Reviews of Mackie Mayor
P. T.
The atmosphere is great and the food and drink choices are superb, but it is too pricey. An extensive variety of cuisines to choose from (mainly fast food but not necessarily junk: Pizza, Tacos, Burgers, Sandwiches, Noodles, Fish and chips and more). The place has its own Wine and Beer bar which is quite awesome (be careful of asking for the most expensive beer without checking the prices tho).
O. O. (.
Very popular but we'll worth a visit.
After being recommended to visit by a number of people, I finally bit the bullet, but was very glad I did. A food hall over two levels, offering food options from a number of outlets. Everything from burgers to tacos, ramen to Pad Thai and more.
It's very popular, so don't be surprised if you need to wait for a seat, but once you plant yourself down, there is no need to get back up. 👌🏿
R. W.
Incredible food and brilliant atmosphere. Ordering from your phone is a much better process. Staff are fast. Toilets well kept.
W. L.
Great selection of food places and an interesting setting. Some food places are better than others. Ramen and Tacos fantastic. Steak place was a bit weak. Great place if your group can't all decide on one type of food 😅
J. K.
A little bit pricy and over charged concerning dishes. but I love the lively ambience. So this pub is good for beer.
I several visited there. I suppose that it is the only pub that I can go on Friday without reservation in advance.
L. A.
Bustling food Hall with great quality food. The food was rather pricey for the size but it was super tasty. Lots of options and you can order from the phone. I can imagine it being a bit overwhelming for some as It was very busy and a little tricky to find a space to sit and not a lot of contact with staff but over all it was a really atmospheric quirky spot and I would go again.
K.
Amazing atmosphere and the architecture of the building really adds to that. There is a very good selection of food and drinks on offer which is ideal when with a group of people who all fancy something different to eat. Highly recommend to all foodies

Overall recommended, with the exception of... New Wave Ramen - compared to other ramen joints in Manchester such as Tokyo Ramen or CBR, Shoryu (at a stretch..) - the ramen bowls don't stand a chance. The main complaints are a fatty, but bland broth/tare and chashu that hasn't had fat rendered off very well, leading to a sub-optimal mouthfeel and experience. However, the handmade noodles are acceptable.
Mumma's Fried Chicken - delicious burgers and succulent fried chicken thighs that leave you wanting more.
Chilli B - the drunken noodles with beef were absolutely fabulous -- strong, bold flavours with chewy, sticky noodles -- I usually frequent other Thai restaurants, but Chilli B is going to keep me coming back to MM to try some other dishes. I noticed that they have Khao Soi which is sorely missed from many menus in the UK, so will be keen to try this out.
D G H N T - the blueberry donut was heavenly; a lot larger than what I had in mind but I was able to inhale the entire thing without a second thought.
I.
Food options offer variety for most, drink options as well. Ordered from New Wave Ramen, Ramen was amazing and a good portion. Pricing overall is on the mid to high side with some items that meet the pricing/portion standard.
Only issue is some normal ramen toppings being added as an extra when they are standard in many places elsewhere for the dish at a price a bit steep. Would go again to try the range of food serving places, and the other new wave dishes.
Don't sit near the exit during a cold day/winter though cause it can be a bit cold as people keep opening the door.
R. B.
Some great options of food, beers and drinks. The space is really nice and comfortable, the system to order food is easy to use and avoids those terrible lines. The ramen was yummy.
N. T.
Brillaint establishment with multiple small independent businesses found inside, providing a multitude of different types of cuisines from not just England but the world. Prices can be a little steep, however the food is wonderful. The atmosphere really reminds me of a small Spitalfields Market in London. I've been here multiple times and always look forward to going back.
V. J.
Such a wonderful place. Plenty of food options for everyone and the ordering process is so simple. Staff were really quick to bring food & drinks out.
I. S.
Superb.
The place has lovely selection dor lunch breakfast and brunch.
Is an indoor food court with many seats and two floor.
You order and provide the table number and they bring it to you.
Eggs Benedict were delicious!

A really unique setting and quite unique to Manchester. High quality food and convenient in-app table service for both food and drink. No booking system, just turn up and they will seat you. Highly recommend the tacos!
L. K.
A really cool place to go for food & drinks in Manchester. A great variety of foods (we got bao buns to start, followed by pizza). Atmosphere was very nice. It’s a little pricey (although not extortionate), and you can’t pre-book, so finding a spot on a Saturday night was a bit of a challenge. Would recommend going slightly earlier in the evening to guarantee a good spot.
S. L.
Lovely atmosphere, all the staff at different stalls were extremely friendly and helpful. Strongly recommend the chicken burger and bites!
E. M.
Unique place to eat that doesn’t require reservation. Best to get there slightly early to avoid not being able to find a table. The system is table service from the app, from which you can choose from multiple vendors. We ate here two nights in a row over the marathon weekend as we had not organised restaurant bookings but still wanted an experience unique to Manchester. Would highly recommend the Ramen from New Wave Ramen and the Taco’s
V. I. M.
Indoor food and drink market in very pleasant Victorian glass top building that is similar to Stockport Market Hall. A variety of food outlet that will suit a lot of people to eat there vegitarians and others . To mention there are Thai , burgers, fish and chips pizza and and . The seating also good at the middle surrounded by the food counters so you can see dishes pass you before you buy. Also they have upstairs seating .
M. B.
Nice vibe, and the way the seats work make people quite open and friendly. Definitely had a continental vibe that reminded me of Berlin about it. Shake you have to go to the bar to order drinks and can’t use the app like you do for all the other food, but no real bother.
When busy the food was quite slow to arrive so make sure you have enough time to kick back and enjoy it
M. F.
Didn't quite enjoy it as much as usual, in the past there seemed to be many more brunch/breakfast choices but not so much now.
That said the food was amazing - very tasty and well presented albeit pricey but I guess you get what you pay for and this is still one of the best places in Manchester to enjoy a breakfast/lunch.
N. K.
Buzzy type place with some great quality food and flavours, the service is a bit hit and miss but the general vibe is great. I’d recommend the Pad Thai from the noodle place downstairs.
C. B.
Quirky place to eat, great atmosphere. Loved the concept of large tables shared by different groups - find a space and sit. Food was good and service was quick. They close at 10 so don't be caught out leaving it late to eat.
I'm told coffee and cake in the daytime is also very nice.
P. S.
Really nice social place with a lot of choice between food and drink. I really like the wine shop inside it
R. H.
Order from an app. Shared tables but also some smaller options. Lots of foods choices. Went with the tacos and frozen margarita's. Was devine!
C. T.
Amazing that you can order through an app, from multiple vendors, only having to check out once, meaning you can pick the best things from every menu, letting you try a selection. Prices are high but so is the quality of everything. You know it's all freshly made by great vendors. Will be coming back to try different vendors and dishes. Recommend, fried chicken burger from Mamas and all the tacos from Pico's!
P. B.
What an amazing venue. Great food and drink and superb vibe. One of my favourite places in Manchester
Highly recommended the fried chicken
J. J.
A very stylish and unique food court. There is food for everyone there. I ordered the pizza from Honest Crust and it was delicious, couldn’t fault it at all. The food came quickly, the staff was nice, would definitely go again to try the other vendors.
L. K.
A modernised and stylish food court concept in this Grade II listed market. Good selections of different cuisines with a vibrant and open atmosphere. Clean and fast service. Great place to hang out for a casual lunch with friends. Food reasonably priced.
R. H.
Wonderful atmosphere and good selection of food and drink all at reasonable prices.
D. S.
Good atmosphere... great concept.
App doesn't seem to allow you to get bar drinks to the table... and it gets BUSY...
App doesn't update status of your order (mine still hasn't updated from preparing even though I went last night and got what I ordered)...
C. H.
The food tasted nice but was too pricey. I liked that there was a variety of cuisines to choose from at this place.
What I disliked was that all the cutlery was laid on a table next to the entrance for customers to pick up themselves instead of being kept in an internal storage where there were fewer people walking past it.
K. D.
Great atmosphere and interior. Lovely cup of coffee.
A. F.
Lamb Tantanmen was top notch from New Wave Ramen. Great friendly service too. Very busy.
T. L.
Great food hall in the gorgeous old Smithfield market building (or part of it). Wide variety of food on the menu, friendly and knowledgeable staff (especially behind the bar) and the most amazing coffee I've ever tried. Have been a few times with the family (4-6 people) and have never had to wait long for a seat. Highly recommended.
J. R.
Great space for eating out any time of day especially with a big group of people. Went for tacos and pizza 10/10
C. J.
I really like this place because it has a lot of variety so you can come with a group with vastly different tastes and still be able to find something everyone will like.
The biggest downside is that it's so busy sometimes, so it can be hard to find somewhere to sit. I've been a couple of times when the app isn't working, which means you then need to walk around to the different stalls -- when it's busy and you're worried about losing your table, this means everyone ends up going up separately.
The food here is nice, but it's a bit on the more expensive side. The drinks are even worse. They're just silly prices in comparison to other local places, so I never drink here.
G. T. T.
Fantastic place.
Ordering food is confusing tho, some places with an app some places at the counter.
An absolute gem of a place. Must see.
