This is one of our favourite places to visit, and, as we live nearby, we visit often. Keeping the country pub culture, dogs are allowed in and they also have books/board games you can “borrow” while you are inside. There is a bar with beer on tap and the usual selection of non/alcoholic beverages and my wife loves their coffee.
The food is an interesting selection with all day breakfast options to burgers or sandwiches and more. It’s an unhurried, homely and friendly atmosphere. Staff are very friendly and helpful.
We tried many different dishes over the years and have found them to be tasty, and I am adding a few pictures from a recent visit.

What a lovely place we stumbled on tonight. It was extremely busy but the hosting waitress still spent time welcoming us and giving us an update on food timings. We ordered drinks and desserts. The churros were perfection and the sticky toffee pudding was very good though could have used a little more sauce (that's probably just my preference).
Both waitresses were warm and friendly and the ambience was great.
Dogs were allowed which was nice.

Lovely place, had some time to kill so popped here for a coffee on my own. Really good coffee, staff were so friendly and they had a dog water bowl by the outside tables. Also seem really good for dietary requirements, will definitely go back.

Went here for the first time on Sunday afternoon.
Despite the restaurant having been incredibly busy due to Reading Festival the staff were very fast, friendly and personable, and the food tasted great.
The atmosphere was nice and we noticed the tables were being cleaned quickly and thoroughly after people had left.
We brought a dog in with us and the waitress brought her over some water and some doggy treats.
And we had a gluten allergy which was catered for with confidence with some great looking and tasting food from a huge gluten free menu. (Image is of the gluten free large breakfast).
We will absolutely be going back, and our first impression was about as good as a first impression can possibly be.

What a lovely time I had here! I was celebrating my birthday with my friend. They were very honest and said it would be a long wait for food, we were in no hurry.. However, the food came out really quickly, lovely filling lunch. Felt well taken care of by Louise. Thanks for a great time.

Very good place to go for any type of experience you could ask for.
I went in for a small group meet up and we had hot drinks that we could order from the table via QR code. There were other people enjoying alcoholic drinks at the bar and others having a full dinner. I also saw on the menu that you could go for a full English breakfast.
It seems to have everything! The decorations are very suiting for this aesthetic as well. There is 3 hour free parking behind the shopping precinct opposite which is fantastic! I would definitely recommend this place for any type of visit.

The staff are just lovely! Especially Bronwyn. It's a great place to go with my toddler for a drink, snack or dinner. And if you 'need' a cocktail there's a great choice. The food is high quality too. There are crayons with the kids menus and various colours of kids cutlery and cups - including pink. You always get a warm welcome.

We visited for the 1st time for Breakfast. There is a great gluten free selection, good size portions & very nice food. The staff are friendly & helpful. It’s very popular so expect to wait but it’s worth it. Loved the buzzy atmosphere. Will be going back again soon.

We stopped by for a drink Fri afternoon. Nice vibe. Just about half full. Very friendly staff and nice and clean. Some of our party ordered milkshakes - very weird take, served over lots of ice which meant they tastes watered down. Staff handled situation very well.
We only had drinks this time, but would be happy to go back for food another time.

Alto Lounge was good! 5 stars for the service, staff and ambience! I found the Beyond cheese burger a little dry compared to when Ive had it before. Would recommend

We were so impressed at the welcoming staff here. And welcoming to all. Dogs can come in too.
There was the sweetest very elderly lady and her trolley on her own who was made so welcome by the team, well done for being so community minded. Made us want to come back.
L. B.
Really cool spot with a trendy vibe. We had vegan burgers with chips and slaw - delicious!
W. B.
Large sitting with fresh décor & ambience. Well organised, confident & helpful staff. Standard Fry-up wasn't the best to be honest but it wasn't bad either. The individual items were basic & low quality in my opinion (sausages tasteless & smooth/no texture) but well cooked & presented. Coffee was good. I will definitely return to try some other meals on an interesting menu.
Z. W.
Lovely brunch with my daughter. Great ordering on app. Problem free. Great service.
D. F.
What a gorgeous venue with exceptional food! With a wide range of GF, vegan and allergen free menu options this is our new go-to location for a Sunday brunch. Friendly and attentive staff are a massive plus too. Highly recommended.

