Excellent good choice of quality buffet food, reasonable prices on the drinks too.

Really busy however we waited a few mins for a table. Food was hot & lots to choose from. All delicious. Omg we has cocktails 🍸 brilliant price & best we've had!!! £8.50 for food & £4.50 cocktail can't go wrong definitely will be going back next time we're in Notts.

First time being to a Chinese buffet restaurant and the experience was quite awesome. Nothing to complain at all. Beginning with the starters, soups, mains and desserts, everything was nice and no complain with the quality of the food. There are some nice desserts as well. Authentic Chinese Buffet Restaurant 👍🏻

Great food and nice people. Very chaotic when you walk in though, nobody to check people in, just someone coming up to you saying ‘can I help you?’
Also think the coke was running low on syrup.
Overall pretty good value for money though.
J.
Good food would recommend the teppanyaki. Customers are a bit rough but not may sum’s fault

I had a wonderful time at May Sum. The food was delicious and at the price for a session, it was excellent value for money.
The waiting staff were courteous and the cooking staff were very efficient. Chicken and egg fried rice were very popular on the day; the trays emptied rapidly but new portions always arrived in a timely fashion.
The drink in the shot is a Large Apple Juice and it was more than I expected in keeping with the value for money theme
Now I believe you're looking at this review with the intention of going there, here's a piece of advice: Don't go alone like I did😅

This restaurant is in need of an update in decor and the cleanliness is lacking as the table, chairs and cutlery were all stained and /or dirty. The choice of food on the buffet was acceptable but not all the dishes were hot 🔥 enough and the cleanliness put me off slightly. Guess you get what you pay for but not necessarily acceptable standards of cleaning within an eating establishment.

I would definitely recommend MAYSUM. We have visited this restaurant few times as family of 4. Food is delicious, always refilled and plenty to choose from. Staff is hard working, ready to help and friendly. We have also visited as group of 7/9 people and never had issue with finding space. Will be back soon.

We have been coming here since it first opened. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not Michelin starred and it’s not going to win best restaurant award. It’s a buffet restaurant. The fact that the Big Wok, Red Hot and other Chinese/Malaysian/Thai food buffets in Nottingham closed down yet this one remains is all you need to know. The food is always hot, the trays get replenished before they are empty and the selection is aplenty and tasty. The soft whip ice cream machine is nearly always broken, but it wouldn’t be Maysum if it worked every time. When it is broken there is a selection of scooped ice cream instead. During the Covid restrictions it became a table service only restaurant but it’s now back to being a buffet once more. For an honest buffet restaurant meal at decent prices for an all you can eat system you cannot go wrong.

We've been here lot's of times, only once since they reopened again, the table service was good. We weren't kept waiting as soon as 1 of us had cleared our plate, a waitress appeared asking if we wanted anything else 👌 Purrrfick and value for money £8.50 for all this tasty food 😉
K. C.
Different varieties of Chinese-style food, together with fruit, ice-cream and dessert are available. The buffet price is reasonable and the restaurant is crowded during lunchtime. It would be great if more dim-sum of different kinds can be provided.
C. C.
Very convenient if you're wanting a cheap and delicious meal. Recommended. The lunch buffet is only £9.45. Nowadays it's pretty hard to dine out with under £10.
Z. A.
Been a good five or so years since we last tried here as we were very put off . Enough time passed for us to try again and for a Sunday buffet at about £21 for both of us . We really couldn't fault the food on offer.
The service was quick and painless , food wasn't to bad at all for Chinese. I've certainly been to better but it was an adequate selection of dishes 👍👍
J. P.
Food good service not so good, payed cash and they refused to give change until we'd eaten!!! Difficult to make them understand "gin and tonic" ....only received gin, and the waitress decided she wanted an argument when I asked for the tonic 🤷♀️🤷♀️ won't rush back to revisit
L. B.
Never bad food.
Was very busy today (Thurs 2/6) but that's good, it means food is always hot.
Good selection, enjoyed it very much 5*
J. V.
One of the best buffets ever and for a very low price too. The quality of the food was beyond our expectations. The only drawback was we had to wait about 15 minutes to get in even with a reservation.
R. W.
The food was nice and the service was good too. The restaurant itself looks a bit tired. All the bathroom soap dispensers were broken, not great for a buffet! The ice-cream machine was out of action as well so everyone had to scoop ice-cream out of tubs with the same serving scoop. I was quite surprised that I wasn't ill in the morning. I don't think that I'll bother going back in any great hurry, it wasn't an enjoyable place to be, I just felt like being there to make somebody a profit.
J. S.
Great value and the kids loved it. Feels a little cheap and cheerful but great for the price. The staff were all very helpful and friendly.
A. P.
Good buffet with wide variety of dishes for both vegetarians and non vegetarians. Also salads and desserts available as part of the buffet. Drinks are not included in the buffet menu and is to be bought separately. The dine in buffet is much more worth it as compared to the take away lunch box. Good, friendly and very helpful staff and customer service. They do not accept contactless payments but card payments are accepted.
N. A.
I wobbled into Maysum on my way back from church today and I think I had fun o. Buffet costs about 8 pounds and half pint of craft beer for barely 2P. I ate and ate and ate. Lol. I wish I were a glutton. There was no space to stuff the fruits, salads and ice creams. I feel like going back there now, but I dont have another 10p to throw around. The staff here are friendly and efficient. Never letting an empty plate linger on the table. Willing to assist us with photographs, and kept a smiling face all through. I think I'd be back there and soon. #cheers

