Tried Chips at No.8 for the first time and I have to say it was one of the best chippy's we've had! Crispy batter and the fish was so succulent and fresh, the battered sausage and chips were a winner too. There was a big queue outside which was a good sign. Look forward to ordering from here again.

Fabulous cod & chips! Really fresh meaty fish. Fat yummy chips. Not too oily. They are obviously very popular. There was quite a queue when we got there, but they tried to be as efficient as possible. So be prepared for a bit of a wait.

Fresh, vibrant and modern chippy with a small but perfectly formed menu and thumping tunes whilst you wait. Had to try the pea scallop but didn’t brave the battered crème egg! Everything was great. Would visit again!

Deserves to get the accolades for being a great chippy. Freshly cooked fish and the chips were lovely. I had the small fish and chips which came with a small pot of peas..more than adequate. Partner had Haddock and chips and couldn't quite finish it! It's not often that I have fish and chips as it tends to 'repeat' on me. Big surprise this didn't 🤗 will definitely go again even though it's a half hour drive from me.

Brilliant chippy. Chips cooked to perfection, crispy outside and fluffy inside. Fish was cooked to the same high standard, with crispy batter and beautiful fresh cod fillet. The fish was packed separately in a cardboard box which prevented it from getting soggy which happens when packed on top of chips. All packed up in recyclable materials so a win win experience all round. Food was also reasonably priced. Looking forward to another visit when I'm next in the area.

Thought I'd try here due to the recent award. I was in Manchester but arrived at the official closing time 'though this didn't phase them or indeed, others after me. Service was very good and the clean shop had a modern rustic feel which I love. It lived up to it's reputation with some of the very best fish, chips and peas I've ever tasted cooked in dripping. If I lived nearby I would be a frequent visitor.

Just had a takeaway from here. It was excellent. Big tasty battered cod, lovely chips, mushy peas & a curry sauce. Highly recommended. We never usually have fish & chips takeaway as I always do my own, but this was gorgeous. No wonder it is in the top 50 for the UK.

Just had 2 cod and chips, a sausage and 2 gravies, food was great, not cheap but as I work with food myself you can tell it's good quality fish, great batter... Two good looking girls 😉 at counter, polite and friendly. Would recommend and definitely will see me again.

We go to this chippy whenever we're at one of our daughters' houses as it isn't too far from them and not only cook superb Chips etc they also do some gluten free options, which one of our daughter needs. There is normally a queue and everything is cooked fresh. I particularly like the rag pudding, but the fish, pies etc are all excellent. You can watch everything being got ready and the staff are friendly and work hard so that you don't have to wait too long.

We really REALLY enjoyed our trip to Chips @ No 8. I visited for the first time with my family from Hong Kong and expected it to only be a greasy takeaway. We were pleasantly surprised to find a modern, clean shop with a couple of tables and stools to sit at providing the option to dine in - we didn't have to eat our chips in the car like we planned!:D They are deserving of every accolade they have won because the chips are so flavourful and the batter on the fish was fresh, super tasty, and cooked perfectly. Service was friendly and professional despite the crowd of people waiting for their orders to take away. They brought our meals to our table with a lovely smile and we were super impressed by the level of wonderfulness that we experienced on our trip. As a local, I will definitely be taking all my friends. My Hong Kong visitors are leaving the UK with a vivid and wonderful chippy tea that I think represents high quality, delicious English fare on an international scale.

Tried this place tonight after hearing really good reviews about it. We had fish, chips and peas, chip barm, sausage and a curry sauce. They were busy but we didn't have to wait too long for our order. The staff were friendly and the place was clean. Signage is very clear. It was reasonably priced too. Just over 15 quid for the two of us. The food itself was a bit of a let down. The chips were ok, not the best we've had but not the worst. The fish was spoiled by the lemon wedge that we didn't know was in the box. The batter was crispy and light. Just a shame about the lemon. Weirdly, the curry sauce tasted lemony too and was very watery. The sausage was one of the better chippy sausages we've tried. Verdict: Average. It wouldn't be our first choice if we were to get a local chippy again. Shame really.

Always super busy but wait times are generally ok. They have good vegan options, and will cook your food in veg oil if you ask, otherwise it's done in dripping which I assume tastes great as well. Parking can be a challenge of an evening. Very friendly staff.

Fast and clean but the fish I ordered had a large lemon slice in with it, (I didn't ask for or want lemon), consequently my meal of fish chips peas was tainted. The fish was also quite bland. Chips and peas were ok apart from the lemon after taste.

