Reviews of Ocean View at The Dome
D. M.
A fantastic location overlooking Plymouth sound from the concave floor to ceiling windows.
Robert, our waiter, was very professional, engaging and not over the top giving us ample time to decide on our drinks and dinning choices.
A good selection of cocktails, so it was nice to try something new.
My mains, sticky ox cheek, was recommended by Robert, and I would also recommend it to anyone else.
Easy listening music was playing in the background which was at a nice volume and didn't interfere with our conversation, only to be stopped twice to wish dinners' a happy birthday.
The overall experience was memorable and I would definitely be returning and recommending it.

4/4.5 out of 5. Overall pleasant experience. Friendly service & good food.
We had the 7oz Beef Burger & the Chicken Supreme. A good burger, and the chicken supreme was lovely, the sauce being the winner for me.
Obviously in a great setting, couldn’t beat it!
Only thing I would say is it’s a tad pricey for some so would maybe be more of an occasion or a treat visit.
We will be back again :)

It was our first visit to The ocean view at the Dome..& we must say what a BEAUTIFUL place no wonder it is called The ocean view. .The decor was so amazing & furniture. Your staff were all so cheerful & very welcoming when we walked in & so attentive. We only went in for coffee this time & we had some lovely cherry shortbread .we were so impressed with all your staff but especially Victoria she was so kind & caring such a lovely lady.As it was our friends special Birthday. The dome & all your staff are a credit to Plymouth. We will be back with more friends for a meal next time. We have seen our tables. One for six people. Thankyou again. Enjoy the fireworks. Please Thank Victoria.

Popped in for morning coffee while visiting Plymouth. Coffee and cake for just a fiver while enjoying a stunning view of Plymouth Sound. Service was excellent. The whole experience was relaxing. Looking at the drinks menu and the selection of different shaped glasses this would be a fun place for a sundowner.
R. L.
Wonderful food and setting. Servers were attentive when needed, the menu was full of choice for meat, fish and vegetarian options. Portions were good. The star was the of the show was the food tho, really good, can't wait to go again
P. S.
An amazing refurbished cocktail and restaurant with waterfront views across Plymouth sound. The service and food were exceptional. Perfect for a date or social gathering.

Walking past on a Saturday evening myself and partner decided to try out the recently opened Ocean View as it looked inviting. As you walk in the bar is very grand and finished to a really high standard. The fresh flowers are a welcome touch. The staff were all well dressed, professional and friendly. The selection of drinks was great and all at a very competitive price for the area. All the glassware is to a high standard too. I cannot fault the place for having a few drinks it was fantastic. We didn't eat there but will be sure to return and try the food.

Normally I would start a review by telling you about how good the food was!
however I have to start with Adam! Our exceptional waiter last night 👌
This really does have to be one of the best services, we have ever received in Plymouth👏
We were blown away by how attentive he was, whilst we was debating ovet food options, he came over and said I over heard you debate and I thought I’d come and give you a helping hand, he knew every meal inside out, and the way he explained was exactly as it tasted, it made it so much more enjoyable! even when we couldn’t decide what drinks, he’d come over and give us recommendations and Just that extra mile, when he watched us struggle to take a selfie, he came over it and asked would you like me to take your photo for you.
A lot of people could learn a lot from Adam and I think he’s got a very bright future ahead.
Secondly the food was another level, it really was one of the best meals we’ve ever had.
Everything from start to finish was fantastic, the full place looked beautiful, extremely professional, clean and super friendly! I cannot wait to come back.
Oh and they even offered to take your jackets and if you decide to keep them they say if you change your mind please let us know and we will come and collect them, everything was just adorable 👌

Great setting and great food.
We had a seafood sharer which was spot on.
The venue is amazing and we sat looking out to sea. Feels like your in a 5 start hotel to be honest but not too expensive. Recommend for a special occasion or a holiday night out 👍

What an amazing high tea we had. Such lovely food and an abundance of tea and coffee with a champagne starter!
Lovely views from the window table.
An absolutely ideal place for a girly natter.
The waiter was polite and attentive.
Thank you for a memorable experience, we will definitely visit regularly.

