Reviews of Lakaz Maman
N. J.
Had been meaning to visit for a while and so glad I did! Loved the cool, bright decor, which gave us good holiday vibes! The food was totally delicious! We shared some of the sharing dishes - the cauliflower poppers were yummy - and a vegetarian main, plenty of choice for vegetarian. My highlight was the "yummy coco bun" dessert which was sensational! Look forward to visiting again.

Sunday lunch here was delicious. The restaurant is small, colourful and had a nice buzz to it. Our waiter was friendly, helpful and efficient (what more could you ask for?), and explained patiently what the dishes were. All of our starters, mains and puddings were yummy. We enjoyed them because they tasted good and also for the fact that they were not standard pub fare. Highly recommended place for a meal
G.
From the outside, this place looked bleh but the interior was a whole different world! The decor was tastefully done complemented by a chill ambiance.
And of course, the food was fresh and tasty! Our table tried the Chicken Cari(curry), Octopus Curry, Anana Confit, Roti, Prawn Fritters, and two of the mocktails. No one complained because it was that good. In fact, we ordered the Anana Confit twice and bought 2 bottles of the Tamarind Sauce (made in house!)
The staff was also pleasant and very patient 🙂

We really enjoyed our meal at Lakaz Maman. The staff are attentive and the meal was superb. We opted for a tapas style meal and were served more than enough with plenty of dishes my vegan daughter could enjoy
A. M.
Nice little restaurant but crammed. We had the gato pina starter and dirty fries, which were delicious. My partner had the mutton rougaille and enjoyed it very much. I had the chicken mango wrap, which unfortunately was not to my taste. We had the alooda and panakon mocktails, both were tasty and refreshing. The star of the night was the ginger cake with vanilla ice cream, which was exceptional.
M. J.
Great food. Great prices. The taste of Mauritian street food was very different but really delicious. Great range of food choices for vegans like us!!
L. D.
Really tasty and friendly service. Go for the Coco Bun for dessert. So good!

I'd been wanting to visit for a while and was so glad I did! We had a lovely warm welcome, love the cool, bright decor - it really did give good holiday vibes! The food was extremely tasty. We went for all vegetarian dishes and they were all delicious, we shared a few of the sharing dishes - the battered cauliflower was so yummy - and one of the

I had wanted to visit Shelina's restaurant since it opened but living 90miles away made it a trip for a special occasion. We finally visited this weekend and it was absolutely worth the wait!
The restaurant exterior was bright and inviting. COVID-19 procedures were clearly displayed and easy to follow. We were served by a waitress who, despite her face mask, could still be seen greeting us with a warm smile.
We took our seats and began soaking up the cheerful decor. The restaurant was nearly full and it was reassuring to see couples and families of different ages and backgrounds all enjoying Lakaz Maman's cuisine.
There's no alcohol on the menu but a BYO policy with very reasonable corkage charges however we decided to stick with soft drinks and were glad we did. The homemade mango and lime iced tea was sublime; fresh and fruity with just the right amount of sweetness and citrus. My husband's panakon mocktail was equally as good although I wasn't prepared to share!
Our starters arrived beautifully presented and smelt delicious. We were already looking forward to tucking in before the first bite! The Mauritian octopus and pineapple was perfectly tender on the inside but wonderfully crispy. The hot and sour pineapple salsa wasn't overly spicy and complimented the octopus without overpowering it. The anana confit was also delicious; the already exotic pineapple had been deliciously pimped and elevated to a new level with the addition of tamarind, mint and chilli.
Lakaz Maman's mains had a hard act to follow yet managed to hold their own! The "real deal" burger of shredded mutton was perfectly tender, sweet, sticky and rather umptious all round. It was a generous portion and even the fries were nicely seasoned. The gato pima house cari packed a vibrant punch where split yellow peas had been transformed into a spicy ball of crunchy goodness basking in a glorious Creole sauce.
Almost defeated by the generous portions, we decided to share dessert and opted for the roasted pineapple with pistachio and ice cream. It was the perfect end to a fantastic meal.
We left feeling Shelina's vision of sunshine on a plate feeling all the better for it. Lakaz Maman serves no frills and unapologetically authenic food (and drink) for the mind, body and soul. It is very reasonably priced given the quality and we feel all the better for having visited. Thank you to all the team for a perfect 30th birthday lunch.

Was well worth the drive from London to Southampton. Staff are super friendly and accommodating, was well looked after. The food is mouth watering good. Would have had everything on the menu if I could hehe. Would recommend anyone to pay a visit and to have authentic Mautitian dishes.
V. G.
A tropical paradise! First dates, family meals, girls nights Lakaz Maman is perfect for every occasion. The food is incredible and the fact you can buy sauces to take home means the experience lasts as long as possible. My friend asked me what I recommend and I honestly told her "everything!" It really is that good.
J. T.
Delicious and different! Great for vegetarians and vegans alike. I'd recommend the cauliflower poppers as the chutney they came with was delicious. Chocolate Pot was a really nice dessert treat. Aesthetics and atmosphere were very pleasant. staff members were brilliant too, being more than happy to help and meet our needs. Would certainly come again.
P. C.
The starters, especially the lamb ribs were delicious. Both of my companions are Mauritian and although they liked their mains which were similar to back home, they said the roti was inauthentic. Apparently it should be flakier and crispier. Overall we had a nice time; the food was good but nothing amazing.
C. B.
Food was delicious! Had been meaning to come here for ages and definitely didn't regret it. Even ordered more food to take away for dinner!
A. H.
The atmosphere was very in tune with the food and that was lovely. Had Mauritian food for the first time and it was amazing. Especially the sauces! The meat (lamb & chicken) was delicious and very tender. Loved that it fell from the bone so easily!
I. H.
I was bit skeptical about this place, I'm not the person like to try different types food, wife took me there. Wow, I must say I really like the cauliflower pakora, pineapple was very different and nice. Overall really nice food definitely I would go there again if i go back to Southampton.
K. H.
Great place for a different regional twist on 'a curry'. Really light and fresh.
Bear in mind that they don't have a licence so BYOB, unless you want to try one of their funky mocktails.
r.
Fantastic food. Fantastic service. Friendly people. No rush. Great atmosphere. Such a refreshing change from everyday restaurants. Something special and surprising in Southampton. JUST GO!
Y. S.
Excellent experience! Great quality fresh food with bold tasty flavours. The staff are attentive without being overbearing. I'd highly recommend.
K. M.
I have mixed feelings about this place. Very good location, great service and overall nice vibe (although music could be a bit less intrusive). I really liked the BYOB approach, I haven't seen it in too many places. However, the food was just OK - dirty fries were slightly undercooked (and didn't seem to be made from fresh potatoes), prawn starter was served on what seemed to be a supermarket lettuce mix. Tamarind lamb ribs were the best choice among our starters. For main course we had the seafood special magic bowl - it tasted ok, but it wasn't anything special, the same dish could be easily done at home - it's not exactly what you're after when you go to try street food from a far-off place. At the same time prices are quite good and you get a large serving - I barely managed to finish the main course. Overall, the place is fine for an informal dinner if you want to go out but don't expect anything really special.
