Wow. Me and my partner went here as we were visiting Southampton and it had good reviews. We are both veggie and most of the time the veggie options aren't the best. The veggie options here seem like they are specifically designed for vegetarians in mind. Every part of the meal was fantastic, the starters, main and sides were all cooked to perfection. We both said it was honestly the best Indian we've ever had. If we visit near again (I'm sure we will, even if its just to try this delicious Indian again!) we will definitely be coming back here! Everything tasted amazing, would not have changed a thing. Definitely a must if you love Indian food!

Probably the best Indian in Southampton. It gets very busy at peak times so expect a bit of a wait, but the food is really excellent. I would particularly recommend their kerala paratha as an alternative to naan bread. Also one of the best Vindaloo I have ever had!

You’ll never be disappointed at Kohinoor of Kerala. We’ve been coming here for years now. Booked a table this evening for 7 people, ordered 7 different mains and loads of sides. all the food came out piping hot at exactly the same time, and they kept us topped up continuously with drinks as always. This place is incredible. Up there with the best Indian cuisine I have ever tasted. It's small but very cosy inside and the staff are excellent. Their IPA was superb. Now I love my IPA and I love my lager but this was like a blend of both, delicious but not too hoppy so as not to overpower the flavours of the dishes. The dishes are something else, so many interesting starters, and I'll just say that their "chicken 65" is mind blowingly good. I'm going back for more. it was a hundred mile round trip for me to meet up with friends, but it was totally worth it.

If you want to experience authentic dishes from south India, well this is your place. My wife and I have enjoyed the Chef's food in so many occasions and we're always going home with the same feeling, it's as if you've been on a fantastic journey to India and had just an awesome experience. After searching for somewhere to eat when we docked from the Isle of Wight, we found this wonderful restaurant. We have eaten in a few Kerala inspired restaurants before so we knew it wasn't your typical curry house.... we were not disappointed.... even though we needed a table for 930pm, and due to our ferry, we were still around 15 minutes late, the staff were still more than happy to accommodate. When our order came out, it had clearly all just been cooked as there was no layer of oil on the surface of the curry (which is an indication that the food has been sat a little while) so it had come straight from the pan. The variety of flavours was amazing. The meat was succulent and melted in the mouth.. the vegetable dishes were imaginative and plentiful, while the breads were also cooked to perfection.... As a lover of curries, I often find myself uninspired when presented with a menu, but this restaurant is totally different. Each dish on the menu is well described and you may, like me, order far more than you need. I normally go for meat dishes, but with this menu, there is such an inspiring variety of vegetable dishes, it would be a vegetarians dream also. We would deffinately recommend to anyone.

Lovely little place. Authentic food and great atmosphere. There was accidentally too much salt in the rice we ordered but the management took the review and apologized - we did inform at the end, however the rest of the food was amazing. Chicken pakora especially enjoyed by my kids. Chicken chettinadu- was great! We have been to this restaurant 10 yrs ago under different management. Glad they have kept up the same taste abs authenticity. Highly recommend.

Fantastic food, probably the best curry I've ever had. I always go here on my birthday as a treat, well worth the money even though it's not that expensive. Everyone I have brought with me have found it delightful as well. A nice smaller venue and lovely helpful staff, I would recommend it to anyone in the area or even out if the area, worth the drive. Lots of choice on the menu and vegetarian/vegan options, very authentic, I would recommend booking as it can get busy / booked up early. Either call them or send them an email.

Just been here for 1st time this evening. Everything about this experience was lovely and 5 stars. The two gentleman serving staff were friendly and attentive without being intrusive. Wait time was next to none and all food ordered was hot and tasted fantastic and full of flavour.The meat within curry was soft,tender and not overcooked.There was plenty in portion sizes and couldn't manage all mine,despite wanting to .Restaurant small and cosy spaceciwth relaxed atmosphere,busy but yet calm...nothing was too much trouble here.definately will go again. Shame there aren't more places followongbyour lead.. Keep up the good work .a fantastic night had by us both.

Lots of vegan options available on the menu (I believe everything with the V is vegan not veggie), staff perfectly happy to discuss everything. Beware the naan has dairy in and the pilau has butter, I’m not sure about the other rice dishes. I recommend the masala dosa!

