The food and wine here was very good. It is not overly expensive although there were no prices on the menu which I found strange. Service was very good although I didn't like the way the senior waiter / manager tried to push a more expensive wine on me a couple of times after I had made my choice. Needless to say I stuck with my original choice. Don't let that put you off but be aware of it. The restaurant is worth visiting

This. This is a proper Indian restaurant. The lamb shank is huge and extremely tender & tasty. Can't fault it. The lobster starter with mango. Wow! Beautiful... The prawn curry. SPICY!!!!! But oh so good. Service is impeccable. I'll be back.. fantastic!!!!!

For mains, we ordered Lamb shank kashmiri rogan josh and Handi lazeez (chicken). They were delicious, and I really recommend the lamb shank for meat lovers. We were given complementary ice cream at the end, which was a very good touch from them. Speaking of which, the staff were very friendly, and they showed very good hospitality.

In Newcastle on business and after eating at Simla once, we wanted to come back again! A lively and fun environment with top notch service and fantastic food. Plenty of delicious vegetation options and just the right level of spice (though they’re happy to adjust to your liking). On the first visit, they brought a complimentary side dish to try, this time they offered us a free drink because it’s pouring down rain outside and we have to walk back to the hotel. Personable service, consistently crowded with satisfied patrons, there are plenty of reasons to come to Simla. And to return time and again. Excellent!

Good quality food, excellent customer service ( apart from being watched and stood next to at the end of our meal, as they wanted our table. They should have just let us know the table was needed, rather than making us feel uncomfortable ). The 3 people I went with would give this either 4/5 stars, and they all loved their food. I chose Murgh Malbari Maharaja for my main. The roast chicken was really bland, and the skin and meat was quite tough. The sauce was a very basic coconut cream sauce too so I was quite disappointed. They served it in a small bowl, so I had no where to put the rice. The naan breads were steaming hot and very fresh, they were delicious. I dont think what we got justified the amount we paid. I decided to let my hair down ( without checking price! ) and didn't realise until the end of the meal that 2 Gin cocktails cost me just under £20. Lovely drinks with candy Floss on top, but tasted no gin in them. Poppadoms were £4.50 and the equivalent of 3 poppadoms broken up in a bowl were provided to us with a mango sauce, yogurt sauce and a pineapple chutney. We love onion salad and lime pickle, so we were surprised and disappointed these weren't provided. You can buy lime pickle but we didn't realise that until we had finished. As there was 4 people on our table, we were given 2 of these so we were charged £9. I wouldn't recommend. Portion sizes are small-medium. I also personally felt that there wasn't much to choose from. I'm sure my 3 friends will return but I don't think I will.

Simla is a true gem! The food is very authentic, the flavours are complex, presentation is appetizing, and the overall service is incredible. I can’t recommend this place enough. The gin cocktails are very well balanced and compliment the richness of the bites perfectly. The chicken tikka masala and the lamb Biryani were perfect! And the pakoras were a hit as well! Will be coming back soon!

Excellent Indian cuisine and superb service. We were almost immediately seated upon arrival on an extremely busy Friday night, having made reservations, and promptly asked if we'd like drinks while looking through the menu. I ordered Lamb Shank Rogan Josh while my wife got a shrimp curry dish. Both were exceptional. Highly recommend Simla, celebrating their 40th year anniversary that night. Reservations also highly recommended.

Absolute little hidden gem! I can't recommended Simla enough! Small menu but everything is cooked to perfection! The pineapple chutney on the pickle tray is to die for, and the Lamb Shank main- best lamb I've eaten! Fell apart in my mouth! Great portions and full of flavour! Delicious! Awesome, they found space for us without a booking. I had the vegetarian starters and small mains. They were all flavoursome and light. My husband had the Hot chicken curry and said it was excellent. We booked late, but managed to get a table at 20:30. (The restaurant was full when we arrived, but thinned out as early diners left.) The service was very friendly and helpful. We thoroughly enjoyed the Lamb Biryani and the Chef's Special Prawn Curry. The spicing and flavours were excellent.

Had a lovely meal over the jubilee weekend, the staff couldn't have been more polite or helpful. They gave us recommendations and were so friendly. The food was delicious, and it came pretty quickly. This restaurant is a firm favourite of my family, the atmosphere is great as is the decoration of the restaurant. The customer service is among the best I have had as the staff are welcoming and very friendly. All of the menu items I have had are amazing and I try something different each time I visit. Highly recommended Simla to all! Also they do some amazing gins, we tried the pool gin and unicorn tears.

What a little gem of a restaurant this is, our friends recommend this to us, as it was our first ever trip to Newcastle and we wouldn't have known where to start, as there are so many eating places on offer. It's based right at the very bottom of Grey Street on Side/under the bridge as you head towards the Quayside. Waiters are all very pleasant and the menu offers a small but great choice. My partner ordered the chili chicken to start with and I can ended up eating half of his portion as once I tasted it, I wanted more! I opted for the kahari chicken which was amazing and my partner chose the lamb madras. He loved it but said it was the hottest madras he had ever had so order if you like your curry hot hot hot. Great value for money and would highly recommend 👌

Posh Indian. If you want huge portions at bargain prices, look elsewhere. This is more "fine dining". Menu has things I've never seen before. Everything was delicious and beautifully cooked and presented. Only negatives would be the very few wines by the glass (mostly full bottles only) and tables are quite crammed in. But I left well satisfied, not bloated. It was packed out on a Tuesday night, so other punters agree!