We had fantastic time as a great breakfast

Lovely chilled cafe lounge to eat ,drink and relax, welcoming and friendly staff, the alto lounge has a great food and drinks menu
D. C.
Haven't been here for a while but went for breakfast on Saturday (12th Feb-22) and had a hearty Big Lounge. The staff are fantastic and really make you feel welcome. You can order on the app with qr code so was dead easy - I hope these touch points continue. Table service as well is such a good move. Will be back as the food is really good, staff and atmosphere excellent. One of the best pubs in Caversham.
M. P.
Really great food and lovely interior.
We had some issues with menu items but all was sorted Bronwyn. She is a really great credit to the place and her service needed commending
G. D.
A good range of food and drinks and a pleasant atmosphere. I had breakfast here but would like to try the evening meals as they all sound lovely
N. B.
Want to say a huge thank you to all the staff who made my 50th birthday so special this morning. Fantastic food ,atmosphere and staff will definitely be back soon xx
V. K.
Unfortunately when I went they managed to lose my ticket and I had to wait around an hour for the food.
Usually this would impact my review, however the staff gave a full refund for the meal, and were honest about what had happened and what they were doing. And I appreciated the way that they handled the situation.
The milkshake was light and the tasted quite nice. I would definitely recommend it for anyone that visits. I would have liked the garlic bread to be a little more crisper on the outside, however it was still good. The ultimate chicken burger was good as well, it tastes pretty much like it is described as. I would have liked it if the brioche bun was toasted a bit longer and the chicken to have been cooked a bit less as it was a tad too dry. The pink lemonade was also a little too sweet for my tastes.
Overall I would definitely recommend it. The staff and laid back atmosphere give this place a nice warm feeling. The food is good, and I would definitely recommend the milkshake.

My go to place for coffee, all day brunch or reliable late dinner & drinks. A nice atmosphere and a good pay/ order at your table system on your phone for coronavirus safety. Only a couple of outside seats unfortunately but spacious inside, so good for dogs & kid prams in the day time.
C. G.
We love the alto lounge. Food is served amazingly, my boys inhaled the food and its tasty. Always going back for more.
M. A.
Lovely place to grab a bite to eat, takes dogs which is awesome for an evening walk. They do excellent children’s meals too, freshly cooked fish fingers as an example. No microwave in sight!
R. A.
Excellent service and menus for all including gluten free and vegan. The tapas was tasty and good value and pleasant decor to enjoy a sociable lunch
P. G.
Great reasonably priced food, nice atmosphere, friendly staff and they welcome dogs. Would highly recommend

Went to Ato Lounge on a Sunday for late breakfast. Each of us had a different item of the menu and they were all great.
It felt a bit weird having to order at the bar but it makes sense to go there once you made up your mind instead of waiting at the table. The table by the way, was a bit sticky. After ordering we didn’t wait for too long, even though the place was crowded. Staff were very friendly. Food portions were a tiny bit on the small side.
The place is dog friendly. That’s always a plus.
J. S.
Wondrous. Lovely interior with lots of character. A very relaxed and piece full atmospher
Lovely location. And a wide variety of food and brink on offer. Will visit again, and would recommend.
L. R.
We have been a few times now and it has always been a great service and food, would recommend to all visiting Caversham