Super great food just couldn't see any sushi? Friendly staff and yea good place
K. W.
Delicious food, great portions, quick service and friendly staff. Changes due to Covid are in place, no buffet available but a choice of food items on a tick sheet are the alternative. Perfect portion sizes and not a disappointment at all. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.
A. P.
NEW POST - COVID arrangements for this place: no longer eat as much as you like, but with order cards and meals delivered fresh to table.
Tables distanced, with plexiglass screens between them. Staff seamlessly bring dishes to tables , up to you all - in - one or starters - mains etc.
Menu smaller, but sizes very generous, table of picture below show two grand buffet choices.
Taste great, continue to buffet but fresh and hot, will definitely recommend 👍🏻
BTW, Lunch Buffet and Grand Buffet menu are both available all day, up to your choice 👈🏻
We both with my wife honestly prefer this set up, yes you have to choose in advance, yes dish amount is set - but it's enough, it's fresh and with no other clients fingers inside...
J. W.
Fantastic place to go for a you can eat buffet in Nottingham. Open from 12 midday, the price is average, great selection of food including puddings and salad, drinks are available with table service. Toilets are clean and tidy.
G. U.
Nice all you can eat buffet reasonably priced good choice of food
a. w.
Went at lunchtime today and for the price it's pretty good. Quite a bit of choice and it was hot enough and tasted ok. The staff are great, helpful and friendly. But, it is starting to look a bit mucky, the ladies toilets were dirty and hardly any hand soap, in fact they appeared to not have been cleaned properly for a while which makes me wonder if the take more care in the kitchen.
T. P. t. g. a. C. T.
An absolutely fantastic lunch! The variety and quality of the food was outstanding. Dishes being regularly restocked and everywhere was kept spotless by the friendly and attentive staff. My new Nottingham lunch go to!
L. A.
Always enjoy going here, I have never been disappointed yet, staff are very friendly and helpful, replacing drinks when needed and keeping an eye on tables to remove plates finshed with, excellent service... I was a little sad that the ice cream machine was not working 😕 however they did have replacements. Will continue to go here :)

