Calm ambience, clean and beautifully decorated. Staff were friendly and helpful. I think the owners personally greeted us. Food and drinks were amazing as usual. I think the portion size was a little too much for me but it was enough for my husband so a big thumbs up!

Best Korean Restaurant in Reading. A must go. fulfilled my Hunger for Korean fried chickens. Issue is the sides aren't complimentary when it's common in Korean restaurants. There's also a lack of lettuce portions in the Grill.

The BEST Korean restaurant I’ve ever been to. I’ve been here a couple of times with friends of the years and I must say I really love it here. The food, the service, the vibe it’s all there and you get the essence of Korea as soon as you walk through the doors. The barbecue was delicious, I couldn’t stop chowing down. The waiters for very kind and always ready to help us out if we needed anything. Most certainly won’t be the last time I’ll come to SOJU. This is the spot if you’re down in Reading. Big up SOJU every single time!!!

I like the ambience of the place. It was neat. We didn't have much interactions with the staff so I can't say much about them. I ordered tteobokki and my friend, short beef rib soup with rice. The soup was really delicious. The tteobokki wasn't the best tteobokki I've ever had but it wasn't bad neither. We had Makgeolli too, which was delicious. The cost of food is fair too.

Enjoyed our meal last night here. We ordered the Surf and Turf platter which comes with a variety of meats that are grilled on the bbq. The flavours were great although we had to order extra side dishes as we both had a big appetite😆 Also the chicken/beef dumplings were so good we had seconds. Absolutely no doubt about the quality of the food. I always get the bbq/grill, some kimchi pancakes and glass noodle dishes. My only feedback is the service. They need to be more engaging, polite and consistent with what is needed on the table. I forgive them as the food is too good.

The place has potential. Being understood in English can be a bit of an issue. The interesting part is cooking your own food, being able to see if the meat is fresh before you fry it. A bit expensive compared to the other Asian restaurants nearby, but worth trying it. I also liked the idea they have many Korean products, like Korean Beer for example.

Not too bad! Quality of food is good. The layout is strange but in a quirky way and it does take a while for the staff to come to the table if you are seated at the other side of the restaurant. This is because theres a button at the table to press to "summon" the waiter. In terms of staff they were fine and efficient. Although we did have to wait for our table and had one staff just stare at us until another staff came to direct us to our table.

Recently been here for a date lunch.It is cosy place to sit. They serve several dishes including Korean BBQ, Bibimbap and drinks including of course the Soju. We ordered Gangjeong veg dumplings, woodong noodles and boolgogi soup. It was all good. Recommended for some Korean cuisines in central Reading.

Great authentic experience, the drinks menu is great, especially the Soju itself and so is the BBQ meat which we cooked at our table (we ordered the Surf and Turf BBQ meat). I'd suggest some light music and atmospheric lighting to complete the experience but overall loved my time there. Definitely we book again!

Fantastic customer service. Came in with a 10 month old and our waiter offered up snacks and toys to help keep him entertained. Our meals were delicious and came really fast. We were in a bit of a rush but managed to be in and out in under an hour whilst still having two courses. Would definitely come again.

A good start for anyone who likes the idea of Korean BBQ. Food was good and of expected quality. Me and my other half ordered the seafood platter as our main and some pork dumplings as a starter. All of the tables have an in-built grill to use for your raw platters. as a personal preference I would have liked the heads removed from the prawns but I suppose it's part of the experience of getting stuck in. The main dish was accompanied by a raw onion and dressing salad as well as a savoury and Korean chilli sauce which didn't pack a wallop but was rather a pleasant accompaniment to the food. In terms of drinks there are a wide range so feel free to explore if you'd like to. In terms of service there was a table buzzer which didn't seem to work and I felt the staff to be rather shy unless called over. Something perhaps to be improved upon. Overall it is a good place with good food and don't be shy about letting the servers know that you are ready to order. However I would suggest a word of caution. Take a spare change of clothes since you will be smelling like BBQ by the end of it.

Food is fairly alright although a tad pricey for small portions. Let's not even talk abt the can drinks which are so overpriced! Service was so so. The young man that attended to us was polite and seems to be the only one actually knew what to do. We waited quite a long while for our water and can drinks, another long wait for dumplings and cucumber kimchi starters, which finally arrived after the mains. And even a longer wait to pay the bills!

