N. K.Well this is a very popular place. It does get busy but the food is lovely and at a good price. The staff were lovely, polite and friendly and very attentive. Turtle Bay is close to all transport amenities.its also surrounded by plenty of other pubs and restaurants, if you fancy a bit of shopping eldon square close by. If you fancy a stay over plenty of hotels to choose from. I will definitely be back as I was spoilt for choice from the menu and I need more of the lovely coconut ice cream. They do great cocktail 2-4-1 till 7pm, they also serve many other drinks i have recommended to family and friends already. It's a great place to visit you won't be disappointed 😊 X
Please get some salmon in for next visit.
N. M.Went for bottomless brunch as always the cocktails were lovely. The food was absolutely delicious. It was definitely good value we never had an empty glass and the one time we were waiting a couple of minutes for a cocktail the waitress brought over a bottle of Prosecco whilst we waited. We will definitely be returning to do it again.

M. V.I ordered ribs with mac n cheese and I got it very fast which was great, but it wasn't warm enough and the portion was very small. It felt like a starter and I was still very hungry after it.
But overall I have to say that food was delicious. I would give 5 stars if the portion was bigger and warmer.

Loved the Caribbean vibe, the lively music, the food and the excellent service!
We ordered a Coca-Cola whilst deciding what dishes to have, and I loved the glass bottle it was served in! Funky concept.
We had the garlic pit prawns and crispy chilli squid for mains - the prawns were a-ma-zing! You could taste the meatiness of the prawns and the softness of the melted butter over the flatbread.
For mains, we ordered the Jerk Salmon with spiced fries, and the Salmon Curry. Both full of flavour, the fries were delicious.
Loved the customer service, the staff were friendly, approachable and nothing was too much trouble for them, always serving us with a big smile!
I highly recommend this venue and the extra point goes for the fact that they're open until 12.30am on a Thursday night!

Looked after superbly by Rosie for our 2 hour bottomless brunch and shout out to Dan in the kitchen for the excellent meal! Then looked after at the bar by Jack and Gilbert as we made our way through the rum menu!! All these guys are a credit to you!!

Only complaint would be that the music was way too loud and didn't seem in keeping with the vibe of the restaurant, felt more like club music than dining music which was a shame as entirely we left because it was too loud.

Our waiter Katie had such a big patch that she couldn't get round everyone quickly enough. The servers helping her were clearly unfamiliar with the amended layout so kept taking our drinks to the wrong tables.
Our starters came part way through our mains; the table next to us waited over an hour for their food, only for their desserts to come before their mains. I think they got some £ off, but the kitchen was in absolute disarray.
I still enjoyed it, but I probably wouldn't go again for an event like valentine's Day

S. J.Disappointing experience after the last time we were there, seemed to be waiting for ages to be seated when we 1st arrived. The greeter said she didn't see us, I don't know how as I'm 6ft 4 tall. We were seated near the back where a lot of staff were gathered talking, which explains the wait. We got our starters, I like spicey food but my wife's dish was way too spicy for a dish that wasn't meant to be too spicy. Literally just put the last fork full in my mouth n waitress was there taking away our plates. My fork was still in my hand. Things didn't really improve for the main course. It came out very quickly which is good provided the food is cooked properly. Unfortunately my wife's stack burger was still raw inside and my ribs were the smallest portion of ribs I'd ever seen. Gave me the feeling of slap dash fast food outlet rather than a nice place to eat.

And too loud music meaning we couldn't talk to each other but the point of meeting was to chat and catch up so went elsewhere after mains instead of ordering a few more drinks here.

This place is perfect for family outing with the kids and as well as staff day out.
There is parking in the Gate building and Restaurant is close to all shopping centres in the centre of Newcastle. Pubs, bar and clubs are nearby.
The staff are extremely professionals and customer service is 100% for me.

Also Enjoyed the 2 for 1 cocktails - do like a tingaling!! It was pretty full at 6pm on a Monday night so would probably book if coming later or the weekend.

One thing that put me off was sitting near the door and could smell cigarette smoke from outside whilst eating. Also need to check your bill, was charged extra for a side order which came with the dish.

