L. A.Amazing fish & chips. Really tasty & well done. However 45 mins for the wait is ridiculous. The staff looked seriously over worked. There seems to be too many orders coming in from online & to collect. I understand they are trying their best & they say there is a wait time but they need a bigger kitchen and more staff. However, amazing food, the homemade garlic sauce is the best I’ve tasted!

M. J.We ordered in advance as I'm gluten free. Rang 30minutes before picking up. Portions huge. Really lovely food. We're not used to skin on fish where we live so that was a shock but no trouble eating around it. Cod was lovely and moist. Chips good too. Staff really friendly.
Cash only. The lady did warn me of this when I rang the order through and offered to tot up the total for me.
Believe you can also order through some apps too.

A true gem of a fish & chip shop, fish was fresh, crispy, good batter, chips were chunky and soft and fluffy in the middle.. A plus squid and Prawn on the menu. Defo will be going back.
J. S.My fiancée and went on Sunday evening 31/7/2022 and the shop was very busy so to me that shows they are a very popular takeaway establishment. My fiancée ordered a portion of chips large battered cod pot of mushy peas and a pot of tartar sauce. The were nearly on closing time 2030 and the kind man frying the food said I have thrown in another piece of cod otherwise it would only go in the bin and we can't keep it, we both said thank you. Once home there was more than enough food for the both of us. The food looked smelled and tasted fantastic also they had a 5* rating in the door of their premises. The price was responsible to I have recommended them to our friends and family we will use them again

P. W.We had wanted traditional fish and chips whilst we were here for our stay. We had read good reviews about Stotesburys and they are not wrong. Phenomenal is the best way to describe the food. Batter is light and the chips crispy. The wife to be says the best fish and chips she has had in ages! Staff great. Its cash only but there is a number if cash machines on the corner. If you are in Newport or close then its definitely worth a visit.

Be sure to come well before closing time as they start to tidy up early. The homemade tartar sauce is definitely worth trying. The staff were very nice.

Gluten free options available too - there's a 30 minute wait but it's superb that they offer them.
They also offer some great alternatives like mozzarella dippers, brie wedges, panko prawns etc.
Parking was convenient, but I went on a Sunday night; might need a bit of planning on a Saturday afternoon.
Cash only, but no issues there as the cash points are a minute walk away.

a. s.So disappointed.. the best fish and chips in town can always be found here, eaten here for many years. I know they are lovely so we walked 20 minutes into town at 730pm on my birthday, specially to Stotesburys for a treat. Arrived with only one person in the queue, then told there would be a half hour wait, 3 staff were cooking.
I work away overseas and thought we'd treat ourselves to their lovely fish n chips, which I miss overseas, also being my birthday. Priority seems to be to online orders now, than passing trade.
I still love the food here though and the best fish n chips in town, but the service wasn't there this evening , unfortunately.

A. B.Went here last week with a few friends & it was our first time trying authentic fish & chips. Lou was so great in explaining all the options we could have. The portions they give are generous. We got a large chips portion which was HUGE, definitely for more than 3 people. We got regular cod, which was also a sizeable amount. The Calamari is to die for. Everything was delicious. The sauces were also amazing. You have to try the curry sauce! I wish I could’ve taken some back with me. Overall, just a great experience with the food and the service. Hope I have a chance to come again.

Wait times are sometimes longer but then again, this is probably owing to everything being cooked to order. Highly recommend visiting this fish and chip shop for an experience you'll be happy with!

W. A.After searching online for a gluten free fish and chip shop we found Stotesburys fish and chips. Website warned in advance that gluten free food would take longer to cook. I phoned through the order and the lady who answered the phone was very patient and very professional. Had to wait a further 5-10 minutes after arriving for our order, this is the only thing that didn't go to plan but can't complain as they was very busy. The food was well portioned and to quote my wife, the best gluten free fish and chips she has had. Will definitely visit again on future holidays.

M. U.The best fish and chips on the Isle of Wight everything is cooked fresh to order so there might be a slight waiting time. Most chippys have one fryer to fry everything. So looking for halal food I was very assured by being showed the separate fryers for meat, fish and chips. If you want amazing fish and chips this is definitely the place to go I ordered through Uber and as always there is a wait, roughly and hour and half of a weekend ( but when you use the islands most popular chip shop what do you expect) I don’t mind the wait as I know the food is top quality and always cooked fresh, the staff are so helpful and cheerful even under pressure. Excellent food Excellent service keep up the good work Stotesburys.
B. A.We turned up on a Sunday evening and ordered the family meal with a couple of extra sausages, pretty decent value. We were told it was going to be a 20 minute wait. Not a problem and we waited outside until called. This wait turned into 45 minutes however and people who arrived in the queue and ordered after us got their food before we did. Didn’t make sense when we didn’t order anything elaborate. The food when we got it was really decent quality and arguably worth the wait, but the order management was really poor and that’s why we have only given 3 stars.