Buffet lunch at Mausum. For 10 Pounds it's ok for the price and taste.
More Salt on the boiled or steamed foods.
A. W.
Arrived and immediately double cheek stacked up the gaff with chicken wings, prawn crackers, chicken balls, spring rolls, prawn toast and sweet and sour sauce. Incredible. First plate down. Whacked some sweet n sour chicken on, more prawn toast, wings and prawn crackers, little bit of short rib and pork. Inspirational. A similar 3rd plate later, I hit the hole. Felt like I was trying to penetrate the Wall of China. Pushed through, ate a 4th plate, onto the jelly and ice cream with chocolate sauce. This is where the pain starts. I couldn’t walk, talk or hardly breath. Wobbled my way to the bus, back to the gaff where I instantly chunned half of it back up, leaving a sweet n sour surprise for the cleaners. 10/10 would recommend.
i. w.
The place was very busy, but we were seated quick. The food was nice an had a good selection to choose from. Would definitely recommend.
A.
You get what you pay for, it's a £10 all you can eat Chinese buffet, not bad but not great
c. “. b.
Some of the vegetables were hard and not boiled long enough. And no toilet roll in the ladies. The rest of the food was very nice though and good money for value
S. G.
Very nice place to eat but be careful how much they charge you, we was over charged a full paying adult £13.95 and children over 4'10" are classed as adults even my 10yr old is an adult because he has legs, other then that good experience for all the family,
M. P.
Delicious selection of Asian and local foods buffet style. Excellent value and service. Going again as the lemon chicken and chilli beef was great...
K. P.
Lots of great tasting food with something for everyone! They really adapted well to the Covid-19 situation. Instead of going up to the buffet and choosing from the same pot everyone else chooses from you get a tick list and choose a variety of things that you want which then gets brought over to your table. You can still feed yourself like royalty for a good price!
T. L.
I really enjoyed it at this Chinese. I've been wanting to try this buffet for a while, and was disappointed. Fish stews, teppanyaki & sushi are always going to be a great hit especially with profiteroles for desert.
The place is very cramped though and you do find yourself weaving through the tables which would be irritating if you were the one sat in the middle with people passing so closely to you.
L. B.
Decent food and really good value for money. Was very busy at lunch time but didn't affect anything and the staff coped well.
M. M.
Great array of good food, all you can eat. Cocktails are good and staff very hard working
D. T.
Great food at reasonable price. Gets busy at times but that’s just a sign of good food.
M. M.
Highly recommended!!!
Delicious food and pretty big portions even after reopening in this crazy Covid19 times.
M. D.
Very nice food and great service.
P. E.
Food good, hot and plenty of choice, seated quickly and reasonably priced. What's not to love!
s. r.
Always love Maysum, but do wish when collecting plates they wouldn't lean over the food I'm eating to collect someone else's plate!
M. W.
Loved it. Was busy but didn't wait long. Food delicious. Staff friendly and helpful. Food always looked nice and was changed to fresh quickly
T. C.
Good choice. Very clean and the food was being replenished while we was there when dishes became empty
J. B.
Good quality food at low prices brilliant
A. H.
Seated quickly, service was decent ish. They wasn't very forthcoming with as to why we had 5 or so pairs of disposable gloves, or what we actually paid for upfront. Food was mostly okay, some of the meats were dry despite us being there at opening time.
D. A.
Really enjoyed a visit here. Had a good selection of foods (as expected) quality was all good. Limited on dessert but was not an issue. Was busy but didn't have to wait too long for a table.. helpful staff.
P. M.
Food is great and lots of it. Staff very friendly
T. E. (. G.
Been here plenty of times, love the experience every time. Lovely staff, amazing food, cheap service. Amazing.
J. D.
Been today for my sisters Birthday....gorgeous food as always 😋
K. P.
Cheap cheerful and good value for money. The selection of food is fantastic including a tippenyaki grill. The quality of cooking is comparable with a good quality takeaway. The interior of the restaurant is now showing it's age with really dirty seats and dirty toilets. That being said I always enjoy it there.
S. R.
Service was good, although some language difficulties. Poor choice for anyone who is vegetarian. I ate mostly noodles and green beans which were very good. Generally everywhere seemed clean. Even had tonwear a disposable glove for handling the serving spoons/tongs. However the toilets were something out of a Japansese.horror film - flickering lights, strange noises, tiny flies on the hand dryer and just not that clean. There was hand disinfectant everywhere though.
b. s.
We love maysum, the food is always beautiful and the syaff really nice and polite
E. L.
Been going here for years however, as it reopened to being a buffet once again, things have changed. We asked asked another glass of water and were rudely moaned at by staff, The chocolate fountain (my favourite) was oily and somewhat lumpy and the ice cream machines were all broken. Main meal was good as normal but staff need to up their game
J. M.
It literally took no more than 5 minutes for us to be seated, served drinks and told to get our food. Brilliant service, hot plates always being topped up with fresh foods. Very tasty and super cheap for the variety you get at lunch time!
D. S.
As the three of us entered and asked for a table, the waiter immediately asked if any of us were senior citizens - two of us were - to make sure the wrinklies got a 15% discount. Good start!
The food was delicious, and the choice out of this world - I counted 55 dishes in the main bar. They kept us occupied, so we never got to the salad bar or the dessert bar!
We were there for Sunday-Friday lunch for £8.25 each (70p more on Saturday) which meant £7 for the wrinklies, drinks excluded.
Full bar. In Upper Parliament Street in the centre of Nottingham.
S. H.
Good selection of tasty food. Friendly staff. Great value for money.
2.
Decent All you can eat place. The staff are helpful and friendly. I still visit once in a blue moon.
K. K.
A lively place with staff trying their best to satisfy every customer. For alot of food option its better to go at dinner time since the lunch time doesn't have all the food options hence making it cheaper than the dinner time.
m. h.
Excellent food. Absolutely cannot fault it.
Their decisions on child prices are questionable however.
Based on "height of child" and costing £4.50 for a child (who had just turned two y/o) that might only eat one or two spring rolls. We were also told he wouldn't be able to share our meals if we didn't pay for him.
L. D.
Very helpful staff, good food for a buffet :D
A. L.
Recently went there after reopening. The staff were so nice and someone even stopped at our table to ask about the food and talk to us. They were enforcing protocols for covid safety well, including instructing everyone to use a mask when serving and plastic gloves. Everything was great and very hot which can be a challenge for buffets. The price is very unbeatable as I’ve had the same quality but barely any variety of food for higher prices, so I’d much rather come here. Loved the spring rolls, fried chicken balls and other starters especially.
I. M.
Pretty good standard of food for an a cheap all you can eat - can’t go wrong for £9 (lunches) and £12.50 (dinner). Always an abundance of staff - even when it’s quiet - but service can still be a little slow for drinks etc. They do takeaway and central location- so handy for work lunches as well.
P. H.
Nice food downside took 20min to get a glass of disinfectant rather than lemonade sent back and after asking several times where our drinks were gave up after 40 more minutes, unfortunately came away with disinfectant taste repeating on me and thirsty not to mention £4 for 2 drinks we never got.
T. B.
Not as well looked after. Place looks very tired and could do with a lock of paint. Food area not as clean as it used to be. Food ok 👍
S. W.
Food hot. A few different item's that were wonderful. Will go again
L. H.
Amazing atmosphere...
Loved the food, staff polite and helpfull
Will definitely go again..
A. F.
Tasty food, not much selection but excellent value for money
E. M.
Very tasty food, and a very good selection also .
G. G.
Alright food for a all you can eat buffet, quite a big choice and food frequently replaced, everything was at least warm and was up to standard. The two big downsides of this place are the decor/furniture as it looks ancient and how everyone was so close together that it was very difficult to have a conversation with your party.
J. S.
Great place and good price also loved it and my family
C. T.
Clean. Staff very attentive. Food good.
E. E.
Fair price with average food quality. Very noisy atmosphere
H. S.
Actually a really good Chinese buffet, and cheap at some times!
T. D.
very nice food, friendly and quick service.
N. S.
Really lovely meal great service staff very helpful
M. R.
Great food ( and this is coming from someone who's not a massive fan of Asian food ), reasonably priced. pleasant and professional staff with great customer service skills. Would go again
C. L. (.
Nice all you can eat world buffet, a good selection of food at a reasonable price. friendly staff. Clean restaurant and fresh food.
P. S.
Fantastic food. Great quality and good selection.
T. O.
Lovely variety of food, loved it.
c.
Nice food and a wide variety of dishes. We had to wait for about 20 mins to get a table on a Saturday night. Staff seemed a little overwhelmed at how busy it was. Nevertheless it was still a nice experience.
Y. P.
it's decent. staffs r nice
K. M.
yummy food. service. I recommend
A. A.
Very nice place for me but a little bit noisy
A. M.
Good choice, good quality of food and very reasonably priced. Book for dinner as it can get very busy
k. c.
Absolutely amazing food as always and the staff work so hard! I’m very confused about the other reviews about the staff being rude, as being in a group of 6 and the restaurant being packed full of people, we never experience any rudeness whatsoever.
E. W.
The food was fresh, kept filling up through the night, very hard working staff, the only disappointment I had was that the staff was hover9around hovering
T. I.
Very nice chinese restaurant. The crispy duck is especially nice. We were in a group of 5 and the service was good. Food was great.
S. S.
Never had a bad meal here staff are lovely even when customers are rude which there is no need for been today 21-10-21 food was lovely and the pans were constantly being filled because of this place i have tried different foods that i would never normally try incase i did like them but you can get a small amount and if you don't like it its not a full meal wasted
C. D.