First the positives....friendly staff. Lovely, interesting funky interior. Children/family friendly.
We arrived for dinner early evening. Despite being Saturday, it was only around 6.30, so still early and kids still around. It is quite a big place, with a funky interior that feels special while still being informal.
Food and drinks are ordered at the bar, which is fine. The staff who took the order was very friendly and remained so throughout the night.
At least half an hour after the order was placed for food, nothing had arrived. Nothing too tricky....3 tapas dishes, salad and a mac & cheese side. Food probably took about 45mins to come out. The tapas dishes spanned the temperature range...the meatballs hot, tofu warm and chicken barely nearly cold. The mac & cheese was pale and had none of that crispy topping. Again lukewarm.
Clearly the kitchen was struggling to get food out in reasonable speed and to a good quality. The staff who took the order came over to apologise for the wait and I felt bad for her. By now the restaurant was getting busy and hitting Saturday night peak. I could only imagine more people coming to the bar asking for their food.
I don't blame the front of house staff or the kitchen. I blame the management for not putting on enough kitchen staff and having a ridiculously long menu that makes things more complicated, including an all-day breakfast and breakfast.
A. M. S.
I love this place... Great atmosphere, friendly staff with big smiles, dog friendly and nice food. I often sit with my laptop and a coffee to get some work done and it's the best vibe I've found in Reading.
K. G.
Amazing place. Very interesting design. Super friendly staff and great food. Went in for an early breakfast and a coffee with my wife and was first one in. Staff took care of all our allergy requirements and provided us with a lovey vegan menu. Food was so good we got to ask the chef of what the secret was and found out it was the “magic dust”. I will recommend this place to anyone as it’s quite an experience. Will definitely be back.
S. A.
Staff were very polite and helpful. Food can be ordered from table using App or via the bar. Food tasted really good and portion sizes were generous. Kids received menus which they could colour and draw on the back of. Restaurant was busy but not overcrowded. Small selection of seats outside available however near a busy road. Only had individual toilets so could be busy at times, may be worth making unisex to support.
M. A.
Great choices and menus. Drinks are creative and tasty. Very home like experience with friendly young staff.
Great accommodation for vegans, kids and dogs.
A. P.
Always liked this place, good food, good beers. Friendly staff and relaxed atmosphere. Games for the kids, water for your dog. Good anytime of day, never feels empty over crowded.
S. L.
Always a good place to go, always friendly staff and good food.
My favourite place to eat in Caversham
A. C.
A gorgeous interior for a lovely cafe/restaurant in Caversham. Menu is great and an amazing choice of vegetarian / vegan food. The halloumi fritters are amazing. Breakfast and coffee comes in about £10 and it’s really worth it. Would definitely recommend this place.
R. S.
Great alternative/london style licenced cafe/restaurant. Shabby chic , school hall type feel. Staff friendly and helpful. Menu is varied and a real change from standard chains. Good quality food and well presented . Recommend
A. E.
Enjoyed a satisfying brunch with family on October 19th, I found the service to a good standard. My one issue was in regards to the extra glasses I was provided with. I never thought anything when handed the glassware but as soon as my Mom and aunt saw them they noticed that all 4 glasses were dirty. I could have just asked for replacements but instead got my wet wipes out of my handbag, used 1 wipe for each glass and it was very much required! Please note, to the consternation of my family and I, that they allow pets!
P. D.
Always good food and good atmosphere and the staff are always really helpful and welcoming.
B. G.
Love it! It's a great place to have a full breakfast (they even have a veggie option). They also have a nice tapas choice. Lovely and alternative decoration which makes this place unique.
K. G.
Perfect egg to hollandaise sauce ratio, mocktail was delectable, service was 10/10, this is a Caversham gem!
R. E. A. W.
Excellent food offering (even for a fussy girl like myself) plenty of options and eggs at breakfast are fantastic!
Staff are very helpful and friendly.
Pleasingly relaxed atmosphere and a great alternative to the dull hotel breakfast offered elsewhere. Well done team 👏
D. L.
Great breakfast.
Coffee 1st class, veggie breakfast was very good and lovely service.
s. d.
An absolute gem of a place to eat, came across it quite by accident, what a lovely surprise, the food is outstanding, the staff are brilliant and so attentive, I can highly recommend this place and we will be back on our next trip to Caversham
A. F.
Love this place. The vibes always just right, music is great too and always spoilt by the friendly staff. Thanks 😁
J. D.
My first meal here this evening. Lovely atmosphere, the food was SO good & the staff were polite & friendly. Not expensive either for what you get. I'll definitely be returning soon.😊
R. M.
Loved the vegan breakfast and even better as part of the meal deal. I haven't eaten here for ages and had forgotten how nice it is - good quality munch at a good price.
N. F. (.
From the outside it is just another plain modern building. Do not let this fool you, step inside, to discover the wonderful contemporary decor from Art Deco, old fashioned wallpaper and seasoned furniture, which all add towards making this place a warm welcoming cafeteria/bar/restaurant. This welcoming isn't just reserved by the decor however, the staff great you with a smile and very attentive towards any allergies their customers may have. The menu is extensive and offers a wide range of choices to suit all tastes and when it arrives at your table, it tastes as good as its is presented. Oh, forgot to mention, if you have a dog, they are made to feel welcome too, and are well watered and offered a small saucer of treats, just so they don't feel left out. Great touch this.