D. P.Cards on the table, I'm West Indian by heritage and as such I have fairly high expectations of any restaurant selling Caribbean food, especially when most Caribbean food in the UK is termed "Caribbean" but is actually Jamaican almost entirely.
As a London native I'd never heard of Turtle Bay before (as the branches in London are a bit out of the centre) but the menu was nicely eclectic and representative of all of the islands, and so I went along to try it out. Good decision to say the least.
First, good service. We didn't book. No trouble at all. Seated immediately, and 2-4-1 cocktails.
I made a point to choose food I know based on where I'm from and I have to say, it wasn't half bad, the food was flavoured well, and cooked properly (i.e. potato in a curry per certain islands traditional way of cooking). I mean there's not zero negatives, the 'Trinidad' Chicken Curry. Hardly. But not bad for a chain restaurant.
I also liked the ambience and layout, the music was from all over the West Indies, and the decor too, a Carib fridge (Trinidad & Tobago), a Wray & Nephew sign above the second bar (Jamaica) and I saw signage and influences from Barbados, Antigua and even St. Vincent.
I have to say, I can't recommend this place more highly. Good staff, hard working and attentive. Servers plating food for example. Good food. And good prices.
If you're in Newcastle. Definitely visit this branch.
B. T.This was the first time I tried genuine carribean food and it didn't fail to impress. The food was fantastic, but beware, the majority of dishes are spicy! The jerk steak I ordered unfortunately was rather well done when I asked for medium rare which is why I dropped a star. Still it was one of the best steaks I have tasted. 2 for 1 cocktails during the meal too (£7 each normally) which was great. They have a cocktail exclusively for January 2017 called One Love For Haiti where your money gets donated to charities helping out in Haiti which was nice.
The restaurant is very rustic with a nice atmosphere and good music. Staff seem very friendly too. If you fancy something different and some nice strong but cheap cocktails definitely head here.

J. H.Very mediocre food in comparison to the other branches I've visited. Though the service wasn't bad, with a very talkative waiter helping us throughout the evening, the atmospherics were bad. Playing club music doesn't go with the theme. I wanna listen to reggae or dancehall when eating curried salmon, like the Nottingham site does so well. The pit prawns weren't as flavoursome, and nor was the salmon.

The food that everyone in the party ordered came altogether and my steak was cooked to perfection. The spinach that accompanied it had a nice kick to it. Food is not as expected , too oily in general; the portion of each course is enough.
Starters:
Chicken wings, over grilled, taste bitterness. Fried Mac & Cheese, don’t know what is that at all. Hard and no taste.
Main dish:
Fried chicken breast, over cooked for the outside breaded part. Inside meat is ok, not dry.
Hash Goat, oily and the taste is normal. Don’t know why it’s recommended on the menu.
Sorry if my comment is harsh… I love this place before COVID. Now, I don’t know anymore. 🥲

The food is unpretentious and the service is good. They add on 10% service charge, but you can take it off the bill if you want. It's not really a shirt and tie kind of place; the vibe is definitely relaxed. A great place to come and try something slightly more off the beaten food track of Italian, Asian or French cuisine. Recommended!

H. T.My husband and I had dinner at Newcastle Turtle Bay on Friday night. Was a really disappointing experience. We were seated at a table quickly but had to ask for it to be cleaned. My husband ordered the curried goat as his main course but when the meal came it was chicken. Both of our mains were luke warm, the rice and peas was almost cold. My husband tried to complain to the waiter that the food was cold but the waiter pretended he hadn't heard him and walked off. We have never had a bad meal at turtle Bay before and I don't think it's much to expect the food you order to be correct and warm.

C.I've been in a few Turtle Bay restaurants and in every one, the staff have been fantastic. The Newcastle outlet was no exception, really fabulous staff. They let themselves down with the food though. I've had much better jerk chicken and the curried goat was mainly fat and gristle. Lovely flavour though. We will be back just in case they were having an off day.

Approx £15 per person. Delicious and prices were reasonable, staff were very attentive, shame we never tried the cocktails. Will definitely be making a return visit soon.

D. B.Food was spot excellent, the restaurant looks authentic. However, the menu isn't the best anymore. When this first opened there was a lot of choice on the menu when it came to deals. Specifically the 2 course & 3 course special. On these offers now you only get 3 options from the main menu for the main meal! No where near as many as the previous menu. Also, you have to pay extra to have chips/fries as a side dish, they don't come with the meal you've ordered which is a bit silly.
All in all, good food but I don't think I'll be going back anytime soon.

Not a problem at all the lovely host at the door took us to a lovely table at the back of the restaurant. Food was absolutely delicious lovely cocktails and the carribean dumplings were to die for. I first went to turtle bay for the food but kept returning because of the lovely staff.
I go here all the time and would recommend it to anyone who loves cocktails, spicy food and a lovely atmosphere.
E. S.5 of us went. Atmosphere is great. Food was good. One of our group couldn't eat her steak because the sauce on it was too spicy, but the steak was good. I asked what the sauce with my salmon would be like and they offered to do the sauce on the side which was ideal as it was hot, I did like it but wouldn't have wanted it all over my salmon. We had a veggie in our group and she really loved her meal. The staff were pleasant and we all enjoyed it. We will definitely go back. The cocktails are great too

Not authentic Caribbean, however they've tried to capture the eating experience from carrots Caribbean islands and not just Jamaica, and it's certainly tasty enough for someone of Caribbean decent (me) to warrant several visits here and try out several different cuisines. If you don't want food then there's a happy hour here where cocktails are 2 for 1, on top of Which there's a couple of bar staff that smash out wonderful cocktails for a pastime. So we'll worth a visit or 2 or 3.