Staff so friendly and helpful atmosphere was nice suppose to be buffet but changed to one meal only due to covid 19 for some reason. I do not know why you could not order food as you eat and finish each dish plus they charging more. Drinks nice food was tasty but had to wait for about 15 20 mins to be seated even though there were tables of people finished eating and just chatting away .
l.
Great price and delicious
Offer a student discount
But some of them are not taste like Chinese food
d. n.
Lovely restaurant, Lovely atmosphere, Good music and Good cuisine.
A. M.
It was okay for a city buffet. It was quite busy and to start with a lot of the trays were empty. I enjoyed the food, but I've had better at other buffets.
J. T.
Buffet meals, service was quick to take us to a table. The food we had was delicious, we all thought it lacked in variety of foods compared to other Chinese buffet restaurants we have been to.
T. S.
Absolutely lovely staff very good food amazing and also nice to see they are trying too keep up with the covid guide lines plastic disposable gloves for you too wear when you are going too choose your food and use the utensils
K. K.
Nice dishes. Only thing is they need new chairs. Most of them are stained and very unattractive. I could have given them 5 stars.
N. H.
Great food at great price and good efficient service
C. P.
Incredibly quick service and polite staff. No longer a buffet due to Coronavirus; instead, you now pre select your buffet options.
The food quality wasn’t amazing but what you expect for a buffet style Chinese restaurant. Annoyingly, there weren’t many vegetarian options and some weren’t labelled as vegetarian at all.
Not worth the money in my opinion, but if you’re someone who wants lots of average food for £15 then it’s for you.
R. L.
Food was ok, but the staff we're intrusive thinking we didn't pay for all our children
C. W.
Good buffet food, my go to chinese when in Nottingham
A. S.
Nice food and lots of choice, will go again
P. P.
Lovely food with a huge range of dishes. The buffet was constantly being refilled so I did not miss out on anything. All you can eat for £11.50 per person. Staff was friendly, although not particularly attentive, had to ask them to clear the plates. I had a mix of a lot of different meats and veggies and suffered no consequences with my stomach which shows that the food is good quality.
M. N.
Great food, massive selection, good vslue
S. P.
Nice food but the interior decor is getting tired. Needs refreshing.
N. 9.
The selection of dishes and the dishes themselves are some.of the best I have had at a Chinese buffet. Sadly they are just not available enough. Not enough cooks it seems.
C. M.
Incredible meal!
I was a bit skeptical because a review said the food was average but they couldn't be more wrong. The food was amazing and well cooked. The Covid system of ticking what you like is very generous and varied for £15. The service was quick and the staff very friendly.
Could not fault the place! Highly recommend going after lockdown is over!
L. W.
I often enjoy coming here with family and friends. Its definitely worth what you pay. I also tend to get the duck. I think the place has a lot of potential to pursue within their cuisine. It's very limited in size.
C. E.
Buffet was fabulous. Good quality for the price, cater well for large groups
M. A.
We arrived at about 10 p.m. and we were advised that they would not be putting anymore food out so were given the chance to take a look at what was currently available before we decided on whether or not we wanted to eat. We did and so we were seated quickly and given a drinks menu to order from. A man, who I assume was the manager, helpfully came over and told us that they were closing desserts and their fish bar but would wait for us if we wanted to use them.
We went up to grab our food and there was a huge range available, from thin fried noodles to spicy chicken curry and flat pancakes. You can go up as much as you like, so I went up twice and tried everything they had to offer. My only qualm is that some of the labels don't make it clear which dish is which. This led me to pick up some fish curry which I believed was chicken curry, but not a huge deal.
As it was 10 p.m., the manager told us they would not be putting fresh food out. What we ate was essentially the leftovers from earlier in the evening. Despite this, none of the food was dry or stale or unpleasant and I enjoyed everything that I picked up.
We went up to the counter to pay and the manager gave us a discount on our bill as they had not put any fresh food out.
As it was late at night, staff from earlier in the evening were sitting down at tables and chatting away, and were given the chance to grab their own meals as well.
All in all, wonderful staff, wonderful management, wonderful food and wonderful service. Have never been to May Sum before but will definitely go again.
S. W.
Good price and thd food was lovely
A. W.
Always great food and friendly service. The buffet is table service but the staff are always around when ye want anything, great place and amazing food
И. Д.
Great service, great food, great Chinese tea. A little bit limited choice of vegetarian options and deserts, but the main courses are fantastic.
A. L.
Nice food, ashame the ice cream machine is always broken and the chocolate fountain is never full. The whole pudding section seems to get forgotten about
S.
Delicious, well stocked, busy, reasonably priced food and good prices drinks. Was really good fun eating.
I don't know what TEPPANYAKI is. I wasn't sure of this facility as part of buffet and I missed out.
Deserts need some attention, some things were dry and the sushi could have been fresher also.
Can also be not good on subsequent visits.
R. V.
A fairly wide range of dishes. Great food. Clean. Staff courteous. The chicken with pepper and black bean sauce was very good. Maybe a wider range of dessert would've helped, but overall a great place to enjoy a meal with family/friends (as it can get quite loud). Superb value for money. Would recommend !
N. S.
Me and my mate normally go for the buffet at lunch time, so that is all I can comment on.
The food is pretty consistent, there is a reasonable variety to please eveyone and it tastes as good as buffets go. P.S. the fish is really nice! The layout is modern but minimal, the staff are friendly and students get a discount. Costs £7.50 at lunch for the buffet with a student discount, so you can really get your moneys worth! ;)
N. T.
If you are looking for a fine dining experience, this place is not for you.
However if you have £8.90 and a very large appetite, this is your stop... its Chinese buffet.
Ambience is below par; and it is very busy - very crowded. But the food, although sloshing and slurping... is super fresh. And tastes okay.
K. T.
This place is one of the cheaper buffet places but it was never one of the better ones (I was always partial to red hot buffet shack). The food is 'fine' and all buffet style (no additional fresh food orders). Also whenever I go there's always a flashing light, wobbly table, broken sink etc. Rice is kept next to the chocolate fountain and not with the rest of the rice/noodles. Just little annoyances like these mean that this isn't somewhere I can recommend if you're wanting the best of Asian buffet style food but again it's cheap and hits the spot if you fancy it.
N. K.
Great food lots to choose from and brilliant service tables cleared quickly. Never without a drink as soon as glasses were empty someone came to replenish. Good value for money. Highly recommend.
k. K.
Just an average buffet and nothing special to remember. We were a family of five and the buffet area is too small to cater for that number of tables.food is just as average as any Chinese takeaway and nothing special.
Y. S.
due to the covid virus the buffet has gone, £14.95 (for both lunch and dinner) or £9.95 (for lunch) set menu. the sitting number has been limited for social distance. the food is still lovely plenty to choose from. kids loved it.
K. C.
Very good 9£ and eat No limit
S. M.
Was surprised how easy it was to book for 13 people during this covid outbreak. We were sensibly seated and enjoyed a tasty meal for my son's 16th with his friends. The staff are friendly and attentive. We stayed for 3hours but they were quite busy and the food was slightly delayed, but we'll worth the wait. Alcoholic beverages are reasonable too.
M. K. “. O. S. A.
Great restaurant only bad thing is that staff keep looking at you as if they want you to eat just one meal and get out of there.
G. J.
Good value Chinese buffet with a good range of dishes in the evening. Pleasant and attentive staff. Can get a bit noisy sometimes but only because it is popular and busy. Does what it's designed for if you are hungry for good quality Chinese.
K. S.
Good selection of dishes at a fair price. Most dishes are Chinese based.
Larger choice in evening but at at a higher price.
s. n.
It was really good but some of the food was cold. overal it was amazing
E. P.
Me and my family went to Maysum on Sunday the 26th January. I have been there before and I liked the food. It is always very busy, so I booked a table.
Unfortunately, it was not very clean, as it had some crumbles.
I went to the buffet to get some food and everything looked very appetizing, good selection to chose from.
I stopped at the one dish, not being sure if I want to , so I decided to have a smell . Using the big spoon provided I scoop some sauce and , keeping a reasonably distance from my nose and mouth, I smelled it. I am aware about H&S rules , so it wouldn't cross my mind to contaminate by touching it with my mouth or nose.
Then, something bizarre has happened; suddenly I felt a bang in my shoulder and it was rather strong. I turned around in surprise , and I found out that I was hit by a girl who works there. I asked: " did you just hit me?" and , with very poor English she said: " not allowed!! " and she called another member of staff for help. Young lad has arrived and with better English said to me that it is not allowed something like what I just did. I said, I understand and I assured him that it was from a distance but what this girl just did was unacceptable. He did say "sorry" but that was it.
Later , I saw a little boy running around chocolate fountain , biting his biscuit , dip it in chocolate, bite it again, dip it again........
I suppose it was okay , although I mentioned that to his parents.
T. D.
Quantity over quality, pretty tasty chinese with lots of choice. The beer served was not a good pint. The staff were good and very efficient.
A. W.
Good service. Nice food. Nice decor and clean. Eat as much as you want for a single cover charge. The lunch menu is the best deal. Walk ins are convenient but would recommend to book a table for larger groups. Drink prices are about average.
O. W.
Great Chinese all you can eat buffet with friendly helpful staff. Currently due to the pandemic you are served at your table but you can have as many refills as you like.
M. K.
Good value..
Good food..
Good service..
And I'm pleasantly stuffed...