Magnificent romantic restaurant “Ocean View at The Dome”. A historic venue it used to be a museum before a plaque was opened by the late Queen Elizabeth II - I’m sure it said this in menu. Outstanding stunning venue, blue, teal, turquoise interior. The ladies toilets were gorgeous. 1920s theme! Beautiful sea views of the plymouth sound, Drakes Island. Fabulous for a special occasion.
The champagne elderflower lemon was glorious, delicious! I think it was called Ocean View something - special cocktail on the same menu as the old fashion. I didn’t enjoy the limoncello - it reminded me of sherbet but not in a pleasant way. We had two red wines with our meal. Reds: The Chocolate Block, Boekenhoutskloof, South Africa, 2020; Pinot Noir Saintsbury, USA, 2019; Amarone Classico Costasera, Masi, Italy 2016 - are very delicious. Third red wine was a dessert.
Food wise: My starter was baked Brie with cranberry, my main was a jackfruit carvery, it was delicious. Sticky toffee pudding as a dessert. There wasn’t much range for vegetarians on the menu perhaps this was because we came on a Sunday. My partner had trio of pork for main and ham hock Turin for starter. The staff were very attentive. We had such a lovely time. Will definitely be back!

I'm so disappointed we waited ages to try this place and as we went in it clearly said cream tea was 1 fruit and 1 plain scone jam cream and tea. We ordered a cream tea with 2 teas and 2 hot chocolates as can be seen in the picture we were charged £26.95 for which I feel did not add up.....either we should have had 2 more scones etc or it should have been 7.95 cheaper although the food was good we wouldn't go again
K. M.
A surprise Birthday lunch at the Ocean View. Fabulous setting, attentive staff (Sam) and very tasty meal. Only comment to make which could have been better was apple sauce as an accompaniment to the roast pork which they didn't have! Highly recommended.
Update - having enjoyed my first experience, I online purchased a "gift voucher" for afternoon tea to be used for a raffle to raise money for Ukraine. Once the winning bid was placed, I ordered the voucher on 13 May. Somewhat frustratingly, the winner of the voucher was still chasing me for the voucher some 2.5 weeks after the purchase as their "tech system" failed. Be warned it's not a smooth operation, which left me feeling more than frustrated with Ocean View and embarrassed with the raffle winner. UGH!

We were wowed as soon as we entered the bar area with the spectacular domed roof. The location can not be faulted and maximum advantage has been made of the stunning views of Plymouth Sound with the positioning of each table. We were fortunate that it was a clear sunny evening and with a window table enjoyed these views until it was dark. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The majority of the food was very good especially the seafood sharing platter (disappointed Scotch Eggs were off the menu that evening, a favourite of ours!) Sadly one guest ordered the steak and this was inedible, very tough & chewy, not what you expect for that price. Even the waitress ageed that the steaks hadn't been the best that day!!! Obviously more complaints than just ours! The complaint was handled well, an apology was given and the Steak meal taken off the bill. Such a shame as it will make us think twice before returning. We would have rather paid the full bill and all meals be up to standard and enjoyed by all guests.

We've been watching the development of the Dome for a while and on the 1st November it opened. So what did we do? We checked it out. When we ventured in you could say they still had the soft opening in progress, however what a venue. Great interior and the view is outstanding. The staff are well presented, still finding thier feet but a great effort. We had a couple of cocktails, a Espresso Martini and a Gin Sling. Over all a well deserved effort on thier first few days. Good luck and well be back.
M. M.
Excellent service with friendly staff, delicious cocktails, tasty food, fantastic view.
S. H.
my husband and i popped in for a sticky toffee pudding and a cocktail this evening! the staff were absolutely amazing! especially the male bar tender! can’t remember his name but he was so accommodating and polite! we will be back for a whole meal soon! beautiful place and amazing staff!
D. S.
We just wanted to have some desserts, and oh my, what splendid ones we got. Tonka bean crème brûlèe with some berries. The caramelised sugar nicely cracked, the inside is incredibly rich and creamy, no pudding texture or whatsoever. And the berries, strawberry and raspberry, I really wonder where could they get such sweet fruits in December... Sticky toffee pudding, an old classic, but if it's done really well nothing can beat it. And oh boy, it was tasty!! Just get yourself one, really. :)))
K. K.
Thank you Ocean View! We had a team dinner for 11 people last night, and everyone was extremely pleased with the service and the food.
We each had 3 courses - all delicious and well-presented. The pre-order process was painless, and ensured everything we ordered (bar the 1 Scotch Egg lol) was available. OV even allowed us to pre-order drinks, ready upon our arrival. Nice touch!
We were about 10 minutes late, due to our pre-dinner team meeting running long, but OV didn’t mind and took us straight to our amazing table right in front of an amazing view of the water and Drakes Island.
Our main server (I believe her name was Kayleigh - hope I didn’t get that wrong!) - she was very thorough, kind, swift and accommodating. We kept her there late, but she was so patient and sweet (as was everyone else that helped deliver our food).
Serious compliments to the staff and the entire team. We’ll definitely be back.