Couldn't reccomend the Alto Lounge more, the only regret I have is that it's over 300 miles from my home. But definitely on my list the next time I travel to Reading.⁸
S. W.
Quick, friendly service. Ultimate chicken burger was well flavoured, although slightly dry at the edges. Good onion rings. Nice atmosphere.
M.
Lovely staff, fantastic service, always good food and superb selection of beverages
M. W.
A Gluten freers dream. Called here last night, the Gluten free menu had loads of choices. I didn’t know what to choose so went for five gluten free tapas dishes and it was absolutely lovely. Friendly staff and good service. Will always call when over this way.
C. N.
Nice food 😁 very slow at coming out (>30 mins) 🤔
K.
Very nice food. I found it delicious. There's lots of range for dietaries too.
J. M.
Alto Lounge is a really nice and homely café which does good breakfasts, and good simple food, as well as coffee, soft drinks and alcohol. Relaxing atmosphere, calm music, nice staff.
O. S.
great staff, great atmosphere. went here a few times over the last few months. cant book at the weekend which i was worried about but the waiting times have luckily bee very minimal. the ordering on the app was allot smoother than others i have tried. NOTE can also order at the bar.
G. K.
Came here for a drink one evening and a breakfast the next day. The decor is very nice; not too pretentious which I find places like this can be sometimes! The online web app for ordering works flawlessly, which is surprisingly uncommon in the industry despite the times we live in.
I opted for the veggie breakfast, which comes with some exciting sweetcorn and cheese fritters, which were tasty if a bit on the small side - I feel a third could have been warranted. The breakfast also came with some 'greens and peppers' which were okay but nothing special. The rest of the fayre is standard: mushrooms, beans, toast, hash browns and fried egg - unfortunately you cannot get scrambled! However, the meal was otherwise very customisable - I splashed out on another two hash browns, bringing my total up to four, which is an optimal amount.
All in all a very good experience, maybe in the future I will check out the other branches in this chain!
S. g.
The best Shakshokah you will ever have in Caversham - I tried the vegetarian one and it is amazing .. the atmosphere is friendly and the staff are amazing .. I am not a tea person & maybe that is why I did not like it - I will definitely come back
L. K. P. T.
Emma blues is the best! So polite and makes the best panini's
R.
A bit of a wait for the food at brunch but it was pleasant once it got to us. Nice staff and a warm ambience. Great brunch spot.
S. L.
Good food, nice staff. The facilities could do with updating, but otherwise good.
M.
One of my favourite restaurants in Reading! The staff are always really polite and friendly and it's spacious so I never feel paranoid about Covid. Would recommend their breakfasts!
K. M.
Great vegetarian breakfast, lots of different menu options and nice chilled atmosphere at a reasonable price
S. R.
A big thank you to the Alto Lounge for feeding the my family this evening. They were so quiet with lots of empty tables, I felt I needed to speak up. I won the best plate of food comp with this handmade Roast Turkey and Bacon Pie. So very tasty and the vegetables so lovely. Covid restrictions are followed really well in the space and the new procedures were easy to follow. Definitely recommend it as a place for all the family with well behaved dogs being given a great big fuss too! Now, here’s the pie.... did I mention the pig in blanket? 😉
A. H.
Made very welcome and quickly rearranged tables to accommodate 10 of us. Food well presented and enjoyable. Will be going back soon.
A. M. G.
The food was alright, they took loo long to bring it, around an hour but the taste is good. The place is very cosy, warm. We will repeat!
d. m.
Cozzie and romantic ambience with a great choice of vegetarian food and drinks. They have weekday deals. If you pass by have a look.
P. N.
Environment and service are very nice, but the quality of the food and the price relationship is not great. My eggs were boiled not poached, my muffin wet from the egg and the salmon was almost non existent. However, they have a gluten free and vegan menu, wich makes this place very interesting.
C. D.
We went for lunch and I had the chicken ciabatta with chips. The sandwich was gorgeous and the fries were perfectly cooked. The service was relatively quick, despite being very busy when we went, and the people working there were very nice. My only complaint would be that it felt a little cramped, but the food more than made up for that in my opinion. The fact that it's dog friendly is an added bonus!
H. L.
Have had a few meals here, food is generally a very high standard, though the breakfasts are quite average (soggy anaemic bacon). Their chocolate sundaes are particularly delicious! The vibe is very chilled and they have a number of interesting art pieces dotted around the cafe.
They host a quiz on Sundays which are very fun, the hosts are enthusiastic and the questions can be quite challenging! Also a "joker round" for a good cause at the end!
J. W.
Lovely people and the vibes were so good, it was impossible not to have a great time. The music was very nice too! Literally made my day.
Oh the food was super good too btw😊
s. W.
Great atmosphere, lovely food with a wide range of drinks inc. homemade lemonade and smashing cakes. Outstanding service. Just what is needed during this pandemic; professional staff discretely managing public safety measures with courtesy. Very impressive