Had some fresh made noodles at the bar place and they were abit under cooked but o was the first person there so it might have still been warming up. Apart from that our experience was delicious as always and we will be definitely returning once again as we are regulars. The manager seemed really nice and kept everything under the gun control staff were very friendly except from one who was cleaning place shouted at me because I got plate from the wrong pile
D. E.
The food was fine and good value for money
J. H.
Love this place. We have been many times food has always been good. It is restocked regularly and hot. Service is swift and adequate. Always very busy. Larger parties should book. Price is great for what is on offer. Never had a bad time yet. It is a fast food restaurant do not expect anything else.
C. A.
Food is always excellent quality good value for money only down side is that the desserts have no good selection 😕
I. M.
Busy, a bit expensive in their peak hours (Friday and Saturday dinner) but cheaper at other times. Huge variety in the buffet, including a fresh cooked grill option. Good for a quick hearty group meal.
k. b.
A really great place to eat food fantastic plenty of choice and always fresh and hot prices very reasonable staff very pleasant
X. F.
Really good atmosphere and great food. The reason this doesnt get a 5 stars is due to when I went to the toilet it looked like a potential horrific mixer scene. There was one dim light that worked consistently however the rest of them all flashed at different rates and different times. Not going to lie I was sat there accepting that death would consume me so after a quick splash and dash I continued to try and block that out of my thoughts and enjoy my meal.
L. B.
Average chinese food for a reasonable price. However the seats are far too close together so it feels like you're sat with the tables next to you. Also the food is warm but is never hot enough. Baring this in mind the staff are always polite, friendly and welcoming. All in all you get what you pay for.
J. K.

