Had a very nice dinner at The Village Restaurant while visiting Plymouth. Had a shrimp and crab cocktail and a ribeye steak. The shrimp and crab cocktail had a bit too much dressing for my liking, and the presentation could have been better, but it tasted okay. The steak was delicious, and the service was very good, very welcoming and attentive staff.

I came here for belated, (I had Covid), birthday meal. I had the starter of garlic mushrooms and then the seafood platter. Beautiful. The service was excellent and they even had Mythos. Highly recommend this place.

Great food and amazing service! We went because of their high ratings and were not at all disappointed. Their serving sizes are quite large so you could easily share with the table. We also had their almond ricotta cake and almost had to force them into sharing their recipe! An absolute must for fresh cuisine.

Came here with friends after our dinner reservation was cancelled after the staff had to isolate. The restaurant is located near the harbour, service was slow to start but food was very fresh. Really great restaurant with fantastic food & very friendly staff. Even though we arrived without a booking we were given a table & allowed 2 hrs for our meal. The service was great & the three of us were served very fast. Although we enjoyed our meal we were able to finish in an hour & a half. At no time did the staff hurry us along. A lovely venu with a small but cosy interior. Will defo visit The Village Restaurant again when in Plymouth. 👍👌😁💥

A wonderful chance discovery this restaurant. Food was amazingly tasty, fresh and generous in portions. We had the Mussels, Tiger Prawns and Scallops combo, and the crab sandiwiches from the lunch menu which came with amazing chips and a feta salad. The best 2 course meal I have ever had. I had an evening 2 course meal (mushroom starter + haeckel) + Pint of diet coke for £17.45. Their mushroom starter put all other mushroom dishes I have ever had to shame. The haeckel had a good balance of crispiness and softness. The portions were great, I was 75kg (165lb) and starving and the portions were more than enough to satisfy me. However, I wish there were more haeckel instead of salad and chips. Both courses were served in less than 25min. My waiter, whom I assume is the owner, has such strong Italian Mafia vibes with his looks and hoarse voice. He honestly looks like a character from The Godfather. The man was friendly and attentive but not pushy. 10/10 would recommend.

Always busy which gives an idea of the quality and value for money. We have had many meals just walked in and a table could be found. The eat out to help out deal has helped considerably. I've been going to The Village for 20 years and have never been disappointed. The food is tasty, hot and plentiful (especially the potatoes!!) and there's a great range (it's far from all seafood). The best part is the warm welcome and relaxed atmosphere; 12 of us were booked in to celebrate my 40th yesterday and we had a wonderful time. Thank you team Village ❤️

Went in after a stroll around Barbican checked other Menu's decided on The Village,was busy asked to come back in 20 mins so did so, Service at first very good Excellent menu,Food came quickly and was hot and absolutely first class,However asked waiter for glass of water during main course waited 15 minutes and then had to get up and ask at bar for it ,on finishing meal asked waiter for bill waited 20 minutes then again had to ask at bar.Overall very good meal let down by poor service.Might leave it some time before going back.

You might get surprised by the overwhelm and over professionalism exhibited by the female staff but otherwise a nice and cosy place to hang out and have value for money deals when it comes to Good Food. They have good options for fish preprations and the menu is changed every day so one can expect go surprises if you are there for few days in Plymouth.

Even the steak gets full marks. I would have given 5 stars if I'd felt more relaxed. Staff were brilliant but it just felt too busy.

5 stars all round for this lovely restaurant. This was our first visit and certainly won't be the last. It was very busy but the service was still excellent and we did not have a long wait for our food. The menu has lots of options to suit most tastes with Seafood and Greek food being its specialities. We agreed that the scallops we had were the best we had ever tasted! I had a dish with tiger prawns, scallops and monk fish and it was excellent. Great atmosphere too. It is very reasonably priced and they also do a fixed price 2 course menu.

A charming little restaurant. It's not immediately obvious from the name 'where' the village is, but presumably it's in Greece somewhere. I was disappointed that there wasn't a huge choice for lactose intollerant vegans, but let's be honest, if you are a lactose intollerant vegan, it's par for the course. We get more than enough pleasure telling everyone. I chose the vegetarian mousaka which I enjoyed. It had (I think) a hint of fenel. The staff were great. The service was excellent. It's a tiny criticism, but the music was all over the place. There was probably a playlist that added, rather then took away from the ambience.

Decided to walk round the Barbican and look for a nice place to eat dinner with my wife and her parents. After about 30 mins we came across the village and decided to give it a whirl. So glad we did as the food and the service were both fantastic. The order to service time was really quick and the food was fresh and tasty. Went for lunch at the village for the first time today and was greeted by the kindest hostest. We decided on a 2 course lunch meal for £12.95, we had for starters tomato soup/prawn cocktail and both was delicious. Then both had fish chips and peas. All was fresh and piping hot. The batter Was light and crispy and not greasy. Chips were lovely too, portion sizes were more than plenty. Would definitely recommend to others, we will be back to sample more off the menu 🙂

And the food was always Clean and Fresh, and perfectly cooked!!! This restaurant was AMAZING!! We were visiting and staying in Plymouth for a week, this restaurant was sooo good we had to go back and have dinner there twice in a week! The trio of fish was delicious, lovely fresh fish and the sautéed potatoes were delicious! The steak was also great, the pepper corn sauce is to die for (could just eat a bowl of that) and the garlic sauce was also great!! Definitely recommend going to this restaurant if you’re in Plymouth, great friendly service as well. On the steak I would recommend the fillet steak over the rib eye though (the rib eye was a bit thin).