N. B.
The cauliflower popcorn was very moreish. The pineapple dessert with ice cream delicious, and the salted caramel chocolate pot out of this world. Service good too. And bill not a nasty shock either.
T. A.
The food was good, the service was lovely.
D. J.
Absolutely stunning! An excellent selection of Mauritian treats, brilliantly prepared and very well priced. Make sure you go for the Yummy Coco Bun.
B. D.
Fantastic restaurant. Everything from the home made mocktails to the main courses were amazing, tasted great and were full of flavour. Would throughly recommend and will be returning soon. Service was excellent too. 11/10!
R. G.
Delicious food with a great relaxed friendly service and atmosphere
N.
Interesting, unusual and tasty food from Mauritius.
Two of us shared 3 starters and one main:
Octopus & Pineapple (excellent)
Cauliflower Poppers (hotter sauce than we expected)
Prawn Fritters (aioli sauce)
Cari Chicken (curry with rice)
and this was more than we could eat and cost only £43. Great value.
N.B. they don't serve alcohol but will happily charge £5 corkage if you BYO. Sainsbury's nearby has a not very exciting range of chilled wines but don't try to go too subtle for this spicy food.
We accidentally ordered two kinds of fritters. I would suggest that they offer a tasting menu, especially for first time visitors.
K. M.
Omg first experience of octopus 🐙 and it was the best thing I have eaten in forever! So tender tasty and I just want more. Definitely recommend x
K. M.
Absolutely amazing and delicious lunch for a pre Christmas treat. We'll be back for puddings another time
D. D.
Truly wonderful. Mauritian inspired food from Shelina Petmalloo the 2012 MasterChef winner. I can personally recommend samosas and the mango chilli ‘wow’ chicken wings starters. My main course of Mutton Rougaille was tremendous followed by roasted pineapple 🍍 Shelina was a very welcoming host. Strongly recommend 👍
J. B.
Absolutely gorgeous food. Make sure you haven't earen for a few days before as it's very filling. Lovely atmosphere.
C. I. M.
Food was okay. Chicken wings were a bit of a let down (tasted like they'd been rapidly cooked from frozen). Pineapple dessert was disappointing: was neither light or refreshing.
Service was friendly.
K. J.
Wow wow wow! Authentic great tasting Mauritian dishes. Great vegan and gluten free options also. We loved eating here so much during our stay in Southampton that we visited 2 nights in a row. The cauliflower poppers were amazing as was the pineapple confi. We ordered the Gato Piment Cari with rice, roti and chips (on both nights)... Spicy, great flavours without being too chilli hot! The staff were friendly and attentive. Definitely worth a visit if you're ever in Southampton.
C. B.
Overall a great dining experience in terms of the food! Service is just ok the staff could do with learning how to smile and be happy. Crab starter is amazing likewise the curry is great too. Not sure I’d return only because menu is limited but I am glad I tried it.
J. L.
The food was lovely as expected, however the service was a bit slow as we had to wait for about 20mins in the cold to be seated (we had prebooked previously).
The food was great, we really liked the pineapple dessert and prawn head starter. The coconut bun and octopus with pineapple was pretty good as well.
M. M. (.
Incredible food, completely different to anything I've ever had.
Perfect balance of sweet and savoury.
K. L.
Great food and lovely atmosphere. All my 3 children enjoyed it too. We were tempted into trying starters and pudding as well as the main course as there were so many things we wanted to try. Will have to go back again to try the rest!
L. A.
Delicious food, very different from anything I've ever had. The food had sweet flavours incorporated which I loved as I have a sweet tooth! And the Coco bun dessert was FANTASTIC. Service was top notch, even when some stupid woman threw a drink on the floor next to us and smashed a glass everywhere. Would definitely recommend.
H. A. L.
Great flavours. Would recommend the bun dessert. Had the magic bowl but the chicken tastes like it was frozen. Overall a nice cozy place with a warm ambience.
T. W.
Fantastic street food joint! Great service and menu selections not found in mainstream eateries. Highly recommended the crispy marituian octopus and pineapple salsa 👌
A. B.
Most amazing flavours, super fresh and vibrant with a relaxed and chilled atmosphere. 10/10 (actually scrub that, this place goes up to 11) will visit again
S.
My husband and I wanted something a little different. The restaurant is small but really relaxed and the staff are awesome.
The food portions are smaller than expected but the food is so good!
We will definitely be back and we would recommend this place to anyone!
S. P.
Came here for a quick breakfast and was so impressed. There were 3 choices (much more for lunch), we had all 3 and they were delicious. I eat a lot of different foods and this was the best breakfast I've had in a long time.
A stacked muffin with an egg on top with bacon and sausage it was really the salsa that made this dish but it was all very tasty.
A slightly spicy tomato and egg (shakshuka style) dish. Full of flavour.
Spiced sweetcorn fritters perfectly seasoned with a lovely dressing.
Very impressed and each dish was only 6.95. Will definitely be back.
G. D.
I was really looking forward to this with high expectations from the reviews but I must say I found it over rated. The food is alright. The service was poor. Sat there with no drink for 40 minutes and had to ask for condiments and serviettes twice...eventually getting them myself.
A. z. A.
1st time trying Mauritian food. A slight different twist to Asian (indian/pakistani) cuisine which we regularly have. Mauritian curries are more tomatoey and the rice is fragrant and fluffy. Will try the starters next time and maybe a seafood dish. Mocktails are refreshing, and the decor and ambience is nice
E. S.
Popped in for a breakfast service, amazed at the quality of the food. I can only imagine how nice a lunch or dinner service is. Nice calming decor and friendly staff too. Highly recommended!
A. D.
Wow what a find...Fabulous ambiance and amazing service. The food is completely authentic ..I can say that as a British Mauritan just as good as Mum's. The starters especially the gateaux piment and selection of sauces are fantastic. .bear in mind it's spicy. Drinks are soft drinks and mock tails not alcoholic drinks. A great place for a date, dinner or juat a quick lunch.
S. S. (.
Delicious food, I had the samosas, chili bites and prawn fritters to start. All amazing, well cooked, perfect spice level and tasty!
For main I had prawn house cari with a roti bread and dirty fries. Plenty of rice! Delicious curry and the roti bread was realllllly good! The fries were cooked perfectly, the kind of fries that taste good on their own! Don't need any salt or sauces!
For dessert the yummy coco bun and my god it lives up to it's name! SO GOOD! The caramel was delicious and the brioche bun was perfect, smaller than expected overall but just the right amount!