Great food for a decent price.
The rundown:
You enter and are greeted by a mysterious Asian who asks how many in your party and then proceeds to measure the altitude of your smallest group member for a percentage off the full price of admission to the feast. Once sat you may be asked what beverage will accompany your meal. Based on your choice you may roll a die to decide what sum amount of beverage you receive.
After you have finished round one a gong may be bashed which will summon your party to the feast. You must move clockwise around the island of food, selecting the most sumptuous pickings. It is customary to pile your plate so dangerously that food flakes off with every step you take. You may choose to eat all or virtually nothing from your plate and repeat this ceremony as many times as you wish.
If you follow the local custom, you will need to remove your belt or unbutton your trousers for full effect after the feast. Then proceed to make yourself as uncomfortably full from ice cream or chocolate.
You will pay a fair price at the bar, and you will leave the establishment as a prized pig leaves the daily slop trough.

Delicious food, loads of options. Definitely coming back
S. T.
The food was average, not the best but not the worst. Some of the plates were dirty and empty tables weren't cleaned straight away.
J. K.
Spectacular! The food was absolutely excellent, great service and lovely surroundings, but it's all about the food. So, so good!
M. a.
Very nice, pretty clean and great food. ☺ I go there every couple of months and I always have had a great experience. I definitely recommend this restaurant! 👌😊
S. F.
Food was good, service was diabolical, and the staff didn't seem to have any clue about the English monitary system!

May Sum is one of those restaurants to go to when you want food fast, and guaranteed to be good. A lot of the food won't blow you away but it is consistently good. You will leave feeling really full! I'm sure it's terribly unhealthy but at least there are a wide range of vegetable dishes to choose from. Service has generally been very good. Prompt clearing of plates, on hand for drink top ups, served quickly. If however you are on one of the tables hidden away in the corner, this isn't the case. Our last trip was particularly exhausting. But we forgave them due to the previous trips being good.
May Sum is also ideal for large groups. We celebrated a birthday once and their melon, ice cream, fruit whipped cream and sparklers concoction is fantastic. Quite an experience and very refreshing after a huge meal. Better than stuffing down cake!
P. B.
My wife and myself have been today. This isn't the first time and suspect that it won't be the last!
The £7.50 buffet is very good value the food was excellent and the staff very pleasant. The only fault,it could benefit from a makeover, particularly the toilets!
H. B.
It was better. Today I give only 2 stara.
M. E.
One of the best restaurants for Chinese food in Nottingham. I have been coming here ever since I was a kid and it has always been of high quality in terms of buffet food and it’s service as well. The prices are ridiculously cheap too, perhaps even too cheap for how much your able to get :)
Would definitely recommended coming during weekdays rather than weekends and public holidays to avoid long waits (also tends to be a lot cheaper per person during weekdays too).

