Reviews of Thai House Cafe Newcastle

An authentic thai restaurant run by a friendly thai lady boss. She said the theme of the restaurant is making people feel like visiting her house and enjoy her home cooked food which is the meaning of the name of the restaurant(Thai House Cafe). I also heard that all the chefs are ladies! How amazing! It’s like moms cooking dinner for guests 😂
During my first visit, my girlfriend was wondering if they do pineapple fried rice as she’s been craving it so much and we didn’t quite see it in the UK. We were lucky enough to meet the lady boss on our first visit and got her phone number to order pineapple fried rice! She was so kind and nice to offer us such a special order!
Even though their prawns were a little bit overcooked on most of the dishes but the overall taste was very authentic and delicious! Probably they could put more work on cooking the seafood but everything else were good. Love their tom yum! You guys should really try that one! We will definitely come back for more! Staffs were nice and friendly as well!
Oh ya and one more thing is I find their thai tea was not quite authentic and not really good, it’s just sweet and not much taste of the tea. Hopefully they could make improvement on that!

📍Thai House Café, Newcastle (Thaihouse Newcastle)
When a Thai local person vouches for a Thai shop, that's a definite good start. And that's exactly what happened to us; a doctor from Thailand recommended this spot to us.
With a 4.6 star Google rating with 300 reviews, I was really looking forward to fixing my Thai food craving 🌶️
We came twice in a row. On our visit, I noticed that many patrons here were Thai people, conversing in their very own dialect. That's a testament of the authenticity of the cuisine. The owner happened to be there, who is a most friendly Thai lady.
🍜We ordered vegetarian Pad Thai. Delicious. Spicy, with the noodles not over-cooked and with the right consistency. The tofu complemented by the pickled chilli slices with peanuts, and the beansprouts; just perfect. Add in some Chilli Flakes and Lime for the kick. The Thai way would be to add some sugar in the dish, in which the owner showed us how to. We thoroughly enjoyed our Pad Thai.
🍛Our other experience there was on a Saturday night with friends; it was bustling with life, filled to the brim with patrons.
I enjoyed the beef with garlic & rice - tender, rich with spring onions and other herbs. Friends of mine had the signature Tom Yam with vermicelli.
🌶️My personal winner is the Pad Thai! We're definitely coming again when we have a Thai Food craving. There's so many dishes here I have yet to try out.

The food is good. I ordered a chicken satay and a fish ball noodles and a Thai milk tea
But the environment are not child friendly
And the waiter are very cold to me. He is super nice to the girls next table go talk to them and offer them lots of sauces and they just put me in a corner with my son and they only accept cash but I don’t have so I use the hungry panda app to order the food.
And even my son (1 year old) looking at him smiling laughing his face are super cold not even say hi and just look away, several times
But the waitress are nice.
Anyway I just feel like I’m not welcoming there and have to eat fast and just go.

Food was amazing, the best Thai food I've had in the UK it was lovely. The cook came out to see if people were enjoying their food and I thought thay was a lovely touch. Cannot wait to return very soon.

Pork Leg was fabulous, would highly recommend. For Thai Pad, couldn’t taste anything but sweet. Ordered prawn Tom yum and hot milk tea but got the chicken Tom yum and cold milk tea. Staff were friendly.

Nice place and staff here. Think I made the wrong choice with my order as it wasn't great at all but everyone I was with loved it. Meal was super bland and wasn't tasty at all. Tried a few of my friends meals and they were really nice but think I just ordered the worst thing on the menu. Number 30. Wouldn't order this as wasn't great. Thai curry was really good though.
P. M.
Some authentic looking dishes but not fantastic quality. The portions however, were very generous. Staff were really pleasant and helpful. Covid measures were really good apart from the cash only payment.
W. T.
I’m obsessed, sooooo good and the spice is just on point, will definitely come back for the lovely pork leg 🥺. Brilliant service as well
M. L.
Very authentic Thai food. Very delicious. We asked for spicy and we were catered for. Cosy little cafe with friendly staff. Highly recommend
N. S.
The food was really great and the portions were big too, definitely a good price for the amount of food you get, i’d recommended Tom Yum Goong.
YUMMY!