D. A.
Really unique building with a great array of amazing food. Super quick service too.
C. F.
Nice atmosphere, good service and lovely food!
E. M.
Amazing food and great atmosphere. Favourite place in Manchester. There's options for everybody. Would highly recommend it
S. B.
Funky food market with a relaxed atmosphere. There's plenty on offer so it's great for groups because everyone can order something different (meaty, vege, vegan, spicy, junk food etc it's all there!) The frozen margarita is a must! It's bench style sitting downstairs so get cosy with your neighbours or avoid busy times if you aren't used to post pandemic life yet. Prices are good and service is fast even when busy.
J. N.
To one used to London this was so reasonable!
The food and drink were fantastic, with a huge variety, and I would definitely come again
J. A.
Great selection of modern cuisines, all brought to the table via the app. Really nice flavours. Non-alcoholic drinks selection could have been better, for people who are driving etc.
N. F.
Good lively atmosphere and tasty food. Despite offering high chairs and a small tots play area none of the restaurants there do kids portions so on that basis it's too expensive to take children and not family friendly.
T. S.
Great place to try different cuisines all at once! Good atmosphere and we were seated very quickly for a Saturday night.
R. M.
Absolutely stunning place. The chicken burgers, jacket potato fries and frozen margarita's were incredible!!
J. K.
Nice vibe, the service is quick and the food is decent enough if a little pricey but worth it for the surroundings 😎✌️
Q. H.
The chicken thighs burger is so satisfying. The jacket potato chip is very special.
N. P.
Tried a bit of everything. Officially! The best gyoza I have ever eaten.
D. G.
Great vibes and food. Poached eggs with the sausage are delicious
C. M.
Beautiful and the app was easy to use! I loved everything about here
A. D.
Our family love this place. Great atmosphere and something for everyone, we've been going back here for so long and it's still as great as ever. Choice of food is really good, atmosphere is great and staff are always helpful
A.
Relaxed. Great food. Nice people
Fried chicken place inside are abut away with the fairies. But bao bun place is amazing.
Biggest criticism = closes too early.
s. b.
A great surprise for anyone looking for somewhere different to eat.
Having 3 adults and a child we were struggling to find a place we all wanted to eat at. Then we heard about "Mackie's". The place had something for all of us. From Asian to Pizzas and Tacos.
______________________________
Important Bullet points:
• The food choice was great with multiple stalls all with 1 or 2 specialities.
• The atmosphere was active but not loud looking mainly to be used by the local businesses for a nicer dinner.
• The staff where fast and friendly no matter the stall.
• The cafe offers many types of Coffee and from our experience the beans are well chosen and the thought out making for a great experience.
• The bar was great offering a good range of alcoholic drinks and without even asking they were handing me tasters to find out what was best for each costumer.
______________________________
To sum up it's a great place for anyone to visit and have a hastle free meal!
Hope this helped.

Great selection of food options, quite expensive however for a market, also no healthy options. Great atmosphere though and friendly staff. Be handy if they could open upstairs though at lunchtime as we struggled to get a seat.
A. A.
Ordered the The Classic Mumma Burger
+ Jacket Potato Fries. Both tasted great. Nice, clean atmosphere & friendly staff.
A. D.
Always a fantastic selection of vendors, you might have to queue on a Friday/Saturday night but for a mid-week lunch or dinner it's a very easy and impressive walk-up experience that's great for larger groups and couples alike.
I. T.
A bit expensive and the music isn't to my taste (synthy, dance) but that's obvs just personal taste and it might be right up some people's street. Very good choice of foods and drink, so great option if you're going with a group of people who all like different stuff.
I. M.
I literally can't wait until this concept is everywhere! Superb range of options, really cool vibe, service was quick and the food excellent. Loved it so much went two days ina row!
R. A.
Any venue can be judged by complaints. We had a problem with food arriving at different times due to problem with app.
Lee resolved things courteously and to our satisfaction. Really good guy.
Food when it arrived was excellent.
C. Y.
Loved the pad Thai from Chilli B’s!!
A. D.
Slightly overpriced but an experience worth having! The food is great and there are so many options to choose from. It’s very clean and the overall vibe is friendly/fun.
A. d. K.
Great chicken burger and chicken thighs. Was so moist and crispy, definitely the best meal I’ve had in Manchester.
The vibe at Mackie was great, so would encourage a visit to this market. They’ve adapted well to operating under the Covid circumstances, so well done to them!
K. S.
There's something for everyone here. A variety of food options ranging from tacos to steak, making it an excellent place for group dinners where each one can choose what they like. All places have veggie options. Great selection of beer and wine by Reserve Wines. Recommend trying each for stall
m.
A bit odd place. Ordered a pizza and it wasn't that impressive to be honest. It's perfect if you want to meet large group of friends because of the spacious seating area.
H. K.
I've been here a couple of times now and the food is always a really high standard, plus you can pick from several different vendors so everyone is happy :)
There is a £1 service charge per person for a bag with napkins, water etc. You then order & pay via an app, the only gripe I have with this is you can't use android/apple pay or paypal, and you can't save your card details, you have to manually enter them each time. Worth it for the food though!
M. V.
Went to the coffee shop - Atkinson's. All good - beverages, cake, staff, dog friendly, atmosphere. Even saw some empty seats in the main hall - a first for us!
A. S.
Always have a great time here. Plenty of selection, and the venue is so atmospheric. It’s a great place to come for an evening meal and relax with friends. The food is very good too.
R. T.
A nice experience and visited for lunch.
Good choice and prompt service.
We look my brother in law from Spain and he also the food and ambiance.
J. W.
This massive food hall in Manchester really wowed us ! We weren't able to get in our fave burger joint (Almost famous) so took a punt on this huge food hall just up the road in the northern quarter.
We only just managed to get a seat it was so busy !
We ordered from 4 different vendors
🍜@new_wave_ramen Ramen 9/10
Creamy and rich this lamb and pork belly Ramen was delicious and not like ramen I've had before. However due to it being rich it needed something to cut through the richness, so the pickled veggies from the satay chicken were the perfect accompaniment.
🍔@mummasfriedchicken Burger 9/10
Juicy fried chicken, blue cheese and bacon , glossy brioche , delicious! Just wish the price included fries.
🌮@eatpicos Flat corn crisps with hot sweet corn and feta dip 10/10 these were something new to us and totally delicious, we want to try recreate this corn dip at home ! Warm Scorched corn with a Herby dressing , tipped with crumbled feta and chilli
🍗@chillib_thai Thai satay chicken 8/10
Lovley peanut sauce but I think we prefer when the chicken is crisper.
❤️Overall a fantastic meal in a really exciting venue. The hall is a beautiful old market hall that's been repurposed. Even though it was so busy we struggled to get a seat, the service was fast and efficient and tables were cleared at lightning speed too. We got sat next to the nicest chatty dad and daughter who had been to the football too, and it made the experience all the better. We would definitely return when next in Manchester.
Thanks @mackiemayor!
M. K.
Beautiful place and a huge variety of dishes - simple but tasty 😋.
You choose a table go to one of the counters to order and pay (food is served later).
There is are bars for wines and beers you can choose from.
A great location to meet with friends and have a good time.
N. R.
Giant food hall with multiple food vendors, bars and cafes. Online ordering and table service. Shabby chic in former market hall. Bustling atmosphere most nights.
A. Z.
Beautiful venue, plenty of options for food and drinks. Very spacious and the food was lovely. Not awarding it 5* as I believe that the price is too high for the portion sizes on offer.
For a work lunch or a day out, would certainly recommend!
C. 5.
Great food and interior design.
z.
Beautiful old market building with lots of charm. Great to grab a table and wonder off to different stalls to order your food and drinks. We had a steak sandwich and spicy lamb sausage from Tender Cow. It's safe to say that we were both surprised at how incredible the food was! Also had coffee from the coffee stall and it was wonderful.
H. T.
I love this place. I got recommended by a friend and I can’t recommend it enough. As a setup it’s a bit of a North American input - one big warehouse setup housing lots of built in small food companies. All the food places are great and there’s good coffee/wine/beer places too. The decor is absolutely awesome with big open social tables. Prices aren’t cheap but you are paying for quality.
M.
Just had a great meal experienced here at Mackie Mayor Food Court which was used to be a Meat Market during 1800’s & now for two years running as a Food Court with different style of dishes. We simply had chicken wings which was so Tasteful & Burger so delicious simple but so yummy, I can’t remember the red 🍷 we just had but it was perfect with our chosen meal
A. S.
This is an amazing, upmarket food court of independent eateries hosted in an old refurbished market. I ended up coming here 3 times in 3 days (for breakfasts/lunch) as we were a large group and the format meant we could all pick and choose exactly what we wanted to eat and drink while sitting together at large communal tables. Each restaurant is clearly very passionate about what they do and the food quality was consistently excellent across the board. I couldn’t even pick a favourite. They have pizza, fresh pasta, fish, rotisserie chicken/porchetta, steak, Bao, coffee and pastries, plus good vegan/vegetarian options. I would absolutely go back!
