Why would anyone give more then 3 starts to this place? Don't get me wrong, there is technically nothing wrong with the place but it's just OK... Location? Really bad on the first floor. Decoration? Early 80's and hasn't changed since.. View? You will love it if you keep your eyes closed... 😂 Food is fine, nothing special really, we were a group of 6 and everything was pretty average in taste and presentation. It was pasta with seafood, some pork and some starters. Service? Was fine, we got served the wrong wine twice, and the bottle came open, which is never a good sign... We were seated by the toilets when we had asked when we did the reservation for a table by the windows, and despite repeatedly asking to move, we were there all the time... I don't know, maybe I was expecting something better but I left really disappointed and didn't really enjoy the meal, which wasn't cheap at all...

Overlooking Southampton Water towards Western, this first floor restaurant is a good place to eat, drink and look across the water with passing shipping. The food is good with no complaints. Plentiful seating in and, an outside terrace also. Staff are friendly and attentive.

I was staying nearby at Hythe Marina and decided to give this place another try after visiting quite a few years ago and remembering a fairly average experience. The decor was still exactly the same however I much preferred this experience and was glad that I decided to try it again. We were very fortunate to be seated by the window providing a fabulous view across Southampton water which was great to see the shipping activities Cruises, Ferries, Cargo Ships etc. The Fish Pie I had tasted fantastic and was nicely presented. The dessert (chocolate brownie) was also brilliant in flavour. Service was very professional and friendly and overall it had a nice atmosphere for a Friday evening. It is located on the second floor and can be missed if you don’t know what you are looking for and despite the slightly dated decor, the views, food and service is still worth a visit!

We have been here quite a bit over the last couple of years. Staff are always helpful and friendly. Food has always been excellent - I wouldn't call it "haute-cuisine" but better than traditional "pub food". The "specials" are always worth looking at. The view across Southampton Water makes this a "special" venue. Highly Recommended.

The food was good. Although I thought a little pricey for venue. We parked below at Waitrose as told we had 2 hours free parking there. I had to move car as we were there longer! We sat outside but were dismayed by dirty table. My daughter asked waiter to clean. He did but not well at all and missed where she was sitting!!! No serviettes brought with any course. We had to go inside and ask for pepper! Service was poor. Shame as food was good! Need to up customer service big time.

What a lovely Christmas dinner ! The gravy was especially delicious and it was one of the best Christmas meals I have had . The staff were so helpful and friendly and they were happy to adapt the menu for my problematic tooth , meaning I had trouble with anything crunchy !

Wow! What a great breakfast! Piping hot and every bit delicious. I got triple black pudding because my companions didn't want theirs. It was delicious! Great service from waitress and waiter doing their best to social distance. Will be coming back!

Went for dinner on a Saturday evening for my Mum’s birthday meal. The restaurant is very quaint and the view over the marina makes for a lovely backdrop. The food was absolutely delicious, cooked to perfection and fresh, local ingredients. We all had three courses with cocktails and wine which were also lovely! The service was fantastic too even when the restaurant became quite busy. We had a wonderful time and would highly recommend!

Popped in for a late lunch/ early dinner. The lunch menu is from 12 till 6 which is significantly cheaper to the dinner menu. Starters (pictures are whitebait and the muscles) were well presented. I had the duck pate which was very good. For main I had fish and chips which was tastey enough with a home made tartare sauce. The batter was a bit soggy but I like my batter crispy. The views are impressive and the binoculars are a nice touch. Decor very modern, warm and stylish. The stairway up to the restaurant does not reflect the rest of the restaurant. Service was very good.

We are new to the area but had heard good things about this restaurant from local forums. We had a table by the window.. was a lovely day and the views amazing. Staff were attentive, happy and helpful. Advice on portion size accurate. We had lunch with starters, a main and drinks. The lamb shoulder was very soft, the pork loin was tender, with fresh seasonal veg. Portion size ample for a normal sized appetite. The menu had a variety of options with one of us choosing a chiabatta sandwich rather than a full meal...again very tasty and a good amount of smoked salmon and crayfish along with a portion of chips.. All in all a lovely lunch and a venue i would visit again and take friends and family to

It’s a very welcoming and nice restaurant. Food is good and stuff always finds a way to seat us even if it’s packed and we didn’t have a reservation.

Food is average and service was friendly but below par. Prices are slightly high when taking in to account the service received. Update: there are deals on cocktails. But the cocktails are hour and miss depending on who is making them. My mojito had 1 mint leaf in it (and used as decoration); no muddling, plus put in a warm glass! Examples: - after seeing us and giving us a menu, the next time we spoke to someone was 10-15 minutes later when we asked about drinks - why not straight away? - at that time we were worried about not seeing the wait again, so we asked to order our food. We were never told about the specials, which we found were available by overhearing another table - cheese plate is awesome but remove the salad! - I wanted a whisky with my cheese course, but the drinks menu is included in the food menu and despite it being larger than an elephant, it only had a wine list written in it. There was no mention of any of their other drinks and they rely on you walking to the bar to see what they have as the wait staff do not know what drinks they have.