I love this place, super authentic and will dull down the spice if you are not Thai.
Some dishes can be very spicy and they take this unit account when you place an order.
The little unknown gem about this place is that every Sunday, they have a table put aside with lots of different Thai street food you take out like a market table.
You can get different things every time you come as its different every week. From super sweet Thai deserts to adventurous deep fried insects, chicken feet and pigs ears.... Don't knock it until you've tried it.
If you want something authentically Thai this is the place
.. Its not a chain
... Its the real deal
D. L.
Absolutely fabulous and authentic Thai food. Very attentive service. No bookings but we walked straight in. And BYOB if you like. Thoroughly recommend!
A. A.
The best Thai place in Newcastle. We bring everyone to try their food and its our favorite place for food. Nice size portions and very tasty. Great menu it can cover every appetite. When they say it's hot it IS which is great since I love their spicy food. Good for families and singles.

Thai house cafe Newcastle is now reopened after the owner went back form Thailand. Variety of authentic thai food with full of aromatic herbal flavour are served here. As I am a Thai, I would say that the food here are real Thai and doesn't like other Thai restaurants in UK where the the food are adapted to favor the local customers by reducing spiciness or adding more sweetness.
The chefs and the staffs are very friendly. I have been feeling as I were home in Thailand everytime having the food from here. 🇹🇭🇹🇭😋😋😊😊

Cash only
But the pork rice is the best
S. S.
Thai fish cake good, papaya salad good ,no dried shrimps? Very small portion for £10.95 for a small salad. Wow.then grilled beef slices covered in chilli this was excellent, wow this blew me away it took me back to thailand.£10.95 worth every penny then £2..50 for rice.Original thai food for sure, but £30.35 for your lunch in a cafe is to expensive. And No card machine ,to pay had to walk 10 minutes to get cash.i will go back but not £11 for a small salad ?this will not be ordered.Returned last week had a great meal for lunch.lovely friendly staff 4 star this time.cheers
S. L.
Superb fresh Thai food. Jungle Curry WOW!!!
Blows your socks off.
Very reasonable price and excellent service.

Walked in to a wall of the delicious smells that reminded me of being back in Thailand. The food was absolutely delicious - the best Thai food I've eaten in the UK.
A. W.
Some of the best Thai food I’ve ever eaten! A hidden gem with lovely staff ☺️
L. H.
SO GOOD! I never write reviews but this is the best Thai food I’ve had. Lovely service and nice atmosphere too
m. K.
If you want to sample authentic Thai food, this is it. Simple relaxed no frills setting , the food does the talking. Even the local Thais recommend this place, so you know it's the real deal. Some of the specials on offer here you won't find in other 'Thai restaurants' in the area. Staff are friendly too!
P.s unless changed recently its cash only.
M. C.
First visited 17th September 2016 on the recommendation of a friend who'd been a couple of times, and have since been back several times, most recently in May 2017.
The staff were amazing... A young lady named Fern was running front of house, and did a brilliant job of going from having only a couple of tables occupied to then turning people away because it became so busy! As we went through the drinks menu, she gave us a couple of sample drinks, one of the Thai whisky (not unlike rum, to a degree), as well as a vodka-based infusion of herbs and spices. The menu was explained in great detail, and although there was a slight language barrier, she really was an absolute star at every single point. If I could rate on the staff alone, it's 5 star review across the board here!
Now the food?, Well that's something special in itself... Everything is cooked to order, and turns up at the table when it's ready, which gives everyone in your party (and other tables) plenty of time to get a case of food envy as things turn up.
My choice tonight was black egg, stir fried in pork mince and chilli with thai basil, served with steamed sticky rice. Wow. The black egg was something I’d not tried before, and is basically the Thai equivalent of a Chinese 1000 year egg. Although it may look a little strange to Western eyes, it’s definitely something you should try, and I’ll definitely be having it again.
The amount of food chosen was spot on overall, and Fern was great in recommending the right amount for us to order.
Quite simply the best Thai place in Newcastle. Food is amazing, prices are great, staff are great and everything’s spot on.
One thing to keep in mind is that it’s cash only, however there are a couple of cash machines within walking distance. Please don’t let that dissuade you though.
Go now, and make sure you feast like a king!
UPDATE: We've been here a few times now, and it's absolutely the best, and most authentic Thai place in town, if not the area as a whole.
Everything is prepared and cooked as it comes, and there's not a dish on the menu I wouldn't eat (and won't, given enough visits).
Particular favourite of mine is the black egg dish with pork, which is absolutely amazing...
Miss this place and you're missing a slice of perfection.
N. H.
I have tried many Thai restaurants in Newcastle and I would say that Thai House serves you authentic Thai food. I really recommend Tom Yum Goong and Pla Nueng Manow if you are spicy-food lover. The owner is very friendly. Price is around £10 in average.
N. H.
A small but authentic thai place. The food is nice and staff are friendly too. Highly recommend
O. T.
Best Thai in Newcastle without a doubt! Authentic food and the most welcoming staff.
a. g.
Fantastic food, authentic Thai food, great quality, excellent customer service.
I. H.
🌟 Big portions. Two friends and I ordered three mains & soup and couldn’t finish any of them & have to take away then. 🤣
🌟 Some tasty dishes such as Tom Yum Soup & Pork & Rice (sauced pettitoes). However not all dishes are quality.
🌟 Quick service & friendly staff. The place is not very spacious.
🌟 Reasonable prices. A good choice of a quick lunch.
❕Cash Only.
A. V.
Nice little and very authentic restaurant. The food taste just like it should, confirmed by my Thai friend, who recommended the place to me.
They have quite extensive choice in the menu with very affordable price range. The service is prompt and friendly, they even made a couple of things for us which weren't in the menu (like for example, warm Thai tea instead of icy one).
I can't wait to go back there!
B. G.
A homey, wonderful place with excellent food. One of my favourite restaurants in Newcastle and does these incredible excellent large dishes. The one pictured is recommended for four people and costs £50, but there are even larger dishes for £100 (you'll need to book for those)
d. m. v.
I recommended this place for people who love Thai or Asia food because tasty & value of money.
Friendly and faster service.
Have toilet in this restaurant.