P. B.
This is an absolute gem in a city that needs good food choices. The venue is amazing, set in an old industrial warehouse it is a comfortable space for groups, couples or individuals. There is an abundance of options from pizza, to burgers, coffee and cakes and fish. I was lucky enough to try Fin Fish Bar which had a selection of beautiful looking fresh salads and the days catch on display. The person serving us was helpful in recommending some options which we were happy to go with. The food was insanely delicious, fresh and well presented....I could not recommend eating here enough, it is well worth the price tag and showcases fresh English seafood to perfection.
N. B.
I called here mid week lunchtime, found it easy to get a seat. I really like the variety of food on offer including meat free and vegan options. The place reminds me of an upmarket food court with the food being prepared around the centre of the seating area. Grab a table number and go order food and it will be brought to you. Be mindful some vendors on take cards for payment. Food was delicious and will definitely be going back.
T. B.
What an amazing place. This is most certainly worth a visit and experience the amazing set they have here.
Find a table if you can... It gets busy quickly. Then head to the 10 or so different kitchens to place your order. Each kitchen has a different style of food, so all your mates can be happy. Food is delivered quickly considering, to your table on about 10mins. I do recommend grabbing your drinks at the wine or beer bar during this time.
Amazing atomosphere and a stunning renovation of a classic and very nice building. It's great to see it in use.
B. H.
Great selection of vendors, great atmosphere for a drink, nibbles or a whole meal. Can't wait to go back.
D. M.
So I have really mixed feelings about this place. The atmosphere was super cool and it's a great place for a larger group (we were 12 people).
You get to go a bunch of different kitchens and try different cuisines.
BUT, this place is very expensive. Like, way more than it's worth. Sure the food is okay, but the prices aren't justifiable I'm afraid.
You're honestly better going somewhere else if: you want better quality food and are willing to splash out, or, you are looking for a chill place with average quality food but with much more reasonable pricing.
J. B.
This indoor food hall is a must in Manchester. Honestly, if you are in Manchester you have to come here. It is coeliac, vegan and kids friendly, plenty of restaurants were to choose from and long convivial communal tables ( I love this, welcome up north were people speak to each other).
S. H.
Food was good if a little pricey and not exactly huge portions. They do need to have more staff clearing tables as this seemed almost non existant
V. W.
It's nice to have a food court full of independent caterers. The atmosphere is nice and the food is tasty. It can be a bit difficult to find a seat on a Friday or Saturday night and the wait for food is quite long.
There are a good variety of drinks from wine to gin to beer. There's also a wide range of food to choose from.
The drinks are a reasonably priced but I think that the food is a bit expensive. However, it's nice to go as a one-off in a rather casual environment.
S. M.
Place was fantastic in both atmosphere and food. I really liked the open room vibe and cafeteria style ordering system to get your drinks and food. Had the mackarel wrap, salad and the pork belly for the two of us and was more than enough food!
M. O. T. M.
Really cool place. Nice vibes. All independent stuff. Can be hard to get a seat so get there very early or get lucky on a Saturday. Be prepared to pay a bit more for the luxury of having independent stuffnin a unique social space with Lovely Victorian Splendour all around, restored from a market from a bygone era.
K. S.
I really loved this place and this concept. Great selection of different food. Good amount of seats. Central location. GREAT food. Prices slightly above average, but still very mutch worth it!
A. Z.
Great atmosphere and food to match. I don't even like avocado; but the avocado on sour dough toast with a poached egg was a welcome hangover cure. Something for all tastes and the building has been tastefully renovated as well. Being able to order the atkinsons coffee directly to your table is a lovely bonus.
J. H.
These were some of the nicest plates of food I have ever tasted. Artisan food craft at it's finest!
I love the ethos of this place, giving new life back into what was once the city's commercial meat market.
N. J.
What a lovely place to go and eat and drink. Loads of long tables to eat at and so many places to choose to eat from. I had the steak from Tender Cow with triple cooked chips and mushrooms and this is another place that has learnt to cut the steak into thin slices so that it is easy to cut and eat. I loved it.
K. S.
I love this place. It's a beautiful venue, with an awesome number of food and drink options. In summer, the outdoor seating area is open, which is also undercover, so won't get wet in the rain. Tuesday and Thursday's, one of the bars does 241 on cocktails (and you can mix and match). The food is fantastic, whichever you decide. Wonderful pizza, incredible steak and the smells from the other counters are to die for. If you're looking to eat, where everyone wants something different, this is the place. The main communal seating area downstairs is usually very busy, but upstairs has plenty of space and remember your table no. Otherwise, your food won't get delivered to you.
Y. N.
A nice selection of cuisine in a super cool building. We had Thai, Mexican and steak & chips - all tasty and freshly prepared but not exactly cheap. Seating was comfortable, staff were friendly and the place is very COVID ready. Definitely worth a visit!
Z. Q.
Went there second day of the opening, instantly became one of my favourite spots in Manchester. These people sure got lots of experience in the Autrincham project, which can obviously seen in this new market in northern quarter. Good selection of food and drink, love the pork belly and pizza. Only regret is every time I went there the fish window is always closed (between 16:00-17:00 if I remember it right).
K. S.
Fantastic spot in Manchester. Whether you fancy great pizza, steak or even ramen, this is the place.
Gets really busy around dinner time so make sure you get in there early and get a table!
The ramen gets better every time I go.
100% would recommend New Wave Ramen in here as a Japanese person!
H. H.
Great venue to sit and chill, with a good range of food options - pretty pricey though
D. B.
Great place, lovely music, quick service, a variety of snacks, meals & drinks. A place to eat & work, a corner to study. I love the concept of multiple restaurants in one location. It’s a redecorated old fish market turned into a hall to dine. It’s a lovely atmosphere at nights & great for coffee & snacks mornings.
L. G.
Brilliant place. You wouldn't think you were in Manchester. Set in the old meat market at Smithfield. It a huge open space full of food stalls on the outer area a wine bar and real ale and Cider bar. Seating is long benches and tables so you will be mingling with everyone. It has a higher balcony where you sit and look down on everything. You're best off grabbing a seat before heading off for food as they deliver it to where you are sat. Your location is found on wooden spoons where you sit. Just give this to the station you choose your food from and away you go. We had a pizza and some sweet potato wedges. It is a little expensive but I imagine the overheads arent cheap. £5.50 for a portion of wedges. £15 for a pizza. It was delicious food. We'll worth a visit in this friendly relaxed environment. But it does get busy.
P. M.
Great place with a wide range of food to try. We had the shashlika which was excellent. Our friend had the pork belly sandwich which was good, but a bit oily (the dressing was a bit too much). Good place to visit but I did think it was a bit expensive.
C. C.
Some really nice beers available, good atmosphere and a great selection of food. Would definitely go again next time I'm in Manchester. The Haddock Tacos were not something I'd tried before but I was pleasantly surprised.
C. B.
Good selection of food but a bit pricey. Some of the hipster beers were £10+, food averages at about £13 a meal. There is an app to buy the food (alt.eats) but it is hit or miss whether the food is correct or you get something else. Plus if you're sitting downstairs, don't sit too close to the far end of the hall, the music coming from the speakers drowns out all conversation noise. Despite these problems I'd still give it 4 stars due to the different foods available
B. C.
LOOOOOOOOOOOOOVED IT! Perfect concept, building, ambience, selection, food & quality!
S. B.
Loved it here. 1st time going. You order through an app and pay through the app also and its brought to your table.
Lots of choice of food.
Love the use of this space.
J. H.
Arty, artisan, photogenic low key, hippie, earthy eatery with some amazing food choices. Try the pizzas baked there & then in proper pizza ovens while you watch.
M. U.
Fantastic food, great atmosphere and has something for everyone. Beer, wines and spirits!. Dog friendly, although no dogs attended on this occasion :-) Self-order at the bar, grab a drink and chill out on the long tables with friends! An awesome meeting place!
A. E.
Absolutely loved Mackie Mayor! We were a large party so everyone was happy with the variety of food offered. I had the mackerel salad on a wrap. Was absolutely gorgeous in both presentation and taste.
Y. B.
Stunning food court with a wide selection of food and drinks, although slightly pricey. A good place to hang out with group of friends.
J. F.
Fantastic foodie food hall with some excellent and different food choices along with a coffee shop, wine shop and a pub as well as water on the table. I like the concept of grabbing a table, eating with friends and choosing what you want that is then delivered to your table. The prices are quite steep for what you get, though, hence only 4 stars. £14 for my roast pork, chicken fat roast potatoes and aioli felt like too much for what it was. Beers start at £4 a pint and go up to £6 although you can have 2/3s as well as a half. All in all, a great concept and a lovely environment, I just wish the prices were a little bit closer to the fresh food stalls almost across the road in the Arndale Markets (which are worth a visit themselves!).
M. C.
Ex Market Hall. Has a variety of food stalls and different drinks stands.
Had decent real ale and nice Thai food. Typical city centre prices. Worth a visit.
J. W.
Good vibe, delicious food . Sometimes is too busy.
R. 8.
Really cool venue, great food and beer from a choice of high quality vendors
R. M.
Remarkable building dating back to the 1860's , varied types of food on offer plus real ale available. Worth a visit ! Very busy on Saturday !!
K.