Lovely place to Lunch for a special date, bit too expensive for us to make it onto our regular list of lunches out though.
Service very good and 3 Course meal was excellent, can recommend the Camenbert sharing starter, Ox cheek main and lemon posset dessert.
Y. S.
Our friends joined us for a lunch here for their first time. They were blown away by the whole experience.
The service, atmosphere and food was amazing.
M. L.
Outstanding breakfast!
I popped in friday morning for breakfast and i must say it was amazing couldnt of timed it better, had a window seat was a glorious day keep up the good work ocean view❤️ ( i may add this was my second visit and still had excellent service as i did when i had my first visit here very happy and pleased customer)😊
J. D.
Excellent and happy staff, food was on point and brilliant wine section.
Reasonable prices too!

We had a lovely anniversary meal here last night. The setting is beautiful, with lovely decor inside and an amazing view of the sea. Both of us enjoyed our meals. We had three courses each and each one tasted great! The service was excellent, they had plenty of waiting staff and all were very attentive, especially James who was very friendly and enthusiastic. We will definitely return and recommend to others.
A. V.
Absolutely lovely Roast Beef. The portion size was large and everything tasted divine. We will definitely be going again soon
D. S.
Really great restaurant. Came here during the day with my family for some coffee and cake and was not disappointed. The coffee was great and so was the lovely piece of cake. The staff were really friendly and over heard my little boy asking for a baby Chino which they brought over to him. The view are also amazing from here. Great experience, highly recommended.
J. T.
I felt very special from the moment I walked into this beautiful 1920s inspired restaurant. I was seated in the dome with stunning views of Plymouth sound and the sun over the water. I must admit I had a tear in my eye at how beautiful it was.. The food was excellent and our waiter James was attentive and extremely friendly. The only downside was the cost, it is expensive, but so worth it. We will be back, next time to watch the sun go down....
L. B.
Coffee nice, cakes a bit overly sweet. Lovely surroundings though. Had to order at the bar which spoils the 1930s vibe a bit.
A. N.
Great views, lovely place to have a drink or bite to eat.
Had the roast Monday evening which was generally very tasty although the potatoes were very dry and hard to eat with the little amount of gravy.
The crab cakes were poor, extremely dry and couldn't taste the crab, also didn't seem that fresh not great value compared to other places nearby. Table staff in restaurant were very nice, the barman on duty was not particularly welcoming, didn't engage at all :-(
A. B.
Such a great place!!the food was amazing!!the views..staff..decor were all really good!cant wait to visit again.
C. T.
My mum and sister went here today, the view was lovely and the service was good. The food was something they'd go back for and they recommend here.
A. S.
Best ever afternoon tea and proper Devonshire tea to go with. Absolutely brilliant decor, service and food. Can’t wait to try coffee and cake the cakes look scrumptious Air conditioned luxury.
S.
Amazing restaurant, and amazing waiter Alana. Very attentive and friendly staff in general and the food was lovely. Would recommend.
P. H. P.
What a location! Stunning views of Plymouth Sound from this lushly refurbished restaurant. Good food, reasonably priced served by friendly and attentive staff. Dogs are allowed in the bar area (beneath the spectacular dome).
You can enjoy a coffee and a generous slab of cake for only a Lady Godiva (and you can enjoy my book "Professor Harry Parker and the Tunnels of Argonaut Bay" by Steve Pick available on Amazon kindle for only £3.99)
C. C.
Amazing experience for our anniversary meal! Fantastic food, with outstanding service from James that really made the evening complete for us!
Couldn't have asked for better service - outstanding attention to detail and an evening laced with fun!! Very much appreciated!!
Thank you so much James!