I'm a big fan of Thai cuisine. Having lived in Bangkok has taught me to appreciate the simplicity and complexity of thai cooking.
I bumped into this place while finding for an Asian restaurant for lunch.
Simple restaurant. Nothing over the top. Pretty straight forward to order and waitress was helpful. Although I had the Pad Kra Pau which is the minced pork with basil and egg. They made it just like how you'd get in Bangkok. I had goosebumps! It was a little too spicy I have to admit but over the years I guess my tolerance for chilli has got worst but I still finished it! I suffered but I loved it!
This place is probably the most authentic Thai food you can get. 9/10.
S. S.
First time ever tried Thai food. Food was nice, good ambiance, staffs are well behaved.
L. Y. W.
The garlic fish was absolutely spot-on! Always fresh and authentic.
Very friendly staff as well, enjoyed every bit of this cafe.
You’ve just earned a regular customer!
D. C.
So delicious. Order No 1 (pork leg stew) and never look back. You will thank me. 😋

We were delighted to see it finally reopen
it's our absolutely favourite restaurant in Newcastle. Authentic Thai food owned by Thai people. We have tried many Thai restaurants and nothing compares to this locally. We have been going here for years it's our go to bring our friends to have amazing meal.
We tried a lot of dishes, the padthai is fragrant and their pork leg stew special is something you shouldn't miss out on. They have wide variety of dishes for more adventures and a lot of vegetarian options, you just have to ask 😊
B. C.
Tom yum soup was the best I've had in the UK. Super friendly service and great food.
M. D. (.
The food was delicious! My friend - Nat has recommended to eat here, I’m happy that I followed him! Thanks to the staff for a good service and high quality food!
m. o.
Some of the best Thai food I've ever had, and I've spent a month trqvelling Thailand. By far my favourite restaurant in Newcastle.
E. F.
Happened upon this place when we were looking for something to eat before a gig and all I can say is WOW! From walking through the door to leaving, everything was spot in. The food is beautiful, best Thai I've eaten and we honestly can't wait to go back.
Beautiful hidden gem with lovely staff!
E. K. C. S.
Normal price for far south East asia cuisine. Enjoying the take away food. The food still taste good even I reached home in 30 minutes without any mess of gravy splitting all around. Is a nice place for craving for Thai food. 👍
D. D.
Outside of cafe looks a bit rough ,tables sticky needs wiped more thoroughly, small area for eating in ,Plenty of food on plate ,just not flavoured enough for me ,also they bring starters and mains together ,so feel a bit rushed,
R. M.
The best place for authentic thai street food. Fairy priced, rapid service and deliciousssssaaa
s. w.
Nice food and nice service.
Cash only. 💷💷💷💷💷
E. I.
It's a real Thai restaurant with the original taste. The staff is very friendly. A really good experience. I will come again😊🙏
D.
Came where for lunch, thought it was better than some of the food I had in Thailand
Great staff and reasonably priced, just wish I had somewhere as good where I'm from.
Y. S.
The food is authentic Thai flavour, good service, very friendly staff. Definitely come back again.
j. m.
Authentic, tasty and brilliant cheerful service. We will be back😋👌
G. P.
The food was great and the staff were really nice. My wife and I have been to a few Thai restaurants in Newcastle. The food in this one is definitely the most authentic. Be prepared for stuff you may not normally see in “westernised“ Thai restaurants. For example they leave the heads on the battered prawns. Good portion sizes, very reasonable prices and very tasty. When we went it was cash only, i’m assuming it still is, so be aware of that before you order.
J. M.
If you like Thai food then you won't be disappointed, this place is brilliant and the food is gorgeous. We will definitely be going back.