Fantastic food, generous portions, and wonderful service! I took the time to look at a range of restaurants around the port, mainly looking for seafood. Whilst there is plenty of choice, if you are after freshness and range, the Village is the place to be. With a comprehensive selection of fish & shellfish, you can't go wrong! Portions are generous, and the flavours are superb. I had the mussels starter which was a big serving and tasty, followed by a swordfish & prawn starter with potatoes & veg. Both were tasty, and plenty of food! Will recommend and definitely revisit when I'm next in Plymouth. The highlight though was the exceptional & welcoming service

A very nice little restaurant with great service! We hadn't booked and as we approached it looked quite full however we managed to get the last two seats. It was quite stuffy inside, but our cold drinks arrived very quickly and our starter soon after. When our meals came we were pleasantly surprised by the big portions, my chicken was delicious and the crispy potatoes on the side were lovely. First impressions= wow! Experience did not change that view either. Says something when, within 10 minutes of starting, all four of us, having made the journey down from Manchester/ Crewe, start discussing how we can fix a future journey simply so that we can visit this restaurant again! The sheer joy of choosing from a menu with such variety was itself rewarding. The food though did not disappoint and was lovingly consumed with relish. There was a wide range of seafood choice, a small amount of Greek cuisine and a range of steaks. Not only was there variety but also the portions were huge. So whether you see food as something to relish or simply as fuel, you'll not be disappointed.

Our son treated us to one of the best meals out in a long time at The Village last week. This is a gem of a restaurant and one we will visit again. My starter of taramasalata with pitta was so delicious I could have eaten it all over again as a main - but I had ordered seafood pasta and I wasn't disappointed. A steaming bowl of linguine with mussels, prawns and salamari was equally as good. The couple serving us were attentive and it seemed nothing was too much trouble. I almost don't want to recommend this restaurant because I want to keep it a secret, but it should be shared. Five stars well deserved and thank you!

For Christmas Day dinner, my brother and I used to try different Plymouth restaurants each year, having never settled on a venue where the quality and quantity of food, the quality of service, the ambience and value for money were all right. Each of the last three years, we have entrusted our Christmas Day dinner to The Village in Southside Street on Plymouth's Barbican. Although we were disappointed with the service in 2018 (I think we were 'forgotten' after we were seated!) because the food was so good and plentiful, we decided to give the place another go on 25/12/19. This time, as with our visit in 2017, it was perfect. Staff were polite, informal and attentive (despite our arriving 10 mins early for the 15.00hrs sitting) and the food was, as usual, plentiful and delicious. The Village is in a superb location in the heart of the Barbican, the ambience is relaxing and prices are very reasonable...so I would have no hesitation in recommending the place.

Have just come back from The Village Restaurant, Plymouth having felt very uncomfortable and very vulnerable. There was no social distancing of the tables. They were positioned in the same places as before the Pandemic. The restaurant was packed, far too packed for comfort. To get to our table we had to squeeze by other people sitting down. This was not acceptable. People were allowed to just walk in with little control as to how many people were they. When the people on the table next to us left the table was not sanitized only a cloth put over it. The chairs also were not sanitised after use. There were four of us one of which had come out for the first time since the Pandemic. I was disgusted that a restaurant like this showed little regard for social distancing and sanitation. The only plus side was that the food was very good I could not fault that. I live in Plymouth and will certainly be telling my friends that this restaurant shows little regard for social distancing.

The interior is good and clean with some soft furnishings so sound levels are less harsh than many places today. A varied reasonably sized menu with a good range of dishes. Wow, what a pleasant surprise! The place was really busy on Friday evening which I took as a good sign. I had no reservation and being alone I expected them to turn me away but they got me onto their last table right in the back of the restaurant. The restaurant was super busy but the staff, two men, two women shared the workload beautifully. In this day and age of tables being allocated to particular staff it’s a pain to have to attract the attention of one particular person just to get something else, water, extra wine, etc. Here I was served by all four through the courses, super efficient and super friendly! I ordered the Coquille St Jacques to start and Tournedos Rossini. The CSJ scallops were done in a cream sauce, with shallots, garlic, mushrooms, mustard, brandy - this was the tastiest meal I have had in a restaurant in years! These chefs know their stuff. The TR was a large piece of Fillet steak presented beautifully. Next time I’m in Plymouth I will book to make sure I can get in....other non-reservation people arrived who were also received well, “wait by the bar with a drink and we’ll have a table for you shortly.”
