Good service and ambience.
Appetizers: Average, one of the appetizer we took tasted like McCain frozen snack. Hara bhara kababs had loads of artificial green coloring.
Main course: Kerala parota was really good. Pepper paneer chettinad was very good. Jeera rice was also decent.
They need to improve on appetizers.

I’m eating lunch in this exquisite restaurant several times a week and I’m not planning to stop. Everything I tried here so far was just amazingly delicious. Keep up doing a great job Pappadams!

food was fresh and awesome taste.. especially fish masala starter, fish, malabar parota.. mouthwatering dish.. kids also loved it.. I would recommend to my friends.. and good hospitality must mention this
S. C.
Tasty Southern Indian and Kerala cuisine, warm, cosy place. Busy specially in the evenings given its popularity. Sumptuous, decent portion sizes. Service was excellent but could be a bit faster. Reasonable prices. Credit cards accepted.

Amazing food. We go here for fish and it tastes great. Fish in banana leaf is excellent and so is Goan curry and Travancore fish curry. Although the fish in banana leaf is sold as Pompret, it is not Indian pompret... little bit of disappointment there but the taste made up for it.
We found the Kerala paratha bit oily but the tandoori roti was excellent... overall great food and will come again.

Consistently excellent authentic Kerala cuisine and great customer service!

Went to this little restaurant after a recommendation from someone. I ordered a traditional fish wrapped in banana leaf, chettinad dal, butter chicken, chicken tikka, bhindi, kerala porotta and nans
The fish was good, masala was tasty and it was well done, chicken tikka and bhindi were okay; everything else was below par in my opinion. Nans were too fluffy and nothing like it's supposed to be (crisp and not spongy), kerala porotta was stretchy and chewy and dal was not good at all.
I dont think this place will be my first goto option for Indian food unfortunately.

First time ordering from Pappadams, the food was delicious.

Brilliant food and fantastic deco.
Been here with mates and the Parota, Malabar Travancore fish curry, lamb thalasari, Jira rice and chicken fried rice are fantastic.
Nothing to complain and I strongly recommend this place!

Terrific !!! I have been to this place last Saturday and found the food to be surprisingly different. It is not like an any other India restaurant. The food they serve here is different apart the routines like chicken tikka masala and roganjosh. Both Lamb coconut curry and Prawn Olathiyathu have surprised us. Delicious food and sweet service. Will visit again with family.

Authentic Indian restaurant, our go to place in Reading. If you want to taste Kerala style food, yes this is the place to be.

We frequent takeaways from Pappadams. Taste is delicious, prices are worth it, service is quick. The quality has remained consistent over the past three years. Our first and only choice for a takeaway in Reading!! if you are really after authentic Indian rather than just a curry😊. They've recent revamped their website making it ready to order online.

I have been to this place several times. They serve varies food options and drinks. If you are looking for Indian food in Reading and want a quieter place and spend lesser £ compared to other Indian restaurants then this is your place. Just walk-in and take a seat. Mind you it has some waiting time during weekends.
Food: Great taste, good variety, good price
Ambience: average
Service: very good

This is an excellent restaurant, serving authentic South Indian (and Indian) food. I'd highly recommend this place for connoisseurs looking for real flavours and dishes that's are available in India, compared to other places offering British-Indian food.

FSA rating 4/5 as of 03 September 2020

Nice variety including some tasty fish curries and other dishes not seen on average "English Indian". Recommend, but if in large group arrive early, we went near Christmas as a group of 10 at 8pm, only poppadoms prevented us leaving due to long long wait time. Reducing to 4 star due to poor service, reason was obvious though and normally would be fine.

I had fish fillet in a spicy batter followed by classic chicken curry and pilau rice. The spice balance was good, dry and not too hot. Both dishes were rated mild for spice. Lovers of heat could get their fill with the hot dishes on the menu. Great range of starters and also platter to share options. The restaurant is small. Take away is available.

Service was good. Friendly and efficient. It's a small restaurant, but this adds to it's charm. The food was fantastic, the korma was to die for! Nan breads were the real deal and extremely Moorish. I will definitely be returning for another visit.

A great place to eat South Indian dishes with very knowledgeable and polite staffs, delicious food, good a fast service and best value for money. A good selection of wines at reasonable prices and cobra draft beer. You can park outside at any time of the day by paying on the meter - £3.20 for two hours maximum stay.

It has been in my plan to visit this restaurant, after having had very good word of mouth.
One nice evening, we visited with cousin and family. The waiters were so courteous and they served really hot, delicious food quickly.
On the flip side - It is better to book your table in advance, as there are only limited number of tables.

It's well worth the very short walk out from the centre of town to visit. It may look small and a little down market, but the South Indian food is good. Bear in mind most "Indian" restaurants in England aren't Indian, but Bangladeshi and sometimes Nepalese. It means this restaurant will have dishes that are less familiar and worth trying.
P. N.
Taste was bit on the extreme ends. Mango lassi was way too sugary even for me (I love sweets). Both fish and chicken gravy were very spicy. Chef has to strike a balance. Biriyani was good and can easily be shared by 2 person. Price was ok, service was good.
H. S.
Service was great, food was delicious. Sunday night out and we were only one of two groups there but we will definitely come back.

I love indian food so I was looking for a place to have dinner with my husband and we found this one. We picked because of the good reviews. In the end was all true, the food is delicious! Cozy little restaurant, good staff and prices. It was spicy so if you are not a big fan ask before.
s. n.
I love the fish grill that they serve on weekdays for lunch. It's a little on the spicy side but very very close to what we get back in India. All in all good food.

Keralan restaurant, I went on Sunday for a specific dish called meen pollichadhu, which is my all-time- favorite. Took a long time for this about 25 mins, as it was said to be made traditionally. Taste wAs okay. A small restaurant with 8 x4 tables , as best as I remember. Got very busy, so reserving is recommended. Outside the restaurant, off-street pay parking, gets busy during weekends.
G. E.
Great Food,as always! Debbie had Malai Murg Tikka Shashlik,& Chilli & Coriander Man, I had Chicken Tikka Biriyani. Friendly Staff, always pleasant & polite, inexpensive prices.Thank You all at Pappadams. Graham& Debbie.

Wow did not expect..hidden gem in reading.. very nice and authentic Kerala food.. loved the Briyani, Parotta and nice Curries.. superb worth the visit..
A. F.
Authentic, not pretentious, good food, low prices for what it is 25 quid curry, rice poppaduns and a couple of beers! Style inside is old school and is small the only minus points I can give!
S. M.
Fish was really great. Aalu gobhi needed to be bit more soft but overall food was good and definitely a must try place in Reading. Keep up the same taste.
y. s.
I had hot fish biryani it was lip smacking surlup taste. The other item is omelet which is over cooked and not spicy . But taste is ok .
A. C.
Small and cozy place right on Kings Road. South Indian (Kerala) food. Food is average of compared to real Kerala food. But decent as an option in Reading.
J. R.
Did a takeaway. Food was good and full of flavor. Giving 4 stars for not updating their website about takeaway discounts. They give discounts only for orders above £20.
A. A.

N. S.
Amazing Food !!!
Space sometimes is a problem, but food compensates for all.
Must Try CRISPY Nan Breads .. (not on menu, need to ask )