Best fish and chips, mushy peas, jumbo sausage, gravy and homemade tartar sauce I've probably had. Fish was excellent, delicately fried. Batter was light and airy, wedge of lemon was a nice addition. Chips were very good cooked in their own concuction of oil. I don't normally don't chippy chips but thought I'd give them try. Very glad I did, finished the whole lot. The sides tasted clean and freshly made, sausage was good quality.especially liked the tartar sauce. The 10yr old kid wasn't that impressed though but that's because it wasn't chicken nuggets and potato waffles and she wouldn't know good food if hit her in the face. I have been eating fish and chips for 60 years and I've never wrote a review, well, I have just been in chips at no8 because of the reviews, so here is my 1st review, I ordered haddock chips and peas didn't have to wait that long even though it was cooked to order and I must say it was possibly the best fish I've ever had beautiful white fresh tasty and the peas were proper like you used to get and chips cooked in dripping oh and a slice of lemon to, good size food portions. Will I ever go back, your too dam right I wiil.

Best fish and chips in Prestwich area by a country mile. Fish is always amazing. Chips are very good, but need to be crunchier to get the fifth star from me (although restaurant quality chips that I would give five stars for are a high ask for a local chippy on a busy Friday night).

Amazing quality chips and pies! By far a much better quality of traditional chippy than your standard local. They fry in Beef dripping as standard! So if your veggie/Vegan remember to ask for the veg oil!!

Jan 2019 - Clean, fresh and lovely hot chips. Oct 2019 - just had gluten free fish, and chips. Delicious fish and excellent chips. I was an Armstrong's loyalist, but now I'm switching allegiance. Aug 2021 - Still a great chippy. The quality is the same high standard, and the awards they get are all 100% worthwhile. PS: To get 5 stars, the batter would have to be crisper, not oily.

Best chip shop in the area, bar none. Excellent quality of fish with good sized portions of fish and chips. Friendly staff. Nice selection of sides as well (including deep-fried Creme Eggs when I went at Easter). Choice of cooking in either beef dripping (traditional and delicious!) or vegetable oil. Take-away only - there are usually parking spaces in the evening at the small parking area opposite the shop.

Easy to see why they are in Fry Magazine's top 50. Perfect crisp batter and lovely chips. Their pies sound delicious, can't wait to try those on a future visit. My friend complained that there wasn't enough vinegar (I can't stand the stuff) because they spray the food with vinegar so bear that in mind if you're one of those people who like a river of it.

As a new customer, I am very impressed with this chippie. Today I tried the haddock with chips, and previously the sausage with chips. On both occasions the food was fresh, tasty, and cooked very well. The customer service was very good. Polite, helpful and with a smile. The portion size is spot on, and the pricing is fair, and in line with the local competition. Plenty of free parking, with a car park immediately outside. The restaurant/takeaway looks to be very clean and tidy and all staff are wearing uniform. Excellent chippie, which I can definitely recommend. However I would like No 8’s to consider extending their opening hours. Surely, there is sufficient demand for good food outside of peak lunch and dinner times?

Brands itself as Manc this and Manc that despite being a business that pays its taxes to Bury Council. Just be proud to be one of Bury’s best than be plastic Manc. Also what self-respecting chippy doesn’t open ‘til 4.30PM on Good Friday when everybody knows it’s a non-meat day for millions, including those who aren’t particularly religious. They’d make a killing if they had any business sense and opened at 11AM until 2PM, then 4PM ish til 9/10PM. Chips are decent but portions a bit tight.

Have made several visits to No 8 and on each occasion the food was enjoyable (Fish,chips,peas,curry) however my latest visit was disappointing as the chips contained numerous sharp "bits" which were only fit for the bin unlike previously when the chips were all nice and chunky. For me,the lack of bits with the chips was one of the main factors in re-visiting.Maybe this is just a glitch and things will hopefully be better on my next visit.

Well I am very disappointed to be making this post, however I feel that it is the only way they can maintain their reputation, my last visit was very disappointing the batter on the fish was not up to the usual standard it lacked that bit sensation as it was one hard mass, the peas have if anything improved nice consistency and full of taste now we come to the main disappointment the chips instead of the usual chips there was far more of the little crispy bits that everybody eats at the end instead of a reasonable size chip you can stab your fork into. I have always regarded chips at no 8 as something special but if this had been my first visit it would have been my last overwhelmed service quality second to none and put it all a real paper bag just as i remember from way back , tasted amazing thank you so much When again yesterday 9 dec 2020 still as good as ever even in these difficult times

Just finished a 12hr shift & called in for the first time ever. I ordered fish & chips with plenty s&v, also a buttered barm, which the girl wrote down. There was 3 young girls working & the girl that served me was polite & pleasent. I had abit of a wait, which i didnt mind & the girls chatted & laughed amongst themselves. When my order was ready i had to ask for more vinigar because she only put a splash on. When i got home i thought for the price, the fish was small, although very tasty, also the portion of chips was very small. My buttered barm was nowhere to be seen ! I think a little more attention should be given when seving. On the whole i was dissapointed. I noticed you had a poppy collection box on the counter, could i ask you to put the price of my barm into it please.