Highly recommend Lakaz Maman 😊
A. B.
Great food, decor and service. Would recommend the sweet corn ribs for veggies!
E. G.
Great food, cooked to order. Lots of healthy vegan options too.
D. B.
What an experience. The food, vibe & service is exceptional. I’ve waited 9 years to try this ladies food after being mesmerised by her food and personality back in 2012. Took the family. My 8 year old daughter said it was the best food she has ever had 10/10. A gem of a place. My belly was well blessed.
G. M.
You can't help but love this place! The food is a good as you'd expect from a Masterchef winner! The Mauritian cuisine is so tasty, especially when prepared so well.
The BYOB policy is a plus too; you get to drink your favourite wine at an affordable price (just £5 corkage)
K. G.
Exquisite home made food from Mauritius. Very friendly staff. Definitely will be going back for more delicious food.
D. R.
Friendly service. Great tasting food.
Fun style if menu. I really enjoyed the evening. Thx
L. K. L.
Cute interior, lovely concept and lovely staff, but the samosa starter and Prawn & Mango wrap was not very flavoursome. Slightly disappointed as had high expectations on this place based on the reviews and the menu. Food I tried unfortunately did come across authentic.
P. R.
One of the best gastronomic experiences that you can have in Southampton. Great value for money. I ordered the chicken and prawns bowl and I don’t regret.
R.
Lovely restaurant with great staff who are very accommodating, helpful and knowledgeable about the food and products on offer. The food was amazing and reasonably priced for the portion size, would highly recommend this place to anyone looking to try something new. You will not be disappointed, the menu is mix of traditional Mauritian and some classics like a trust burger and chips for the less adventurous. This place also offers a BYO policy allowing for you to bring your own drink (for a small price of course) however very reasonably priced if you ask me.
If you are thinking of going to this place. Do it. You will not be disappointed. Just don't forget to book!
R. L.
Great tasting food and the portions are very generous for the price. Great Vegetarian/Vegan options too!
K. K.
Delicious food that always reminds me of where my family comes from. Come and enjoy the good food, vibes and music that brings the joy of Mauritius to Southampton in a great way.
M. P.
Very good food. The waitress was amazing really friendly and smile all the time.really nice place.we will come back
A. 0.
Fantastic food and friendly service. Full on a Monday night which tells you how good it is
K. G.
Delicious, flavoursome food and fantastic, friendly service. Always try to pay a visit when in the area. Often busy so booking recommended, although they did manage to squeeze us in for which we were very grateful.
D. T. K.
Visited here based on the web reviews and it was really mouth watering! The mint chutney is the most authentic I have had in a long time! The braised mutton was delightfully soft, succulent and melted my palate.Definite recommendation for such a competitive price!
The Rougaille came a close second but look forward to try the other mains in due course.
Struggling to choose a starter? Tuck in Gato Piment !
L. R.
This is always such a pleasant and different night out! Good food in a cafe style ambient eaterie.
T. R.
Cozy atmosphere, friendly staff and incredible food! We tried the chicken wrap and burger as well as the cauliflower starter and it was all so delicious. The ice teas and mocktails are fantastic as well, especially the mint lemongrass ice tea
M. H.
Fab ambience with some amazing flavours.
The pineapple and octopus starter was a big hit. As was the dessert; Mango n Lime pie and Coconut Banoffee.
S. P.
A brilliant small cozy Mauritanian styled restaurant ,great freindly service and lovely food .very accomdating for my Daughters 40th birthday meal. Can highly recommend
M. D.
Absolutely fantastic, great service and a totally new flavour that I have never experienced before. I thought the desserts were expensive though.
A. S.
Great food. A real surprise in terms of what we expected. The weird and wonderful flavours and combinations really make this place special. Highly recommended!
K.
Really fairly priced and delicious food. My partner is part Mauritian and he said the Magic Bowl dish reminded him of something his dad used to make.
Generous portions and beautiful interior. Felt clean. Efficient staff.
Quite small inside so probably sensible to book at busy times. If you are a bit hard of hearing it may be wise to go at quieter times as it can get a little noisy.
R. C.
Love this restaurant, run by a previous Masterchef winner Shelina Permalou. Interesting and different cuisine. A little corner of Mauritius right here in Southampton.
F. T.
Love the menu! Good vegan options and never gets boring.
D. M.
First time here and had heard only good things which weren’t wrong. The food was fantastic and possibly some of the best I have had out. Had the octopus as a starter and it just melted in the mouth. This was followed by the mutton curi ( correct spelling from the menu) which was delicious. Spicy but so tasty. Bring your own is great and is only £5 corkage which means you can take your favourite wine and it is still inexpensive. Great place and highly recommend a visit and guaranteed that I’ll be going back.
D. C.
Really nice place for lunch
Could of eaten all of the starters on the menu rather than have a starter and main
Looking forward to visiting again
S. C.
Beautiful ambiance and divine food. Service was excellent.
I. B.
I've seen other reviews reference the authenticity of the food and I can't speak to that, what I can say though is that the food is marvelous. Every single item I had off the menu was a wonder of perfectly balanced flavours that hadn't been overly tamed to suit a western palette. The cari was mild and similar to an Indian takeaway but had the benefit of perfectly braised and seasoned meat and fish running through it. The real show stoppers were the Gajaks and the sauces. Each one I had was a delight and I'll definitely be back again.
G. D. T.
We have visited this restaurant several times now and always had a great time. The food looks amazing and tastes even better. It's nice to visit a restaurant with more than one vegan option, and a pudding too. We can't wait for our next visit and would highly recommend to all family and friends
E. R.
As a restaurant I can’t fault it, friendly helpful staff and delicious food. However I was really disappointed with it when ordering through deliveroo. There certainly wasn’t any need for a roti as there was barely any cari to dip it into - I feel like I paid £16 for a bowl of rice! I’d eat at the restaurant again but definitely not bother for a night in.
S. L.
10/10 really deliscous, great atmosphere, good sized portion, couldn't fault it
M. D.
First visit. Absolutely loved it. First time eating Mauritius food and it was amazing. The restaurant was really cosy and homely. The staff are lovely and super friendly. Glad it's only 20 minutes away. Gives me an excuse to go and try some more of their fab dishes.
R. R.
Absolutely unreal!! I cannot recommend Lakaz Maman more if I tried. The food is incredible! The staff friendly & the service quick & efficient.
Oh did I mention the food is ridonkulous?
N. H.
Unusual menu and some interesting flavours. Worth a visit. BYO. £5 corkage but still cheaper than buying a bottle on restaurant.
G. K.
absolutely buzzing little restaurant, and definetly something different to try. they dont serve alcohol but you bring your owm and they charge corkage, which in honesty i think was pretty good because you then focus more on the food which tastes fantastic.
R. E.
Really tasty and interesting food. I would recommend!
s.