C. F.
Shout out to Emily and all her team for a quality evening. Professional whilst relaxed, all doing good vibes.
P.s. I hope I got the name right!
S.
As usual, which is to say excellent customer service, extremely covid safe and customer compliance with the test and trace required.
Food excellent, prompt and good value for money. Nice ambience, too.
N. R.
Always a cool little place to grab brunch or a coffee or beverage! Love that they allow dogs too 😄
B.
Great atmosphere.
Good selection of food and drinks.
Table service available through a web app
A. G.
Great as always; went the last night before Tier4 which was great. The staff were very helpful and quick service. We had to wait outside a bit which was fair enough to be honest.
The only minus is it might be March before we can go back. Food good, beer good.
E. O.
Such a relaxed environment.
A place where you can catch up with friends and family.
The selection on the menu was great, especially the option to have breakfast at any time if the day or night!
Great selection of drinks from a cup of tea or coffee to juices and cocktails.
Fun variety of board games to play with your party and or keep the children entertained!
Staff were friendly, attentive and accommodating.
D. S.
Food and general ambience was good overall. However I am not happy with the service received. For example we were not told that we have to go to the bar to order, which left us waiting at the table for a while. Also, when requested a simple substitution which I thought was reasonable (replace tomato and black pudding with additional mushrooms) we were told no. That by itself ruined my whole morning mood. They have the right to make their choices Re service and equally I can choose to never come back and go elsewhere. ...and I'll certainly be doing that next time.
R. C.
FSA rating 4/5 as of 08 November 2018
N.
Went for the houlomi salad which I was pleasantly surprised with as I'm used to getting burgers or more filling meals. However this is very nice for a light bite. You have to order at the counter and the table had to be cleared after we sat at it despite the fact the place was half empty. In all though a nice first visit.
A. S.
Stumbled upon this place. Lovely cocktails and great food. Particularly love the tapas selection (good size, three for a tenner. Free glass of wine on a Tuesday!) and good vegetarian choices. Also enjoyed tea and cake on another visit. Good atmosphere. Dogs welcome too! :)
R. D.
A lovely rustic local restaurant serving healthy home-cooked food. The menu is vast yet nothing is compromised on quality, everything I have ever ordered has been extremely tasty. Regular new specials on the menu, all day breakfasts, tapas, fun and generous deserts, craft beers - what more could you want?
M. H.
Cosy and friendly place. Food generally very good although for some choices size can be a little on the small side. Staff are great and helpful. No bookings so can be a wait at busy times, because it's so popular.
C. L.
Children and dog friendly. Very relaxing and welcoming that's good for everyone. The ladies working here are very sweet. I used to tell my friends Alto lounge is a lovely place that's almost perfect if it could offer better food, now after a few months not visiting here, they have got a new menu and IT IS PERFECT. The food has amazing flavour and at an affordable price. Now I have no excuse going elsewhere.
V. S.
A very cozy and lovely place to visit and the food is delicious! I've tried it for lunch and dinner and the vibe really changes from a fresh day mood to a more mature and bar-ish the closer to evening it gets. They have a good separate vegan menu with loads to choose from which was so surprising but obviously amazing. Enough space for a stroller or a wheelchair. The staff were really friendly and helpful with everything and the place is beautiful. The music was a bit too loud for dinner but that's the only issue I'e noticed with Alto Lounge.
L. M.
Part of the "...Lounge" franchise this is similar to the others I've visited. Service was a little slow but staff were extremely friendly and food was good. We had 3 tapas -style dishes for £10 and there are different offers (variable to days visiting). Dog friendly so ideal for that and they also run a quiz once a week. Parking nearby in Waitrose car park or similar.
C. H.
Super friendly staff, shame about the chef's tendency to vastly over cook everything that came out. The chicken burger was crispy, the squid likewise (and completely inedible) also the chicken taco, even at the second time of asking. Whilst we were refunded some of the mains, we felt it was probably not enough to get try here again.
N. T.
Very friendly. Great food. Breastfeeding friendly. Dog friendly. Caters for allergies. Covid secure. Quick service.
l. r.
After having an unfortunate experience at this restaurant I reviewed the food here and the manager Emily got in contact with me straight away and answered my questions in a very professional manner. I hope they can improve the vegan options but the vegetarian food is really good. Happy with the way they dealt with our complaint.
L. C.
Lovely staff, food and customer service. Was made to feel really welcomed. Would definitely return here again.
W.
Had the vegan burger here and it was amazing. My girlfriend got a vegan breakfast at 8pm which made me the best boyfriend ever. Then our espresso martinis were great! If I lived here I’d come every weekend!
G. M.
Good range of food on the menu whether you're visiting for a meal or just a tea and a snack. Nice and cosy, and always popular. Knocked a star off because it gets impossibly busy at lunchtimes, victim of its own success, and the wait for food gets quite long. In fairness the staff do warn you about the delay when ordering, but just don't expect a quick visit at peak times - settle in with a coffee while you wait.
j. c.
Staff were lovely, restaurant was lovely. Very impressed with food ordering and payment system. Not very impressed with food.
