The service is very good. They made a special board for us as it was our first day as marry couple. The food has good quality. The cocktails were done very precise. Cleanliness overall was great. A nice place for enjoy a lunch with quality food.

My partner took me here for my birthday. Only I would go to a steakhouse and have a burger. I had the dirty burger and my partner had the black Angus filet mignon. Food was incredible. Service was amazing, and the espresso martini can really do a number on you! I ate so much that I didn't want desert. My partner ordered a desert for herself, and they brought me a little brownie anyway as 'you have to have something on your birthday'. I highly recommend this place and will be coming here more often!

Quite enjoyed my pork belly with scallops and calamari for a starter, darlings had a stake witch was cooked perfectly, staff was very friendly and looked after us, asked if we wanted more drinks and kindly explained all the menu options. Thumbs up 👍

Our second time here, my partner and I ate from the summer lunch three course menu. All the food was very nice (I particularly enjoyed the chargrilled chorizo starter!). Our server was very friendly, and the general vibe was very pleasant. I would certainly recommend Miller and Carter and it's very likely we will dine here again.

Had a lovely lunch today at Miller and Carter, eyes bigger than my belly and the starter and main were more than enough tho the sticky toffee pudding was good I didn't need it. Staff were friendly and attentive and it wasn't too busy.

The venue is smart and a nice location for a meal / drinks. Our waitress was friendly and helpful. Menu choices are quite varied. Greeting was not the most welcoming. I appreciate they were busy but could have been a warmer reception. When booking we requested a quiet area for our meal but were placed right in the middle of the venue by the stairs / walkway despite several booths being free. Fillet steak was OK but not that tender for a £30 meal. For a premium priced venue I would have expected better to be honest.

5 star all the way for this place. Birthday meal or special occasions are perfect for a visit. Cocktails are delicious, starters were also tasty, and the main attraction being the steak, had so many options to choose from. All came out quick, nothing too much trouble for the server that we had, she was an absolute asset to our dining experience ! :)

The service was amazing all the staff were polite and friendly. Service was extremely quick compared to other places I have visited. Our drinks came minutes after we ordered them and they were lovely! Recommend cocktails by the waitress were just what we wanted and tasted lovely! The decor was gorgeous! Loved the Christmas decorations, it just looked so elegant and had that warm cozy feeling. We had the Boxing Day menu which was lovely, well worth every penny. I can not fault a single thing about it! Thank you!

Staff were friendly, polite and helpful. Very good with dealing with dietary requirements. Food overall pretty good. However, the steaks, of all things, were a let down. We had fillet steaks, which despite being cooked rare as recommended, were very chewy. Fillet steaks should so tender that they virtually melt in the mouth. Not so tonight. I've cooked better supermarket fillet steaks at home. Very let down on the steaks - especially considering the high price.

The actual restaurant is lovely, dark beams well laid out and looks good. Our table was ok, seemed a bit in the traffic to and fro both both diners and server's. My starter was delicious the chicken bites. My t bone steak was very averarage. No taste or wow factor. Grisly meat and very disappointing for a £38 peace of meat. The peppercorn sauce was tasteless. Our waitress was lovely, polite and very attentive. I would go back but I wouldn't pay for a steak again. There are cheaper options like ribs burgers etc. Overall ok but a disappointing experience on that evening.

I took my girlfriend here for her birthday over 2 weeks ago and we are still talking about how good the steak was! The setting is lovely and our waitress was extremely friendly I can honestly say that our food was the best food we've ever had at a restaurant, the portion sizes are generous as well. I have eaten steak at many restaurants and without exaggeration this was by far the best steak I have ever been served. The service was faultless and attentive, and the atmosphere and decor were exceptional. You get what you pay for, so expect prices to be reflective of a premium experience but I was more than glad to pay this.

the soup came out cold and had to back and we waited another 20 minutes. so, make sure hot food is hot! End bill didn't have the deposit taken off and had to go back to have it refunded. Loved it other than that and will go back as the food and service was fantastic.

I came back again to enjoy this place with my wife for our 1st anniversary and had a fantastic steak. The meat melted in your mouth with sweet potato fries that were full of so much flavour to compliment the steak very well. The little extra of onion loaf and peppercorn really finished off all the flavours you didn't know you needed. After eating the main the "wedge" of lettuce was a really fresh way to balance out all the other foods. A side of lobster tail packed full of flavour was much more than expected. Desert, I had the banoffee pie with glazed banana on top, so much flavour with. My wife had the crème brûlée, I didn't taste but it looked amazing. Worth every penny we spent. The staff were very polite and very professional, would be happy to come back again for sure.