Absolutely delicious food and fabulous service! What more could you want?
Y. R.
Great food with a lot of flavour & very attentive service, definitely be coming back.
E. W.
Amazing food, genuinely one of the best meals I've had in a long time. So unique and delicious. Served by Stu, who was so helpful and friendly, as a Southampton local I'd recommend here to anyone
I. M.
An excellent pre theatre meal. Superb value for money too. A good thing is you take your own drinks and don’t get charged corkage
Y. Z.
The food was good, as was the service. But the quantity was an absolute joke. Even my 9 year old nephew was still hungry after eating an normal meal. I was still hungry after the meal despite spending over £100. Wouldn't return.
S. N.
Great place, great food. The 2 waitresses were really efficient, pleasant and worked so hard. Because of the lockdown we haven't been for a while but we will definitely go again soon. Brilliant evening.
J. M.
Fabulous food. Definitely worth a try. Cauliflower poppers and the jackfruit burger was delicious.
E. D.
One of those few places in England where I did not need to put in more salt and pepper on my food. It's cooked just right! 👍👍
E. F.
Lovely food and a brilliant atmosphere, a really unusual Sunday lunch.
S. K.
Delicious home cooked food with authentic high quality ingredients. Ambiance resembles Mauritian street kitchen. Waiting staff were very friendly and polite
C. W.
Fourth visit - food is always amazing. Beautiful plates and special seashell spoons just add to the already amazing restaurant. The atmosphere is casual, typical of a Mauritian home. The manager there is faultless. On one occasion we got to see Shelina herself. How lucky we are. Plan to visit again in October - although not local, it is ALWAYS worth the visit. The gajaks are unreal and I especially recommend the octopus starter and octopus roll. And the coco bun....my goodness. Delish!
A. M.
Great food and wonderful service - would highly reccomend
E. H.
What a little gem of a restaurant! The food really was excellent! Great service, BYO, great value, what more could you ask for. A must stop if you're visiting Southampton. The butter bean cari/curry, with roti, was delicious! Many had the octopus for starter and pineapple for dessert. Worthy 5 stars!
r. w.
We had a delicious lunch at Lakaz Maman. Excellent staff and service, wonderful menu with lots of tasty fresh ingredients, great value, lovely atmosphere and decor - I can't speak highly enough of it!! We will definitely be coming again! xx
M. S.
Wow! We just stumbled across this fantastic little restaurant. Mauritian food isn't something we had tried before, but it was absolutely beautiful. We will definitely make this a regular place to eat.
M. B.
Amazing food & big portions so great value for money...
S. J.
Amazing GF options good for my celiac friend make sure you bring your own booze
F. S.
Totally in love with this restaurant. Chocolate milkshake topped with whipped cream on top😍 yyuummy! Highly recommended
I. S.
Wonderful food, friendly staff, a must visit
L. W.
Excellent all-round experience for my birthday today. Great great food, great service, great staff & nice little touch with the 'Happy Birthday' message.
Would definitely recommend & will definitely be going again.
Thank You
K.
Can't really fault the food, had a few plates for the table, all delicious. Reasonably priced for what you get, portion size is decent.
Fantastic selection of dishes and sides that are all, as far as I can tell, an absolute compliment to the culture the represent.
Drinks are a slimmer selection but you can bring your own booze for a small bottle cap charge.
Atmosphere is great, nice cozy and busy feel without feeling crowded.
Would thoroughly recommend for casual dinners, bites to eat or dates.
M. S.
Cute little restaurant with tasty dishes and fast and friendly service.
T. S.
Wonderful to see an authentic Mauritian 🇲🇺 restaurant. Excellent food, at a great price. If you have never eaten the food before do try the Gato Piment, it's a dish regularly eaten in a Mauritian households and this version was a perfect starter. Shelina and her staff were lovely hosts. This restaurant is a gem and rare as us Mauritians know too well. Keep up the good work 🤩.
D.
Took a takeaway this time, really nice quality samosa and gato pima. Good quality and very tasty. Every thing halal I believe.
Next time will eat in.
s. w.
Staff couldn't have been more helpful with my complex dietary issues, and it's a gorgeous place. Such a warm vibe, like being transported across the world. Highly recommended!
M. K.
Very nice meal, spicy but not too hot. And very large portions. Will definitely go again. Only thing to note is they do not serve alcohol but you can take your own and pay a corkage fee. That shouldn't stop one going, though !
M. M.
Nice casual dinner, booked last minute. They made us aware they don’t serve alcohol when we booked and it’s only £5 for corkage. Had samosas to start which were really good. Mutton cari curry for main which was delicious. My partner had the same curry with red snapper. Shared the sticky toffee and ginger cake for dessert, was really nice just wished it had more sauce.
R. H.
Great food with a good selection of gluten free options.
A. B.
Really enjoyed myself, went with my family (a couple of whom don't eat a huge amount) so managed to sample quite a few of the different dishes and everything I tried was delicious. The atmosphere was nice, quite a small place so not a huge number of tables but I didn't think it felt too cramped. Can't really fault it at all. I would recommend bringing a beer or two (light ales/lager) as they don't sell alcohol but it went really well with the food! (Small corkage fee per bottle)
C. P.
Okay so I came here the night before lockdown, not having ever tried Mauritian food before or been to this restaurant before, THE FOOD IS 10/10, soo delicious and nutritional. The food tasted so authentic and tropical, we went for a full 3 course meal and every single bite of food from the starter to the dessert was like heaven on a spoon. Not to mention the lovely accommodating staff and knowing that the MasterChef winner owns this restaurant, she is lovely! Give this place a go, you wont regret it :)
Y. K.
It was a new experience. I enjoyed all the different flavours. They don't serve alcohol but you can bring your own, there is a corkage fee. I had a mutton burger and it was amazing, the best I had!! For pudding I tried the coco bun and was pleased with my choice.
K. D.
Cozy ambience with a mouthwatering menu. Make sure you walk in with an appetite.
n. i.
Really enjoyed the food, Customer Service was great.
F.
really lovely atmosphere and great food at great prices!
H. H.
Very tasty food, quirky little place. They don't serve alcohol but you can bring your own for a small corkage fee.
I had a mocktail Mauritian Sunrise which was really good. I then had red snapper curry with yellow rice and a side of sweet potato fries which was also very good. The pea and mint puree was a bit spicy for my taste, but was very interesting!
Followed by a delicious dark chocolate pot with salted caramel and cream. The Little pot was just right, rich and satisfying.
Service very friendly.
A. R.
Amazing amazing amazing covid safe and absolutely top quality food
S. S.
Delicious, spicy, authentic food. Can't ask for much more! I tasted flavour combinations I've never experienced before in my life, at a very reasonable price too. Service very friendly and fast also.