I visited this restaurant with three colleagues for diner and was surprised the place was almost fully booked on a Wednesday night. Fortunately we did get a table and, after now I know why it was almost full. Very friendly service, an extensive menu and great food. Went on a Saturday night with a reservation and was busy, shows the popularity! The food was very very nice, we had a selection of vegtable dishes, meat dishes and breads and rices, (highly recommend for vegatarians as large selection of choices) all the food was of a high standard and the sauces were very tasty. Look no further if you are looking for real South Indian food, not Bangladeshi, not Pakistani but real Indian food. I knew what I wanted to order but still asked for a recommendation which was superb. The Malabar pilau rice was a taste sensation in itself. The service was excellent, not over nor under attentive. Brilliant real south indian cuisine. This is food that you eat in Kerala, so not the usual dishes you get in the standard restaurant. The quality is high. It is of course spicy but you can ask for adjustments. The starter platter is fabulous as are the long beans. I'm not a fan of aubergines buy the dish here is excellent and i always have it. Do try the coconut rice, fabulous Great choice for vegetarians! Go soon but be sure to book as they are always busy..a good sign.

I was in town for a day and I’m glad We went to this gem of an Indian place. Delicious food. Great service. The appetizers were so good my taste buds were sort of satisfied already, then the entree took them to another level! For appetizers we had the mixed kababs, fried onion balls, that thin crispy rice flour bread, and the shrimp pancakes. The entree, the Lamb Vindaloo was tasty, tender and spicy. I like spicy curry and it’s hard to find a place that gets the difference spicy levels just right like Kohinoor. The coconut naan was amazing and so different from any naan I’ve tried elsewhere. Topped it off with a couple of glasses of Mango lassi for a sweet drink to balance the delish spicy flavors 😍

As a regular diner at Indian restaurants, I can honestly say that this is possibly the best Indian restaurant I have ever visited! We have visited Kohinoor twice and both times ordered a variety of dishes that have been stunningly flavourful and delicious. Each dish is totally different, with the true freshness and quality of ingredients combining with flavours that smack you in the face! So far my particular favourite is the garlic chicken, one of the best dishes I have ever ordered at a restaurant. The service is outstanding too, with very friendly, smiling and attentive staff. Looking forward to our next visit!

This place is insanely busy. First day I tried, I was politely turned away. Next day I asked for reservation for one person which was surprisingly accommodated. I ordered Rasam for starter. Tangy and pungent. Just as I wanted it. This was followed by Lamb Chettinad with Kerala paratha. Lamb was good but very different from my other experiences of the same dish. Overall OK. I will have to try more dishes before forming an opinion. As I mentioned, this place is always busy. It affected service. There were only two people serving this small but packed to the brim restaurant. The manager/boss himself and his assistant. My mains arrived half an hour after starter. My server kept apologising. I can understand given how busy they were.

The Kohinoor is open for takeaways so life is worth living after all! We tried our first takeaway a couple of weeks ago and it was well worh the 40 mile round trip.Good food taken away seems to retain flavour/texture better and this kept very well. The food is amazing & the guys are great! It's the best Indian food around! Specifically Southern Indian (the guys are from Kerala, the South Western province of India) so it's about flavour spice rather than hot spice unless you want things a bit cheeky which they will gladly do too. Don't expect the food to get to your table really quickly though because everything is cooked fresh and so can take a little while but it is so worth the wait!!! There's a good selection of wines with Cobra on draught & bottled Kingfisher as lager; ale & cider (Spitfire & Strongbow currently) are available in bottles too. The service is attentive without being 'in your face' and they are happy to guide you through unfamiliar aspects of the menu as there are many things you won't see on the menu at your run of the mill, regular Bangladeshi cheffed Indian restaurant. Definitely one not to be missed!

The Kohinoor of Kerala is warm, welcoming restaurant that serves very very tasty Southern and Northern Indian cuisine. The menu has depth and breadth - chicken jalfrezi to prawns cooked in Kerala style. My favourites are the Munnar lamb and the Aviyal with a basket of traditional Indian bread. I look forward to my next visit and the next.