We went as a party of 4 for the 1st night of restaurant service. A great experience. The decor and ambiance is bang on with the 1930s liner feel. Food excellent, this is a place where you can get a serious meal. I had crab to start, hake for main. Others had the belly pork. Good wine list. Table service top notch and professional. Go, you will enjoy.
j. m.
Myself and my partner popped in For Sunday lunch, wow what a great place. The staff are brilliant, the roast was the best we ever had. We will be back most Sundays for sure, keep doing what you do guys your smashing it. To point out on the day a baby shower party had turned up demanding the world, the staff were overrun with complaint after complaint from them. They did very well to attend to everyone else with the complainers taking up so much time.
J. J.
Love this place. Had a great lunch there in their opening week. Must return to try out dinner and an afternoon tea too! Amazing location/views and splendid decor. Staff were fabulous, as we're the cocktails!
G. W.
The dome is beautifully renovated and is such a beautiful place with an amazing view. However, I found the service really poor both times I have been. I ordered a sharing platter with my friend and some hot drinks. The hot drinks were left at the bar for 10 minutes until I grabbed them myself before they went cold. The platter arrived and we were offered no cutlery or plates, so we had asked for that. However, the food was absolutely delicious!!! Full of meats, cheeses, bread ect. The second time my friend and I seated ourselves down and the waitor said what can I get for you after 20 minutes and I said can we have some menus ect so we can decide? The cake and hot chocolate arrived and was half a mug of foam unfortunately - but tasted absolutely delicious! The mugs and saucers we also lovely! We weren't checked in on and when we paid they had no idea what table we had sat on and asked what we had ordered as there was no record of it. This is such a shame! I feel like for such a beautiful venue, the atmosphere seems tense and under pressure!
H. F.
Popped in for a quick lunch and what a delightful place. Staff were absolutely on point with everyone doing their bit to ensure things ran like clockwork. Food was better than we were expecting, toilets spotless and the main restaurant looked stunning. We will definitely book ourselves in for dinner when next staying in Plymouth.
A. F.
Well the initial experience was exceptional. Can not fault the staff. You were made to feel special and our party of four were preparing to have an fine wine and dining experience. The cracks appeared when we were told the crab cakes had ran out and we noticed the fresh crab on the sharing sea food platter had been replaced with a mushy battered soft belly crab. My wife's Vegan main looked horrific and wasn't eaten and my £28 steak was the toughest I've ever tried to eat. I gave up with soar gums. This was tested by the Chef and a refund was thankfully given. The bill was still just under £200 including a tip; however it was such a pity as other reviews are mostly 5 star and we were so looking forwards to it. Have also just noticed that although we ask for Tap water a charge of £3.50 for still water is on our bill.A return visit is unlikely.
J. B.
World class location, building, decor and cleanliness
Front of house staff exceptional. Ryan the manager, class act. James our server was professional, knowledgeable, informative and courteous,
Food was very good, not exceptional but very good.
Portions were to big (appreciate this is hardly a criticism, however for us was a little overwhelming) and overly salty. In fairness to the chef the dinning area was busy and food was palette able but there is stiff competition locally.
Front of house 10
Food 8
Cleanliness 9
Location/décor (should be up for an award)! 10

I’ve tried to visit here on three occasions only to find that they were not taking any more bookings and they don’t open on Sunday nights. Really disappointed that I can’t get a table there.
I went in today at mid day to be told the same yet the tables seemed available. Why is there limited space when only one of the dining areas are open.
So tonight I managed to get a table here and was pleasantly surprised and had a great evening with my family.
Served by Ryan and another young lad who were so helpful, friendly and gave great service. As well as all the other staff working there tonight. Their customer service was outstanding.
Good food, fair prices, lovely ambiance.
Thanks again and hopefully get a table again soon
P. G.
Nice pint although a fiver is steep smart barman but he wasn't able to say thank you. In summation, good venue but lacking basic customer service skills.
M. M.
Great dining experience best views and ambiance recommended.
J. P.
Such a great meal, with the best views in Plymouth. Out waitress Kayleigh was absolutely fab, and went above and beyond to make our pre-wedding meal perfect.

While at Ocean View having coffee we decided to book for Christmas dinner for 21/12/21. Dad rang to confirm booking only to be told booking not put on computer so re-booked, we'll walked in yesterday showed to our table( View amazing) only to be told that we weren't booked in for the Christmas meal, not impressed as it was my Birthday meal so had to have the other menu. The young lady that served us was really nice. Would we go back maybe but we will have to triple check our booking first.
P. C.

Amazing place, very high end.Great decor, fantastic food and ambiance. 1st class service from Brooke our waitress. We had to book well in advance to get a table but worth the wait and perfect for a romantic date.
H. H.
Nice cocktails, good presentations and great location.
The food itself is mediocre, especially the ox cheek was very salty, fish was OK.
Overall a good place for having a nice time and drinks with friends, but not if you are looking for high quality food.
R. H.
Excellent meal with my partner. Great venue & views in a very relaxing atmosphere coupled with great service from Gabi.

Wonderful lunch. Great service and an amazing seafood platter with a perfect couple of glasses of wine. Oh and did I mention the chocolate mousse? Will definitely be back.

I like the place and the food selection, especially the cheeks and the steak. Service is all good, they might keep the restaurant a little bit warmer during winter time though. Anyway I always have pleasant time there.
S. C.
Beautiful surroundings and fabulous views along with a delicious meal - what more could you ask? Service was very good and staff were polite and helpful. We'll be going back soon.
A. C.
Overall the Afternoon Tea experience is fine. The food is nice but the service is very slow. We waited for around 15 minutes for our bill. I believe it will be a better experience with faster service.

Beautiful location, beautiful cuisine and extremely helpful workers!
I love coming here!
