I had a fantastic experience at Dirty Bones. The service was top-notch and exceptional, the waiters were very attentive and prompted us at the right time. I wish other restaurants were that good. The food and cocktails were fantastic as well, we had: mutt’s nuts, the mac daddy and truffle fries. I highly recommend all. Overall, this is a business very well run, and I look forward to coming here again.

Great service and mostly great food, taking a star for a disappointing burger. BUT excellent chicken, the hot wings were a great starter and my wife loved the chicken and waffles 👌🏻 it was a birthday feast and the ambiance, service and general feel of the restaurant was a great experience all round. Decent small plate food and lovely staff. The deco in the restaurant really does make you feel like you’re in a fancy American bar. The food is good but I didn’t enjoy the cheeseburger gyoza’s however the chicken waffles were on point, each to their own.

Absolutely lovely, the food was fantastic, photos don't do it justice, we had mac cheese balls, cheese fries, lamb fries, burger dumplings and the mac daddy burger. Can't falt the food, drinks were lovely too. Only reason for 4 stars was the service lacked a little... and not because it was busy, we had to ask everytime for drinks, yet staff were standing there, just be a little more attentive to customers and this could have been a 5 star winner if your reading this dirty bones! .. food is top notch otherwise.

This place is great if you’re looking for a “classic” American BBQ experience. The menu has all the classics: brisket, pork and beef ribs, fried chicken and all the sides you would expect (mac ‘n’ cheese, dirty fries, etc.). They also have a wonderful range of cocktails. The quality is fantastic. The service is also en pointe. All the staff are very friendly, attentive and eager to please. The only reason for the loss of one star is due to the price. This place would be great for a few people or a group.

Quite a nice place with a unique selection of dishes and drinks. The mac n cheese balls were not great - tasteless and overpowered by the not so pleasent ginger sauce. Apart from that service and interior was alright.

Lovely food and atmosphere. Came here for a team dinner and the place was a lot nicer than I expected. Probably somewhere where I would expect smart casual dress code. Food was nice, we ordered some starters and for my main, I had the chicken and waffle. It didnt look much but there were 2 very large pieces of chicken thigh, the chicken was juicy on the inside and crispy on the outside. The waffle was really nice, very soft on the inside and was actually better than a lot of waffles I've had.

We’ve been here today for the first time for my birthday and I can’t explain how good the food was. We ordered padron peppers, fried chicken and truffle fries. DELICIOUS!!! I never eat such a good chicken anywhere before and I am quite fussy with the food. The staff was very nice and friendly. Cocktails are very good too. I can’t remember very well the name but was Clementine …?… very good. I highly recommend this place!!! When we will be back to Oxford we will definitely have our lunch, dinner here again.

Visit if you like dry, highly-seasoned, rather salty meat. But if you like gravy, sauce, or meat-and-veg this may not be the place for you. We had Flat Iron Steak (which we expected would be like steak with pepper sauce) and Chicken and Waffles (which we expected would be like the traditional US dish, either covered in gravy or with butter and syrup). The pictures show what arrived, and food at the next tables was similar. The decoration and quality of service were excellent though.

Always a great experience at Dirty Bones. Went on a Wednesday night for a birthday treat and it was much quieter than the usual weekends when we go, which was nice. Our server was fantastic and made the experience great. Ordered the Steak special and the chicken and waffles which were delicious along with some sides and cocktails. Definitely recommend.

We were recommended Dirty Bones by a friend as one of the best places to eat in Oxford. However, it was rather underwhelming. The prices were very expensive for a single burger and fried chicken with no sides. We ordered fries separately and these were average at best served lukewarm. Service was good and the waiting staff were very friendly. I do feel the 12.5% service charge was not justified though.

Very dirty burger place! The menu had a selection of beastly burgers however I had to try the chicken with the sauce offerings. The chicken was amazing and the sauces were also incredible! However I would’ve loved to have seen chips included with each menu item and also the dips available on the menu! My first experience of Dirty Bones in June 2021 was brilliant, but when I returned a year later it was like the gloss was fading. The waffles were still good, but the chicken was overcooked - on the brink of being burnt. It just seemed like the attention to detail had slipped along with standards. The waiting staff were functional where previously our server was enthusiastic and sold their product. Thankfully the Miso fries were still decent, but I just won't be in a rush back here - Dirty Bones had made Oxford a destination for me - not anymore. Just average.

Lovely place - go with an appetite! Not usually a fan of mac and cheese but I gave the balls a go for a starter and they were SO nice. For main, I had the skinny onion fries and beef and mac burger. I wish I hadn't had breakfast as I couldn't finish it all but at least I know for next time. My partner had ribs and lamb fries which he says were amazing. Would love to have tried the cocktails but was unfortunately driving. Quick service considering it was a busy Sunday and it had a really nice decor and vibe. Overall 5/5.