S. P.
Hands down the best Thai restaurant in town, if not in the UK! The food is so authentic and not overly sweet like so many other restaurants. The owner is super lovely - she always takes care of the students so well. The price is more than reasonable considering the massive portion and the wonderfully tasty dish. I’ve moved from Newcastle not long ago and already plan to just pop back up to visit the restaurant again
C. U.
Real taste of Thai food in UK, so far the best I have tried very nice food, definitely I will recommend it to anyone !!!!!! ☺️
K. B.
Fantastic food. Took me right back to Thailand
S. F.
The Thai cuisine served here is the best I've tasted outside of Thailand. Staff are warm. It's a place I missed during the lockdown.
H. D.
Excellent service. Great Thai food
P. O.
Excellent Thai restaurant, the best in north east England. Very popular among the Thai students here and one of the very best places to eat in Newcastle. They call it a cafe, and it is quite small, but it's comfortable and with a restaurant menu with a wide variety of dishes and lovely staff who can give you good recommendations. They don't serve alcohol but you can bring your own drink with no corkage charge. Also it's a lovely bright spot for lunch during the day and it's a nice atmosphere in the evenings when it can get quite busy around the weekend. Unlike most places here, they don't play music - which is very welcome. Highly recommended.
M. K.
Authentic Thai food with good quality and personal touch. Highly recommended!
B. C.
Humble setting yet serves the tastiest keow teow soup!! I love this place!! I'll come here again in future!! 👍🏼👍🏼
R. R.

Love this place! Staff so welcoming and friendly, can't do enough for you. Food is delicious 😋 can't wait to visit again.
S. T.
I’m a student at Northumbria University. I had dinner with my mom last night. I had papaya salad and glass noodle seafood spicy salad. It was wonderful meal, exactly Thai traditional food, well cooked with good fresh ingredients and reasonable price. Thank you very much for taking such wonderful care of us. This restaurant was homely.
Y. J.
Authentic Pork Leg on Rice the souce is great season on point

I have been to more than 20 Thai restaurants in uk and I can definitly say that Thai house cafe Newcastle is one of the top Thai restaurants in uk. They provide an authentic and quality Thai foods. The service and price are also nice. I will definitely come back here again if I have chance to visit Newcastle. Highly recommend this place !!!
R. W.
A stunning meal - we had pad Thai, red chicken curry, papaya salad and chicken satay. Slightly too much for two people but soooo worth it. Delicious meal cooked to order and really flexible with gluten free options (means a lot to us coeliacs!)
F. W.
Super delicious even better than those Thai restaurants in Hong Kong. Definitely will visit again 😋😋😋
P. K.
Good food setting and good taste feeling like eating at home.
S. C.
I am a student , here is my favourite place as, provide authentic taste of Thai and give big portion. The staff is fantastic as well as food. The price is reasonable for both student and all customer.
M. W.
Our 2nd visit to the Thai House Cafe and again it was absolutely wonderful, the food is just amazing, it's a family run place and you are made to feel really welcome. Many thanks 10/10 👍We will definitely be back.
G. K.
Excellent Thai and authentic food by lady boss Khun Toom. We had the basil pork, fish cake and Tom yum soup. Fish cake was home made better than in Bangkok! Cozy place highly recommended !
N. S.
Great service and absolutely delicious food. Seems a whole level above other Thai restaurant in the area, really authentic and flavoursome. Highly recommend
L. M.
The service was amazing and quick and friendly. The food was excellent and super awesomely delicious. The price is perfect for the food quality and size as well. I will come back again as there were loads of other dishes that I want to try.

