R. G.Wow! This place is absolutely amazing! I would definitely recommend this restaurant/bar to everyone. The food is delicious, the drinks are great, the prices are excellent, and the quality is top notch. Honestly, the best burger I've had in months. The manager, Delma, was our server and she was fantastic. She was so friendly and chatty, she made our night infinitely better. The music was a good vibe and the toilets were clean. A perfect place to hang out and grab food and drinks with friends.

Three of us shared the carnivore platter with sides of burnt ends mash, coleslaw and chicken tenders (I personally didn’t like blood sausage and found the pulled pork rather dry) and my husband had the Doomsday Device burger (superb). The key lime pie was delicious. The gooey brownie dessert (which was served more like a sundae) wasn’t as good as I expected, it was chunks of brownie in a ton of ice cream and whipped cream. Good but not great. The key lime pie was great. Will definitely go back to try more!
T. L.Absolutely fantastic food, the service was brilliant as well. This has to be the best burger I've ever had. Just so juicy and the flavour was amazing. Yes it's expensive but my god you get what you pay for. Next time I'm in Notts I will be going back again. 10/10 :)
D. S.Good food and service but too expensive. We were a table of 7 that ate at the Red Dog Saloon on Saturday 30th May. The food was good as was the service. The food arrived in good time and the staff were friendly and attentive. I had the double LTB chicken burger and for a double it was £13.25. The burger came with no sides, so I ordered mac and cheese and that cost an additional £5.50, in what was only a small ramekin. A draft pale was also £5.50. Initially our total bill was over £208 including a %10 service charge and then we also found that over £19 of Coke and apple juice was on the bill which we didn't order. The staff were apologetic and refunded the amount. We all agreed that we enjoyed the food but felt it was overpriced and the fact that the burgers came with no sides was disappointing. We didn't leave a tip as a service charge had already been added. I'm not sure we'd go back because the prices are just too high.

I've been desperate for some Nashville Hot Chicken and saw that Louie's chicken is served here. We tried the hot chicken pieces, tenders and wings, all of which were delicious. The burgers were fantastic, too!
Really good service and they also have a good range of drinks and cocktails - if we weren't driving we could have easily spent a night here with a few too many drinks.

J. C.Had an absolute blast for my 21st. Chris the manager was absolutely fantastic, very accommodating and Jimmi was a superb waiter. I couldn't have asked for 2 better people to help plan and arrange my 21st especially on such short notice. The food was delicious, very tender and juicy. the cocktails were strong and tasty as well. B.The staff at the bar were OK can not make a cocktail tho the waiting staff were rubbish no one seemed to care what was happening I travelled for 50 minutes with my kids to try this place got burnt food for myself (I ordered one of each platter with my partner) wasn't great. Kids ordered different burgers and fries (there was 3 of them all had different things) they said the best thing they ate were the fries. They didn't even drink the milkshakes that took 15 minutes to come. I hate moaning about a place I have come to but this one was awful.had great expectations saw amazing reviews but honestly I was disappointed all this for £160 and an hour n half drive. Never again 😒

l. d.Went today for a birthday meal, staff were friendly but they didn't really wait on the tables which made it difficult if wanting and service or more drinks, the glasses were filthy all of them, portion size for price was a let down, burgers came out but then had another 5 minutes wait for the chips some of us had eaten the burgers before chips even came out, not very well thought out, asked for individual bills which came out all wrong and mixed up, a £10 bottle of wine from tesco they charge £33 for absolutely appalling, the best part of it was staff and other customers joined in singing happy birthday too our son which made his day. Wouldn't be in a hurry to go back unfortunately, very costly for what it is :(

Cons. Expensive, very poor service, menu options difficult to figure out (what comes with what and not the the best description), BBQ meat isn't great, no sanitizers anywhere, toilets on the 3rd floor, misinformation from staff regarding happy hour and food options.
Speaking by someone who has made there own smoker and has friends with top of the range smokers, this place really isn't great from smoked meat. The brisket was quite frankly laughable. If you want good smoked meat try Hickorys and you will see the difference 😉
A. G.Came for a works Xmas party. Ordered the spicy loaded fries and a carnivore platter, along with the pitcher of Camden pale.
Staff were friendly and attentive, always checking how we were and if we needed any drinks, sauces etc.
Wait times were fantastic and the food was absolutely fantastic. Perfectly cooked meats, BBQ ribs that just peeled off the bone, perfect brisket, delicious sausages and perfect loaded fries.
The onion rings are great too but the best side was the absolutely gigantic mozzarella sticks.
Will definitely be returning.