I'm not gonna lie this is only getting three stars cos the waitress but anyway we walked in thinking ooh nice lets have some scran then the receptionist greeted us said hi and said she was gonna seat us at the table which was between two full tables, so we asked to sit in a booth instead as id recently just came out of shielding and just by looking at her face you would've thought we were asking her to walk around the entire face of the earth. She fully started huffing and puffing and rolling her eyes in every damn direction while taking us to the booth. Next minute we were at the table and I kid you not she was blatantly slagging us off to her colleague and looking at us like we'd berated her for taking us to a different table. After that though it was fine because the waitress served us and i was back to having a good time again so thank you for that, But to the woman in the blue polka dot blouse and white trainers on either learn some manners or quit your job because your going to always have customers making different requests in the hospitality. Thanks chelsea you were slay though :D

I loved it, the decor was great, service was terrific and most importantly, the food was fantastic. I had the fried turkey and waffle and it was probably the best meal I have had in the UK so far, the turkey was crispy on the outside and perfectly cooked( it tastes so much better than it looks ). As a side I had the crispy brussels sprouts with cranberries and it was out of this world. Definitely a fan... I am not a big eater but I left nothing on my plate! Had no room for desert unfortunately. Again best meal in the UK so far!

I could talk about the delicious, rich Mac daddy burger with the creamy Mac n cheese in. Or the perfect crispy lamb fries with equal parts sweet and spicy. But it was the fries chicken that made this meal. This chicken was beautifully crispy whilst still being juicy and moist inside, served with a nice garlic sauce complimenting it. The fried chicken is served as a full or half pile. The half pile was a nice size to be a shared side between me and my friend. There's a nice selection of lagers and IPAs on tap. Service was quick and the staff were friendly and polite. Dirty bones is pricey but I think the food is worth it.

Greeted with a smile, taken to a very nice clean table. We were greeted by our waitress and ordered some drinks. I had an Austrian lager and my partner had a (rather delicious!!) Cherry soda. Then we ordered our food. I had the classic burger with cheesy truffle fries. My partner had the BBQ ribs. Both were absolutely amazing. The fries were so tasty. Chips sadly don't come with the meals and when you order food, It can be quite small and the luxury food is quite expensive, however the milkshakes are nice and the menus are written very well. I would only recommend you come here if you want to spend a lot of money on the food.

American mix of foods, fried chicken (+ waffles) and Buffalo hot wings stood out to us. Ofc they do burgers and hot dogs too, but that's for another time I suspect. The buttermilk chicken is a dirty bit of chicken done right. Greasy and juicy, with a good bit of crunch to cover it. Boneless to boot. Definitely a recommend. Plus waffles and maple syrup is also a great choice and I will definitely come back for these next time. Buffalo hot wings were a bit dry in all honesty and a bit disappointing. The sauce was good, but it wasn't enough to save the dryness and the weak coating on the wings themselves. Go try the fried chicken, we'll be back for the burgers and hot dogs later on.

The decor of Dirty Bones is very modern and the atmosphere is very chic inline with some pseudo-American ideas of a smoky New York basement bar. Service was very quick, but sloppy and we had to call the waitress back for our drinks order. The food quality though was lacking and for what we got I felt it was incredibly overpriced.

In all honesty the food was average at best. Chicken was dry, pretty sure it was overcooked and the chilli burger had no heat. It was okay, but not for the price. Sorry! However the server, Selina, was a great host. She picked out some cocktails for me when I told her what I liked, was very attentive and generally saved the visit. Good food but pricey. IMPORTANT: Mains don't come with sides, you must order them separately. The atmosphere here was great, felt like I was in downtown New York restaurants and I've never been to New York. The food was perfect and I loved every bite, possibly the best burger I have ever had. My only complaint is the price, as food comes separately from sides, I paid £12 just for the burger and for as good as it was I wouldn't say its worth the price. Our side of chips came out to £6 each, which again were delicious but considering that most other restaurants offer a main and a side for around £13 or as a deal for around £15. The entire meal didn't feel like it was worth £18, not including drinks. But the only thing stopping me from coming back is the forced Service charge. Now I don't mind paying a service charge, I would have been happy to but I always refuse to go back somewhere when this is forced on me. What if the service was bad? It wasn't but that is not the point. its a principal of value, Service charges should be earned not expected.

