Reviews of Lula's Ethiopian and Eritrean Cuisine

I have known Lula's Ethiopian since she had a stall at the Gloucester Green Market, preparing freshly made, lovely food - the definition of homemade comfort food which is also healthy and nutritious. Now whenever I want to take my friends to a place where the atmosphere is homely and the food is delicious, this is where I head. You will feel like you came to auntie Lula's for a visit and she just wants to give you all the best things to eat! Their new space in the Community Works is welcoming and casual, giving off family warmth and the feeling of comfort. The food options are traditional Ethiopian Cuisine, including injeera, fosolia, habesha hamli, gomen, shiro, lentils. There are vegan options but also meats like lamb and chicken, cooked to perfection, tender and full of flavour. You can get Ethiopian beer and tea, too. There's really nothing not to love, and the hospitality is exceptional. Lula and her family truly created something special here, and I'm always back!

OUTSTANDING FOOD AND SERVICE. Lula, her son and the other lad (sorry not good with names) are amazing hosts! Having grown up around Eritrean's in South London, I am familiar with the cuisine, and Lula's exceeded expectations. The Ethiopan Beer is so good that I took 2 home for later. :) Very Very Tasty food and prices are reasonable too!
CAME IN A PATRON AND LEFT AS FAMILY !

This place is absolutely fantastic and completely deserves its high rating.
Came here for dinner and had a wonderful time, without burning a hole in our pockets to boot. The food was delicious and gave us a taste of ethiopian/eritrean food - we got a golden platter of spicy chicken, another one for lamb, and a few separate dishes with rice and all were amazing. The meats were so tender and flavorful. When paired with rice or injera, a slightly bitter and sour pancake/bread, it was simply sublime. I loved the spices of each dish as well.
Service was excellent! The chefs and service staff were a joy to talk to and attended to us quickly, and the food came around fast too. The atmosphere of the restaurant was great - a modern vibe with a few nice Ethiopian decorations.
We will be back for more!

Amazing, authentic and tasty Ethiopian & Eritrean food at this new space. Great vibe. Good portions and an excellent family team. Definitely worth a try. Also vegan options!

Absolutely delicious! We had the spicy chicken with injera, washed down with spiced Ethiopian tea. You get loads of food and the service is quick and really welcoming. The huge added bonus for us is that everything is gluten free, even the injera which we’d always assumed was made with wheat flour. Overall highly recommended.

Travelled from Brighton to see the sights and after reading the reviews opted for Lulas for lunch. Absolutely amazing spicy chicken! Such a friendly welcome and the recommendation for the honey wine greatly received. Delicious chocolate cake followed. 3 vegan cakes (and a bottle of the honey wine) travelled home with me. You deserve your reviews and keep up your excellent customer service. Thank you to you both. A

Absolutely brilliant. Superb food and service. This place is a must visit for anyone spending time in Oxford. The food is authentic, unfussy but utterly delicious. Lula and her son Matthew are also charming hosts. Highly recommended.

We ordered a fine platter of vegetarian food, alongside some lesser seen Eritrean beer - great to see this long-time derelict unit up and running and doing something a little different.
