaurant whilst being homely with cushions and plants. We will be back!
E. T.
Deliciously made traditional Vietnamese food. Nice atmosphere and quick service.
A. M.
The food was absolutely fantastic. The staff were very kind and accommodating and I will definitely be ordering from them again.
S. Z.
Reliable, tasty, great value and friendly Vietnamese local. Love the crispy salt and pepper aubergine; the Banh Xeo (Vietnamese pancake); Pho; Mi Vit (Roast Duck noodle soup); Bun Thit Nuong (vermicelli salad with delicious sizzling marinated grilled pork) and Bun Cha Gio (vermicelli salad with spring rolls). Highly recommended!
S. T.
Delicious Vietnamese cuisine! Highly recommended.
If you're looking for comfort food, try one of the soups. The pho is standard Viet fare and always a good choice Try the garlic pho for more flavour. Go for the Hu Tieu if you want to try something different. Great for cold weather!
For the vermicelli dishes, they serve the protein on a hot plate. Really thoughtful way to keep the protein warm. Great for summer!
For something more unique, go for the banh xeo (see photo). Cut into bitesize, wrap in lettuce leaf, dip in the fish sauce, enjoy! It's listed under appetizer but it can be a main.
S. L.
Very good!! Atmosphere, kind staff and awesome food 👍👍👍
G. P.
Amazing food and friendly staff.
In our opinion the best Vietnamese of London
G. H.
This is the 1st place we went too when we moved to this area (especially having no cooker). We now like going there regularly and also taking our friends there. Food is great and the owners are really friendly and helpful. Great place
C. H.
Delicious food and warm atmosphere. One of my favourite restaurants in London!
B. S.
I did not like it and my guest nearly broke a tooth on their meal… bones? Maybe.
S. C.
Beef pho was especially delicious, easily best I've had to date in the neighborhood.
E. M.
Amazing! Everything is so delicious and also so healthy!! Will be back definitely 🤩🤩🤩
D. O.
We had our farewell dinner there and we were greeted by Tony, we enjoyed the best service and had the chance to try, in my opinion, the best traditional Vietnamese food I have ever tried ever! I will strongly recommend and will definitely come back whenever I'm back to London. Thank you
V. H.
We love this place and feel lucky it's local to us. Delighted it's back open for takeaway! Best salt and pepper squid we've ever had and the Mi Vit is delicious. But extensive menu and lots of options!
A. O.
Staff very friendly and food was quite good. Prices were reasonable. Try the Cha CA la vong it's the best dish!
K. G.
Delicious food, great staff, a clean cosy yet spacious place (compared to most other inexpensive Asian places).
W. C. S.
Viet Garden is a lovely little restaurant close to Angel station. We'd always wanted to try Vietnamese food beyond just pho, and enjoyed everything we had here. I think my favourite was the stewed pork with its deep, rich flavourful gravy, redolent with aromatics. To be honest, everything that we tried was really good.
We did of course also try the pho, and went with the Ha Noi version with flash fried beef. It had a wonderfully fragrant broth, and was immensely satisfying.
Friendly staff, welcoming ambience and fantastic, authentic food at reasonable prices - what more could you ask for? It also has a very interesting cocktail menu, which unfortunately we didn't try as we were there too early in the evening, but definitely earmarked for a return visit in the near future!
Z. H.
Delicious duck goi duck salad - crunchy, spicy and refreshing. Other dishes worth ordering: Grilled bbq pork noodles and tofu pho noodle. Worth supporting this friendly family restaurant.
R. C.
Great food, the staff is really nice and it's very quiet during the week, just awesome
R. L.
So tasty! Love the Vietnamese pancake starter, dishes are spicy, not dull like some places, and the custom cocktail drinks are great. All around a great value, and super tasty meal. Been a few times and always consistent.
S. W.
Lovely staff, delicious food, great value
E. B.
Nice atmosphere inside. Veggie dishes are very tasty. Will defo be coming back
M.
Great food and atmosphere and really friendly staff
K. P.
Came to the restaurant with a group of 14. Despite the numbers the staff were friendly and helpful to deal with. The food was excellent quality, fresh and tasty. Portion sizes were large. Would happily eat here again, highly recommended.
N.
Best vietnamese food in London!
T. S.
Excellent food. Started with rolls and spare ribs and then vermicelli and Singapore noodles. Portions are good size and the staff are friendly. A gem of a place.
A. D.
The staff and atmosphere are great. The letdown is the food... Rehydrated noodles (not fresh), MSG, huge amounts of sugar to cover up the lack of depth in taste, and I have a suspicion that they use powdered stock for their pho broth.
L. R.
I am from Canada and I have Pho once a week. I have also been all over Vietnam so I know good Pho. I've recently moved to Scotland- and haven't had pho in six months! This place was perfect! I normally order rare beef and had to ask them for this and I think it was the second one on the pho list. The beef wasn't rare but it was cooked enough to not be tough once added to the soup. Great portion size as well. I also tried the appetiser-fried tofu which was about a 6/10. We were the first ones in today and when we walked past it three hours later it was jam packed!! For good reason! Go here! The family that run it are so great.
J. H.
Literally love this place, wonderful funny staff who are proud of their food and just want you to come back. The food is amazing, probably the best vietnamese in London. Definitely a must go, considering you can take your own booze and it's very reasonably priced.
