What a lovely place to eat and drink. We were taken by our nephew and his fiancé for a wonderful lunch. The food was beautifully fresh and prepared as was the service. The wine, expertly chosen by our nephew was a delight. Thank you so much. Very happy to recommend this lovely place.

Visited as part of a work dinner table of 10, we didn't have to pre order and food came out in good time. Waiter was excellent from taking drinks orders upon arrival to serving food to each person without having to ask what had been ordered each course, nice touch. The best restaurant in Oxford a and by far! The food is succulent, the lobster soup with a hint of cognac is to die for. Fish special on my night was a seabass with a Dorset crab risotto with stuffed courgettes which was absolutely out of this world. The wine list offers a good selection of wines priced fairly and the staff is very helpful and very knowledgeable. A great place to impress a date or to bring foodie friends. It's all about food and this place offers precisely that ...and more ! I can't wait to get back to Oxford for my next meal there.... Highly recommended.

Lovely place and staff but sadly let down by a really long wait for our mains (around 40mins) and a really average chicken (bland flavours and more bones than meat). Needless to say that I didn’t order desert as I felt quite underwhelmed by the main. I won’t return.

The service when we arrived was very good and attentive. The food was very good. We ordered the steak for medium rare but it was cooked quite well done. We also ordered lobster as they said it was special of the day. When the food was served, there isn't any lobster, we checked with the waiter. He just insisted we did no order. That's fine and we started eating, the steak was quite well done but we find it was alright for us and we did not inform the waiter. We finished the food and when we got the bill, I just checked with the manager whether how much the steak was cooked. Then he asked the waiter and the waiter said it was medium well. The waiter straight way said it was us who said medium well and trying to defend himself. The manager was trying to handle the situation by offering us what he could do. He has been very helpful and professional. I hope the waiter could understand we are here for food, not for arguments or complaints. We do hope we can enjoy our food happily if we are coming back here next time.

Lovely place in the heart of Oxford (which I find for the most part to be a desert in terms of good food options - can't blame them though as it mostly needs to cater to the student crowd). It has elevated dishes on a seasonal menu, though some plates and combinations are on all year round. It's a very laid back atmosphere while still feeling a bit luxe. Great place to take family or friends to celebrate, or just when you need a really nice dinner out. Whatever you do, absolutely get dessert and get the cookie skillet - fantastic end to the meal.

We went here based on previous reviews and weren't disappointed. The restaurant was pretty quiet as we'd gone pre-theatre early evening. We were given a full walk-through of the various specials and I opted for halibut with fennel. The halibut was beautifully cooked, probably the best I've tasted. It was served with fennel cooked in orange, which sounded strange but was actually delicious.

This is a lovely place that offers something so far from the many chains. The menu is quite minimal but clearly well thought out. Quite a range of prices with the burger being £14 and the surf and turf special £100 (for two). Waiting staff were really lovely and we had an amazing bottle of red wine for £38 (South African). Would go back, but need to pay more attention to prices!

An acceptable Sunday roast of pot brisket, very soft and tender. However the stars of the show seem to be the crisp salad, flavorful roast vegetables and fragrant duck oil potato. If only the roast could match up with the quality of the accompanying sides.

Fabulous experience! Arrived for a last minute lunch we were welcomed into the restaurant after asking where we'd like to sit. We opted for inside to soak up the ambience. Beautifully decorated inside with music in the background. In addition to the a la carte menu there were also a number of specials to choose from. Service & food was excellent! Wine was reasonably priced with a good variety to choose from. Very pleased we turned up at their door, we were not disappointed. Thank you all very much!

If you love seafood this place is great, we had the home made bread as an appetizer, wow that was great. I could eat loaves of the stuff. I also had for starter, red snapper on toast from the specials board and for mains I had the mussels. Both courses were cooked very well indeed. The dessert was probably a step too far as I was so full but it was equally delicious. This restaurant is a bit more pricey than most but the quality of food and the attentive service make it very worth while. the restaurant is low lit which make it great for a romantic meal.We will be visiting again.

Interesting menu and a quaint and cozy restaurant. The service was really good and the waiters very attentive and helpful. Different dishes, well done. Good wine list. Central Oxford location on a quiet side street. We did book for dinner on a weekday however a little later after 19:00 the tables were filling up. Had Oysters which was fanatstic and then the lamb and the veil. Really tasty and just the right portion. Not a lot on the dessert menu but did not matter much to us. In all honesty should be a little more than 4 stars here.

Amazing restaurant in Oxford city centre! Fantastic service, with some very professional staff. Went for a dinner on New Year's Eve, reservation was essential! We were made to feel welcome as soon as we stepped inside, with friendly and warm service. There were a number of daily specials that all sounded great, on top of the pretty sweet menu that is already there! Wine recommendation was made for us, which we were very pleased with! Not something we would have chosen ourselves, but it went perfectly with our meal!! 10/10, couldn't fault a single thing. 100% going to return soon.