S. D.
Great staff. Perfect food. Family and dog friendly. Service is impeccable. Slow to get food, but well worth the wait. The lovely staff try as hard as possible to get it out as quickly, but is so worth the wait. Highly recommend.
F.
Extremely tasty food which is beautifully presented at a very reasonable price. Menu is extensive and varied with many options for meat eaters, veggies and vegans; including the famous beyond burger (a delicious "meat" burger made from plant proteins).
This all goes down well in the Lounge's fantastic atmosphere from it's great decor and very friendly staff!
Been here twice and wouldn't hesitate to go back and try more of the menu's offerings!
D. K.
Really lovely atmosphere for Saturday evening drinks and tapas. A lovely spot in one of the best parts of Reading. Good cocktails too! Vegan and gluten free menu, also generally good vegetarian options. Can be quite a busy yummy mummy place for coffee during the day so can get a bit busy. There is no rush to leave though and there are board games available which is nice. There is some confusion about whether you can book for under 8 people.
M. J.
We tried this on Tuesday night by chance and was not disappointed. The service was a little slow but then it was explained by the lovely waitress about staff sickness and the manageress coming in specially on her night off to help out, dedication! The food was wonderfully good and the service was great despite being a challenge we didn't mind. We do love the atmosphere in this place and will always come back here.
F. L.
Their food is generally good, I'm a big fan of their eggs, which you can have over a dozen different ways. A well executed combination of a pub and a cafe. In some respects, its a victim of its own success, expect a long wait on a Saturday lunchtime and it can get pretty warm in there.
It has become the social heart of Caversham, very family friendly. Just don't expect a quiet time!
A. H.
Trendy place for trendy Cavershamites.
It gets busy at the weekend so you might have to wait a bit for your food. Usually go for veggie breakfast or the chili egg thing, always tasty. They have these delicious soft drinks that are made with sherbet which are unreal.
We went for tapas in the evening once but wasn't as good as breakfast.
Decent bogs.
o. c.
Excellent breakfast & double espresso . Always find the staff super friendly & welcoming. Have had a evening meal here also .
Lovely place friendly vibe well priced for the quality of food & service .
Ollie 😊
K. R.
A good option for casual dining due to friendly staff, good food serving times (late) and varied menu. Dog and child friendly. One tip - choose your meal based on the main part not the accompaniments as the accompanying bits sometimes aren't as well executed / accurately described as the main.
A. W.
Only stopped in for drinks but it was a nice place to be on a Sunny Sunday. First time visit and it wasn't really what we expected
We had heard it was a favourite haunt of the Caversham Yummy Mummies but it is an edgy bar feel that was pleasant.
Would go back again and will Maybe try the food next time
L. W.
Lunch and tea with a friend. Friendly efficient service. Lovely atmosphere. Thank you.
D. A.
I like this place both for working a few hours, having delicious breakfast or lunch. Best part dog friendly!!
N. B.
Fab decor, amazing kind and attentive staff! Loooved the salted caramel brownie, absolutely delicious! Coffee was great value, delicious and piping hot, perfect for a bleak Monday morning!
T. P.
Nice and relaxed place to have a meal and the food was great. Service was both good and friendly. 👍🏻
A. S.
Fantastic service! Friendly and fast. Food was great as well. The ONLY place ive been to that asked me to fill in track and trace which is great! felt very safe. will be coming back!
W. O.
Good food and good service, but lose a Star because your drinking glasses were filthy really need to sort your dishwasher out!!!
M. W. T. X.
Grungy and eclectic gourmet cafe with good food and drinks. The coffee is delicious (provided that it's not too busy and gets cold) and the food is exactly what you need to work your day up at a good price; as long as you don't mind a little wait.
Perfect for a date - good time to get to know each other and get some delicious food after you've had that spark moment. Even after the 20th spark date it's still the same. The timing and (cleanliness) is the only thing that needs to improve.
S. S.
Lovely atmosphere
Friendly staff
Had a tapas board which was divine salt and pepper squid
Goats cheese spinach croquettes halloumi pepper dish with bread
My sister is gluten free and we are usually disappointed but this place has its own gf and vegan menu
She thoroughly enjoyed her hero burger.busy so we had to queue awhile but not too long.Thoroughly enjoyed it. will go back.
R. S.
They welcome dogs and are the staff are always lovely!
S. H.
A very friendly cafe with delicious coffee, drinks and tasty cakes and innovative main meals. Interesting decor and very child friendly. Lots of young mums and children. Not much sound absorption so can get noisy!
R. R.
Great food served through the day, dogs are made very welcome with water and a dog biscuit provided. The service was friendly. Worth noting this is part of a chain of restaurants, not sure how far it stretches but there are several in bristol and they are all dog friendly.
T. O. D.
The Alto lounge is a stylish place serving lovely food and drink. The atmosphere is always great and it's so cosy, it's like being at home. Dog friendly, parent and baby friendly, baby changing facilities.
G. D.
A lovely atmosphere in this place, relaxing and enjoyable. Unfortunately our order was forgotten and it took an hour to receive our food. That being said, the friendly staff went to every effort to make up for their mistake with complimentary drinks and cheesecake that is to die for! Thanks :)