Great tasting food and the most wonderful manager who made us feel so welcome!! The price us just right!! A little confusing on how the food is completed, as its a cook it yourself restaurant!! Which is a great experience. The portions are varied, the cookable items are not as filling as your precooked portions. Overall ,definitely try it!!

Not amazing, waited 45 mins for our drinks and one of them wasn’t what we ordered. Seafood pancake was disgusting, thick, doughy and cut like a pizza, very strange. The rest of the food was quite nice though. Regardless, wouldn’t come back, lots of better Korean places around.

Located in a quiet area of the city center. Parking is easy enough with Oracle close. Do keep in mind Holybrook parking closes half an hour after the shops. The price is very reasonable for the quality but the service was below standard. They omitted bringing us a dish and (with 3 tables in total) had to keep remind them of what we ordered. Overall OK but dread to think what it would be like with full house. Children friendly.

Hidden medium sized restaurant in a shopping centre style area. Very tasty Korean food with the classic BBQ or a selection of mains and sides. We came in for lunch and the service was fast and efficient, the price was very reasonable but looked quite steap for the BBQ items. Great find in Reading as apposed to the standard chain places.

Super good food, inexpensive and great place for a date or family dinner ! I came here for a date, we didn't book ahead but they managed to fit us in. The place was busy but clean and spaced out. They helped us order and we were both pleasantly surprised and happy with our meal. The meat was fresh and more than enough for both of us. Having some side dishes too it was a tasty and not very expensive date. I would definitely recommend this place !

Came here for Korean fried chicken and the surf and turf bbq. The place is an authentic Korean bbq (modern hot pits). Plenty of Korean drinks to have fun with rice spirit /wine etc. Kfc was lovely flavour not too spicy either. The Bbq food was marinated with great flavour. Only bit we didn't like were the prawns which we didn't like the texture of (we had cooked them!). Overall lovely authentic flavours, would go back.

Always enjoyed coming here but never got a chance to leave a review. This was the first restaurant I dined in post-lockdown and we had such a good time. The owner took our temperatures at the door and asked that we sanitised our hands. Our food came within 5 minutes, almost as soon as the drinks and was heavenly! Can't wait to come back here. We ordered the spicy chicken, seafood pancake, beef bibimbap and tteokbokki with cheese. Food and service top notch, and the place was spotless too - reassuring in times like this.

Prices are similar to those in London but unfortunately the food isn't quite as good, portions are quite small for £20+ for BBQ options. Bibimbap was lovely though. Location is good and staff were kind but a little disheveled, I think they're in need of a few more helpers in order to cope since Korean food is so popular these days. They also boast a small convenience store full of Korean goodies.

The food was average and nothing I would want to eat again anytime soon and unfortunately the service was not good, it was quite slow and not very attentive as the waiter missed a side and the water after we repeatetly asked for them and we never received the side at the end. Maybe it was an off day but the other waitress removed from the bill the missed side and apologised which was nice of her.

Great addition to Reading offering this nice novelty and variety for foodies. Tasty Korean dishes, bbq and seafood range. Definitely worth a visit. Nice touch with the buzzer to call for staff. Though only downfalls are the limited space (so I’d book if there is a large party), as with all bbq the smell can transfer to your clothes. Prices seem reasonable for the overall experience.

Very reasonable price. We paid around £50 for 4 people including drinks, although we could have eaten more. Try Soju (the drink), first time i had tried it and will be trying to purchase some in the future. Overall a Great Experience.

Great meals, fairly slow service at times. We tried the sea food hot pot which is very spicy(!). For any novices: if you order the rice wine - note that you need to shake the bottle first otherwise you will only be drinking clear liquid and all the flavour will be left at the bottom of the bottle.

I am a Korean and just moved to Reading area and found this restaurant and Naeng-myeon (cold noodle) menu so happy and tried yesterday. it was awesome almost same as Korea original cold noodle, although I didn't expect too much because this restaurant's main menu are grilled meat and hot pot mixed rice, this cold noodle is actually not really favourite dish for foreigners. I am pretty sure other dishes are all great because even this not major dish (cold noodle) is fantastic

Me and my husband absolutely love SOJU! The staff are lovely, they have such a warm vibe and are happy to recommend dishes when I'm feeling indecisive (and everything they've ever recommend has been great)! Throughout the various lockdowns when we've been needing something sweet, spicy, and delicious we've had numerous takeaways from them and they've always provided the same marvelous food we're used to dining in for! Portions are generous, inexpensive, the food isn't oily, I never come away feeling heavy or sluggish. My favourite restaurant by far.

