Expect a warm welcome on arrival, ideally situated a very short walk from a few hotels in the area and I can assure you they serve much better food. I ordered the mixed grill and as a big eater I was ready for the challenge but was really struggling at the end. The steak was cooked just how I’d ordered, sausages very nice with the nice addition of black pudding and a beef burger that really makes a mixed grill for me. Everything was lovely and I had no room for dessert although they looked amazing. Prices very reasonable for the size of the portions and the staff couldn’t do enough to ensure everything was to my standard. I was pleased to see they had two locally produced real ales on my visit which seemed well kept. I will certainly be visiting again.

Amazing visit today! My dad wanted to visit with it being his birthday. We booked in advance and the table was perfect. The staff were attentive, friendly and funny, and the food was beautiful! It arrived maybe 10 minutes after ordering, piping hot and delicious. As a veggie, trying to find a good Sunday roast can be tricky, but it was beautiful (I had the nut roast), although looking at the beef on everyone else’s plates, I could have been tempted! Great prices and great atmosphere! Do not overlook!!!

I really liked this place, beat my expectations by a long way. Food was really good. My rump steak was great flavour and cooked exactly how I wanted it, £13 for rump steak that good and tasty was great. Pizza and pasta also was good. The staff were friendly and helpful and you did not have to wait to be served. Its somewhere I would go again if I was in the area. It was a Thursday evening and was busy but a table was found for us, it could get really busy here at times I would imagine!

I would highly recommend this local family owned restaurant. Very warm welcome on arrival. Food was delicious. Two people in our party said the garlic mushrooms were the best starter they had ever had! Steak fajitas were amazing also. Portion sizes were great, and good value for money. We ended up in The Skiff Inn after a late check-in at the Holiday Inn, to have a diner with the kids. The steak must be the best I had in the last few years. Incredible service by the super friendly staff. The kids were given toys to play with by Joe himself. And the friendly waitress gave them a lolly as she noticed the kids being dead tired by the long journey. I’ll definitely be back whenever traveling from Belgium to Scotland.

Lovely steak and chips. Chicken Kiev spot on so big the wife couldn't eat it, my steak didn't touch the sides. Only problem was a group of really load men sat in the corner and the staff never said a thing. Probably a one off, but spoilt the meal

Recently, and after absence of over two years, my wife and I visited Newcastle/Gateshead for a few days. An essential part of our trips had been an evening at the Skiff Inn. On a snowy night in January we made our way to the Skiff; had the privatisations of Covid19 taken its toll on this bar/restaurant? That question was answered as soon as we opened the entrance door. The inn was warm and welcoming but the atmosphere felt great but those feelings were outshone by the atmosphere. The chink of glasses, the laughter, the greeting from the staff carried the message - 'Welcome back!' The food, the drinks, the service were just as we remembered. Best of all - the staff couldn't have been more attentive. So, for great food/drinks, for great service, for a great time, visit the Skiff Inn and make it sooner rather than later.

Really nice to support an independent pub restaurant in an area that has been taken over by faceless restaurant chains. Friendly staff, interesting decor and good quality food. Given its location near to several hotels it would be easy to just offer basic food and service but they didn't. So we went away well fed and happy 😊.

Was one of the best stakes IV ever had I ordered peppercorn sauce on the side and it was amazing, there is a full range of food and drink too try on the menu it really does cater well for its guests, we ordered a garlic bread pizza with cheese on the side too, tasted really good you could tell it was made on premises, this place really is a hidden gem, the staff are really friendly and there is plenty of room too move around , I will deffinatly be visiting here again, overall a fantastic visit.

We popped in here by chance as we had a super hungry toddler. The service was amazing. Papa Joe even brought a little dolly out for my daughter. We ordered a GF pizza, a child's pizza (which was ginormous) and a selection of starters: goats cheese, prawn cocktail and Halloumi fries. Everything was hot, well portioned and delicious. The goats cheese was absolutely amazing. Considering this was just a quick pop in as it was close we will definitely be returning.