Fantastic food. The flavours in the food served here were truly fantastic. The only reason that the restaurant lost a star was because of the lack of choice for vegan desserts. Even worse was the fact that I had already checked the menu online and found a suitable dessert, only to be told that it wasn't vegan anymore. Had I known at the beginning of the meal, I would possibly have chosen a different meal!
Even so, what we had was lovely and since there was no alcohol being served, the total price was very reasonable Indeed.
A. K.
Starters were absolutely exceptional - one of best cooked octopus I've ever had! Mains were decent but nothing to write home about. Desserts were tasty, with a good selection and more unusual than the standard affair. Very friendly and prompt service and reasonable prices.
Minor negatives are that the mocktail I ordered turned out to be fizzy and the restaurant was a little bit on the chilly side if you're not wearing a jumper!
P. H.
Good spot if you like spice and something a little different. Love the spicy chicken wings, the mocktails are pretty tasty as are their iced teas. Service can be a little bit and miss. Have eaten here a few times but the menu has been cut back recently which is a little disappointing.
C. S.
Great food in a comfortable, informal and friendly atmosphere. The prawn fritter starter is awesome, but even that it outshone by the chicken and prawn magic bowl main course. I defy anyone to find a better value and better quality restaurant in Southampton.
V. D.
Good service, didn't have a table booked but they managed to squeeze me in. Busy for a Wednesday night showing its popularity. Every dish I had was very good. Tried the specialty juice and that was surprisingly tasty despite having my reservations. There is a byob with corkage for those who want a drink. Can't fault the food. Only downside is that there is no restaurant in London!
A. B.
A wonderful little restaurant with very good staff. The fusion of cultures makes the menu unusual and exciting. It was a very popular place for a Tuesday, catering for couples and larger parties. Limited seating means you need to book for busy times, I was lucky as a lone diner to get the last spare table!
Checkout ther website and read about the amazing journey the owner took, fascinating.
L. H.
Really great place to eat. Food was exceptional and very reasonable. I would travel a long way for food like this. Ambience was also great. Love this restaurant.
L. W.
We had an absolutely amazing meal here. I've been wanting to come for ages but was worried I wouldn't enjoy any of the food. The curry I had was quite like a Thai, it was slightly spicy and coconut milk based. There's a huge selection to choose from, with each of the mains having different protein choices (we had a mutton and an octopus option). Pudding was amazing too, like an adult version of a rolo yoghurt. £50 for 2 for 3 courses!
D. E.
Delicious food with a generous portion! Great customer service along with the well decorated interior! Highly recommend!
J. L.
Unique mix of flavours, deliciously blended, piquant with spices and fresh herbs and enough heat to perk the palate. Really outstanding seafood starters recommend the prawn fritters and octopus.
S. B.
A small but unusual menu, laid back style and great service made this a fantastic meal out. The mocktails are delicious! Really nicely decorated, the restaurant feels light and friendly. They don't serve alcohol, but you can bring your own wine for a corkage fee. Most importantly the food was fantastic... Expect lots of coconut and pineapple and octopus dishes. The only downside was the poor coffee at the end but otherwise full marks.
J. k.
Fantastic food, delicious flavours which work really well together. The staff are really friendly and provided a very efficient service. We visited as a group of 5 people and none of us could fault this place! We visited on a weekday lunchtime. It was reasonably busy and we hadn't booked but we were shown a table straight away and we didn't wait long for our food. The atmosphere is very warm, welcoming and relaxed. We will definitely be coming back again soon! 🙂
T. N. (. C.
Good in quality but not in quantity. The sticky ginger cake can be too sweet for some
S. J.
Loved it. Excellent food, excellent service.
A. B.
Group of 4 for a quick mid-week lunch. This is very different, fun and lively cafe. The food and beverage offer is excellent. They do corkage for those wishing to consume alcohol. Believe me you don’t need it as the drink varieties are really delicious! Will return! Especially on a dark dismal day when cheering up and warming up is required!
T. G.
Small portions but very nice curries! Choc brownie with salted caramel sauce delicious!
A. P.
Second time I've visited this gem of a place, and I can't fault it. Super tasty food, fun atmosphere, good prices, lovely night out.
O. P.
Mocktails tasted nice.
6 gato piment for 5.95 - ie approx £1 for each-Steep!!
Roti was not fresh, was crunchy like poppadum.
For mains, Rougaille tasted nice & Magic bowl lacked flavours & magic.
For dessert we had yummy coco bun and roasted pineapple, both tasted delicious.
Overall average experience.
C. H.
Great service and fantastic food. Favourite place in Southampton
k. k.
If you like Street food served beautifully you'll totally fall for this place. The Mauritian flavours really make a wonderful change to the usual range of restaurant offerings. I'll surely be back to explore some more.
D. Z.
Food and service is brilliant! The staff are very knowledgeable and enthusiastic, they were able to offer help and advice on the menu and were very welcoming. The food was delicious and the menu choices were exciting. The only draw backs were the venue and the lack of a alcohol licence. The tables were extremely small and you will find yourself a bit cramped, it's nicely decorated but poorly laid out. The added need to bring your own alcohol will add to this cramped feeling. The corkage fee is quite steep considering you have already paid and you need to bring it yourself. It was a fun experience but make sure you go with someone you like as you will be sat very close to them!
J. W.
Absolutely fantastic lunch yesterday..
The flavours were amazing. Makes me want to go to Mauritius on holiday....couldn't fault anything. Even the loos were great....always a good indication of a good establishment. Thank you Lakaz mamam. ..will remember your food for a long time
.
E. T.
Really cute atmosphere and design. Food is great - some dishes are amazing (salt cod fritters, pulled chicken burger) and some are a more average (chicken wings, stir fry). When the dishes are good they are phenomal so great dinner place. Shame they don't sell the sauces as these are fantastic
B. B.
Compact and nice ambience. Food tastes great! Prices range from £7++
C. H.
Fantastic restaurant the menu is filled with veggie and vegan friendly items too so theres something for everyone here 😊 plus bring your own booze!
Great value for money and great service
C. S.
The atmosphere, food and service certainly didn't disappoint. In fact I was in heaven! It's always a bit nerve racking eating in your own, but I was made to feel very comfortable and the food was the best I've tasted! I can't wait to buy the book. Looking forward to visiting again! I just wish you had a branch in Brighton.
L. H.
First of all it was bring your own booze and they change for that £5 for a bottle of wine. It was very small restaraunt and very cramped. The starters were good and had lots of flavour but the mains were quite bland. Paid for 2 course and still didn't feel that full. Service was fast and the staff were very polite
J. W.
Really, really delicious. Friendly staff. The nicest restaurant we have found so far in Southampton!!!
T.
Just went with my wife today at lunch, really loved the octopus curi, the sauce was so rich but refined packed with beautiful flavours. The fried prawn and octopus fritters were superb, a different style of batter than I've had before. We actually ordered it twice! The chocolate samosas were lovely, the flavours work together with the coolie so well. I definitely recommend this place as delicious Mauritian food!