I would’ve preferred more seasoning and or better sauces to complimenting it. Maybe it was just the Philly Steak Burger 🤷♀️. But I don’t think I would come again. I would rather spend a bit more at a steak house that cook the meet better and season it to perfection. Or I’d rather spend less for a stick of butter.

W. T.Quite a confusing start as my girlfriend and I originally set out for an Indian (we have a wowcher booked). Upon arrival we were informed the Indian closed down two weeks ago (to which i expressed my annoyance as I rang to query the name of the company on my confirmation text for the booking).
However, the staff were extremely helpful and friendly. We spoke with the manager by chance at the end who is very pleasant.
The reason for only three stars is the price (to be fair, our price was in with the wowcher).
Good food (not amazing) but £15 for a burger without fries* , £6for a small bottle of beer is crazy prices. We probably won't be visiting again for that reason.

Tldr: expensive for what it is, very slow service, you can't wash your hands, won't be returning.
Seated swiftly enough but the queue was out the door and let a lot of cold in. Server's were quick to take our drink orders, then were back to take the food order before any drinks had been delivered.
Drinks were fine, far too much ice in both the hard and soft drinks for my taste. The rum punch bowl is large enough to share but you can tell its watered down far more than is needed.
Good took *forever* to get to us. The waiter who delivered the food was rude and unintelligible due to the loud restaurant. He ended up dumping all the food at one end of a long table and walked off, leaving us to work out if he said 'curly fries' or 'loaded fries'. And ended up with the mild and hot chicken dishes the wrong way round, only to realise when we tried each others food.
The food portions are hilariously small if you get a burger and hilariously large if you go for a tray or a chicken dish. The fries are fine, but would have preferred not the skinny chip style of fries in general. Onion rings are amazing.
Price wise it's on the expensive side, with us only having a main each and a side of fries and or onion rings, it ended up around 30 quid per person. No starters, no Puddings, only one or two drinks each, so on the high end of price for what it is.
10% tip is put on as a default and they ask you why if you tell them to remove it. I hate this as a pet peeve, weird way of charging customers, although I normally let it go the serve just wasn't worth it.
Oh. And the mens toilets have 3 sinks, 2 of which don't have taps, and the 1 with a tap doesn't have a top on it, so you have to fiddle with the plastic bit that's under where a handle should be. So you basically can't wash your hands.
Got in there for before 6, didn't leave till half 8/9 and that was all basically due to the slow service.

S. P.Good BBQ restaurant in the centre of town. Quiet when I went however the service was friendly and attentive. Went for the chicken wings for starters which we’re tasty with the blue cheese sauce. The meat platter was amazing. The pork ribs were tender and melting of the bone. The beef brisket was also very good and I didn’t have to pay a supplement to have them. Definitely would recommend if you’re looking for a causal BBQ restaurant. Will be back for more!
m.Quite busy when I went but the service was still good, and the food was amazing - highly recommend the "Philly Cheese Steak Fries". I got the Chilli Burger which wasn't the greatest; however the burger was still good and tasted nice. Nice vibe and location - would recommend!
R. H.This was the first bar we found upon arriving in Nottingham, although the outside didn't grab our attention, the lunchtime burger offer board did. We were super tired and hungry and the staff placed us in a quieter area away from the noise and doors. The waiter immediately brought me a cuppa whilst we looked at the menu. We went for two different burgers, fries and drinks and it was all really enjoyable. Despite being busy several different members of staff popped over to check on us throughout our visit so we felt very welcome and happy in the knowledge if we needed anything they'd be on hand. It was clean and had a lovely atmosphere. The toilets, although a wee trek, were clean. We'd definitely return if we visit Nottingham again.

K. L.The style and design of the restruant is a great dark wood colour throughout. Lots of menu options and tasted great. Freshly cooked. Sides these days are extra to your meal. Expect a surcharge added to your bill, then also a mean look asking with body language for an additional tip. A customer when I there was given a heavy frown from attempting to buy just a pint at the bar. It's good, but it's not going to be a regular place

The food was INCREDIBLE. Some of the best meat I've ever had (we had the beef rib, pork ribs, brisket and 1/4 chicken). Very clever menu in that you can have a platter with any selection of the meats available and you can choose by weight. As such, you can try stuff you aren't sure about and load up on the things that you know you like.
The portion size was great for the price.
Highly recommended and would go again.

