J. B.Five guys is a clean tidy open plan restaurant in the Oracle Reading. The food is freshly prepared so not quite fast food. The option of toppings on the burgers is vast and all included in the price. The portion of chips was huge. The food was okay but not the most exciting meal we have had in Reading.
J.Beware - you do not need to order extra fries! My first visit to a five guys and I did not know the burgers include fries - we ended up taking the massive bag pile home with us as it came to about two large portions on top of those we ordered!
Decent fries, burger was alright but I wouldn't say the meal we had (double cheeseburger plus fries & double bacon cheeseburger + large fries and two drinks) was worth the £35 we paid for it. Makes me miss Eds and Nelsons.
S. C.First time back since summer 2020 and unfortunately really disappointed. Patties were too well done than they usually are, so they were dry and not juicy at all. The amount of "all the way" toppings was on the low side. Fries were soggy even though they're supposed to be fresh.
Also no peanuts available, I understand it can be due to covid issue but they could be prepackaged or something similar, as we always really looked forward to having them.
M. E.Great burger. More expensive than McDonald's or burger king, think more honest burger. I *think* their unique selling point is a great burger to go, although you can sit down too.. similar speed to a McDonald's too.
S. A. C.The restaurant is way too noisy because the music is very loud. To take the order you have to repeat several times because it's so difficult to communicate with the levels of the music.
The food was good and well cooked, but we kept going back to ask for some forgotten items. It was a big order as it was 9 of is, but it was a very busy, crowded day, so I do understand.
Overall, it's a nice place for a well cooked burger and good fries. I'm not sure if I would want to go back, though, as the music is extremely loud and staff say they can't lower the volume. I've been to other Five Guys restaurants and the atmosphere is more relaxed.

C. 1.The best fast food burger around! The milkshake on the other hand is out of this world - purchased a salted caramel milkshake this time and it was delicious! Such a rich flavour, certainly identifiable as salted caramel (or any other flavour you purchase). Costly milkshake at £5.25, but I think worth it. Two burgers and two shakes cost me about £27. FYI
D. S.Always loved five guys! I love that you can add anything that's on the extras into your burger and that you can pick two different flavours of milkshake to mix together! I chose salted caramel and peanut butter! My daughter has asked to come here every year for her birthday!
T. F.Awesome burger and fries. Simple but done so well. Price is fairly high but why would you expect McDonald's prices when you get a five guys burger? Only need to order half the fries you would normally. Meat is well cooked (cooked properly) and the food quality is very high. Will be going back for a treat soon.

M. D.My Niece, Husband and I are touring Readings burger joints to establish our favourite. Visited 3 so far and 5 Guys is the current favourite over Gordon Ramsays and Honest Burger. The reasons for this are: they do milkshakes, they do bottomless soft drinks and give you an adult sized cup to put it in. They don't charge you a 12.5% tip. It was quick. Burger was very good and a decent size (Not like GR's!) And there was a large choice of toppings. We have previously had some excellent burgers in Honest burger but the last visit we felt just wasn't as good and can only judge on most recent attendance. So despite GR's being an excellent tasting burger they are currently last on the list overall with Honest Burger next and 5 Guys on top. Only downside was the illuminous yellow American cheese at 5 Guys. Please have an option for real English cheddar also.
B. G.Became my favourite burger place💯🍔.. everything was so fresh and enjoyed my meal there milkshakes are also very tasty and very filling meal.. I was happy with the service I've received very helpful and friendly as it was my first time going there and place was clean very hands on with cleaning which I liked.. I did feel I could have gotten better cut of fries due to I got mostly small off cuts of the fries.. otherwise everything I was very happy with and definitely recommend this place🙂.

M. W.Five Guys has become my favourite burger place ever since I’ve tried it in London for the first time back in 2015. I have been a loyal customer ever since, Reading is my local branch and everything is fresh and tasty. I always enjoy my meals here. The milkshakes are also very delicious, I usually get a Peanut Butter & Chocolate milkshake. Staff is always happy to help and I've received great service every time. The place is always clean whenever I visit.

D. R.For restaurant quality fast food Five Guys is a great option, the burgers are probably the best in town.
The burgers can be fully custom designed with all manner of different toppings and sauces. The hot dogs are also equally delicious but can be a bit fiddly with all the toppings crammed in. The only thing I don't like about the burgers is the bacon - its pre-cooked and is extremely crispy resulting in a bit of a bland taste.
My only problem with Five Guys on the whole is that you are paying restaurant prices for a decent meal but you don't get the same service as you would in a restaurant - its still fast food. But then again at the same time I guess that can be the appeal for people!

Personally, I think a well-configured Five Guys burger can go toe-to-toe with near enough any fancy, gourmet restaurant burger and come up trumps. You're not going to take someone here on a date, but I can't think of anywhere I'd rather eat for twenty bucks.

