Lovely meal with friends. We’ve been to Max’s many times over the last few years and it’s always our go-to choice when we want a nice meal. Unfortunately this time the steak, ordered rare, was over cooked but this was rectified very quickly and the second one was perfect (unfortunately I didn’t get a picture of that one). Nice choices of wine. This place isn’t huge so make sure you book! Gluten free options are clearly marked on the menu.

So we decided to come here to have a nice meal celebrating our 5th wedding anniversary and it did not disappoint!! Max and i fel bad he younger waitor were amazing, atentive, polite and friendly and welcoming. The restaurant is small but not crowded its got a romantic feel to it. The food ive got a soft spot for Italian food but his oh my was on another level. Seriously hats off to chef, you have definitely got repeat customers!! 5⭐ all day thank for a lovely night

We ate lunch today at Max's Brasserie... atmosphere is lovely, staff are wonderful and friendly. Excellent service, restaurant is clean and all food well presented. We had a small issue with one of our dishes, the waiter couldn't have been more helpful.... we have eaten here many times and always find it to be superb.

All in all a slightly disappointing experience? One of our waiters seemed to want be anywhere other than there. Sprinkled Parmesan whilst leaning over peoples food and dropping it in our drinks as he did. The food was… okay? But for £19 I would expect something more robust when it came to the chicken Alfredo type dish. The Arancini was amazing though 10/10. There was a loud thumping noise like the people upstairs were playing the drums or something which wasn’t very conducive to a conversation and staff were having visible frustrations with each other which wasn’t great to whiteness. Not terrible but slightly expensive and not up-to expectations which was a shame. Look

Fantastic evening spent here last night with my daughters. Superb food and hospitality. Felt lovely and welcoming and Max's is a very professionally run restaurant. Had a few glasses of grappa with Max at the end of the evening, we will be back soon for the Wine Tasting evening, can't wait.

Had a really amazing dinner here with my friend. We each had three courses. I had fried mozarella, vegetarian gnocchi and ice cream. My friend had garlic bread, ravioli and tiramisu. We both thought the food was amazing and great value at £20 for three courses. The service was really amazing - the waiter was friendly and attentive despite having a massive group to serve. Will definitely come back and recommend it to other people.

Visited with my wife and parents. The food was divine with exceptional service. I currently have a bad back and they couldn't do more to be accommodating to make me comfortable. Even helped me pit my coat on. Would gladly visit again.

We decided to come here for our belated 3 month anniversary dinner and I have not been to a restraunt that's been so welcoming in years. The moment we arrived, we were made to feel welcome. We had a really friendly team serving us and they made the whole experience so superb. The food was excellent, my salmon pasta was beautiful and my girlfriend's lobster was to die for. We were both so happy with our meals and dessert. Couple bottles of the house white helped the meal go down and it was just the most amazing evening. I couldn't recommend the place more if I was paid to, a real hidden gem in Southampton and we will be returning in the near future

Pre booked a Wednesday lunch for me, my girlfriend, mum and Nan who is in a wheelchair, so we sat outside. Our starters: mushrooms, scallops, octopus, calamari all fresh and tasty. I had informed Max that we wanted lobster for mains. We had half a lobster each, loads of claw meat and lobster tail, and spaghetti which was delicious. For desert it was tiramisu and coffee along with cheese board. A couple of bottles of sparkling water, a recommended bottle of rose from Max, and some spirits and mixers. Total cost about £180, (£45 per head) for a relaxing 2.5 hour eatathon, which I felt was reasonable for the quality of food we enjoyed. Highly recommend visiting this exceptional restaurant, as Genaro is a great chef and the team are fantastic.

First visit, for a family birthday celebration dinner. Tempted by excellent Internet reviews it was great to find the reality matched the high expectations. Friendly and efficient service and really high quality food. I would recommend choosing from the Specials Board: we enjoyed superb fillet steak, mussels and salmon/scallop risotto. In comparison the tapas selection was nothing to rave about, but won't stop us going back to Max's for our next celebration dinner. Thank you Max!

Family run restaurant with a passion for the finest and freshest food, cooked and served in the finest Italian style. We were welcomed as one of the family and served the most delicious food, so obviously prepared by chefs with a passion for their trade. Service is casual and intimate. For whatever reason my last review didn't post so I'll do it again after yet another successful visit to Max's. It is a great place to each with good honest food and a very welcoming atmosphere. It is a very relaxed place who welcome our children every time and will work hard to ensure you get what you like. My children can be a little fussy at times and they explain the things they like to the staff and they cook something up bespoke if you want them to - Camembert is a favourite!. Max and his wife are great hosts and this feels like a little slice of Sicily mixed with the rest of Europe to give you a wonderful experience. I like the fact it isn't too contemporary and cold as too many places have that decor and it is getting a bit boring. It is small, well run, food tastes good and they can't do enough for you. We have been back time and time again and it is always buzzing in there. We hosted my mother's 50th on a day when they weren't open - they opened for us - yet again going above and beyond.

What a find. The owner Max is an absolutely fabulous gentleman and the staff worked their socks off all night looking after customers. The menu was delicious - enough options to cater to all tastes yet not too much to affect quality. Our starters were delightful - my partner had scallops and I had the Arancini balls - latter can be bit heavy but these were light and oh so tasty. Our mains - we both opted for the monkfish in a creamy chilli sauce with asparagus and potatoes - a beautiful looking dish and again taste matched appearance. Loved the ambience and the Pinot Bianco was a real find. Thankyou Max and team - we will return

My daughter and I stumbled across Max's Brasserie when trying to find a restaurant close to St Mary's Stadium (we went to see Robbie Williams). Max is full of energy and is extremely helpful and made us feel so welcome. His wife is lovely and very welcoming too. The food was out of this world and I toyed between having the roast turbot or fillet steak. I had the steak with peppercorn sauce and it was the best steak ever! It totally melted in the mouth and the flavour of the whole dish was fantastic! Max does not scrimp on the quality of ingredients and has the most tastiest olive oil and balsamic which I have ever had outside Italy. I commented to him about this and he said he has it sent over from Italy. These two products are nothing like you buy here in England and the depth of flavour of the 10 year old balsamic is outstanding. We found the whole experience at Max's so amazing and we just loved the whole ambience of the restaurant. Max is very passionate about what he does and that comes across very clearly. We are not local to Southampton but I will make sure I go back for the roast turbot and more of his great cocktails soon! Do not hesitate to try this lovely restaurant if you want to taste a bit of the true Italy. It doesn't offer the bog standard carbonara, lasagna or Pizza but there are risottos, pasta, seafood, steak, veal dishes to choose from as well as Tapas. Even if you fancied a dish off menu Max would happily rustle up something for you. Thank you Max and Yanna for the wonderful meal and drinks. I feel we walked in as strangers and left as friends xx

I guess you have eaten at places like this quite often. The food is OK, you would struggle to complain, but at heart it is very average. They have a high rating in Southampton, which is a concern if true. The prices are £5 per item too high, for the food and the wine. The bill is therefore £20 to £30 more than you would want to pay for the quality. It is not somewhere I will be going back to, but it isn't terrible.