Been here several times and the food is consistently good. Not the cheapest, but good nevertheless. Leia served us tonight. She was lovely. Very warm and helpful. Tonight was only marred by a group on a nearby table who were so loud and foul mouthed I can't understand why they weren't spoken to or asked to leave. We didn't appreciate this as we had a child with us. M&C could have done better here.

First time we visited Miller and Carter and it was an enjoyable night. We had 50 day aged black Angus steak with fries, balsamic tomato, onion bread, dripping gravy, wedge salad, mac and cheese and it was lovely. Our waitress was very nice as well. I came here years ago when it was The China House but I like this place more. Will be back....maybe we'll have the tomahawk or 20oz sirloin

Great Steakhouse, Tucked out the way and situated on the waters edge, this Steakhouse is a welcoming and warm place to eat. The prices can seem high but the quality of food reflects this. Portion size is based on quality not quantity but a 3 course meal will fill you up. Good parking to the front of the restaurant, DO NOT FOLLOW THE SAT NAV. The restaurant is on the coxside side of the water not the barbican side. Staff were friendly and welcoming, I never felt rushed and they had good menu recommendations. I will go back.

Good points: Waitress was very inviting and welcoming. She appeared very happy and relaxed. Gave us plenty of time to read the menu and order drinks. Food came out in good time and was hot, absolutely beautifully presented, full of flavours and colour! We decided to have desert too which one of us had the apple pie, could not believe how big it was and at the same time delicious! Tips for improvement: My husband was a bit disappointed that there was only 4 pofitarolls on his desert plate and they were quite small, he said they let the meal down as both the starters and mains were of great value portion however the 4 very small pofitarolls were not impressive especially when compared to the apple pie and the other deserts we saw coming out the kitchen! So maybe increase this desert to bring inline with the other deserts offered. Other than this one thing we really enjoyed our visit and will be returning again. ☺️

Service was great, timely with just enough attention. Orders were correct as was the bill. Nachos were lovely to share and bao bun wa enjoyed. Rump steak was requested rare but served medium. Hallumi fries would have been better without the topping. The creme brulet was only partially caramelised on the top and could have benefitted with a few more secs with the blow torch to fully melt the sugar and give the lovely crunch.

After nearly three days of flights and travelling from Canada, this was the first place we stopped to eat with friends of ours on our recent trip. There is simply not enough words to describe how wonderful our experience was here. The whole evening was simply perfect. Our server was very lovely - talkative, informative and had some really great recommendations. The four of us each had an app, a main, and a dessert. We couldn't help it - the food was simply that delicious and there were too many things to choose from! I started with their Barbacoa beef yorkies, which I have been trying to recreate ever since we returned home. The meat was so tender and flavourful! For my main, I had a steak with the onion loaf and the mushroom au jus. Again - cook on my steak was excellent; and the accompaniments were really delicious. I can honestly say it was the best steak I've ever eaten - and I ate all of it! No fat, or gristle. Despite not having room for dessert, I pushed through anyway. While the texture of their brownie was a (pleasant) surprise, the depth of flavour in the chocolate was simply divine. If you havent eaten here - go!

Lovely starters of mushrooms and beef croquettes. Main course nice but disappointing waited a long time and waitress did apologise and said she'd checked. Firstly no duck, but pork was ok 50 year old rib eye nice but not hot, butter on top didn't even melt, beef tomato was a small wedge, onion bread was very chewy as if warmed up in microwave. Literally 10 thin fries but what was the 1/4 of lettuce wedge with dressing in a bowl ! !! Just a lump with a bit of dressing. Desert creme brulee was nice but caramel torte. ..not nice at all. ..over powering cinnamon base and description of creamy coconut was a let down...tasted stale and was left. Atmosphere nice but wouldn't hurry back.

We booked mostly due to Rishi's eat out to help out scheme. Straight forward entry, hand sanitiser to use before being shown to our table. Looks like a few less tables inside from when I visited in February, prior to lock down so plenty of space to keep our distance which was good. The general layout is good, and it's almost like it was already designed with covid in mind dud to the glass surrounding a lot of tables . It was pretty busy. Order for drinks taken quickly and delivered at good speed. From ordering food to having served was also good. We both order the 8oz sirloin steak main meal. 1 medium, the other medium rare. Both cooked to how we like it. No deserts as very happy with just the main. Looked after by the waitress who also asked for allergies, making a note of it just in case. Really enjoyed my meal here this afternoon for the first one for me and the wife post lockdown! Thanks. Edit - Forgot to add, a great idea that you use a menu that is thrown away after. Single use. It's surprising using a menu how many others have touched it, or what the sticky mess is!