An old colleague and l meet up in NOTTINGHAM FOR A drink and meal about 6 times a year. We meet in nice bar have a drink and go to our regular place for a.meal. but when we got there last week it was closed for renovation. A short distance away is the May Sum which we walked past every time to out chosen restaurant. So we went in there for convenience. glad we did now. The service was 1st class. the choice of Chinese was amazing and the staff were so friendly and efficient. Then to add to these factors we discovered when we paid our bill it was also significantly cheaper. We both agreed this would.now be our regular place to eat when we meet in future.
A. B.
All-you-can-eat buffet restaurant.
Whilst they dont have a huge range to choose from, it's all of a great quality, and regularly kept stocked up.
They're quick to clear your used plates and to keep you stocked up with drinks.
Very popular place and recommend booking.
A. G.
The food was lovely service was great and the none achoholic cocktails were lovely too.
M. F.
The food was decent but nothing special but it's an all-you-can-eat so you don't expect 5 star cuisine. Me and the Mrs both got up to get some food and when we came back they'd given our seat away. It was hilarious but definitely not good customer service.
T. T.
Excellent, as usual. My kids love it 👍
M. A.
Nice place for asian food. It has good varieties. Food quality is also great. Nice dinning area. Helpful staff. They have great discount for students but don't forget to get your university id with you to claim the discount. Recommended.
L. S.
Good cheep food usually lots of choice. They charge £4.99 for my two year old granddaughter to eat which I think is a bit steep. Maybe should charge £1 per year age until they are five this might reflect more the amount children eat
C. B.
Good, tasty food and clean environment. Hadn't been to an 'all you can eat' since the start of lockdown and would definitely recommend trying here.
B. C.
Great restaurant. Lots of choice, great value for money 👍
J. T.
it is really surprise me with this place as a buffet restaurant I wasn't expecting too much from this place. but everything is nailed on especially the sea food. the price is also reasonable and the staffs also very attentive and polite. all in all I would recommend this restaurant to my friends and family. well done may sum
A.
Great variety of foods available. Good seating areas but the only downside is customer service, some of the staff don't seem to acknowledge you. As soon as I walked in the price was getting thrown at me by the staff member as if I was going to do a runner. I asked to pay the bill and the women staff member didn't even say a word.I found her to be quiet rude, staff need to learn basic manners and customer service.
L. F.
This is my favourite buffet style restaurant. The food is always very good. Other buffet places offer Chinese that is a bit bland but this place is good. The desserts are basic but the Chinese food more than makes up for it. Friendly staff too.
S.
Nice buffet 😋 Very friendly, helpful staff :) Very tasty food :) Sadly, no beer for sale ( like said member of staff: temporary ) :)
T. S.
Good range of food and great price for a buffet. Really enjoyed, great for taking out friends and family.
R. D.
Nice place, nice staff, good food, acceptable prices, until now,I have tried a lot of Chinese restaurants, but this one is by far the best. Taste and aspect, amazing
M. W.
Went Thursday pm for £11.50 all you can eat. Decent selection of food and desserts and the standard was pretty good too. Place is looking a bit tired though and chair cushions were dirty. But still had a good feed.
G. M.
Usually I'm happy with everything here but this time the food was not really good special when we talking about dinner some of them was over cook some was under cook, when we went to complain to the staff they said for them is fine and the rest they wasn't very interested. A little bit disappointed..
S. N.
Good selection of dishes all well cooked and displayed . Something for everyone
L. T.
Typical Chinese buffet. Good food, excellent value.