Newly opened at Thai House Newcastle July 2016 (taking over from Mr Bing) - I visited on Friday 15th July 2016 with friends. We had a variety of starters & mains, I personally had the red prawn curry - fantastic! The service is great & the owners are extremely friendly. One to watch, highly recommend.
C. K. L.
blink and you might miss this nice little cafe/thai restaurant tucked away at clayton street- they serve authentic thai food!
After passing by a few times, i finally decided to give it a go.
Took my first step in, and i was greeted by such gracious thai hospitality
The staff were tremendously friendly and welcoming. +1
Ordered the sea bass and noodle soup, the food is rich in flavour and reminded me of home! The fish was fresh and appetizing (boss said she gets her seafood fresh and none of those frozen stuff) with the right amount of sweetness and heat.
To my delight and surprise, the noodle portion was quite big and equally flavourful. Well balanced sourness, sweetness and saltiness.
If you like spicy food as much as i do, you 'd be glad to know that their chilli paste and vinaigrette are homemade and can be quite hot.
amazing food reminding me of thailand and home
For all the spicy/thai/general food lovers and people from SEA,i would say this is now my favourite food hunt in Newcastle by a mile.
L. W.
Got a delivery tonight from the Thai House Cafe. The portions were huge. Pad Thai was delicious. Would definitely recommend.
P. T.
OK. Thai diners a good sign but my Thai companion was unimpressed.
Perhaps better next time.
E. V.
Low key, delicious food. Only alcohol is beer which seems fine. Seems to be authentic and home made. A bit bright but hey ho. Lovely sauces which seem to have been made by someone just before the shift. Friendly service. Really pleased to have found it.
h. w.
We eat here nearly every time we shop in Newcastle at a weekend. Definitely home style food and not restaurant style, but it's always great, or we wouldn't keep going back, and there are several other Thai restaurants within a 10 minute walk.
k. B.
I am a student, study at Northumbria University. First time I arrived Newcastle, I find Thai restaurant and I’ve found best Thai street food’ Thai House Cafe Newcastle’. The original testy Thai food with thai ingredients and style. Very recommend to you all to try and new experience with Thai food in UK. :)
O. P.
The Best Thai food in town. Pork leg stew on rice , this is my favourite dish and also my family favourite as well. Must try this one here at thaihouse Newcastle
A. S.
Lovely staff accommodated a large party in a small establishment. Good tasty food and didn't wait too long for service. BYOB service could do with a few extra wine glasses but apart from that we couldn't fault it. Many thanks xx

A. W.
I went there with my friend and both of us ordered Pad Thai. The food was delicious, however, understanding the menu may be a bit tricky since there are no explanations about the food. Overall, definitely gonna visit there again sometimes
A. B.
Absolutely authentic Thai food in a low key and relaxed setting.
You don't often see Thai customers in Thai restaurants, but here you do.
T. Y.
Delicious and authentic Thai food that I ever have! Phai Thai (Thai style fried noodle) the best in town! Besides, their Tom yum also very delicious!
M. R.
They serve Thai food though not so authentic. The portions are big. It is a small cozy place.
A. A.
Great authentic thai food from varies type of dishes. Recommended dish pad thai, tom yum, pla nung ma now, and more. From spicy food to less spicy.
G. B.
Good food, varied menu with normal chinese staples but also some great food you won't find in your average takeaway - would really recomend the braised beef noodle. Reasonably priced & a bit different from most of the other places at this end of town. Would recomend it for lunch
T. G.
Freshly prepared tasty food. Would recommend.
J. F.
The food was great and the flavours were exceptional. The waitress we had was not particularly nice but this doesn't bother me as the food is here is the star of the show!
P. J. S.
Staff are very nice and kind. The service is quite slow. Most menus have authentic Thai taste.