Social scranchitecture predicated on the notion that buildings can never really be complete and unalterable. This ornate foodhall offers sustenance to satiate all dietary needs: the perfect antidote to culinary indecisiveness when eating in groups. Tender Cow's Steak Sandwich is a personal favourite. Exquisite.
J. B.
Awesome. The food was very good. The atmosphere is great. All the employees seem so happy which makes a great environment. Love it.
A. A.
The old Smithfield Market Hall has been upcycled as a place where independent bars and restaurants reside. Food and drink choices cater to meat, vegetarian and vegan. The vibe is chilled and I'm currently here alone and I don't feel like an outsider. It isn't age specific and encourages people to bring their families along. It has become one of my favourite places to hang out in the city centre.
A. F.
Great atmosphere and the food is amazing! Ordering on the app is really easy and fast. Staff is also really friendly! Recommended!
J. B.
I kept finding myself returning here. Exceptional food, coffee, drink and space. Tough to capture in words but this place just works. Appears to be run as a collective or cooperative with an amazing collegiality by all the staff I encountered. Atkinson Coffee and the Thai stall are my absolute favourites. Great space to sit and people watch, especially from the upper level dining area. They created lovely ambience in this old meat market which has brilliant architectural embellishments.
B.
A really attractive venue that looks and feels good. A former meat market converted to a market place venue with different food and drink providers. Drinks are reasonably priced but food is a bit on the expensive side. Very good ambience and can be very family orientated at weekend. Can get pretty busy at weekend. Dog friendly for those with pooches!
R. C.
Great food, super atmosphere, no booking and not easy to get a seat ATM as it's rather new. Slightly on the expensive side but worth it!
P. P.
I loved everything about this place. Atmosphere, interior design, food, staff - a good place to start your day!
R. F.
Gets busy over the weekend. They have some gluten free options available. I'd recommend downloading the alt.eat app for more information.
C. F.
What a find! Blown away by this place. The building, the selection of food and drink...absolutely unexpected.
P. E.
Great place, a must visit when in Manchester. Food, drinks or both, you can't go wrong
F. V.
I have been living in Manchester for over 2 months now and this is my favorite place. Hands down.
The entire vibe is just warm and comforting. I come and eat here by myself but it’s also perfect to bring family and friends.
The food is delicious and it is absolutely perfect for people watching.
You must come!!!!
C. M.
What, no burger?
Showing a trend away from the gourmet burger movement (aka how much can I convince you to pay money for an item that you could quickly and cheaply prepare were you at home) the focus is on conviviality, everyone sits on benches. There’s a nook for kids to fidget within sight of parents and the focus is on rare breeds and local produce.
Drawing inevitable comparisons to their similarly themed Altrincham Market, what this lacks in parking, it makes up with the presence of unbelievably delicious Bao.
D. K.
Recently opened Mackie Mayor is bringing the formula of Altrincham Market to MCR.
The Grade II listed building has been fully renovated - offering high-end food and drink.
Once fully open capacity will be 500+!
Only criticism is that it can get expensive to eat - expect to pay restaurant prices for everything.
However, its very much worth the visit - Honest Crust is especially good!
V. W.
This is by far the best food halls I have ever been to in the UK!! The traders are local and independent. The menu is extensive and never boring. I particularly love the seafood restaurant as they are exceptionally fresh and delicious!! The atmosphere is casual and fun. Love the interior and the seating arrangement. This market sits right on the edge between casual and stylish, making it the perfect weekend hangout spots for foodie with styles!
S. S.
Excellent little gem of the Northern Quarter, which caters for (almost) everyone. Good selection of drinks and ales too. Great place to take both friends, family or work colleagues.
D. N.
Can't believe I had never been here before, there is something for everyone, brilliant for large groups or just couples.
M. C.
Great idea! Good for groups. Can have some issues with account setting up. Second visit much easier
C. H.
Great atmosphere and the food is amazing!
J. B.
Love the indoor market style bars and restaurants! Order straight to your table from the app. Always a buzzing atmosphere 🙌
L. B.
Delicious food and drinks, a little pricey but not bad given the area. It was really busy but still didn't feel too closed in.
A. M.
Got the chicken burger. Really delicious, and the payment process was really easy! Bathrooms were also clean. Saw someone else who got ramen, which also looked great - not sure how much it was though.
P. R.
Really nice atmosphere, good food. Had the ramen and that was nice, friends had the Thai food and they enjoyed it. Food was a little bit pricey but acceptable. App used for ordering food and drinks has some bug and was hard to use but ultimately got there.
S. L.
Delicious drunken noodles and my mates meals looked pretty great too.
Love having a mix and match feeding experience
M. Q.
Love this place, food is amazing, atmosphere so relaxed, great beers as well.
D. A.
The place to go in Manchester. Amazing ambience. Amazing food, especially the Crispy Pork Belly Sandwich. Easily the best sandwich I've ever had. The only place where you'll see people from very different generations striking up a conversation. Price is fair too.
Z. H.
I was recommended to visit this place by so many friends , it was all I heard people talking about.
After visiting I now understand why. This place brings some magical street food vendors together under one aesthetic and cool roof -just on the edge of Northern Quater 😍
Don't go empty pocketed as it's a little on the expensive side but you definitely get your moneys worth, I'm in love 😭😍 and my heart will never feel the love I felt for my first 'Bao' again
Y. C.
Great food court, spacious and high ceiling makes the ambiance pretty cool. Variety of food choice from breakfast to lunch and snacks. Pizza, steak sandwiches, waffles, eggs and good quality beers. Toilets are pretty clean and no line even it was a busy day. Great spot to wait and get tipsy before a Man City game.
L. B.
Mackie Mayor is amazing, I really enjoyed the selection of places to eat once in side and the aesthetic is so beautiful.
Plates are small so it's good to order from a few of the venues which can be a little pricey but worth it. Definitely the place for a good relaxed date atmosphere. I'll be going here again for sure.
As far as I could tell- it was disability friendly and accessible :)
Y. Q.
Loooooved this place ! Absolutely fantastic range of authentic , locally sourced food with a diverse menu due to the different types of huts there are. Something for everyone, although a little on the expensive side. I had the most delicious steak and eggs. Would definitely go back for more.
h. a.
I expected it to be a lot bigger - but it's still a beautiful place. Beware to check the crowdedness the next time you visit this place
J. S.
Great experience/finally visited after years of meaning to. Accidentally left something and left my details with security to find I was called later. Big thanks to Felix!
G. H.
Super cool place. Great choice of food. You must try this place.
F. M.
Was badly let down by staff at Tender Cow. Clearly was too good to serve people. Portion was a let down (picture 2) for £32. Meat was alright, nothing special to shout about.
Rotisserie on the other hand!!! What an amazing way to jazz up roast cauliflower!!! And the Porkbelly dishes. Absolute beauty!!! Cook served me but unlike Mr. I'm-too-good-to-serve-you, he was so patient with my questions. Also the same price at £32 yet look at the amazing portion differences.
High point: Very dog-friendly. Plenty of seating area but it's communal so if you plan to create a war strategy, go when it's quiet.
Low point: Snobbery from Tender Cow. Even Goucho's staff aren't this snobbish.
S. S. S.
Vibe and building is very cool.
Take ur own cutlery and tap water and all that service.
Ramen is a bit salty. Very very thin two pork slices. Not worth the price.
Steak was £17. very normal size. I wouldn't pay for it again.
Clean toilets.
Chips side is tiny.
D.
Ok food, but absolutely crazy expensive for food, considering you are not really having a restaurant experience as well but you share a long table with multiple strangers.
S. M.
This place gets really busy, but it's understandable why. Interior is amazing and so is the food. Prices aren't extremely high, but portion size is not enough to fill you up. Pictured is a tofu burger from Bao.
C. H.
Mackie Mayor is a great place to go for a fancy lunch - there are lots of options. Veggie, a few vegan (not enough but some), different cuisines from pizza and tacos to bao and salads. Plus there is a bar and multiple coffee shops. The long tables make it good for groups, as long as you don't mind getting cosy with your friends.
J. W.
Great choice of food. Can be a pain getting a table sometimes, especially if you're a big group.
R. M.
What a lovely place to go and eat and even just take in the view. There is choice a-plenty with all types of food to choose from. The food is lovely I have been several times and sampled all sorts. Some of the “sides” are quite expensive but it’s well worth it. There is also a good choice of beers and wine too!
V. L.
I want to be upset at how ridiculously expensive it is, but I also want to have the porchetta sandwich again... Melts in your mouth and it's so tasty is incredible (from Nationale 7). We also had the steak sandwich from Tender Cow
A. B.
Went here for the first time yesterday and loved it. Only had a drink but can't wait to go back for something to eat with friends and family.
S. B.
Amazing place with a nice vibe to it. Bunch of restaurants with a common seating place. Very friendly! But only few shops accept American Express 🥲
G. H.
Nice set up and atmosphere. Food was average- we ordered pizza and pad thai.
H. A.
Great coffee, great vibes, even better sweets. Deadly.
R. B.
Cool atmosphere, great food and drinks
A. J.
Brilliant dining space just outside of the Northern Quarter so it's definitely a "destination" place as opposed to somewhere you'd stumble across. It is worth seeking out though as it's a fantastic, bright, airy space filled with a great selection of food vendors along with coffee and craft beer. I visited with my team at work, and it's ideal for big groups as there is something for all tastes.