G.We called in here at around 3pm on a Wednesday and it was very very quiet, infact we were the only ones in here for most of our visit! Needles to say service was excellent, and quickly accommodated any requests we had. The meal shown was about £14 and certainly a mouthful! The music playing in the background was excellent too.
All in all a good time had here, must be good as my American fiancée found it acceptable. (unlike the amount of calories we consumed here!)

I visited today with my other half and upon arrival were completely ignored by a member of staff who actually barged past us to go outside to serve someone else, not the best way to start a meal but I digress.
Upon getting the menus service seemed pretty efficient but 30 minutes later we still had no drinks whilst new tables came in around us, eventually our starter came with the drinks which were alright but costly for jalapenos and pickles in batter £6.50 for a small plates worth.
The main courses took another 40 mins on top of that time so our arrival at 12:45 meant we didn't leave till 2:10pm a long time for burgers! The burgers eventually came (other later arrivals got served before us which wasn't expected) and they were okay but you don't get fries as a side, or even coleslaw or anything else, just a literal burger on a plate, the fries are overpriced at £4 for a small bowl each and the burgers start at £10 so it gets super costly quick, then they also have the audacity to charge a service fee it is discretionary but still £50 almost for two burgers and soft drinks is a little steep, this isn't Annie's burger shack or five guys but yet they charge like they are.
Will probably visit again but in a lunch menu weekday, two hours for burgers is a little silly.

M. C.The food was okay but could be better. The atmosphere might be okay, but we were sat in the adjacent Indian restaurant (despite booking a week in advance) and it was empty and music was quiet. Staff were friendly and attentive however need training. I asked if the brisket was smoked and the reply was "Um, maybe I'm not sure sure" which left me wondering if they didn't know or if they didn't want to lie (the menu states that it is smoked using hickory wood). The meat was cooked perfectly, although no smoke ring and no smoke taste which was very disappointing. The cocktails (I recommend the smoky old fashioned) were very good and the sides (try the beans) were fantastic. I would go back, but I would probably order a burger and not the 'smoked' meats. Shame, as a good BBQ restaurant could be doing very well.

*I'm not sure whether the pitmasters are American or not. (This matters because if they are they deserve a 2😫, I think they're not...in which case not bad👍🏾).
*I am American and grew up eating most of what they had on the menu. (Except the pit beans)
*There was only one dish we didn't like (but still had potential!). The issue was it was far too salty.
3 stars because it has potential! It's ok. Not good, and not bad...but could be good maybe even better!!!

The additional side was pit beans.
I think they may be banking on the big portion size typically offered back home. Well they nailed that! Everything is super sized, there is no way you can leave there hungry. (unless you hated the taste of everything which again is unlikely)
The beef rib was ok. Ideally it'd be more juicy than greasy and there'd be a nice smokey flavor that'd compliment the sauce. The sauce was decent but not enough given. The pieces of meat directly attached to the bone were tasty with and without the sauce. Flavor was intense at the bone level like a high quality beef jerky. The top was too chewy. Beef ribs are not easy to get right but the points I raised here can be fixed
Philly fries were good. They were too generous with the cheese which made the fries soggy and too salty. This can be fixed.
The pit beans were smokey and over salted. This is the only thing we didn't like and sent back. This can be fixed.
My drink was Arnold Palmer, iced tea + still lemonade. Huge positive is they seemed to have used fresh lemons. When we had fresh lemonade growing up we learned we had to remove the lemons by the end of the day or the rind begins to take over and the flavor takes a turn for the worse. No amount of sugar could save it. Again this can be fixed.
Value for money 🤷🏾♂️. Based on that experience it's a no because it was almost £70 for 2 adult meals that were just ok.
It's not bad but I believe this place could be good and maybe even amazing.

T.Great food. If you're a meat lover you'll love this place. Quite expensive. 2-4-1 cocktails at certain times which is great.

The food was great with massive portions offering great value along with a large food and drinks menu.
If you've never been before you will definitely re-visit as we will be and if you get the chance too get the beef rib.....do it as I have never come across these before and mouthwatering.