We spent a couple of nights in Portsmouth and when we saw this restaurant and its reviews we had to travel to Hythe. I had the fish pie which was bloody lovely and possibly one of the best fish pies I've ever had. The vegetables that were served with it were cooked lovely, not like some of these places who serve crunchy carrots. My boyfriend had the surf and turf and the steak was cooked perfectly. The king prawns were so fresh and juicy and the Stilton sauce he said was beautiful (coming from someone who doesn't like blue cheese). They have a great selection of wines as well. We didn't go for starters as we knew we wanted a pudding and they didn't disappoint! I went for the chefs special of sticky toffee pudding with a hot toffee sauce and vanilla ice cream. The portion size was incredible, a right slab of pud and it was really tasty. My boyfriend had a creme brulee (one of the reasons we came!) And he said it was one of the nicest puddings he has ever had. We would definitely visit again if we are ever in the south. We must also add that the staff are lovely, covid measures taken and the prices are very reasonable.

Best breakfast and service! Honestly, when we were told that they had cleaned this restaurant up my partner had some reservations but we are SO happy we gave it a shot. The staff are unbelievable. So incredibly kind and polite, you genuinely feel like they want you to have a great experience. Although you might get the odd smoker, the patio is my favorite spot. Great views! The most important bit, for the price you pay the breakfast is astounding. Absolutely delicious and with a hot drink included you cannot go wrong. Highly recommend, will be back soon. Get a window table for wide views across Southampton Water and of Hythe Pier Good of it's type: nothing very exciting or stand out, but maybe that's a plus rather than a minus. It's probably good place to take a drink or two and watch the shipping, but C19 has put a bit of a damper on that sort of socializing

Staff, service, atmosphere and scenery great. Food very average. For starter I had the salt and pepper squid which was cooked really well and a good portion however a little on the tasteless side. My other half had the pâté, again good portion however pâté was average and just taste like a cheap shop bought pack, butter came in a little sachet the best thing on the plate was the pickled red onion. Then it came to main, we both had the surf and turf, I was a little surprised to see rump as the meat option for this but then again you can get good rumps especially if dry aged so went ahead. Once served a good portion again, prawns were nice, onion rings were good, steak was cooked really well - medium rare as asked for, however the rump its self was a cheap rump and fatty which of course let the meal down as that is primarily what you are paying for. I can't remember exactly how much it was now just over £20 I believe, so not badly priced but still expect a little better meat wise for that. Lastly and unfortunately the worse part was the cheeseboard, I was looking forward to the award winning Cheeses they have at their disposal with Isle of Wight across the water and some of the locally made cheeses. Unfortunately I was presented with what I am sure they must have just bought from tesco was a really cheap slab of brie, cheddar and Stilton so as you can imagine was very dissapointed. Maybe I set my expectations slightly to high as i was told this was the best restuarant in Hythe and only heard good things. However even after my moans, I still had a nice evening there, the staff were brilliant and attentive can't beat the views of course, I probably will go back as there are very limited choices in Hythe but would lower my expectations.

I had my first ever meal here yesterday and I'm shocked that I haven't come sooner. The food was incredible. I opted for the fish pie which was outstanding and full of flavour. Other members of our party thoroughly enjoyed their meals too. Even my 2 year old son ate most of his food which is very unusual. I was overjoyed to see my favourite dessert Creme Brulee on the menu which also didn't disappoint. The waiting staff were all very friendly and welcoming and the restaurant is surrounded by lovely views. All in all I'd recommend this place to everyone as it is versatile enough that you can come as a couple, with family or in a group of friends.

My first visit today and what a wonderful lunch! They did dairy and gluten free for me and made it feel like it was no bother at all. The food was all fresh and cooked to perfection. When we said we liked to taste it but not to strong he suggested we had the modified medium one & if it chili wasn't strong enough he could arrange more to be added. Couldn't have done more for us & for us the medium strength chili was perfect. Great view of Southampton water & passing ships on a beautiful blue sky, sunny day.

Had a lovely meal here. The staff were great, attentive but not intrusive. The food was lovely. The bar area seemed popular, but not loud or rowdy, nor was it too close to the restaurant area. I would recommend this restaurant.

First time eating out since March, and have to say it didn't inspire me with confidence. We arrived and apart from yellow tape all up the stairs there was no signage saying whether facemasks were required or not, or where you were supposed to wait for your table. As it happens it seemed our table had been given to another party, so had to wait at the bar(where you are not supposed to be) until they sorted one out. We watched the waiter clean the top of the table, but did nothing with cleaning the chairs.... I presumed basic covid hygiene was to wipe down the chairs aswell. When we got our drinks they were carried by hand, no tray, and held right at the top near the rim, so total cross contamination. Customers were freely walking about non masked and not 1m apart or even half. Given all that the food I had was extremely nice, but I wont be in a rush to go back.

Our waitress really didn't care. She spilt my Dad's drink as she put it on the table and didn't acknowledge it. My dad used his serviette to clean the spillage. When the meal arrived, he asked for another serviette. She brought another one and slapped it on the table out of his reach. She never used any manners and seemed quite out of tune with the customer. Otherwise the food was very good and the restaurant was full.

Fresh looking good tasty and enjoyable. I had their crab linguine with chilli which was clean an tasty. Very busy need to book your table friendly service too.

Love coming here. Great views added with fantastic breakfast or lunch and delecious evening meals. It can get busy at times; often loud with the pub drinking side but that's mainly 'peak pub hours' and doesn't normally interfere with the dinners. The view - absolutely brilliant especially if your a ship or boat watcher! Book table early. Downside to here .... its upstairs with no lift or disabled facilities. Shame really; but hey.