This is a nice lace to eat with the family, food is really good in my opinion. It is also pleasing to see that they have a gluten free menu for those that require it. atmosphere is good and welcoming.
I. J.
Good beer, relaxed atmosphere, even has a vegan menu....
D. R.
Stunning evening! Friendly, efficient service. Food was excellent. Definitely coming back!
E. P.
Fantastic food, service and a great selection of gluten free food for those with coeliac disease. Brilliant.
J. B.
Great ATMOSPHERE, quirky but cosy decor, great food and a decent price. (Park behind Waitrose for 1.5 hours FREE)
C. B.
Just dropped in for a cheeky glass of wine on a Bank Holiday afterwards! As always staff were friendly. Didn't eat this time but have done so in several of the Lounges around the country and they always deliver a reliable experience.
K. A.
Nice place to just chill and relax. Switch ur mobile off and enjoy the Quiet, specially in off peak hours. A dog friendly place which is great for kids too with a variety of games and colouring to keep tots occupied.
Fresh orange juice is great too!
J. T.
Really relaxing environment and music. The vegan menu has alot of different options and in the last 3 days I have eaten there 3 times and all dishes were amazing. Highly recommended.
J. A.
Friendly staff, good prices. Has its own unique bar style features.
C. A.
We ate here last weekend and really enjoyed the atmosphere. It was very busy on a Saturday lunchtime but the service was prompt and attentive. The quality of the food was first class and I really enjoyed their coffee. Having free wi-fi is also a bonus.
S. F.
Alto Lounge is one of my favorite places to go in Reading. It has this unique environment where you feel comfortable any time, regardless being with friends or alone. You can grab a coffee or a beer or food. Chill out, read a book... It's just a nice, comfortable and feel like home place
M. H.
Good ambience and reasonable service with helpful staffs. It’s a rustic looking restaurant and a relaxing informal eating place where you can relax over a cup of coffee or delicious snacks lovingly prepared.
J. J.
Nice atmosphere, friendly staff. Quite family-restauranty early in the evening but good for a few drinks later on. The food is really nice but the portions are not quite big enough sometimes.
M. A.
Love it here, very friendly, welcoming and relaxed staff always smiling. Amazing food and the chips are the best for miles around! Well situated in central Caversham with parking close by. Definitely worth a visit very soon!
G. M.
It's a nice enough place and the food is usually good but there are always loads of kids and buggies as very family friendly so not relaxing for my taste. Limited choice of beer and wine measures are small compared to most places but still pricey.
K. R.
Nice venue.... plenty of seating inside. A little bit outside. Small array of cakes. Coffee was ok. Serves alcohol and staff were really friendly
C. G.
Good location in Caversham. Menu is good for kids and adults. Standard pub food and does breakfasts. Good for big groups as there are some large tables. Some staff can be a bit rude
R. S.
Very nice place, suitable for quick drink or whole meal and very good veggy and vegan options. Also very good social distancing measures and friendly staff
S. P.
A very popular eating place for most times of day. It is a nice mix between a bar and a cafe, attracting all age groups. It is becoming increasingly popular vegans as it continues to extend its separate vegan menu.
J. G.
Probably the best spot in Caversham for a coffee, an alcoholic drink or a light meal. Children and dogs tolerated. Homely decor, with assorted tables and chairs - doesn't look corporate, although it is part of a chain. The food won't be the best you've ever eaten, nor will the coffee be the best you've ever drunk, but the choice is good. There's a kids menu and vegetarians will have plenty of choice.
There's newspapers and board games for a longer stay.
K. T.
Great food, order and pay at table. Great service
m. f.
Cosy restaurant, typically busy, with friendly and efficient staff who manage to easily maintain a steady flow of food and drinks. Excellent atmosphere, and ambient noise is not intrusive from other diners; leaving you able to relax and chat freely.
L. S.
Relaxed and cosy. Nice spot for a coffee and a catch up, quick lunch, or drinks and tapas in the evening. Have also been to the quiz here in a Sunday night, although can get quite busy. Popular with parents and children, so if you prefer things quiet, watch out for the post school run or weekend brunch, as there will be a LOT of kids!
D. W.
Nice alternative place to get breakfast or brunch but is a little expensive.
E. A.
Friendly staff, good relation quality/price, good atmosphere, and nice music.
E. S.
As always, friendly stuff and good food. Usually food doesn't take long but this time it did. We don't mind waiting longer for food as it's a nice place to be and the kids love it but the burgers and buns came overdone. Everything else was fine
C. L.
Just went in for a coffee. It was full but found a place. Very welcoming and dog friendly.
T. H.
A nice local bar/café, it's good to see local independent businesses doing well. We went for a drink before dinner, there's a fairly good choice of beers and wine, some of the cocktail ingredients were out of stock so limited choice there.
T. B.
Well sought out brunch in Caversham. Around a 5-min queue on a Saturday morning. Good coffee ☕
A.
Nice cafe/ bar. Always busy and has a good vibe no matter the time of day. I would recommend their breakfasts and tappas for sure. Also have great coffee!
J. M.
Lovely place. Helpful and friendly staff. Good service and really good coffee. Love this place.
C. C.
Nice local spot for dinner. No cask beer but they have a couple of decent keg beers. Tuesday tapas deal allows to substitute another drink for glass of wine on request.
J. T.
Incredibly welcoming staff. Kid friendly. Very well presented delicious food. Recently moved to Caversham and I'm so glad this place is there. Don't change!