This was just what we needed to end a lovely night at the theatre. The food was amazing. The tastes and the lightness of the curries were of a high standard. One of the curries we had was Chingri Malai curry. It was divine, one of the tastiest curries I have ever eaten. We had been recommended this restaurant on the evening of our first day exploring Newcastle and thought we would give it a go, on arrival it was very busy with no free table however the waitress was brilliant and managed to fit us in. Everything about this place was perfect. The food was just incredible; everything we ordered was some of the best Indian food we’ve ever had. It was great having sections of the menu dedicated to vegetarian foods. We visited this restaurant on Sunday 20th Sept for a meal for my birthday. The food was amazing. I ordered lamb tadka which when I tasted it, was delicious but a bit spicy for me. When the waiter realised this as I hadn't ate much of it he simply asked if I wud like something else instead which was very gracious of him as this was what I chose so he didnt have to change it for me. He then came back with butter lamb which was again incredible. I would HIGHLY RECOMMENDED this restaurant as food and staff were amazing

Possibly the best Indian food I've ever eaten in my life. The portions were good so be sure to have a good appetite going. It was welcoming and clean and warm. The service was great too, and the guys that worked there were really friendly and chatty. They told us the restaurant has been going since 1981. It's been newly refurbished and personally I really love the style of it.. Not to mention the beautiful paintings hanging on the walls that we were told came all the way from from Pakistan. There was good wheelchair access and an appropriate accessible toilet. It's also close to some decent pubs if you fancied some after dinner beverages. Definitely will come back next time we are in Newcastle.

What a fantastic meal. So enjoyable. The specialist menu is 1st class. Not catering for the masses, but catering for the discerning diner who really enjoys properly prepared fresh food. We hadn't booked but the staff took our no for the waiting list, so we went away for a drink then within 10 mins they'd called to say a table was now available. All the staff were exceptionally friendly and attentive, but not the hovering or interrupting type, more discreetly attentive which is so much nicer. The restaurant is kept immaculately clean. Tables cleaned thoroughly and floor swept between table sittings. Really... We can't praise Simla and their team highly enough. Don't believe it? Just go and see for yourself.

Highly recommended! I used to go here 40 years ago after last orders on a Friday night.In those days last orders was 10.30pm so I suppose it was early going to a restaurant. Anyhow I couldn't really remember the interior but the curries were spot on. This visit the food was excellent, not a huge overfacing menu which is a bonus. One of the best dining experiences we have ever had. The atmosphere was excellent, the owners and staff attentive but without being too fussy. When we arrived Simla was very busy and as we hadn't booked there wasn't a table available straight away. We were asked if we would like to come back in half an hour to which I'm so glad we said yes. The food was beautifully cooked and tasted so amazing. We left Simla full of great food and with a desire to return. The only problem we have is that it's 130 mile away from home.

We came in a half hour before they closed and they still let us come in. And the staff were so incredibly welcoming and nice. And the food was really good as well. It has good ambiance and is a great place to get a late dinner and glass of wine. They even gave us a glass on the house. The food is excellent albeit a bit on the pricey side. They got our order wrong, I ordered lamb but got chicken instead. I didn't send it back because who wants to wait when everybody else has their meal? They got our drinks order wrong and to top it off tried charging us for stuff they were supposed to take off the bill. It was sorted amicably but we felt this shouldn't have happened. Would we go back? Definitely yes but they need to do better.

Lovely intimate restaurant with very beautiful decor, paintings and chandeliers. The place has a very comforting vibe and I felt so cozy in here. Despite it being busy on a Saturday evening, the service was great and the staff were all very lovely. Now on to the most important part, the food. Good selection on the menu: I would recommend their poppadoms which comes with 3 homemade chutneys, my favourite being the mango but the rest of my group preferred the pineapple and carrot. The pakora was really nice and crispy just how I like them, and the chilli paneer was also really good!

Once our food was brought to the table that was it for us, not 1 member of staff returned to ask if we wanted anything else (which I did) or to ask if the food was ok. I also finished my first drink when I had my starter and was not asked if I wanted another (which I did) as there was just no one on the main floor to ask or catch anyones attention. I took my girlfriend to Simla. We got a really warm welcoming when we first arrived, the deco is beautiful inside and very cosy. The service from the staff are second to none, they are very polite and very friendly. The staff also made sure you didn't want for nothing. Had an absolutely fantastic time for my son's 21st, there was a party of 10 of us. from the moment of booking staff were brilliant, extremely helpful and couldnt do enough to make our visit memorable, food was out of this world. 1st time at this restaurant but it most definitely won't be our last. Couldn't recommend it enough.