My only criticism is that everything feels a couple of pounds overpriced for what you get, and this was a sentiment echoed by everyone in our group. So if it's value you want there are better options on the Northern Quarter, but if you're in a big group and want somewhere to comfortably spend an hour or two then Mackie Mayor is ideal
J. W. L. K.
We tried La Cucina and honey crust pizza. Both were nice specially La cucina, the squash tagliatelle was so good! Lots of choices for vegetarian / vegan too.
G.
Really like the walk in and no booking approach of this place, unique ambiance with nice variety of food from the traders!
A. C.
Great craft beer, loads of food choices.
T. H.
Charming. Artisan food stalls. Expensive but interesting and cool. Busy, definitely worth a visit if you want Street food
M. M. S.
Very nice venue with great choice of food (wine, beer, pastries, coffee, fish, pizza, salads, etc). Spacious and with lots of light. Lots of tables and seating space. A great place in Manchester, especially on a rainy day. Usually quite busy, but almost always possible to find a table.
S. S.
We visited Wolfhouse Coffee and had 3 amazing cakes with an English Breakfast Tea and a Peppermint Tea. Cakes were very fresh and absolutely fantastic, with barely a crumb left of any of the plates. Despite being very busy we were served quickly by the friendly staff and our drinks were brought to our table a few minutes later. Would totally recommend this over any of the larger chain coffee shops.
P. G.
Love it. Really good food selection and great drinks on offer. Quite big but nice and good service
B. W.
Went here after going to Altrincham markets, and it didn’t disappoint. Really good food on offer and what a space! Great selection of beer and wine as well.
M. W.
Excellent place to chill and relax with easy going drinks and food, some colourful art work on the way to the toilets.
C. K.
Fab fresh and local food. Went for cake and a drink this time Saturday lunch so wasnt too busy. Always worth a trip
G. P.
A real treat, if you were passing the building you would miss it, yet inside is a collection of interesting food providers, not cheap, but very good, lots of room, a very friendly atmosphere, seating upstairs and downstairs, an outside seating area, a separate bar, the building is interesting in itself, a real gem, up the street from the old fish market in the northern quarter!
F. P.
Great places to eat with a varied selection of food choices to suit everyone
E. E.
Good food court with casual feel. Nice mix of outlets and good service.
E. R. M.
Slightly expensive (London prices) but really good menus, fresh produce and nice ambiance
Strongly recommend the buns at wolfhouse coffee.
A. A.
Good for a tasty meal in a nice space!I had a god experience!I Recomend
R. T.
Great night. Food was delicious. Atmosphere was spot on and the music first class. Definitely a must go place!
E. W.
Wide range of food and are really good. The environment is quite industrial.
J. F.
This is a great project and well done. Find a seat, then go get some great food and drink. Food is brought over to your table when ready. Lovely building and well used space. Plenty of seating, although it does get extremely busy at certain times and you may have to wait to get a seat. Certainly worth a visit. Good variety of food choices and even better drink options. Wines galore, craft beers and gorgeous coffees (particularly Atkinson's!). Although the prices are a tad high, you won't be disappointed.
S. S.
Food was delicious, really good chicken burger and amazing company l. Noodles were nae bad
A. K.
I love the concept of this place but I was disappointed with the food and service. I waited over half an hour for a cup of coffee, which was barely warm when it arrived. The food I had was mediocre. I have given three stars rather than one/two because the aesthetics are great, so was the atmosphere. Overall disappointed though. I won't go back.
M.
Unique and convenient are the first two words that come to mind.
Wonderful place, great food and a brilliant ordering app/service. Mackie Mayor just has that feel good factor about it.
If you’re new to Manchester, add it to your list. I went there months before moving into the area and very much enjoyed it.
E. W.
The burgers are amazing as was the pizza. Really appreciated that our request for some hot sauce was met by each vendor (we received a pot of hot sauce for the burger and with the pizza they gave us chili oil) very accommodating. On Saturday night we queued for about 15 minutes, it was worth the wait. Nice atmosphere. Have to pay a pound to go in. You receive free water on entrance.
D. C.
Foodhall-style eatery with several vendors offering foods such as seafood, rotisserie chicken to sandwiches and fusion-style baos. Great atmosphere, nice experience but I personally didn’t like the shared tables so it’s not a place I would frequent. But hey you can’t please everybody.
C. K.
This old market has a great atmosphere with long tables and a good range of food outlets. We had mushrooms on toast with poached eggs that was excellent but a bit pricey at £10 and a bruccetta with a perfectly spiced bean and fennel topping that was fantastic and tasty and better value at £6.50. I like that there is water on the table so no need to buy drinks if you want to save money. The pizzas looked good too so we'll be back to try them.
T. w.
Fantastic food ,food value and great buzzzzzz.
A.
The food, the drinks, and the service are very good, but the Security Officer Felix is the real star. My family and I have been there last Friday and he went above and beyond in a very courteous way, while demonstrated his high professional standards.
A. O. C.
I think I had the best avocado on toast ever at Mackie Mayor! So glad I squeezed in a visit to this Manchester city gem!
C. B.
Love the idea of having lots of choice but all are quite pricey. It's a great space for post work meetings and groups where people have lots of different tastes
N. B.
A different way to eat. Food was nice but the ordering process needs improving
R. O.
Great little beer and artisan food hall, will deffo be going back!
S. D.
Came for lunch here and it wasnt too busy to find a seat, a lovely atmosphere and such great choice of food and drinks. Will be back!
S. D.
Not many gluten free options
Have to download app to order food.
Have to pay £1.00 service charge.
M.
Very busy and exciting place to eat. The architecture and decor is fabulous. Lots of choice for food and drink, although a couple more vegan options wouldn't hurt. It is great that Manchester has a place like this, and I hope a few more old buildings can get a new lease of life in a similar way
P. S.
Went to try out honest crust and was really impressed. Will be back soon!
M. M.
Excellent experience here on Saturday evening with my husband and our 7 year old granddaughter. Pizzas were excellent and the ambiance was terrific. Our granddaughter asked why we hadn't taken her before
Ha ha.
D. G.
Love the ability to order food at random from any eatery, beer top notch.
J. T.
Been 6pm on both Friday and Saturday evening and had to que 5 mins for a table to become available. But worth it. Atmosphere very good with massive selection of food.
What makes it stand out is the quality of food, it’s excellent. The flavours in our fish tacos was excellent. Not cheap, just high quality food.
s. t.
Class food and very weird and wonderful beer choices
K. P.
Lovely atmosphere, really friendly staff. Can't comment on the tea but you will definitely be spoilt for choice. I enjoyed my mocha with coconut milk but don't expect big cups like in the big chains. Enjoy your break in the Northern Quarter!
M. H.
Fantastic place to relax, eat and drink. Excellent staff. Go for the Mystery wine you won't be disappointed. The only slight criticism is the ordering method using an App, not the quickest nor user friendly but the staff are always on hand to help out.
D. S. F. (.
Nice big hall with lots of food and drink choices. Nice rustic feel and buzz.
a. a. t.
Was a first time visit but not the last food lovely and great atmosphere 👌
L. H.
A hidden gem in Manchester, can't recommend enough, the pizza is amongst the best you'll find in the Northwest, Atkinson's coffee is gorgeous, jack in the box does the best draft coke you'll find, the bao place, although gorgeous, a little overpriced. I've been twice in two days. I honestly can't big this up enough, it's beautiful. A must visit!
M. H.
Great looking and tasting food. It’s popular so you may struggle for a seat at times.
M. E.
First time at Mackie Mayor and what a great experience. Buzzing atmosphere in a "shabby chic" environment. All the food that I saw looks very appetising and ours, the Gyoza dumplings and Bao Buns were excellent. Very tasty. Very well organised too, just order what you like on the app and it is delivered to your table. Don't need to order everything at the same time, just treat it like a cross between street food and tapas. Highly recommended.
J.
Nice little meet up place for a coffee and a snack.
O.
We love the Mackie Mayor even if it is a tad expensive. What we don't like is the barman at the beer bar with a bad attitude and seemingly little knowledge of the beers he's serving. Giving out flat pale ales as lager then being rude when asked to swap to what was asked for. Clearly didn't want to be there and won't be going to get beer from him again. Went to reserve wine after a couple of altercations with this rude man and the staff there were lovely and friendly and found us some wine that was perfect for us. Mackie Mayor 5 star, Rude Bartender 0 Stars.
E. G.
Great spot with lots of different food traders. Quite expensive for what it is but always an enjoyable visit
S. H.
Gorgeous building, not easy to find a table. Over 35 minutes wait for pizza with no update, rest of party who ordered from two other outlets had food within 10 minutes. When pizza arrived dietary requirements message was ignored and we had to find a member of staff to ask about the wrong order.
One girl was really helpful and came back to update us and apologise, other staff looked rather annoyed with us for raising the fact the order was wrong and had taken so long in the first place.
S. D.
Great place for a rest and lunch after site-seeing. A bit hipsterish but still delicious food and atmosphere.