I. T.
Fantastic Mauritian street food. Came here with two friends and we all enjoyed our meals. The food is all cooked fresh. I particularly enjoyed the curry, although wouldn't recommend sending the extra money on roti - get an extra starter instead!
J. S.
One of my favourite restaurants. So colourful and homely. The food is fantastic especially that milky ice cream bun for pudding!! It's great you can take your own wine and beers in as well.
K.
First time sitting in, and it was great with the eat out scheme. Samosas and chili balls to start, followed by a butterbean wrap for a main course and the pineapple for dessert. It is a small establishment, they had taken a lot of precautions from sanitiser at the door to having a spray on the tables. You will also have your temperature taken upon sitting down.
A few tables had screens in-between, although not all of them and I wish they had more. There was no mention of track and trace though, so maybe they did not need to enforce it on this occasion.
Overall, food was flavourful and the mango iced tea was on the smaller side, but refreshing during the recent heatwave. We'll be back soon, Shelina & Team!
J. C.
I love this restaurant, the food is wonderful, never had a bad meal. They don't have a alcoholic licence but we really like taking are own wine and the staff are really helpful with wine coolers and storing any other bottles. We've often seen Shelina(Masterchef winner) which is cool. The menu keeps changing so I always look forward to the next visit. Small restaurant so book for the weekend! I don't think they have a restroom with disabled access! Not far from the train station also near the Mayflower theatre and city museum and art gallery.
J. R.
The food here is my absolute favourite 😍
C. B.
Had an amazing first meal here last weekend with family - its a small restaurant so you have an allotted slot. It's a colourful place with a lively atmosphere. I had the prawn ginger and coriander fritters to start (galaks) which were the best prawn starters I've had! Chicken House Cari for main with Roti as an extra - the curry was amazing and the flavours were good especially with the green chutney, it was quite spicy so added this into the curry..roti was so soft and fresh! Dessert was to die for and I want to come back here especially for this - the yummy coco bun.. a brioche bun filled with coconut ice cream and covered in salted caramel sauce with pistachio. Best.dessert.ever. The BYO alcohol is a also a good idea but you need to pay corkage.
H. C.
Great casual spot to eat when in Southampton. Friendly staff, too. Food can be best described as Mauritian street food. Quality is OK but the selection is rather limited. Good for office dinners too. Book in advance.
H. W.
Amazing food, fantastic service from Stu
N. S.
This little place is a gem. The food is just perfect: samosas are perfectly fried and taste fresh, the "magic pot" has the freshest shrimps ever and the cari is a perfect balance of spices. Add to that a friendly service and you get a wonderful restaurant!
M. S.
Alway amazing food. The menu has so much variety you're always going to be able to get something different to try. Drinks are fantastic and the price is reasonable for the quality. Service tonight was great too! Definitely recommend
C. V.
Try mauritian food for the first time ! The taste has a strong similarity with our native style but different in it's own ways. The starters - prawn fritters were so yum. Would definitely visit again
C.
I was certainly impressed with the food. Having been to Mauritius 2 years earlier, I was craving some of the curries that we were served during our holiday. I can (hand on my heart) honestly say that Lakaz Maman do real authentic Mauritian food. The combination of perfectly season rice and tender chicken curry makes for a great meal. The portion is also just right: Neither too Big or too Small. Their freakshakes are also great . A little to the pricey side, but definitely worth a visit!
L. R.
Absolutely gorgeous food and very welcoming and friendly staff. We will definately be back in the future.
m. i.
Food is delicious....just a lovely taste in my mouth. Don't bring your drink as beer or wine, but try their drink, they really need to be tasted with the food.
On of the best place to have dinner in Southampton
J. L.
Excellent great food, great service.
Food tastes like Mauritian
Would love to go again but we live in Bham
A. A.
Lovely burst of Mauritian flavours in the middle of Southampton with traditional dishes, but could do with more balance in the saltiness of some of them, and with more variation than the tamarind-based sauce/flavour on others. The warm, casual feel to the restaurant makes it lovely overall though, with good service from the staff as well bith times that I was there.
R. S.
OMG! The food is phenomenal. I was introduced by a Mauritian friend. The flavours leave you wondering just how your palate can be so surprised. The staff were an absolute delight. Highly recommend a visit.
J. S.
Really enjoyed the lively atmosphere and the interesting food - it's great to find something a bit different from the typical italians. If you are looking for a place to have a relaxed evening, I would really recommend coming here. Book a few days in advance though as it can be very busy at weekends.
I'm not sure I would bother with the starters. Although tasty, they are less exciting than the rest of the menu and a bit expensive for what you receive, especially compared with the price of the mains.
They do not sell alcohol, however, you are welcome to bring your own but you will be charged corkage. Otherwise, there are mocktails and ice teas on offer along with the normal array of soft drinks.
J. L.
Had a lovely evening at Lakaz. The food was amazing and the service was quick and efficient. Would recommend.
D. P.
Great little place with very unusual and unique cuisine themed on Mauritian street food. You'll find things here that you won't get anywhere else in Southampton. Can be very busy so it is wise to book on a weekend. The food prices are very reasonable too, portions are sensible and there are some lovely 'home made' pickles and sauces.
Slight downside is that there have no alcohol license, instead serving non-alcoholic cocktails which are a little expensive and lacklustre and charge slightly eye-watering corkage.
T. S.
👏🏾 I’m obsessed with your food literally, I feel like it has taken me a long time to get authentic nice food that I can eat everyday... I’m going to be visiting on a constant basis. I went to Lakaz Maman and had brunch with friends, everyone was amazed with the rich flavours that the food had. We learnt that everything was freshly made from scratch .... The bill was served with mint sugar and pineapples, a sweet reminder for you to always find you way back to this safe haven... The best service I got from Sharon, Trust me when I say the best, after all I was a waiter at some point so ya!!!
C. D.
One of the best restaurant in town. They often brings new flavours on the menu. The staff is lovely, the menu is perfect. If you like spicy food, this is the place. Go for the chicken wings, definitely the bests in town
J. M.
Brilliant food, really flavourful and different to anything else I've had recently. Sharing starter especially good. Pretty cramped so not 5 stars. Bring your own drink, so makes it more affordable too.
C. H.
Amazing food, beautiful place and lovely staff. Definitely recommend the sweetcorn ribs ♥️
F. F.
Great Mauritian food, the seafood starters were amazing. The curries and rougaille were great. They were quite accommodating in doing a side papaya salad for us. Only complaint is the roti is a bit expensive compared to other menu items, might be better to offer roti or rice. I thoroughly recommend.
g. o.
Fabulous.
We had a selection bits and bobs and each was delicious. Well worth a visit.