One vegan option but it was very tasty, but gluten free option was so, so bland. Korean bbq itself was very yummy and amazingly marinated. However we said we’d never been before and there was hardly any tips on what to do from the staff… kind of stand offish. Uncle Ham, Abraham! What an absolute legend. The restaurant itself is very cosy and nice. Very welcoming. Has the pleasure of being served by the owner, seems like a family run operation, his name is Abraham but he said call me HAM. Food was amazing ! Went for the Korean BBQ style meat, so we can grill it ourselves. Beef was amazing! Think cuts soaked in some sweet & chilli marinade with rice and kimchi it was perfect. Had some BBQ chicken bites to start with and also chicken thighs on the grill along with the beef. The food is 10/10 and the service was even better. Definitely recommend

I visited The Soju with a friend recently after wanting to visit the restaurant for a long time! If you need a quick lunch or dinner, these guys offer great takeaway options for all dietary requirements. I personally like the glass noodle stir fry ane the beef short rib soup. It can be a tad bland sometimes, but the service is always quick, reliable and food generally tastes good

Good set up. Clean. Was busy when we got there before our reservation(30min) and still managed to get a table for four 👍👍👍 👍. We had Korean BBQ and few sides. Taste wise was OK, just a bit pricey with the ratio to what was offered. Service- ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Would I go there again? - 50/50. Definitely not for BBQ but I'd go for the rice dishes. Control measures for COVID- Temperature check for guests and simple registration for track n trace.

This was my first Korean barbecue experience. We went with a group of colleagues and we were seated fairly quickly at around 7pm on a Friday night, without reservations. The food portions we a good size and they even had a few options for the vegans and vegetarians among us. The waitress was nice and she gave us tips on the best way to cook the meat. It was a good experience and I definitely will be going back.

The food is not too bad and the waiters are friendly, but the restaurant has a strong smell of food in the air. When I came back to my hotel room my clothes smelled so bad that the whole room smells like the restaurant itself now. I'll have to take my coat to wash because right now it's embarrassing to wear it as it is. They definitely have to install some strong extractor hoods in there.

Very good Korean BBQ. Service is always nice however sometimes there is long waits for rice due to poor cooking management of such. Atmosphere is modern and fairly nice although expect to be surrounded by Asian eating culture - you need to press buzzer on table to request waiter for instance. We went as a group with lots of eating requirements (high protein, vege and halal) and everyone found lots of options and really enjoyed their food. The idea is great. We all enjoyed cooking our food while chatting, trying some of the unusual drinks on the menu, the quiet, precise placement of our cooking utensils, the really fun condiments. The only thing that was difficult was the noise. There was a rowdy table and the noise from there did make it difficult to talk sometimes. The food was excellent, the staff very attentive, so we will be back perhaps not on a Saturday night.

However, the butterfly marinated beef was incredible, so tender and flavourful, I am definitely hoping to go back and taste more of their food! Awesome Korean BBQ place in Reading town centre. Can cook your own food on your table, which is a pretty awesome feature. Allows you to prepare your food exactly the way you want it, which saves for any disappointed diners! Service is also faultless, and there are always staff on hand to help you out. Quite the hidden gem.

Quick service, we didn't wait long for the food. Nice space, great food and portions are reasonable. Staff were friendly. We had the cabbage kimchi, Ramyun potato noodles w/ pork bolgogi, beef bolgogi BBQ, and Bibimbap bolgogi. There's no exhaust above the Bbq so smoke/bbq smell will stick in your clothes. Will definitely go back and try other dishes in the menu.

I ate here with three others, we had a range of dishes. The food was really good, especially enjoyed the bibimbap. The grill seems like a bit of a novelty but it’s quite fun and not expensive. The service was really quick but practically all of our order was either wrong or forgotten, hence the 4 stars. They have a range of speciality Korean drinks which I would like to go back and try next time.