S. R.
What an amazing experience in here. A great building with a good history. The beer bar is a little small considering the footfall but the food is outstanding, if a little expensive. Couldn't afford to go all the time but definitely worth a visit.
I. K.
Fish & Chips -when in England. Most perfect fresh fries I have had since long time. Amazing place. Must see when in Manchester!
S. L.
Usually quite busy but can grab a table pretty quickly. Staff are usually about to shout for tap water etc. My go-to is a beer from Jack in the Box along with some Chilli B...
D. A.
Great food great price. Lovely atmosphere in the wonderfully renovated location. Keep up the good work guys.
B. S.
Food was amazing x
R. F.
I wanted to love this place after I saw it before it was transformed into this food court.
The online ordering really isn't great, so our party opted for part online, part in person. Of course that meant not spending the time together and food arriving at different times. It just wasn't slick. The food did arrive to the table fairly quickly though.
My food was OK, nothing special. And everyone else seemed happy with theirs too. Burgers, Thai curry, and pizza.
It was really noises, the sound bounces around so everone talk really loud, which makes it even worse to hear.
R. W.
Poppee in for a small lunch. Steak sandwich, bao buns and some spring rolls. All delicious, app works so well in this set up. Food and drinks came out quickly and the staff were really helpful. Have already recommended it to friends.
N.b - we considered this place for vegan / dairy/ gluten dietary needs and i didn't see a great deal of choice.
Z. M.
Lovely place to suite everyone's food needs... proper chilled out vibe.
C. R.
Great place to have a few beers with friends, fish tacos were excellent.
J. W.
The place is lovely the atmosphere is really welcoming dog and baby friendly which is nice but the food over priced for what you get.
B. A.
I loved this place. I will definitely be visiting again. I love the fact that there is a wide range of food to choose from!
K. P.
Really good! Love this place 👌🏼
W. A.
Trendy food restaurant/cafe/takeaway Market. Can't get a beer before midday though!!!!!
R. L.
Great space and concept, multiple food businesses sharing the same space with communal tables. Great quality food and coffee
S. C.
the location is quite convenient, choice of variety of foods, very popular, and we have to sit at M/F and there are many small insects, like flies, which are rather annoying
M. C.
No need for booking, tons of choices for drinks and food! Really cool place for a nice night out.
L. A.
Just like Altrincham Market, great if you can get a seat. Just go and enjoy and chill. Don't get angry that there's no where to sit or no one will move. Just enjoy godd food and drink. Whatever you choose!
j. n.
Only had one drink, place we had never been before, but we will return. The gent who welcomes you was very thorough and courteous. Seating spacious and in line with all Covid practices. The app kept freezing which made ordering drinks tricky so had to call for assistance. Quite pricey but worth a visit. Very dog friendly
G. R.
Cool edgy place in the NQ. First time here and really enjoyed it. Very interesting ales and wines and not to mention the diverse array of small eats. Come early or be prepared to wait about 30 minutes for a table as it gets quite busy on a weekend. Quite a little hidden gem in Manc!
H. T.
Loved our visit here. Ordering through 1 phone onbthe App was a bit fiddly but the service and food made up for it. Have recommended it to all my friends.
H. T.
Really great chill space, service times can vary from unit to unit.
G. M.
There’s something for everyone here! Tasty food and fast service. Will 100% be back!
L. B.
Great food, great drinks. Just generally great!
J. W.
One of the trendiest places to eat and drink in town, a certain must visit. But... it's super busy, pricey and closes early in the evening (last food orders are 9pm).
J. F.
Lovely building on edge of the northern quarter. The good and drink outlets inside are excellent.
M. H.
Visited a few times but enjoying this gorgeous pizza and two pints of blackjack brewery beer was a definite highlight
B. W.
Great atmosphere and range of food. Eaten from a few different places everything was nice! The building is really interesting, I believe it is an old market. You can order direct from food venders or on an app (the app makes it easy but can be glitchy).
M. B.
Really good food. Lots of choicw and the service is really quick!
£4.9 for a beer is a great price and I highly recommend the nachos!!
The pizzas are also really good.
Great place for a first date or just for a casual hangout with friends!!
C.
Busy but understandably so because the food stalls are all lush!
P. S.
Lovely space for a snacky meal. Lots of choice of different cuisines, all situated within an old market that was derelict until recently
Cheap and cheerful. But brilliant experience.
A. S.
We went to New Wave Ramen for their popup event, hands down the best ramen I've ever had from the guest restaurant that was in. Incredible flavour, creamy and the tea stained egg was excellent! Massive portions and great venue at Mackie Mayor.
M. W.
Great discovery, nice atmosphere, good food and drink and highly recommended
S. T.
Not that busy last Tuesday which was a bonus but if it is busy just wait. The only difficulty you'll have is choosing what to eat. We went for Pad Thai and a duck panang with brown rice. £11-15 for a plate from Chilli B. It raised the hairs on my arm it was that good. Beer is good too, nice to see Red Willow brewery from macc represented. Onto the frog and bucket after.
l. n.
Great atmosphere and fantastic food choices - could have stayed here all day. The fried chicken thighs are some of the best I’ve ever tasted.
H. C.
Amazing interior! Stunning place with good food and drink offerings from a variety of smaller stalls you can order from
h. a.
Just like the altrincham site, a vibrant place, an independent food hall. Love it
A. C.
Went for a lunch with colleagues. Wide choice lovely food. The building is probably the best bit. It's impressive. Can imagine being lively in the evening.
F. M.
Crowded and you get the wrong impression you have much choice .. you don't it's the usual pizza or burger in the UK....
A. H.
Great food, great atmosphere and a very quirky place to eat! Very lively and a great place to socialise in large or small groups.
s. e.
Very nice coffee and an amazing cheeseburger from the Tender Cow. Exceeded our expectations. Highly recommend.
H. C.
In town for a couple of days and couldn't believe how great this place was - a real gem, lively with great beers on tap and a little conooknto buy nice Gins and wines.
K. S.
I come here almost on a regular basis. Quick service and all the vendors serve amazing good. Im slowly eating my way through all their menus. It’s my go to when I’m looking to for a chilled out place to eat at.
Z. F.
100% recommend, food and drink were really good and service was fast. Ordering on app is very convenient, no booking required.
Thai restaurant is worth to try!
D. M.
Nice experience and good location. Not sure why I couldn't order drinks on the app. Had to go get them. Not an issue but strange that everything else you can order from your table...
J. M. C. A.
Awesome market in city centre. Different food and drinks all in the same place. The food is order and bring to your table. The problem is to find an available table. It is always full.
e. c.
Guaranteed a pleasurable experience, the open plan seating makes for vibrant atmosphere. The recent addition of food from their app makes choosing your food easier and quicker.
M. S.
Great place, loads of restaurants and good beer / wine selection. Anything from bao buns to tacos, to pizza, steak and fresh grilled fish.
K. L. (. L.
This is a great venue with an excellent mix of vendors who sell a variety of delicious meals and delectable drinks.
B. B.
This place is amazing. I make it a priority to stop here everytime i'm in Manchester. A wonderful selection of food vendors, great atmosphere and delicious brews.
S.
Perfect transplant of the old Grasshopper coffee house from Lancaster. Own roast quality coffee and knowledgeable service. Always a joy!
J. M.
Best sausage & egg bun I've ever had.
M. F.
Such a beautiful place with a great and vibrant vibe. Large choice of traders who all have amazing food
G. F.
Great place to try different cuisines!

Great place to eat. Really classy street food this
C. Y.
Fun, dramatic looking place with an exciting selection of eateries. The app used for ordering is slightly clunky, but our service and food were uniformly excellent. Highly recommended.
T. S. &. E. G. 1.
We tried every food stall and finished of with pale ale. Loved it. We wish there was one in every city. Went 17:00 til 19:00 and was fine for kids.
D. E.
Good chilled atmosphere and vast choice of food and drink
R. W.
Really great experience. £1 cover charge, for a bag with silverware, napkins, a box of water and place mats, so help with the social distancing and also the business itself. (Which I really enjoyed and think it's well worth it, don't be like the knobs tonight who didn't pay for it and then complains they god food down themselves!!!! - sorry mini rant over)
Food - excellent choice and wonderful noms.
Drinks - extensive and exciting choices
Atmosphere - chilled and warm.
Another great outing here. Very good for those who have picky friends.
D. C.
Great selection of beers, wines and gins and an even better selection of food. Loads of tables, always a nice atmosphere. Will definitely be going again
S. W.
Great selection of high quality food. Grass fed beef, sustainable fish, sourdough pizza and craft beer, all in a nice setting
M. H.
Nice building, good food, wine, light and atmosphere
J. B.
First visit, great food, slick service, great atmosphere
D. S.
Great food a unique eating experience
A. J.
First visit today with friends and I was very impressed with the selection of food, ales and coffee available. I like the conversion and the atmosphere inside and had a wonderful Bao.