I. O.I had a nice cod and chips but my only geipw was that it took way too long to be ready. I ordered in the shop and had to wait a long time for it to be ready. Maybe it was a busy period (Monday evening), who knows. Maybe they had lots of online orders. Nice food though.
P. C.After hearing these were the best F&C's on the Isle I must admit, my expectations were high. So after pre-ordering in advance we still had to wait 20 minutes after the collection time and considering the amount of staff on the line this was confusing. But never the less, good things come to those who wait!
Once getting back home I found the fish to be dry and the chips average so was left a little disappointed.
Maybe this was just a one off thing so happy to try again 👌🏼

But Stotesburys have been on the top of my list for a few years now.
T. P.Paid a modest amount for a Large piece of Huss, 2x Large chips, Steak Pie and a battered sausage. Portion sizes were very generous for the chips and for the price we paid, the inside shop area is a little small so once you've placed your order you will have to wait outside. Only disappointment was the website said the pies were homemade but to our dismay they were Pukka pies (which aren't bad, just thought I'd be getting a homemade pie)
M. M.Busy local with good fish and chips - quite large portions, the cod bites I ordered would probably be enough for 2 people. The fish was nicely cooked in a crunchy batter. There was a small queue when I visited on a weekday lunchtime, with a wait of approximately 20mins for the food to be ready.
J. B.Fantastic fish and chips. They do some very good lunch specials at a very good price, although some can sell out very quickly. The staff are very friendly. They also accept phone orders which is handing when ordering for a work lunch one a Friday. There is free parking on the road outside but you'll be luck to get a space.

The shop is always busy with locals so you know that it's good quality food that they are serving. They offer good value, fresh food are the serving are very generous.

The ladies behind the counter are efficient, polite and seem to know their regulars well. Food is tasty, cooked to order, with very generous portions for decent prices! Ordered the panko prawns which were hot fresh crunchy and juicy, with a 'small' portion of chips and garlic mayo. Go hungry, that's my advice.
Staff lovely, place kept immaculately clean:top notch.
Chips extra chunky, and therefore better for you, crispy on the outside fluffy inside. If I could give 6 stars I would. If my arteries could stand it I'd go all the time, but hey ho. Treat yourself, go savour these delights.

L. M.For over 100 years Stotesburys have been serving the residents of Newport quality fish and chips. So clearly they know what they're doing.
The food is great, with a really good range of menu items, including for vegetarians! There are daily and evening specials, which sometimes are too good to resist. Stotesburys is always busy, even 30 minutes before closing. If you've yet to give these guys a try I'd definitely get down there! Oh, don't forget to try our their homemade tartar sauce or curry ketchup!

For me, Thursday is my chip night, partly as its less bus than Friday and also as the portions are generous, not to mention freshly fried, I often have some left over for Friday anyway. Every time my 87 year-old mother comes to the island we she insists we get fish and chips on the way to my home, and I have absolutely no reason to argue with her about that :-)!

E. S.I was told about this takeaway by my friends who visited the Isle Of Wight last year. Very busy, good service and brilliant Fish & Chips. I can honestly say that this was the best Fish & Chips we have had for years, the fish was perfectly cooked, the batter was really crunchy, delicious. Everything was FRESH!!! There was people queuing which is always a good sign. The girls behind the counter work so hard to accommodate you too. I've also heard its the old chippie on the island (since 1897) wow!!!! All in all definitely worth a visit!

W.Don't very often get to Newport, dreadful traffic, but last week had an appointment close by, so decided to get a take-a-way from here, (a place we haven't purchased from in several years) in the evening before going home. I'm really glad we did. My wife had a piece of huss and I had a beef and onion pie with a medium portion of chips (which was bigger tha most places large portion) and it was all fantastic and very reasonably priced. This has got to be the best take-a-way fish and chip shop on the Island and probably in Hampshire where I have had many a portion of chips over the years, but never any like these. Very clean and very helpful, cheerful staff. We shall most definitely be making more trips into Newpot for the sole purpose of obtaining a meal from here.

My daughter used to hate fish and it was a real battle to get her to eat anything except tuna but she adores Stotesburys fish, so they must be doing something right. There can be a long wait at busy times, and the portions are huge (a medium chips would cover the average dinner plate leaving no gaps and piled quite high).