B. S.Came here for an evening meal on 18th and not from Newcastle and it looked decent. Menu was good with lots to choose from however a lot of spices and odd sauces. Drinks menu pretty limited unless you like Rum. Had the spicy jerk chicken burger however when it arrived I was pretty disappointed. There was so much sauce, not just on the bun but the vegetables inside were soaked and made the burger a soggy mess.
Service was average but basic steps of service. Staff friendly however. Place lacked atmosphere which didn’t make for a good experience however I understand it can’t be helped.

S. B.First time here, and trying Caribbean food for real. Went with a friend, who is originally from Grenada so knows a lot about the food. He enjoyed it (it was his first time in Turtle Bay). I tried a starter with Duck Roll. To be honest I could hardly taste the duck because of the sour orange chutney served with it, but nice enough. Main course was Jamaican Browned Chicken. It came in a nice big pan and I enjoyed this. The dumplings that came with it reminded me of the dough used for donuts, and there were slightly hard. I would have preferred something a bit softer. Overall, I enjoyed the meal, and washed it down with nice bottle of Ginger beer. The service was great. The waitress we had was very helpful, personable and cheerful. I'd recommend this place. Give it a try.

T.I loved this place. It was unfortunate that there were not many people in the bar / restaurant as it would have been nice to have a little more atmosphere, but I suppose this was due to the cold wet weather.
The choice of food is amazing and well proportioned, it would have been great to eat proper sized doubles (a street food speciality in Trinidad and Tobago) in their authentic form, but I understand this is catered for a UK market The music was nice and at a comfortable level. Caribbean tunes would have suited the evening. My colleagues and I enjoyed our visit, here first sipping our cocktails followed by our meal.
I'm intrigued to see if London branches are similar.

K. 6.Lovely food great service. Happy hour 2 for 1 cocktails was a bonus. An indicator on the menu to say hot and spicy the meals are would help. Great relaxed feel for casual dining and/or drinking. Light bites/tapas style food avilable as well as three couse meals. Also although it was 6pm onwards on a Saturday night, for people sitting eating the volume of the music was quite loud and on top of that lots of people talking ment we struggled to hear the waiter and had to almost shout at each other to talk.

A.I have not yet eaten at the Newcastle Turtle Bay but I was a little disappointed when I ate at the Middlesbrough one a year ago, the food was not bad it was just not particularly memorable for such a gleefully themed place. However I was in the bar after 10pm purely and simply for the two for one cocktails. In this they are absolutely faultless. The Range is brilliant and of high quality particularly for the price.

L. A.Visited here with a few friends on bank holiday Monday for food. Booked in advance as we thought it was going to be busy but loads of tables available when we got there. I shared 3 starters and a side of chips with another person as we weren’t very hungry. Opted for the Chilli Shrimp Open Roti, Salt Cod Fish Cakes and the Jerk chicken wings. The Roti were very doughy and a bit greasy but the prawns were good with a nice taste, the fish cakes were a little crispy but again tasted good and gave a different texture to a traditional fish cake which was pleasant and the wings were good but I’ve had better at local chicken restaurants in Newcastle. The cocktails were delicious at 2 for 1 (we got there in time for happy hour). Staff are attentive and friendly too which is a bonus! Service charge was added but not sure if this is normal or because we were a party of 5.

I am afraid I will need to admit I did the same when entering the gate. The music was very loud and I felt that considering it was about an hour from closing I was surprised and there was not many people dancing or enjoying it. E.Worth visiting just for cocktails with the 2.4.1 offer. Also the food is nice and they have a nice range of interesting foods. A nice new jamaican touch to newcastle. Only critisism is the service can be slow at times even when its not that busy. My last visit the food was really good had the street burger and my fiance had the jerk chicken burger. But when i asked for the bill it took about 20 minutes for the staff to bring the card machine.
F. A.FIRST TIME at Turtle Bay, atmosphere excellent waitress spot on , polite and curtious, Atire in the restaurant was relaxed and stylish really fitted in with the vibe of the place. So to the order.. ordered the spare ribs with the jerk sauce on top with sweet potato fries and coleslaw, and a pint of diet coke, the coke was delivered in a very unusual bottle with an elastic band on top and what looked like a piece of paper on top. I liked this it was something different and again fitted in with the theme of the restaurant. FOOD ARRIVED IN RECORD TIME 👏.Food tasted great the ribs where tender and extremely succulent. The sweet potatoes fries once dipped in the jerk sauce gave you that carribean soul dealing.. life is good.... Which was really nice and cooked just right, again a little bit hotter would have been spot on.
Overall you will not be DISSAPOINTED with this restaurant, reasonable prices, good Food, polite service.