E. P.
Ordered food from Mumma’s fried chicken which was incredible!! We also ordered some gyoza’s from New Wave ramen but they were really soggy and tasteless! Service was great and the staff were friendly. We saw a waitress drop a glass on the stairs which smashed and fell through the gap in the stairs into the kitchen below where the chefs acknowledged it but carried on without closing the kitchen to clean out the glass from the food! Other than that it’s a stunning venue and the app is really easy to use :)
E. P.
The food we had was really nice, I ordered from the Chinese (I forgot the name) and had a lovely tofu noodle dish.
Someone should really open a desert place here, it would make a killing as there's fairly limited deserts to order from anywhere.
C. A.
I love it here. Always a great range of food and drinks available. The new app for ordering is a bit glitchy though. Tried Mumma's fried chicken and a cocktail from Atkinsons!
R. B.
It's just alright. Food is served quick the beer selection is good. Seats are not too comfortable but I guess I'm just getting old
J. C.
Great atmosphere. Tasty food. Polite staff. Very busy.
L. H.
Great selection of food. Well priced and all tasted good.
Would recommend.
K. B.
So much choice a bit over priced but tasty no the less.
A. G.
Lovely place to meet family and or friends. Highly recommend 👌
J. S.
Such a fantastic place to each casually, with friends or just to pop in for a few drinks. I'll definitely be returning.
H. K. M. T.
I enjoyed the environment here and the hustle and bustle, but have to say the choices of food and drink were quite limited, and of quite average quality for the price being charged.
It's a shame really, as the space is very unique, and I like the idea of the concept and what they've done with it. Just a shame about the businesses within.
Z. K.
I was here on a aweekend trip. And this coffee shop is the perfect place to.unwind after a day in the city. The coffee is freshly grinded and served. Staff are great apart from the gentleman who served me asked me a silly question if I had a face mask or not... 🤔 didnt understand the whole thing so told him I was here to have a coffee
C. A.
Love this place, food was amazing and a range of drinks all brought to your table, just order on the app. The steak was cooked to perfection. Great if you fancy different food to the others in your party!
P. R.
Closes early which is surprising for a place serving food, some prices abit toppy...bouncers need to chill a little when moving people out of course we want to finish our food ;)
S. W.
Great food, awesome atmosphere, even the knob head bouncer couldn't have ruined it with his "do you not think I've got a home to go to" comment at 22:15
k.
Brilliant food and amazing place to eat
S. C.
It’s a beautiful venue and I love the vibe. The beer from Blackjack is amazing and there is a great selection of wine too. It loses a star because for me, although the food is good, it’s not quite good enough for the prices. You can definitely get better quality for those prices within a few minutes walk.
Still go though, it’s a great venue and the food is nice enough, just don’t expect it to knock your socks off.
H. C.
The best boa bun I’ve ever had
M. H.
Visited a few times but enjoying this gorgeous pizza and two pints of blackjack brewery beer was a definite highlight
K. S.
Just had a coffee. Next time we will try the food.Great atmosphere
J. B.
A really interesting venue. A lovely building with a varied selection of food with speedy service. Worth a visit.
J. S.
Such a fantastic place to each casually, with friends or just to pop in for a few drinks. I'll definitely be returning.

Great place to have a coffee, drink of choice, food or a good old chinwag 😁
K. L. (. L.
This is a great venue with an excellent mix of vendors who sell a variety of delicious meals and delectable drinks.
R. B.
The guys at Mumma's are actually magicians. Just incredible 👌
The Leo Lion burger was outstanding as were the wings and the jacket potato fries were also very good.
B. W.
Great atmosphere and range of food. Eaten from a few different places everything was nice! The building is really interesting, I believe it is an old market. You can order direct from food venders or on an app (the app makes it easy but can be glitchy).
T. B.
Nice place and atmosphere. Broad selection to satisfy all. Some of the foods are very expensive though
D. W.
Cool venue with loads of food & drink options.
L. A.
Great place, set up like a market with loads of stalls for food and drink. Wine was pricey but delicious
A. C.
Wish the menu changed a bit more but always got a buzz about it, great choice, lovely wine selection including British sparkling. Great conversion of a beautiful building. Could be better value as some items are a bit overpriced. Food stalls also should be accountable when they say they serve crispy chicken wings then bring you a plate of poorly microwaved luke warm jelly textured wings instead but this is not the venue's fault!
R. J.
Great coffee, atmosphere and tempting food.
J. S.
Phenomenal food beers and service. If you're nearby you must try this place. All food for everyone it's mint.
A. C.
This is a really great venue, it offers what seems to be the semi/permanent range of traders serving a range of fresh food. On offer when we were there whole grilled fish to stone baked pizza and a lot of choice in between. I got the fish finger butty from Fin which tasted amazing. Sat up on the balcony is great people (and food) watching. Choices for drink there is a ale/beer house, wine bar and coffee bar. Pretty busy but service quite quick. Good atmosphere.
B. C.
Great choice of food and drink.... Interesting venue which feels nice and spacious.
A. S. (.
Perfect for quick meals as most of the food is prepared in advanced to allow for speedy service. Good range of options. Contactless payment everywhere. Excellent for large groups as you can all order separately then the food is bought to the table when ready.
K. S.
Just had a coffee. Next time we will try the food.Great atmosphere
S. L.
Great food and atmosphere but also very expensive!
w. w.
Lots of choice on food and drink. It's a bit overly prices. Very unusual decor but seems to work well. Seating isn't the comfiest and it's incredibly busy on a Friday or Saturday evening. This is a large venue with lots of independent businesses under the same roof. Blackjack brewery had an amazing raspberry ripple cider when I was there.
T. B.
Nice place and atmosphere. Broad selection to satisfy all. Some of the foods are very expensive though
R. B.
The guys at Mumma's are actually magicians. Just incredible 👌
The Leo Lion burger was outstanding as were the wings and the jacket potato fries were also very good.

Trendy place and food and wine was very good
J. C.
Great place. Not a massive choice for breakfast on a Saturday morning. Coffee and cinnamon bun was delicious
C. F.
Great vibe, very organised and excellent food.
A. G. d. V.
Good place for drink or a quick tasty meal.
b. w.
Even on a busy Saturday night, found a table quickly. Great food and the wine shop has some real bargains
S. E.
Great coffee and nice staff! Been there many times and it was always good! Very nice atmosphere and interior too!
P. J. G.
An old Manchester meat market now hosting an eclectic mix of eateries from fish and chips to pizzas. Great food and great atmosphere but somewhat pricey
s.
A place of character and fizzing with atmosphere even with corona virus leaning into our lives. Here I find everyone's laid back and unpretentious anyway but of all the places I've visited they are handling our new normal seamlessly and calmly whilst maintaining an atmosphere that is enjoyable. It's in the best part of the city...the northern quarter.
H. W.
Love it, amazing food and drink
B. S.
A cool design, Top floor seating and bottom has a selection of food and drinks. Stylish place with a very nice vibe to it.
Food ranges from steaks,pizza,salad,seafood.
Drinks Wine bar is well stocked as is the beer and cider bar.
Great day out
G. J.
Great coffee and nice staff , I go at least twice a week and never disappointed
T. H.
Just incredible. The Alt.Eats app could do with some work, maybe allow ordering from certain vendors and update when they’ve accepted the order (instead of just removing the vendor from the list of available places to order from)
S. B.
Great place to hangout with family and friends! Just that food menu is not that good! Although it's decent and elaborative but taste wise! Ambience blew me away totally!!
Weekends are usually crowded.... But give a very lively vibes!
Beers, friends, cocktails and crowd = Mackie Mayor!!
p. c.
Nice place to chill in the afternoon. Didn't use the app, it was easier to nip to each stall and order there. Loved the chicken satay.
I. P.
Best place to eat ever!! Such an amazing concept I hope more places like this exist.
BANGING NACHOS
L. S.
I love this place! The idea of food and drink stalls in this big renovated industrial feel market hall works really well. Great when visiting with a group of people for food, because theres something for everyone - fish and chips from Fin was fantastic and a huge portion. We also ordered pizza from Honest Crust but they got our order wrong, we didnt complain though and although the topping wasn't our first choice it was very tasty! Only downside is it can get very busy and you sometimes battle for a table!
s. a.
Great food choice, good atmosphere. Well worth a visit !!
N. L.
This is an interesting venue for locals and tourists alike and a great place to meet people as everyone has to share trestle tables and it is necessary to get a seat and table number before ordering food from one of the many different food outlets. Beers, wines are sold from a separate area and include keg and cask options for beer lovers and plenty of choice for the wine and fizz drinkers.
It's not cheap but good and drinks at time of visit were of a high and very enjoyable standard.
B. S.
The coffee was fantastic and the staff were lovely and very helpful. A vey nice experience and Ill definitely visit again.
L. L.
Really cool concept for a place. Food hall with many different food vendors in and different bars for different drinks. You can also buy a sealed bottle of the wine you try by the glass and they have a lot of uniquely brewed wines and gins from distilleries all across Manchester and the country. Been a few times now and will definitely be back
C. T.
Great venue being in the old meat market, fine selection of food and drinks but the portions of food were small from the vendor I chose. Next time I'd use another food outlet. Choose wisely. Prices for drinks over and above other local outlets. I enjoyed the atmosphere and ambience.
R. B.
Wow! Great place. Try the Blackjack Brewery Bar!
M.