Even with the 50% off with the eat out to help out scheme it still didn't cost me any less than usual without ordering a drink. The menu has really been stripped back with much less choice of food, everything is a la carte, and it feels like it's more expensive than it was before (but don't quote me on whether it actually is more expensive). Staff were lovely, but it seemed like they felt rushed trying to deal with customers coming in through different doors depending on whether they wanted Indian food or American food.

Be warned though, if you like your beef well done you'll need to request that as the burgers are wonderfully pink inside. The menu is fairly limited in range of food - burgers and smoked meat - i guess you might say it expensive for a burger (mine was a double at £15) but it truly was the best burger I've ever eaten. Unlimited iced tea was a nice bonus as i necked 4 glasses. Honestly, if you appreciate a quality burger check this place out!

V. E.The rib of beef and brisket melt in your mouth and are full of flavour. We had loads of food and didn't waste any of it! The loaded chips, onion rings, refreshing coleslaw and sausage sides were awesome too. I can't stop thinking about it since we went. It was super quiet on a Tuesday but service was great for it. 2 for £10 on cocktails too which was nice. So much better than Reds true BBQ down the road.
J. T.The best burger I've had since being in America. Been there 3 times now and the food is great. The reason for the low stars is, a 10% descretionry service charge is added to your bill. If I want to leave a tip for good service then I gladly will, but I won't be shamed into it by having to ask to have the charge removed if I feel the service is not worth tipping. Which is my second gripe, the service is nothing great.

12/05/18: service was lacking. The food came before the drinks and even then we had to remind the staff. Food itself wasn't bad but the table agreed it was overall a bit bland. Don't think I'll be coming back.
N.Burgers were lovely, fried pickles were ok, but the pit beans were awful. Tasted like cheap tinned beans with a few bits added to make them taste better but they tasted very salty. Macaroni cheese tasted tinned. Also an item was missing. Instead of the fries I orded they sent a different ones, but when i opened the box instead of what was written in the lid it turned out to be barbecue chicken wings covered in sauce which I'm not fond of.

We orded a carnivore platter on the menu it states minimum of 2 people at £17.50 then you pay extra for your sides, fine. But when we received the bill it had charged us £35. 00 just for the platter. On questioning the serving staff I was told its because two of had eaten it. On explaining you have to have a minimum of two people to order it in the first place to then me charged twice, the server said I agree it is misleading I'll let my manager know. It was nice of her to pass on the information. However don't get scammed like we did!

Only thing I’d say that was negative was burgers are abit expensive and don’t include chips/fries.
Other then that this place is one of my favourite places to eat.

In fact it was one of the best burgers I have ever had - 4 parties of meat, smoked bacon, juicy brisket on top, smelly soft American cheese and pretty good sauces on the side. So if you want a great burger this is a place to go. On the other hand you will have to deal with unedecuat stuff not being there, not knowing what cocktail's are made out of or saying that the portion of clearly wrong fries is the fries you ordered. Made me feel stupid. Again, can't complain about food, location or area, it is all great. People working here are not trained enough to make a customer happy. It is also a bit pricy but that should not influence your choice much.

M. W.Burger was pretty decent although felt expensive for what you actually get and was very unevenly salted, with an extremely salty side observed during the eating. Very little distinction observable between the patty and the Philly cheesesteak on top of mine. However the onion and burger sauce underneath were excellent. Fries are disappointing, more like Burger King fries with a coating to make them crispy instead of actually cooking them properly.
Milkshakes are enormous, thick and delicious, although by the time you get to the end they're pretty tedious. Coke comes with way too much ice to feel like anything other than a money grab.
Claims to have the best burger in Nottingham. Difficult to say really due to differences in style but it's not true. They're good, but I don't feel like the experience around them was good enough, and a little more care with the seasoning is also required.
T. L.Took my visiting family (5 of us) to Red Dog Saloon following recommendation from one of my friends. Booking a table was very easy through OpenTable although probably wasn't necessary since the restaurant wasn't rammed (it was a Sunday evening).
The first thing you notice about the restaurant is the lack of light. I guess it is part of the American BBQ aesthetic but we felt it was too dark - tables were only lit by some dim fluorescent lights and tiny candles. One of the party even had trouble reading the menu!
The staff there were very eager to serve with multiple individuals asking whether we wanted drinks or were ready to order. However, sometimes they were quite slow in responding to our needs such as refilling the jug of water.
The food is quite expensive - we spent ~£60 between the 5 of us - and portions are quite small. However, the meats are very well cooked and delicious, although I would've liked more on my plate. I would warn to avoid the salads as they are quite bland and not very appetising at all.
I can say that I've tried it but I don't think I will visit again.

