D. B.My wife and I have been to every fish and chip shop in Arnold not a one can offer the consistency and friendly service that Jamie and his staff do. We travel from Rise Park every week for the FINEST fish and chips in Arnold and beyond and have never had a meal that we haven’t absolutely enjoyed. Jamie, his father and mother care passionately about what they do and it shows in the food they produce. The continual stream of other regulars illustrates we are not the only satisfied customers.
Update I’ve tried the large haddock and chips a couple of times now and what a feast it is even better than seaside chippies (what’s happening with them?) if the fish were any bigger you wouldn’t get them in the fryer and the taste is simply exquisite, a meal to satisfy your belly as well as your soul (no pun intended)!

Having lived in Arnold for 19 years and trying all the food restaurants, and chip shops. This is by far the best chip shop in Arnold, and surrounding areas. Perfect all round; pricing food quality and portion size!!!!

S. B.This used to be our chip shop of choice but we moved areas, alas. The portions are great, the prices competitive and the quality exceptional. Best of all it's family owned, they are warm welcoming and always thankful for your custom.
M. M.Leaving a review as the current score doesn't seem to reflect the quality. The fish seemed like it was cooked a while ago despite ordering in advance was ten minutes early to collect and the fish already seemed like it had sat there for a while, the batter was also not very fluffy or airy as it should be. The sausage and batter, batter was soggy. The chips were undercooked. All in all very average fish and chip meal. Don't be fooled by the prior reviews. This was also on a Friday night when you would expect it would be at its best. On the plus side the haddock was huge, although I would have took quality over size
e. r.Absolutely amazing fish and chips the other night from here and also a great kebab couldn't believe how nice the meat was ,chips were cooked to perfection and the fish was huge, would recommend this place as james and his dad keep it so clean too no mess or dirt anywhere everything stainless steel . I use this shop every week and will continue to do so .

A. B.It's always good to find a Fish Bar that cooks in beef dripping, my preferred option. I have been waiting to try this place for some time but the opening hours never seemed to coincide with my passage through Arnold. Apparently, apart from Friday and Saturday, the shop doesn't open at lunchtime. Since it is situated on the High Street and somewhat away from the 'Main Drag', footfall can be quite low. This take away is also in competition with a number of other multi ethnic restaurants offering similar priced meals and strung along the High Street.
Fortunately this is not the case later in the day as the business captures an element of the commuter traffic and it has continued to feed folks for the last six years or so. The young chap who served me (owner?) is a local resident and was happy to chat about the business. He intimated that he would like to extend the hours but I suspect that this would cost more than it would generate.
Whilst the chips were enjoyable enough, it may have been due to my late afternoon visit, but I was slightly under whelmed by the batter on my freshly cooked to order haddock, so regrettably, only 4 stars. Whilst perfectly crispy it was quite flat (there are a number of possible reasons for this, although I won't speculate) rather than the ridged and furrowed version beloved of celebrity chefs and so, to my mind, didn't entirely complement the fish. I don't know if this is the norm, so will warrant a return visit when possible. I would like to see details of the potatoes being fried and also the provenance of the fish. Yes, I know most don't give a monkeys about such things but the diehard element like to know.
Apart from traditional fish and chips the business sells a number of other related items including pies, sausages and also kebabs (I won't hold this against them, as long as they don't expect me to buy one). Evening opening only Monday to Thursday, all day Friday and Saturday. Cash only.
U. D.I've lived in Arnold for over 20 years, and so have tried all of the local fish & chip shops more than once. The Arnold Fish Bar is a relatively recent addition to the town's culinary offerings, but has become our firm favourite.
Simply put, they serve consistently great chips and fish! They're not trying to be the cheapest, and you have to wait a bit when they're busy. But they're very friendly, and clearly take great pride in their own business.
I'd hesitated to bring this establishment to the attention of the wider public via this Google Review, as I'd prefer that you leave it alone. Its quite successful enough as it is with a band of enthusiastic locals who've discovered it, so I could do without it being inundated!

T. M.My first Chip Shop experience in Arnold and certainly won't be my last. While they may advertise themselves as a Fish Bar, they have plenty of other eating options available. I had Chicken Nuggets and Chips, the nuggets were extremely tasty in comparison to most nuggets out there.