Food and service great. However initial contact and advice about app and what to do to register, order etc could have been explained better initially at door. Also we were a social bubble and should have been treated the same as a single household and allowed inside, but were not. I read guidance beforehand on gov.uk, advice is a bit confusing especially in media, but expected they would make sure before enforcement at door.
M. R.
Had the food from the Mexican place, very good
P. V. d. B.
Seems it used to be some sort of indoor meat market in the old days, and been transformed into a food hall. Have to say is successful because I do like the atmosphere and design of the place.
Craft beer offer while not various is quite good. And then the Food: well adding all the rest above, I confirmed will be coming back! :)
We came relatively early in the evening and I would advise doing the same. We noticed at some point many people waiting standing for a place at a table.
P. G.
Food court style eateries with individual serveries around the perimeter, communal seating in the centre. On the pricier side, I had a nice pizza, circa £12, plus a side of Olives (which were good value at £4.50). The pizza was nice, but was a bit portion controlled. Would I go again, probably, but not high on the list. Informal, and good for groups.
a. w.
Busy but fun and lots of choice
M. D.
Good place good variety to choose from and nice atmosphere
J. P.
Great venue to socialise with a variety or food and drink which is all fantastic
A. H.
If you're willing to wait for/wrangle a table, it's an absolute dream. I've been twice and each time we've had a variety of things from different places all to share. The food was delicious (the hanger steak is the best steak I've ever had and it was just as good both times) and the service is very speedy. The staff are friendly, polite and competent. Great atmosphere, beautiful building.
R. M.
I love this place. I went yesterday for first time when I was trying to go to a quiet place for a coffee. I had a ginger lemon brew there with my friend in the coffee bar and I enjoyed it. The restaurant is spacious and nice atmosphere but too noisy.
H. M.
What an amazing food hall. So many options, and the all of the variety of food that we tried was amazing. I can't wait to go back!
P. “. B.
A very unique place, unfortunately we didn't eat there and only had drinks but it appeared to offer an interesting variety of food and the bar certainly offered a good range of beers.
Kids and dogs also seemed welcome and with the array of seating arrangements a great venue for all kinds of parties and celebrations.
V. “.
Great place to meet work folk not met before so not aware of their preferences. This has something for all tastes! Just make sure you check your table number before you go and order food! Could do with a lift to the mezzanine level as my colleagues had reserved us a table that ended being up there and didn't know I had disability issues going up stairs. So going back and forth for drinks was difficult.
S. K.
Really nice atmosphere, staff were all very friendly and the food was superb!
A. H.
Great place, I went there mid afternoon on a Sunday and it was very busy, although not too busy to find seats. The selection of food is brilliant whether you just want a pizza or something more gourmet.
The beer selection is also brilliant with some great ipa's on tap
It's not cheap for food or drinks but you get past that pretty easily once you take the atmosphere in
H. B.
Superb food and great atmosphere and the prices are fair also, 10 out of 10
D. P.
Great open seating, always busy on a weekend with a trendy vibe and great food, at a bit of a premium price. They also have good facilities for kids with a little play area tucked under the stairs suitable for kids who can crawl and play without needing someone on top of them all the time.
M. L.
Didn't partake of the repast but menu looked varied and interesting. Chose a strong cider which was scrumptious. Unfortunately there weren't any dark cask ales on offer (other half has a penchant) so he partook of a blonde beer. Vast place, was pretty quiet when we frequented. Can imagine it rocking when it gets full!
L. M.
Nice place for food.no lager though
V. J.
Selection of restaurants in a converted warehouse, expensive, slow service
D. M.
Cool eatery with great choice of food and drink at reasonable prices.
L. C.
This place is astonishing, like an industrial dining room. Loads of places to sit, but nothing with arms, and mostly fold-up chairs, so you wouldn’t want to linger. Nice kids play area for small ones. Massive amounts of choice from several indie food kitchens, something to eat for every hour of the day. Pizza ovens looked like they meant business.
I went early on Saturday for breakfast, so it was very quiet, the music wasn’t overpowering, but it did get louder just as we left. Full of people with that volume of music it might get over-whelming.
I had coffee and a fresh blueberry muffin, yum.
Look forward to going back.
R. H.
This place is always on form, we have never left disappointed and have stopped going to some really excellent places because.. why have silver when you can have gold! Vegetarians are so well catered, and the staff are a delight. We come here all the time, we have tried pretty much all of the local curry places but none come close to the food here.
U. C.
Well, what can I say? Beautiful historic building with amazing independent food stalls to cater for all tastes and preferences. Loved the guest roast coffee. Would love to spend an entire Sunday there with friends putting the world to right.
J. R.
Nice concept. Bar for Beers was well staffed bit too small so queues where up to 10 mins at a time which knackers the experience up a bit. (This was 7-9 on a Saturday night)
Wine bar (and spirits) was quieter most of the time so you could walk up and get served within a min tops.
Would definitely go back again though.
M. B.
Amazing food, buzzing lovely atmosphere.
S. S.
Fabulous venue. Plenty of choice and fine local offerings. Highly recommended.
J. L.
Nice spot in the city but can be a bit over priced.
This is a really cool bustling spot to spend an afternoon. It has a market vibe to it and free seating so can take a bit of hustling to find seats when it's busy. The open court style to it creates a great atmosphere for gathering with many options of food. We had a few drinks which were reasonably priced, a pizza that was tasty and a bao bun. I would say the food is a touch on the expensive side, especially considering its more like a street food style service and most of the dishes are more expensive than you'd find in most of the neighbouring sit down restaurants in the area. The pizza was great, fresh and cooked really well but the bao bun was pretty poor if I'm honest. £12.50 for basically a small bun with two tiny pieces of pork, some cold potatoes, broccoli and coleslaw on the side!? Aside from that the place is pretty cool and worth a visit if you're in the area.
J. W.
Large restaurant in unexpected surroundings. Order yourself at various stalls with varied types of food. Then find a table and eat. Good good quality, great local ales and at least two coffee stalls for after dinner. The coffee stall I served did a good double espresso.
t. g.
After a bit of time I've finally had lunch at Mackie Mayor. Food and service was really great and quick. Very well organised regarding Covid-19 safety measures, felt OK while having my food. I recommend the place as something different to do when you are in town.
P.
Finally, we made it here. We'd passed on the way to other places a few times, and even made a special trip on a Monday, when it's closed - D'oh! So last night was the first to be tempted with food and drink, and it was worth the wait. Each individual company makes fab looking food, and the bits we had were as good as any of our favourites. Jugs of water on the tables are constantly topped and replaced. The wine bar looked intruiging, but the beer bar had 8 pumps, so had enough for me to pick one.
A. W.
Straightforward app and quick mid-afternoon service
S. A.
Excellent location and seating. Beautiful authentic building and plenty of space. Good choice of drinks and coffees. However, the food let's the place down; street food that is expensive but of poor standard. still a nice acevto go out.
L. G.
Really cool vibe and amazing food! A little bit on the pricey side but a cool place to take visiting friends :)
K. G.
Something for everyone here! Prices are very steep but it’s definitely the place to be and be seen. Fun for everything from lunch to drinks or dinner and there’s a lovely café making beautiful coffees. A very easy place to take friends from out of town or go on a fun date.
J. W.
Awesome re-use of an historic building, a great addition to Manchester's Northern Quarter.
Superb bustling vibe as soon as you enter the building with different food serving stations around the perimeter and long communal type tables/benches in the centre.
Great to go as a group or to be socable with other diners; not so if looking for somewhere for an in depth chat.
Slightly odd that we had to order food from one section and drinks from another but it was quality and we enjoyed it ~ just don't try and park around there, parking spaces are at a premium 😊
L. B.
Great selection of food and drink in the heart or the northern quarter
L. D.
Really great atmosphere with an abundance of food and drink options. My favourite place to go to in Manchester. Would recommend!
M.
Great to see good ingredients being championed. It’s essentially a hipster food court with many artisanal choices in a typically industrial setting. Prices are on the expensive side - £13 for some fish and chips, albeit very nice fish and chips. Not a fan of long tables and sharing the space with others, but If you like that sort of thing then this will be right up your street!
J. D.
What a choice! Lots of different vendors of beers/cocktails and food! I love the layout but in summer it can get really hot inside. The gallery like seats at the top are really nice when they are open. This is definitely a place where people bring their friends and relatives who are visiting Manchester.
P. M.
Really cool place for eating street food of various types. Quick service (via app - we ordered from multiple different cuisines).
K. l.
Very trendy vibe of different artisan food kiosk vendors serving a variety of excellent food and drink. Great for large groups as communial eating but also separate tables for a smaller bunch of people.
Well worth a visit. Some say overpriced but food is quality and the place is constantly packed i think that speaks volumes.
P. T.
Despite COVID-19, still a great place to go and enjoy a meal. You'll need to download an app where you'll order your food and drinks but it works very well and not long to wait. Highly recommend.
W. N.
Really expansive range of locally brewed craft beers on tap. The setup is like a big beer and food hall which means you can go as a group and more than likely have everyone's whims covered. Or you can go for a drink and decide what to eat when you get there. The food is high quality nosh. Very contemporary. They are clearly using fresh produce here and they use it really well. Love this place.