1st time here an will definitely not be the last. Yes you will pay a premium price for a Plymouth restaurant but you get superb food an the service was fantastic. T bone steak was one of the best I've had (although a 20oz isn't huge but still plenty). We didn't have a starter to be sure we had room for dessert an I'm so glad. Dessert was brilliant, tasty and a good palate cleanser after a beefy steak.

It was my birthday when we went and I have to say the staff were friendly and knowledgeable about the menus. Saved me from having mash twice! The food was absolutely amazing, superbly cooked. The barbecue spare ribs, the Aberdeen Angus steaks and rack of lamb were amazing. Yes, a little pricey but for that quality, it was definitely worth it. Thank you we will come back again sometime

Couldn't fault the food or service, however we were expecting to be able to take advantage of the "date night" menu. As it was a bank holiday this wasn't valid but there was nothing on the website or in the restaurant to say this. It was only when we asked the waitress that we became aware. Also we had an issue with a gift card we were bought that wouldn't go through. It took over an hour to sort this, phone calls by ourselves and managers. We were issued with another gift card but we ended having to pay £40 that we weren't expecting. Staff couldn't do enough to help us.

All of the food here was fantastic. My partner and I shared a chateaubriand here which was cooked absolutely perfectly for us. Wait staff were very friendly and happy to accommodate any special requests we had, however we had to ask for our drinks twice before they arrived, had to ask for the bill twice before it arrived and we had a voucher for a glass of wine which the waitress forgot to take off the bill. It did get very busy while we were there so I can forgive some of this. All in all dinner here was a very positive experience and I would highly recommend it.

Six of us went here for a meal on a Sunday evening. I’ve been to a M&C before and had high expectations. The restaurant itself is lovely. An amazing building, very good vibe, clean and of nice decor. On this particular occasion however the food let us down. One member of our group had her steak undercooked and with excess fat. Not what you expect for a £30 cut of meat. We were credited it back which was nice but it was just a shame that the meal wasn’t as expected. My fillet steak was nice and cooked well although it was cold, implying it may have been sitting a while before being served. I wouldn’t say this review is indicative of every M&C or all meals on the menu. Just that on this occasion it was a disappointing experience compared to others I’ve head elsewhere.

We walked in by chance 5.45 this eve at Sutton Wharf, a friendly receptionist managed to find us the last free table, we were very happy, as living in Plymouth never dined here before. A friend and I visited for lunch last Monday, it was the first time visiting a Miller and Carter for me! The restaurant itself is in an interesting position on the water and benefits from a free car park for customers which is ideal for the centre of Plymouth! My friend took advantage of the lunchtime cocktails for £4.95 - as a cocktail enthusiast she was very happy! I had a sip of her Pornstar Martini which did not disappoint! We both had the Buttermilk Chicken Experience - I swapped fries for extra green veg. The chicken was huge and beautifully cooked, gravy was rich and delicious and the sweetcorn fritter a very welcome addition! The greens were sadly really quite dry and the poached egg very overdone. Overall though a nice meal and excellent portion size. We were served I believe by Tyler who was very pleasant however the service was very slow for a very quiet lunch period. I believe we were one of four tables and it took a long time to get servers attention for drinks and the bill etc. The restaurant was also very, very cold! We both sat in our coats for most of the time we were there. So in short, an equal balance of positives and negatives! I would visit again with a few extra layers 😂

Perfectly cooked and almost melted in the mouth........ and the onion loaf was amazing. We then had the 'bomb' and a salted caramel cheesecake, both were fabulous. 1st class restaurant. Expensive but worth it for special occasions. I have a fantastic rump steak and my wife had a burger. The wife said it was the best burger she's had. She's generally difficult to please with food. 😂👍 Prices range from about £15 a steak to £58 a steak meal. The waitress who served us has only just started but was fantastic. Service was excellent and quick. It was a lovely evening out.

This is a superb dining experience from start to finish! Set in an old warehouse on the historic Barbican quayside (in the building formerly The China House) the upmarket decor is upstaged only by the quality of the food and the excellence of the service. A typical Miller & Carter restaurant, it isn't cheap by any means but what you get is well worth the outlay. Somewhat uniquely, you are served a large chunk of fresh lettuce coated with the sauce of your choice. A different take on the traditional salad bar, but follow that up with a delicious Black Angus steak cooked to perfection and you can't go wrong. Plenty of free parking with easy access. A lot of history with a splendid tale, a bit like my book "Professor Harry Parker and the Tunnels of Argonaut Bay" by Steve Pick available on Amazon kindle.

Really nice venue with lovely staff. I'd recommend. It was my mum's birthday and they added a really personal touch to her order which was so nice. It is a bit expensive but the food and service is excellent. The only downside to me was the lighting is a bit glary. Otherwise it has a great atmosphere.