We got a burger each and some bloody good sides. We also had some bloody mary’s (old hair of the dog you know) and now we are feeling ace. Was a nice experience, good atmosphere to catch up with friends however the disappointing part was the portion size when it comes to the food, when we ordered mains they came with nothing, not at least a side of cheapest leafy salad or some fries! Just bear in mind on top of the main prices you have to add side dishes as well! When I ordered the chicken and waffle main it came as a starter portion 2 pieces of chicken on a half waffle… like why wouldn’t you let the whole waffle in the plate! So what’s the difference between a starter size and a main size cause you have that on both starter and main section on the menu?! Also when I made the booking you guys asked if there is a special occasion which it was, our friends they just got married and then the hostess asked us again when she sat us at the table… just wondering why as you guys didn’t really offered a glass of Prosecco or anything… Another thing I didn’t like was the Funny taste of the crispy batter on the chicken, like they didn’t change the cooking oil for a long time… I rated 4 stars just because of our waiter, Diego who was nice enough to be patient with us! Very friendly and attentive!

Today I had dinner at Dirty Bones with my friends this evening. I had the vegan burger, which was ok but tasted a bit like meat. The mac and cheese balls were quite nice. The fries were nice. However the drinks were too strong and only tasted of pure spirit instead of a cocktail.

My friends said the sticky toffee could have been stickier, and that the toffee should be less runny but thicker. There's one fairly basic vegan/veggie main dish and it is really quite pricey for what you get (£12 for a basic veggie burger with no sides - maybe at least throw some tomato or lettuce on it...). Meat options apparently tasty, my partner loved the chicken and waffles which were the reason we went there (and cheaper than the veggie main...).

Lovely naughty food. We had a very decadent burger with delicious skinny fries as a side and some good fruity IPA. The sticky toffee pud was decent and different enough from the usual pub fare. The sea salt that comes with it really does make it very rich but is an optional ingredient on your plate. Service was fast and friendly 👍

At the end of the day, after realising, I sent them a message through their website. I returned the next day, to be greeted immediately and given my bag with 2 phone chargers inside! We went for brunch and the biggest problem is that the Breakfast Club opposite is better (and busier). The service was good and the food was tasty, but the portions were a bit small and you have to get a side seperately. The kids food seemed to be much better in terms of portion size and looked great. The atmosphere was ok and I suspect it is better for evening cocktails than brunch. It was virtually empty at 11ish, whereas opposite people were queuing to get into the breakfast club.

This is a odd.resteraunt, when going to the place I didn't really know what I was getting myself into, one look at the menu and you will see many things that you may think will be horrible, chicken on waffle for instance is a off combination but it works really well. The drinks are also amazing, my main corse was a burger with Mac and cheese on it as well as pulled pork. This meal works so well and it is a delight to eat. Five Stars, if you are nearby it is worth going.

I'm an American transplant in Oxford, so when I walked by Dirty Bones, I had to try their food. Their menu says that they are 'New York' inspired, but their menu is a hodge podge of food from all over the US. I don't mind that as long as the food is good. And some of it is, but it's seriously over priced for what you get. Pros: 1.They have RANCH DRESSING (which you can only get in the UK if you buy it from a special US import store). And they have Jalapeno Cheese Sauce (it's slightly grainy, but they still have it). Their fries are tasty, so get the sauces on the side and yum. The only reason they get three stars is because of Ranch Dressing and Jalapeno Cheese Sauce. Otherwise it would have been a generous 2. 2. The atmosphere is good and the music fits. Cons: 1. The wait staff seem a bit out of sync. They didn't notice when my table needed things. When we ordered dessert, mine came about 20 mins after my kids, and after I asked for the bill. 2. The chicken and waffles while tasty as hell are overpriced at £11 a plate. Two *small* pieces of chicken (leg and a thigh or eensy breast - hard to tell, on bones) and a half a Belgian waffle. For £11 it should be a whole waffle and 3 pieces or more, especially with the size of the chicken pieces. My burger was *okay*. By English standards it's fair to good, but not great. By American standards...it's forgettable, I can get an epic burger back home for half the price (from a place with good atmosphere, not a dive). 3. I wasn't sure it was even open. When we walked by the front there was a manager in a booth with a laptop and papers all over the place. You don't realise that this is the bar in the front and the restaurant in the back. Having the manager perched right at the entrance doing work gave it the impression it was closed. We almost walked by and went somewhere else but decided to check. 4. Table of 3 and they do a forced 12.5% tip. I get it for large parties...but we were THREE. This bothered me for two reasons. First, I would have tipped more (I do a standard 15-20%), so it ended up screwing the waitstaff. Second, no one should be forced to tip, especially if the service is bad, and it wasn't epic so the forced tip should be removed. All in all, I would go back there for the novelty of my kids being able to order chicken and waffles in the UK. I would stick to fries and dips myself, the food isn't worth it for the price. I could see this being a good place to drink at while snacking on fries, beyond that feels like a rip off. You can tell that this menu and the execution was crafted by someone English trying to be American and charging you much more than they should for what you get.