M. W.
I've found my new favourite eatery. There is something magic going down in the kitchen here, I haven't eaten anything that worked so well together and made me as happy and satisfied as the food I've had from Lakaz Maman! What an asset to Southampton!
Vegan, dairy free, gluten free, vegetarian etc - all catered to! Perfect 🍍 book a space, this place is popular!
L. E.
Insane food, new favourite restaurant.
J. F.
Good good and quite connectable. A few changes since they opened have really improved the experience. Quite a small and cosy restaurant with most tables being not quite large enough is you go for sides with your good, which you may be tempted to do as the portion sizes are smaller than most places - but rather that add lots of sides, I recommend indulging in their starters and puddings. On the main course menu, the House Cari is highly recommended. It comes with rice and they suggest also having a roti. The bun is essentially Mauritian bunny chow and comes with a mixed leaf salad - you may want to add a side here. Service is very friendly and knowledgeable about the dishes.
C. A.
I really enjoyed the food. It's more like a street food concept, or that was the feeling I had. The rice and bun were a bit dry, which makes me give it a 4. Cari and cari bun (vegetarian) where nice. The banoffee pie was really also good.
I. M.
Enjoyed our dinner. New flavours & very tasty food. Friendly atmosphere. I would highly recommend this place.
P. B.
Food was better than expected. They serve no alcohol but amazing mocktails. You can bring your own vodka and turn them into cocktails for a small corkage fee.
R. G.
Delicious, healthy meals and really good mocktails. I will definitely be returning to try more of the menu. The staff were really friendly and the prices were reasonable.
E. B.
Fabulous, authentic Mauritian food! Lovely little street style resto reminiscent of typical Mauritian eateries. A hit and definitely somewhere to come to time and time again.
M. R.
Tasty food with a nice environment. Service was patient as we waited for more folks to arrive. They were kind to us, including my toddler. We ordered alooda as a drink, which is a perfumed vanilla coconut milk drink with basil seeds. It was delicious, but the straws were about 4" too short for the bottle.
My wife's magic bowl was hearty and delicious and totally unexpected in presentation. It was a nice surprise. My curry was good, but nothing special. The piment balls (described as fried chilli balls) didn't have any heat to them. I think mild should be in the descriptor. They reminded me of falafel. My rice was subtly seasoned and perfectly cooked. The sauces on the table were excellent, especially the lemon chilli chutney.
I'd definitely go back to try more of the menu.
M. P.
Food and service were good - would have liked larger portions though.
T. S.
Starters: Gateaux Piment (crunchy chilli balls), Lakaz Maman Chicken Wings (spicy chicken wingers served with chilli sauce) & Maman Sheila's samosas.
Mains: Island style roti wrap with Cari Chicken & Cari Lakaz Maman with Chicken plus roti bread
Drinks: 2 x diet cokes
Cost: £40
Starters: We ordered three starters between the two of us. There was an odd number of everything which was slightly annoying when sharing. The crunchy chilli balls were really nice! A really good balance of flavours. The chicken wings were really well cooked. The meat just fell off the bone, however I wouldn't describe them as 'spicy chicken wings' as the wings themselves didn't really have any coating but they were served with a chilli sauce. Also, slightly overpriced at £4.95 for 3. The samasos were also really nice and served with a pesto type sauce to dip into. Not sure what it was but it was tasty.
Mains: Mains were a little disappointing. The wrap itself was nice, but the chips were over salted for my taste. I'd rather salt them myself. The curry was described as 'average' by my husband but he was really disappointed by the roti bread as it was hard and felt slightly stale; maybe sat under a heat lamp too long? This might be how they're supposed to be served however we've never had roti's like that before.
Service: Slow. The finished plates sat on our table for quite a while before they were cleared. The waiter walked passed our table quite a few times but didn't clear them (we even stacked them for convenience). Other people that ordered later received their food before us. For 'street food' I expected it to be quicker than it was. Towards the end of the meal two girls came on shift and seemed really friendly, a bit late by this point.
I expected more from the visit. Lakaz Maman don't serve alcohol but you can take your own and pay £5 corkage. I'd be tempted to do that next time. It would be nice to sit with a few beers and a selection of the starters as nibbles.
A. B.
Nice enough restaurant, very small so make sure you book a table, especially on weekends. Nice food, although my wife wasn't keen on her wrap. No alcohol but you can take your own.
K. K.
Perfect place reminding me of home Mauritius 🇲🇺 Foods 👌🏾
E.
Brilliant food, great service, buzzing atmosphere. Really tasty, freshly cooked, imaginative dishes. Looking forward to our next visit
A. J.
This restaurant is really amazing, could be of the best in town !
Shelina who run this restaurant is MasterChef 2012, you can find her there supervising the cooking, welcoming customers and taking care of service 👍🏻
The meals, drinks and desserts are great, creative stuff that you wouldn't find somewhere else !
Liked
- K prawn& Mango island style roti wrap
- K prawn cari bun.
- Yummy coco Bun for dessert
- If you like ice teas, the Mango & lime is something you shouldn't miss !
I would really give 5 stars, the only drawback is the quantity, they really should rethink about the size of meals !
I like the food, but I also don't like to leave a restaurant and I'm not full 💔
⚠️ Its usually quite busy, so you better make a reservation before you come in. It's also a small restaurant and there is no place to wait !
Overall,
Will be my favorite place in town ♥️
D. B.
Delicious homemade food to satisty those tastebuds. Super service in a cosy atmoshere where the food takes centre stage . Great for vegetarians. In a world of processed micro heated food chains this is bliss. Great food at a sensible price...just go and enjoy .
M. S.
One of my favorite places to eat on earth. Period. Staff is lovely, food is magical, and it has that family-run down-to-earth coziness that you just cannot fake.
r.
First visited Lakaz Maman in 2018 and loved it. Sadly can't say that anymore. Still love the venue, décor and service and visit several times a year, but the tastiness of the food has sadly declined. Time to call in Chef Ramsay? No, surely Chef Shelina can sort this out, if not "Apell mama pou zett enn cou d'oeil l'or cé ki bann seff pé fer dan la kwizin!" Best wishes.....😁👍❤️🇲🇺
M. C.
Really enjoyed my meal. Great sticky rib starter, seafood magic bowl for main and a lovely sweet. Good service made it an enjoyable meal. Thank you!!
D. L.
Great food (Mauritian which seems to cater for everyone with some Indian, some Chinese and some more Carribean inspired dishes) . Good service. BYOB with a 10% discount on alcohol from the shop over the road. Not too pricey. Would recommend definitelynrecommend
R. L. H.
My partner is half Mauritian so we have spent time in Mauritius and eat Mauritian food at home regularly. The food here was top notch, extremely tasty and it was hard to choose what to have. Service was friendly and the staff efficient. The only drawback is that it is 4.5 hours from where I live so please open in Manchester!