What a great place for trying something new. I recommend the thinly sliced pork belly and lettuce basket. You cook all the ingredients yourself on a little BBQ in the middle of your table. Wrap it in a lettuce leaf and tuck in. Very tasty sauces too. Only reason it didn't get 5 stars is because the service could have been a bit better. For someone who's never been before, would be a nice idea to explain how the menu works. It wasn't overly busy and we waited quite some time to be served.

I'm disappointed with this restaurant. Service was Ok but their dishes are just average and felt like "fast food " style. We had ramyeon, bibimbap and some appetizers but there was nothing special with them. The serving was so small. There was little meat in them as well. No Banchan (little side dishes such as kimchi) were served before the main meals too - in authentic korean restaurants they always serve Banchan. :(

Its a novel idea and i had a good time, but the food isn't actually that good. The side dishes were quite nice, however the meat wasn't actually seasoned? It left me quite baffled...because essentially it boils down to an experience where the only unique thing that the restaurant offers is korean sauces, drinks and sides. The gimmick of having a bbq is a good talking point though and the service was good!

Reasonable Korean Restaurant. I had BBQ and Soup here. The BBQ is not overly priced, however what was offered could have been more. Very limited seasoning for the BBQ; no Kimchi, no seasoning, just a kind of sauce, a dish of oil, and some marinated onion. The meat was nice but seasoning would have helped. Soup was reasonable, though not the best I’ve had. Service was confusing. I was told to push a “call” button on the BBQ oven to call for service. When I was ready to order, I pushed for three times before somebody came to attend. When checking out, pushed for three times again but nobody even came. I had to wait for another five minutes before I had the bill, and apparently they didn’t care very much about how I was going to pay, even if I’ve already had my credit card ready. Service could be so much better.

Great place for Korean food. We booked the table and it's best to as it was quite busy when we got there. Price was okay. We had beef Bulgogi and pork BBQ. Bulgogi was great. The BBQ portion was unsatisfying and it did not come with lettuce sides which we thought it normally did. Would have given four stars... but we waited almost 10-15 mins without menu trying not to look at other people eat. We mistakenly turned on the table BBQ pan and one of the waiters turned it off but did not ask if we had menu or been served.

Highly recommend. Service: was great, the wait staff were super friendly and very accommodating. They were very speedy and were very happy to help us, recommend cooking techniques. Food: we ordered from the tableside bbq menu: Pork belly, short rib, squid and vegetables. All the meats were fantastic and very delicious (especially the short rib). The vegetables were nice, but took a long time to cook, so if you are going for the vegetables make sure you whack them on first. Price: very reasonable, approximately £22 per head including drinks, for enough food that comfortablt filled me up.

Nice environment with strong air conditioning. We ordered the assorted selection of raw beef for BBQ. It costs £30 with reasonable portion, I.e. ox tongue and steak. Sadly it does not come with a basket of lettus which you can wrap the meat to eat. A basket of lettus costs £5.50 which is expensive. Meats are tender and juicy, and we all love it! We ordered a stir fried chicken udong for kids, and they like it very much. Hot stoned rice also tastes good, but it was not served with the traditional stone bowl which keeps the heat and temperature. So it gets cold quickly. Overall the quality of foods is good and I would definitely recommend it! Waitresses are friendly, but it seems they are new and it took a while for taking our orders/bill etc.

You know when you go to Yo!Sushi or Nando's and the greeter does the whole 'have you been here before' spiel because their ordering system is a bit weird? The Soju could really do with one of those. While England is no stranger to Asian cuisine, Korean food - particularly Korean Barbecue - is still pretty new and the beeper system at the Soju is pretty unusual. Nonetheless we had a great time. The staff were friendly and happy to help, the food arrived quickly, and presentation was plentiful and unpretentious. Everything was fresh, delicious, and authentic, at very reasonable prices. No sugary pre-packaged sauces or oily fried rice to be found. I highly recommend the Ddeok-Bok-Gi as an appetiser for the unusual texture of savoury mochi cakes, the refreshing and spicy spinach Na-Mul as a side, and an assortment of meats, fish and vegetables barbecued at your table. The sauces alone are worth a visit. Near miss on five stars due to a confusing, ragged menu and an unclear ordering/serving system.
