J.They do a gluten free menu! We are so happy about this and our coeliac son happily had fish and chips without any ill effect. All chips are cooked in a gluten free fryer and there is a gluten free menu for other items too. Well done St James Fish Bar! We’ll definitely be back!

Also great value for money. No other fish and chips place in Soton even comes close. We've found a new favourite takeaway.

Clean, masks worn, fresh fish and chips, they give you large portions and chips lovely and yellow not oily or black bits. Highly recommend, will definitely go back 🙂

A. N.Went there about 2 weeks ago, last time it was under the previous owner and really liked the service and food. New owners are very friendly, plus give an excellent service. Also the food was also as good as last time. The chips were as good and the fish was also good. Batter was crunchy not soggy and the fish not wet or too dry.
I can understand the revamp, however it seams to have lost a little of its charm, unfortunately it looks the same as any fast food place, a bit clinical. Will definitely use it again, as the food was good.

T. h.I have to say this is a very good fish and chips shop, my family went there because everywhere else was shut due to coronavirus but we go there every time we want fish and chips now, it has amazing portion sizes and very friendly staff who are always nice to customers, the food is also amazing.
B. S.This is my local fish and chip shop and I've been coming here for years, and I would always tell people it was the best chippy in town. Since the refurbishment and new ownership I hoped they would live up to their previous quality and they have, and more. The fish is even better, the chips are just as generous, the menu is larger, and the service is quicker. There is no reason to go to another fish and chip shop. This is the best in Southampton.
D. F.WOW....... best chippy since I was a kid growing up in the 80s. Massive portion, fresh chips and the pea fritter was outstanding! Popped in here due to the reviews and really impressed! Found my new fav chippy!! The staff are full of smiles and happy too which makes a change. Excellent!!

Small portion of chips, small cod, one fish cake and pea fritter would seem of a reasonable amount, but when it all fits on one plate and cost £8.20 really shocked as was my go to chippy in the past me. It still tastes good but in term of value for money.. You will better off going to alternative options

T. L. 8.Came here for lunch today (27-5-2020) was welcomed by the young guy behind the counter. Food was served quickly, was very hot & food tasted great. Would definitely recommend to others if passing by etc... It would be helpful If they had menu flyers on the counter to take away to look at prices etc 👍🏻