R. D.
Great food, highly recommend
R. K.
Amazing food! Great original drinks, although no alcohol is served here you can bring your own. Very friendly staff.
I recommend the octopus curry.
M. M. S.
It is so rare to find a Mauritan restaurant, which is why I am so glad I happened upon it! They play Sega music inside and the spices remind you of the taste of Mauritius. There weren't any gateu peimas which was a disappointment, but the food they do offer is tasty. I would definitely recommend!!!
S.
The food was very nice and the service was good. I did feel it was a bit expensive for what we had. Don't get me wrong, it was nice. But didn't knock my socks off. The children were made very welcome which was nice.
N. O.
Fun. Not authentic mauritian recipes but enjoyable anyway. Love that they're committed to not using single plastic straws. Small but friendly space. Attentive staff and some dishes are good.
J. S.
Great wings, nice chicken, dont confuse the red snapper with anything you've tried in the Caribbean, more like cod from the Thames. Joke aside dishes were good had high hopes for the red snapper just not up to any standard id had before
S. E.
The food was absolutely fantastic!!! Everything we hoped for and more. Loved the atmosphere and decor of the restaurant and the staff were lovely. Looking forward to going again.
S. F.
Pleasant surroundings food good served quickly.
I had an octopus curi which was very tasty but surprised the roti was not included considering the curi was just under 12 pounds.
C. B.
Great service even when the restaurant was full. Excellent choice with unique tastes. Streetfood presented with panache. Great tasting soft drink mixes. Loved it.
C. L.
Amazing Mauritian food with a twist. Real authentic flavours and what made our visit extra special was that Shelina was there. So warm and friendly, really felt like I was in Mauritius.
R. T.
Creole cuisine and casual, colourful vibe. Dishes are fairly original but slightly undersized. A little bit cramped, make sure you ask for a roomy table when booking
e.
Vegans well catered for. Delicious food and great vibes. Will be back.
R. H. (.
Fun food, bright, colourful decor. Make a meal of appetizers and you'll be glad you did.
J. T.
Really tasty Mauritian creole Caribbean food. Setup by a Master Chef winner, the food is very good, authentic flavours. Plenty of vegan choices as well.
S. R.
A gorgeous restaurant with friendly staff and delicious light flavourful food. Had to stay for all three courses. Worth it! Great value for money.
S. K.
One of the most amazing meals I've had - jackfruit burger and dirty fries! Excellent service as well 😊
W. D.
I'm in love. Each bite gave me new flavours and textures. Portion sizes were ideal. The staff were lovely. Definitely returning!
E. M.
Excellent food, lovely staff, we had three courses and were done within an hour. 10/10 would recommend - we'll definitely be back!
S. M.
Lovely venue , polite staff and fantastic food. Will definitely be coming back !

Lovely little place with a good range of food. No alcohol but reasonable corkage charges and a lovely selection of non alcoholic drinks. Delicious desserts too.
N. U.
Very good interesting food and great atmosphere, will come again :)
V. S.
exceptionally tasty food. Healthy and wholesome too. no ingredient in any dish is overpowering but you will taste it all. Perfectly blended. Pure mastery of cooking.
D. N.
Been here a lot and love it, but have just discovered the Tropical Chicken Burger too 😍 One of the nicest things I’ve ever eaten, sensational. Make sure you eat it with your hands too
C. R.
Stunning food from a Masterchef winner! It makes a change from Southampton's many chain restaurants. The staff give great recommendations if you're spoilt for choice.
A. K.
The most delicious curry and octopus I have ever eaten. Lovely fast service and will definitely return. Yum!
J. T.
Had a yummy vegan butterbean House Curi, my wife enjoyed the Red snapper Curi. Nice fresh look to the restaurant and friendly staff. I'll definitely drop by again
R.
I Love Master Chef and was looking forward to going to Lakaz Maman to taste the food of a Masterchef Champion. I was not disappointed, the food is superb and very reasonably priced. I would recommend this restaurant whole heartedly.
S. J.
Great buzz about the place, the food always good.
K.
The food here was just divine. I had the magic bowl and it was cooked perfectly. It left my mouth watering and wanting more. Perfect!
I. R.
Absolutely fantastic food and very accommodating for a last minute booking! Lovely service and could not have been more helpful. Thank you once again.
A. C.
Excellent place. Love it, added a bit of spice to the dishes and wow!
One of the best restaurants in Southampton.
A. J.
Wonderful food, curry portion could perhaps have been a tad more generous but gloriously rich and tasty. Loses one star for serving my drink in a jam jar
J. G.
Amazing restaurant with a really great vibe. Food was fantastic and service very friendly. It's a busy restaurant and for good reason. Highly recommend
M. A.
Shelina and the team provide incredible food at great prices. If you didn't know we have a MasterChef winner from Southampton, you do now.
A. K.
Lovely food at a great price, lots of choice especially for gluten free and vegan, would definitely go back and highly recommend!

Superb, simple but stunning flavours

Delicious lamb ribs, worth returning for. Friendly and cheerful staff. Cozy seating. Noise levels low enough to have a conversation with your friends.
R. W.
Great little independent street food restaurant, great food, friendly service. No liquor license but you can bring your own wine, £5 per bottle corkage 🥂
L. J.
Had one of my best meals in my whole life! The main course and dessert are absolutely delicious! Keep up the good work!
A. R.
Lots of fresh yet bold flavours. Loved the octopus, extremely tender. Definately recommend. Different and surprisingly good.
C. C.
Lovely food, everytime superb quality. Friendly staff, a bit small but you can also use deliveroo and have it at home.
S. Z.
Delicious quality food. Beautiful mixture of spices, and I love how the resturant's atmosphere is very personal and authentic!
A. M.
Incredible. The most delicious food I have eaten in a very long time. Delicious, interesting and just wow.
S. G.
Brilliant as usual food is always wonderful - so nice to go somewhere individual and not part of a massive chain.
G. B.
Brilliant restaurant, more than reasonable price but more importantly wonderful food. I don't know a single person who doesn't go back again and again
S. r.
Lovely food and staff !

Love the Mauritian cuisine. Delicious and very tasty. Great portion. Will definitely visit again
L. T.
A true discovery for me as never had Mauritian good before and I must say I love the fusion of flavours, half way between Africa, Europe and Asia. Recommended.
S. U.

This place is a must-visit! The vegetarian/vegan burger is just incredible. Everything on the menu is fab actually!

Lovely food! We ate the lot. Go if you haven't already
F. A.
One of the best food places I have ever been to. Busy and small though so book in advance.
S. S.
Very different style of food but none the less if you like spicy foods with allot of flavours this is your place, not normally what I would choose but regardless of that i enjoyed it allot
A. R.
Delicious food that’s just that bit different from anything I have had before. 2nd visit and enjoyed every bite once again.