You get to watch your meal being prepared, which is great. Suffice to say, we came, we ate burgers 🍔 and fries 🍟 and had drinks too. Worth a visit. Oh, they do milkshakes too....

D. B.Burgers are always freshly made and it's your choice of what toppings you want with the burger. If you order Fry's it's always best to order a small as they always throw in extra at the bottom of the bag. Great place to eat. Not cheap but the quality of the burgers makes up for it.
D.Pretty pricey, however that's just how five guys are, although the food is very filling so it's not like it's a rip off and their chips are insanely good for fast food chips. Overall, when you come to five guys, no matter what food you order, you're gonna come out full and satisfied. (Only complaint is the refill drinks, most of the flavours aren't available)
R. C.For the portions you get, the price is very expensive. The quality of food is fine. The chips are cooked nicely and very fresh, but personally I prefer crunchy chips for low oil servings.
There are many other fast food restaurants I can think of which are priced much better.
They do a coke machine with 100 different flavours apparently, but it just tasted the same to me.
The staff were struggling to understand what we wanted, but then it was late and there was a lot of noise coming from the kitchen.
The cleanliness is very good but facilities seem a bit dated.
There is a convenience of asking for exactly what you want, but it's not a lot different from other restaurants except that you start with nil.
Overall I wasn't really impressed, especially when I can get a much better deal elsewhere.

While no one else was being rushed out of their seats we were; even after explaining 3 times that we were waiting on a friend to come before we ordered. Not cool .. not saying it was because we were black and a white lady wanted us to get up but no one else was harassed. But! It was definitely not because we were black.

C. A.I really like the burgers here, and the fries are pretty good, too. The burgers come with a variety of toppings, all at no additional cost, and those add a lot to the flavour of the food. The patties, themselves, remind me a little of In'n'Out in Southern California, though I wouldn't call them the same.
My only complaint would be that, for a fast food restaurant, they are a bit pricey. But I think it's worth it every once in a while.
l.I love Five Guys burgers and popped in for a quick lunch with the other half. Very quick service and super polite staff as always. The food was incredible, particularly the chips which are awesome here! My milkshake was a beaut too! We'll be back!
M. O. G.Honestly, it was the best burger I have ever tried. I ordered the Bacon Burger which does not have cheese and I added lettuce and mayo and it was really good.
I ordered also on deliveroo, and I ordered the Bacon Cheeseburger with lettuce, mayo and grilled mushrooms, and I thought it was really really good. Worth to try.
If you have the money, you should totally go for it, you can have some discounts on deliveroo and that might help you paying for it, since it is kinda expensive to eat there.
I also tried the Cajun fries, I did not like them since they are a little bit too spicy for me and after a while they start to be sickly.
As for the drink, I had the Oreo Cookie Pieces milkshake, and it was really good but I would advise to have your own straw since the straws that they have are made of paper and milkshake is a little bit more thick so you will need a better straw.
Overall, it is really really good, worth to try, but it is a little bit expensive, I guess you pay for the good quality and it's worth it. Fresh meat, fresh potatoes.

In conclusion the food was pretty good and very filling but a touch expensive. I would however recommend it and would go again.
K. L.I am not a burger person, which is why I did not try this burger shop though it is in Oracle for some time. I am quite surprised with the size of the burger. It is bigger than what I expect.
The fries are great as it is completely different from the one you get from other fast food chain. It is ideal for a quite bite. Also, it is inside Oracle so it is convenient if you are shopping there anyway.
N. C.My family went out to the shops for January sales. All 8 of us ordered something different... Even had a gluten free ooyion served in lettuce. Order perfect and very tasty. Especially the Cajun fries.

Prices range from £ 3.99 up to £ 8.99 for food. There's lots of room to sit and the good tastes good.
P. S.Five Guys has successfully exported their burger franchise to the UK, and nothing has been lost in the process.
As an American who now lives permanently here in the UK, I am regarded by quite a few people to be a barbecue and hamburger connoisseur and expert. I can tell you that there are few places in the UK that you can get a burger that is better than a Five Guys burger. In fact, most British hamburgers are terrible by comparison! Dry hamburger patties topped with horrible combinations of toppings. Ugh.
Five Guys still makes gigantic hamburgers. As a larger gent, I still only order a small hamburger because of their size, and my wife and I share a small order of fries because there are so many in the container.
One very nice thing about Five Guys is their desire to use local ingredients where possible. Nowhere is this more possible than the potatoes they use to make fresh chips (which are fabulous by the way!). All of the potatoes are of British origin, with a sign in the store indicating where the potatoes were grown.
The only negative aspect to Five Guys is that it is quite pricey for what it is: hamburgers and fries. Two people can expect to spend close to £30 if both order regular sized burgers, a side of fries and a soda which, in true American style, has free refills.
However, the flavour of the hamburger will soon render the cost a moot point as you delight in a proper American hamburger here in the UK. I cannot recommend Five Guys highly enough, it is an absolutely brilliant meal that you will most likely enjoy and want again and again.
C. S.The staff member who served me was incredibly friendly and helpful. You can pick all the toppings you want for your burger, you just need to decide the base from the main menu. Free refill for soft drinks and they have a great range. Mayo and tomato ketchup for free from their dispensers. Plenty of seating aswell. The burger tasted great!