L. C.
Very very good, we got the crispy squid as a starter. Then fried chicken with lemon grass and chilli, the fried sizzling platter of Pangasus, and the sizzling duck with the special rice. Really tasty, nice portion and rather cheap for the quality/quantity (20£\pers. With a drink).
Nice staff and great ambiance!
l.
Great value for money vietnamese food. Huge variety of dishes for either stay in or take away. Food is tasty, does not feel stale or that has been sitting aside. Staff is really helpful. Probably one of the best around Islington / Angel.
D.
Absolutely love this place! Have been coming here for almost 5 years, the food is really tasty and full of flavor, with soups the particular favorite. Family run with friendly and unpretencious staff and they've just had a makeover inside so looks much smarter too.
F. T.
I went here last night with a couple of friends after talking with our friend who runs The Foxglove next door. We entered and were warmly greeted. We ordered the spring rolls, salt and pepper chicken wings, hot and spicy chicken wings and duck pancakes for starters. The food came hot and freshly cooked, they even asked us if we wanted more pancakes for the duck. For our mains we shared the special bún huê (spicy noodle soup) and bún thįt nuóng (vermicelli noodles and sizzling pork). Food was amazing! Generous portions and it was like it was home made food, very comforting soup and tasty morsels of meat. Our waitress was quiet but friendly and very attentive. Thank you for an enjoyable meal.
T. L.
Favorite Vietnamese spot in London, where I would take family in town who are craving Vietnamese food. Great variety of food options and also a full bar.
S. H.
It’s OK. Nothing special. The Pho is good, but venturing outside of that category seems to be too much of a culinary burden for this otherwise well-serviced bar/restaurant.
I had the Pork Kho which was singularly uninteresting and sadly did not really come as advertised (“caramelized pork” is in fact boiled in some kind of broth, thereby losing all crispy sweetness). A soggy broccoli dish and seemingly prawn-free prawn toast did little to counteract my porcine disappointment.
I wouldn’t say no to YOU going, but I won’t be meeting you there.
J. R.
Viet Garden is an excellent family-run local restaurant producing tasty, well-presented and interesting food at reasonable prices. The staff are friendly and helpful, and the ambience is much improved after a refurbishment about a year ago.
b. m.
Quick service. Nice staff. I went there on Saturday before going out with some friends. Everyone enjoyed it. Not too pricey. I will definitely come back there. You must have the pho
J. P.
Great Vietnamese food - especially love the spicy salt and pepper aubergine starter and bun xa
E. K.
Wonderful food at reasonable prices!
Staff are very friendly and they even cater very well to vegetarians/vegans - You can get a Tofu Pho with Vegan stock! Delicious would reccomend.
S.
Food was great and service was fantastic! The male waiter was very attentive despite it being busy. He ensured we had enough water and napkins without having to ask.
R. M.
Viet Garden is a good Vietnamese tucked away, serving tasty portions of good Vietnamese food.
We had a starter which was big enough for 2 (very tasty peppered soft-shelled crab) and
beef and prawn noodles and a couple of beers and for a very reasonable 17 ish pounds each we were well fed and satisfied.
If I am every stuck for a choice in Angel, i'd definitely pop back..
M. C.
Ordered hot and spicy wings, pho beef noodle soup and chicken with mixed veg via uber eats. Despite the wings not being spicy as advertised they were very tasty. I ordered the pho beef noodle soup due to great reviews - however it did not come in a soup? I was quite confused as it was dry noodles and beef in a container with zero sauce/liquid. Thankfully the chicken and mixed veg had a sauce which I mixed with the pho noodles, else it would have been very dry!
J. M.
Super tasty bún. Homemade spring rolls were delicious. Family run and very friendly.. Highly recommend. Oh and excellent value too
T. F. G.
Really delicious food! The service is quick and efficient, the food lovely and really authentic Vietnamese too! Thanks and see you guys soon!

We have been coming to this family run restaurant for almost 12 years. We still love it. The food is fresh and tasty and the staff lovely.
T.
Amazing starters, especially those with prawns and the bánh xèo!! I expected a little more from the Phos, but they were ok anyways.
P. Z.
Loved their spinach with garlic and specially Oven Baked Mackerel in Banana Leaf which is great along with steamed rice.
Service is fine and quite quick serving.
C. H.

(Translated) Good atmosphere. Comfortable and pleasant. The first time we went, the service was wonderful, but the second time the woman who attended us was not being very friendly. He looked like he was upset as if we had done something wrong. Maybe because we asked for rice to share or because we asked her to change the dishes. I just think that the company has to understand that the preference is always the customer. We asked to change the dishes because we had asked for a starter and used a sauce we didn't want to mix with the food we ordered for the main course, as simple as that. And if we only asked for a portion of rice to share, it was enough for both of us. We are not obliged to order two servings of rice, since one is enough. In the most, I recommend. Fair and affordable prices and pleasant atmosphere.

Bom ambiente.