Went for a meal after a walk around the Land of Oak and Iron Country Park, having seen the mainly positive reviews. We weren't disappointed. Upon arrival we were shown to a table and after a short while our orders were taken. The food - a fish and chips and a goat's cheese tart - was of a high quality, and the staff were extremely friendly without being sickeningly over-effusive. Overall it's one of the best eating-out experiences we've had in some time. We would have no hesitation in returning

Called in here a couple of times before the great plaque descended, just for a pint and let the 5 o'clock traffic go. Today same same, but we ordered food also. People may say it's just Italian, pasta, pizza, they would be wrong. A good chef can make a big difference and they have one here. By the time we left it was nearly full and most of the people were known by the staff, so obviously regulars, another good sign. Staff were very good and the place itself has a good feel to it.

I have been going to the Skiff for years, taking my mother and disabled partner. Sadly after losing them, I didnt get to go so much. Recently, I have been back several times. It's so heartening that in times of change, today I was greeted by one of the regular staff. All of them welcome you as if you're old friends. Then the food - always cooked to an amazing standard and what a choice. I had the goat's cheese tart and it was exemplary; not your typical pub food. The menu is extensive, to suit everyone's taste and pocket. Highy recommend.

The number of people in the Inn on a Monday evening tells the tale. There was a constant stream of people coming in throughout the night for food. The majority of the positives of this review, relies on the quality of the food, which was delicious. However the attitude of one member of staff in particular stunk. She had black hair died up in a ponytail (not the girl with brown hair and glasses, she was lovely). Our waitress however, had a very rough demeanour and was very abrupt and had incredibly poor customer service skills. Also what was infuriating was asking for the dessert menu, waiting 15 minutes for service, then giving up in the end due to no one providing service, despite the fact we clearly had put the menu to one side to indicate our readiness. I'd recommend the place for the food, but I do feel the price point of the meals isn't justified, as the service of some of the staff and overall customer service dragged our experience down.

Exceptional food and atmosphere. I had a risotto with chicken and chorizo, it was the best one I've had in a long time. Prawn aglio was sublime with big prawns and a generous portion of rice. Been told about this pub a few times but only recently went. Easy to get to and there is always parking. The food itself is amazing. We were staying at the Holiday inn express just next door. So this was the obvious choice. It's a family run business, so the food is not mass produced like you get in a chain. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the service was good. The food was tasty and well cooked, with good sized portions. We can thoroughly recommend this place.

Chicken Kiev for main was sensational - add as much garlic as you wish. Sausage and mash was so tasty and filling and the garlic bread starter was massive!! Wow, what an absolute gem of a find this was! Please pay them a visit if you haven't been before! My wife and I must have passed here hundreds of times. On Saturday 3 Oct 2020, we were at MetroCentre and trying to find somewhere to eat that didn't have a massive queue or over an hour to wait for a table, so after much walking and driving around, we ended up here. I am so pleased we did, a truly fantastic authentic family run restaurant, with top quality freshly prepared Italian or traditional English food (and a wonderful children's menu, including real food, such as steak or steak and ale pie, not just beige food)! First class, friendly, personable service to boot! I had Sausage (proper Cumberland ring) and homemade buttery mash, with veg, crispy fried onions and gravy, it was so nice, my wife had a lovely hot beef sandwich with gravy and our daughter had homemade chunky cod bites, with bright green garden peas and homemade chips. We will definitely come back and I really hope they make it through this difficult Covid period.

Was staying on my own at the Holiday Inn beside the Skiff Inn after leaving my daughter to Newcastle University. Checked the menue and reviews online and decided to go for a meal. The menue was right up my street, friendly staff and a good family atmosphere. My starter was delivered piping hot and was superb, main was great with real home made chips, staff asked was everything OK with the food on several occasions and took time to talk to me which is great when your dining solo. Also had a couple of pints of local dark ale which makes a change from branded only beers available in Northern Ireland. Great atmosphere, service, food and drinks at very reasonable prices.

Friendly staff and good, quick service. If you stay at the Travelodge this is the place to go for your food.

No fault with meal, was well presented and portion size more than enough, but was annoyed to be pestered for order as soon as entering the restaurant, waiter keep coming over for order and we asked for a few minutes to brouse over the menu but he was back and forward and we were eventuality told the place was getting busy so hurry up, yes the restaurant was busy but during our stay there was plenty free tables available so didn't understand the panic, this has definitely put us off and I doubt we will return.