L. B.We had a booking and were seated quickly. All 6 of us did the 90 minute bottomless brunch prosecco but didnt find it worthwhile as it took way too long to bring our drinks. We suggested that they leave the bottle with us instead of going back and forth giving us new glasses. One waiter was happy with this but one didn't seem too pleased. After our second bottle he told us this would be our last bottle despite us waiting quite a long time to even get our drinks. Bog standard food, nothing particularly special about it and the portion sizes were a little small. I don't think I would return.

P.Nottingham has a strange habit of having a lot of gimmicky restaurants that last roughly 12-18 months before closing. I hope this one doesn't fall into that category.
Anyway, food was very good, but didn't match up to the price unfortunately. £12 for just ribs is a bit much, and I think including sides into that price point would be more palatable.
Service was mixed. At first we had the wrong orders brought, and it was generally slow despite being a relatively calm time of day - but later it picked up and was an over good experience.

M. w.We visited Red Dog on the first Wednesday of this place opening. There were 3 of us, two of whom went for the beef burger (The Punisher and The Texan) and the other went for the chicken burger (The Southern Bell) and some wings.
Although we appreciate a pink burger, we felt that these burgers were a little under cooked and slightly fake looking (surprised with how pink the beef actually looked- maybe it was just the lighting though). The chicken wings were good although they also had a pink tint to them- maybe due to their cooking method? and the chicken burger was alright. The fries were slightly under-cooked and overly salty for my preference. The brisket on the burger of the Texan was very good and the beer was nice.
Overall I feel there are better places to visit due to this place being very slightly over priced (£21 each for a burger, side and a beer). Worth a visit but feel Annies is better for burgers and Bunk is better for wings. Will try and visit again soon to try out the ribs and the other smoked meats as overall it was a nice atmosphere and feel like it needs a 2nd chance.

K. A.Food was good but the staff seemed new. Server had to be urged to take our drinks order as he seemed like he wanted to leave before we could ask for any iced tea at all. Came back to the table a few minutes later to ask if we were being served, despite him being our server. The food then came 20 minutes later, without drinks. We had to be asked again for what we wanted by another kind waitress who brought them over and told us that the drinks were on the house as an apology.
Then the original server then came back, gave us our bill, and added the cost of the drinks anyway.
Chalk it down to one pretty miserable server that the experience wasn't 4 or 5 stars because the food really was excellent. Though I'm not sure about the rub being added to the brisket AFTER it was done. A rather odd choice, but it was still cooked nicely regardless.

A lot of staff turnover meaning service in any bar or restaurant is often hit and miss because here in the U.K. The service industry isn't seen as a proper career so people just use it as a stepping stone through education. Anyway I mention that because I think the main issue here at Red Dogs Notts is the pretty poor service. I've been three times and each time there's been a service issue. Drinks aren't correct and food brought out often incorrect. The food itself is ok but hardly traditional American. The pulled pork sandwich is served on a brioche bun which is a joke tbh. Some of the meats are ok but nothing's properly smoked and the loaded fries are often hit and miss. It's ok and the bars nice decent ambience and good selection of drinks but the reality is these types are places are run by people who are just doing it for the summer etc and there's no desire for excellence because they are not emotionally involved. And I can't blame them being paid minimum wage and having to deal with the public BUT this isn't anywhere near traditional American BBQ. It's just an ok experience nothing wrong with the place but nothing to write home about. Pricing isn't clear either - a twelve quid burger and needing to spend a further fiver on fries I'm sorry but I expect a much higher quality experience.

G.Arrived without booking and shown to a seat and ordered drinks had 2 milkshakes one strawberry one jd vanilla which were both lovely we ordered ribs and chicken and a blue cheese burger and a portion or fries each ribs were crispy on the outside and very tender throughout and some of the best ribs I've eaten the chicken was good as well and my partner said the burger was one of the nicest she's eaten the food came incredibly quickly and the staff were very pleasant and seem genuinely concerned about whether or not you enjoyed ur food all in all one of the most pleased dining experiences of my life and recommended to anyone that enjoys bbq especially ribs