Lovely place. We ordered the flat iron steak and lamb shoulder without cockles, and cookie skillet with salted caramel ice cream. Steak was a bit flavourless and tough, but the fries were good. the LAMB shoulder was EXCELLENT. so tender and full of flavour, with amazing mash. Dessert was quite sweet but delicious. Delightful and cozy British restaurant with small but excellent menu and daily specials. The drink and wine list is also small, but very good selections. Cocktails were excellent and wine was reasonably marked up. We had the lobster bisque (excellent), the crispy squid (very small and over cooked - the only miss of the evening), the hamburger with chips (excellent) and the flank steak with chips and a side of steamed kale (cooked perfectly and also excellent). Really pleased we picked this restaurant for our one dinner in Oxford!

The restaurant has a nice atmosphere, service is great as well as the wine list. If you order fish soup for starters be prepared for a LOT of mint, which made in impossible to taste the (ground) fish in it. Wild mushroom risotto however was the best and it really stood out. Main dishes did not live up to expectations. The fish with cooked pepper (daily offer) had a distinct frozen taste and while the sirloin steak was OK, the pre-fried and frozen fries served it with would match a fast food chain better. As other reviewers seem to have been satisfied with the food, it is possible that the kitchen only had a bad day.

The main attraction was the aged beef for two which was possibly one of the best quality pieces of beef I have ever eaten. Prepared very carefully and exactly as ordered and discussed. We originally had a different place booked but the tour guide strongly recommeded it so we changed. We went to celebrate my partner's birthday and even noted it when booking but there was no mention of it by the staff, which tbh is not a big deal, but at least a happy bday would've been nice. The staff is the best part of the place, they are lovely, well informed, very polite and warm. The place is very clean and nicely decorated and it seem to follow all COVID regulations, which is great. We shared the mussles for a started and they were delicious, one of the recommendations from the staff and they did nail them. As a main we both ordered the sirloin, mine blue (which came rare) and one rare (which came medium), we don't like throwing food away so we ate them but informed the staff so they can improve it for other customers and they very kindly applied a discount to the final bill, which was not necessary but highly appreciate it. Other than overcooked (to our taste) the meat was excellent. We also ordered sides and dessert, which just as everything else was spot on. The portions are good in size and the timing wait seemed good. It is a very charming, good quality place and we would recommend it.

Looked very interesting from the outside but once inside you see that is it cramped, taking intimate to a whole new, not so desirable level. One table is placed directly in front of the kitchen so the staff will keep bumping in to the guests while going to and from. Ordered a steak, medium. It was burnt to a crisp on one end and completely raw on the other. No, it is not the average level of done that counts. Can not recommend this place.

Have now been twice to this restaurant, and both times have been greatly impressed by the food: this is elegant, superbly executed cooking, with strong ingredients and techniques. A rabbit stew was deep and rich and expert; cheese wonderful; a terrine was spot on. Well priced, especially for the set lunch, and with a good wine list, this is classical European cooking that stands out not just for Oxford, but for anywhere in the UK. Both times the restaurant was fairly quiet - and it shouldn't be.

I was in Oxford for a work trip (alone) and decided to eat out at this restaurant after reading the reviews. Although it's lovely inside - first impressions weren't great. The waiter offered to take the coats of the large group who came in just after me, but left me to sit with my coat. Felt like I was being ignored for a while. The seat by the window was quite breezy, and the bread for appetisers was cold which was a bit disappointing. The rest of the food was lovely though, especially the peanut butter parfait for dessert.

Perfection. My wife and I hosted a birthday ending in a zero here in their private dining event space on the 1st floor. Nothing short of remarkable. The staff were an absolute delight, attentive, chatty, cheery, with no request too much effort. Just brilliant. The food was lovely, modern, well cooked and well plated. The liver I had to start was a tiny bit overcooked but well seasoned and still tasty. The sole main was delicious and a huge portion of lovely fresh tasting fish on the bone. Deserts were soooooo good. Chocolate dome was tempered to a shiny gloss, tasty, moorish, not too sweet, yumminess. We will be going back. Everyone who works here should be proud.

Pleasingly fancy bistro dining in a cosy central Oxford location. Elegant chef's touches on everything from the exchanting cocktails to the dressing for the oysters (which are of excellent and well-described provenance). We had an delicious, intensely comforting cassoulet, perfect winter fare. The menu is seasonal, with regular exciting specials (the board promised a giant lobster when we visited), and the wine list is very suitable. Save space for desserts, which are flashy and likeable; the pornstar parfait, in particular, is a delight. The small dining room means booking is essential, but also that service is fast and attentive, and there's an upstairs bar to retreat to when the meal is done. Overall: lovely.

Cozy corner restaurant with a dickensian higgledy-piggledy wonky look. Renovated in a lush brasserie style, the menu is accessible and reasonably priced. Wine menu is limited but also reasonably priced. Service is attentive if a little casual. There are two booking options - ground floor (brasserie) and 1st floor (more formal). When we visited for an early supper on a Monday we were the only people there and so couldn't tell the different between the two floors. In a town full of chains and soggy hotel restaurants this is better than the crowd but without being distinguished.