Great food great price 5.50 for a decent size take away

MENU 🍲🍣
A good variety of Asian food avaliable. Food was tasty and trays were refilled fairly regularly. However, the duck was bone dry!
As for drinks, there was a decent priced menu with a large variety of cocktails.🍹
STAFF 👩🍳👨🍳
Waitering service was okay, but they didn't check on tables to see if drinks needed refilling.
There were no jugs/taps avaliable, so I found myself getting up and down to find a staff member to refill my glass of water.
TABLE 🍽️
Decent table by the window. Good size for two people to sit comfortably.
Unfortunately the neighbouring table was too close, it often felt as though we were on a table of four. So close it felt intrusive and it was difficult to get out to get food! 😖
It would of been nice if the tables were more spread out so that conversations felt more private.
BATHROOM 🚻
The bathroom wasn't clean. Quite a few of the cubicles were in an unhygienic state, e.g. dirty seats.🤢 After washing my hands, I made sure to use my hand sanitiser!
OVERALL ⭐⭐⭐
May Sum was okay. The variety of food was great, but the customer service and hygiene standards were poor.
M. T.
Very nice buffet meal. Although I did not want a drink, the waitress offered and gave me a free glass of tap water. Very good value for money. Will return when in Nottingham.
M. R.
Good selection of dishes especially after 6 PM. Friendly and helpful staff. Cleanliness is acceptable considering that place is normally busy. Recommended this place to everyone who loves Asian food since I'm a regular customer myself :-)
d. b.
Not the best table manners but they're friendly, ask before clearing your plate if you're seated and the food is good for the price. You'll have to ask what's in the food if you have allergies as it doesn't say when you're looking at the buffet.
V. P.
Always love this place - went with my family again recently, and you always know everyone will enjoy. My Dad loves it! Great value, and quality food. Good for big groups.
L. Z.
Nice place, into the city centre (just a couple of minutes from Old Market Square), wide range of food, tasty and good price (15 £ dinner menu including 4 starters, 3 main courses, 2 noodles/rice and 1 sweet).
A. “. P.
1st time visiting and enjoyed very much, there was just enough choice not to be overwhelming and delicious
R. M.
Been going here for years with the family.
Always great tasting food.
It helps that there is a car park directly across from them.
I would definitely recommend this all you can eat Chinese restaurant for great food and brilliant value for money.
Always book ahead at the weekends.
J. S.
Positive is the sufficient choice of dishes, the okay price of £7,50 for lunch time as well as the open times. Lunch is until 5pm. Unfortunately most dishes are a bit tasteless. Also too many deep fried items for my taste. The interior seems a bit worn out. However the chocolate fountain is a highlight!
L. S.
Went at 5pm so was still lunch buffet , the desert section is very poor . The diet coke I had was flat the place was not very clean at all so wouldn't go again. On the plus side when we was leaving the evening buffet looks alot better loads more choice
D. K.
Ok buffet for the price. Some of the curry meals were very heavily salted. However, the meat station was good (you select your cuts and the chef prepares them). Customer service was on point.
T. M.
Food was ok but a bit more expensive than last year when visited. The atmosphere/decor/service was not that nice.. You'd see that the owner /employees were not putting any effort at all.
L. G.
Is really satisfied for every person.. Anyone can find some food for his tastes.. Not to much to choose for vegetarians, only salads, rice, potatoes and maybe some beans, I am not sure... But it is indeed plenty different food... In the evenings you find the best, the drinks you pay separately, a little expensive ones, but we believe that is worth it.
A.
Nice food and staff, great setup. Surely worth visiting
S. B.
Was quiet today although staff need to stand back from tables instead of hovvering to take plates. Also on drinks menu it says Pepsi but it's not. It's either coke or a cheap brand. Water next time.
C. C.
Cheap and cheerful. Good quality for the price. Food can be a tad salty though.
J. F.
Cheap and cheerful, and by no means perfect, but the best buffet of its type that i have been to and a destination every time I am in Nottingham around lunchtime. There's a couple of seafood dishes and a chocolate fountain and drinks are reasonable. Just don't eat for a couple of days before you go.
C. C.
Buffet eat as much as you like style restaurant. Lots of chinese people use this restaurant and they've given it the seal of approval so who are we to judge their national food? They enjoy it so it must be good! Trays are always being filled back up so never run empty. And it's always busy even at traditionally slow times 3-4pm in the day.
T. J.
Good selection of asian food. Would be nice if they can refill the trays more often. Was here in a busy weekend evening. Many of the trays were empty and took long before they were refilled.
G. C.
Nice buffet, great customer service. Nice place to stop and eat when out shopping at Nottingham city centre. It's the third time I have been here and it's always been good. Kids love the food.
B. I. A.
Would recommend 💯
Each time I want a proper meal this is where I head out to. Lovely and yummy food, good environment and not to forget there is a student discount so all students can afford.
t. l.
Love the food and the workers are nice
G. B.
Food ok but can be a bit stale if the place isnt busy! Staff totally miserable and slow at clearing your plate from the last course. They never ask if everything is OK? Shredded duck is the worst I have ever had! very dry! Plates warm but often wet after being washed! Been to much better places.
a. l.
Excellent price on a Sunday afternoon before five, overpriced the rest of the time. Manager is rude and they have stopped accepting 'this is Nottinghamshire' discount cards despite this still being shown on the website. They said I should check before I ordered, well actually I think you'll find that the resturant are running false advertising and that they should remove this from the website. Manager and manageress are boring, lousey and soulless individuals who need to give a smile once in a while and stop with their false advertising.
T. G.
Visited for lunch on a weekday. Nice buffet with a fair amount of plates to choose from, affordable pricing and not too busy. I would recommend if craving chinese and looking for affordable options.
C. W.
Very nice place, very nice food and very nice service. Highly recommended!
R. M.
For a small price eat how much you can and choice what you like. Self-serving
s.
May Sum produce some of the best food I've eaten at a Chinese buffet and I have made it a mission of mine to visit as many as possible. Slightly more expensive than many others out there but the quality of food and the extensive list of pre-prepared dishes on offer more than appease any questions over the cost. There is also the option to have the food prepared fresh for you but I wouldn't have the patience, especially as the food is regularly topped up. I will definitely return and my only regret is that my new favourite Chinese buffet is almost 200 miles from my house.
L. R.
The food is at its best when its busy here and they are constantly refilling with fresh food. This is our go to restaurant for just pigging out on Chinese food. Prices are reasonable, but don't expect a nice quiet, romantic meal with your partner. It tends to attract a lot of questionable characters and rowdy crowds!
R. S.
Fill ya boots.......and ya belly!
Great early bird deals..... all you can eat!
If you don't leave full and satisfied then you've not tried everything.
Love the choice of beers and the chocolate fountain.....just make sure you leave space for desert!
B. A.
Tasty food with numerous choices. Drinks are bit expensive.
A. O.
Grandkids love the chocolate fountain! Last visit the place had gone down hill , chairs dirty , food not so good. Changed to Cosmos.
To be fair a year later daughter visited with her children and they had a lovely time , not checked but maybe they've had a revamp?
A. P.
Really nice food. Decent staff, very attentive and good atmosphere.
Slightly cramped in some areas but pretty much something for everyone.
K. Q. j. (. J.
Good range of hot food
W. E.
Nice range of food. Tasty. Lovely service. Amazing Price :)... Very popular for Sunday Lunch so a bit of a wait to get in but still moved on quickly.
K. B.
Medium sized buffet style Chinese food, has a select range of typical Chinese food you would order from a take away. Also has a small salad bar, cakes, sweets, and ice cream and a chocolate fountain. Service is quick and good.
R. V.
Always a pleasure I could eat the salt and chilli wings all day every day they ate phenomenal
J. W.
Nice atmosphere, great food, enjoyed the night out.
K. T.
Lovely food and good service
D. B.
Great. Went on Saturday lunch time. Busy but table's available. Good selection. Good choices for veggies. 8.95!!! Can't complain!!
L. W.
Was nice n all that. My only problem was the portion sizes they kept bringing.
B. A.
Good food. At £9 per head superb value for money.
N. O. (.
Went in with my friend and our friends, had a great time, lots of choice to choose from and all you can eat so can't complain. Not too expensive and friendly staff.
o. o.
Good place to eat variety. Customer service to, OK affordable with all you can eat the only issue is that considering neatness and been tidy, the restaurant need to do more.
S. E.
Quite busy at times the food can be hit and miss great place to go to try different types of food
E. w.
Great place with friendly and helpful staff. Good price for an all you can eat restaurant, its better to go when they open at 12pm though coz in the evening it's too full to move anywhere.
l. o.
All you can eat … yummy
W. S.
All you can eat - different times different prices. Fullfing meal not restricted to Thai delicacy. Bar also. Great place to fortify yourself before the cinema or an evening walk.
D. S.
May Sum is my favourite Chinese restaurant in Nottingham because it's an affordable and delicious indulgence. It's very busy due to the vast number of customers of all cultures and what attracts me is the sweet & sour chicken which is perfectly balanced and has crispy batter outside a moist chicken piece. There is a moderate selection of Chinese food and a small selection of western alternatives.
The atmosphere of the restaurant is fairly pleasant although somewhat poorly lit. There's good waiter service as they use modern day communications to organize their teams and it is local to the city centre just a short walk northwest.
I've eaten here over twenty times and have enjoyed it each time with no complaints and no illnessess, although I have only been a customer during the lunchtime hour.
Sammi T.
R. B.
Good food, lots of options and reasonably priced, however best to go in early as then you get the freshest food and later in the day they may run low on some of the dishes
K. k.
The phone manners was very poor. The food was not bad
T. R.
Wasn't as good as before covid no seafood 4.80 for a pint but what we did eat was beautiful
N. R.
My favourite all you can eat Chinese. Absolutely delicious. I'll be back soon.
L. W.
Excellent place to eat. Very reasonable price and you can fill yourself as much as you please. It is one of the best buffet restaurants I have been to.
d.
Visit this place very often and cannot recommend it enough. The food is delicious. There can be a few issues at times, sometimes they run out of some of the more popular items and drinks are a bit expensive
C. L.
Food did take a long time to come we was waiting around 45 minutes, but we did stay, food was very good though would 100% go again
E. G.
One of my favourite places to eat in the city. If you like chinese food then you will love this all you can eat buffet. Quite cheap and the drink prices are reasonable.
J. L.
1st this year i have ever been here this year, will definitely be back. Staff are so lovely. X
H. S.
Return visit and very pleased with the service, buffet style eat as much as you want. So you can try some dishes then go back and try different ones. All very good quality.
n. b.
Food was decent for the buffet price. Staff were not very enthusistic, and the owner/manager, who when taking the payment failed to acknowledge our existence, and just didn't seem happy to be there at all.
K. N.
Felt rushed, waiting at table for plates never going again rubbish 🗑
k.
Great food and a good selection! Miss the buffet but its still good, and great value for half price Mon-Wed
J. J.
What you expect for an 'all you can eat' buffet. It's mainly one cuisine. It's good for when you're hungry and out shopping or fancy a quick bite but I wouldn't go here for a special occasion. Food is good, it's always busy and friendly staff
T. S.
I remember this place when it was opened. It was amazing. Years go by, owner doesn't invest even penny piece back into business. Taste is still there but estetics of the place are appalling. Bathrooms are disgusting, generally dirty place. Shame
A. T.
Great place , great food.
R. B.
Good value for money and nice food. You find better quality food in the evenings when they charge more. Gets busy though so leave plenty of time
D. F.
Me and my children definitely enjoyed 😉 our meal.
C. P.
Always great food, but if your a fan of desserts its not alot of variety. Usually cone here if i want buffet food and have freindly staff but woman i paid the bill to was a bit rude
J. B.
Good variety of food although the quality wasn't great. Food not labelled adequately for allergens and when I asked one of the waitresses if any of the desserts contained nuts, her reply was "I don't really know!" Not really an appropriate answer when it could be a matter of life and death!
A. L.
Great the way they've got past doing the buffet, you make your choice at the table and they bring it to you food was amazing. 😁😁😁
S. B.
Definitely the best Chinese food I've ever eaten
N. G.
Food was amazing, loved the ice cream. Great variety as well to choose from. Will definitely come back if I get the chance👌
W. W.
Love it never had up bad food, Saturday is best more choices and the service is great and they keep it well stock of food always fill up
G. B.
Reasonably priced, food very good and staff very attentive.😁
L. B.
May Sum is an amazing all you can eat buffet. It's strictly Chinese food, but for them great cravings you may have one day, May Sum can treat your taste buds.
L. Y.
Went for lunch on a Saturday. Not a great deal of choice, some of the dishes were cold and the ice cream machine was out of order. Proberbly won't go back. But it was only £7.50 for eat all you can.
R. “. Z.
My favourite chinese buffet in the UK. When the full spread is out, it's fantastic. The food quality for a buffet is exceptional. It's great. Give it a try.
B. L. L.
Love the food and good prices. Evening time prices are different to day time prices as food selections change slightly. Come here all the time and never had to make a complaint
R. R.
Decent prices for a lunch (£7.50 per person till 17:30 - December 2017). Not a great choice but enough to enjoy. Rather poor choice of deserts.
A. M.
Good, friendly service, nice food, relaxed atmosphere.
l.
Amazing food and desserts, but charging customers on height isn't very reliable; unless you have lots of money on you. But still, amazing restaurant.
D. G.
Good selection of food, choice of drinks could be better, atmosphere was dull,I guess is due to lack of proper buffet and people
J. O.
I always like it in there. great selection of food. I haven't noticed anything about staff bn rude. on the other hand it can get packed n crowded at times which on most occasions have a negative impact on the cleanliness of the place.
L. D.
Nice food but sometimes food is cold and plates are cold
A. B.
Food is standard Chinese buffet but better than many others. Staff could be a little more welcoming. A smile goes a long way.
A. S.
A lot of people have posted negative reviews of this restaurant and I'm not sure why. I've eaten here several times and I've never been dissapointed with either the food or service.
Go and try it for yourself, don't let the negative reviews sway your decision.
A. L.
Service not at the top could be some improvement on this side, food ok, but not great, did try some tofu from the buffet , it was honnestly gross. £11,50 for a buffet all you can eat, if you like that give it a try.
S. R.
Great food as always
D. J.
Ive been going here since I was a child and I love it to bits, the food is always amazing and It's very hard to leave without my stomach full to burst
M. C.
Our favourite restaurant in Nottingham - kids love it here. Good value, and everyone always leaves full! Recommended.
J. W.
Good choice of Chinese buffet food. Always hot and pretty fresh as it's always busy. Staff are helpful. Good choice for a quick and cheap feed.