Took my partner for his 30th tonight and couldn't have been more impressed. Firstly let me say the service was delightful, the young lady Carly who took care of us was attentive, friendly and professional, a total delight. Bar staff were also very friendly. The food was amazing, we had the aged rib eyes, which both of us agreed was possibly the best steak we'd ever had, definitely allowed to rest and cooked to perfection. We grabbed a couple of cocktails and the espresso martini was fantastic. It's rare these days to be so impressed by a place from start to finish and they definitely made our night special.

This Muller and Carter is always fantastic to visit. It's right on the water front and has some brilliant interior. Food wise the offering is good, speedy and as described. Service wise, it's ok. Would benefit from less attentiveness at the start of the meal and more at the end. Best bit - location. Worst bit - The end of service wait. Things that could be done better: - My steak had a fair bit of fat, beater meat selection could benefit. - The whisky I had at the end came with far to much ice. The first time I visited I had a lemon in my whisky and had to send back - some drinks education may correct this. - The service, we appreciate that servers need to check if we like the food but this can be limited to one question when we don't have food in our mouths, more attention at the end would be good, as we were finishing the puddings a check too see if we enjoyed. Then return 5-10mins after asking if we need anything. This would allow us to get the bill.

Good food, good atmosphere, affordable. Have been here time and again. Right on the water. Can sit outside and literally watch the fish swimming underneath you. Perfect for sunny days. Nice place for a date or evening with friends and family. Very good service, and better food. I recommend the burgers there. Nice and Juicy! Ample parking, and not far from town or the barbican or the cinema or bowling.

Having visited on the Saturday evening after officially opening, my husband & I had a wonderfully relaxing time. The service was very prompt with plenty of information & detail having asked about the menu choices. I enjoyed the Chipotle Chicken for starter & it was finger licking good. I rarely eat steak as so fussy but it was superbly tender & very tasty indeed. We didn't have room for dessert but the choices looked varied & reasonably priced. If you enjoy a steak & fancy a slightly more glamourous evening, it's worth a visit.

We visited for a family birthday last night and I have to say that the food was absolutely fantastic. This place has really gone up to another level since changing from the China House that it was previously known. The new decor makes it feel a lot more up market and our server, the Canadian lady, was incredibly polite, chatty and accommodating of all requests. This, I think, will now take over from one of our previously preferred restaurants which was the Barbican Kitchen. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Honestly an incredible experience, nachos are hand-cut to perfection, crispy enough to hold form but not too crispy as to hurt your gums as I find with most nachos. Not to mention their beef was tender and delicious. The glazed chicken burgers were succulent and easy to eat, but enough Bbq sauce to be dribbling out of every side. The sweetcorn crispy cake things are honestly to die for, I would have ordered a side plate of them had I of known how amazing they were. The service is beyond compare, and their house blend rose was smoother than melted butter on pancakes. 10/10. 100% would recommend!

Clean and tidy. Good friendly staff. Good menu and lovely views. Disappointing visit recently. We took friends to sit outside for a beer each. This is one of our favourite spots. We were Not Allowed. Reservations only for food. No sitting outside, which we consider to be much safer for Covid. We left to go around the corner to the Lockyers Quay, which is where we will go in the future for our "pint with a view".. It's a shame. Miller and Carter food is fantastic and it is very popular. We will use it as a restaurant only in future, but if they cannot afford staff to service an outside area then perhaps they are not doing so well.

Enjoyed an anniversary celebration recently where we fortunate to enjoy our delightful meal on the terrace overlooking one of the best views of the Barbican. My wife's meal of fillet steak and half lobster was superb and the Gem lettuce with Stilton was a nice touch. My ribeye steak was as good a steak as I've had in quite a while and the sides delightful. The staff were very friendly and helpful and helped make the anniversary an event to remember. Hi we fully enjoyed a meal whilst on holiday (1st Oct) and celebrating our 36th wedding anniversary. However whilst we were having our meal I asked my daughter to ring and arrange a surprise bottle of champagne to our table. Unfortunately after 18 attempts I told her to forget about it as we were already on the desert course. Sadly I have to say we did have to send this (sticky toffey pud) back as it was cold. Then as we were waiting at the table waiting to pay of which took an age as the card machines were down my wife spotted a rodent running alongside the far wall. We didn't want to say anything for fear of too much embarrassment but feel now we should make you aware for H&S reasons. Possibly,and due to the restaurant's location you may already know about this? Either way it is only right to let you know. Meal was very good although I hope you can address the rodent issue before this may cause concerns to others in the future. Regards Gordon