Great place to grab some breakfast or lunch.
Can get busy during peak hours.
Food is extremely decent and good value.
S. S.
A relative of my German brother-in-law, Gerhard, has just visited for three days and was so impressed by the Alto that he insisted on eating there every night. He loved the atmosphere, the food and the friendliness of the staff. On leaving he said that he wished he could take the Alto back to Norderstedt with him!
L. L.
The Food is always a delight and the friendly staff always make it an enjoyable experience. Nice chilled, relaxed atmosphere everytime 👍
J. M.
Bronwyn and the team are fabulous. Really great service. And so thoughtful. A brillaint place for families. Bravo! 👏👏👏

Lovely friendly Covid safe environment. Staff so welcoming and helpful.Recommend the Lounge eggs!

Always good food. Buzzy atmosphere, and jammed at weekends. Service can be slow, but very friendly, but all that means is you get to relax and enjoy the ambience.
M. V.
Lovely atmosphere. Nice food but a little expensive. Service varies greatly. Other people's kids are often badly behaved. Take control peeps!
F. M.
Nice vibe, good menu. Tried the mac and cheese but it was a bit sickly. Everyone else enjoyed their food! :)
C. A.
This great little eaterie is our favourite hangout in Caversham. It's very child friendly and the food is good. Having decent wifi is a bonus. The service is friendly and prompt and it's a great place to chill out.
A. O.

A. C.

Reasonable food at reasonable prices. Try the All day brunch burger! Wait can be a bit long during busier times.