M. E.Decent burger chain just short of gourmet standard. Burgers are freshly made with no limit on the toppings available, they also serve hot dogs, 2 types of fries unlimited soft drinks from a touch screen drinks machine and milk shakes (not unlimited). Generally the quality is better than McDonald's and burger King but its much more expensive, I personally don't like the burger being wrapped in foil as this makes the burgers a little wet from the moist hot air coming off the burger. They are very generous with the fries, they measure the fries into a small bag and then add a metal trays worth. The hot dogs are OK but pricey for what they are. The drinks machine is a bit of a novelty, the kids like trying the different flavours which are OK but the various flavours tend to taste the same.
UPDATE: So it seems that the dumb sugar tax has now completely removed all non diet options from the drinks machine which is outrageous. If like me you detest diet drinks then skip the soft drinks option. I wish I was made aware of this before purchasing.
FURTHER UPDATE: so it seems that the drinks machine have no revived full fat coke, but you can't order any variant of this, whilst previously you could order, lime coca cola for example. This may be a regional thing, certainly in Oxford the drinks machine was configured this way, I'd have to check more branches to see if this is a new policy.
B.Friendly staff and clean restaurant. My only gripe is that 5 Guys insist on using "fresh" jalapenos instead of the typical pickled variety. Sometimes you cant or shouldn't use fresh stuff. In this case the jalapenos they serve are tough and taste like spicy woodchips. Apart from that their burgers are hard to beat!
B.Great, fast food as always!
The staff were friendly when we arrived and were patient with us while we decided on our order.
We didn't have to wait for long before our order was completed and we were able to find a nice seat overlooking the Riverside which was nice with plenty of natural lighting.
The food was hot and cooked perfectly and we thoroughly enjoyed our meal.
The resturant was clean and tidy and there were always a couple of members of staff around cleaning and keeping the place spick & span.
Definitely a good place to go if you want some tasty, quick food, though it is a little pricy.
G. D.Five Guys is always a fantastic fast food joint. Really tasty burgers and hotdogs with a huuuge array of toppings (at not extra cost). It's slightly more pricey than say McDonald's or Burger King but that is reflected in the quality and portion sizes which are vastly superior AND there's free refills on drinks.
Also forgot to mention, try their mayo, there's something special about it.
P. A.The burgers here were just so-so and they had a double patty. I disliked that but for some it may be an advantage. Together with the fries the price comes close to burgers served in a nice restaurant, so it's not a cheap option, but they have fast service if you're in a hurry.

It’s not a dining experience that can be had to often as your pocket will feel it at an average of £15 for a burger, fries and a drink but WHAT A BURGER! My personal favourite is their bacon double cheese with onion, mayo and relish. Go eat, go hungry, go double!

B. N.This is decent restaurant that makes a good burger and a good hotdog. I don't like the concept though. It feels industrial and basic. I think the intention is to create a vibe where food is being churned out and the seating area is buzzing. For me it doesn't work. Having to order and listen out for your order number, the minimalist décor, and long line for drinks, the paper wrapping and disposable cups feels cheap and since the burgers are not cheap I just don't get it.

M. L.I've been meaning to try Five Guys for a while, and today was my lucky day. Well, kinda.
There were four burger options on the menu, with a load of salad and sauce you can include for "free". I say "free" because at £8 for the burger I can't help but feel that I'm already paying for them.
You order, then wait and watch as your burger creation makes it's way through the busy open plan kitchen area then you collect when they shout out your number. It was a fairly quick process, maybe 5 minutes or so before we were clutching burger goodness in our hands.
As burgers go it was above average, the cajun fries were pretty good too. It's a cut above what you would get from McDonalds et al but given the price you would expect it to be. I'd say it was more akin to the sort of offerings you might find in GBK.
All told my food was pretty damn tasty, so why only 3 stars? It was just too expensive for what we got. 1 large burger, 1 small burger, 2 small fries and a drink was £21.50. I could have a pub meal for that money and as nice as it was it was still just a quick bite to eat on the hoof.
Decent enough, but it failed to topple Dirty Burger as the best burger experience in the world, both in terms of taste and value, would probably give it a miss next time.

You're able to add a whole bunch of free toppings to your burger, too! Go for the small or medium fries, as you'll probably not have enough room left, after a burger, for all of them.
